Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is now my favorite Star Wars game since Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. There are so many things that this game does just right that you could argue that this game is the best Star Wars game to date. An example that I’ll use is Jedi: Survivor’s excellent combat system and the number of directions you could go with it. You’re given 5 different stances that you can use in combat which consist of single, double-sided, duel wield, blaster, and crossguard. Each one is meant to help you feel like a Jedi Master, as you traverse through each planet. Speaking of which, each planet is filled with so much content that you can practically get lost exploring for hours. I once spent 10 hours just exploring and leveling up my Cal Kestis so much that I also had a huge wardrobe of cosmetics for him after. Even when I thought I explored every corner of the map, there was always a bigger mystery I had not discovered.
The cast of characters in Jedi Survivor is written so well that it can be hard to choose a favorite. Of course, we play as Cal Kestis, our main protagonist from the last game, however, he’s not the only returning character. Characters like Cere, Greez, and Merrin return, and lots has changed since the last time we’ve seen them in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. We do get new characters like Bode Akuna and Dagan Gera who both play a huge role in Jedi: Survivor’s plot. I won’t be discussing it for spoiler reasons but this story is a huge step up from the last game that it raises the bar for where Cal might go in his inevitable third game. With the addition of the many different stances and new game plus, you could get multiple playthroughs with this game, almost justifying the 70-dollar price tag. One big complaint I have with this game is how badly it runs on console, with constant problems dealing with low frame rate, pop-in issues, and textures not loading. I had my game crash 4 different times, one particular one right after a boss fight that ruined any tension the scene had. Even after all the patches it still ran bad and sometimes even worse than before. Hopefully, this gets patched so that future players can experience this amazing story with no bugs.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a perfect example of cinematic translation from movie to game. With an amazing soundtrack, action set pieces, and writing that it makes other Star Wars media look lower tier. With its amazing lightsaber combat system that allows you to be your own Jedi that you always dreamed of being, this game gives what any Star Wars fan would want. While the technical issues can be bad, the game itself does a great job of allowing you to overlook the issues and continue playing. In the end, I give Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a 9/10 score.

Game crashes gala. I can't change stances anymore after fighting a big fat enemy in Jedha, as of my last gameplay. Story cliché and predictable. Mandatory Darth Vader fan service. Combat controls really stiff and no input cancelling. Fighting against hordes of enemies too frustrating because of the constant stun locks and hit staggers from multiple enemies simultaneously. Typical trappings of Ubisoft style open world collectathon, map defogging and icon clearing.

I really miss the days when games used to actually be fun. This game is nothing but frustration. Especially the traversal puzzles in the Force Tears. The devs themselves came out and confirmed that the stupid red scavenger droids that burrow and get away every single time were made on purpose to be frustrating and trolling you. Here is one big middle finger to that!

Not surprised one bit, given it came right out of EA's cesspit. That'll be 70 bucks please.

I'm playing on PS5, it's really fun. Haven't notice a lot of the problems people have mentioned here. It is a big download even from disk, and it resets you back to the main menu when there's an update when you come back from standby which is annoying.

The game should have been delayed. It’s unfinished and it’s inexcusable that it’s been released in the state it’s in. Game journalists putting out fluff pieces saying things along the lines of “the developers are working tirelessly to fix the game” are really pissing me off, acting like they’re doing this big noble thing for the consumer by doing so when it should have just been finished by purchase day. To make things worse, one of those articles suggested I turn off HDR so it would improve performance. Turn off HDR on my £60 game I’m playing on my £500 PS5. That’s the level we’re at with this now. All of this while what they should actually be doing is holding the company behind it accountable, but of course they won’t want to piss off the wrong people now, do they?

Anyone that has bought this game has bought a broken product and defending it is just enabling big companies like EA to keep doing **** like this to the consumer. I’ve literally seen reviews on here giving it a score of 8-10 even acknowledging the performance issues but accepting it because the name Star Wars is slapped onto it.

To be critical, I’ll give it a 2 in its current state. Combat, gameplay and story are mostly fine even if slightly generic, but it loses 8 because of it being a total mess on launch and I feel cheated into buying a game with that much money behind it when it’s not finished.

Also please remember, that a big company like EA does not need you to white knight for them. A brand like Star Wars does not need you to white knight for them. They’ll do just fine on their own. They don’t care about you, just your money and the more we keep giving it to them and defending them for stuff like this, the less they are ever likely to change.

This is a step up from the original in terms of gameplay alone. The narrative also happens to be a lot more interesting. The big downside to this game is obviously the glaring performance issues. I can overlook them quite a bit but other than that I think the side quests are pretty boring and the worlds feel empty. The game however is really fun.

As a sequel Survivor succeeds in improving on everything Fallen Order did and then some. As a game release, survivor fails hard. My god if they cooked this for some more time and released it finished this would be an easy nine with a potential for a ten for me.

When it comes to the main bulk of the game, Survivor is packed with content and fun side activities. Outside of the main story, the game is a collectathon where you are encouraged to find all of the various outfits and lightsabers you can, to fuel the newly added customization.

A fantastic feature by the way, supported by the fact that all cutscenes are not pre-rendered which means your customization actually affects how Cal looks throughout the story.

So what about the story? Bigger, grander and a lot more ambitious. After the first game the characters ended in very appropriate places and are now encouraged to find their actual place in the galaxy. Filled with fun and epic moments, Survivor delivers on character development and adds in some obvious twists that hide some of the less obvious ones. All this accompanied by a stellar OST that makes this game a thrillride.

Side activities are way more fun as the Bounty and Rumor systems lead to organic exploration while Holotactics is just a fun way to unwind. Exploration is made a lot more fun with such additions as a grappling hook and an air dash.

So how about the massive elephant in the room? The botched release leaves the game feeling unfinished. Full transparency, played on a PS5, Quality Mode week after a release. Started the game on the third patch and ended it on the fourth.

From all I have seen and heard, I thought my time would be much worse than it actually was. During my fifty hours with the game, I have experienced three crashes, one within three minutes of starting a new game.

Quality mode means locked to 30fps. Grew up with a bad PC so 30fps was a luxury to me so that does not bother me, though I believe the complaint of paying 70$ for a new-gen game and getting only 30 is valid.

I mean you can attempt 60 with the Performance mode but I would not recommend that. Even locked to 30 the game tanked way below that on Koboh, mainly in areas like Riverbed Watch and Untamed Downs. That on PS5 is straight garbage.

So, Survivor eh? One of the best sequels that almost did not survive its release. I want to stress that I genuinely had a good time with the game while not invalidating the issues other people had. Though I can only rate my own experience. For me, just like the first game, this is a fantastic product held back by some of the most avoidable failures. What a shame.

Edit: let's put it this way, when it gets to the point where I can't tell if I'm just dumb, and not able to solve the puzzle or if I'm dealing with a bug, that's where I draw the line. When prompts don't trigger when they should or if you're constantly trying to determine if you're In a bug or not, no dude... Not for $70. Again, there's got to be a way to just class action publishers for this. There's nothing like furting the bottom line that wakes investors up.

For a little flavor, the game is a little bit god of war, titanfall 2, and horizon...I actually like the game TBH, which is why I'm updating this a second time, but still...that doesn't excuse the poor runtime experience. As I said before, I keep ending up in situation(environmental puzzles) where I cant tell if its a bug or a feature.

I'm not sure what happened with this game. The first episode had good writing, beautiful and versatile environments, enjoyable combat and platform sequences and the Star Wars feeling. Now all of these are lost.

The story feels like a very bad predictable fanfiction with dialogues that feel insulting and are on this level: "You are bad" "Yes I am bad" "Why aren't you good?" "Maybe you are right. I should be good. NO. HAHA. I am bad" *lightsaber clash

The characters are stereotypical, uninteresting, and even Cal became a dreamy robot.

The environments are lacklustre, everything feels like an empty desert. There is empty Coruscant, empty random planet I cannot even remember the name of, the broken moon which in reality is just an uninteresting space base and Jedah, which is a desert. What happened??? We had Kashyyyk, Zeffo, Bracca, all beautiful unique environments...

The platform elements are boring. Jump on wall, run on wall, use a rope. We had these already in the previous episode and in every action platformer game in the past 20 years.

The combat is unbalanced. There are mini bosses that are waaaaay harder than almost any of the big bosses. Which are mostly hit and dodge too, anyways. The stances could be a nice refreshment, but why can I slot only 2 at the same time? Why is there a 2 handed stance where the lightsaber feels like a broadsword? The blade of the lightsaber does not have weight and the weight of the hilt does not change based on how it's held. Illogical ****

And the customization. Ahh. I can change the color and appearance of the lightsaber, Cal, BD who is not even visible most of the time and can have an aquarium and a garden. This feels more than insulting. Why can't we customize the Mantis, intertior, exterior? Customize the interior of the pub... Build a small settlement... Or do anything that feels remotely interesting and meaningful.

Last but not least, the technical part: I had some crashes, a lot of texture popups, slowdowns, etc which probably will be better in a couple of weeks. But the animations are horrible, the characters and mounts seem/feel like ice skating on the ground.
And the game does not seem like a PS5 game. Horizon which was released last year has jaw-dropping environments, animations, lighting, character animations. Compared to that, SWJ:S feels like at least previous generation.

Overall, the whole thing feels like a very bad fan mod or a 5 dollar unofficial DLC.

Only two real planets to explore (and 4 very small and linear ones) none of them are really interesting besides the two main ones...

Level design is very strange as it feels like the different areas are connected by stuff kinda floating in the air that doesn't really make a lot of sense if you think about it... kills the immersion a bit.

Beside that, gameplay feels pretty good (when the game runs properly) the new stances are fun, the crossguard is pretty badass i have to admit (even if i'm not a fan of the sequels)

There is a lot of customisation, and a lot of items to force you to explore, sometimes it's a bit much, if you're a completionist.

Anyway, even without performance issues, i think Jedi Survivor is not bad, but not a great game either, without i'ts star wars skin it would have been pretty a average game, i played it for the gameplay and the jedi fantasy, but the rest was kinda underwhelming to me.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a much bigger game than before, with plenty of new moves, collectibles and characters to discover. The size of its open-world maps means it also lacks some of the variety of its predecessor, but there is so much to see and do that you'll likely not care one jot. Perhaps the most impressive aspect is how well fleshed-out the adventure is - better even than many of the TV series and films on which it is based. This is a blockbuster in the truest sense.
