Over the past several months you have logged many hours aiding the Mortician in daily tasks along with learning the ins and outs of the embalming process as well as how to properly handle and care for the deceased.

Late one night, you are called into work to handle some embalmings. Death doesn't keep day time hours. But there is something different about these bodies because there is something different about you.

Perform embalmings, handle the various jobs around the mortuary, and exorcise demonic forces. All in a day's work.

The Mortuary Assistant: Definitive Edition is everything I want from a horror game. It makes you feel uncomfortable and never allows you to relax, all while giving you plenty to do and learn along the way.

Not since P.T. has PlayStation seen such an effective single location horror experience. With its simple setup, looping story, and inventive scares, Mortuary Assistant is borderline essential for genre fans.

Just as solid as when it first took horror streamers by storm, now with added content so you can play in the certainty you still haven’t seen every scare. [Issue#45, p.91]

Excellent horror game, The Mortuary Assistant Definitive Edition is great for those expecting quick and always different playthroughs. With an impressive amount of scares, lore updates, and visual improvements, it returns in an even better version.

Horror fans are likely to appreciate the brilliant premise of The Mortuary Assistant, and will enjoy the fact it's genuinely creepy and unpredictable. Preparing bodies is surprisingly engaging, and there are multiple endings to discover which will keep players returning for more, but unfortunately the PS5 version is very rough around the edges.

Despite a clumsy jump to console, The Mortuary Assistant remains an incredibly effective horror game.

Some gamers enjoy experiences that gamify mundane work activities. The fun is how accurately it can capture the experience of the profession. The Mortuary Assistant: Definitive Edition not only cheapens the effort put into making cadavers presentable for funerals, but it also turns into a major hassle with Paimon constantly pestering Rebecca, thinking it’s amusing to remind her of her past heroin use. This could have worked if more thought had been put into the embalming process and if the presentation had been more polished.
