This game is solid. I think this game is made for people who are curious about the MetroidVania genre. This one guides you well, plays smoothly and is not very punishing: i recommend you try it. As for exploration: there was pretty much none once I understood there's only 2 ways to go.
    1. you find a place (transport, boss, item), you're supposed to be here at this point in the game.
    2. you got a new item, find what blockage can now be passed.
So that looped until i found the final boss. There's more health and ammo upgrades to be found but that's it. All in all, I had a great time.

Then the false freedom, this game tries to make a fusion, between Metroid Fusion and Super Metroid, in level design specifically, this "False Freedom" consists of creating predefined corridors, and that you go through them, simple, Point A to Point B Although it is mixed with a Metroid Fusion design, with direct signals to where you have to go, but, the work that MercurySteam did, disguises it in an incredible way, which depending on how you see it, you may like it or otherwise.

And also this same sins of some failures, as most of the game the music is generic, or derivatives. Of the rest, the game is PERFECT, its controls are for the most part fun and intuitive, the bosses can be fun if you learn their patterns, the same soundtrack of the Bosses is incredible, the atmosphere is tetric in some moments, and I can continue and follow.

Before playing it I would recommend that you ask someone who already has it to try it, so these bugs do not ruin your game if you are picky.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s not really trying to be genre defining, just polishing what’s been done in the past games mainly the remake of Metroid 2. It’s still an amazing game each zone u pass through feels fun and full of adventure although that’s really an illusion when most of the zones are just filled up with missile up grades, kinda of a bummer when you’ve been wondering around for 2 hours only to find every hidden thing being a upgrade to health or missiles. On the up side movement always felt great combat and boss fights were just the best parts for me. Game can feel some what liner but that’s a difficult thing for me to explain I find my self comparing it to hollow knight but in hollow knight case ur only vaguely guided around the start while in dread it feels like ur being vaguely guided around your whole trip. Witch I guess isn’t a horrible thing doesn’t make the game any less fun. The difficulty of the game was also done really well never felt like something was impossible as long as I was paying attention to what’s being thrown at me, witch leads to the emme witch start off fairly simple but get more anxiety inducing later in the game especially with the emme that can hear u from anywhere. On the down side emme zones are mostly empty from what I found aside from a missile upgrade here and there. I won’t lie I wanted something hollow knight levels from the genre defining franchise Metroid but even tho I wasn’t given that I still had a great time with dread and what it had to offer. can’t wait till the next mission. Metroid Dread is personally my favorite Metroid game of all time. Everything from the exploration, weapons, collectibles, and story are near PERFECTION. I had a blast playing this game. The exploration was Zero Mission-like, not as interconnected as Super Metroid's, but very much alike to Zero Mission's style, where every area was separate and are connected through elevators. This game IS NOT like Samus Returns, where if you went from one area to the other, that meant that area you already visited was done for, no use of going back there unless you want to 100%. Metroid Dread basically requires you to go to every location and back, which I think is great since it gives you much of an incentive to 100% the game.

The story is fantastic. It takes what happens from Fusion and creates its own, very interesting story. It is recommended to playthrough the old Metroid games to get an understanding of the basic lore, but this is still a great game for newcomers. There is a ton of variety in the Boss Fights and I'm glad that every EMMI, and most bosses have unique styles so none of the battles are boring or bland at all.

This is a fantastic game. I definitely recommend it to those who have not played a metroid game or a metroidvania. You will have a great time.

TLDR: Awesome game, almost everything is perfect, a must buy for new-comers and veterans alike.

Metroid Dread is one of the best platformers, if not one of the best gaming experiences on the Switch period. The story is engaging and game length is appropriate. Can't comment on the ending, because the last boss is giving me a hard time right now...

So why is this not a 10/10? Because the exploration, while quite visually appealing, did not feel as open-ended and non-linear as some of the other elite games in the genre (I am aware that the original Metroid formula inspired every one of these games). Throughout Dread, while I did get lost a few times, I always felt like the path I was on still had a sense of linearity. For example, no optional bosses, and no items or upgrades that can be missed/skipped in completing the game (this may be inaccurate, as speedrunners have begun to find sequence breaks). The game even blocks off previous areas at times, forcing you into certain encounters or areas.

Overall, this is a great game. My gripes about exploration are greatly outweighed by the game's ability to provide a thoroughly satisfying and quality gaming experience. It left me wanting more, which may ultimately be a good thing, I just didn't have this nagging feeling after playing, say, Hollow Knight...just saying.

The game was fine in my eyes, and I think Hollow Knight and Ori is a better metroidvania game. Metroid Dread, in my opinion, is a better version of Hollow Knight, with less difficulty.
Metroid Dread was a lot of fun, and reading some of the reviews with people saying they were fans of previous entries saying this game is bad, makes me confused. The game has better graphics than most of the Switch's first party titles. The game forces you to use the joy stick, which may felt weird at first, but you would eventually get used to it. And the games difficulty isn't that difficult like most of these reviews say.
The difficulty of Metroid Dread may feel hard at first, but if you actually pay attention, every attack has a weakness, and is easy to avoid. Each bosses can feel unpredictable at first, but when you take your time, you would eventually learn the attack patterns judging from their movements alone, giving you more than enough time to avoid and counter attack.
Back tracking is expected in a Metroidvania, but this games backtracking isn't really as bad as people say, and I think it I only backtracked once or twice when I tried to progress, with most of my overall backtracking is to collect the optional item upgrades (increasing in missile capacity and etc). Most of the times, when you unlock a new ability, the game would put you near a teleporter that would basically be a sign that says, this is where you have to go next. And if people say that it's confusing, then there is the map, which literally tells you every gate or blast doors that you may have missed.
The E.M.M.Is, is the most understandable ones, and I think they aren't too bad. The first time you meet them, you would probably be terrified, but after some time, they can feel old and annoying. But it isn't really too much of a hassle when you get used to them.
I saw a complaint that finding all items should have given you a different experience, either you collect all the items and make the game feel easy, or don't collect items, and make the game feel hard, with Metroid Dread feeling completely pointless to collect all items. In Super Metroid, I didn't collect all the items, but that doesn't mean the boss is automatically harder, it just means I don't have enough missiles to spam, because in Super Metroid, the more you collect, the more you can use, and in Dread, it feels the same way, where if you have more missiles, you would be able to use more missiles against the bosses, rather than the charge beam, which would technically make the game feel easier in some ways. This complaint felt redundant, considering the bosses is already not too difficult if you know what to do.
Overall, these reviews, saying they were fans of previous Metroid games, seems to feel a bit too negative, or probably blinded by nostalgia, because some of these complaints are clearly the same things I can see as problems for Super Metroid, and if Super Metroid is the best Metroid game, and if you have these 'issues' that these people say, then it is difficult for me to see them liking Super Metroid. If you feel that you don't like Metroid dread, then revisit Super Metroid, and compare your experience on these issues that people have, because in my eyes, Metroid Dread is the better than most modern metroidvanias.

After almost 20 years we finally have a sequel to the 2D series of Metroid games! Considering that, Dread does a great job of combining the new modern combat with the old elements of research and advancement, and it doesn't hurt that we have some of the best boss fights in the series. Taking up the torch of a series interrupted nineteen years ago is never an easy task, but the MercurySteam studio is doing it with honors! The developers have chosen the path of security while perfectly respecting the spirit of the previous episodes, to the detriment of true modernity.
