Not as frightening as Resident Evil 7 but still has some great scares and atmosphere. Graphics, sound and all technical aspects are top notch. It's a real AAA game. The character designs are wonderful. Chris looks much better than he did in 7. There's more action in this game than 7 but it doesn't go into RE4 territory which is good. The Story is a Sillent Hill 1 rip off and the shooting is not really good (Hitmarker are awful). But the rest of the Gameplay and atmosphere is amazing and really fun.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a game, it fulfills its role: it has fun. But as a Resindet Evil, it leaves a lot to be desired.
After having two titles followed by unrestrained action, the series returned to its origin in VII, what was great!!
But now, going back to follow the same path that drove fans away.
The great villain of the game, extremely cartoonish and theatrical character. Connections to history that discourage fans of the original Playstation 1 versions.
Even the Beneviento section, which has a great deal of terror. But it is psychological terror, running away from what RE has always proposed.
There are those who say that history does not tell in the RE franchise. To those, I recommend that you go and play the originals.

Without a doubt this game is in the top 3 of the best RE ever made. The perfect combination of action, horror, puzzles & good storytelling along with one of the greates graphics available in PS5. The only setback is it has some fps drops with Ray Tracing activated. Totally GOTY contender!

This is a fantastically great game! Everything was done expertly and it fits right in to the Resident Evil universe. Without any spoilers, the way that they divided the game into different levels with unique bosses was so cool! The horror prevails throughout, but the best horror is always just as cool as it is creepy. I honestly wouldn't change a single thing about it!

Resident Evil Village is a great game for the following reasons:

    2. Gameplay - I really liked the transition from almost exclusive horror genre (in RE 7) to action-horror, while maintaining the first person perspective.
The action mechanics are somewhat simplistic but the game compensates with lots of difficult situations that will force the player to be sharp or survive with no ammo. The game also includes many puzzles and some very interesting bosses arcs, that are delivered with great story and atmosphere in addition to the fight itself.
    3. Characters - I find Ethan Winters as a very good and relatable protagonist because he is a normal guy (mostly...) , and throughout the game he has to deal with some very disturbing and dark moments in order to save his child. As we progress we see how he is affected by the events until the ending.
The four lords are very interesting although you don't get a lot of interaction with them. However, It is amazing how reading the lore in the game succeed to expand your understanding their narrative.
The main antagonist added new depth to the lore of the series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge RE Fan, Village is Fun, But A Huge Step Back From 7/2/3.

First, let’s start off with some pros:

    - Insane replayability. Many people weren’t a fan of RE3 Remake, but I was, and I am super glad to see the unlock system/shop make a return here.
    - Length of the game compared to 7. This game is definitely longer, and due to the “action” nature of the game, it makes replays of it a lot more fun than 7, as the second half of 7 is much less enjoyable than the first half.
    - The boss fights for a Resident Evil game are surprisingly solid (except for one), which is rare for the franchise. Especially the final boss, it truly felt like a climactic battle.
    - Mercenaries mode is back! I don’t really need to say anymore, this honestly should be a series staple, and I was very disappointed in it being absent in 7, 2, and 3 (3 especially, that is actually sinful).
    - Unlockables encourage Replayability.

Now let's start to get into what irks me about this entry in the franchise. Village very much takes inspiration from 4 (almost to a complete fault at times), and unfortunately 5, and 6. Here are some examples with regards to 4 (Spoilers Ahead):

    - Shortly after arriving in the Village, we are once again faced with yet another “Village” sequence from RE4 (which has already been used 5) where the protagonist has to fight off or survive against wave after wave of enemies. Once again, towards the end, here comes a big enemy with a hammer to chance you down, just like the Majini back in 5...
    - The lycan enemies look like wolves, but are actually just Ganados and Majini completely reskinned. They even hold weapons in a similar fashion.
    - There are multiple weapons in this game, but unlike 4, each new weapon is a direct upgrade of the previous one, so it makes little sense to bother using the merchant to upgrade your older one (unless you are low on Lei, the game’s currency).
    - There is yet another “Lake” sequence yet again, with a very similar enemy to 4, but this time, instead of being on a boat, you are instead traversing on foot through a flooded village in a heavily scripted sequence where dying is not even remotely a threat.
    - Later on in the game, the setting switches to a factory where enemies are mechanical abominations. Some of these enemies are straight up rips of Garridors from RE4, just without the difficulty or strength.

Now let us look at some other aspects of Village that fall short of the mark:

    - The boss fight with Heisenberg is just completely awful for how great of a character he was. It was Resident Evil 6 levels of awful. Not only is this a straight up Call of Duty sequence, but Heisenberg’s transformation is almost as terrible and unbelievable as the Derek Simmons T-rex from Resident Evil 6. Just a terrible fight all around honestly.
    - On the topic of fear, RE8 is not scary at all save for House Beneviento (which lasts all of 5 minutes after the initial fear wears off).
    - The lake section that was previously mentioned is almost entirely devoid of combat until the boss, which takes place directly after another sequence entirely devoid of combat.
    - Lack of puzzles for how huge the map is was a bit disappointing too. RE3 Remake had significantly less puzzles than 2 Remake, so to see 8 also drop the ball here is very disappointing.
    - Ethan Winters is an uninteresting protagonist. His line deliveries are awful, the emotion behind his voice isn’t there, and the fact we still don’t see his face is just awkward at this point. Leon had emotion, even with his worse lines
    - As much as I love Chris Redfield, he had absolutely no business being involved with this story (and his playable sequence was not particularly fun either, as it mimicked his and Piers’ gameplay from RE6). I understand that Chris obviously has a relationship with Ethan thanks to RE7, but the job and investigative efforts that Chris performed in 8 are much more applicable to Ada Wong’s skill set. Yes, that would’ve made 8 seem even more like RE4, but Ada is undeniably a much better fit here.
    - The story revelation towards the end regarding the BSAA are dangerously heading into Ja’vo RE6 territory.

As you can already tell, I wasn’t a huge fan of this entry, but regardless of its drawbacks, it still was fun to play, and the unlockables keep me coming back, so on that alone, I give this entry 7/10. I am still extremely worried about the future of this franchise after this game, and I really hope Capcom somehow sees my grievances to at least recognize some drawbacks of this critically acclaimed entry.

Starting from the best aspects, the work has an excellent artistic realization and a suggestive and intriguing setting, linked to the imagery of classic horror. However, it must be emphasized how what is visually striking is the complex, while if we focus on the details it denotes a lack of finishing that is sometimes annoying. The aesthetic aspect is very good, but nothing exceptional compared to what one is used to in other titles, this being a triple A title and as such it must be evaluated. The sound sector is good, however the music is devoid of originality and limp. Regarding the duration, I think it is very good since we are talking about a survival horror and an excessive length would have led to grouting. Excellent plot, not original but solid and well structured, very inspired, intriguing and full of functional and well integrated twists. The direction is average, the staging is sometimes very good, sometimes it drops, but it is never bad and the pace remains high for almost the entire adventure. The first concern concerns the gameplay. Despite being a survival horror and the first part follows that style, gradually a game play is intensified more, even at the greatest difficulties, to action, coming to be almost a first person shooter. This is also accentuated by a bland and overly mundane game design. The places are extremely not very complex, very linear and we almost proceed on autopilot; the puzzles are too easy, mundane and offer no real challenge. This leads to a flattening both of the progression, simple and linear, and of the satisfaction deriving from solving complex puzzles or the frustration of not knowing where to go, of getting lost in an unknown and hostile place, something that in that setting so characteristic of Europe. oriental would have been nice. This leads to the second perplexity. If the goal of a survival horror is, at least in experience, to provoke frustration, anxiety, fear, tension, estrangement, this video game, on the other hand, never manages to make these feelings feel, making it tasteless. The same enemies are not very incisive, perhaps because in excessive numbers, hence the action. Fewer enemies but with a better character design and a greater challenge in dealing with them would have helped. Finally, the villains. While they are certainly intriguing and sexually attractive, female lead characters are not only not dangerous, but they also fail to cause fear, anxiety or negative feelings towards them. To conclude, Residen Evil Village is still a good video game, capable of entertaining and with a story worthy of being told and lived, but it is certainly far from being what a survival horror should represent. Resident Evil (RE) has being a long-lasting franchise that captivated gamers with its puzzles, exploration, survival, and horror but over the years it has lost its charm and has made an increase of low-quality Resident Evil Games like Resident Evil Village.
    THE GAMEPLAY AND PROGRES
Is extremely linear and I know that you may be confuse so let me explain, being linear is not a bad thing but it's bad for Resident Evil games, everything that you need to progress the story is given to you, the fist key (and key is code word for puzzle item, I don’t want to mention what they are for spoiler sake) is given to you after escaping lady Dimitrescu then all of the keys for the door puzzle are also given to you after every boss battle specially when after defeating one of the daughters they give you a fake key to replace the real key because if you try to leave the room with the real key the door closes and you need to replace the fake with the real to leave the room. In a good RE game you would have come across the room while exploring the castle, take the key, realized that the door closes and your stuck, put back the key, and looked for another key or a fake key or a way to solve the puzzle. what made RE games interesting was the way you can play the game at your own pace and solve the puzzle in the order in which you found the items by exploring. You are given a clear objective like in Resident Evil 1 (RE1) to find your friends in the mansion but the game did not tell you were and how, you needed to explore and figure things out or in Resident Evil 2 remake (RE2R) were you need to escape the police station, you explore and find a way out, but in RE8 things are just given to you, you don't explore lady Dimitrescu castle to find the keys, they just give them to you at the end of a boss fight or at the end of a scripted sequence (something you cannot avoided or change) . This removes the fun of finding new things and using your deductive skills to figure out where things go and what to do, RE8 fails on the gameplay par of exploration
    EXPLORING THE MAP
Is a major part of the RE games but RE8 gives you the illusion of exploration when there is nothing there. Exploration is rewarding the player for living the main area and looking for something new or useful outside the main quest, RE8 does not provide this , if you look at every map location in RE8 you will notice that every location in the map is a story section there is not location that you can explore or a new area that you haven’t being too during the story except for the docks, path to Heisenberg, and the musician house, but these are all in the story path too. There is even an achievement for completing the map but remember by the end of the game you have seen everything. the reason why exploration was important and fun in RE games was because 1. usefully items that may help you in the game or key side quest items that lead to good loot 2. the puzzle to solve and backtrack to previous locations to explore new area and 3. When you went out to explore there is always a chance that an enemy that you did not killed attacks you while exploring/backtracking. in RE1 you can miss getting the shotgun because you need a fake shotgun that is inside of a secret room which needs a special key to open but then you later find the shotgun so you have to replace it with the fake because of you don’t once you leave the room with the shotgun the roof caves in and you die, or in RE2 Remake where you can miss extra bag pack slots by not opening the safes or miss gun upgrades by not solving the puzzles, you can even miss an entire extra gun while being in the police station which in my fist playthroughs I did miss the gun but RE8 proves none of this risk reward exploration and the only thing you get for exploring is money, no items for future section, no special guns, just money for the Duke
    SURVIVAL HORROR
Inventory is fundamental to RE games but in village they miss the gameplay purposed of the inventory system. The inventory system lets you do is create tension and choice to the player on resource management, do I take more heling erbs but if I do Then I don't have amo or do I take a shotgun which takes up more space in my backpack or play it safe and leave that space empty for collecting items these create tension and decision making at the players playstyle and choice to survey but RE8 does not have this, it could all have being fixed if you did not put resources as a separate category as items because you can have unlimited herbs for crafting and still have space in your bag pack because it does not affect you bag pack space, I have never had to make the choice in RE8 to consume one of my herbs to make space or leave behind amo because my bag pack is full
FINAL VERTIC Resident Evil Village is not a bad game but it’s a bad Resident Evil game, you should play it at some point when the game is $40

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. VILLAGE a very good game but not entirely Resident Evil

I have recently played RE8 Village, and although I liked the game in several ways, there are other points that make me hate it quite a lot. I’m old enough to know about the former "Biohazard" first person shooting games and the not so bad "Umbrella Chronicles", which gave us another side of the story at Spencer's Mansion. Knowing all this I must say that having all the resources and technology from these days, why don’t give the player the choice to change their view? Why a first person camera?.

Ethan Winters is a faceless character that never makes you get into his story, looking for his disappeared girlfriend Mia. (RE7). The feel of that game isn’t the essence of Resident Evil, but that is another tale.

RE8 VILLAGE plot is in the air, playing with european myths and literature, vampires, werewolves, monsters from the lake, etc... and Chriss Redfield attached to the story in desperate intent to turn this into Resident Evil, sorry but I don’t bite it.

The main facts and several parts of the story seem to be inspired by SILENT HILL, a father who is looking for his daughter in the middle of a strange place surrounded by demon-like creatures, but in this case all without salt and pepper. Maybe you can't find the resemblance with the old KONAMI title, but the truth is that this plot is weak, and certainly isn’t polish.

The good stuff, all the artwork is fantastic, even addictive, like Lady Dimitrescu and her castle. The game is fun but is it really a Resident Evil game? .

I can't give it more than 5 it would be a treason to all that deep plots and amazing characters from the main RE franchise,

I just love the new RE concept introduced in RE7 - and this one just takes it to another level. It is better than RE7 in almost every aspect. It is not as scary as the previous one (it has only one freaky episode with the doll master boss) but much more action-oriented, which is super cool — no need to count every bullet now, you can simply fight your way through the lycans. Well, in RE 8 it is finally pretty good EMOTIONAL story with some great twists and I did not expect to be able to really love the Resident Evil story.
Still it is a standard mysterious Resident Evil story where everything is explained in the end but this time it has some emotions.

Ethan Winters gets more personality and bigger and more interesting role here.

The legendary Chris Redfield is amazing, same for Karl Heisenberg and Lady Dimitrescu.
There are some really interesting ideas for puzzles that I really liked.
I like that merchant is back where you can buy supplies and guns or upgrade guns and treasures are back. The village is beautiful, soundtrack is great and boss fights are amazing and epic.
The environment is stunning there are many different impressive and well-designed buildings such Dimitrescu castle, the factory or the village itself.
The loading screens are barely visible in this game and the dualsense is also used well for first-person shooter.

Regular enemies are more interesting than the mold guys in RE 7 and I would say everything was done better here than in RE 7 except one thing and that is my biggest problem with the game.
It ain't too scary. One section in the game when you are defenseless and you are hiding from something was amazing but overall it is more about action.
It is about preferences so if you do not mind it or even you like more action you will not obviously see it as a mistake.

I would find one more thing that I did not like and that is the game is quite short for me.
It is standard to rest games in series but I personally want more than 8 hours for the first playthrough.
But after 25 years it still holds up for me best game in the series and one of the best at this time with highest quality at every point.
Great game with great story, graphic, gameplay, soundtrack, characters. I would recommend to fans of series and fans of this genre. I can't wait for next part in this legendary franchise.

    Pretty bad.

Honestly, its a downgrade from 7 in almost every way that matters to me. The atmosphere, the level design, the horror, the story... Yes, it has the vampire ladies. Genius marketing move by Capcom really to attract the hordes of pathetically horny gamers. Half the reviews here are about the vampire lady. That has been one of the only times a game has made me step away to take a breather from pure fear. I really liked the mansion section and the others, except for Heisenberg's area which I found solely irritating and repetitive with overly spongey enemies. Too much gun combat which ended up just making me rush through the area to get it done with.

In conclusion while I think this was a step up in storytelling I think it dropped in gameplay and immersion wise focusing too much on action and not horror.

Now the Horror element is great in most parts of the game, but for the most part it was lackluster unlike the game before this RE7. You almost never feel stalked the only time I felt that was when I giant baby was chasing me in the dark other then that there is no real horror in this game. The story is pretty stupid, but that's the point. They go all in, holding back just enough to maintain that creepy atmosphere throughout, all while being self-aware (much like RE4). It's more action-oriented than RE7, but devotes enough energy to tension and horror that it actually manages to be scary when it wants to be. The big dollhouse "surprise" is undoubtedly one of the most horrifying things I've ever encountered in a video game.

RE8 borrows a lot from other games, especially RE4, but doesn't compromise its own identity in the process. I prefer its predecessors, but I may grow to appreciate Village more in time and with subsequent playthroughs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. RE Village is one of my most anticipated game of the year and I am always been a big fan of the series. So how does this installment hold up? Sadly, it is an uneven entry which despite its incredible production values failed to evoke that sense of terror that was prevalent in its previous entry. The main problem was that RE became a victim of its success: even its previous remake of 2 and 3 are of such high quality, it made this installment slightly redundant. The highlight: the first half of the game, with its excursion of Castle Dimetrescu and its inhabitants that are so well designed that they became instant meme's. Each subsequent sections sadly could not reach that particular heights until the so called finale, where a more surprising action packed section, provides you with a much needed rush in adrenaline. Nevertheless, RE still provides the usual thrill and chills, and maybe this more streamlined, less 'horror' approach is the one that provides the sales for Capcom. Expand

The rest of the game is a fairly competent first person survival game at its heart that, while fun to play and engrossing, really makes you wonder where they are going to go from here with the horror aspects in the next game.
Easily this game features one of my most favorite horror sequences in gaming, and in entertainment in general. Its frankly that good but is over in almost a flash. It's also fairly early in the game, coming in around a 1/3rd of the way through. The rest of the game falls back on the action survival 1st person experience. It's done fairly well but really falls into an action first mentality, especially towards the final half of the game. While its not bad, I really wish we could have had at least 1 more horror segment of the game. As it stands, even with the amazing second area here, RE 7 was a much more horror-focused experience. But I'd say this was a better overall game. The overall story is fairly well done and sets up for many more games after this one, as well as some possible spin offs that might come about.
I'm very worried about how Capcom will handle those future elements. They've already come out and said they let off the horror pedal alot because of some backlash from RE 7 and it shows quite a bit here. It really makes me worried that they will discard it entirely, like they did with 5-6, and focus heavily on the action set pieces. I would still play those games as the action here is fairly good. But its clear that whoever is in charge of the horror aspects for this game knows what they are doing and it would be a massive shame if that element is taken away from the series yet again. Resident Evil became scary again with RE 7 and the horror elements here really show that they might be the best in the business when it comes to pure horror. I'm just afraid that the people who dont like horror might say this was too much and they will strip it from the next installment. That would be such a massive disappointment as its clearly the best part of these games.

Pushing you from one poor boss fight to another with nothing of substance in between. The castle was the only part that had any true feelings of tension. To much of village is spent in open areas with no feeling of being In danger. The game throws so much ammo at you that you can't possibly fail. Unfortunately for me the werewolves and vampires did not envoke any fear. All of the main villains are not well done. The sisters and the tall woman are killed of the first hour of the game. The beginning is extremely cutscene heavy for a solid hour and it makes the replayability less. The game is more silly than anything... RE 7 was an amazing game IMO it was already up there with the best horror games. It had the Atmosphere and setting that made for a Masterpeice. I am Happy to say Capcom has made Lighning strike twice with RE8V. Its got everything 7 had with an awsome new setting and even some improvments. The bigest improvment is combat, its more previlent and always keeps you on your back foot. I hear alot of new horrors fans claiming combat takes away the fear in these game and they want all horror games to be these walking simulators we got dozens of this generation. That is rubish. Combat is an intregal part of true survival horror. Go back and play the OG resident Evil and Silent Hill.games they are full.of shooting. It just that later games were larger so there was more of everything including enemyencounters.
The trick is to ballance the combat. Ammo conservation, lining up the shot and positioning is what builds tension in true survival horror. Not just jump scares and mountains of blood and gore.
If you run from an enemy because runing is the only mechanic at your disposal, that to scary, thats not tension. When you run because you cant trust your self to line up a shot due to low ammo , your location being to constictive and the heaviness of the situation, thats true fear and tension.
I really wish people would stop making statments like combat in survival horror makes it just like COD. The last 8 years have been terible for horror all we have got is walking simulators. The RE games are the last games staying true to the genre. Just let us have these games.. If you truly cant understand the nuances and complexities between the different controls and mechanics in diferent genres, do you really need to give an opinion.. There plenty of walking simulators for those that want them.

I have A LOT to say about this one, but I'ill get one thing out of the way already: I **** loved it!
While I don't think it's better than RE7, I do think that Village was bold enough to come close.

The two first things that astounded me when I pressed start on this title were the graphics and sound design. Capcom nailed it AGAIN with the RE Engine, as they have been hitting the perfect spots since 2017. The soundtrack might not be very memorable, but the haunting sounds and imagery of the village will forever stick with me.

After being in awe with Village's incredible presentation and set-up, I fell in love with the gameplay. Yes, the similarities with RE4 are all there, from gameplay, to pacing, mechanics and even story bits, but the biggest comparison should be done with RE7. Basically, RE8 carries over its previous installment's gameplay, but perfects it.
Every addition made to the gameplay loop worked perfectly. Ethan moves better, aims better, the Duke is not only a great character but also a fantastic shopkeeper, the ingredients system keeps you invested and everything else was well-developed in order to make the exploration and combat feel joyful to play. And they did it.
And not only exploration and combat were tweaked for the better, but puzzle solving too! Each puzzle feels light and not frustrating at all. Backtracking is rarely a chore and the interconnected levels are brilliant. I love this soft-puzzle-solving approach that Capcom has been taking the RE series and I hope they keep it up.
One other thing, this game was the easiest Resident Evil that I've played in a long while and while I don't think that this is objectively bad at all, I do recommend playing on harder difficulties if you enjoy the "survival horror" challenge.

Village's atmosphere is also one of the main things that kept me hooked. I felt that, like RE4 did in the past, RE8 manages to perfectly balance horror and action moments. Things get a little out of hand during the final hour, but it never felt out truly of place. Sure, it's not as scary as RE7 or RE2REMAKE, but it DEFINITELY kept me on edge and tense throughout the entire experience.
    **** that Beneviento ****

And the story: I also loved it!
Probably one of the craziest stories told in an RE game. Ethan, his family and even Chris are way more fleshed out than in RE7, and not only that, but the main cast is presented along with plenty stunning supporting characters. The Duke, Dimitrescu and her daughters, Heinsenberg, Miranda, Beneviento, Moreau and even Chris' goons or the poor villagers - they're all great!
Each area of the game is varied enough and fits perfectly with each villain. Environmental storytelling, packed with the stunning level design, was key to make it all work. Nothing felt out of place and the story benefits greatly from that. From beginning to end. It's surprise on top of surprise. And better yet - most of them were written pretty well!

Few things prevent this game from being the masterpiece that RE7 was. I'll be brief.
The thing that most bothered me is how little the story showcases its biggest strenghts. Despite being very good, Village has TOO MANY good things to show, and they do show them, but not for long! I just wish they expanded more about characters and the village itself. Especially during the final moments of the game.
Village didn't need to be longer, just... a bit broader?
The story also had the weirdest post-credits scene. If it wasn't for that, everything would fit naturally.
In my opinion, RE8 did little when they had a lot and RE7 did the opposite, which worked better.

Gameplay-wise, I didn't like the amount of missable items and areas. I mean, yes, if you miss them, it's your fault, but I wish there were indications about missing them other than the map.
And while the bosses were mostly very good, one of them felt a little too.... anime?
Also, the final hour of the game is TOO fast-paced. It does answer plenty of questions, but they say goodbye to the scary atmosphere and hello to FIRST PERSON SHOOTER. I didn't like that very much.
Oh, the Mercenaries mode! It felt ok, but not as fun as in RE4 or RE5. Shame, though.

I could spend hours talking about Resident Evil Village. It truly is an amazing game, with a few minor issues here and there.
Thank you for this game Capcom. Just give them your money, whether you're a survival horror fan or an action shooter freak.

    Now give us RE9, already.

Overall is a very good game, a lot of effort was put into it, wether by the visuals, sound and by the polished and engaging gameplay. Some may say it's a bit short (lasts about 10 hours), but I'd rather play something short, intense and well paced like this than some games that drags on for 30-40 hours just for the sake of been overly long.

It's very similar to RE7, but (unfortunately)

It's very similar to RE7, but (unfortunately) less focused on horror. We still get those scare jumps and classic backtracking Resident Evil gameplay, but RE4 like heavy action sequences are also in the mix. I do like it better when it sticks to the horror parts (especially the first half). The shooting segments are not bad, it's still enjoyable to be honest, but I prefer Resident Evil when it doesn't try to be Call of Duty.

Well-paced game but I feel like out of the 4 non-main bosses, the first 2 are more interesting so it's a little downhill from mid-point of the game. Graphics are good and there is a variety of gameplay so the game is not repetitive. Ammo is scarce enough that it's not a full on Call of Duty, and there are parts that emphasize hiding or running to survive.

Resident evil village is a mix of the old and a mix of the new.. This is a first person survival horror game with more of an emphasis on weapons than purely sneaking and sriviving.. which works in this setting, but I would’ve liked this to be more gradual.
Here once again like in resident evil 7 you play as ethan winters, searching for his daughter rose after their home is ambushed and the both of you are kidnapped, you find yourself in a village full of vampire meets werewolf character, and its so refreshing to not deal with lame zombies or mold creatures.. these enemies are terrifying when you first run into them… but I woulve loved a gradual lead up to actually getting some weapons in hand muck like in resident evil 7.. sneaking around this village, sneaking through the castle trying not to get caught as you got the items you needed, until finally you get a weapon, blast your way out of the castle and destroy the enemies in the village.. instead I almosti mmediatly felt untouchable.. which really killed the scary aspect of village for me.. there were definitely erie moments here for me.. but I never felt terrified the way I did in past resident evil games.. but as a more action almost first person devil may cry feeling game… village is great.. and I absolutely love the attention to detail and variety here… resident evil village is constantly switching up the areas as you set out to take down multiple targets in a vastly different setting from eachother.. theres so much to collect, find and upgrade like the older resident evil games, with the map color indicator letting you know when you’ve grabbed everything, and these a shop that just pops up along your journey to upgrade your weapons, buy ammo, or sell these crystals you pick up off of enemies, really giving you incentive to be aggressive here.. trying to afford all of the upgrades you can for your weapons..
Resident evil village does get a little lame and obring in its final stretch. .but they all do.. but not nearly as bad as 7 biohazard… if youre ready for resident evil to get back to the way it used to but don’t want to let go the creepiness first person adds to the series.. resident evil village is a perfect mix.. I do again just wish they tried to scare me a little bit more… much like in the maiden demo… more of that mixed into resident evil village, and this couldve reached masterpiece level..
    I give Resident Evil Village
    a 9/10

RE8 is technically a sequel to #7. However, #8 doesn’t have the horror focus. I didn’t find any part to be scary except maybe the giant baby chasing you. This is a pure action game- FPS. It’s good at being an action game, but I missed the horror. There are a better variety of enemies than #7. There are some puzzles- but they are quite easy. And the game is easy overall. And the game is easy overall. Like most RE games there’s quite a bit of backtracking. There are several twists and turns that I didn’t see coming- that was probably the best part. Although the ending had some over the top components- I found it to be satisfying. It’s a short game- only took me 6hours 39minutes first time, 2nd time took me only 4.5 hours skipping most cutscenes. Doesn’t seem to be worth the money. It does imply a sequel after the credits- but not with who you might think. Overall I’d recommend it if you like action/shooter games. But if you want horror, then it’s not going to fulfill that need. Didn’t really see a PS5 difference- not many opportunities for ray-tracing. But graphics in the castle were stunning. I didn’t think it was nearly as good as #7. I’d give it an 7/10 or 3/5. Expand

In one play through you will never be walking the same endless areas nor doing the exact same thing or fighting the same enemies, it is not padded for duration. In my first play through I clocked in at 18 hours. Then played 12 hours to obtain SS rank on Mercenary modes. Then played 40 hours to platinum. Also I spend one more hour enjoying the art and models and clips unlocked on finishing the game. The HIGHLIGHT of the game play is the huge amount of bosses and the enormous enemy variety, great mechanics utilizing PS5 adaptive triggers, ray tracing, HDR, 4K and most of the time 60 fps. All of these make the game a joy to play. As in most Japanese games, there is no political agenda in it, so that is another welcomed point. All in all, a very fun to play, very deep, AAA game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really cannot remember one thing that was bad in this game. This and RE7 are masterpieces, they are both equally good on its own way. Before i started my playtrough, i read from a lot of people that it is more action game than horror. But i wouldn't agree. The game has some REALLY scary moments. All the villains, enemies and sub bosses are perfect. Heisenberg voice actor did a great job, i must mention that. Also, the enemies from his area are creepy, especially Sturm Soldat. House Beneviento had the creepiest atmosphere in the game. But, oh my God, the deatils in this game. I am from Serbia, so our villages (Eastern Europe) are tottaly same like in the game. I really felt like it is some old village in my country. It is so detailed, every brick, every tree, every muddy road. After i finished the game, i closely watched concept art images a 3d figures of the characters, and that i realised indeed how it was detailed. I see that a lot of work and love was put into this game by the developers, so i appreciate that, i can't give nothing bellow a 10. Expand

Similarly to Resident Evil 4 back in the day, Village will attract a new generation of players and redefine the franchise for the modern age. I guess it’s time to stop looking back and counting on the series to return to its roots. Capcom is well aware of those roots and willingly draws from them to create something new but still infused with Resident Evil’s spirit. Village is not perfect, but neither was RE4, and once again it’s easy to turn a blind eye to the flaws, because overall it’s an amazing game. [07/2021, p.56]

Resident Evil Village feels like such a culmination. Bringing together elements from the franchise all the way up to now and crafting what looks to be the next step of survival horror, it embraces every aspect of the franchise. While the insidious dread of Resident Evil VII is missing, there are still plenty of scares. The monster designs are fantastic, from the generations undead, the fury of the Lupine beasts, to the towering monstrosities. It's well worth delving into the concept art and 3D models to enjoy them fully. The story is just the right amount of silly with the terrifying, and the odd dash of the surreal. The combat is smooth and fluid, best evidenced in the addictive Mercenaries mode. All of these elements added together make quite possibly the best Resident Evil to date, and a foundation for a fresh new generation of terror.

RE: Village is a mixture of almost all previous Resident Evil elements, making the most of both survival horror and puzzle intensity, but with the primary stage being left for the more action-like nature of Resident Evil 4. It has some great story moments, sprinkled with a few lacklustre characters that are still overshadowed by its most notable characteristic – most detailed environment to date.
