    • Might just be me, but it feels like some of the later Eikon abilities do less damage than the Pheonix Equivalent. The high moments in this game are so incredibly high that i can look past the issues. Performance will most likely be fixed down the road and the side quests are optional.

    Final Fantasy XVI is a beautiful game, best graphics in video game of all time way ahead of its time, excellent medieval story, good bosses, eikon bosses, a plot magnifies definitely one of the best Final Fantasy games and the world of the story.
    Best game I have ever played nothing has yet to come out on level scale of this looking forward to future of the franchise.

    Another Masterpiece for PS5. FFXVI runs perfect smooth fluidly with 60 fps and looks great. stylish combat-system. Interesting Story.

    One of the best game this year to come out for the PS5 gaming system. Storyline is top notch and gameplay controls are smooth tight. Boss fights and Eikon fights are very memorable. The demo is available at the PSN store if you want to try it before buying.

    This was an amazing game, enjoyed about everything about it, and the story was deep, well-written, and was one of the best stories I've seen in a game, and I loved it, and I really liked the characters, I felt emotionally attached to them. I've also enjoyed the gameplay aswell as the controllable eikons in this game, it was a lot of fun, and I really liked the world I explored, and theThis was an amazing game, enjoyed about everything about it, and the story was deep, well-written, and was one of the best stories I've seen in a game, and I loved it, and I really liked the characters, I felt emotionally attached to them.     I haven't played many Final Fantasy games, but I have to say that this game is a masterpiece unlike anything I've seen before.     Absolutely love the game. I have now played 11 final fantasy games over the past 20 years and count this as one of my favorites. The characters are great, the bad guys are very easy to hate, and I found myself becoming attached to so many of the side characters you get to interact with throughout the game. While there might be a few side quests that are rather simple, so many of themAbsolutely love the game. I even still find myself doing the side quests and rewatching many of the cutscenes that I loved so much. Much like my other favorites from the FF series, I expect I will be coming back to play this game long after I have gotten the platinum just to live in the world with the characters I love again.… Expand

    la storia è una delle più belle mai viste in vita mia, quando si pensa che si è raggiunto il picco massimo in uno scontro ogni volta si ha sempre di meglio, i cali di fps mai avuti, graficamente è spettacolare e i particellari che danno fastidio a chi non ne capisce niente sono invece STUPENDI. Non fidatevi di chi su youtube né sparla perché non hanno niente da fare se non lamentarsi e seguire la massa, compratelo e fidatevi non lo ridarete indietro mai e poi mai.     -Performance is horrible, and the so called "performance" mode should just be called stutter mode and the quality mode should be "I see triple mode", this game will teach you to look away or turn the camera quickly/slowly to avoid the motion blur.

    -Difficulty is hit and miss, it's way too easy to enjoy the combat system. But the combat system is quite darn good. So having all encounters turn into a easy button mash is sad. Harder difficulties are sadly locked beyond NG+    … Expand

    No le doy un 10 porque no hay componente estratégico. No existen debilidades elementales, ni estados alterados. Las magias casi brillan por su ausencia.

    Los combates piden a gritos más combos y acciones. He matado a muchos jefes usando la misma estrategia

    Great visuals, fantastic combat, outstanding voice acting and direction. Game is linear but with abundance of open-world games, this feels nice change of pace. Must play for new or returning final fantasy fans, or if you're simply looking for compelling action-adventure.

    Una vez finalizado el juego, debo decir que estamos ante un título que pudo haber marcado historia en la saga y codearse con la época gloriosa que va desde el VI al IX pero que se queda a medias por el camino debido a problemas importantes que no pueden pasarse por alto.

    Paso a exponerlos:

    > La progresión de personaje es inexistente y subir de nivel no significa absolutamente nada.
    > Tiene el peor sistema de gearing de la saga, y entiendo que es un hack n' slash mayormente... pero es que tanto las armas como el equipo son tan pobres y significan tan poco que no puedes pasar por alto la indeferencia con la que han tratado este aspecto y más en una franquicia como FF. Los accesorios son directamente una broma.
    > La ausencia de elementos es otro deficit importante, da exactamente igual el eikon que equipes que con cualquier puedes hacerle daño a todo, sin importar afinidades etc (un pilar de la saga que ignoran totalmente).
    > La historia tiene algún tramo demasiado bajo que te saca de la trama y del "momentum", sobran bastante y se hace unicamente por alargar el juego de manera artificial.
    > No es ni un open world ni un juego pasillero total... es algo a medio camino que no tiene demasiado sentido, pues la exploración no se premia absolutamente nada más que para encontrar 2 cofres con cualquier consumible o material random.
    > Al malo final le falta bastante fuelle y en ningún momento empatizas con él, te da un poco igual lo que le pase, sus ideas etc... es un personaje poco trabajado y que se ve superado por cualquiera de los dominantes a los que te enfrentas a nivel de carisma.
    > Pasa demasiado tiempo desde que tienes 2 eikon hasta que te dan el tercero. Y qué decir del último el cual directamente estás casi terminando el juego ya cuando lo recibes.

    Y dicho todo esto... por qué le doy un 8? pues porque aún con sus defectos y que se ha renunciado totalmente al género RPG, sigue teniendo una historia muy muy buena que sabe cerrar por lo alto y con unas primeras 12-15h de juego que son increíbles. Si llega a mantener esa dinámica hasta el final hubiesemos hablado de una de las mejores historias de la franquicia, que es decir bastante. En el balance global lo coloco como el mejor FF desde FFX que ya es bastante, por encima del FFXII, del FFXIII y del FFXV. (El XIV no es comparable aquí).    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really liked the demo and, generally speaking, the first half of the game. The characters were very interesting across the board, the story had me very emotionally invested, the politics between nations was amazing, the world building was excellent. Yes, the side quests and RPG features were pretty lame, but the fantastic gameplay in the fantastic story with it's fantastic characters made none of it matter. If the game kept up with it's quality throughout the entirety of it, I'd be giving it a 9, despite the flaws.

    But the story falls off a cliff at some point as they've built up a "big bad" enemy. Characters that were once interesting either cease to exist or become very bland and predictable. The convoluted politics disappear and the story begins to drag as each and every objective is guessed ahead of time. I was excitedly playing every chance I got and then I was forcing myself to play the game so that I could complete it. And if the big bad was satisfying to kill, I'd maybe be okay with the ending, but the only feeling the ending left me with was dissatisfaction. I didn't care about killing the big bad in this game, at all, and the ending is set up to make the player satisfied with the death of the MC and his pals because they stopped the big bad. But the big bad was lame and uninteresting, so the MC and pals that were the last things I was emotionally invested in died killing a mostly faceless enemy that I didn't care about.

    Also, while the general gameplay is fantastic, the eikon fights were absolutely boring to play comparatively and I found myself disappointed when having to switch from human combat to eikon combat when it really should have been the opposite. Overall, I feel like they fumbled their execution on what could have been an amazing game, leaving the game feeling generic and unsatisfying.    … Expand

    First time since FF12 that I have been this invested in a singleplayer final fantasy game. Loved every minute of it. It doesn't play like the final fantasies of old, but it sure is the first game in a long time that made me feel the same way I did playing a Final Fantasy game back in the day. Watching an FMV was the most hype thing back during the PS1 and PS2 days, and that has kind of been lost now. But the Eikon battles feel like the replacement for that in this game. They are breathtaking. I had a smile on my face during every single one.

    Not every fan is going to be pleased, but for me 13 and 15 were not what I personally wanted out of this franchise, and even 7R made decisions I am not a huge fan of. But FF16 felt like a true return to form to me. I have played every game in this franchise besides 11, and while I still need to let it sink in a bit, I am confident this game is going to rank high among my favourite FF games.     There are no words. This game is gripping, ambitious and just a masterpiece. It's a big change from the usual final fantasy formula but its a good one.

    What can be improved.. Side quests start slow but gets really good at the end. If only they started well too.
    I think the combat can also be improved with maybe elemental weakness? And more options for weapons
    FF is back with 16 and 7 Remake

    but it is lacking a lot of elements that makes a game a Final Fantasy.
    While I very much enjoy the combat, a lot. It needs a lot more. Pros: -Masterful Combat -Epic Boss Battles -Complex Story Line -Great Love Story -Combat is better than FF15, I would not be able to go back to 15 and I tried. Missing: -Party System and Switching Party Members    This game is absolutely amazing.

    Plenty of combat tactic when fighting, but hardly no need to plan ahead.

    Cons:
    -Story suffers from "This appears now because I said so" syndrome where at any time, Clive could have sense Joshua but no Phoenix feather appeared before the sand town, or Torgal out of nowhere uses that ability but I still think Torgal saved Jill and Clive at the beginning and not Cid.
    The story basically makes things up as it goes along for the sake to tell a story but not really.
    -Enemies are too easy, even without the magic item, once you gain 3 Eikons, you spam abilities to win
    It would have been better if they could have countered it or something.
    -Magic accessory that makes the game easy, it destroys our efforts to gain a worthwhile Platinum Trophy.    … Expand

I know a lot of people are upset that traditional turn based combat is gone in favor of real time action, but the combat is truly amazing. So many abilities and builds can be made, and everything looks incredible. The amount of particle effects happeningAs a newcomer to the franchise with Final Fantasy 7 Remake being my first entry into the franchise, I have to say I'm loving these games. I know a lot of people are upset that traditional turn based combat is gone in favor of real time action, but the combat is truly amazing. So many abilities and builds can be made, and everything looks incredible. The amount of particle effects happening on screen can be a little overwhelming but it truly is a feast for the senses, combine the visuals with Soken's music and you are entering GOTY territory. I will say the game is not perfect, the pacing can be annoying with you killing literal god like figures one sec and the next your collecting some dirt...Overall I had an amazing time with the game, the characters are great and the story knows how to pull at your heart, I will admit I cried at points in the game lol. 9/10 easy… Expand

    The combat is so fun! You'll be sure to find abilities for just you. My only criticism is the lack of hard difficulty. The combat and abilities are amazing.     The combat, story and music are all en pointe. The side quests you may feel are basic at first but stick with them? they really build the world, characters and give you access to items you wouldn’t otherwise get! The boss fights are epic and the ability to respec is appreciated. The characters are really great and the voice acting is superb.

    Final fantasy 16 is the best so far yet. Im glad its not a jrpg those type of games arnt popular no more. Game looks and feel amazing and the story keeps me intrigued. From a player who has the game and is enjoying it. Good job square enix/soft.

    We have been waiting for a new mainline Final Fantasy game for YEARS and this one is special so far…from the voice acting, atmosphere, graphics, combat, music etc is SUPERB…despite some performance issues the game so far is a 10/10 and definitely a HEAVYWEIGHT GOTY contender with ease. For those that are hating they must be living under a rock

    I wonder the sort of bliss someone must feel, who removes themselves from outside influence when choosing their pastimes.     Everything I wanted in a Final Fantasy game is here. I'm enjoying a more mature story, a great cast with their personal stories, a combat that flows perfectly, landscapes that are a feast for the eye, and a magnificent soundtrack. The letdown were the side quests, but not enough to give the game a score shorter than 10/10.

Even if you are just playing just the story with no side quests in mind, thanks to the PS5, the walk to each waypoint will always be scenic, even if in the harshest of environments. While the gameplay can look repetitive, the player is given the ability to mix and match their powers to ensure that every fight will always be a fun one. Of course, we cannot forget the helpful Active Time Lore mechanic that will inform players on subjects relevant to the plot, if confused. Hopefully, more mechanics similar to this will be more common moving forward in gaming. My introduction to the series was with the original game on NES back in 1988 I rented it from    THE NEW GOLD STANDARD FOR FINAL FANTASY GOING FORWARD. Now the review will broken into sections with an intro, visuals/performance, audio, gameplay, story and finally my closing statement. INTRODUCTION:
    Final Fantasy is series that needs no introduction, it's been running strong for 35 years now. My introduction to the series was with the original game on NES back in 1988 I rented it from my local video store in Miami and was instantly hooked I was into D&D, Zelda, Lord of the Rings, Thundercats and He-man. Years latter I borrowed Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and me and a friend played the hell out of it during summer and beat it then When School started that same friend borrowed Final Fantasy 2(4) and after completing that I rented 3(6) and kept going. The one thing consistent with every entry was innovation and change. Try he first game was literally a homebrew D&D campaign, 2 has a story a little too similar to star wars with a unique progression 3, had Jobs and Summons, then 4 came and Changed the series forever with deeper story more focused character development and the Active Time Battle system witch took the series from the traditional turn based combat similar to TTRPGs that influenced the series to a more engaging battle system and the series continued to evolve it's system and story telling . And that brings us to Final Fantasy 16. The naysayers will say that this is not a Final Fantasy because it's combat and their wrong and we'll go over that more in this review.
    VISUALS/PERFORMANCE:
    Let's get one thing straight I'm not a tech expert or someone who recognizes small frame dips, if it's a significant dip sure or obvious pop in I can call it out, but these are not things I experience in my playthrough. Square-Enix nails it and I don't think anyone will argue that SE are masters in CG and graphical presentation. The level of detail is incredibly the lighting the way the grass moves the particles effects and subtle hair strains life like movement. The game is a visual feast for the eyes CBU3 worked some incredible magic and this game truly feels next gen the work and love to that went into creating this world is plain to see and I dare say perfection.
    AUDIO:
    The music is just epic new tracks and remixes of older tracks from the long history of excellent music clearly a love letter to FF's musical history. The voice acting, Yoshi-P was right to use a British cast the dialogue was coherent did I feel that any of the voicework felt out of place. The sound department does not disappoint more on that with gameplay.
    GAMEPLAY: The exploration is satisfying, the combat wich was designed by the guy who did DMC5 created a very engaging system especially once you start unlocking more eikonic abilities and mastering them you can mix and match despite your eikon set up (3 at a time) to match your play style or what a situation calls for. With the excellent audio every slash, stab and smash feels so gratifying especially with the dual sense controller, later on Torgal aka Goodest boy ever gets some new bells and whistles that will have long time fans minds blown. STORY:
    This is gonna sound like I'm signing a check I can't cash but this is the best storytelling in a Final Fantasy since Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX/PSP) from the tragic opening moments the game pulls you in. Never have I cared so much for supporting characters in game as this they have all been well written especially Cidoulfus this games Cid who is a small not to Orlandu of FFT fame. Clove is also one of if not the best protagonist written, going through three different points in his life was a great way to show how the character grows from humble noble to a man fixated on revenge to well I'm not going to spoil the story beats any further. Even some of the side quest had me carrying about village inhabitants and even goblins.
    CLOSING REMARKS:
    I have been a fan of the series since the 80s and every game was different from the last ill admit some did sit all to well with me but the fact that every title is something new and they are willing to take risks is why the series has been around for the last 35 years it release clicked with some player out there in some way and 16 is no different. I have no bad thing to say about nor am I wishing it had some other feature, I'm reviewing the game for what it is and I'm all for it I'm so glad Yoshi-P and stuck to their vision and they have shown just how talented they are.     This game is one of the best games of the year so far. The story is amazing and well paced, the music is wonderful and the combat system is great as well. This game has everything, I’d definitely recommend this game to anyone who owns a PlayStation. This is for sure game of the year quality.

    The main content of this game is really strong, and I enjoy the story and the characters. Unfortunately, I don't like the side content very much. The side quests feel very MMORPG, and they're quite hand-holdy. I think I would have had less of a bad reaction about them if I hadn't just finished playing TOTK when I picked up this game.

    This game is truly an incredible experience and honestly it's hard to put it to words. Highly recommend it if you enjoy long, epic battles with in-depth dynamic combat and incredible story, badass music and characters and some seriously next-level cutscenes. And of course, references from the previous FF games, which are always fun to find!

    I am loving every second of this game! Final Fantasy has always been about redefining itself with every mainline release while providing an interesting and engaging narrative. FF16 does this and more. It is another beautiful entry for a storied franchise and the mature direction is a fresh perspective. Definitely the best game I’ve played so far this year and a must play.

Overall, the setting in Final Fantasy games has always been a Japanese take on European fantasy, so the feudal values and almost exclusively European looking cast is fitting. That said, I would be interested to see a modern Final Fantasy set with a woman as the lead or even a person of color. Maybe in the next numbered game they could try that.

    The combat feels fresh and active. The character customization is a bit lacking for a role-playing game.

    My main complaint about the game is the poor performance on the Playstation 5. Even in Performance mode the game struggles in some fights and scenes. Even when you lock your Playstation to 1080p. They try to hide this with extreme motion blur but that makes the game somewhat headache inducing if you move the camera around a lot while running around in open areas. It is such a shame to see one of the biggest negatives of a game be the performance because otherwise this game is a solid 9/10 for me.    … Expand

One of the factors that stood out to me was that this script held english as a priority and the japanese dialogue was dubbed around it. As such, the dialogue beats lacked a lot of anime tropes that many FF games have had in the past. Some found it charming and a quirk in the franchise's favor, but you cannot deny this iteration's dialogue lacks an awkward pause in the middle of the sentence that is unfortunately due to limitations of dubbing another language's dialogue.    … Expand

    While a departure from turn based to action i found XVI did not fail . The soundtrack is phenominal as well as story and the new battle system. While there is some small performance issues that will likely be patched they were not so bad that i felt they hurt the game. XVI is another solid game carrying the final fantasy name.

    Having played the game for over 25 hours, I will say the story and characters are really awesome. And the combat, especially the boss fights are really fun with the atmosphere and music and combat. I recommend manual combat without the auto combat accessories for the full experience.     I would give it a 10, but there are a bit too many cutscenses, i think alot of the non-significant cut scenes could have done on the move while actually traveling. (The story / action cut scenes are really really good - just the progression / storytelling ones weren't all neccessary I think)

    Also the crafting could have been done better - its too limited, wish we had more actual armor to equip and craft such as body armor and boots. FF16 is just belt, gloves, and 3 accessories. More equippable armor would have been more fun "loot" to obtain and craft and make you feel stronger.

    The early side quests aren't too great but they get better.

    Combat (No Auto Accessories) 10/10 - for boss fights

    One of the best games I've ever played. Not perfect (FPS drops most impactful) but the good parts clearly outweigh the negative parts. A console generation defining game which I definitely recommend.

    The focus here is on the story and the big Aikon battles, which are phenomenally done. The story so far is one of the best games I've ever played, it's very dramatic and emotional, the production is just as good. The music by Soken is great. The combat system is well thought out and will not let you get bored until the end of the game.

    The game does not run as smoothly as you would expect for a new gen game, however, I didn't feel that took away any value when it came to the thrilling gameplay, great plot and AMAZING soundtrack.
    As a side note, if you are a fan of "epic" visuals and soundtrack, you will LOVE this game, no doubts.

It has been years since a game literally made me feel goosebumps like the combination of the music, art and story did at the game's first big reveal. Combat cannot be described as anything otherA masterpiece cinematc experience. Amazing art complimented by the breath-taking music that only Soken could write and a great (if not a bit FF-tropy) story that keeps you on the edge of your sit. It has been years since a game literally made me feel goosebumps like the combination of the music, art and story did at the game's first big reveal. Combat cannot be described as anything other than excellent too, just be warned that the game is as match of a movie as it is a hack-and-slash. If you are not into long cutscenes and scripted interactive spectacles (even if they are supported by amazing visuals, a complelling story and a breath-taking music) you may not be able to get full-value out of thi s game. But if you are, or if you are a fan of DmC-style combat even a bit, you owe it to yourself to play this game, yesterday.

    It has the same flaws as FF13 minus the combat i.e linear level designs ,walking and talking simulator until the game opens up. Also it is probably the easiest final fantasy since every enemy can be overwhelmed easily with an easy-mastered combo, even the final boss. I used quality mode for exploration and performance mode for battles since the stuttering and screen tearing areIt has the same flaws as FF13 minus the combat i.e linear level designs ,walking and talking simulator until the game opens up. If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry.
