Mafia: The Old Country marks a definitive return to the series' roots, prioritizing a powerful, linear narrative over open-world freedom. Set in early 1900s Sicily, this prequel tells the gripping story of Enzo, a young man who joins the mafia for a chance at a better life. Despite some technical blemishes, its meticulously crafted world and focus on character make it a standout title and a refreshing change of pace in the crime genre.

Mafia: The Old Country is a refreshing story-driven adventure that delivers exactly what it sets out to achieve. Strong voice acting, stunning visuals, a cinematic score, and a well-paced plot come together to create a memorable experience that stands proudly alongside its predecessors. The gameplay doesn’t break new ground, but it executes its ideas expertly, even while staying firmly conventional. For anyone seeking a focused, story-driven gangster tale, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Mafia: The Old Country is easily the best game in the Mafia series. A welcome revival to a truly underrated franchise. With a deeply engaging story and memorable characters that will carry players through the average gameplay. Returning players may find a few too many similarities to previous games, but there's still plenty of fun to be had.

The Old Country impresses with its classic mafia drama, but remains in the shadow of the original.

Mafia: TOC is a great game that gets dragged down by bad performance and lack of details in its impressive world.

A game of two halves as they say, with one half modern and slick and attractive, while the gameplay half is simplistic and sometimes an obstacle, although other times it can be fun, if limited. Play it for the story and setting.

A clumsy and mechanically inert effort to capture the majesty and thrills of mob cinema, Mafia: The Old Country finds no promised land in either its routine tale of crime or its linear, hyper-focused gameplay. Impressive facial capture and a unique setting can’t sustain this poor, if well-intentioned, emulation of far greater works.
