Excellent game. This is without a doubt one of the best turn based strategy game every created. And it came from ubi, contains mario and rabbids - who would've guess it could be so good? Of course it has its flaws like backtracking but hell it still deserves perfect score :) I was hesitating to buy this because i didn't believe this will really work - so if youre unsure just give it a shot!

Ubisoft have done a great job here at making the characters and worlds come to life, and the majority of the bosses in Mario + Rabbids have fun mechanics and unique personalities better than the Mario villains themselves. My only gripe would be the lack of an "undo" button, or additional prompt after moving one of my three active characters, as it became frustrating when I accidentally moved them to an unintended location. All in all though, a great game, one I would recommend, and I look forward to even more story content via DLC (Donkey Kong)! Refreshing to see Nintendo trusting third parties with their biggest names, and hopefully there's more to come over the next few years or so. Expand

It's a unique game, Nintendo and Ubisoft really did it this time. They took two worlds and a genre that seems to disappear and did a break table!

The game is very demanding, specially if you want to passed it without use the "easy mode". The durability is not long but is beacuase the difficulty that it entails to win with perfect score all the battle and challenges.

One thing that I need to remark is its music (special mention the BSO of world 4) and graphics (special mention to world 3). It is so great! I thought I was in a Ilumination´s Mario Movie!

Go and play it. If you are not in the genre does not matter! Mario+Rabbids is more than that!

Mario + Rabbids is a great change of pace in terms of Mario games. I am a huge fan of the XCOM series and I was impressed how this game almost mimicked the XCOM set up minus a few details. I think the extra challenges after I beat a world are a little too hard, but I'm not great at the game. Overall, the game is very fun and beautiful but the deployability for me is not here. I would give it a 8.0. Expand

The best way to explain this game without spoiling your experience is that it's not what you expect it would be. It can be really difficult, and it's really charming throughout this game. It's no masterpiece, but it's special in it's own right.

If you like funny gamesstrategy or even just Mario or the Rabbids, This game is for you.

To be honest. It was fun at first. The concept of the game is great, the writing is memorable and funny. it had promise. but the more i played it the more i started seeing the flaws.

As you go on in the game they introduce more enemies and the next one is worst then the last. giving them abilities that make it way harder to fight. especially the "peak-a-boos". not just the enemies

not just the enemies getting unfair but the game itself feels like its always against you. the enemy gets way more crit hits then you. if you are under 50% cover they will more likely hit you then you hitting them in the same cover. its like the game wants you to fail which makes what supposed to me a strategy game more of a luck game.

and the biggest thing i hate about the game is the saving. there is no save button. ubisoft ditched manual saving forever ago and it sucks. this game can't depend on auto saves cause it breaks half the time. im recording the game for youtube currently and when we stop recording after a battle i like to go to the castle to get upgrades and hopefully save progress before continuing. but then i return to the world and i have to redo the fight i just did. which sometimes is a fight that took crazy long do to unfairness of the game.

i wish nintendo stepped in a lot more then they did cause ubisoft couldn't make this game as good as nintendo would have and its a shame cause i would have liked it if it wasn't for all these issues. i like the concept. but it all fell apart

Ubisoft's patches to the game have added a free local multiplayer versus mode, which is similarly great, and is the key to forgetting about the horrible RNG after endgame, and the gold edition not worth buying. Kingdom Battle is a burden for those new to strategy games, but the skills to success are taught within the game, making this a great all-around title for anyone looking to expand their Nintendo Switch library. The silly little DLC's, such as the "pixel pack" that came with the game since I pre-ordered it, are kind've dumb and pointless. I honestly didn't even know that would come with my copy of the game, but I couldn't really care less that it did, and it didn't do anything to enhance the gameplay experience.

The amount of missions and activities that come with the game, without the purchase of DLC, are more than adequate, which is a relief. I was glad Ubisoft didn't gate off core features of the game and hold them for ransom. You're actually getting a full gameplay experience with the purchase of this title alone. It's got a really fun combat system, though I do wish it was just a little more challenging.

The game comes with approximately 40+ main missions, with another extra 40 challenges, and then there's the co-op missions, which are also fun, but there's not point in having another friend to do them with you since it's essentially just passing control back and forth between players, and you're not doing anything simultaneously, which is a little disappointing. In all, there's around 60 hours worth of content if you do all of the missions and challenges and co-op missions, in case the amount of content is important to anybody. Though I'd say only around 35 hours worth of that content is doing the truly enjoyable stuff combat related stuff, the other 25 is spent walking around the worlds, which is oftentimes amusing, and the puzzles are fairly okay. While exploring the worlds is amusing, I do wish it had been cut down significantly, since it really doesn't add a whole lot to the experience, and sometimes it's just downright tedious.

My only other complaint would be the little robot thing that guides you throughout your journey. I find it distracting, and I don't find it particularly funny or cute, aside from an occasionally clever line here and there.

Those fairly minor complaints don't detract from the fact that this game contains an incredibly fun and inventive combat system, and it does contain quite a bit of personality and humor. And there's also a sequence that contains what is possibly my second favorite opera singing boss fight of all time (Conker's Bad Fur Day contains the first)

I'm genuinely pleased with this game. I'm not a huge SRPG fan, but with Mario being the glue that all this takes place in, I found the atmosphere inviting and I was willing to give it a shot. The graphics are top-notch and the music score is pretty decent as well. Happy with the boss designs, especially World 3&4, fantastic. There was little things that hold it back from being great, a variety of items dropping in crates are mainly just music and statues, nothing to help in the game besides new weapons (which I thought were done well with the red coins) and some of the escort missions can get tedious. I like the simple blue puzzle cannon worlds and the camera switching didn't bug me as much. I thought one more world would have solidified the game, the first two words I thought were the best overall in design, and by time world 4 came around I was ready to be done because we got into the darker tone worlds which are never my favorite in Mario games.

The rabbids sometimes are funny, sometimes annoying, but not nearly as bad as I thought they would be. Loved the selfie stuff...who would have thought. Overall a fun game worth checking out. I see my self eventually going back to do some of the extra things. 80/100

The game has an awesome amount of charm, the gameplay works incredibly well, and the Rabbids never reach their true height of stupidity we've seen in previous games. This game's combat even has an interesting amount of depth. All the characters have specific abilities that can be upgraded as you see fit, and there are plenty of weapons at your disposal. A really good startegy Game for the Switch. I admit: I was sceptical when I first saw a Crossover with the Rabbits, but luckily it didn´t drag the Game down. If you like XCOM then you will probably get some enjoyment out of this Game.
Especially the presentation is genius. I usually play on a PC and use my Switch on the Go, and this is one of the few Games where 30 FPS aren´t bothering me

Except it's extremely weird. I give it points for innovation in places, but the game is very no frills with some decent mechanics.

    Pros:

-Combat can be fun, but is rigid due to how specialized each character is. Some maps are very hard without certain characters.
    -The music is great
-Interesting new mechanics for a SRPG, like unlimited movement in a given area, dashing into enemies for damage, using a team jump to clear status ailments or mover further, ect.
    -Large amount of overall content
-The challenges are more fun than the regular levels
-Boss fights are challenging and a lot of fun
    -Really neat weapon designs
    -Game encourages thinking about problems
-Only experienced a few crashes, relatively stable and I didn't notice any bugs outside of the crashes.

    Cons:

-Forced to use a Rabbid for some reason. The Mario characters are no more powerful than the Rabbids and no less either, just slightly different. Why is the player forced to use one?
-No map available while exploring, have to return to the hub to view the map. This is very tedious and frustrating when trying to simply find the next level or all of the challenges, ect.
-Game is very basic with skill trees that are mostly passive bonuses. Very clear over/under tuned abilities in the tree.
-Only about 5 different main enemy types + bosses.
-Game is very easy or very hard, depending on your weapon level and characters used, it's ridgid
-In game world puzzles are awful and cliche. Should have been axed entirely. Also, once you complete puzzles, they're sill active, so some you must navigate every time you pass through an area and without an easily accessible map it can be very frustrating
-The writing is very...European? It's bad and not funny. You will not be interested or forget why you were doing this to begin with. The writing does not fit AT ALL with what you would expect from a Nintendo game (in a bad way) the Roomba character swears all the time (bleeped out of course), Mario characters talk completely out of character, ect. Most of the game your running along hitting a to occasional what zany thing the Rabbids got into. It's incredibly boring and not funny. It's like, "oh look at this Rabbid that's sitting there, I wonder what he is thinking?" ZzZzZzzz...
-Visuals very basic, likewise with animations. Many maps lack verticality (despite talents for it) and the maps are all large open area connected by pipes with slightly different themes and very little non destructible cover. It gets boring to look at in-stage. Non destructible full cover might as well not exist later on, not that it really matters later on. The game is very kill now or be killed, save boss fights.

If you can find your way around the maps, deal with the bad puzzles, ect., there's a fun game in there sometimes. I probably wouldn't have kept playing if I didn't enjoy tactics games and this game didn't enjoy some of the mechanics. For most I would wait until the game drops to $20-$30 if you want to try it. It's not that fun or worth most peoples time. Thank you.

Overall, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle brings a welcome shot of vitality to the turn-based strategy genre thanks to interesting team mechanics and a colorful Nintendo theme that sets it apart from its contemporaries. Taking one of the biggest IPs in the world and marrying it to an all new type of gameplay was a huge risk that paid off wonderfully, and I’m glad that it finally found its way to my Switch. Now, bring me a sequel with a couple of needed improvements and 100% fewer rabbids, and we’re in business…

Mario + Rabbids is an incredibly welcome surprise. I assumed that a game starring Rabbids would become grating long before completion, but my fears turned out to be unsubstantiated. Beep-0 is a great lead character, and the Rabbids' hijinks are dialed back to a level that works. This is a fun take on a tactical RPG; the simplification of hit percentages worked especially well. The game isn't without fault — greater variety in characters and levels along with more meaningful customization would be welcome — but most of the issues are minor in comparison to how much fun the game is to play. Hopefully Mario + Rabbids marks the beginning of a new series and a sequel will take these ideas further.

Ubisoft acquired Nintendo’s license, added some Rabbids in the mix and entrusted the game to its Italian studio that never developed any large game on its own. What’s more, neither the studio nor both IPs had anything to do with tactical games. I still don’t understand how Kingdom Battle turned out so good. [11/2017, p.46]
