As the sequel to my second favorite game of all time, I had high expectations. This game lived up to all of them. All the issues I had with Breath of the Wild have been fixed, and once recency bias has settled down this still may be my new favorite game of all time. This game is an absolute masterpiece.

You better get used to the idea that u'll be hearing a lot about this game in the next years, and that a lot of games will take it as inspiration for themselves. Good luck with that, mates.

Now, talking about the game, it’s not perfect in a technical way. It suffers from ocasional framedrops, and thats the most negative thing I can say about it so far. Having spent around 30 hours on it, and being one of those that was skeptical since the first teaser because of how similar to it’s predecesor looked like, I can now assure you that this is something on a completely new level. Not only it doesn’t just “reuse” maps or assets; it expands the world in every direction, makes it a lot (and when I say a lot I mean A LOT) richer in details and things to do and discover, and it’s absurdly refined for the console it’s been (sadly) created for. When this game receive (and I’m completely sure it will in mere weeks), some patches to stabilize its performance even more, we will finally have a truly gem of a game in every aspect. Cheers to the players!

What if you make one of the best games of the last 10 years better? I honestly couldn't imagine that breath of the wild could be better.

At first I was kinda disappointed that some things felt the same. But why fix something that isn't broken? Being able to discover Hyrule one more time with even more tools was something I don't know I needed. The addition of other two whole map layers

Being able to discover Hyrule one more time with even more tools was something I don't know I needed. The addition of other two whole map layers in the Sky and the abyss (dark souls reference) was just pure fun.

The new mechanics allow some incredible puzzle solving and the combat just is pure gold, the addition of the fuse mechanic to create your own weapons mid combat was something just godly.

While exploring Hyrule, on my way to my quest objective, I spot something in the distance and decide to check it out. What I thought was something that may have had a few items to pick up, turned into a puzzle, that really makes you think outside of the box utilising all of Links new abilities, which, by the way, have expanded the tried and true mechanics of Breath of the Wild, and somehow manage to blow it out of the water. Solving this puzzle (in whichever way you see fit, there is rarely a single solution) led me to an entirely new area that, if I had continued on my merry way, I would have completely missed. Exploration in this game is obviously encouraged, and the freedom of choice you have to play through this game is what keeps pulling me back in.

When I'm not playing Tears of the Kingdom, I am trying to plan what contraptions I can construct to help me take down that bokoblin camp that has been giving me grief. I am currently sat at work writing this review, because I cannot stop thinking about getting my hands back on Tears of the Kingdom.

Great game. Fun to play. Anyone calling it $70 DLC doesn't know what they're talking about. I was expecting it to be more similar to Breath of the Wild, but it's so massively different as well as being slightly similar. If you're going to say this is DLC for reusing assets you can't also sit there and say Majora's Mask is the best Zelda because they reused ALL of the assets from Ocarina of Time

This latest installment in the iconic Legend of Zelda series has elevated the bar for what a perfect game should be. From its breathtaking visuals to its captivating gameplay mechanics, Tears of the Kingdom has solidified its place as an absolute masterpiece.

One of the most striking aspects of this game is its visual presentation. Every pixel of Tears of the Kingdom feels meticulously crafted, creating a stunning, living world that is a joy to explore. From lush forests to sprawling deserts, the environments are exquisitely detailed, each with its own distinct ambiance. The art direction is simply breathtaking, seamlessly blending the fantastical with a touch of realism. Every location tells a story, and every moment spent in this game is a visual treat.

Beyond its aesthetics, Tears of the Kingdom boasts a gameplay experience that is both familiar and innovative. The game strikes a perfect balance between challenging puzzles and thrilling combat, offering players a constant sense of discovery and accomplishment. The dungeons are cleverly designed, with intricate puzzles that require both wit and skill to solve. The combat system is fluid and responsive, providing a satisfying sense of power as you wield legendary weapons and face off against formidable foes.

However, what truly sets Tears of the Kingdom apart is its storytelling. The narrative unfolds in a way that is both epic and intimate, whisking players away on an emotional journey like no other. The characters are richly developed, each with their own motivations and arcs that intertwine with the main story. The writing is exceptional, with dialogue that is both poignant and humorous, making every interaction feel meaningful and engaging. From the first moment to the last, the story of Tears of the Kingdom grips players' hearts and doesn't let go.

Furthermore, the game's soundtrack is a masterpiece in itself. The music perfectly captures the essence of each moment, whether it's the haunting melodies of a desolate landscape or the triumphant orchestration during epic battles. The score not only enhances the atmosphere but also elicits a range of emotions, pulling players deeper into the game's world.

The attention to detail in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is commendable. From the tiniest environmental interactions to the subtle nods to the series' history, it is clear that every aspect of the game has been crafted with love and care. This level of dedication is what elevates it to perfection.

In conclusion, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a triumph of game design, storytelling, and artistry. It is a rare gem that captures the imagination and leaves a lasting impression. With its stunning visuals, immersive gameplay, and emotionally resonant narrative, this game transcends the medium and stands as a testament to the power of video games as an art form. Story: The story took a bit more a backseat then what I was hoping for, but the mystery of what’s happening was a great addition.

Mechanics: Ultra hand felt clunky at first, but after some getting used to its a lot of fun! Like Breath of the Wild there are plenty of ways to solve any given puzzle, if not more with the addition of ultra hand. The base mechanics are barely changed from breath of the wild, which is great because the physics engine was already amazing.

Overall: I couldn’t have expected anything more than what we were given! This was great sequel to an already great game.

This game is so freaking fun to play and it is an amazing sequel to breath of the wild. The verticality to the game is great having the sky islands, hyrule itself, and then the underground as well really added to the game as a whole instead of just keeping it to the sky islands and the same hyrule. Definitely get this game if your on the fence about it, dont listen to the review bombers.

The puzzles you can solve and the contraptions you can create with it are beyond fun, and while a few puzzles are admittedly tedious, the amount of other amazing puzzles overshadows the bad. The boss fights are a lot more fun and interesting, the combat is good and really satisfying, and even if you start playing and the whole game just doesn't feel right, like how I went into the game, just know that it gets way, way, WAY better, and you will NOT be disappointed. All you need is to see all the surprises the game holds. It is ABSOLUTELY worth 70 dollars and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Expand

This is why we playvideo games. Video games as a whole culminate in this. A pure fantasy of wonder and excitement that makes total use of your smarts and imagination. Zelda games set the standard of quality for the entire industry, and this one seems years ahead lf it's time. I hope this game makes you [reading this] as happy as it has made me. The same problems that BOTW had, exist in this game: poor voice acting, very little story to drive you, side quests of older zelda games have largely been abandoned in favour of korok seed mini games and a hundred different temples scattered all over the map.

I think if they could have just taken the size of the BOTW map, but made the population of NPCs as intricately connected and as interactive as Majora's Mask with similar improvements to the story, this would have been a slam-dunk 11 out of 10 "Nintendo sets the standard again," kind of game. Instead they opted to dive harder into the open-world aspects, taking cues from minecraft of whatever. Which isn't all bad. I have definitely gotten lost for several hours just exploring and inventing things and I can see myself getting hundreds, if not thousands of hours of game time with this game.

But when I think Zelda, I think of a bustling castle with people living their lives, with hundreds of side-quests available to really become the hero the people. Instead this game is more about solitary exploration with some big bad bosses lurking around should you choose to encounter them. Good game, great even, but I think my expectations for the Zelda franchise are a little different than what we got with BOTW and TOTK.

If you would rate BOTW a 10, then I'm sure you'll thoroughly enjoy TOTK. For me BOTW was more like an 8 or a 9, and I'm probably less critical of it because it was a fresh new take on the franchise at the time. But with TOTK it does feel very much like more of the same, and I was hoping we'd get some strong improvements to the story and things that were otherwise weak in BOTW. We did not. The additions are fun and strongly support the open world aspects of the game, allowing you to be creative and just kinda muck around in the game doing a lot of nothing for hundreds of hours... but because inventions in this game also lack permanence it can feel kinda hollow when you spend hours trying to design a hovercraft, only for it to despawn between save states.

I can understand why some people aren't as happy with this game as with others in the franchise or in comparison to what others may have expected out of TotK.

However, for me, this is more than what I ever expected. I am so pleased with it and the design, and I don't care that it's the exact same world as BotW. Personally, that's why I like it so much. It's familiar but also not at the same time. I find the story to be intriguing and is helping connect other lore from other games in the franchise as well. I like the aspect of having to overcome a major setback after having set Hyrule on a course of recovery, as it mirrors what actually can happen in real life (obviously i don't mean the whole magical beasts and things of that nature being in real life...)

Don't get me wrong here though. There are things that I don't like (still can't pet the dog! :(....) but again, it's so minuscule in comparison to the size and depth of the game overall.

The visuals of the game are stunning and some of the changes are so enjoyable to me (ex: some of the ways you get korok seeds adds a further level of interaction with the koroks that is absolutely adorable.) And i genuinely don't care what others say in regards to the dialogues and voice-acting. Matthew Mercer as Ganondorf could not be anymore perfect and while I'm only done the first major plot point regarding the different races and groups of people, I can already tell how pleased I am with the new characters and how we are involved with them.

And Tulin is a precious muffin who I will die on every hill for.

I could go on and on about this game from a psych level as well but this isn't the space for an essay or dissertation so I'll leave it at this. The game is amazing and by no means is it perfect but I honestly don't know that a perfect game does or will ever exist. And that's why I love it so much.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
