I am not agains microtransactions, but if you are going to charge me a lot of money to have the "complete" game experience, then don't sell the game at full price at the beginning.
Fortnite is doing billions by giving the main game for free.
If I pay $80 for a game, I expect it to be complete.
This is the worst Gran Turismo so far.
    Stay away from it.

On top of that, if you somehow manage to earn the credits you need through countless of hours of grinding, your dream car is not a click away from a purchase, but instead you need an INVITATION LETTER. The chances of getting one for the brand you want to buy the car are lower, than those of winning the lottery in real life. Absolute **** Polyphony Digital should make HUGE changes in terms of the game progression and purchase of cars otherwise this game will reach depths never seen before.

Micro transactions have ruined this game. The point of a racing game is to be able to race cars you wouldn’t be able to in real life and have fun in doing so. Regarding race win payouts which were cut by half (!!!) shows PD/Sony agenda of forcing players to use microtransations to buy extremely overpriced cars. I've never or will never use microtransations on a game for which I've paid full price (remember it's not a F2P!!!). Thank you PD/So y for ruining my experience of a game I've had high hopes for.

And my expectations were met with a great simulator with a fantastic feel and love for cars, until about a week into the game's lifespan since release. Gran Turismo games are heavily based around their single-player campaign, this has been the norm and a large part of the appeal for many fans of the series. The problem is that with GT7, the expected "campaign" seems to be completely unplayable in this title without a constant internet connection. This game is Unplayable, inaccessible, and impossible to progress unless the GT7 online servers are up and running, and unless your internet connection is stable.

With that issue, there comes another fundamental problem with GT7, and that seems to be a mix of various gameplay restrictions that are new to this title specifically. In past Gran Turismo games, the player would be able to sell their cars in order to attain in-game credits used to buy cars and parts. These cars and parts are integral to progression, as the upgrade mechanic allows for older, more affordable cars to be modified and "grow alongside the player" so to speak. GT7 does not allow you to do this whatsoever. GT7 is the first Gran Turismo game where the player is unable to sell vehicles. This new restriction may be due to the new car collection-driven progression mechanic that Polyphony Digital has introduced, which makes sense on the surface. But this makes even less sense given that the various track payouts throughout the game have been heavily decreased, and car prices and part prices have stayed the same.

Polyphony Digital wants the players to grind too hard! It's as simple as that. This is a cause for concern for players who happened to spend $60-70 on a driving simulator game expecting full access to all the features of previous titles, and much more.

The most painful bit of this entire mess of issues is the microtransactions sector of core gameplay. With the issues stated prior, Polyphony Digital and Sony seem to have given players an escape from this incessant need for a perilous "grind". One can spend a very significant amount of real world money in exchange for little in-game currency.

This tells us players one thing: Polyphony Digital and Sony expect players to complete the immensely short and dragging "Cafe Mode" tutorial/career section, then grind and grind to attain better cars, be incapable of grinding with the steep prices afterwards, and then buy egregious amounts of currency to be only slightly closer to building a proper car collection necessary to progress.

As a player and long-time fan, I believe and can firmly state that this is akin to an elaborate cash-grab. This is Sony's leap for monetary gain disguised as a polished and well-designed racing simulator.

Felt so strongly about how badly PD & Sony effed this up that I had to make an account and post a review....

Gran Turismo 7 gets a 1, and not a 0, because if we are honest the actual driving in the game is amazing.

However, let's all agree to call a spade a spade. The microtransaction structure of GT7 is nothing less than predatory. About as anti-consumer as this industry has ever seen, and I know EA exists, so I am not saying that lightly. Sony is all about being "for the players" and one of their tent-pole, marquee IPs charges MORE THAN THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE PRICE OF THEIR AAA GAME for a single in-game item (any of the Legends cars)? With some in-game items costing hundreds of real world dollars in microtransactions to acquire??? The EXACT SAME in-game items that, in the previous iteration of this series, cost no more than (I think) $5????? A stunningly, jaw-droppingly short sighted cash grab with their eyes only on short term profits, not the long term health of the franchise and it's very dedicated player base. PD talks about users needing to take a long-term view of this game, but where the hell is the same behavior from PD? How could anyone there honestly expect consumers to swallow this level of raw, naked greed and not openly revolt, review bombing this game into the shadow realm? All I can do is shake my head in amazement.

Then PD comes along after getting their initial glowing reviews and nerfs payouts of a vast majority of races, which can ONLY be ascribed to a desire to push users even more towards microtransactions. There is absolutely no other logical reason that can be given for this change - credit acquisition was already waaayyy too slow relative to the "realistic" car and parts pricing in this game, prior to 1.07.

All the microtransaction shenanigan's aside, there are (for me) two other glaring errors here:
    1) always online for a mostly single player game (no.....just, no.....didn't Sony famously rip Xbox for always online?), and 2) I assume "forgetting" to include, you know, an actual single player campaign/career mode like in all previous main-line entries in the franchise. You know, with increasingly difficult series and championships you work your way through as you build out and upgrade your car collection. The core of the franchise, if you will.

No lie - I thought the "cafe" mode was just the introduction portion of the game, and once I got through it I would find the actual career mode I remembered so fondly from past entries.

I mean, what in the actual f&*%? How did this get screwed up so badly, so quickly? How did no one at PD or Sony stop and say "You know, maybe we shouldn't charge $200 worth of microtransactions for the exact same car that we charge $5 in GT Sport" or "You know, maybe there should be something structured for the single player folks to do AFTER completing the rather limited and linear cafe menus", or even "You know, we roasted the crap out of Micro$oft for making Xbox always online, so maybe it is a little too hypocritical for us to make this single player game always online, too".

    Shame, Polyphony Digital. Shame.

All of this serves not the player who paid $60-$70 to get their foot in the door to this game, but instead the "Top off Your Credits" button that is ALWAYS accessible when something far more important(changing your car) is not.

Scrub these scummy MTX practices from this game PD, so that you can move on and fix the content and Menu issues this game is so desperately also suffering from.

GT4 was the pinnacle of the GT series and GT5 continue that success. Too bad the GT series has gone down hill. If we are striving for realism, in real life wouldn't a driver have sponsors paying for cars? Wouldn't a driver be able to get supplemental income through endorsements?

All the fun driving gameplay in the world (it's admittedly a fun driving experience) can't make up for the dread you feel knowing that you either have to pay money out of your own pocket, or play for an obscene amount of time, if you want to buy the cars, pay for the upgrades, and pay for maintenance.

There is no balance. It's pay to play, and it's hugely disappointing.

Gameplay itself is great, but the UX is poor and needs a lot of QoL fixes. Why have a "tuning shop" that you can't tune and test from? Why in the tuning shop can't I view my cars stats so I an make judgements on equipment I want to buy, but instead you have to back out of the store, to go to your garage, look at your stats, then exit the garage, then go back into the store to buy the item, to then have to exit the store, enter a race for time trial, to test and tune. You see how much time is spent just clicking clicking clinking in and out of menus, instead of doing everything directly from with in the shop? You should also be able to be in a race, and from the tuning menu, be able to buy directly from there, so you don't have to back all the way out to go to the store. Why can't you view the weather prior to entering the race? Instead of entering the race just to find out, oh I have to back out and buy tires bc its raining. There is a ton of this clicking around menus which gets tiresome/time consuming. The campaign was way too easy to the point where I thought I was in a tutorial the entire time, then all of a sudden it was over and all I did for every race was just buy racing breaks and racing soft tires. I basically just accidentally ran through it not even realizing that I was actually playing the campaign not a tutorial and this is a dude who hasn't played GT since gt1 and 2. I'm tired of typing now but the nail in the coffin for me, for a $70 game, is the fact that the game becomes unplayable if you cannot connect to the servers. You can't even get into your garage. I don't even play multiplayer, and you lock me out of my $70 stand alone racing game. I'm not going to beat the dead horse about the in game economy since thats very obvious. Also this annoyed me so much that for the first time ever I'm on metacritic writing a review. Expand

Unlike real life, we can’t sell cars to get money back. Second, the AI suck. Even the hardest AI difficulty is bad, and they push you out of the way. The career mode that was hyped so much is full of chase the leader races, this is simply outdated in today’s world. I don’t want to start 30 seconds behind 1st place and pass everyone like they’re standing still. And the career mode is small. I finished it in a week. There are less events than GT Sport. The always online requirement worsens the experience further. For over a day, we could not access the game at all due to trashy update by PD. The physics aren’t good either, the cars have a laughable amount of oversteer while not being a simulator at all. If you want a true sim, get ACC or something. The rally physics are absolutely TERRIBLE. It’s like a mobile game the way it handles. There is not much more new content than GT Sport. This game was marketed really well and tricked myself and thousands of others into spending 70 dollars for it. Never again I am buying a GT game. Kaz doesn’t care. PD don’t care. For 25 years, I've given my money for every Gran Turismo game. In turn, I've spend countless hours over those 25 years playing what I feel are the best racing games ever made.
For what it's worth, I feel that Gran Turismo 7 does live up to the expectations that have been set by it's predecessors. The graphics are exceptional, and the simulation of each car's appearance, sound, and performance, along with the customization and tuning abilities, are unmatched. Although many others (understandably) detest the linear and forced nature of the "Cafe" progression system, I don't mind it. It's a massive departure from past games, but I don't think change is necessarily a bad thing. Now for the rest of it. You all know exactly what I'm going to say.

    WTF.

You greedy, soulless bastards. How dare you charge $60 - $80 for a game, and then basically force microtransactions on top of it? Yeah, I know, I know. You're not forcing micrtransactions. Except, you definitely are. How else is anyone going to buy any of the cars that are available for X number of days, without buying additional credits? I can't grind on these tracks all day every day to earn the millions of credits that I need to buy the cars that should always be available to buy at an attainable price, because, you know, that's why I bought the game. And do you know why I can't spend all day grinding for credits? Because I have a job. That I need to go to every day to support my family, and maybe once in a while, drop some of my hard earned money on a game. And when I do, I'll be damned if I want to pay for it, only to find out that the only parts of it worth playing are going to cost me even more real, green, not fake credits, actual, money. Legal tender. Screw you guys.

And when I thought that maybe you were about to make it right, when you shut the entire game down for 2 days, presumably to fix the countless bugs, and hopefully put the right tires on the cars since you didn't give us the ability to do it ourselves in many races, what did you do? You filthy snakes. You lowered the payouts for the highest paying races to make it even more difficult to access the most desirable cars in the game? What the hell is wrong with you?

But wait, there's more. Kazunori Yamaguchi, what on Earth are you thinking? Because on top of all that, (presumably in an attempt to delineate the boundless idiocy of those insufferable peasants who dared to question your blatant chicanery), you actually had the balls to post that ridiculous letter, an absolute masterclass in "How To Be Both Woefully Disaffected And Astonishingly Tone Deaf". The convoluted explanation doesn't even make a bit of sense. Keeping the cars at real world prices? OK, whatever, but for that logic to hold up, it stands to reason that the payouts for winning races would also align with real world numbers. And by any measure, it's not even close. And that was true before you lowered the winnings for the top races. How stupid do you think your customer base is? Did you think that no one would notice? That Seriously, did no one even suggest that maybe it wasn't such a great idea to share that apathetic response before you published it? Who's in charge of Public Relations over there, freakin Scrooge McDuck?

Jesus Christ, you might as well just post a picture of your middle finger instead. Or maybe a selfie of you just grabbing your balls. That's what I would have done. Now that I think about it, that definitely would have been the way to go. As soon as I saw that, I would have just been like, "Damn. Respect."

Yeah, so that's all I've got. I never would have paid a single penny for this game, had I known that I would have to pay again to access the best parts of the game. It's some dishonest and underhanded stuff that you all did. But here's the thing - you only get to do it once, because I'll never buy another game from you bunch of weasels again in my life.

Well Sony and Polyphony I can’t afford these super cars in real life you made it possible that I can’t afford them in a video game as well.

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 brings to the tracks every single thing fans always wanted: the GT Mode everyone loves, plenty of customization options, car loads, classic scenarios and one of the best DualSense and 3D Audio experiences the PS5 has to offer. This is the best Gran Turismo experience we have ever seen in a long time.

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
