    It's a game I wanted to like, but the performance is a joke and the story isn't as good as the original, newly introduced characters with a twist aren't as interesting as built-up ones, this series seems like it'll be one-off slightly connected stories

The game feels empty, with large sections of mindless parkour followed by more mindless sections, but this times filled with a ton of enemies the size of your foot, but somehow do half your health bar with one hit on normal mode. And the parkour is extremely bad, as well as the puzzles. The puzzles are stupid, either because they are somewhere they shouldn't be, or because they make no sense. And the parkour is either mind numbingly boring, or its extremely hard to do because finding the path is like finding Waldo. If you aren't 2 inches from your screen, it can be easy to overlook slightly differently shaped pieces of rock, meaning you can be stuck on one jump for minutes because the game designers don't know how to distinguish between background textures and important-pieces-to-the-puzzle textures. And for some reason, you can lose hours of progress at once for no reason, and the game will just spawn you in at a random meditation point you visited. Afterwards, the ride-able creatures will float in the air, or rubber-band around when you are riding them. This game came out almost half a year ago, and yet t major bugs like this are still in the game. It is a waste of money to buy, because they clearly don't care about making an actually engaging and enjoyable story and world. They just want your money. But hey, pay them like 20 extra bucks, and you can get a few free skins and colors you can use if you want, even though they don't look much different than the other skins you can unlock. I haven't really noticed the performance issues the others are dealing with, but it does sometimes get really bad for no reason, just not enough to be an issue for me.… Expand

    August 2023 and despite the patches, this is still the buggiest game I've ever played ss it crashes all the time which is really annoying. The game is OK but if I'd known it would perform this poorly I would never have paid for it. A real let down.

    Sadly unplayable, even now months later no performance improvements, constant stuttering, tearing and cant maintain even 30fps on either quality or performance mode. I loved fallen order and from what I've heard the game itself here is an improvement in most ways, its a shame I cant get there because its the most poorly optimised game I've ever played.

    For me this Game is still unplayable.
    It has many Bugs, Framerate issues and a very Bad Resolution under 720p.. I hope a big Patch comes in near Future .

    The biggest crime of this game isn't the performance. It's the fact that it's so ball-achingly boring. I'm about 15 hours in and losing the will to live. If you love exploring bloated open worlds, falling off things due to pedantic controls, and engaging in shallow combat, then you will adore this game.

The day came to play my most anticipated game of 2023 and didn't understand what was happening as my eyes feasted on a low/choppy frame rate, awful mechanical and glitchy game.Unbelievable! If there's another Starwars game, even WITH Cal, I'm going to hold my money until after the release so that I'm not screwed out of an experience like this.     Overhyped buggy disaster. Even on graphics mode the game is beyond blurry and looks like an early ps4 game. Not to mention the unresponsive controls and the uninspired combat. Save your money and wait for a sale. Most i’d recommend paying for this currently is $15.

    Very buggy, ranging from crashes, meny stops working, map markers overlap the fast travel and the balloons you have to place will not be placed; forcing you to reload in combination of a horrible autosave made this a less than enjoyable experience.

    Unfortunately one of the worst games I have played this year.
    The game Crashes all the time, I lost my savefile 3 times.
    The peformance works terrible. The game was bugged for Caij Quest for more than a month.
    The gameplay also have major issues.
    The only part for me that was good in this game was the Story...

    Manuel saves only is incredibly disrespectfull of users time. Around 2/3 trough the game my file breaks and becorse i am not allowed to manuel save I now have to start over.
    Insisting on autosave only adds nothing to the player exspirience. There is no good reason for this

    Even with all the well documented performance issues aside (and it can be a struggle to overlook them especially when like me you had the game crash consistently once every hour or so while just walking around), this just isn't a very good game.

    It feels like Star Wars should be a pretty adaptable and easy recipe to master, especially when it comes to game design. Give me a lightsaber and make sure the controls feel tight. Seems simple enough on the surface. Instead - like the last game, it feels like a trend chase; western devs who clearly love and admire the works of the likes of FromSoftware, who don't understand what makes those games special or how to capture the satisfying mechanical feel of them.
    Hits don't feel impactful, dodging feels way too stiff and imprecise, all the while enemy attacks just seem to have a really heavy pull to you; sliding them across the ground even when you dodge correctly. These are the kinds of issues that were resolved in FromSoft games in like 2011, so it just feels unforgivable at this point.

    The writing is as many recent SW outings across TV and film have been: sights and sounds simulators with nothing new or interesting to say. They know that the masses want slop to lap up; seemingly insatiable and rabid fans with an unquenchable hunger for references to some far flung expanded universe book that amount to nothing more than some little freak called Glup Shiddo showing up in the background for them to clap for.
    The last actually original feeling SW content was The Last Jedi. Like it or not it actually tried to challenge the status quo of what SW is and could be, while having genuine character arcs that feel resolved and or clearly inbound for a conclusion.

    Jedi Survivor picks up with the same lifeless protagonist as it's predecessor, a person with delivery so dry that it's impossible to feel drawn in. The supporting cast - like the first game, has one saving grace in the form of Greez, however he is woefully absent from most of the game, leaving you with a cast that feels like the boring versions of the already insufferable Guardians of the Galaxy.

    Just not good. If you see a used copy cheap or a digital sale where it's 60% off, then *maybe* it'll be worth your time, and that's only if you love SW.    … Expand

    This game is a disaster. 6 patches later the game still doesnt work properly on ps5 atleast for me. I get constant frame dips and screen tearing. Doesnt matter if i chose performance mode or quality mode wish they would fix it.

    The game and story are great but I can’t with good conscience rate this game any higher than a 2 because it’s broken. EA had no business to release the game in this state, they should’ve delayed it because it obviously needed more time to be polished. As gamers we need to start demanding complete games upon release, we vote with our wallets and all of us need to stop buying broken games.

    As of now, I don’t recommend this game to anyone playing on PS5. The frame rate (mostly at or below 50 FPS in a blurry looking 1080p) is still unacceptable for an AAA title on such a capable hardware. Buyers beware.

    There is an amazing game hidden underneath a gigantic pile of bugs and performance issues. I'd recommend checking back in about a year before buying it, or you will not have the intended experience.

    Edit: Patch 6 came out after a month of radio silence, and it only seems to have made things worse. Lowering the rating to reflect that. Please don't buy the game until at least 2024.

    I tried to give ea and respawn a chance they simply do not listen to the community after multiple patches the performance frames and screen is still HORRIBLE!!! When it should have been their priority.. I feel sad for the series!

    Unfortunately a broken game. Game impaired by visual glitches, framerate issues (especially so during cutscenes) and the final nail in the coffin: corrupted save date. I had just come back from walking the dog when I found out, that the game had set me back several hours. I had finally gotten to the end fight and it basically put me back to the start of the game. Worlds are mostly empty and it is rare to find useful loot. The stance system is silly and only a couple stances are worth using at all. I have been gaming for 30 years and this is the most frustrating game I’ve bought in that time - uninstalled it halfway through and zero chance I’ll finish this one.… Expand

    I really did feel okay with the story and the gameplay. Until I find I'm just button mashing the same enemy with a different skin. It's the same formula for every encounter. The bugs, the side quests, everything about this reminds me why I wait for a deep sale so these bugs can get ironed out.

The world feels more populated and alive than the previous entry but the bugs just absolutely kill any enjoyment and if you’re a completionist you’re gonna be sorely disappointed because a game breaking bug may prevent you from getting that platinum trophy until it’s patched; something we’ve been waiting on for over a month. How this game got this farGreat story, beautiful set piece.     I am a massive fan of all things star wars but this game i found to be boring and a massive step back from the original. I am referring here to the back step in stances, that you can now only use 2 at a time and can only be changed at a rest point. Story was ok, more so in second half.

    For me the main issue that affected my enjoyment was the numerous flaws and glitches i have experienced, the quest markers wouldn't update which made me head for 40 mins in wrong direction, on another occasion just going up a lift my character would die as if fell from great height, tears in images on screen and also blurry images, faces look ridiculous at times.
    This game has stopped me from ever buying digital game again and now i feel stuck with a game i will never play again. This coming from a fan who still plays Battlefront 2 to this day. I will also avoid this developer as a result.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If I was rating this game based on characters, story and settings alone, it would probably get at least an eight.

    Unfortunately, the poorly implemented combat system ruins the immersion that STORY mode would otherwise give the player.

    Respawn broke practically every cardinal rule for engaging combat in this design and the end result is a grueling, repetitious grind with little reward.

    1. Don't interrupt the rhythm and flow of combat with cutscenes. We know why we are fighting... no further exposition is required. All it does is drag the player out of immersion and interrupt their gameplay.

    2. If you do decide to interrupt combat with cutscenes, at least have the courtesy to keep the enemy target locked at the end of the cutscene. They were locked on when the player went into it... why do you keep disengaging lock after the cutscene? To give the opponent a few extra hits while the player waits for the abysmally slow response to input?

    3. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Jedi Fallen Order combat was fine. The parry system in Survivor might have been an acceptable change if it weren't so poorly implemented. When you combine the parry system with the erratic camera and the random target lock loss, it's just a horrible mechanic.

    4. In the end game, after the player has mastered every force power, stance, and purchased every perk, why are they still the weakest jedi that has ever existed? What exactly is the payoff for all the work the player puts into gaining these abilities if they are so weak that they are practically useless? Why does every single jedi in the game, even one who was in the same circumstances as your character, possess grand master level force abilities? Literally the only opponents you can willfully crush are stormtroopers... you know, the same ones you were crushing at the beginning of the game. There is practically no reason to gain skills because they hardly give the player any advantage at all.

    5. Where are the player's area of effect force powers? Why does every single boss fight have AoE, but at no point in the game does the player have the opportunity to earn similar or at least competing powers? Why is the combat designed to punish the player not for choices they make, but for choices they don't even have?

    6. Unblockable attacks. Sure, why not? Spamming unblockable attacks with follow-on melee attacks at twice the combat speed of the player... no. It is not fun in any way.

    7. Unblockable arena-crossing magnetic attacks. What is the purpose of dodging when every single dodge has to be timed to perfection to evade a crushing amount of damage? In the end, the player simply becomes a damage sponge who circles their opponent trying to dodge or parry in the hopes that they might get a few shots in every few minutes or so. Rather like whittling wood... except the player isn't playing a wood whittling game, they are playing a Star Wars game as a Jedi.

    I was really looking forward to this game, but from the get-go the combat was just so sub-par in implementation that at no point did I feel like a jedi. Boss fights were so repetitious and frustrating that at the end, I felt absolutely no sense of accomplishment... just the huge relief that I could get past that and on to the next part of the story, finish the game and uninstall it without looking back.    … Expand

I'm not the kind of guy to take my frustration out on a meta critic website but this game has SO MANY GAME BREAKING BUGS it compels me to take time out my busy schedule to warn others. This game simply is NOT READY. Even a month after release. Just discovered another game breaking bug (cannot interact with BD-1 anymore, so I can't use electric darts, so I had to restart the game. Lost 1 hour of very valuable game progress. This is simple getting ridiculous. There are bugs that developers should have squashed. I've encountered more than 5 very serious bugs.     Don’t buy unless on sale. First mission is 9/10, the rest of the game is 3/10.
    1. Performance: constant drops on performance mode and runs in 720p. Looks like pixelated mess
    2. Story: most boring story, especially compared to previous game. Main villains is just blend, characters don’t develop at all.     3. Gameplay: 80% of the game is Lara Croft style empty dungeon exploration. Other 20% it tries to be Sekiro, but fails. Fighting feels great in duels, but when there are multiple enemies it’s just bad. Game punishes you for everything, blocking invincibility windows and strange(because of the delay between blocks), enemies spam unblockable attacks and unlike souls games those are the same basic attack animations just with red light. Same goes for droids, sometimes they flash red lasers for unblockables, other times do the same for regular attacks.
    Play forming part is a big joke. You can run walls, but only the highlighted ones. You have a grapple hook, but it works only for specific points. Sometimes it gets ridiculous even for a Jedi game - you push yourself from a wall and force push yourself back in it 5 times in a row to go up. After middle of the game most of the time you do double jump + force dash through power field which allows you to double jump and force push again. Just give him a jet pack.
    4) Voice acting: it was great for everybody except Merin. Only in English she sounds like a fan made voice acting, dull and uninspired. Even worse than Ada in RE4 remake.

There is also a game breaking bug in regards to doing bounties. An important progression system that has cosmetics and weapons cosmetics tied to them, along with a currency system. This bug didn't even allow me to start the quest and tackle the necessary targets. It's a huge shame, because Jedi Survivor has the makings of a great saga, but all of thes issues kill any sense of enjoyment whatsoever. I beat the story, but I immediately dropped it straight after, because I do not believe my money was worth all the nonsense I went through.

    PLEASE do not buy this game guys. I am not saying it is bad, because it isn't, but EA and Respawn practically got away with our money and gave us a half baked product. WAIT FOR A YEAR, before you buy it. There are far more promising titles coming from trust worthy devs that will do right by their fans. Unfortunately, I will not buying anything from Respawn day one again. In fact, I know they've lost alot of costumers and future ones too, because of their incompetence. You've been warned.     So poorly optimized. The stuttering and frame drops make the graphics look early ps3. The graphics look like an oil painting with fuzzy edges. I stopped playing after about 3 hours because I want to wait until the game is fixed so I can enjoy it properly.

He has one arm and uses the force I guess to make a fake arm? Like that’s just now a thing.. just randomly there 3 times and then poof! And Bode is even worse. Instantly knew he was either there to die in the beginning to give weight to some story beat, or he’d end up being some villain who betrays you.. when you have a character who is there from the beginning and you’re forced to blindly trust him you know he’s up to something. Also he has a very bland character design so you know he’s there for some random bland purpose. Performance issues aside (yes even the ps5 version has consistent massive frame drops on quality mode), the story and combat were extremely lackluster, we get new characters with little to no development, a bad guy that was so forgettable I can't remember his name off the top of my head even though I just finished the main story 10 minutes ago (dago something?), and combat that feels very empty once you get the hang of just mashing square to break poise, dodging if the enemy turns red and blocking if they try a regular or ranged attack. Beyond the mediocre story and combat the level design is just so uninspired, yes there are really cool visuals and some parkour sequences that are enjoyable but otherwise it's just the same double jumping into dash with some climbing, wall running and hookshotting sprinkled in. Most of the shortcuts feel completely unnecessary, you will often get a shortcut and wonder why it was even needed at all, my guess is that this is mostly for people trying to get all the collectibles, but these weren't that appealing to me anyways. You will often pass by certain doors or objects that are unreachable until an ability is unlocked later on in the game (similar to GOW/GOW: Ragnatok in recent years), but the drive to return to these spots completely dies out once you realize it's all just for uninspired cosmetic items that do nothing to enhance gameplay in any way. The only cool items in my opinion were a few of the outfits and the lightsaber modifications, but most of the time you just ended up with a new colour pallette that you'll never use. Can't recommend this game, even if they do improve the performance. Do better please.… Expand

    When I play the Uncharted series, Tomb Raider, The Last of Us ect, this game is light years away from being so fun and so good and quality that simply compared to the franchises I mentioned among others, it's not worth a game note 7

All of this while what they should actually be doing is holding the company behind it accountable, but of course they won’t want to piss off the wrong people now, do they?

    Anyone that has bought this game has bought a broken product and defending it is just enabling big companies like EA to keep doing **** like this to the consumer. I’ve literally seen reviews on here giving it a score of 8-10 even acknowledging the performance issues but accepting it because the name Star Wars is slapped onto it.

    To be critical, I’ll give it a 2 in its current state. Combat, gameplay and story are mostly fine even if slightly generic, but it loses 8 because of it being a total mess on launch and I feel cheated into buying a game with that much money behind it when it’s not finished.

    Also please remember, that a big company like EA does not need you to white knight for them. A brand like Star Wars does not need you to white knight for them. They’ll do just fine on their own. They don’t care about you, just your money and the more we keep giving it to them and defending them for stuff like this, the less they are ever likely to change.    … Expand

    The environments are lacklustre, everything feels like an empty desert. There is empty Coruscant, empty random planet I cannot even remember the name of, the broken moon which in reality is just an uninteresting space base and Jedah, which is a desert. What happened??? We had Kashyyyk, Zeffo, Bracca, all beautiful unique environments...

    The platform elements are boring. Jump on wall, run on wall, use a rope. We had these already in the previous episode and in every action platformer game in the past 20 years.

    The combat is unbalanced. There are mini bosses that are waaaaay harder than almost any of the big bosses. Which are mostly hit and dodge too, anyways. The stances could be a nice refreshment, but why can I slot only 2 at the same time? Why is there a 2 handed stance where the lightsaber feels like a broadsword? The blade of the lightsaber does not have weight and the weight of the hilt does not change based on how it's held. Illogical ****

    And the customization. Ahh. I can change the color and appearance of the lightsaber, Cal, BD who is not even visible most of the time and can have an aquarium and a garden. This feels more than insulting. Why can't we customize the Mantis, intertior, exterior? Customize the interior of the pub... Build a small settlement... Or do anything that feels remotely interesting and meaningful.

    Last but not least, the technical part: I had some crashes, a lot of texture popups, slowdowns, etc which probably will be better in a couple of weeks. But the animations are horrible, the characters and mounts seem/feel like ice skating on the ground.
    And the game does not seem like a PS5 game. Horizon which was released last year has jaw-dropping environments, animations, lighting, character animations. Compared to that, SWJ:S feels like at least previous generation.

    Overall, the whole thing feels like a very bad fan mod or a 5 dollar unofficial DLC.    … Expand

    Don’t by this game unless you enjoy clunky gameplay. I had hoped they would have improved on the game play from the previous title, but no, it’s still the same frustrating combat, annoying game play and the story is pretty flat. Not impressed at all. I keep trying to give it more chances and end up turning off the PlayStation all together because Cal didn’t latch onto a wall or something. I really can not stress enough how awful the combat is. For example I go to take one swing with the light saber, Cal is so slow that I see the enemy start to attack, I press block, but no no, Cal is still stuck on the last move. I take damage, so I just sit there focusing on defense, the enemy has an opening so I attack, enemy moves slightly and Cal misses altogether wasting a force move, now a rocket comes in from the periphery but I can’t force push it because I’m out of force, I get knocked over, meanwhile another enemy jumps on top of me. I try to block again but still Cal is too late. It’s like trying to play an online game but the lag is sooo bad you turn it off. When there are titles out there with amazing gameplay, horizon, assassins creed, nier automata to name a couple examples, heck the Witcher III wild hunt has better combat(or should I say more enjoyable). So disappointed in this game. Do not waste your money, wait for it to go on sale.… Expand

    I must be used to playing on PC or this game is just hot booty. You spam an attack button and try and dodge because you know an attack is coming but the input gameside is slowed and literal. If you hit that attack button 5 times, you're going to attack 5 times, once it's over or you've been wrecked then you can move and dodge. Garbage system if they purposefully did this.     Story is great, gameplay is good, but the game is not a finished product. I been playing on the ps5, and all the distortion and glitches. Compared to other ps5 games in 4k, it's just terrible. Fix it Respawn! If I am paying $80 with taxes for a game, I expect it to be a $80 game. I'm going to finish the game before you fix all the issues.

So thats been a complete miss compared from the last title. No idea whay they needed to change that.. In the old game , parrying felt good.. it "clicked" when you did it correctly .. But now? i dont even know if it generally works somehow? outside of the tutorial i have never had the feeling that a parry does anything.

    Also the story telling is "questionable" especially the environmental crap.. when you first do a rescue mission for a guy you were supposed to climba pilgrims path when you encoutner situations you cant solve with your current arsenal of tricks,, but then you simply remember another trick and hee you go, you can now airdash .. just like this. you have "unlocked" a new ability by just remembering it. and now the entire parcopurs heavily depends on exactky THAT. annoying as frigg. Same on a certain Hulker in a certain swamp..can't move stuff with your force? remeber a scene where Ceres used it and BAM now you can SLAM things with your Force instead of pushing or pulling them. same with the "dash through forcefields" anility of Merrin.. nope now you can , too since she gave you a talisman and a kiss. Yeah..no.

    MOST UTTERLY ANNOYING: the game has no mini map (okay thats bearable) but you can also only set beacons in the map and they do not who up in the real world (i thoughts that what beacons were for ?) and the game also does an awfull bad job to tell you where to go. sometimes you simply have to jump "somewhere" to see if there is a gtrapple point popping up somewhere further out "somewhere", to be able to maybe reach it.
    so no.
    Plus the many many many nonsensical issues that pop up in the story where the timeline seems to be conflicting. or things that jst dont make any sense like empire stormtroops scattered across a VERY impossible to reach path to the sanctuary - HOW did they get here with no jedi powers?    … Expand

I often find Cal making moves I do not want or simply refusing to execute button presses. Since Survivor is relying on fighting more enemies at once than its predecessor as well as more close combat, you will often find yourself surrounded by multiple enemies, beating the **** out of you and interrupting your every moves, while you helplessly see your health drained to certain death. This makes combat very dissatisfying compared to its predecessor. It could have been prevented by making the controls more accurate, immediate and yours. Then it would have been less frustrating and fair, comparable to Demon Souls f.e.
    The inaccuracy of the controls are particularly visible during the force tear challenges. Jumping, dashing etc is so inaccurate. Cables, ledges etc are missed despite clearly reaching them, so that these challenges become one long tedious trial and error frustration. I loved the predecessor, but this one can be skipped    … Expand

    Really too bad how this game has screen tearing, jittering, and slowness, even after the latest updates. This is performance mode on a 1080p TV. Nothing too crazy. This game is just not optimized. Tired of paying these prices for unfinished games. Lesson learned.

    This game should not be released at this time:
    -performance mode have even 640x480 graphics - really! Even then it has almost all the time drops of fps
    -graphic mode looks better, but it has huge fps drops all the time, it is not usable
    -reuse of fragments of previous game - what is funny, those places looked better than.
    -platformer with almost no "force" use - only lightsaber.

    Even after the first patch since it's release the performance is upsetting. This game does not deserve anywhere near a score of 10. These developers need to get it together and ship out games that are finished. If they expect us to pay full price for a game the game better be fully finished.

    This game run very poorly--uneven/stuttery frame dropping, screen tearing, crashing, and more. The worst is the horrible bugs. For example there is an xp loss bug which is maddening. You waste hours with that one bug alone, not to mention the other, many glitches.

    Not ok.

    if you like 2010 games this game is for you... but if you want an original game with refreshing gameplay, move around there is nothing to see..
    just a pale copy of everything that's been done before ...

    yeah i'm disappointed.. but we use to with star wars sadly...

    (no, problems are not graphic or optimization.. it's just the game itself)

    The game looks broken on my PS5. Textures disappear, frames slow down, FPS drops to zero. Horizontal lines on the screen when the camera is rotated. All geometry is distorted and covered with ripples. This game is not ready for sale. Bad release.

    Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a much bigger game than before, with plenty of new moves, collectibles and characters to discover. The size of its open-world maps means it also lacks some of the variety of its predecessor, but there is so much to see and do that you'll likely not care one jot. Perhaps the most impressive aspect is how well fleshed-out the adventure is - better even than many of the TV series and films on which it is based. This is a blockbuster in the truest sense.
