Funko is elated to announce our entry into console via a brand new partnership with 10:10 Games!

Led by legendary video game developer, and 5-time BAFTA award winner Jon Burton (formerly of TT Games), 10:10 Games was specifically founded for this purpose, and is already home to some of the most talented designers, and developers on the planet.

Funko and 10:10 Games have been hard at work for over a year on this exciting new initiative that will produce a wealth of AAA content on a variety of consoles and PC. Whilst we cannot reveal the title, and other third party studio partners at this time, we can reveal that the first game will be an action platformer and rated "T" for Teen.

One thing I will proudly share about my experience is that, although the game heavily relies on licensed IPs, most of which I was already familiar with, it was Umbrella Academy that stood out. It had been on my watchlist for a while, but thanks to playing in the world of Funko Fusion, I was intrigued by the characters and the universe, and I ended up watching the entire series. I’m now a fan so I think the job they set out has been completed. For this reason and the extraordinary work that 10:10 Games has done since launch, my Funko Fusion score is more positive than first expected, and the current state of the game is recommended for sure.

There’s no getting around the feeling that Funko Fusion springs from the same genre gene pool as the Lego video games. Visually, the game is a treat and the levels effectively reference their source material. Funko Fusion isn’t without humor or clever touches, but its combat is excessively repetitious and fused to some awkward, fun-killing mechanics. Underneath those bobbleheads are the bones of a good game that never quite reaches the surface.

Funko Fusion is ultimately boring, with an overly long mission structure, bland gameplay elements, and a story that comes across as pointless as to why this mixture of characters is interacting.

I really wanted to enjoy this game. I collect Funko Pops and love many of the franchises represented in the game, and fully expected an experience at the same level of quality as the LEGO games. I’m also surprised that given the popularity of the Pop Yourself custom figures, the game doesn’t have any kind of character-building feature. Unfortunately, I can’t really recommend this game, you’ll probably find it as frustrating and disappointing as I did.

Funko Fusion is unfortunately not the joyous celebration of pop culture it should be, thanks to frustrating enemies and lots of dull levels.

Cynical doesn’t even begin to describe such a poisonous display of IP leverage. There’s something actively nasty about the thing. It’s a reminder that creativity is not owned by the creators, it is imprisoned by the least creative among us, those of us who force others to dance but can't carry a tune.
