    Sorry but this game is soooooo boring.
    I have finish the first biom after 3 hours with 6 deaths. then come the red desert and is more harder with low hp.     Growing up on starfox's short n sweet hook i always wondered if there would be a way to do it for this era and Returnal came through like it never left. The sound design atmosphere , homages, thematic choices and more come full cirle with the story and

Depending on how much time you want to put in in ant particular session , you can go for short n sweet , fast and difficult(if you have the shortcuts unblocked) or the full aythtough if you got more time to spare sprinkled beautifully with the risk and reward aspect that has you tackling goals, taking leaps of faith as your build is never the same from the last . Maximizing weapons is a trip aswell that usually makes you ponder if you're willing to deal with the alternate fire or the gun type being the best case scenario. Immense replay value also (ghost n goblins thing goin on (; ) the ps5 controller effects are a good implementation and as far as issues, crashed once but it has so much going for it ... The roguelite we've been waiting for! Returnal will go down in history as one of the GOATs, hope to see multiple DLC and/or a sequel ...    … Expand

    I don't like rogue-likes and the ending is trash. If you wanted good sci-fi story then look somewhere else - it's not a sci-fi.

    I like the visuals though.

    All in all, to me personally this game feels boring and repetitive. I do understand that it is roguelike but Hades, for example, was a completely different experience. So try it at your own risk but do not pay the full price. This game simple does not deserve that.

    UPD: After finishing the game and seeing the end of the story (sort of) I got so disappointed that changed my review to a well deserved 2 points. Such a waste of time and money!    … Expand

    There's a lot of crashes and soft locks for the game where you always start from the begining. And runs are CRAAAZY long. You can skip most of the rooms, even with enemies. But then whats the point? Run thru large areas, unable to buy some upgrades and weapons? Good luck with that. Hades takes about 20 mins to finish whole run.    Good things: combat and sound.

    Returnal is more like Risk of Rain 3, then a AAA Sony exclusive. Destruction All Stars kind of failure maybe.
    Maybe if devs would've decided to spent money on some good game designer, instead of money bags for press this game would worth full price.
    But we have next PS5 exlusive that could compete with steam early access games. Way to go sony!    … Expand

    This game is not a bad game but not a great game either. I've enjoyed my time with it but this is in no way a £70 game. The fact that Sony are selling this game at that price is quite frankly embarrassing. Its essentially a rogue like indie game that they are charging more for than most games. Disgusting and a taste of things to come with ps5 I imagine.

    Worst game you will ever encounter, you will spend hours of gameplay with no rewards or reasonable progression upon a single mistake or death. Not to mention the random environment population makes it very hard to anticipate or learn from being killed by enemies/traps in previous runs. Total waste of money

    I've finished every Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. This game is harder than all of them. It's like trying to play a souls game and being forced to start over if you die. I'm genuinely astonished by the positive reviews, because I think most people will hate how repedative and punishing this game is.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'd like to love this game and even went in excited, but I quit after my fist cycle. I beat the first boss on my first cycle and made it, I'm guessing, 25-30% into the second biome/zone before dying to the second corrupted "Sentient" (pushed off of ledge with low health).

    That was Friday night before deciding to stop for the day.

    When starting up again the next morning and deciding to skip the competitive daily challenge I started my second cycle. As soon as I picked up a 1* weapon and realized weapon proficiency didn't carry over, I quit. The gameplay is solid and the story is interesting, but the weapon traits don't make enough of a difference to improve odds moving forward. It's not even about difficulty as much as it's about annoying gameplay mechanics.

    It's different when the game is something like Hades or Dead Cells where it's OK to start over with very little, but even THOSE games offered more permanent progression than this game, which just seems to be padding it's runtime more than anything else.

    If they ever patch in an "easy mode" where you can choose to keep more permanent progression (or even pick-and-choose what to keep, to customize difficulty), I'll gladly jump back on and finish it. But I just don't have the tolerance for a game of this scale trying to be a hardcore rogue-like.    … Expand

    Until it gets a save and quit feature it is essentially unplayable for me. Add to that the issues with crashing losing you hours of progress and the negatives completely negate any gameplay positives.

    I have a busy work life. My time is really previous. I really enjoy gaming but I'm a casual gamer. I have put this game down for now and won't pick it up again until there is a proper save game feature. I really don't have time to lose hours and hours of progress everytime I die, or shut down the console or the game flashes.     So far the game is very enjoyable but is marred by the frustration of a lack of autosave functionality. I fail to see how having the ability to quit and save would "break" the game given that you can put the console into rest mode and effectively do the same thing. The problem with this however is 2 fold, if the console crashes or the power goes out all of your progress is gone. I know rest mode only uses a little power but if I'm leaving the house I want to turn off the console completely.

    If this issue is fixed I'd bump the score up to an 8. I also have issues with the story but I won't spoil that here. Sufficed to say I think it's a bit of a let down and has been done better elsewhere. The gameplay does carry it over the finishing line though.    … Expand

You will die over and over again because the game didn't give you anything useful in the first couple areas. You can snowball and beat the game in a couple tries if you're lucky or you can just keep dying because you never get decent weapons or healing.     I'll be honest, it took me a bit to figure this game out. It isn't easy - as stated in most everyone's review. If you frustrate easily, avoid this game. However, with time and patience comes knowledge and the game shines. The combat is frenetic yet fluid. If I get damaged or die it mostly feels like my mistake(s). There can be some camera issues once in a while but for the most part II'll be honest, it took me a bit to figure this game out. It isn't easy - as stated in most everyone's review. If you frustrate easily, avoid this game. However, with time and patience comes knowledge and the game shines. The combat is frenetic yet fluid.     It's truly unfortunate that an outstanding game like Returnal is getting attacked and review bombed - mostly by those who openly confessed did not finish the game due to their inability to overcome the difficulty, by those more interested in using their critical video game review outlet as a societal and political one, or by those who simply haven't and will never play it.

    At the time of writing this the trophy unlock percentage for completing Act 2 is at a staggering 3.1%. Unfortunately this is the point that some will simply accept the game is finished and refuse to push through to complete Act 3, which currently sits at an even more disconcerting 0.3%. When only 3.1% of players are completing the second act of the game it's very clear there is a larger agenda at play regarding negative reviews.

    The Alien inspirations - if not more specifically Prometheus at times - throughout the environments, atmosphere and audio design are apparent and executed very well. Comparisons between Returnal and last year's Hades have been far too plentiful, and personal not very apt. I believe those comparisons are coming from people who experienced their first Rogue-like/Rogue-light with the relatively easy and extremely forgiving Hades, and believe that to be their foundation for what the genre "should be."

    I would sooner compare Returnal to Housemarque's previous arcade style games: it is frenetic, fast, and unbelievably colorful once the action kicks in. There are also fairly clear points taken from the Metroid series (also heavily inspired by Alien) regarding visuals and exploration.

    While I'm aware of minor crash reports, I believe those are being inflated and used as a patsy by those intent on damaging the game's reputation due to political reasons. Having played dozens of hours over the past few days - and finishing the true Act 3 ending last night - I can genuinely say I never experienced a single crash. This was with the game running for well over ten hours each day.

    The only thing I will touch on with the story is specifically in the storytelling. I thoroughly enjoyed the fragmented method used throughout the game to tell small clusters of information. While many players won't ever read any of the text-based ship logs at all I found it brilliant that these ship logs were changing as your understanding expanded. It is truly a shame that there was no attention drawn to this in-game. While some will certainly not enjoy the abstract, ambiguous and unclear ending - even after full completion - I found it wonderful. As I was playing I enjoyed thinking about what was really happening, and I believe it's a strength to the game that most of my conflicting theories were all still valid after the credits rolled for the final time.

    Returnal is not for everyone, but when you hit your flow state and are firing on all cylinders it's hard to deny just how unforgettable it can be, especially to those who enjoy what the game successfully accomplishes with it's gameplay decisions and difficulty.    … Expand

After seeing the good reviews I decided to give the game a try. First of all I want to say the game looks really great, not as good as demons souls, but still very impressive! The environments are creepy, yet beautiful. The particles light up the screen while you dodge incoming attacks from enemies. The use of the dualsense and 3D audio in this game is one of the best so far. It creates a sense of immersion I’ve not experienced in many games so far! The story is good, you get these short glimpses of the main characters story, and sometimes audio files during gameplay. These are creepy and interesting, and you slowly get to know the planent and yourself. But there are a few things that aren’t perfect, yet. After a few hours of gameplay the games performance is reduced and some texture are lower quality. I believe this is a problem that could be fixed, as the games works flawlessly after you restart the game, but it is still a little annoying. To sum up my review, it is a really good and interesting game. It has a good story, intense action, and one of the best uses of the dualsense and 3D audio to date. Would I recommend the game? YES! It might not be for everyone, I wasn’t sure I would like it myself, but I really do! If you decide to grab this game, hope you have really good time with it just like I do!… Expand

It makes each subsequent run much easier, and after you get used to the bullet-hell tactics this game becomes a solid roguelike. The story is incredible, and also very ambiguous.     Pretty good game, with excellent graphics and atmosphere. I think they should add some auto save once in a while tho, so we can enjoy a little more all the environment instead of running for your life so you don’t die without saving. That being said, it’s a solid 9 for me (I gave it a 10 because of the review bombers)

    Les graphismes sont plutôt beaux et le jeu de couleur et luminosité sont bien rendu. Les décors sont plutôt bien travailler et d'ailleurs c'est pour ma part ce qu'il y a de mieux dans le jeu.
    Voilà ça s'arrête là. Pas d'autre point positif.
    Et le gros point noir c'est clairement le gameplay, qu'est ce que c'est lourd avec une sorte de sensation de crispation des persos. Et ça devient très ennuyant tellement c'est toujours pareil. Il n'y a aucune variété dans la façon de jouer.
    Concernant les contenus bah c'est quasi vide, les menus ne servent quasi à rien alors qu'il y a un coté RPG et le peu de temps que l'on passe dans les menus c'est pas du tout bien foutu, pas instinctif, pas ergonomique. Il y a quasi rien à faire sauf taper, taper, taper. A si les système de butin qui aurait pu être attrayant avec un coté prenant, mais non, on s'en moque assez vite.
    Le scénar est quasi inexistant, cherchez pas à trouver une histoire ou une narration, elle est réduit à peau de chagrin, quelques passage pour dire qu'il se passe des choses mais c'est tout. Et c'est d'un basique...
    Au niveau de l'IA alors là c'est au niveau des pâquerettes. A ce demander si ils en on une. L'IA ce limite quasi à ne faire que taper, les esquives, protections ou même changement de patern sont quasi inexistant.
    Le jeu à quelques bug. Par moment j'ai eu les menus qui se sont superposés, lors de baston des coups passer au travers de l'ennemis, j'ai eu aussi par 2 fois un ennemis qui se retrouve bloquer dans un mur et l'autre les jambes dans le sol. Très drôle d'ailleurs de le voir courir sans pouvoir bouger.
    Et dernier défaut, la fluidité. Alors là c'est pas normal pour un jeu qui est quand même assez vide. Par moment on sent vraiment la chute de fps, surtout avec les pouvoirs/combo.
    En conclusion un jeu vraiment très très très moyen. Limite décevant surtout pour un AAA. Mais je veux pas être trop sévère sur la note parce que le jeu ouvre le bal des exclu AAA sur next gen et c'est jamais facile de passer en premier. Surtout qu'on a pas sentit Sony soutenir vraiment le jeu. Par contre si le jeu était sorti après d'autres et après plusieurs mois de mise sur le marché des next gen, là j'aurai était plus sévère sur la note.

    I really love this game! I think it's challenging enough. The gunplay feels good. The 3d audio is so good, I can pinpoint exactly where the enemy is just by sound. The dualsense is also superb, this is what a next gen game should be! 2 times so far I had the doos not open for me, glad I was still at the beginning. I hope they fix this bug soon.

    Returnal is what i would call a must get if you're looking to get a PS5, the combat in Returnal is really creative and the idea of making a rouge like game into scifi 3rd person shooter is great way for new ideas for gaming, To sum it all up, It's an awesome game and must get for the PS5.

    Es la primera vez que juego a este estilo de videojuegos y al principio me dio la impresión que no era para mi, hasta que le agarre la mano y me sorprendió lo increíble que es. El sonido envolvente, el dualsense, los gráficos. La única critica es tener que dejar la consola en reposo para seguir con la partida.

    Not necessarily a difficult game. But when the game throws an enemy at you that isn’t a boss that is able to one hit you just to “advance the story”? That’s a bad tactic to pad it out. Other than that it was halfway fun and a beautiful way to show what the ps5 is capable of.

    On top of that there's the 70 USD price tag for what looks like a low-quality indie game instead of a AAA title. I have played indie games with much much MUCH better gameplay and story.

    Instead of fixing bugs with trophies, the developers suggested replaying the game. I found out about this after 60 hours of trying to knock out the missing trophy.

    This game is a true next gen and marvelous technical achievement. Amazing Alien Prometheus atmosphere, great adrenaline gameplay, super cool design, music and futuristic controller feeling. You can not experience this on any other platform. A must buy if you like challenging games.

    I love roguelike games (especially Isaac) and i didn't expec that Returnal could give me such great expirience in this ganre. Beautiful graphics (playing on LG OLED TV), smooth animations, convinient controll of the character, surroundings like in Alien movie, i'm all into it.

    This game is just stupidly difficult, played it for almost two days and couldn't get past the first level. Super hard boss at the end if you even make it there, and then you die and get to replay an hour again to get back there. The pickup and powerful system is absurdly complicated and vague while also having basically no impact on the gameplay.     Overall, Returnal is a" good" game that could've been GREAT if not for some poor choices from the developers. First, they really, truly need to add an ability to save; let it erase the your save when/if you die, like other Rouge-like games do; I've lost my progress probably 10-15 times due to crashes, power issues, and random updates. Oh, and run-breaking bugs, like the time I randomly clipped through a floor i the 6th biome and somehow landed on a surface below the game map, unable to get back up, so the only thing I could do was abandon my perfect run and restart. Then there's the time my audio completely cut out in biome 6 and I had to restart. Oh, and the time the game crashed and my save data became corrupted almost immediately after finding the rarest collectible in the game. All of this is in addition to normal dying, which will happen A LOT; the game is very challenging when it's working properly, making it damn frustrating when it's not. Then, there's some equally frustrating design choices; beating it multiple times to see the true ending felt like a chore. While not spoiling anything, you basically need to play every level over and look for collectibles, then beat the final boss again to finish the "third act" and see the secret ending --- the payoff for all your hard work REALLY isn't worth the high level of frustration you will endure to get that ending. It's also unfortunate that the developers chose to make you essentially replay the ENTIRE game in Act 3, which only padded the campaign runtime while adding absolutely nothing new. It's a third act in name only. Earning the platinum was a painful, tedious grind that was NOT FUN at all; it required playing through the same level over and over again for days until I could get a certain room to spawn that had a collectible item needed for the trophy. Literally days upon days of grinding. Overall, this game has many fun moments, but just as many bugs and poor design choices that make it feel like a real drag at times.    … Expand

    too many bugs and issues no save points either so when your machine crashes you're **** definitely not worth 70£ will update if they're fixed but because of the 70 euro tag it won't raise the score much

    Es un juego entretenido, sin embargo tuve problemas en el primer uso, algunos Bugs con la partida guardada, tiene a ser medianamente repetitivo, pero es un gran juego, en cuanto a resolución en lo particular no me importa, pero no alcanza los 4k, tiene una especie de niebla que no le saca partido al juego en los fondos.

    The punishing difficulty of the enemies and bosses combined with the fact that you lose all your weapons in progress every time you die and have to start from the very beginning of the game is what made me stop playing. If you’re considering buying this game really research it first because chances are you’ll get so frustrated with it that you’ll stop playing it like I did. The game doesn’t respect your time and has zero tolerance for failure. Buyer beware!    … Expand

    Un decepción total, me lo vendieron como juego de nueva generación y es un juego que fácilmente pude correr una PS4, sin 4k nativos como me lo vendieron mas la caída de frames en muchas partes, horas para poder guardar el juego, no lo recomiendo para nada, no tarda en estar e 30 dólares como le paso a TLOU2

    This game is too hard and frankly it’s ableist. And Sony won’t give me a refund even though they did not advertise it correctly or give adequate information about what the game was. It doesn’t respect your time or money. A total waste of $80.

    This game is absolutely incredible. The 3D audio combined with the haptic feedback and eye-popping visual effects is like candy to your central nervous system. It all comes together so well and it is so satisfying. It needs to be felt with all of your senses to truly be understood.     The game is so much fun to play. Whenever I die, I just want to jump back in the next room with enemies because the combat is just an all around blast. It’s tough, but it’s really not that bad. It does get easier over time as you unlock gun upgrades and whatnot.

    The gameplay loop brings me back to classics like Metroid Prime. It’s extremely gratifying to bear through a tough run and reach a permanent unlock that allows you to reach more areas and find better loot. I can’t praise the game enough honestly. It’s the most fun I’ve had with a game in a long time. The only downside for me is the lack of a quit save. I don’t want save slots, just the ability to leave the game and pick up where I left off later. So far, that hasn’t been an issue because I’ve just been playing nonstop and don’t want to put it down.    … Expand

    The game has great atmosphere and story Technical the game is well optimized and bug free The bad part is that very punitive you will start over and over and the things you can keep after a failed attempt don’t help a lot and you end up feeling you wasted your time
    Wait for a sale 70 or 80 euros/dollars is a lot of that game

    Beautiful graphics, amazing sound quality! man I think they almost had a masterpiece here BUT not a fan of playing 2.5 hrs then dying and starting all over. The map is horrible, I hated it, the shooting was not good but just my opinion. I played it for like 5 hrs then returned it for full refund from gamestop.

First time I wasn’t that far in but the last time I had a good setup. Don’t believe the 0s and 1s this game is fun when it works. On that not it definitely isn’t a 9 or 10 either but with some patches it’s a solid 7 maybe even 8. Graphics wise it’s 1080pGame has some major bugs.     Superb game so far. Atmospheric audio and visuals combined with frantic gameplay. Dying never gets old and only spurns you on to progress and get better. Finally beating the biome boss gives a massive sense of achievement in this very hard Housemarque game.

    A perfect example of the performance of the PS5 and all its functions. Great gameplay and the music catches and won't let go until you get to the bottom of it all. But in the end, the final may surprise you unpleasantly.
