We can definitely debate about the price, 80 bucks isn't cheap, but compared to other remasters or games who claim to be a remaster (yes im looking to you Rockstar) is this is a enormous achievement. This is a game worth playing, a game which is a significant upgrade compared to the original and so exactly what aSimply a masterpiece just like it had already been on the PS3 and PS4.     I loved it. Great graphics same story. If you haven't played it on any platform this is the best way to play it. If you have played it before and don't love it the way I do then this is miss for you.

    Unlike many other developers, Naughty Dog at least doesn't make a low effort remaster and call it a day. The graphics and motion capture have been fully revamped, all the little details in this game now pop thanks to the major glow-up ND made for this masterpiece of a game. I highly recommend if you have never player it before.     Well what to say... its is a great game, but terrible price in case you already played it.
    So if you never played the game, just go and get it. It is worth it.
    If you played it, then you know exactly what you are getting, so you dont need my review.
    For this reason Im giving higher score. It is scored as a "new game" for people who never played it. For other it is irelevant.

    Much improved game than original (graphisc, audio, A.I, gameplay). It is a REMAKE, pure an simple. Those who didn't watch Digital Foundry tech analysis, should do it. Can't wait for HBO series. To bad that Metacritic staff doesn't remove bad scores from Xbox fans. Vast majority of bad score are coming from Xbox fans. Idiots!

What fascinates me the most about this game is the immersion felt more enhanced in the remake than the original because of the new features that Naughty Dog implemented in part 1 that made my walkthrough very engaging in which I did not expect. Special modes like speedrun and the returning permadeath mode are a huge plus that makes Part I so much worth it and so are the additional goodies. For those that wanting to get back into multiplayer, don’t bother because it is not there since Naughty Dog is currently hard at work on crafting factions multiplayer for 2023. And now the hot topic, a lot of people are review-bombing The Last of Us Part I because of the hefty $75+ price tag that everyone is rambling about and to be honest, this game should only be worth at least $50-60 and I found it quite baffling despite this is a decade year old game remade for PS5 without multiplayer. As questionable the price tag can be for the remake, The Last of Us Part I succeeds on bringing back the soul we all know and love and there is no doubt that this game looks even more gorgeous on PS5 than it was on PS3 a decade ago as the series holds a special place in my heart.… Expand

    As far as remakes go's, this is one of the best ones in years. Not gonne lie, the price is high and not on par with what it should have been ( 40-50 ish ). None the less, the game is stil amazing and deserving of this great remake.

The ending was jarring to me, I had mixed feelings, and my thoughts on the characters were questionable at best. The lighting, the scenery, the characters and even the enemies all had a new life brought into them which made the experience feel more cinematic and even better. I got to really spend time focusing on what made the journey unique and great and not only wondering what would happen next, and it pushed the experience up for me even more as a result. Now I can say with full confidence that while The Last of Us may not be perfect, it is amazing. Part 1 is without a doubt the definitive version of this game and a must play for both existing fans and certainly anyone who hasn’t gone on this journey before, as I believe it’s an experience every gamer should have.… Expand

    The gameplay is brutal and the story more compelling than ever due to better movements and facial expressions. Although Joel is more cluncky than Ellie in part 2, it could certainly have been possible for Joel to dodge the clickers by means of the dodge mechanics (understandable less fluid but still). In the heavy battles this is really something he misses.

    The AI ​​on the other hand does feel like a breath of fresh air. Enemies feel smarter and actually try to box you in based on your last known position.

    At the end, the Last of Us part 1 is a real treat for the fans and is still a 10/10 masterpiece. Approaching it as a remake, it is almost perfect with a couple of flaws in the dated movement of the main character. It is worth your money, but not for full price.

Visually the game is stunning, looks better than Part II and this time it lets you choose between fidelity or performance mode.

    Now let's adress the elephant in the room, the gameplay. This is a remake releasing in 2022 that plays worse than the last game they released in 2020. I can understand certain mechanics from Part II not being used in Part I like prone, because they would need to redesign the most of the encounters in the game. But jumping and dodging should have been there, they made the gameplay more dynamic and responsive. They have used their new animation tech so the movement of the character itself does feel much much better. It plays great, but the lack of a couple of mechanics makes it feel like a step back in this aspect of the game.

    Was this remake necessary? Definetly not, but it exists for a reason. Naughty Dog didn't start the development of this game, it was de Visual Arts Group, a support team from PlayStation Studios that wanted to start developing games by themselves. They tried with the first Uncharted but they were unexperienced and it would require a lot of redesign to make it feel like a game released today. They ended up remaking TLOU, but when Hermen Hulst took over PS Studios he thought that the Visual Arts team were investing too many resources, and the development was shifted to Naughty Dog. The only reason why the remake wasn't cancelled and was handed to ND was because there's a TV show coming out soon that will create a new fanbase, and many of those will prefer to buy the new remake instead of the 2013/14 versions. There's also Sony's new PC approach, and now they can port this game too instead of only porting Part II directly like they are going to do with Uncharted 4.

    This game is still a masterpiece, a perfect game, but as a remake it lets you feeling like the devs could have taken a more intrusive approach and make a game on par with The Last of Us Part II.    … Expand

    That being said, I think everyone should tak a few things into consideration before you buy this game.
    If you: - Can spare the money - If you have a PS5 (obviously) - If you don't have the remastered version    First things first, I'd give the game an 8,5/10 with a small points deduction for the price, but overall it's still a fanastic game and it looks better than ever in my opinion.

The fact that the original was developed with such attention and care and all of that has been faithfully bought over to the remake is what makes it worth it to experience it all over again. Granted, there are some niggling issues like low resolution textures in some places and the lack of stealth-based gameplay enhancements, but The Last of Us Part 1 still remains an experience like none other. The better graphics, animations, and improved AI make the trip through this brutal post-apocalyptic world worth it again.    … Expand

    TLOU Part 1 is still an excellent 10/10 that now looks and plays better thanks to smart gameplay tweaks and enhanced PS5 graphics. The reason I’m rating this a 9/10 is because of the lack of multiplayer and the relatively high cost for a remake of $70.

This game is still a 10 BUT – what I was hoping and everyone else as well I think, why the heck is the movement not like in part 2 ? I want to fight the Stalkers like I can with Abby in part 2, now I need to run away as I cannot dodge…too bad….this gives a minus here, the gameplay could have been implemented easily. But with all the other parts…graphic, sound, STORY, legacy status…I pay full price here, no question. When I check the trophies it looks like there is not trophy for permadeath grounded mode…this is a bit weird, as when you made it through in this mode you lived that characters in this world and should be awarded.     After finishing The Last of Us Part 1 and completing it in its entirety, I can now say that it is one of my favorite games of all time. Everything from the characters to the enemies and the combat was done flawlessly; I can even imagine this being the best way to play The Last of Us Part 1 if you have never played it before.     I played this game before but as a huge fan of The Last Of Us franchise I simply HAD to get the PS5 version. It did not disappoint! Graphics and gameplay have improved massively, better than TLOU II even, graphics wise. Yes the story is exactly the same, although there is a free DLC as well. Anyone who somehow hasn’t played the game definitely should check this out, and for the rest - it’sI played this game before but as a huge fan of The Last Of Us franchise I simply HAD to get the PS5 version.     I originally only finished it way back on PS3. After getting half way through the show my wife wanted to see the game, so picked the remake up from the library and she started watching me play through it. But she got bored during all the combat parts especially if I was doing it as stealth. So put it all the way down to easiest to speed it up.     As remakes go, this is quite possibly the best it gets. Easily one of the best looking games of the last decade, paired with one of the greatest fictional stories told within a digital medium. The Last of Us is still fantastic!

    I know it’s easy to say this game didn’t need a $70 remake and while I’m 50/50 on that topic, I’m in the minority on playing the original Part 1 AFTER Part 2, so a lot of the improvements of Part 2 were missing from Part 1, which harmed my initial experience with the Last of Us (more on that later). I’m glad to say it’s a complete upgrade in nearly every single way compared to the original! Losing the multiplayer is a downside yes, but it’s not like I ever played Factions or planned to anyway.. The only 2 issues I can think of is yes, this game shouldn’t have been $70, I would’ve been much more comfortable paying $50. The biggest issue I had with this remake is that it didn’t incorporate any of the combat improvements from Part 2, still no dodge button! Sigh, missed opportunities. The rest of the package was incredible tho, the graphical improvements are AMAZING. It’s up there with the Horizon games visually. I really love the DualSense haptics too, I can’t go back to any other kind of controller tbh. The story is still immaculate as always, the new facial expressions really did make more of the emotional moments hit harder than in the original game. Overall I really enjoyed the experience, Naughty Dog successfully made the gameplay experience feel modern and new, and I’m very much looking forward to Part 3 in 2037!… Expand

    It's The Last Of Us 1 alright, it's a very good remake, 1-1 on pretty much everything and they didn't change anything that would take away from the game's original identity, in fact, it enhances it.

    However, since this was built from the ground up, it could have used TLOU2 mechanics.

As per usual(and expected) Metacritic is abused once again as an outlet for the disgruntled who think anything they dislike is automatically objectively bad. I have seen dozens upon dozens of "bad reviews", literal 0's from people who state that they have not played the game, just complaining about the price, and even a random review from someone complaining that the PC version isn't out yet(how the hell does this warrant a 0!). This remake was controversial to say the least and I expected nothing less considering TLOU tends to have a fanbase that on one end is rational and appreciate the depth and effort put into the series, and on the other end a ton of manchildren who think any little thing they do not like warrants a 0.

    This remake is a 9/10 for me, the visuals are among the best I've seen on the PS5 thus far and indisputably better than the original by a significant margin, the environment design is flat-out insane and makes exploring, combat and other activities much more immersive when the places you traverse actually have interior and exterior character. The lighting, shadows, reflections, foliage, vfx, etc. all help to make scenes vastly more dramatic and realistic. I was constantly jaw-dropped at how good many of the scenes looked, and to think that this was all gameplay too. The cutscenes are no longer pre-rendered like the original, they're fully rendered in real time and my god do they look insanely good. The facial animations, body animations, character models combined with the visuals through the components I mentioned before make cutscenes incredibly more emotional and vivid. There are scenes where the performances of the original did not get through whatsoever that are restored in the remake, a big one I can think of is the introduction, where the scenes like Tommy blocking the door to buy time for Joel and Sarah, or Joel holding his dying daughter are already well-done performances even further improved by the facial animations of the remake that the original simply is no competition for. You can see Tommy's fear in that introduction, whereas he looked dull and emotionless in the original. What helps this all as well is the amazing sound design carried over from TLOU2, Naughty Dog really does have some of the best sound engineering in the industry and the world's sounds just play out realistically in all of the environments you come across, whether it be inside of a tunnel or in an empty alleyway. Take all the emotions you had in the original and amplify them, that's what the remake does.

    The post-game features are great. Things like added achievements that were not in the original, speedrun mode, commentary, visual filters, game effects, custom skins for Joel and Ellie, getting to replay it with all your weapons, etc. make the game extremely enjoyable beyond just 1 playthrough.

    Why not a 10/10? Mainly because of the gameplay. Do not get me wrong, this gameplay is great. It actually mirrors a ton of the smooth gameplay we saw in TLOU2 in everything from the much-better AI, gunplay. updated infected like the way more terrifying new clickers and stalkers, gore, the physics that react to you shooting, throwing bombs, etc. and the overall fluid motion of it all. Things like the updated UI and workbench keep things clean and manageable. What I found to be kind of a bummer is the lack of dodge and prone. I get why Naughty Dog didn't implement them, as to stay true to the original(no, it's not laziness. After everything I've seen in this remake, lazy is the last word I'd characterize any of it with), but it would have made the gameplay much more exciting and intense. A big part of why they didn't include it was because the environments of the original did not suit these features, but since they visibly seem to have rebuild these environments, I don't really see why they couldn't have made minor modifications to the environments to implement these features. I also noticed the lack of small details that made me love TLOU2 like the enemies calling out each other's names, and while the callouts in this game corresponding with actions does work much more smoothly than the original, names would have been a great feature to include.

    Overall, this is a 9/10 for me and is by far the best way to experience this game. This is the best way to experience the series as a matter of fact because the game is designed for a smooth transition into TLOU2 thanks to the updated character models and small story details, as well as the UI and general gameplay. TLOU2 will essentially be the same gameplay but with added features instead of remapped or removed ones. I understand why most people do not want to pay $70 for this. For $70, players like me who have not played in many years or new players should honestly pick it up. When this goes on sale though eventually for like $30-40, I suggest most players to get this, absolutely worth it if that's the price for the majority of players.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part 1 is an absolutely phenomenal remake with love, care and meticulous attention to detail for the original experience oozing out of every crevice, everything from the characters to the environments have been completely rebuilt to take full advantage of the PlayStation 5 and the result is an absolutely stunning game with jaw-dropping visuals, brutal yet satisfying audio, tense and emotional music and a wide array of gut-wrenching moments; Naughty Dog has honestly outdone themselves and brought the classic story of Joel and Ellie closer to life than ever before.

    This is a must-play for anyone who has yet to experience The Last of Us and should almost definitely be played back-to-back with The Last of Us Part 2, however… for the people who have already experienced the game there is one major elephant in the room I’d like to address, the price; $70 for a remake which doesn’t include the Factions Multiplayer and very minimal changes to gameplay is a very, VERY, tough pill to swallow.     The Fidelity mode, while gorgeous, does unfortunately still run roughly around 40FPS. For gameplay, I mostly played with Performance mode for the silky-smooth 60FPS at a minimal hit to graphic quality.

    There are a few small gripes with checkpoints, that I don't remember if the original had. One of the things I ran into, was that if you chose to restart a checkpoint manually, or died, you would respawn without the items you used before you died. I'm not sure if this was an intentional feature, but it did cause some headaches with certain encounters. Another was certain checkpoints during certain encounters, would put you in less than ideal positions, that often meant needing to make split-second responses, or it would likely end in a swift death.

    Overall, I'm not mad at the price point. I would have preferred it to be $10 or $20 cheaper, but I feel I got my money's worth. A faithful recreation of the original, and a must-play title in the Playstation catalogue.    … Expand

I just got a PS5 and I initially started to play the free (older) remastered version, but it was clear that the old graphics weren't going to do the emotional performances justice.     Only down sides for me were the fact that the infected felt like an afterthought. But fortunately there weren't too many huge encounters so I didn't feel like I was pulled away form the story too long.

    Last of Us Part I is so so good man, they improved a-lot of things from the PS4 and PS3 version. The game looks incredible and I am very happy to play this masterpiece with amazing visuals man. However this game should be cheaper and it is definitely not worth $70 but if it is on sale I highly recommend getting. I’m very glad this wasn’t like GTA Trilogy and how buggy it was.

    Is the same experience from the original game in 2013, but better in all aspects. Sound design with the Dualsense is gonna give you a really good sensation while playing.
    Honestly, if you played the original before, wait for a sale, because Sony decided to charge a 2013 game at full price for some reason XD.

    Great story great game. Had not played it since it realeaed the first time until now on the PS5 with an OLED tv I'm a graphics and story person. Single player games are my main thing. Did not disappoint. Left behind also, in the photo booth and arcade we're tremendous. The only thing stopping it from a 10 was the lack of multiplayer from the original release.

The Last of Us Part 1 is an incredible and faithful remake, its the story we know and love, rebuilt for the Ps5, for a more immersive and memorable perspective and experience. The story is the same but the cutscenes make it feel like you're playing it for the first time again, you will fall in love with Joel and Ellie like you did back in 2013. Gameplay is kickass, with so much replayability in the form of graphic and gameplay modifiers. They added a speedrun and permadeath mode for the passionate fans and I love it so much. They innovated playstation titles with the first ever narrator mode, where the story in cutscenes is read to you like a book, super cool stuff that they didn't need to add but did anyway because they love their fans so much. However, I am dissapointed we didn't get prone, dodge, or craftable silencers from Part 2, those could've changed the gameplay for the better a whole lot more. No multi-player is in this game, but that's okay to me and most fans because we were here for the story, and story only, and ofc... the standalone multi-player game comes out next year, and it makes sense that they didn't go through with remaking a whole multi-player mode and make whole new servers when a game for that comes out next year. The Last of us Part 1, is one of the greatest passion projects I've ever played, it's the most repayable last of us game, and most immersive, although it's $70, it's worth the money if you care alot about this game, and it's story and characters. It's by no means a cash grab, because it's exclusive to a console alot of people don't have still, and all the passion and new additions added, to again, make this feel like it's own experience. The Last Of Us Part 1, although not perfect, and has a big price tag, is definitely worth the money if you're passionate for the series, you'll get your moneys worth, and fall in love with this game again!     A historia eh muito boa e te motiva a continuar jogando. A gameplay nao eh ruim, alias eh bem criativa, porque te deixa tanto adotar o estilo stealthy ou rambo, apesar de sempre te levar para os mesmos caminhos. Os personagens te cativam pelos dialogos, que sao bons e fogem do cliche.

    masterpiece. easily in my top 3 games ever. really 10/10. dropped it a point cause they did joel dirty on this cover. hiding him away in ellie shadow making him look small/secondary.     I understand that $70 is alot for a game that came out 10+ years ago but the rating shouldn’t be based on that. The gameplay, graphics and mechanics that got implemented from The last of us part 2 just make this game so much better and its always good to go back and play a better version of a masterpiece

    Nice Remaster. A real rediscovery. The immersion of the TLOU II graphics engine makes the experience even more enriched. I would so love a collector's version of The Last of Us. Maybe one day ?

    Technically this PS5 version is a great addition, although the console is still not powerful enough to run the game at native 4K60, full price is unacceptable, however Sony knows that there's no competition at this point for such quality narrative AAA experience.

    This might just be the greatest game I've ever played. I've decided that since I have a ps5, I need to start playing all these games I didn't play as a kid when they were originally released. One of these games was the Last of Us. Since the release of the TV Show I wanted to play the original game before watching it. So much better than I've seen from other games this year like God of War and Hogwarts Legacy (But I am aware these games are all very different from each other in their production). I haven't played the second game but I absolutely want to now. I really just bought the game to see what the hype was about. But after being annoyed by the 50 dollar price, I realized that with the one that I bought, I got the Left Behind DLC with it, making the price range a bit more worth it. But even with that large price. The thing that really sold the game was the story and game play. I won't go too deep into the story because I don't wanna spoil it. But if you're looking for a game with good story, buy the game. If you're looking for a long-ish game with a lot of fun content in it, buy the game.… Expand

The last of us has a lot of side quest for exsapel there is one quest where you have to jump throw a building, kill five herds of zombies,find all the artifacts in the game.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I absolutely love this game. Definitely one of my favourite games. Everything about it , the story , the weapons. I don’t want to give it a 9 but it just feels like the whole game was remade just because of the last segment where Joel kills Abby’s father. It portrays Dr.Anderson as a really important character when he really wasn’t (in the original).And he was definitely pretty stupid , pointing a scalpel at a heavily armed man , what did he expect? Also, why did Joel have to lie to Ellie like that? Saying there’s dozens of immune people , he could’ve just said that she is infected with some other kind of fungus and can’t get infected by the fungus that infects everybody out there or something like that.And what happened to the multiplayer?… Expand

    The story is impressive and immersive, the gameplay is realistic and the gameplay mechanics are well thought through and are thorough. The game is very beautiful and has to be one of the most beautiful games I've played.

    Solid remake. Would have easily been a 9 if they included a remake facctions. Would have been a 10 if I can delete playing this game a couple of times already from my memory.

    I own the ps3 version, the PS4-remaster and now also the PS5 remake/master. I love this game. It is better, but I understand that some people feel a little cheated paying full price for something almost 10 years old and already remastered once. However, it is a great game and it is better, clearly better than the remaster. I am playing it right now, and I am enjoying the ride for the XXX time :)

    I also prefer the story in part 2, you may need to be mentally strong to handle it but the story has so much more depth in part 2. I tried to play the reMASTER (caps for clarity, not yelling) after and couldn’t get into it because it was just such a significant step down in gameplay and visuals. I just picked up the reMAKE TLOU1 on sale and it’s excellent. It feels next gen and isI’m confused by all the hate this is getting. Portanto The Last of Us Part I é um jogo menor que seu original.     Played the remaster on PS4. Don't think I'll buy this version unless it's >90% discount. Still a good game although didn't justify remaking it 2 times.

    Ok… as the last remastered: there is no need for this if we had real retro compatibility. For me is an 8 because the original was a 10 masterpiece, and remastered was a 9 for the same reason. This is unnecessary. Overall still a masterpiece

    As much as we love the skeleton, the way it’s been built upon here feels like a missed opportunity. The chance to incorporate Part II’s stellar gameplay evolutions into the original heart-wrenching story was there; had Naughty Dog taken it, it could have been a game-changer. Instead, this feels like an obligatory reshoot. Yes, it’s visually stunning (one of PS5’s best), and yes, things have been changed. But the end result? Too familiar. Neat extras are here, like a speedrun mode, behind the scenes videos, and commentary tracks – but we’d hoped for something bolder. [Issue#19, p.74]

    The original The Last of Us will always be my favourite PlayStation game. The narrative is amazing, the relationship between Joel and Ellie is wholesome and it all culminates into a satisfying story that will bring tears to your eyes. However, I do not recommend the remake. Even though there are extensive graphical enhancements, 60FPS support, DualSense support and a variety of accessibility options, none of this justifies the admission price. And, above all, there was really no need for this remake, the original is perfect as it is and available on PS Plus. Skip it and wait for a fat discount if you are keen to try it.
