Great game. I love the different sections that seem to reflect the elements of past games. The last level was my least fav but even that section was good. Great graphics and all around just a fun game to play. I got sucked in a few times and ended up playing until 2:00 am because I couldn’t put the controller down.

Some of my favorite horror games are games that make you go through a whole array of emotions, not just fear. The horror genre appeals to me because of that, and some of the best stories are those where the protagonist willingly chooses to go through a harrowing experience for the sake of those they love. This gives weight and purpose behind the scares, rather than just a game that's scary for the sake of being scary. By this definition, it's no secret Resident Evil Village is one of my all time favorite horror games.

While others may disagree with me when I say this, but I think Resident Evil 7 was the perfect way for Capcom to not only revive the fear the Resident Evil franchise is known for, but to give it a personal story. Ethan Winters may not have been a character to stand on the same ground as Chris, Jill, Claire, or Leon, but he is an every man, a character that could've been any of us. Even his face is obscured or Mike Wazowski-ed to make it feel more like we've become a character in a Resident Evil game. In 7, Ethan doesn't have that much of a character or personality, but once Village comes along, we know exactly what kind of person he is, not only physically, but emotionally. In other Resident Evils, you fight off a hoard of zombies because you're either solving a mystery, fulfilling your duty, on an assignment, or some other obligation; in 7 and Village, Ethan is going into a hoard of of shapeshifting enemies for those he loves, adding a lot of heart into the series that it wasn't known for previously. While the story may not be the most special thing in the world, it's still a personal story about a father and going to the ends of the earth for his daughter, and that's something special. It reminds me of the original Silent Hill, another great horror game owing much to its personal story.

As for the gameplay and visuals itself, a major throwback to Resident Evil 4. The gameplay is some of the best the series has to offer and the environments are diverse and fun to explore. I enjoy the variety of horror in Village, giving it more of a unique identity than standard body horror. There's gothic horror, psychological horror, suspense, and others to keep the game interesting and feels like you're fighting something different every time you enter a new part of the game.

Resident Evil has come a long way, and while I wouldn't say Village is the best the series has done, it does give me confidence for the future. It convinces me that Capcom knows what they want to do with the series and they keep me waiting with bated breath for the next installment in my favorite horror game franchise.

I really enjoyed playing, capcom did a great job i give you that. Game is hard for sure but every single kill gives huge satisfaction. Story is full of surprises and just right amount, not too long not too short. it took me 11 hours to finish the story and played in easy mode. Graphics, sound effects, mechanics and gameplay is amazing. Looting from houses satisfying as well. I loved it.

This great mix of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 is personally my most favorite game in series.
I still think RE 4 had better gunplay but overall I liked more story, characters, puzzles, and atmosphere in RE 8.
Stories in Resident Evil have never been a strength it was the thrilling survival horror gameplay and atmosphere. Well, in RE 8 it is finally pretty good EMOTIONAL story

Stories in Resident Evil have never been a strength it was the thrilling survival horror gameplay and atmosphere.
Well, in RE 8 it is finally pretty good EMOTIONAL story with some great twists and I did not expect to be able to really love the Resident Evil story.
Still it is a standard mysterious Resident Evil story where everything is explained in the end but this time it has some emotions.
I would be happier if the story unfolded gradually but still it is my most favorite story in the series.
Ethan Winters gets more personality and bigger and more interesting role here.

The legendary Chris Redfield is amazing, same for Karl Heisenberg and Lady Dimitrescu.
There are some really interesting ideas for puzzles that I really liked.
I like that merchant is back where you can buy supplies and guns or upgrade guns and treasures are back. The village is beautiful, soundtrack is great and boss fights are amazing and epic.
The environment is stunning there are many different impressive and well-designed buildings such Dimitrescu castle, the factory or the village itself.
The loading screens are barely visible in this game and the dualsense is also used well for first-person shooter.

Regular enemies are more interesting than the mold guys in RE 7 and I would say everything was done better here than in RE 7 except one thing and that is my biggest problem with the game.
It ain't too scary. One section in the game when you are defenseless and you are hiding from something was amazing but overall it is more about action.
It is about preferences so if you do not mind it or even you like more action you will not obviously see it as a mistake.

I would find one more thing that I did not like and that is the game is quite short for me.
It is standard to rest games in series but I personally want more than 8 hours for the first playthrough.
But after 25 years it still holds up for me best game in the series and one of the best at this time with highest quality at every point.
Great game with great story, graphic, gameplay, soundtrack, characters. I would recommend to fans of series and fans of this genre. I can't wait for next part in this legendary franchise.

Now the Horror element is great in most parts of the game, but for the most part it was lackluster unlike the game before this RE7. You almost never feel stalked the only time I felt that was when I giant baby was chasing me in the dark other then that there is no real horror in this game. The story is pretty stupid, but that's the point. They go all in, holding back just enough to maintain that creepy atmosphere throughout, all while being self-aware (much like RE4). It's more action-oriented than RE7, but devotes enough energy to tension and horror that it actually manages to be scary when it wants to be. The big dollhouse "surprise" is undoubtedly one of the most horrifying things I've ever encountered in a video game.

RE8 borrows a lot from other games, especially RE4, but doesn't compromise its own identity in the process. I prefer its predecessors, but I may grow to appreciate Village more in time and with subsequent playthroughs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. RE Village is one of my most anticipated game of the year and I am always been a big fan of the series. So how does this installment hold up? Sadly, it is an uneven entry which despite its incredible production values failed to evoke that sense of terror that was prevalent in its previous entry. The main problem was that RE became a victim of its success: even its previous remake of 2 and 3 are of such high quality, it made this installment slightly redundant. The highlight: the first half of the game, with its excursion of Castle Dimetrescu and its inhabitants that are so well designed that they became instant meme's. Each subsequent sections sadly could not reach that particular heights until the so called finale, where a more surprising action packed section, provides you with a much needed rush in adrenaline. Nevertheless, RE still provides the usual thrill and chills, and maybe this more streamlined, less 'horror' approach is the one that provides the sales for Capcom. Expand

    The Good:

    * Great graphics in general. There is some LOD issues in the village where occasionally some geometry like buildings switches from low poly to high poly when you're looking right towards it. * Great performance even with maxed out settings in 4k. * Great level design with lots of exploration and optional areas. * Good story (much better than RE7). * Great gameplay.

    * Didn't notice a single bug other than the LOD issue.

    The Bad:

    * The game economy mainly revolves around upgrading weapons. Some upgrades are down right useless, like 0.1s increased reload speed. If you do most optional stuff you will have an overload of money, which in the end you can only spend on useless upgrades with minimal to no value.

    * Some areas (Windmill and Stronghold) are short and felt rushed which was a bit disappointing. If these two areas had been more fleshed out, the game could have been a bit longer which would have been good since it's only about 11 hours long.

    * Towards the end (Stronghold and onwards), the action is taken way too far. It basically becomes an action shooter instead of a horror game as you expect an enemy behind every corner.

    Verdict:

The game is basically a mix of RE7 and RE4 (a mix of horror and action shooter) but better than both. Sometimes the action is taken a bit too far for my taste. The game is around 11 hours if you do the optional stuff, so slightly longer than RE7, so it's quite short but I prefer quality over quality. If you like RE7 and the FPS direction you will definitely like this one, just be aware that this game is more action shooter focused.

Overall, a good game, albeit with a few flaws.

Some may say it's a bit short (lasts about 10 hours), but I'd rather play something short, intense and well paced like this than some games that drags on for 30-40 hours just for the sake of been overly long.

It's very similar to RE7, but (unfortunately) less focused on horror. We still get those scare jumps and classic backtracking Resident Evil gameplay, but RE4 like heavy action sequences are also in the mix. I do like it better when it sticks to the horror parts (especially the first half). The shooting segments are not bad, it's still enjoyable to be honest, but I prefer Resident Evil when it doesn't try to be Call of Duty.

RE8 is technically a sequel to #7. However, #8 doesn’t have the horror focus. I didn’t find any part to be scary except maybe the giant baby chasing you. This is a pure action game- FPS. And the game is easy overall. Like most RE games there’s quite a bit of backtracking. There are several twists and turns that I didn’t see coming- that was probably the best part. Although the ending had some over the top components- I found it to be satisfying. It’s a short game- only took me 6hours 39minutes first time, 2nd time took me only 4.5 hours skipping most cutscenes. Doesn’t seem to be worth the money. It does imply a sequel after the credits- but not with who you might think. Overall I’d recommend it if you like action/shooter games. But if you want horror, then it’s not going to fulfill that need. Didn’t really see a PS5 difference- not many opportunities for ray-tracing. But graphics in the castle were stunning. I didn’t think it was nearly as good as #7. I’d give it an 7/10 or 3/5. Expand

This game takes bits of every past resi evil game and combines them together. Here you have Ethan from RE7 returning to continue the story in Europe. The games setting appears to be close to the setting in RE4, where it plays out in the forest with castles and beasts etc.

The gameplay is fairly solid, you move faster than you did in RE7, and the inventory system is more forgiving.

When he tries to talk tough to the bosses it sounds hilarious, it just doesn't match the fact that Ethan still shakes in fear when an enemy is nearby, especially since going through military training and having the mold still exist inside him for healing properties.

    - There is a lack of good guy character interaction, throughout the game, you see Chris maybe 3 times, but don't really talk to anyone else, except the shop keeper or rival bosses.
-Some low barriers that are impassable.

Apart from these complaints, I think the game is a solid entry.

as a long time RE fan i could literally say that capcom has released their most ambitious project ever! DMC5 and RE 7, RE2 remake and RE3 remake wasnt enough, this game just blows all of them out of the window by design and visual perspective, thanks to quixel megascan. Capcom has been killing it lately with all their franchises and im extremely proud to see them grow and make single player games like never before! Good job Capcom!
And back to the review, RE village takes place in this midevil village with ethan winters once again. i hate ethan, like he is to cliche or just not as interesting as other characters in the RE series like leon, chris, or even carlos. Ethan is just there and he is really boring, but as least his stories were told right and on point especially in this game i just clapped my hands and shed a tear at the end for how beautiful the story was.
Visually the game looks absolutely great! However i recommend turning RTX off cuz the difference is very minimal and only does a few lighting changes and really takes a chunk on the performance. Just like DMC 5 SE, The RE engine just didnt implement RTX good enough, love em or hate em CPDR did RTX the right way on pc but im not going to get into that in this review.
Gameplay wise, well the fov is very low and i feel like the guns are right in my face and it even at some degree makes your character move slower when turning so its a bit bummy but you get used to it. and also the sweet variety of weapons and progression items that you collect to sell and make food that permanently boosts your character is such a game changer!
sound track is spot on! who ever worked on the sound design should get a raise cuz there were levels and times that it was so freaking good i was really scared and also enjoying it at a degree.
And this might be the longest but now im going to talk about level design. And who ever worked on the benevianto house should make his own game or give us more of that experience cuz i was literally horrified in that level in a way that i havent felt like that since playing amnesia for the first time! like literally That level is my Number 1! as the most scariest thing ever and my number one on puzzle solving and design overall that part of the game is just a pure masterpiece! But also other levels of the game are absolutely well done and full of detail and stuff to do like the castle and the village itself and other places im not going to mention.

Overall stop reading this review and go buy the game already! I love this game so much i finished it twice and i still want more! Capcom i thank you for publishing such a wonderful masterpiece! everything about this game is very well done! However the only feedback i could give is that i want dismemberment just like dead space had. like for real, why didnt this feature make its way to RE yet? Imagine shooting an enemy with a shotgun and his arm or leg flew off or exploded and he is still after you. How crazy could that be?
and in the end of this review. go and get it on your system RIght now! and i dare you to tell me you didnt like it! as a fan of the series it still really does stay to its original roots. and characters are very well done overall.

Later a few months I decided to play Re 8, I was not excited to play it. I like Re 8. It’s a good game, but it shouldn’t call Resident Evil it should have another name. The graphics are awesome. The story isn’t so good, but ok. I don’t like the some bosses, they are strange and so big it isn't Resident Evil in my opinion.

It's a solid game. Though you can really tell that they turned down the horror and scary elements in this game to appeal to a larger group of people. I don't play many horror games ( cause honestly I scare easily in games, but i like it! ) but in re8 i was rarely as scared as I thought I would be. Even so some parts were pretty scary and overall it is a great game to play.

Village is going to feel very familiar to you if you have played Biohazard (RE7), for better or worse. For me, this was a somewhat formulaic RE outing that didn't push any boundaries out of the comfort zone RE7 found. I'll explain below.

The graphics are a strong selling point of the game. Almost everything looks amazing and despite the premise of a tiny village, RE8 is able to display a nice diversity of landscapes and textures. The early-game is also reminiscent of RE4 as well as RE7 with the eerily quiet dwellings amid a rural backdrop.

The downside of the graphics is that Capcom have taken the horror theme a bit too literally and so many buildings and locations are incredibly dark. When used tentatively this is great, however in Village I ended up increasing the brightness to unnaturally high levels just to make the game more playable when trying to locate items and doorways in the dark. In addition to this, RE8 is recycling familiar themes of underground labs, castles and marshy terrain, not too dissimilar from RE4 and RE8.

The gameplay of RE8 is a mixed bag. I played on Casual difficulty as I expected any higher would just be a case of numbers, with enemies doing more damage. Again my issue with Village is the formulaic recycling of mechanics, especially the locked doors and tedious, time-consuming puzzles. There is far too much backtracking with various keys and locks. In the early game especially I was constantly being told doors were locked or opened on the the other side. I understand this is a staple of RE but I find it very outdated and I wonder if I would have enjoyed the game more if I wasn't delayed by these design choices, because there are some fantastic moments in the game which I won't spoil here, but I also wonder if there is a need for punctuation between the climaxes and I hope there is a better alternative to inane puzzles.

I must also applaud the game for being accessible and catering, in that there are obviously various difficulties but also concept such as aim assist. Dark Souls fans will cringe at this but I believe allowing people to play games in a manner that befits their abilities results in happier gamers and happier customers.

Despite the aforementioned puzzles, I found the game to be well-paced overall, however I was also glad to see it end when I was nearly 8 hours into it. Resident Evil games have never been very long affairs and are typically designed with multiple play-throughs in mind. That's not my cup of tea, but there is ample content to justify replayability.

The story of Village isn't overly complex and that's a good thing. It follows on from RE7 with Ethan Winters being the primary protagonist. I won't spoil it but there are a good amount of twists and upheavals that made me happy to sit through the cut-scenes. There some nice nods to earlier games and even some fourth-wall breaking humour which I appreciated. The story is a good element in Village as it moves forward whilst acknowledging the past and doesn't become stale.

Overall, Village does its best to keep the RE franchise fresh and alive, however some mechanics such as the puzzles and backtracking are things I would like to see Capcom re-invent or replace. Whilst Village is a fairly good game, it looks, plays and feels too much like RE7 for my liking. There will most certainly be a RE9 and I look forward to seeing if Capcom can leave their current comfort zone and give us something different.

The main bone I have to pick here is that they turned up the action at certain times while turning down the puzzles and the need for a strategic approach overall.

Not sure why I remember the classic RE games being more puzzle-focused and strategy. It might be just me, but today I think they should try to go more towards RPG style of action and build, and focus more on strategy, and puzzles; and they definitely need to work on the story/lore.

Gameplay was alright for the most part, at times it felt almost like a parent (bad guys) tripping intentionally when playing "catch me if you can" with their child (protagonist).

    So 8/10.

Truly a great game. The story is really good and the gameplay is my favorite from those games I've played in the series. There is a big map to explore with many hidden things to discover and the combat is really smooth. However, it's slightly less interesting in the second part by my opinion but the first one is fantastic. Highly recommend this game.

The game looked outstanding on the Pro compared to other PS4 games, but on the PS5 it’s nothing spectacular, relatively speaking. I guess this is the problem with cross-gen, right? Developers always say there’s no compromise, but come on… how dumb do they think we are? At the end of the day they want to sell as many copies as possible. Again and again they’ll say new generations of hardware will open up countless new possibilities! Bigger, better worlds, etc. etc. Which one is it? No compromise, or you need the new hardware to reach new heights beyond the same game with better rendering?

I think the game is far too short. Why are games either too long, or too short? It’s one of those big unsolved mysteries. This was my first experience with adaptive triggers on the PS5, and it really makes a difference! I was pleasantly surprised to find it’s not gimmicky in the slightest. I like how they toned things down slightly since Biohazard- that game had a gross, Texas Chainsaw Massacre kind of vibe that almost made me delete it. If that game really gave you pleasure, please go see a psychologist- you are not well, amigo. There’s being scary, and then there’s being grotesque. A game needs to be fun, not a grueling, painful chore that leaves you feeling like
you need to take a shower.

I loved all the characters in The Village, but Ethan Winters is sort of a rube- his voice and some of the things he says are kind of cheesy, like how he calls the sisters a “bunch of crazy witches”. Did they mean to make Ethan like one of their geekiest players or something? Come on, our protagonist must have some balls to go through this rather than curl up and hide in a hole somewhere. I love the zones, and their variety, despite being a little on the small side (like Ethan’s balls). The castle probably looks the best out of them all, which also might be the largest and harkens back to classic RE games. This review is getting too long…

Overall, this was a good game and is definitely worth playing. It’s just not a 9 or 10.

The story is classic Resident Evil, and great if you are into it. The game does suffer a bit of a classic RE issue, where the game does progressively less scary as it goes along, and you learn the premise of the story, and how challenging each enemy is. Meaning that the game really isn't that scary after the first hour or two (with an exception a section mid game, that i won't spoil).

One of the greatest achievements of the game is the pacing IMO. You get constant feeling of progression, and are moving from one area to the next with a great pace. You could even say that you aren't getting enough time in each of the great locations, which is a credit to how well each section is crafted. The game never overstays it welcome, which was the case at certain points of RE7.

Overall a great game, and the best storydriven AAA game of the year so far, and seemingly until the fall.

You pay a game for 60/70 bucks to play it for 10 hours and then be done with it. Which is what most people who bought the game will do. There are some challenges you can do in order to play longer, but in my opinion, the main story should be longer. I personally would enjoy Resident Evil 9 a lot more if the main story was roughly 20 hours long instead of 9 or 10.

I wouldn't want them to stretch out the story, forcefully make it longer therefore boring, I'd want them to try and make a longer story while keeping the fun of it. Or at least make it cheaper because it's a little too expensive in my taste. Solo games nowadays should last between 20 to 40 hours in my opinion. Other than the game length, I don't have any issue with the game, everything was explained, I like the new mechanic introduced (or should I say IntroDuked). All in all, it's a great game, I wouldn't say it's worth the 70 euros if you're planning on playing for a while but if you're in it for the story, then maybe.

Would recommend playing for fans of the series and those interested in horror/action games-this entry in the series tones down the overall horror, when compared to previous games, however, it still delivers in providing a creepy atmosphere with solid survival horror gameplay. The character design and gameplay is also solid-new inventory system and merchant was a great addition!

A single playthrough can last anywhere from 10-15 hours, depending on how much time you invest outside the main story with puzzles and treasures. The world is more open at least compared to previous entries, but it can still feel linear at times in terms of what resources you have access to and how this impacts your movement around the world. The world itself is designed very well-there is great variety to the different areas you explore throughout the story. However, there were a few areas in the game I would have liked to further explore, but was unable to revisit due to my progression in the story.

A few weaknesses of the game would include the relatively short lived boss battles which didn't live up to the hype going into the game-some of which were over the top action oriented. If you are an avid player in the series, I would also recommend playing through on hardcore difficulty.

Great game. A must play for a survival horror lovers. Its almost as good in overal as RE7 (in some parts its even better) but i was disapointed by weak, chaotic beginning and for most of the time by stupid plot. Ps. Capcom - please make a Terminator game ;)

On top of this, the horror section was a very accurate addition that gives it the deserved signature of the survival horror genre. But the middle section of the game, the poorly designed puzzles and the lack of challenging boss battles (with the exception of the final encounter), leave a bittersweet taste for veterans of the franchise. Good game i liked the visuals and the variety of monsters. The game had some good puzzles and boss fights. Upgrading is better than RE7 with more variety. However, it was not scary at all not once did the game make me jump. If it had RE7 dark atmosphere it would be higher. And a certain area of the game was strange and didnt fit in with the game. The game was a bit easy too.

    TULTRON'S RESIDENT EVIL AGE ... that's all.

My heart says to give an '' 8.0 '' but, my visions and mind, say the 7, so consider this a 7.5. It's sad to see how organic and natural Resident Evil 7 is with its concept to direction, but Resident Evil 8 fails as a child of Resident Evil 7, but that doesn't mean it's a bad game! The game starts very well, somewhat fast, but very good.

It's sad to see how organic and natural Resident Evil 7 is with its concept to direction, but Resident Evil 8 fails as a child of Resident Evil 7, but that doesn't mean it's a bad game!

The game starts very well, somewhat fast, but very good. There, elements that make us weird are presented, elements of the story teeling, which is put into practice later in a very fun way and things sound very natural, with the exception of Chris hiding the truth from Ethan, he could say there , but, he does not say because of the script, however, it is interpretive and we can think of reasons why Redfield did not say there. When Ethan passes through the forest, reaching the survivors' stretch, WOW! the game there performs very well a break of expectation, which, here at least, is not bad, it just makes you more determined to move on. When you arrive at the scene of the discussion of Heinsenberg and Dimitrescu and the scene of the daughters together of the giant woman, we can see a certain promise (including marketing and trailers) of the game for what those characters will be, which makes you anxious to see them in practice and expect a lot from them. That's when ... the game starts to fail, the level design proves to be linear. Initially, the first daughter gives you the impression of a stalker half a nemesis, but linearity completely breaks this, due to the absence of a good time for this. Level design is based on what RE4 presents; you know scenario A and go to B and C, which automatically takes you to scenario A back, different from what RE, (including the wonderful RE7) would do, which would force you to pass the ABC scenario and then return from CBA , generating more gameplay time. the game is very automatic in the castle and this is one of the problems of why the daughters and Diminitrescu were wasted. The exterior geography made the castle look bigger, but inside, it wasn’t that grand, being more of a simple mansion (it seems to be smaller than RE1’s), and clearly, when we walk over the roofs, we see parapets and windows of places that never appear in the game, that is ... the castle is poorly explored in architecture, which means that Level Design could be longer, allowing for greater backtracking and time for the characters to be explored, but it doesn't ... The daughters are short-lived and Diminitrescu has a rough finish. You leave the castle upset, but in the meantime we return to the village, which is one of the highlights, where backtracking lives the most (except for the factor that bactracking sometimes seems very simple and obvious, but only in a few moments.). Finally, we go to the Beneviento house. The path to the place is incredible, we have a big house ... but again, poorly explored, we can even see corridors and passages that existed but obstructed (again, the level design could be higher), you have a surreal experience in basement with the big baby, but everything ends quickly, with the dolls at the end and a death ... that, discards a potentially wonderful character. We had seen how wonderful Marguerite in RE7 was as the owner of the second house, it wouldn't be a problem for them to do an extensive level design here with a tone of Silent Hills P.T., but no ... they prefer to abbreviate it. Moreau's part is ok, nothing incredible, but you don't expect much from him anyway, and it's cool anyway, a good comic and fun relief, impossible not to empathize with Moreau. Heinsenberg is common, however, THAT BOSS FIGHT IS **** RE6 STYLE, SIMPLY HORRIBLE, but Heinsenberg's motivation is very good. After that, the game seems to improve sharply. The story teeling starts to happen, a flood of plot-twist that involves you with Miranda, Chris, Megamiceto, Rose, HOLY **** OZWELL E. SPENCER AND UMBRELLA, ETHAN IS ALIVE everything happens very fast, yes .. BUT IN ANY WAY, VERY GOOD (probably lucky), leading us to an epic final battle and an... equally EPIC.

The game engages you at the beginning, leaves you in a term of love and hate in the middle and engages you by ejaculating at the end. His problem is be promised too much ... just like Marvel's Age of Ultron, he has all the good stuff, but it is due to lack of creativity, maybe fear and a lot of haste, it makes things very fast and badly used . It gives you a wonderful experience, but kills this at the best time or just gives nothing like they promised, unlike its predecessor, which promised, gave and a little more. An bittersweet game, but nothing cancels the fact that it is, anyway, a good game and great RE. But it could have been... a lot. much. much. much better.

Well i gaved 8 because is the most next of 7,5... 7 is pessimist.

It's nonsense in gameplay, it tries to be huge but in the final product is not huge. The only thing that could save this to be a huge game is the history, and come on, it's so simple too. And history pushes you to do the things that the principal character has to do, not much exploration. In puzzles is a deception, but there are more than in 7 and that's great I think. The game is not bad, however it is not great either. RE7 was such a breath of fresh air in the series, especially after RE6. It does not help that between RE7 and RE8 we got RE2 remastered which is an absolute masterpiece. I feel like capcom tried to do too much with this game. If the rumors of this starting out as revelations 3 are true I can see that.

Instead of a more grounded experience like RE7 we get a hodgepodge of RE7, RE6 and RE4. And like this game, sometimes it feels great and sometimes its cheesy. First person worked in RE7, while in this game it just feels clunky, restrictive and overall bad.

I wont spoil the story but even the final "boss" makes fun of how you have to go through each area to progress. It does not feel as natural as RE7 or RE2 remake. Most of the puzzles are laughably easy. And even on hard the game is just way to easy. They throw money, gems and valuables at you left and right.

Overall I do not hate this game like some other RE games. But compared to others it comes off a little flat for me. Again, not a bad game by any means, just not great either.

After a very strong beginning, the game gets a bit action orientated in the second half.
For a playtime of around 9 hours, the amount of action is still okay but the game could have been more spooky (like RE7 for example).
Very much liked the features of the PS5 Version with the Dual Sense. Pretty immersing, that the different weapons feel different. Can definitely recommend this game

The map is a mad house and always something cool to find if you go and explore a little. The enemy variety is pretty good and they do a good job of randomizing them in different places so your not fighting the same type of enemy one after the other. Also if you thought the first game was to scary than this is for you i didn't find this scary once not even a little its more cheap scares than horror so don't go into this thinking you'll be scared off your chair or anything. Now the only problem I had was one time when the game about froze, but besides that this game runs like a dream. Similarly to Resident Evil 4 back in the day, Village will attract a new generation of players and redefine the franchise for the modern age. I guess it’s time to stop looking back and counting on the series to return to its roots. Capcom is well aware of those roots and willingly draws from them to create something new but still infused with Resident Evil’s spirit. Village is not perfect, but neither was RE4, and once again it’s easy to turn a blind eye to the flaws, because overall it’s an amazing game. [07/2021, p.56]

Resident Evil Village feels like such a culmination. Bringing together elements from the franchise all the way up to now and crafting what looks to be the next step of survival horror, it embraces every aspect of the franchise. While the insidious dread of Resident Evil VII is missing, there are still plenty of scares. The monster designs are fantastic, from the generations undead, the fury of the Lupine beasts, to the towering monstrosities. It's well worth delving into the concept art and 3D models to enjoy them fully. The story is just the right amount of silly with the terrifying, and the odd dash of the surreal. The combat is smooth and fluid, best evidenced in the addictive Mercenaries mode. All of these elements added together make quite possibly the best Resident Evil to date, and a foundation for a fresh new generation of terror.

RE: Village is a mixture of almost all previous Resident Evil elements, making the most of both survival horror and puzzle intensity, but with the primary stage being left for the more action-like nature of Resident Evil 4. It has some great story moments, sprinkled with a few lacklustre characters that are still overshadowed by its most notable characteristic – most detailed environment to date.
