A highly entertaining RPG that no PSP-owning fan of the genre should pass up. Your socks won't be blown off, but your role-playing desires will be satiated. Isn't that more important?
-
Had the translation and control problems been adjusted, Heroes could have been an exceptional experience. As it stands, this game will probably only fill the void for serious role-playing fanatics.

Play MagazineBoth on the field and in towns, LoH is big on events...and character development. [Jan 2006, p.51]
-
If you are looking for a Final Fantasy style RPG then you will be disappointed... It more than satisfied my craving for a good game with a great story.
-
Only a mediocre affair, which is a crying shame. I point the finger at Bandai for apparently hiring some high-school kids to translate the game.
-
You really have to dig deep to reveal the charm of this game but if you're willing to invest a chunk of your immediate future into it you will definitely want to get to the end to find out what happened to your sister and your best friend. It's captivating in an addictive way.

Electronic Gaming MonthlyUnderneath the rote plot elements is a thoughtful tale packed with great characterization and surprising good humor. [Jan 2006, p.129]
-
This lengthy Japanese role-playing game doesn't break the mold in any way, but it packs in some good-looking anime artwork and tons of characters and story in a portable package.
-
It's very much the baseline definition of a Japanese console RPG -- with all the bad and good that entails.
-
The good: it’ll take about 40 hours to beat, the character design is great, and RPG veterans will feel right at home with the gameplay. The bad: the dialog localization is poor, there’s a fair amount of backtracking, and the game does nothing new. The good does outweigh the bad, however.

Official U.S. Playstation MagazineReally rolls back the clock, but it also makes an excellent time waster, and its up-to-date visuals help take the edge off. A solid adventure. [Jan 2006, p.105]
-
Legend isn't bad, its just predictable recycled material that fits into a nice storybook adventure.
-
PSM MagazineIt's familiar, well-crafted, and fits well on PSP. [Jan 2006, p.76]
-
Consider Legend of Heroes a satisfying snack that will tide you over until a must-have PSP RPG main course is served.
-
netjakWhile the combat is simplistic and the game doesn't take a lot of risks, it does make for a solid enough package that like Arc the Lad: Twilight of Spirits, is slightly better than the sum of its parts.
-
The real fact of the matter with this game is that it does achieve its main focus. Which is to waste time. The formula of whacking monsters to make my numbers go up and make my characters the uberist is there.
-
A Tear of Vermillion is yet another example of shameful missed opportunity for the sake of safe expectations and profit margins.
-
Heroes hasn't stood the test of time, but if you ever thought "Lunar" was fun after 1996, this game will be a classic in your eyes.
-
Game InformerI can't see the point in playing a boring retro-wannabe when there are plenty of good games that are actually retro and don't use "old-school" as an excuse for lack of originality. [Jan 2006, p.156]
-
The sad part about Legend of Heroes is that it's over too quickly. I mean, there are several quality hours of questing here, and it moves along at such a pace that it's hardly ever considered boring, but once it ends, there's really no real reason to go through it again and again.
-
While this is a valiant effort to fill a much-needed gap in portable gaming, there are just too many issues that keep this game from being all that fun or anywhere close to becoming as next-gen as the system you are playing it on.
-
A bit of a disappointment however, as it just doesn't provide any new or an original feel. Therefore the game feels a bit bland and doesn't have a new or fresh feel to it.
-
Slow pacing, tedious backtracking, inane minor quests, problematic controls, and unfulfilling combat combine to make one very non-portable title that has too many problems to ignore, even if this is the only game in town.
-
A Tear of Vermillion does have a rich world to explore and an interesting cast. But with out an original story to tie the entire gametogether or great gameplay Legend of Heroes isn’t legendary at all. [JPN Import]
