    Super Mario Odyssey is by far my favourite game of all time, the game goes back to the days of Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine and manages to perfect those formulas and ideas (such as the idea of losing your main companion and being put to the test in smaller challenges from Sunshine). The biggest original idea introduced here is Cappy a sentient hat that you can use to become various thingsSuper Mario Odyssey is by far my favourite game of all time, the game goes back to the days of Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine and manages to perfect those formulas and ideas (such as the idea of losing your main companion and being put to the test in smaller challenges from Sunshine). The biggest original idea introduced here is Cappy a sentient hat that you can use to become various things throughout the game.

    As well the amazing gimmick in becoming things, Cappy adds depth to the platforming and makes this the best controlling Mario we have ever had the privilege to play as. There are a ton of moves at your disposal that you lead into each other such as throwing Cappy midair and then diving into him to get further, and the motion controls don't feel forced they are integrated well into the game so that they fit into Mario's move set well. This game truly feels fun to just mess around in.

    The level design is fantastic but there are two kingdoms Ruined and Cloud kingdom that basically serve as a place to have a boss fight, which I feel is a tad underwhelming given the potential the themes these levels have, a medieval kingdom inspired Mario level is an idea that we have never seen before and I would love to see that idea expanded on further.

    But the rest of the kingdoms are massive open almost play ground like levels where every corner you turn has something new to discover. Levels such as the Sea Side Kingdom and the Sand Kingdom Are massive open spaces that let you go crazy and explore. But levels such as the Snow Kingdom and the Wooded Kingdom are multiple levels in one that you discover by exploring. The game actively encourages exploration, but not in a Metroidvania kind of way as it gives you hints in the map and Cappy's speech.

    The sound track is a mixed bag as some tracks can be somewhat forgettable, the ones that do land correctly will stay in your head for the next week. Songs such as Jump Up Superstar (The main theme) the Shivirea town theme and Steam Gardens are all great examples of video game music composing done right.

    A quick mention to the decorations and clothing you can get as it finally gives coins more of a purpose and the new purple coins make you explore the entire kingdom to its fullest.

    This game does something very rare for me. After I beat it I was sad it was over. just like Mario 64 before which is that I truly don't think it will ever get old. If you haven't played this yet go play it you wont be disappointed.

With this gameplay options, at some points you might just find yourself messing around with the controls, jumping and swinging from area to area like I do.

    The game runs at a smooth 60 FPS, and the visuals are stunning. The landscapes in this game are incredibly detailed and interesting.

    The soundtrack is fantastic, with awesome songs with a variety of different arrangements that combine to create songs that you're sure to come back to.

    The story is pretty basic, but that's not a necessarily a bad thing due to being just a Mario game. There isn't anything wrong with the story either, it's just a lighthearted and fun story that ends with a pretty great ending.

    What's great about this game is that it encourages the player to play how they want to play. You might go through some of the intended route on your first playthrough, but in future playthroughs you'll find yourself going through most of the game your way, which is really fun. Not to mention how replayable this game is. You will find countless of things to do both during and after you complete the main story, including many interesting side quests and several fun minigames.

    Overall, this is an absolute masterpiece from start to finish. If you're planning on getting Switch or already have one, this is the game to get.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Basically, imagine every mechanic from previous 3D super mario games all in one game. This is what you get. Being able to throw a cap around is incredible. Honestly, some of the worlds are probably the same size or a little larger than of the worlds from Super Mario 64. If not, then the space of each part of the world is equivalent to 64 and Sunshine and what not but that's probably just a spec issue with the switch that they had to deal with somehow. The worlds are still decently large for exploration. Despite all this, the game has a sense of freedom cause Mario isn't forced to return to a specific spot after grabbing one collectible but rather he just needs to get a "multi-moon" and is then teleported back to the start of the world but this is usually after you fight a boss. The game just feels like a gigantic playground that you wonder in. There's little that is required of you, you just have to follow the path, get past obstacles, and fight a boss. The game has the difficulty of Mario Galaxy, so you won't need Assist Mode unless you're too lost in the game, don't wanna lose 10 coins for every death, or you just miss the large amount of health Mario had. Anyway, there are tons of outfits to choose from in the game, but each require a certain amount of coins. This is the best of Mario and I love it. Not much has changed except Bowser's creative wedding plan but now that Mario's Moveset is expanded, it makes for a nice open-world. No dashing, but there's rolling and long-jumping (and even the famous air dive from Mario 64 DS). There also no punch or kick but at least Mario can beat his enemies thoroughly without a traditional fighting technique. Mario has been moderately under-powered but don't worry because cappy expands his moveset even farther. Allowing Mario to do many tricks and even out-numbering the tricks he can do in previous games. Now you can make up for that extra distance his Long Jump can't cover by just doing an air dive onto Cappy so he can bounce you up for extra air-time. There's so many collectibles to get and so many ways to get them. It's a legendary Mario sandbox and it's peak exploration.… Expand

    Super Mario Odyssey is the best Mario game. the graphics are excellent, the story is great, the platforming mechanics are very good, the camera controls actually work, which cannot be said for the other 3d Mario experiences. the mechanic of capturing enemies with Cappy is a good gimmick as well. this game is a must have for the switch.

    I have never loved a video game as much as I love this one. There's no other way to describe the Odyssey experience. So many hours of exploring and entertainment. Please let Nintendo make a sequel sooner than later.

    This game is everything right with 3D platforming. It was the reason why i bought a switch and I have put over 300 hours into it over the years. The capture mechanic was so interesting and innovative which made it so everytime I played a level I would approach it in a different way. The community that was created is also so intriguing and played a big part in me replaying it over and over again.

    As this was my very first Switch game, I am slightly biased for this game.
    However, this game is impossible not to love! It has the charm of Super Mario 64, and the creativity and graphics of Galaxy.
    The story is an AMAZING one, and the bossfights are amazing as well! Capturing enemies was a blast, and the gameplay is, once again, amazing!
    10/10, would recommend!

Sadly, there are some problems like how there is no hub world, the story, and the fact that most kingdoms have an island problem and that really takes away my immersion from this otherwise perfect game. The bar was already set so high but every new kingdom I explored just made the game even better. The core story is paced very tightly while still leaving plenty of room for side exploration and new discoveries to be made. Mechanics are finely tuned and superior to all other 3D Mario games I've played and the worlds to explore are simply unmatched.

    Just when I thought of something they could do to improve the game, I discover something so much better than what I thought of and I'm having fun collecting hidden moons long after I've completed the core game. What really is the icing on the cake however is the overall celebration he game delivers for Mario as a franchise. Returning to N64-inspired Peach's castle and completing quests really completes the experience makes this game the ultimate Mario celebration game in my book.

    If you're a long-standing Nintendo/Mario fan, you'll eat this up. If not, you'll probably enjoy the pure fun the game brings to the table anyway.    … Expand

    this game is so hard I cant even comprehend it. i find a moon on a pile of sand it took me an hour to get up to the sand that the pile had

    Great fun. Definitely one of the best games and probably my favourite mario platformer. Music's great. Bosses are a bit easy sometimes but it's hard to not love everything about this game. The new donk city level could be expanded into a whole game with the amount of ideas it introduces. Just go play it.

    There is no crazy story or characters its all about Mario and jump and run. All really ALL Kingdoms are so good designed (Only critic is that there are to much Moons and to easy to collect but in a normal play through it doesn't destroy the game play) I Really Enjoyed Super Mario Odyssey and i would recommend this game to    This game is just amazing!!

After Bowser sends Mario to Cap Kingdom he meets what will soon be his best friend, Cappy! This little fella let's him cap throw, cap jump, cap bounce, down throw, spin throw, up throw and more! This makes the movement very smooth. Specially with Mario's classic wall jumps, dives, etc. After this, Mario will adventure th ru many kingdoms to try and stop Bowser's and Peach's Wedding. After this Mario for the third time goes to space, where he would fight Bowser for the third time. And for the final plot twist, Peach just leaves him! But after this you have WAYYYYYYYYY MORE moons to collect! (880 to be exact) While some peopole might think that this game is worse than 3D World + Bowser's Fury, i personally disagree. And that's why i give Mario Odyssey a 10.… Expand

    I thought I wasnt a nintendo type of dude, but goddamn I thought games cant make me smile anymore, but this thing right here was quite the turning point for me. This probably even changed my view of gaming as a whole. I grew up playing quake/wolfenstein/cs/gta so I never tried any "softer" games, but oh man I started wishing I had after playing this masterpiece of a game.

Com certeza um dos melhores exclusivos do Nintendo switch, os gráficos são bons pro switch, a jogabilidade intuitiva, mecânicas sensacionais, e uma ótima diversidade de fases, não tive problemas com FPS, o jogo é super bem otimizado, e com certeza um dos melhores jogos do Mario 3d, o cappy é sensacional, ele agrega muito no jogo, até porque ele te permite ser um dinossauro, o bowser é super estiloso, existe diversos Ester eggs no jogo, existe fases em 2d, e pra mim, o único ponto negativo desse jogo, é o modo de 2 jogadores, porque não colocaram o Luigi, apesar do cappy ser um bom personagem, ele não combina com o modo de 2 jogadores, mas enfim, recomendo o jogo, e sensacional, e não é atou que tem uma nota tão alta nos agregadores de notas, jogaço!!!… Expand

Mario never feels slow or clunky in the slightest, and the game gives just enough leeway to make reaching areas a fun challenge without ever feeling like you're breaking the game. Every area in the game feels incredibly unique from oneI can confidently say this is my favorite Mario game at this point. I'm a big fan of Dark Souls but sometimes, I like smaller challenges. I like exploring in this game, trying to find every moon. Using the hat to take control of enemies (NPCs) is a great to make the gameplay a lot more diverse. Like many games from Nintendo, IIt's a good game for playing in front of my kids. Yes, it's relatively easy for someone my age but there are some harder zones. I'm a big fan of Dark Souls but sometimes, I like smaller challenges. And it's probably the best looking Mario game I've personally ever played. But the gameplay here is yourAfter all of these years, you know what you're going to get with a new 3D Mario game. While it's been awhile since the last 3D adventure for the former plumber, Nintendo made a few cool decisions to make this the pseudo-direct sequel to Mario 64, with a ton of throwbacks to that game. And it's probably the best looking Mario game I've personally ever played. But the gameplay here is your standard Mario stuff. Find the Star, or Moon in this game's case, collect enough of them to fight Bowser for at least the 50th time, and then spend a crazy amount of time trying to collect all 999(!) moons in the game to prolong the experience. Thankfully the game is very fun, even if the controls arent as tight as I'd like for them to be at certain points. Mario has a ton of new moves to keep himself in the air for longer but things get very tough when the more precise jumps now just don't seem to have the expertly crafted precision that a few previous games have had in the past. It can make getting all of the moons a bit tougher when some of them require such precise timing and jumps to even have a chance of getting them.
    At the end of the day however, this is still a Mario game, and the exact game that will sell even more Switch systems going forward. Nintendo has really hit a home run with how they've let the first 6 months or so of the system develop and it'll be even harder to find them going forward now. People will find this game very enjoyable, even if the 3D Mario games have become a bit stagnant in how they go about their business. But I guess if it's not broke, then there's no need to fix it for Nintendo. And, with there now being 1 Mario game for every 4 Switches sold only 3 days after launch, the money talks in this situation.    … Expand

    Super Mario Odyssey was so fun that I ended up beating the game twice. It constantly throws new gaming mechanics at you that are fun to master. The only major problem I had was that the game felt like it had too many moons to collect.

    Awesome game yet lacking some challenge. It is very much family oriented and therefore, at the begining it can be way too easy and therefore, slow. Once you beat the game, the real challenge starts and that's where long time fans start enjoying a homeage to that Mario challenge Nintendo used to put in their Mario games.

    Probably one of the most best looking game on the switch so far next to Breath of the Wild so far, and on the cusp of Doom which looks like it will be one of the best looking games this year out on the switch.

    The game starts out with the cliche of Bowser kidnapping the princess so she can become his bride, in a snazzy white outfit. As Mario you meet Cappy, a ghost like possessed hat that takes the remnants of your trashed Mario hat and becomes a copy of it, with possessable powers allowing you to throw your cap and take over enemies.

    From there You take a ship of the Hat people called the Odyssey, and travel from world to world, running after Bowser and his gang of wedding planners as they steal a ring, boquet of Flowers, the perfect dress.

    The game runs at a clean 60 frames per second, in 1080p Odyssey, the Switch pushes itsself to the limit which is a great thing for the game and also disappointing for switch owners who were hoping for even better looking game in the future.,

    The sound in this game is incredible, some of my favorites being the Wooded Kingdom jazzy soundtrack for the Mario 64 Water level inspired Lake Kingdom.

    As far as I am concerned, this game is a 9/10, the only thing that would make it a perfect 10 would be a little more difficulty.    … Expand

    Since everybody has already gone on for days about everything great about this game, I'll spend a little time on some of the complaints I have:
    -there's more than 850 moons in the game, but I'd say only 400 of them can be found doing worthwhile and truly activities that involve acrobatics or platforming or something else of that nature, whereas the rest are found doing things that aren't particularly exciting to challenging, such as light fetch questing, or jump roping, or looking at paintings, or throwing your hat onto things, etc. Collecting every moon is optional, so it never really gets in your way, but there are soooooooo many moons to collect, and less than half of the moons you can collect are collected doing the exciting stuff.
    -It is a really easy game. And that's fine. But of the 400 moons that you get doing the truly fun and exciting stuff, only around 20 of those moons are collecting doing anything genuinely challenging, such as that "darker side of the moon" portion at the end, which is the most one of the wonderfully enraging platforming sequences in any Mario game, and it just seems to stretch on forever, and it's so rewarding when you finally finish it. But there's only on sequence like that. I would've honestly liked their to be a few. Maybe not a few that long and frustrating, but it would have been nice to get more than just one prolonged sequence that tests the acrobatic skills you'll need to acquire from playing through the game.
    -There isn't much replay value. I found plenty of replay value in Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2, because basically all of the stars are collected doing fun acrobatic platforming or boss fighting with varying degrees of difficulty, but I don't see myself replaying Odyssey anytime soon, because only just less than half of the moons are collected doing fun stuff, the rest were fun to collect at the time because of the joy of discovery and figuring out what I need to do in each area to get new moons, but now that I know what I have to do, replaying it would just be busywork, whereas replaying through platforming sequences (which is what Super Mario Galaxy is based around), is genuinely fun to replay.

    But other than those fairly minor complaints, Odyssey is honestly some of the most fun I've ever had with any video game. I was tempted to give it a ten, because there is no single part of it that feels cumbersome, it's all a job to play from beginning to end, but I opted not to, just because I don't really see much replay value.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While Super Mario Odyssey is one of the greatest Mario games out there. can't say that the game is better than the classics. Super Mario 64 and Sunshine.
    overall pretty good game

    the good
    - new enemies
    - the power to possessed the enemies.
    - best customization suits and hats, I've ever seen.
    - pretty good new bosses to fight.
    - not using older bosses (the Koopalings) is a nice change for once.
    - and seeing the return of the roots from 64 and Sunshine

    The Bad
    - Luigi's absent as an unlock Playable Character (from SMG/SMG 2) was a missing opportunities for this game, but he later returns for finding balloons. :D    … Expand

    Imaginem todo o ambiente do Mario, só que em 3d com inovações! Talvez no início estranhe um pouco a câmera, que precisa ir se posicionando, nada que atrapalhe. O jogo é atrativo pela jogabilidade e a história vai se desenrolando com o sequestro da princesa. Os chefes dão um trabalhinho no começo, até pegar o jeito. Jogo obrigatório para o Switch!

    While it was difficult to imagine how Nintendo could top previous 3D Mario adventures, Super Mario Odyssey is nigh-on perfect in almost every way. With the help of Cappy, Mario has never been as fun to control, reaching new heights and, in the hands of a skilled player, accomplishing impossible skips. You need only pick up a controller to see why this is the best modern Mario game ever.

    The best entry to the best platforming series is so ridiculously huge it’s like a theme park made of theme parks. It’s a wonderful tribute to Super Mario 64, but it’s not a lazy homage. Super Mario Odyssey draws inspiration from the superb classic to top it and everything that came after it. [13/2017, p.38]
