In fact, in addition to the huge visual changes, the gameplay really feels different compared to the original, but this is not part 2 level. For those who are not familiar with the original, this will be a great purchase, the rest I recommend waiting for the discount.

The better game is the Remastered version for PS4. The Remastered version has respectable graphics still and online multiplayer that is still active. A good stroll down memory lane. Priced tag at 70 bucks? Don't do it. Sale for around 20-49? Do it. Free playstation game of the month? Cop it.

One of the greatest narratives of all time in a video game. Nearly 10 years on and it still floors me how deep I can connect to these characters and feel for them through and through. While they do substitute that with the DLC "Left Behind" it still does not justify the $70 price tag AT ALL!

What's kept from the original story remains brilliant, with some tweaks to combat and a new upgrading system that is taken from Part II. All in all a great experience, just wait for the price to drop to a reasonable $30-40 which is what it should have been to begin with.

Solid remake of the visuals and Joel’s movement but they should have expanded some of the levels to justify the price. The game is extremely generous in resource drops which kills some of the tension.

From a fan of the series, I want to be fair with this review. Game was great, and now it's greater. Is it worth 80 euros, only for fans I think. So I gave it a good 8

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’ll start by prefacing with what pretty much EVERYBODY has stated before. 70 dollars is too much, and it should be closer to 40-50 dollar range.
    New stuff:
Joel can smash windows and glass objects and climb through, akin to Part 2.

The camera has been reworked to be more dynamic during gameplay and combat.

The duelsense feature has been integrated to even feel when raindrops hit your head, and is an impressive display of the ps5s tech prowess.

The same dualsense plays a role in feeling the impact of combat. The redone graphics provide impressive facial features and some animation have actually been ported from part 2, notably during Ellie’s winter portion or whenever Joel smashes a window or door.

Enemies will now do a 180 turn around during patrol (also from part 2).

The weapons have all been redesigned to allow visible upgrades from the redesigned work bench. The game came with the standalone dlc “left behind” (an entertaining story in its own right). Also resigned with all the above. Some specific character models from part 2 have been inserted for eagle eyed players (supposedly Seth is in the game). The surgeon is also more overtly Abby’s father from part 2 flashbacks. Can’t forget about accessibility. Everything from part 2 pertaining to that is here as well, even included extras and renders with an improved photo mode. Not new: Most of the animations you’ll see are just the same ones from the original, just beefed up with good controls and camera work. Same with voice performances. The bad:
    Already mentioned at beginning.

I refuse to give this game a perfect score (as I don’t believe in them), but credit where it is due: the game is considered one of the best of all time for a reason and those reasons are all there, just prettier. It’s a fun game for anyone new to the series, but returning players should wait for a price drop or stream it on psplus premium if/when it’s available.

TLOU series are among my favorite of all time. This game updates the graphics of the 2013 masterpiece...to PS4 graphics. I have to say I was disappointed at times that this is the exact same game but better looking. Built from the ground up for PS5 is just a lie, cause this game has just the same graphics of TLOU2 but with worse AI. I am completely sure this game is capable of running on a PS4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is great as always, you can't expect anything other than this issue, but in my opinion, 70$ is too much, it is worth 50$, and I had two expectations: one, that more details would be worked on, and one, that the feature of the system for making space in version 2 would be added to it. And there are still a bunch of bugs, I wish they would have been fixed, otherwise they don't have any problems, this game is great as always. Expand

I guess the problem is the 70USD price and the "remake" product tag. If inserting the ps4 disc of the remastered version they would have given you like a 10USD option to upgrade into Ps5 digital version, I would have given the game a solid 10. It's too expensive for a graphic and creative upgrade that is comparable to fan made MODs and has nothing to do with a "remake".

The game structure is intact, for those who completed the game several times, we can tell everything is exactly the same. I was waiting for a new DLC story based like left behind, the story about Marlene crossing the US after getting shot, her journey to St Marys hospital, or maybe a history about Joel & Tommy surviving during the 20-year period after that night at the game's intro. But no, nothing. Not a single thing is changed. That's why this game sparked the discussion about what is a remake and what is a remaster. I'm thinking about bluepoint games and demon souls, they kept the original essence while creating a whole new game, a complete overhaul of the game structure, that's the remake for me.

I'm still giving it an 8 because I really enjoyed how the Ps5 underlines the tech to boost the storytelling and gameplay experience. There are slight changes, the way Joel expresses his pain in his facial features is amazing and is something new. The haptic feedback & the triggers were nice additions too for "feeling" the world and objects you interact with. It's hard to come to terms with the 70 USD package. I feel they took advantage of my love of this game and really profited from that. I bought the original, and then the remastered, and now a 70USD remake with no upgrade path for previous owners and no additional content. Likewise, I know nobody forced me into buying those games, I guess when you love something you are hooked on it. I love Naughty Dog.

Very well made, hugely overpriced, and falsely marketed as remake, remaster of a great game, that no-one needed. If you played it in the past, move along as there nothing worthwhile here for you. If you didn't played tLoU before buy much cheaper PS4 version or wait for big sale (like -75% at minimum).

I played the original game when it first came out. I remember really enjoying it, but recall few of the details. I played Part 2 a couple years back and while the gameplay was exceptional, they completely ruined the story. This is not a review of the price of the game because that is stupid - if it’s more expensive than what you’re willing to pay, then don’t buy it.

This is not a review of the price of the game because that is stupid - if it’s more expensive than what you’re willing to pay, then don’t buy it.

The game aged decently, but I wouldn’t say it aged well. Truthfully even in this remastered version, it still feels like you’re playing a PS3 game. Some of the mechanics, animations, fluidity, and AI feel a bit clunky. Not unplayable or hugely immersion breaking, but definitely noticeable when you can’t leave a room when your NPC companion is standing in the doorway. This would have been a far better release if they added the fluid gameplay and AI from the second game. Regardless, it doesn’t take away from the game. So essentially the only difference here are the graphics, which really do look excellent. Visually the game doesn’t stand out on top of the pack of next gen games, but it’s definitely on par where it should be. The game is all about the voice acting, the characters, and the narrative, which all hold up extremely well and still surpass most games since it’s release. With all things considered, it’s as good as I remember it. I never thought it was the best game ever, but I remember thinking it was a fantastic experience, and my sentiment remains the same.

People review bombing because they don’t want to pay full price are stupid. Is this a fantastic release - absolutely. Was this a necessary release - probably not, but let the market speak for itself with sales.

The Permadeath setting was perfect for TLOU2, so seeing the ability to challenge yourself in a new way on this particular game is enticing. Different themes also challenge you, as you see things in a different way.

The rebuilt audio coupled with a really good headset brings the experience of playing this game to a whole new level. It is a pity that the price tag is what it is, hence my rating of 7. I think it's unfair to add a range of new accessibility features for new players to experience the game then charge them so much for the privilege of it. Still the same great game but released for the third time with no significant upgrades in terms of gameplay or content. Graphically impressive but ultimately not enough to warrant a $70 dollar price tag. Advice for first timers? Buy the Remaster for PS4, it’s the exact same game and much much cheaper. Graphical fidelity is not enough at this price point.

I was hoping Naughty Dogs would add new cut-scenes, encounters, features, or enemies to spice things up, however, I quickly discovered that the next-gen version of the game was nothing but a carbon copy of the 2013 version of the game. Had this game been sold at $40 instead of $70, I would have probably given this game a higher score than a meager 7, but that, unfortunately, is not the case. With that being said, while this game continues to blend the fine line between fiction and reality, I don't want to see another "The Last Of Us Part I" until 2050. Expand

If I played it on PS3 or PS4 for the remake version, this game will definitely be 10, a no-brainer. However, if you buy it at the full price cost or a limited discount. the game doesn't worth that much. I would suggest anyone who hasn't played it just wait for a big sale or go for the original version. 70 USD is just too much for the content, especially after so many years.

Overall I was happy to run through the game again with the visual update. The price value proposition here is the main reason for the low score and if this had been in the £10-£30 range this would easily be a 8/10. While I understand it is Sony setting the price here, alongside the recently announced PS5 price hike in UK it all leads to a very poor showing from Sony since the PS5 launch and they really seem to be burning all the goodwill from the previous generation. Massive missed opportunity to earn some goodwill from the fans!

The game has received a significant visual upgrade with higher resolution textures, improved lighting, and smoother character models. The environments are more immersive, and the attention to detail is commendable. However, when comparing it to the PS4 version, the differences are not groundbreaking. Yes, it looks better, but it doesn't push the PS5's capabilities to their limits. It feels more like a polished remaster than a truly next-gen experience.

One of the main selling points of the PS5 is its fast loading times, thanks to the SSD. The Last of Us Part 1 does indeed benefit from this feature, and loading screens are significantly reduced. This improvement is appreciated, especially for those who have played the game before and now want a more streamlined experience. However, it's not a game-changing feature exclusive to the PS5 version, as other PS4 games have also seen load time improvements when played on the new console.

In terms of performance, the PS5 version offers a higher frame rate, resulting in smoother gameplay. The game runs at a consistent 60 frames per second, which does make a difference in the overall feel and responsiveness, particularly during intense combat sequences. Nevertheless, it's important to note that the PS4 version already ran at 30 frames per second, which was quite acceptable and didn't hinder the overall experience.

As for the gameplay itself, The Last of Us Part 1 remains unchanged between the PS4 and PS5 versions. The gripping narrative, emotional character development, and heart-pounding action sequences that made the game a masterpiece are preserved intact. While this is great for newcomers to the series, those who have already played it on the PS4 might feel underwhelmed with the lack of substantial new content or gameplay enhancements exclusive to the PS5 version.

Considering the minimal upgrades and the fact that the core gameplay remains the same, it's challenging to justify the $70 price tag for existing players. It almost feels like an unnecessary cash grab, preying on fans' nostalgia and desire for a next-gen experience. If you've never played The Last of Us Part 1 before and own a PS5, then this version might be worth considering. However, for those who already own the PS4 version, it might be best to wait for a price drop or invest in new gaming experiences that truly showcase the PS5's capabilities.

In conclusion, The Last of Us Part 1 for PS5 is a beautiful and enjoyable game that brings improvements in graphics and performance. However, it falls short of being a definitive next-gen experience and feels more like a repackaged version for current-gen owners. If you haven't played the game before and own a PS5, it could be a worthwhile purchase. For returning players, though, it's hard to justify the higher price, as the upgrades don't significantly enhance the overall gameplay.

The game is trying to be an action, stealth and survival horror game, and to be honest it isn’t very good at doing any of these. I’m sure at the time the cinematic style and story made this game extremely unique compared to other games, and maybe I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I played it back when it was first released. But unfortunately, I didn’t and have to judge it based on my experience today. At the end of the day it’s a game and the gameplay needs to be good. I’m surprised they didn’t update the gameplay/mechanics in the remastered version, as I really do think it’d make the game a lot more enjoyable to play. I’ll probably give Part II ago when it’s released on PC, but I won’t be excited or in a rush about it. Side note - I’m not judging the game on its performance on the PC. It ran kinda okay on my system but definitely didn’t affect my overall opinion or experience of the game.

Let's be clear, as far as stealth options are concerned, you get to chose between throwing a brick, or a bottle, that's it. There are no exciting environmental opportunities to leverage, no interesting situational obstacles to deal with, and boredom sets in as, you deal with fairly identical situations, over, and over. Think of Uncharted, with extra boring interruptions, walking sections, and with the fun action bits removed. They also got rid of the puzzles too since you now get to play with bricks and ladders.

The crafting and looting is competently handled, but there is really nothing in terms of gadgets or skill tree worth praising above and beyond the competition.

And that's my problem, in the light of all of these observations, it is difficult for me to accept the praise the game has garnered. Maybe an exceptional scenario and plot could have justified the praises, but considering how cliche and predictable the story is, it is that much more difficult to reconcile myself with its critical success.

Yes, the acting, music, presentation and production value was a cut above the competition, but as far as 2013 release games, I can think of so many games that easily outclass The last of us in terms of game and level design, pacing, mechanics, and player agency. Games such as Tomb raider, Blacklist, GTAV, not only did more, but they did it better - and if we wanted to draw a comparison with a game that more closely resembles the last of us, Spec ops: The line was the more successful of the two in realizing its story-telling ambitions.

The last of us remains a moderately enjoyable game, it does have a few saving graces in terms of scenario and game-play (like the hunting sandbox at the beginning of the winter chapter), but it is far too repetitive and limited in scope to be considered anything above the best the competition has to offer. It is also worth noting that 2 of Resident evil 4's most memorable, fun, and iconic game-play moments were "borrowed" by Naughty dog, though not as well executed as in Capcom's masterwork.

As a videogame, The last of us only truly excels at mimicking what has previously been done better on film and TV, yet does very little in terms of intelligent design, and interactive story telling

I played it straight through over a week and beat it on normal. I still don’t understand the hype. The gameplay is as clunky as I remembered. The stealth mechanics generally suck. Your enemies can shoot for days but only drop 1-3 bullets when you loot them. Arrows break every other shot. Shivs are constantly breaking because there are apparently no knives left in the world (even though Ellie has an unbreakable switchblade). Some enemies can take multiple rounds to the head. There is an over abundance of QTEs. The clicker enemies are the most annoying as they are way overused.

The writing borrows heavily from The Road, 28 Days Later, and TWD. The characters are all unlikable, especially Joel. He reminds me of Rick, and yells “Ellie!” almost as much as Rick yells “Carl!” There is almost every post apocalyptic trope known to mankind: paramilitary groups, mutants, and cannibals. Yes, cannibals in a world that is full of game and canned food.

All in all it’s an okay game, but nothing you would want to play through multiple times. If you want a truly enjoyable experience with top notch gameplay, stealth, and adrenaline fueled combat encounters try Days Gone.

If I'm just reviewing this game and I had never played the original The Last of Us, this would be fantastic. It would be game of the year. The story, the visuals, the atmosphere, the gameplay, it is all fantastic. This game would absolutely compete with Elden Ring for the GoTY title. But...

I just recently played the original The Last of Us and while the game is dated in some aspects, the truth of the matter is, it is still as good as anyone who remembers playing it for the first time. It is a masterpiece. Then I remembered, I have the Remastered version as well as a PS Plus subscriber an while I didn't really play it (maybe like an hour), it was still everything that I could want. And just to note, the remaster came out 13 months after the original release.

So it stands to question, why does this remake exist? The truth is, I don't have a good answer. Then when you add in that in reality, this remake is a bloated, expensive ($70), visually updated version of a game that you probably already have, that was also cut in half, I have even less of an answer.

The only thing I can say is this, if you haven't already played this game, go for it. I would wait for it to go on sale, but go for it. This is probably the best way to play the game and wait for part II as well. But as a person who has the original and remaster (PS Plus) already, I can't recommend it because I questioned why I even bothered renting it while i was playing it.

An overpriced unnecessary remake of a game that already received not only a remaster but a 4K update that can be played on PS4 Pro and PS5. TLOU was already overrated to begin with but anyone praising and supporting remakes like this is only doing harm to the videogame industry and encouraging developers to be lazy and uninspired.

The Last of Us is a great game, one of the best but a remaster again was a waste of time.

It is wrong to promote this as a remake. It is right to say that it is a re-remaster.
It's not cheap, but it's gotten more expensive.
I don't understand people who praise blindly...

This is just a well done remaster. Even with the facelift and haptics, however, it feels like the same old game. The original PS3 version, at the time, had mind-blowing graphics for that generation of hardware, pushing the console to the limits of what’s possible, but this PS5 version is nowhere near that level of experience. It just looks more like a crossgen type of game- like Part II. I was hoping I wouldn’t remember a lot of the story and areas, but I found myself remembering exactly when/where a workbench would appear, and knowing exactly what would happen next. If you’ve never played the game, it’s 100% with zero doubts worth it, but for anyone who’s been there, done that, it’s a total rip off. Especially with no multiplayer! Sometimes a movie that you’ve seen 1000x times in 1080p, even if it’s really good, still ends up boring you in 4k. Because you’ve seen this one too many times already. Expand

Cash grab!! Only worth it if you’ve never played either of the previous releases.

An undoubtedly good game but not worth full price, you can get by just fine with the 2014 remaster

A reskin of an old game that’s already remastered is not deserving of a good review. It’s replayablity is subjective but definitely not worth my time.

Reason for this score is purely based on the price. It's kind of disrespect for the fans to release at such high price and since the only upgrade was graphical. Developers are not their fault but Sony is.

This is one of the greats as far as Sony IPs, but the $70 price tag on a game that has minimal improvements and dated gameplay mechanics makes this a hard pill to swallow. I'm not so petty as to give this a 0 as some here have, but this is overpriced and incomplete.

LoU is one of my favorite games.
First time I picked it up years ago on PS3 with Left Behind DLC. It was one of the system sellers back in the day, no other platform could offer anything like that.

Now they have another remaster for PS5, for a full price. Unfortunately, this time it is a cash grab. It somehow looks the same or worse than a PS4 remaster, especially when it comes to the redesigned cast. I don't know why it exists when you can play a great remaster via backward compatibility for 10 dollars, not 70.

This should have been a day 1 PS Extra tier release. I made the switch to Sony after being an Xbox kid for the past 21 years....really starting to wonder what all the buzz was about...at least they finally perfected the Dualshock controller.

Playstation perdeu uma excelente oportunidade de expandir o jogo em áreas abertas e com mais capítulos de histórias de outros personagens na visão de Joel. O preço do jogo não justifica o Remake

Graphically excellent, but nothing more, it's a shame they missed the opportunity to add mechanics from The last of us 2, the same as 10 years ago but at 70 dollars.

First off, this is not a remake, is a remaster, and a remaster of a remaster at that...and they had the nerve to charge $70 for it!
    Now, to make it simple:
If you never played any of the previous versions: buy it. If you only played the PS3 version: maybe buy it on a sale. If you played the PS4 version: dont buy it. And the score is for this re-remaster, not for the game itself,

Way to short playtime, graphics and gameplay is meh and way to expensive for this kinda work.

I had recently picked this up to see what the big deal was. This game wasn't all that people were saying it was. It wasn't a waste of $70, but I feel like a $60 price tag would've been fine. As much as we love the skeleton, the way it’s been built upon here feels like a missed opportunity. The chance to incorporate Part II’s stellar gameplay evolutions into the original heart-wrenching story was there; had Naughty Dog taken it, it could have been a game-changer. Instead, this feels like an obligatory reshoot. Yes, it’s visually stunning (one of PS5’s best), and yes, things have been changed. But the end result? Too familiar. Neat extras are here, like a speedrun mode, behind the scenes videos, and commentary tracks – but we’d hoped for something bolder. [Issue#19, p.74]

The original The Last of Us will always be my favourite PlayStation game. The narrative is amazing, the relationship between Joel and Ellie is wholesome and it all culminates into a satisfying story that will bring tears to your eyes. However, I do not recommend the remake. Even though there are extensive graphical enhancements, 60FPS support, DualSense support and a variety of accessibility options, none of this justifies the admission price. And, above all, there was really no need for this remake, the original is perfect as it is and available on PS Plus. Skip it and wait for a fat discount if you are keen to try it.
