    Amazing game, does not deserve some of the hate it gets.

    Pros: Great story, dungeons?, abilities are great and huge upgrades from before despite what some people say. And the world has expanded, more than 2 fold. Huge win for Nintendo.

The best game of the year, don't pay attention to those negative reviews, they are all bitter people who don't know what this game really is, everything changed compared to Breath of the wild, maybe the map is the same but it's so changed that It doesn't feel the same, the abilities are very entertaining to use, I miss the ones from BOTW but honestly these are perfect to cool off a bit, their graphics, even though they are exactly the same, do not cease to amaze how good they look on a nintendo switch, the style artistic of the game is artwork. On top of that the game adds 2 totally new areas on the map, the sky and the underground, the sky are very separate islands full of shrines, puzzles and many more things, and the underground is a hyrule map full of new things and things that You will never expect, the work that Nintendo did to make it so different from Breath Of the Wild is incredible, it has its 10/10 well deserved! highly recommended!!… Expand

    An absolutely amazing game in nearly any given matter. To those claiming that it is a BOTW 1.5: That‘s utter nonsense. Yeah, it‘s Hyrule as a „land“ but there the similarities end. The land is completely different, there‘s a new world up there and a new world down below. What are you all talking about? 12-year-olds hating because they can‘t have fun anymore…nothing more.

    This game takes what was great about BOTW and expands on it exponentially. TOTK also takes what wasn't so great about BOTW and improves it. This game is amazing and anyone that says otherwise is intentionally review bombing.

    genuinely the best game i’ve ever played. never in a game have i been so indulged in the open world for hours on end without getting bored at all. there’s so much to do that it’s near impossible to focus on the main story since you’ll come across so many other things to do

    This is now the highest rated video game of all time on OpenCritic. And there's a reason for that- it's a masterpiece. The sky islands and caves with a remixed Hyrule, with new abilities that are a gamechanger, better dungeons and way more enemy variety... I think this is the most impressive game I've ever played.

    Can’t put the game down. I thought I would like it but it won’t be as good as Breath of the Wild but it ended up being better in some ways. Game of the year contender for sure.

    I'm sorry, but I believe I speak for A LOT of Zelda fans when I say that the classic formula worked for a reason. The sense of dungeon-crawling and using items to solve puzzles is just not present in BotW or TotK. Instead you're given all of your abilities at the start and you're handed a bunch of materials in a sandbox so that you can play Minecraft. To make matters worse, the sandboxesI'm sorry, but I believe I speak for A LOT of Zelda fans when I say that the classic formula worked for a reason. The sense of dungeon-crawling and using items to solve puzzles is just not present in BotW or TotK. Instead you're given all of your abilities at the start and you're handed a bunch of materials in a sandbox so that you can play Minecraft. To make matters worse, the sandboxes of BotW and TotK are VERY MUCH identical. So similar to the point that if you takes out the visuals and story of TotK then it would very much look like a DLC of BotW.

    Speaking of the story... it's awful. The base plot is repeated all over the place, the resolution looks like something that was written out of an anime fanfiction, and the voiced dialogue is so cringe that it makes me wish when the characters didn't speak in past titles. VERY frustrating when other Zelda games had much better lore.

    Sidequests and their rewards are either meh or pointless altogether. Shrines are even easier than they were in BotW. Combat is still trivial most of the time. Weapons and shields still break way too easily. Dungeons are all "look for four parts of the puzzle to fight the boss". Past abilities and even some past characters are inexplicably missing. These thing combined with many more all come together to make a huge mess of a game.

    If you're big into Minecraft or open-world sandbox games in general then you'll like the game well enough. Otherwise old-school Zelda fans (and even some fans of BotW) won't care for this game nearly as much. Bring back the old formula, Nintendo.    … Expand

    Oh boy, where do I begin?

    I've had this game pre-ordered since February, and I have to say I had never been so excited for a video game in my life. I can safely say that Tears of the Kingdom is living up to the hype. It takes everything that worked in Breath of the Wild and adds it to what could, perhaps, be considered a more traditional Zelda story and structure. Shrines are still    Oh boy, where do I begin?

    I've had this game pre-ordered since February, and I have to say I had never been so excited for a video game in my life. I can safely say that Tears of the Kingdom is living up to the hype. It takes everything that worked in Breath of the Wild and adds it to what could, perhaps, be considered a more traditional Zelda story and structure.

    Shrines are still here, which I love. In the last game, they were a great way to test your puzzle-solving abilities, as well as practice using the Sheikah Slate abilities you had in the previous game. That ethos is continued in Tears of the Kingdom, but the puzzles have had to be altered slightly to accommodate the new Zonai abilities we have due to Link's very snazzy right arm.

    I also love how you can basically build anything out of anything with Link's new Ultrahand ability. It allows for some really creative ways to solve puzzles in the world in general as well as shrines, and for you to get creative when trying to find your way around. Ultrahand definitely has to be my favourite ability, just for the sheer number of possibilities it unlocks.

    One final thing: the soundtrack in this game is incredible, as Breath of the Wild's was. It feels more dynamic than it's predecessor's, but it really works. Breath of the Wild took place in a post-apocalyptic Hyrule, while this same Hyrule has attempted to heal from the Calamity of the last game, and has been dealt a major blow. Certainly in the one major story quest I'm doing at the moment, the music seems more urgent, like there is an immediate threat to the world.

    All in all, I absolutely love this game, and I personally think it overshadows Breath of the Wild. In years to come, Tears of the Kingdom will be regarded as one of the best games of its era, and an indication that Nintendo fully knows what they're doing with the Zelda series now. Nintendo not only expanded upon the lore of the world but made it feel so different and alive that its exciting. The game feels fresh and new and caters to both old and new fans alike. The new mechanics are exciting and really open up on what you can do and how you traverse the world. I think the most surprising is the traversal between sky, to the land of Hyrule and even to the underground is seamless with no loading screens between. You can dive from the sky islands straight into a chasm leading to the underground without any issues. Its pretty impressive and it shows how much polish and thought the developers put into the game. They've redone the music and sound system, providing a better experience and adding awesome musical scores that really add to the experience. Overall, this is game of the the year material. I highly recommend everyone pick this up and play.… Expand

    Bigger map, good quality of life updates, cool lore, amazing boss fights, fun dungeons (the way to them make those dungeons HUGE). The sky exploration, the Depts (My favorite part), the new companion system. Everything its so cool. I'm in love with this game ♥

    Master Piece! Increíble lo que es capaz de hacer el talento creador en una consola considerada obsoleta, cómo cabe toda esa magia en míseros 16 GB, siendo que los titanes AAA hoy por hoy andan en la media de 50-100 GB. Y que decir del juego per sé, SUBLIME en su totalidad. NINTENDO, Namasté.

    Ce jeu est superbe. Un bel héritage et une suite digne de BOTW.
    Les mécaniques de jeu toujours inovantes.
    Le contenu et l'open world sont gargantuesque.
    Une bande son toujours aussi plaisante et tranquille.
    La switch delivre le maximum de ses entrailles ducoup les graphismes sont parfois un petit peu en retrait mais la direction artistique le fait vite oublier.

    1. Lets start from the graphics: they are really beautiful but they still have the classic look from botw (which i love by the way)
    2. The plot, is a Little differnent, because in botw you had to discovery everything by yourself, almost no guidance, but in TK you have more guidance. Here you have something more specific, like the battle on the desert. But I think thats nice, especially its only a Little bit more, and I remember when botw came out i was really confused and had problems. Here i have them too (wich is kinda awesome that you have to think by yourself).
    3. Gameplay is great, really. It has the classic mechanics from botw like dodging but also has new one like attaching things on Arrow. It has so many surprising things and when you buy the game and walk through it, you have the simple excitation like a kid if you bought botw.

The core gameplay and world/lore and battle mechanics is the same and is outstanding as always. Although the game literally looks “brighter” it’s got a brighter feel to it too that’s hard to put into words or actually convey. The dynamic environment is noticeable straight away and hasI can’t exactly pin point what it is that makes this more enjoyable than BOTW for me but it definitely is. Each location is filled with tons of new content. And the way you explore was changed greatly. New abilities give you so much freedom and diversity of exploration. Time-to-time gameplay is extremely fun and greatly improved from BoTW. Fuse ability brings combat to the next level, giving you complete freedom over your arsenal. The sheer amount of possibilities of weapons you can create is mind-blowing. Ultrahand ability is an extremely powerful tool when it comes to exploration and puzzle solving. Even Ascend, seemingly the most simple ability you have, is actually very useful and is used way more often than you can imagine. The only problem with this game is performance. This game is another reminder that the Switch is 6 years old. Even Nintendo themselves can't make games run flawlessly on their own console. If Breath of The Wild had rare FPS drops at specific places, like the Korok Forest, framerate drops in Tears of The Kingdom occur way more often and it's noticeable. Overall, this game is a great fun that will be relevant, referenced and looked up to over the years, just like BoTW was.… Expand

    I'd rather recommend a good Pokemon for the Switch such as Scarlet or Sword, or a good Kirby such as Forgotten Land.
    This game is worth a lot for $70

    I can't give an accurate review because iv'e only played about 5 hours. But from what i've played, it's glorious, and i'm not a zelda fan. I only got the game because of hype, but it's definitely worth it. First time reviewing on metacritic and i don't know if you can edit reviews, but once i beat zelda i will come back and update it. But the game is of too a very promising start.

    Buy this immediately this is a 10/10 without hesitation. If you want a game that has amazing graphics and terrible gameplay and story go play horizon forbidden west. The gameplay mechanics are on another level in this new zelda. Its a fun experience best game i have played since elden ring.

    Ayant lu les tests et vu le 96 metacritique, j'étais confiant que le coté 1.5 ne serait pas présent, je me disais qu'on allait passé 50% de notre temps dans des superbes et grandes iles célestes du niveau du prélude ou de grandes cités celestes comme Laputa des studio Ghibli par exemple, avec une verticalité complètement folle, des iles toujours plus hautes jusqu'à la stratosphère pourquoi pas.

    Je me disais que les souterrains seraient des gigantesques cités antiques avec un level design renversant

    Je pensais que le royaume d'Hyrule serait complètement transformé et "méconnaissable" des propres dires des journalistes ( Honnêtement à ce niveau c'est de la désinformation, c'est même plutôt grave je trouve )

    Les trailers laissaient entrevoir un scenario plus sombre et mature aussi avec des passages montrant des mécanismes dans les iles célestes qui semblaient modifier l'overworld ou du moins créer des énigmes environnementales gigantesques entre le ciel et la terre.
    Il y a de bonnes idées mais pas assez pour se démarquer de son ainé.

    et bah. Quelle déception..

    Reste un excellent gameplay systémique, oui mais cela ne suffit pas à renouveler le plaisir de la découverte de BOTW .

    Le parti pris de la suite directe était risqué mais sur le papier, il y avait quand même moyen de renouveler l'expérience en modifiant radicalement le royaume d'Hyrule et en travaillant la promesse des 3 strates verticales :cieux, terres transformées et souterrains.

    Sauf que l'exécution du concept relève d'un gigantesque jeu de la flemme, c'est osé quand même.

    Sans trop spoiler vous comprendrez que les iles sont plutôt anecdotiques. Un comble. Le plus gros point noir du jeu.
    Les souterrains sont pas très intéressants. Imaginez les souterrains d'Elden Ring mais vous enlevez tout le level design, toute l'architecture et le lore pour ne garder qu'une matrice vide de grotte dans le noir sur des kilomètres.
    Reste Les transformations du royaume d'Hyrule , bien sont trop minimes .
    Ce n'est pas une suite, c'est un copié collé, voilà le problème.

    Le scenario, je vais pas m'étendre mais BOTW avait le mérite d'être radicale dans son approche du scenario basique mais efficace et mis au service du gameplay et de la découverte.
    Totk est certainement trop enfantin contrairement à ce qui ressortait des trailers.

    Même GOD Ragnarök, que j'ai moyennement apprécié à cause du sentiment de déjà-vu, et bien là je le remettrai volontiers en perspective car la réutilisation/ transformation de l'univers du 1er opus est plus convaincante que dans Totk.

    Je n'ose même pas trop le comparer à Elden Ring, tant la différence de travail est flagrant.
    Je dirais juste que fromsoftware savent au moins " recycler" intelligemment des éléments de gameplay d'un titre à l'autre tout en proposant à chaque fois des expérience complètement renouvelées et singulières.

    Pour conclure, en effet TOTK demeure un bon jeu " grâce" à la reprise bien trop important d'éléments de son grand frère mais bien trop recyclé, avec un sentiment de déjà-vu difficile à digérer. Si vous n'avez pas fait BOTW, il devient de facto un chef-d'oeuvre puisque améliore le gameplay de ce dernier.
    Je lui donne une relative bonne note toutefois car ce n'est pas intrinsèquement mauvais, loin de là par rapport aux jeux du genre mais il demeure plutôt fainéant et manque d'ambition.    … Expand

    Nice and wonderful game.... I lived and I live a great experience... a more advanced systemic gameplay than BOTW... that I haven't replayed for 5-6 years with my 300 hrs.. that I'm going to exceed with this one ❤️ ‍

    Almost decent game, but a very bad and disastrous Zelda (and I'm going to judge it under that criteria), from the Zelda saga it only has the characters and some melodies. It's the same game as botw but with new tricks that further distance the game from the essence of the saga.

    It's refreshing for a game not to hold your hand constantly, but I don't think the game should be $70 and there are performance issues. The gameplay is addicting thought IMO and using a game voucher makes it $50 for 2 games. I'd give it an 8.5, but i think rounding up to a 9 is alright.

    Traversal: Everyone has their own interesting, engaging, and fun way to move through the world, everyone has their own game walkthrough.

    Engagement: Nintendo created a rewarding purpose that grounds me in the world.

I own all the consoles and a pc… this game absolutely demolishes expectations and other game companies should follow suit. Games like this deserve to be heralded and placed on a pedestal.     Great sequel that improves on pretty much every aspect compared to its predecessor but is held down by the switch's outdated hardware. No game of this scale has ever handled player freedom better, you're pretty much never forced to things in one certain way. Fans of Ocarina of Time style Zeldas might feel bummed out that it doubles down BOTW's design philosophy though.

    The new mechanics are realy fun to mess around with. The game makes you feel good about yourself whenever you solve the puzzles, which are designed very well. Totk had a lot to live up to after the succes of Botw, but i feel like it surpassed its predecessor by a lot.

    This game absolutely blows anything else out there out of the water! I'm a huge Zelda collector and the graphics, story line and game play are just stunning! It was worth the 6 year wait!!!!!

    It improved on everything that made Breath Of The Wild perfect. If you have doubts about it being a BOTW DLC, Then fear not. The game feels like BOTW and runs on the same system yet it is very different. Theres so much more to this game, Its not a DLC at all. My only complaint is the weapon breaking system and that the old abilities don’t carry over to the game. I also see a lot ofIt improved on everything that made Breath Of The Wild perfect.     The game is perfect, with a lot of content, but the machine is too affected, the frame rate and resolution are not high, Nintendo should consider the next generation console, because there are many excellent games that are limited by the machine.

    GOTY material right here! The first game was the literally the best game I've played ever (I've played a ton of games) and this one is a huge sequel! If this one doesn't get GOTY, I don't know what game will. Nintendo really one of a few big game companies that doesn't release alpha versions of games so that we can playtest, but a complete and perfect game!

    Endless possibilities, endless skies, the only limit is your own creativity. Fantastic exploration in the best Open World to date. The best physics system in the industry. TotKs gameplay makes other games look like a tech demo.

    Best looking Switch game. What they achieved on this small machine is mind blowing. Great image quality, great attention to detail, and probably the best use of LOD in a video game ever so you can look across the whole gigantic map all the time at a stable performance and without any noticeable pop-ins. TotK is a technical masterpiece.

    Usually when you get older your favorite games are the ones that you played as a kid. This usually has to do with nostalgia. But when I played BOTW in 2017 I experienced one if not my favorite game at the time.
    TOTK builds upon that foundation and makes it even better. The story is a lot better and I was amazed at how good the game starts. Amazing themed dungeons have returned with varied enemies and imaginative riddles, few big surprises that I will not spoil here and    This game is the definitve Zelda to date. It is very surprising that it surpasses Breath of The Wild.

Please consider the huge improvement with the multiple maps: sky map, hyrule map and the dark mysterious underground map dat gives chills and goosebumps every time you enter it.
    I must emphasize, the mechanics are a work of incredible technical creativity and effort. Tears of the kingdom is levels beyond any game I have played to this day. This is the Epic adventure of a hero we have been waiting for, the definitive game.    … Expand

    The good thing is that, thanks to the limited possibilities, the creators couldn't go crazy and swing for hundreds of game miles. Instead, they created what could be called Elden Ring in a travel pack. [Issue#328]

    The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
