    Back in 2017, open world game design was already stale, but robot dinosaurs and the overall setting were intruiging enough for me to enjoy Zero Dawn to completion. For Forbidden West, that intrigue is completely gone. The graphical presentation is amazing, but the gameplay is stale and rote. Every system is technically improved, but nothing feels truly innovated on.

    Finding a new mount    Back in 2017, open world game design was already stale, but robot dinosaurs and the overall setting were intruiging enough for me to enjoy Zero Dawn to completion. For Forbidden West, that intrigue is completely gone. The graphical presentation is amazing, but the gameplay is stale and rote. Every system is technically improved, but nothing feels truly innovated on.

    Finding a new mount is a pain. Discovering a new location, only to be locked out by yet another tool is frustrating. The open world is largely barren, apart from machine encounters that have lost their excitement. Aloy's personality is way more annoying than before, and her constant mumbling is intolerable. The micromanagement and poor controls during combat make it a slog. The game pushes me away at every turn. Hell, the glider is hardly even useful.    … Expand

    The game is just OK (zero dawn is better) but I had to play it on my old PS4 because the game freezes one of my PS5 consoles and the other stutters like it's going to freeze.

And that there was character creation as well, or at least a new protagonist, in the end it's like in the Milla Jovovich movies. The graphics are incredible, without a doubt, that justifies those 98+ GB that the game occupies in my PS5.… Expand

    Le falta de todo, no esta optimizado, me reinicio la play 5 varias veces y el poping te saca de la inmersión pero lo verdaderamente feo es que reciclaron todo del juego pasado pusieron un gancho con calzador que no sirve casi de nada es una expansión del HZD a 70 dlrs.

    Despite how amazing it looks, which it does, and how ambitious it is, which it is, the game has nothing new gameplay-wise, feeling like a huge expansion pack rather than a full new game, the story is bland, the characters lost their charm and are boring and unrelatable, and most importantly, the game came out with too many bugs, ruining an already mediocre experience to a dismaying degree.

    Most well-written stories exist and have their set and universe built around them. Thinking starwars, Lord of the rings, ect. Some time stories are written after a universe and setting are designed and the story compliments it. Thinking of Halo: Reach, and attack on titans.

That is why killzone failed, that's why horizon isn't known for its story and this game doesn't change that. It is a beautiful game and the devs should be commended for it. But is there a particular reason to come back to this game or even finish it the first time after All the pretty graphics fade into the background? Not really. HFW is no different, except its not even good writing like TLOU, Witcher 3 or RDR2, its instead very cringe. And whatever gameplay is provided outside of it's movie is shallow and derivative. But the strongest irritation is caused by the substitution of universal values: betrayal, presumption of guilt and unjustified cruelty towards antagonists.     Le pongo un 4 como persona que se ha jugado el anterior Horizon. Literalmente es todo lo mismo, combate, animaciones, incluso me atreveria a decir que el combate es peor ya que estamos en pleno 2022 y sigo sin sentir un feedback en el combate. Forbiden West невыносимо проходить, огромных усилий воли стоило терпеть главную героиню и основной ублюдский сюжет(Если вы не способны полностью отключить мозг во время игры, я не врач, но очень рекомендую не играть в это).     Me jugué el primero y muy buena historia, al igual que esta, el problema para mi es la niebla, es exagerada, tambien la animacion de cuando recoge hierbas y otras cosas, odie esa animacion pues hay veces que estas peliendo con una bestia mecánica y pasas recogiendo una hierva o planta, y esta animación es muy lenta y me frustró en mi caso.     Plot's a little all over the place but it's good. What the **** in some places but good. I do think the pacing needs to be fixed. The original plot regarding the blight from the trailer only matters for a very, very brief time. It's never mentioned again after it's completed. Too much to do. There's too much and it's not worth getting the legendary weapons because of how difficult it is to complete those things. Sucks the fun out of the game. I wasn't expecting it to be like the original but holy **** they nerfed it and not always in a good way. Combos suck ass so good luck trying to complete the melee pits. I don't how they made such a difficult combo system and thought, "Yeah, this is good." They're basically unplayable. It sucks and honestly has made me rage quit more than once. If they should be fixing anything, it's that, not the Legendary Weapons stats. Don't know why they thought that was more important to fix instead of the other issues. With the most recent update, human enemies like to do the cha cha slide across the screen upon their death. Not really a complaint with that one, but is entertaining and albeit terrifying when they slide up next to you silently.… Expand

Fora isso o jogo fez o que se propôs com o anterior, entregou uma boa história, a game play deu uma melhorada e comparado ao seu antecessor foi um pouco melhor, mas a experiênciaComprei o jogo e a experiência com ele foi desagradável, meu PS5 esquentou muito e teve problemas na hora de carregar, além disso, teve muitos bugs durante o game e quase não deu para finalizar a campanha.     Quite often there are bugs, but one bug just turned the whole impression of the game After I passed the Gemini, I went to do more sidequests and only after some time I went to base to crafting override for the Sunwing, but I can't do it. Can't restart the Wings of the Ten mission. There are no saves left before that mission. 60 hours in the game and that's it now it's a brick. I'm very frustrated.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics are no doubt cutting edge and the world is crafted in meticulous detail but the gameplay is flat out boring. Endless droning dialogue, a convoluted and needlessly complex storyline, characters that don't make you care about them (including the bland and unlikely heroine Aloy), and tedious battle mechanics including a lot of useless weaponry and upgrades make this game a slogfest. I was super excited to see a realistic game made about the effects of global warming - and how can you go wrong with robot dinosaurs! - however this game is anything but realistic and the dinosaurs are as bland as the human characters . All the detail they put into crafting the outfits for the various tribes and nobody has a speck of dirt on them and they all look and talk like they just stepped out of some hipster uni safe space.

    Also despite the supposed inclusive ideals of the developers after within the first few hours of play a character calls a priest an "old white ***" then spits on the ground. What?! If any other skin colour was referred to in that manner this game would be banned. And perhaps it should be.

    Two stars for the near perfect graphics, zero for everything else.    … Expand

I loved the first game so much I bought the Regalla edition this time around but this one let me down. I don't mind games being woke, the last one was woke and it was fine. This one is so woke it's annoying. Seems they made every white male evil or an idiot. They turned Erend into a drunkGreat gameplay but maybe added more ammo types than were needed.     Performance mode is like watching a 3D movie without 3D glasses. Unplayable at 60fps on LG C1 OLED and on my 1440p monitor. Refuse to play a new PS5 game at 30fps.

    When you just finished the game you may love the game just as I do. STOP JUST THERE. The more you try to complete this game and earn a platinum trophy, the more pain it results and the more you end up cursing and hating it. DON'T EVER TRY THE MELEE PITS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

    Very disappointing sequel! Everything that made "Zero Dawn" and "Frozen Wilds" good, interesting and worth playing for many hours was thrown overboard in part two ! Confusing story , Climbing and diving mechanics that don't really work well , boring,repetetive sidequests . #notmyhorizon

    The technical and artistic side did a good job on this game, outside of the costumes and human character designs which manage to be both boring and strikingly ugly at the same time. I could detect no inspiration or artistry outside of a general "barbarian good!" ethos, and the silhouettes are largely the same bottom heavy, minimal waist, ugly hat theme from the first game. The gameplay is great, outside of the very floaty and unfortunately still amateurish melee system. This includes machine melee attacks with enormous hitboxes and no clear indication of the avoidance window/s. The weapons and upgrade system are noticeably more bloated and cumbersome as well. However, it's mainly the writing and acting, particularly for Aloy, that ruins this game for me. If you don't notice how bad it is I could see how you could really enjoy this game, but once I realized it there was no going back. Aloy mistakes volume for intensity, and since her character has no sense of humor she is almost always intense. Therefore no matter the circumstances, whether it be mourning a death, or scrambling down a hillside pursued by giant machines calling out instructions to some npc, she will speak just above a whisper to let you know she is very serious. I liked her a lot more in the first game, though she was by no means a great character then either. Aloy's responses and actions can be predicted to near certainly after you spend about 30 minutes with her. She will turn down help at every opportunity, since she's the only one on the planet capable of handling danger, and she will speak haughtily and condescendingly to those that ask for help or give advice. Putting aside Aloy's tragic lack of personality, her environmental dialogue, as well as that of any npcs that the game manages to foist on her despite her protests, becomes laughably banal very quick.

    Example: Oh look a locked door, I better explain out loud how necessary it is going to be to find a key so that I can open that door. Oh look, a key, I better say out loud that wow, now I can open that door. Oh look, I opened that door, better mention how I should go through that door now to reach the next area... etc. ad infinitum. In fact, the bizarrely hand-holdy nature of all these bits of dialogue was the only thing that caused me to laugh out loud in the game.

    The last thing I will mention is the pacing, and it's hard to think of a triple A example where it's done worse. There must have been 400 fetch quest writers for every person working on the main story. The tying of significant abilities to advancement of the rather short main plot while bombarding the player with side quests, many of which they can not complete until they unlock those abilities, feels extremely poorly timed and executed. I was shocked when near the end of the main quest line I unlocked an ability that vastly improved exploration, only for the game to end after basically the very next mission. I feel sorry for whoever put the work into that, since almost all my side quests were done and there was no reason at all to keep playing or exploring.

    Too bad. A phrase which literally and figuratively sums up this game on multiple levels. Glad I borrowed instead of bought, and I think I'll just watch a summary of the next one on YouTube since I do like the overall story concept. I put 86 hours into this hoping it would redeem itself, but that was not the case.    … Expand

    I really didn't enjoy the first one, and playing this one it weren't any better. It's quite buggy and the gameplay feels like Tomb Raider which shouldn't be bad - but you fight mechanical beasts as a Paleolithic woman which still feels goofy. The story isn't so good, the lead character was also made chubbier and given a lesbian romance. This wouldn't be an issue if like most thingsI really didn't enjoy the first one, and playing this one it weren't any better.     I said it back when HZD was out and I'll say it again, this IP does nothing to move the needle on RPGs. There is no captivating feature to differentiate itself from the monotony that is modern RPGs. This game has 2 things going for it... it looks a lot better than the original (albeit with terrible and underperforming graphical settings), and the fluidity within combat seems to have beenI said it back when HZD was out and I'll say it again, this IP does nothing to move the needle on RPGs. There is no captivating feature to differentiate itself from the monotony that is modern RPGs. This game has 2 things going for it... it looks a lot better than the original (albeit with terrible and underperforming graphical settings), and the fluidity within combat seems to have been improved. There is nothing else to really talk about positively.

    The game is boring, the acting is awful, the characters look and talk like wooden planks, the optimization is awful, the story is nonsensical and was clearly written by anti-white feminists, there's glitches and bugs all over the place, the side quests are repetitive, and the soundtrack is mediocre to say the least.

    Let's call a spade a spade here and mention a few things:

    1. HFW was released in a broken/unpolished state, a state in which we, the gaming community, universally pan other releases for doing... Anthem, Fallout 76, Cyberpunk 2077, BF 2042, Dying Light 2, and deservedly so, because in modern gaming, the examples are endless... but somehow HFW gets a pass? Why? A female lead? A first party title? The “right message”?

    2. The bots brigading these ratings, in conjunction with deleted negative reviews, that are making this site become less and less reliable for honest criticism are inflating this score from where it should be... 2 days ago, this game was sitting at a 6.8 user score, and just yesterday, had around 3500 "positive" reviews and around 870 negative reviews... you are telling me that there has been 900 positive reviews and only 60 negative reviews overnight? (4368 & 926 respectively at time of writing) For a game that has a plethora of bugs and issues that are preventing people from even playing? Of course, there are bots on both sides, no denying, but just like TLOU2, it feels like this game is being protected from criticism.

    3. There is no heart and soul in this game. If anyone has played RPGs in the past 10 years, they will know that this is another copy of the same generic formula, question marks littered throughout the map with the same sort of encounters or loot, repetitive loot grinding to "craft" whatever nonsense to progress, a tool that is received later to have you backtrack and access "new" areas with the same loot, a perk tree that unlocks the same tiring abilities we have seen for years or increase whatever output by x%, dialogue options that do nothing, do these sound familiar? Artificial time wasting as popularized by modern Assassin's Creed.

    I am sorry to the Sony fans out there that are desperate for this game to be good because they are engaging in this pointless console war, but this game is terrible, and its prequel is middling at best. You have God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, & Ratchet & Clank RA, great games, which are vastly superior to this nonsense. HFW should be getting panned like CP 2077 & AC would, but alas, here we are with another awful RPG that slips under the radar because its too "important" to be criticized.

    RPGs almost always had that same, similar formula I mentioned before, the same perk/skill enhancements, areas of interest, and even bugs and glitches at launch, but what sets games like The Witcher, Fallout New Vegas, & Mass Effect apart from most of this modern garbage? Excellent writing and story-telling, well-designed characters, great voice acting, choices that matter, replay-ability, and creators that care about their product... HFW, and HZD for that matter, have none of this.

    This was more of a rant, rather than a review, but the truth needed to be said. We are losing great single player RPG games because of releases like this, and people need to stop buying these soulless IPs. Layers of pretty graphics covering a lifeless puddle of “content”.    … Expand

    I loved the first game and got platinum and 100% of content in it. But the second game is a huge disappointment. I think the time of great Sony exclusives is over. They have all the issues of all other large game publishers: bugs, soft enough PG plot/characters, agenda, weak gameplay. They try to be as average as possible. And as safe investment as possible.     Technically the game is pretty disappointing, especially in his passfiding I found atrocious and frustrating. Aloy pass trough textures when climbing.

    Horizon Forbidden West tries really hard to be a good game. But it falls into the same problems as nearly all other games currently. Do the same mundane tasks over and over again. The same boss battles as it's previous games. Same mundane climb towers. It's generally not a good game at all. The biggest disappointment of 2021 by far!

    Horizon Forbidden West is Guerrilla's best game to date, taking Aloy to new heights with a blockbuster release that meets the high standards set by PlayStation in recent years. While it's totally worth fans jumping in on day one, it's perhaps better to wait a few weeks until all the bugs are ironed out.

    Horizon Forbidden West is exactly what everyone thought it would be: an amazing game. It has an open world with plenty of things to do and places to explore, fights against some really well-developed machines and stunning visuals. The feeling is that the second game of the series improves on what was already great, and it feels rewarding and fun to play. It is another single-player masterpiece from Sony.
