Gets old VERY VERY fast, unbelievably aggravating at some points and the rewards aren't very "rewarding" whatsoever. By halfway through I was just done with this crap. Oh yes, also it crashed several times for me, not sure if others have had this problem but some battles can be 20+ minutes long and very difficult and for it to crash halfway through is unbelievably frustrating.

It's easy to learn, but it gets surprisingly deep as the game progresses. The gameplay is something like Xcom. Every level is a gridded plane. You move your characters somewhere safe to fire your gun. In this game, there is cover. Large blocks completely protect your character from enemy fire. Half blocks have a fifty percent chance of protecting you from enemy fire. There is a shop in this game, where you can get new weapons and abilities. Abilities can be upgraded with power orbs, which'll make your character more elastic or make them more powerful. There are 8 characters in the game, all with different specialties. Pick wisely and you'll get through the game more easily. This game has a decently meaty main campaign, but there's a heck ton of replayability and post-game content that it completely justifies the pricing point. The music and writing in this game are both stellar. The humorous dialogue and clever gags really made me laugh out loud a lot of times. The music in this game is very catchy. You can clearly tell that there were loads of great composers in the making of the game. Graphically, this game looks awesome. Everything is decked out with details. Just taking a walk around the map brings some amazing vibes. If this game has one problem, it's that the game is a bit laggy at times. Plus, there should be some difficulty options in the main campaign. I'd love to replay the game once again with a bit more spice. Overall, this game is amazing and certainly a must-buy if you're a fan of turned-based combat. Have a lovely day/night, folks! Expand

The only other gripe I would have with it is that the collectibles aren't too rewarding, Concept art and models for me were a waste of time, Collecting music tracks too. I never felt too excited when opening a chest but thats a small gripe as the game is still loads of fun. Would love to see a sequel to this in the future Expand

    - You are forced to use Mario. While I don't mind because I think mario is fantastic in this game (others don't like using him) it does hinder the team variety.

It may be me, but I'm not a huge fan of the Disney-like, "heroic" stiffness of Nintendo's heroes. Pulling Rabbids into their world injects a bit of joyful sloppiness and chaos into that squeaky clean (and sometimes slightly creepy) mushroom kingdom. It's like seeing Mickey Mouse's house overrun by the Simpsons–not only it works, it gives you some sort of guilty pleasure.

This game pulls off that hazardous mashup with expertise, and the result is sometimes hilarious. If you like the rabbids' animated antics, you'll find that Mario + Rabbids contains some of the funniest cutscenes in recent memory. The game also has plenty of content, and tight playability that's addictive in the best sense of the word. Its turn-based nature is a perfect fit for the Switch's pick-up/drop-down nature. And last but not least, it has extremely high production values. I usually prefer indie games over those stuffy AAA productions–but just like Nintendo does, Ubisoft proved that it knew how to build something good with all that money.

The only weak point of this game is its difficulty, that's quite uneven. The game starts at an almost perfect level of challenge, but it seems to become easier in the last two worlds–except for the final two battles, that suddenly feel unfairly hard. That being said, the spike in challenge is not as bad as it feels at first. I went from being upset by the apparently impossible challenge to beating the game in the space of a few tries, and landing that final blow on the ultimate boss was extremely satisfying.

I didn't enjoy the game so much that I feel the need to unlock all its overabundant secrets, but that's only because there are other great games to play–including Mario + Rabbids' DLC. If you have any kind of interest into turn-based tactical games, and you don't actively hate rabbids, this is a game worth playing.

The sneaky option to get additional HP at the beginning of a battle feels like cheap cheating, and makes any strategic challenge of the game pointless. If you want to pander to people with low gaming skills, introduce a proper "easy mode" option at the beginning of the game, instead of tempting people to cheat each and every time they find a bit of difficulty.

I will update my score if my impression changes later in the game, but if it remains the same, it will likely go down to a 6/10. I would only recommend this game to Mario fans, when the game is on sale.

This is probably the most addictive game on Switch, which is saying a lot. It can be challenging to decide which toons you want to use, but the game gives you a hint by dropping equipment for only specific characters per level. Which in itself is fun.

Fantastic turn based tactical shooter that makes perfect use of the Mario license even when saddled with the Rabbids license. Less depth than X-COM, but felt more enjoyable. Beautiful colors, with a big twist on normal tactical shooters.

i absolutely can't stand this game, i played it for like 5 minutes and there are WAY too many unskipable cutscenes, it's just sad to see RPGs these days go so downhill with them being unbearably too many cutscenes.

Witcher 3, Max Payne 2, Half-Life 2, The Last of Us, которые круче!

I played through the whole game when it launched on August 2017 and it was a brand new and unique experience for me. This is a good crossover that I would have never thought of but it works. I haven't played the game since March 2018 and I am replaying it again and it is still fun. Solid purchase for any switch user.

Don;'t treat this game like your average Mario platformer or even the RPG spin-off. This game will kick you in the balls time and time again, and is defiantly not for younger players or even adults. However, the game was obviously meant for children as there is a ton of bathroom humor, rude jokes, and the abundance of the proto-minions known as the Rabbids, annoying rabbits who are infuriating both to watch and ESPECIALLY to listen too. However, the Rabbid's insanity factor has been heavily toned down from the previous rabbids game, Rabbid Party U and it's tie-in TV show Rabbids Invasion. Overall, I'll are this a crazy frog X-Com mod skin. It's annoying , obnoxious, and is irrelevant and a dead meme paired with a nearly impossible game for only the most hardcore of strategy fans. Definitely one of the best strategy games ever created. The whole tone and manner is lighter than other games on the same genre, which is pretty refreshing and fun (I don't know why this genre always brings up serious theme to it), but don't be fooled by all the cuteness as the level design is pretty challenging.

The first one is this game shouldn’t exist, I can’t believe Nintendo allowed Ubisoft access to Nintendo’s flagship IP (intellectual property). I think this is a great sign and maybe Nintendo will be willing to let Nintendo characters be guest characters in other games. Regardless Rabbids and Mario are such a weird combination but here we are. The other shock is the game is good? A game with Rabbids is not only good but funny? I did not see that coming.

I hate to reduce the game by calling it a Xcom knock off but that’s kind of what the game is. The big difference to me is Xcom is much more frantic and chaotic where this is much more of a strategy game. Because the game is either 50% or 100%, it allows you to plan ahead and devise viable a strategy to beat every level.

Each level is kind of like golf where each hole is a par 3, 4, 5 or whatever. This game has a similar approach to the levels where each battle has “x” amount of turns to complete. If the battle is a par 3 and you do it in 3 turns then you’re rewarded with a little more experience so your cast of characters is a little stronger and little better. What this does, it encourages you to strategize and its almost as if it’s a fun puzzle to solve.

The game does have a story although it’s not the games greatest strength. It starts out with a young girl who appears to be a young genius and has created a device that melds things together. With her being a genius she’s also a Nintendo fanatic so she has Nintendo memorabilia all over her bedroom. When she leaves her bedroom, Rabbids appear out of nowhere in a washing machine, time machine thing. A Rabbid proceeds to put on her melding device and thats how Rabbids end up in the Mushroom Kingdom.

This when the game begins. You start out with Mario, Rabbid Luigi, and Rabbid Peach. As you play through the game, you unlock more characters like Luigi, Rabbid Mario, and Peach. Later on, you do unlock Yoshi and Rabbid Yoshi but it’s too late in the game for them to even make an impact. Of all the characters in the game, my favorite was Rabbid Luigi. With his vampire ability, I was able to do damage and keep the rest of my team healthy and alive.

There is one thing that I have to talk about and that’s about halfway through the game you fight a boss. He’s the Phantom Rabbid Boss and this fight is one my favorite moments of the year. He’s like an opera singer and what he sings about is basically him insulting Mario. I don’t want to get into specifics of what he says but man it’s so good.

Now that I’ve talked about the best part of the game (that boss), now I have to talk about a few complaints I have with the game. The game overstays its welcome, it’s a little too long. The first two worlds move along quickly but then the third world seems to take a lot longer and then the final world just felt like it took half the game to finish. It probably wasn’t that long but it felt like a long time. I eluded to this earlier but you get Yoshi and Rabbid Yoshi far too late in the game. By the time you get them, you’ve already come up with viable strategies and you’ve already put the resources into other units. In my opinion, you should unlock all of the characters by the end of the first world.

My recommendation for this game is to take it slow. Sit down and play for an hour at a time and play it for a few weeks. That way it won’t overstay its welcome. I do recommend this game and its one of my favorite games that I have played this year but its not something you want to mainstream in a couple days.

It also didn't feel like they did a very good job of introducing you to all the various game mechanics. I got through the first major area (fought the first major boss). Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is an RPG where you'll need to position your team of three characters and attack enemies with weapons. There are a number of techniques available; while moving, you can run into an enemy to damage them, and characters have specific abilities. Taking guarding into account is important too, as you can avoid enemy fire, but enemies can also guard themselves from you, forcing you to think about where to put your characters so that you can both attack enemies and minimise your own damage taken.

Between battles, there are sections where you control characters around the world, solving puzzles and finding secrets. Both aspects of the gameplay are fun, and it gets quite difficult too.

The game has a lot of charm, such as the amusing weapon descriptions and interactions between the Mario cast and their Rabbid counterparts. It won't appeal to everyone, and I found that it occasionally glitches/lags, but Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a great RPG and game in general, with surprisingly deep gameplay and great music.

I'll admit, the game is unexpectedly fun, and while the main gameplay is pretty much just "X-Com" with Mario & Rabbids, it feels different enough to be enjoyable to an extent.

To begin, the first cutscene shows how the Raving Rabbids found their way into Mario's colorful, happy-go-lucky world. And as anybody who's heard of these annoying creatures, the Rabbids begin to wreak havoc across the Mushroom Kingdom. And so it's up to Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and their Rabbid Cosplaying-Counterparts to save the day.

The main gameplay is an RPG, again, similar to X-Com. However, their are some parts of the game that require puzzle-solving skills to move onward, giving you a break from battling. While these puzzles may be challenging, the rewards aren't so worth it to hurt your brain over, unless you love looking at 3D Dioramas of the characters in the game, go crazy.

The main hub-world, Princess Peach's Castle, is a bit confusing once you pass the first few chapters in the game. You've got buildings scattered across Peach's lawn that the Rabbids built, and while the contents of these buildings are useful, the buildings themselves are virtually useless since you can already change your weapons and characters before the start of any battle.

That's Story Mode, no let's talk Multiplayer. It was actually much more fun to battle against my friends than to play and adventured filled with slow-paced puzzles and useless rewards. Their's not really much else to talk about the Multiplayer option.

Overall, it feels weird (and wrong) to see the Raving Rabbids and Super Mario on the same screen. But if you can ignore that (which I can't) then maybe you'll enjoy this game. As for other stuff such as graphics and music are mediocre, but as for the main gameplay of the combat system is a blast.

Whilst the game can be fun in the beginning, the repetitive gameplay mechanics eventually just get boring and, you guessed it repetitive. While it is great to see another Mario RPG, they need to at least add a little bit more action.

Great game. loved it from start to finish. Nintendo could learn from ubisoft about how to make an overworld for the next 2d Mario game. Gameplay is fun and challenging at times, but not too hard. Well worth the cost of admission.

The union of the world of Mario with that of the Rabbids, hilarious bunnies and at the same time with an "evil" mind, is absolutely brilliant. It offers a fast and intuitive game-play, but at the same time it manages to put the player in difficulty with different strategy and combat techniques. The story is really fun, especially thanks to the Rabbids.

How do you make a Nintendo game if you aren't Nintendo? Mario+Rabbids feels like a poor attempt at making a Nintendo game, at least to me. Mario+Rabbids feels like a poor attempt at making a Nintendo game, at least to me. I really enjoy strategy games, but the amount of randomness, the lack of polish, the lack of ability to plan anything beyond your next turn combined with an unfair difficulty and a bad difficulty curve that out of nowhere just gets extremely challenging mid-way through the game and the unability to save during chapters make this just frustrating to play. There is some humor and the Skill Trees are really well made, but not even the graphics feel good, at least not when compared to Odyssey(a Real Time game) or even Super Mario Galaxy. When you got a strategy game where you can spend hours in a battle, but in the last turn when everything you planned had gone perfectly, the enemy just gets a random status that causes him to run away. There is literally a enemy that teleports to a random spot in every turn, and every shot has a chance of hitting. Expand

Overall, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle brings a welcome shot of vitality to the turn-based strategy genre thanks to interesting team mechanics and a colorful Nintendo theme that sets it apart from its contemporaries. Taking one of the biggest IPs in the world and marrying it to an all new type of gameplay was a huge risk that paid off wonderfully, and I’m glad that it finally found its way to my Switch. Now, bring me a sequel with a couple of needed improvements and 100% fewer rabbids, and we’re in business…

Mario + Rabbids is an incredibly welcome surprise. I assumed that a game starring Rabbids would become grating long before completion, but my fears turned out to be unsubstantiated. Beep-0 is a great lead character, and the Rabbids' hijinks are dialed back to a level that works. This is a fun take on a tactical RPG; the simplification of hit percentages worked especially well. The game isn't without fault — greater variety in characters and levels along with more meaningful customization would be welcome — but most of the issues are minor in comparison to how much fun the game is to play. Hopefully Mario + Rabbids marks the beginning of a new series and a sequel will take these ideas further.

Ubisoft acquired Nintendo’s license, added some Rabbids in the mix and entrusted the game to its Italian studio that never developed any large game on its own. What’s more, neither the studio nor both IPs had anything to do with tactical games. I still don’t understand how Kingdom Battle turned out so good. [11/2017, p.46]
