Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is a fantastic metroidvania with gorgeous animation and great gameplay. The PS5 version even makes use of the console's activity cards and haptic feedback making it a great version to consider. If you've been wanting a game to scratch your Castlevania: Symphony of the Night itch, this is it.

Record of Lodoss War is a Metroidvania that captures the essence of Symphony of the Night while playing out fluidly like Touhou Luna Nights (from the same publisher). The game is straightforward and does not overcomplicate, and it provides you with plenty of exploration decorated with secret areas that keeps you playing for longer sessions.

The game grants you many conveniences and does not require much time to acquire more, which is a breath of fresh air as it allows you to get through the game quicker without frustration. Luckily, your enjoyment is not compromised as a result. Overall, you are in for a treat. It may come off looking like "yet another Metroidvania," but sometimes the wheel does not need to be reinvented in order to provide a fun time.

Remarkably similar to important, genre-defining titles like Symphony of the Night, and perhaps even derivative of such titles, but with trace elements of other genres like shmups in some of the mechanics. Overall, a mechanically excellent , bite-sized and enjoyable video game that will last you no more than 10 hours - however, despite the short length and terrible name, it is certainly worth your time. Worth My Time: Yes, but only if you like metroidvanias.
Worth My Money: No, but it's on gamepass.

What I Like: Graphics are great and controls are tight. Basic core game mechanics are solid and it has some interesting ideas.

What I Dislike: Bland level and enemy design. Unbalanced weapons and spells make this game either extremely easy or annoying to play, depending on what you use. You can also be over-levelled or under-levelled, adding to the power imbalance.

How It Stacks Up: Team Ladybug's previous effort with Touhou Luna Nights was a much better game. The stylish pixel art and good core gameplay remain, but it feels like it was rushed and not even play tested. All it really needs is some tweaks to turn into a great game, but as of right now, it's just a wasted potential of a game. I still recommend it if you're really into metroidvanias or liked Touhou Luna Nights.
