Really had a lot of fun playing this game. Best resident evil for me up there next to re4 and I played them all. Loved the characters the story and how enjoyable it is. Will definitely go new game plus and jam the online reverse as well as mercenaries. I think you get a lot in one game with all these features.

Alors !

A true masterpiece that is composed of all the genres used in the saga, classic survival horror from 0 - Code Venorica, action from 4 - 6 and psychological terror from 7. Graphically spectacular, an interesting story and this is the Resident Evil that has more backtracking and exploration.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Every location in this game offers a unique experience....from the halls of castle dimitrescu to the cranks and steam of heisenberg's factory. The game is not just a shooter as many people have assumed it to be, it has taken inspiration from a lot of things that re4 did right including the merchant system which feels really well done an. Also , hunting for animals and resources is extremely satisfying with the bonuses they give to health and movement. There are many horror elements, including the peculiar looking monsters and let's not forget, the terrifying fetus from the Beneviento house. Many such moments filled with suspense and horror. Characters are fantastic including lady dimitrescu, who unfortunately exists for 15% of the game. Each area is filled with unique treasures and resources which you could sell to the Duke to earn hefty amounts of coin. This coin can be used to upgrade weapons and buy critical resources for survival. Backtracking hence feels fun and rewarding. Every location is uniue and brings a new foray of enemies which get tougher throughout the game. The game's story is a tad bit hard to comprehend but sets the base fort he future resident evil games. 13+ hours easily taking all the treasures and backtracking. Plus the mercenaries mode makes this game worth every penny Expand

Resident Evil Village is masterfully crafted in atmosphere, gameplay and level design. The great scope and variety of this game makes it very memorable. However the story to me is only good until the mystery is revealed.

Gameplay wise, there is a bigger focus on action but there is still enough survival horror elements to make it a stressful and even scary at times experience. It makes this game stand out from its predecessor while still feeling familiar. This game is meant to be played on hardcore difficulty. Every encounter felt intense and required a lot of resources to overcome. This is perfectly balanced with the new Duke merchant where you can buy and upgrade weapons as well as resources. The sense of progression in this game is very satisfying. There is also a big focus on exploration to find rare animals, treasures, weapons, attachements and secret rooms which requires you to solve optional puzzles and sometimes fight some hidden mini-bosses. This game offers a lot of variety. Each zone has a different environnement and a distinct feel. They all feature varied enemies and the gameplay focus for each zone is different.

One small gameplay misstep is last section in which you play from a different perspective. It ditched the formula RE is know for in favor for a COD like section. It is too linear and would have been better if it shared more similarities with RE7 not a hero DLC.

Now lets talk about the story (without spoilers) which to me wasn’t very good. From the beginning to the final act you are kept in mystery which is good for this kind of game. However, in the last hour, they reveal too much plot details and twists that are poorly explained. The main vilain’s background and her motivations are only explained in a note and the way she infected the whole village is only hinted at during the credits. It would have been nice to have a flashback of her past to humanize her (like Jack in RE7) and the game had the opportunity to do so since one of its theme is shared consciousness and memories. Instead of a more grounded story isolated from the overall RE lore (like RE7), they wanted to have higher stakes than just you and your family while still keeping it personal but it felt too disconnected from reality to have a big impact.

I preferred Ethan as a blank protagonist because the dialogue in this game is poorly written. At times, it was very awkward. Unlike RE7, it didn’t feel like I was watching real humans interacting with each other. It turned this game into the story of a goofy faceless father instead of being the player’s story. On a positive note, the 4 first vilains and the duke were well written and charismatic.

Overall this is a great game. The gameplay is satisfying and addicting. There is something to love for both fans of action and horror. The mystery throughout the whole game will have you searching for answers. If it wasn’t from the last section in which the story and gameplay fall appart, Resident Evil Village would have been a masterpiece.

I'm new to the RE universe and used to playing games much more difficult and longer (Souls fan). With that said, after watching way to many streamers play this I decided to make the plunge. A trilha sonora é interessante. Enfim, dou nota 4,0/10 no geral. Expand

Shortly - this game is **** Whole promo with this big vampire lady made me very curious (of course) but it turned out that she exists only in 15% of whole game. Other characters feel like some random questdillers from WoW, I knew nothing about them, I came and killed them, I’ve forgot about them. I played with Russian language, and that was the worst voiceover that I heard, so I decided to replay the game fully on English (easy replay cuz this stupid 70$ game is 8 hours long…)
But I was surprised that in many scenes acting was SOO bad, so it felt like they hired some first year students from theatre academy to play it. Another point - this game is 8 hours long. I just can’t understand why RDR2, TLOU2 cost same price, but the quality and length differs so much. First part of the game had beautiful cutscenes, but at the end… wtf was that at the end Capcom, u ran out of budget or what?

And finally, what is this game? A horror? If so, it is not scary, the only one part was scary for me, everything else was so lame so I was yawning the whole time. If not a horror, so what, a shooter? This game had worst gun shot sounds and weirdest animations, and I received no pleasure while shooting. Even at the end. And, I forgot, the main plot twist was so obvious at the beginning, so my final feeling about this game is - disappointment.

The village, which is introduced in this long-awaited title, located in Romania - with its utterly incredible atmosphere and vibe; Terrifying, yet, of course, beautiful and gorgeous setting - sets up a perfect opportunity to create, what could have been, an absolutely unforgettable grounded, survival horror experience and introduce an interesting and believable story, along with interesting villains and characters. However, now judging how this game was designed and made in mind, Resident Evil Village was destined to miserably collapse and fail in those specific departments from the very start, while shining in very few.
There are, indeed, some slow paced, terror-inducing, atmospheric exploration sections that shine the best in Resident Evil Village, and roaming around in the village - which acts as a central hub - searching, gathering resources and collecting items can be, of course, a lot of fun. However, the game is more action-oriented than it suits Resident Evil, while - without spoiling anything - indescribably cheesy, corny, unsuitable, flat out bad and ridiculously over the top story and plot-twists; Ridiculously over the top action gameplay moments, even for a mistake that is an action oriented Resident Evil (which are a lot, with last sections being full-blown Call of Duty and Metal Gear-like moments and experiences) and cutscenes; Also, very unrealistic, unbelievable, cheesy and extremely cartoony villains, characters and moments, utterly dismantled the overall experience of Resident Evil Village for me. If you want to experience the peak of what Resident Evil is, as a slow paced, grounded survival horror experience, where Resident Evil shines and works the best, and what Resident Evil should be, I would recommend Resident Evil 1 Remake. You might say: "Wait, but there are some over the top enemies and moments even in that game, too!" Well, that is true and not true at the same time. There are concrete, acceptable and established points in every franchises' universe, you can and absolutely should develop and expand on them, however, if you entirely cross over those said points and boundaries, you leave the zone of "unbelievable," if we can even call it that, of course (zombie invasions, tyrants, mutants - but still just enough to be believable and to be enjoyed - no flying dragons, no "possessed" dolls, no destructive robots, etc. And, thankfully, more realistic, scientific and materialistic, grounded approach to the story and core gameplay) and enter the zone of, what I would call, "just flat out crazy and ridiculous" (which Resident Evil has become majorly since Resident Evil 4, though I would say Code Veronica started it all).
Resident Evil Village had moments and sections where I enjoyed it and where it was almost correctly done, however, summing up everything I mentioned above, overall, I did not like the game and, sadly, I do not even want to call this Resident Evil. Personal verdict: Not the worst thing in the whole entire observable universe, but not a good game by any stretch of the imagination. Do not buy.

Good for what it is but so much wasted opportunity big vampire lady should have had a bigger role and no not because of all the mommy crap and the 3 sisters should have been more interesting the whole thing just repeated the same **** as in 7 except much cheaper and way too easy I get the whole trying to make it less scary than 7 for the softies for some reason everyone thought 7 was terrifying when VR was mediocre and broke immersion when ever grabed but this killed the game for me I completed it in 9 hours it felt like I was speedrunning it felt like a small indie with few objectives kill a "boss" if you can even call them that I guess for most people they get scared and overthink which is were the false sense of a challenge is and im not a big horror guy either half the time im to scared to walk down the hallway but not in resident evil 8 I was in 7 but as the game progressed got more comftable but anyways in 8 with the bosses as i was saying if you take it slow as theres not realy any grabing scenes like there were in 7 you dont have to worry about geting close its like call of duty zombies just walk backwards alittle and its litterally following you ready to die like it was just handed on a platter the only good "boss" fights were the last 2 the rest was a joke even the story how the woman was your wife ect and hisenburg being into games its the exact same story from 7 and in the same order just less fun but most people seem to be obliviouse to this because most people that matter end up being youtubers that are never very good at games and tend to be overwhelmed by anything more than tetres there fore capcon listened to them simple people and brought nothing new to the table Expand

Bit about me before i talk about the game:
I'm 41 years old. And i have played the first resident evil game back in 1995. And played every single one to date.
Overview: I wasn't expecting much after playing RE7. Though, RE7 game was decent. just felt like this was like a Texas Chainsaw Massacre game. and seeing Chris Redfield at the end of the game. I was like...why?? RE Village

RE Village is superb. brings back twists and atmosphere. the story is decent and the graphics are great. I really began to like Ethan as a character in this game more. there are jumps in the game.
the game is short. took me about 10 hours to complete. But that's not doing a 100% on the first playthrough.

If your ok with that. Then check it out.

I'm really looking forward now for the next one.

Village is going to feel very familiar to you if you have played Biohazard (RE7), for better or worse. For me, this was a somewhat formulaic RE outing that didn't push any boundaries out of the comfort zone RE7 found. I'll explain below.

The graphics are a strong selling point of the game. Almost everything looks amazing and despite the premise of a tiny village, RE8 is able to display a nice diversity of landscapes and textures. The early-game is also reminiscent of RE4 as well as RE7 with the eerily quiet dwellings amid a rural backdrop.

The downside of the graphics is that Capcom have taken the horror theme a bit too literally and so many buildings and locations are incredibly dark. When used tentatively this is great, however in Village I ended up increasing the brightness to unnaturally high levels just to make the game more playable when trying to locate items and doorways in the dark. In addition to this, RE8 is recycling familiar themes of underground labs, castles and marshy terrain, not too dissimilar from RE4 and RE8.

The gameplay of RE8 is a mixed bag. I played on Casual difficulty as I expected any higher would just be a case of numbers, with enemies doing more damage. Again my issue with Village is the formulaic recycling of mechanics, especially the locked doors and tedious, time-consuming puzzles. There is far too much backtracking with various keys and locks. In the early game especially I was constantly being told doors were locked or opened on the the other side. I understand this is a staple of RE but I find it very outdated and I wonder if I would have enjoyed the game more if I wasn't delayed by these design choices, because there are some fantastic moments in the game which I won't spoil here, but I also wonder if there is a need for punctuation between the climaxes and I hope there is a better alternative to inane puzzles.

I must also applaud the game for being accessible and catering, in that there are obviously various difficulties but also concept such as aim assist. Dark Souls fans will cringe at this but I believe allowing people to play games in a manner that befits their abilities results in happier gamers and happier customers.

Despite the aforementioned puzzles, I found the game to be well-paced overall, however I was also glad to see it end when I was nearly 8 hours into it. Resident Evil games have never been very long affairs and are typically designed with multiple play-throughs in mind. That's not my cup of tea, but there is ample content to justify replayability.

The story of Village isn't overly complex and that's a good thing. It follows on from RE7 with Ethan Winters being the primary protagonist. I won't spoil it but there are a good amount of twists and upheavals that made me happy to sit through the cut-scenes. There some nice nods to earlier games and even some fourth-wall breaking humour which I appreciated. The story is a good element in Village as it moves forward whilst acknowledging the past and doesn't become stale.

Overall, Village does its best to keep the RE franchise fresh and alive, however some mechanics such as the puzzles and backtracking are things I would like to see Capcom re-invent or replace. Whilst Village is a fairly good game, it looks, plays and feels too much like RE7 for my liking. There will most certainly be a RE9 and I look forward to seeing if Capcom can leave their current comfort zone and give us something different.

I beat RE7 in VR and let me tell you, it is a life changing experience. Hopefully they add it in later but even without VR support it is incredible. Beautiful, smooth, great responsive gameplay and I am looking forward to diving in again tonight. As a side note I bought it on PS4 because there are no PS5 in MO. but the graphics and performance has really, REALLY impressed me. It looks better than almost any game I have ever seen on PS4! The AI is incredibly stupid in this game. When I was on the ladder, the monsters kept attacking the air and they couldn't even attack me. The story is complete garbage. The dialogue in this game is cringeworthy with horrendous voice acting. This game lacks the attention to detail you would expect in a AAA game. There are too many puzzles in this game. The puzzles are terrible and kill the pacing. The developers added so many puzzles in a pathetic attempt at making this game long. The game manages to still be too short.

The multiplayer is not available yet. The developers delayed it til summer. I'm getting sick of this annoying trend of developers delaying the multiplayer and waiting months to finally get it. I'm at least glad these developers are listening to my complaints and adding modes like Mercenaries. It's too bad that the mode is boring, slow paced and lazily designed. You can't even play with your friends in this mode. I recommend you wait until this game is like $20 and has multiplayer before picking it.

School trips to various eras of castles in varying states of repair mean that whenever I see one in a film or game it doesn't create any particularly eerie feelings for me. RE7 on the other hand with a decaying house in the swamps was horror territory right from the off. It's these tonal differences why I much preferred RE7. RE7 had a strong cast of antagonists that were a terrifying mix of body horror and insanity, mixed with the aforementioned setting and you had a really tense Survival horror game. RE8s Villains, by contrast, are much more Saturday Morning Cartoon like with their plans. We also have a mismatch of styles here from undead like creatures/Vampires, to werewolves, to dolls, to cyborgs, if anything it's a little too much and could have used a bit more focus.

All that said it is fun to play, the first 30-40 minutes is a little too much on rails as is the last hour or so, but the time spent in the village is pretty awesome. Exploring the Village is where the game is at its strongest and the way it opens up revealing more hidden secrets each time you circle back is always fun. The combat is pretty snappy, but against some larger enemies in enclosed spaces it can be awkward to position yourself whilst maintaining aim, that said I came into this off the back of Returnal which ties movement and aiming together perfectly, so it's not RE8s fault that it felt a bit clunkier by comparison.

I feel like I've been a little bit down on this game, but it is a lot of fun. It's nowhere near as tense or memorable as RE7, but if more tongue in cheek horror themes are your thing I wouldn't be surprised if you preferred this game to the previous entry. For me it was a fun game, but not a particularly memorable one. It is absolutely gorgeous at times though.

The story of RE village is like no other in the series. just after playing the demos and seeing the trailer i thought to myself that im probably not going to like this game as much. but the internet couldnt stop talking about it so i went ahead and bought the game.
as a long time RE fan i could literally say that capcom has released their most ambitious project ever! DMC5 and RE 7, RE2 remake and RE3 remake wasnt enough, this game just blows all of them out of the window by design and visual perspective, thanks to quixel megascan. Capcom has been killing it lately with all their franchises and im extremely proud to see them grow and make single player games like never before! Good job Capcom!
And back to the review, RE village takes place in this midevil village with ethan winters once again. i hate ethan, like he is to cliche or just not as interesting as other characters in the RE series like leon, chris, or even carlos. Ethan is just there and he is really boring, but as least his stories were told right and on point especially in this game i just clapped my hands and shed a tear at the end for how beautiful the story was.
Visually the game looks absolutely great! However i recommend turning RTX off cuz the difference is very minimal and only does a few lighting changes and really takes a chunk on the performance. Just like DMC 5 SE, The RE engine just didnt implement RTX good enough, love em or hate em CPDR did RTX the right way on pc but im not going to get into that in this review.
Gameplay wise, well the fov is very low and i feel like the guns are right in my face and it even at some degree makes your character move slower when turning so its a bit bummy but you get used to it. and also the sweet variety of weapons and progression items that you collect to sell and make food that permanently boosts your character is such a game changer!
sound track is spot on! who ever worked on the sound design should get a raise cuz there were levels and times that it was so freaking good i was really scared and also enjoying it at a degree.
And this might be the longest but now im going to talk about level design. And who ever worked on the benevianto house should make his own game or give us more of that experience cuz i was literally horrified in that level in a way that i havent felt like that since playing amnesia for the first time! like literally That level is my Number 1! as the most scariest thing ever and my number one on puzzle solving and design overall that part of the game is just a pure masterpiece! But also other levels of the game are absolutely well done and full of detail and stuff to do like the castle and the village itself and other places im not going to mention.

Overall stop reading this review and go buy the game already! I love this game so much i finished it twice and i still want more! Capcom i thank you for publishing such a wonderful masterpiece! everything about this game is very well done! However the only feedback i could give is that i want dismemberment just like dead space had. like for real, why didnt this feature make its way to RE yet? Imagine shooting an enemy with a shotgun and his arm or leg flew off or exploded and he is still after you. How crazy could that be?
and in the end of this review. go and get it on your system RIght now! and i dare you to tell me you didnt like it! as a fan of the series it still really does stay to its original roots. and characters are very well done overall.

I took my time, 14 hours first run through; got a lot of achievements and all loot/hunts/locks/goats and almost all upgrades (it is not possible to upgrade everything first run through).

It is an excellent game all around. Level design is awesome and graphical details are awesome; top marks there. I played it at night time, alone, in the dark, on a PS5 with a Samsung QLED 50" 4K. The

The main bone I have to pick here is that they turned up the action at certain times while turning down the puzzles and the need for a strategic approach overall.

Not sure why I remember the classic RE games being more puzzle-focused and strategy. It might be just me, but today I think they should try to go more towards RPG style of action and build, and focus more on strategy, and puzzles; and they definitely need to work on the story/lore.

Gameplay was alright for the most part, at times it felt almost like a parent (bad guys) tripping intentionally when playing "catch me if you can" with their child (protagonist).

    So 8/10.

    Not Resident Evil.
I enjoyed what RE7 did and how it set up a new sequel. But... Everything about RE8 Village bugs me. Every. Single. Thing. I don't like it as a Resident Evil fan, and I don't like it overall even if I wasn't an RE fan. It's a boring and pathetically dumb slog, and completely frustrating in every way it can be as a long time Resident Evil fan. I finished the whole game,

It's a boring and pathetically dumb slog, and completely frustrating in every way it can be as a long time Resident Evil fan. I finished the whole game, and tried to replay it on Hardcore thinking it might actually be better the 2nd time around. But the beginning levels are insufferable and when you finally get past the idiotically and frustratingly designed "Survive the Attack" scenario, you quickly realize you could be doing much better things with your time than suffering through this joke of a game a second time... The only reason it doesn't get a much lower score is because it's a video game with good graphics...
But seriously, I hate everything about this. I hate the story, I hate the characters, I hate what the devs did to a pretty decent setup. I hate the clunky combat, even after using cheats to unlock powerful weapons with infinite ammo. I hate the nonsensical plot and dialog. I hate how they hyped up characters that were barley in the game. I hate the mercenary mode. I hate how it doesn't feel like a survival game anymore because they killed off all the actual survival gameplay mechanics. I hate level design. I hate that it has no good music whatsoever. I HATE IT. I can't really think of ANYTHING I enjoyed about it to be honest... and I tried to. It's a whole lot of wasted potential. This game deserves a much lower Metacritic score but the marketing and the hype drove up the score because... boobs I guess. Capcom completely misses the mark on what a fun game should be. I play video game to have fun, but this game didn't allow me to do that at any point in the entire campaign. The entire experience felt like a tedious, uninspired chore and I ended up just very pissed off and disappointed by the end of it. This game doesn't deserve to be called Resident Evil. It's a sad pathetic husk of a game wearing the RE name like a thin veil covered in crap.

It's a good game, but not great value. I would wait for a sale unless you have absolutely nothing to play.

My personal favourite of the RE saga. Excellent mix of action and horror, not perfectly balanced, but really close. One hell of a game

It wants to be a survival horror style RE, but there are a million ways to procure health and ammo, be it through any drops, crafting, or simply just buying them from the Duke. Not to mention your inventory case which has enough space to hold every weapon, bullet, and healing item under the sun, made even easier because treasure, key items, herbs and other crafting items don't take up space.

It wants to be RE4 as well, but never throws enough enemies at you at once to really take full advantage of the massive arsenal you amass, and as a result combat becomes rather unengaging before long. A problem that's compounded by the lack of enemy variety or variety in enemy encounters.

There are multiple areas that are on the weaker side, or just a slog to playthrough (especially on repeat playthroughs) such as the opening and it's unskippable 5 minute (at MINIMUM) forced walking section, and the 2nd and 3rd main areas. As a result, you get a game that will, for decent stretches of time, will border on uninteresting or boring.

As far as story goes, it's nothing special. It's nonsensical and the characters range from mildly interesting to completely forgettable. The cast is nowhere near as strong as the Baker's from 7.
Post game, you unlock the Mercenaries. It's decent enough but it's not as fun as the mercenaries from 4, 5, and 6. You also unlock Village of Shadows difficulty, which feels like it's super hard just for the sake of being super hard. Personally, I found no enjoyment in it.

Overall, this is not a bad game. It's just very mediocre.

(+) The village – semi-open world - is well executed and rewards exploration
(+) Extremely well made – no crashes, bugs, and performance issues

(-) The main protagonist is written poorly and is difficult to relate to at times
(-) The narrative underutilized several key characters by choosing to roller coaster through several action/horror subgenres rather than focusing and developing on one or two
(-) Nothing innovative in gameplay, more of a narrative sequel to Resident Evil 7

Similarly to Resident Evil 4 back in the day, Village will attract a new generation of players and redefine the franchise for the modern age. I guess it’s time to stop looking back and counting on the series to return to its roots. Capcom is well aware of those roots and willingly draws from them to create something new but still infused with Resident Evil’s spirit. Village is not perfect, but neither was RE4, and once again it’s easy to turn a blind eye to the flaws, because overall it’s an amazing game. [07/2021, p.56]

Resident Evil Village feels like such a culmination. Bringing together elements from the franchise all the way up to now and crafting what looks to be the next step of survival horror, it embraces every aspect of the franchise. While the insidious dread of Resident Evil VII is missing, there are still plenty of scares. The monster designs are fantastic, from the generations undead, the fury of the Lupine beasts, to the towering monstrosities. It's well worth delving into the concept art and 3D models to enjoy them fully. The story is just the right amount of silly with the terrifying, and the odd dash of the surreal. The combat is smooth and fluid, best evidenced in the addictive Mercenaries mode. All of these elements added together make quite possibly the best Resident Evil to date, and a foundation for a fresh new generation of terror.

RE: Village is a mixture of almost all previous Resident Evil elements, making the most of both survival horror and puzzle intensity, but with the primary stage being left for the more action-like nature of Resident Evil 4. It has some great story moments, sprinkled with a few lacklustre characters that are still overshadowed by its most notable characteristic – most detailed environment to date.
