    I was initially skeptical after FF15 about buying FF16 at launch. Glad I did. I've always loved the Final Fantasy Series since part 6 on SNES for the story and FF16 delivered in that department. Even though I miss the turn based battle system the gameplay on FF16 is just as fun. It's different but definitely entertaining.

    Well not perfect.

    I really enjoyed the story, characters and world immensely. Its a beautiful game and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

    I do wish they leaned more into traditional RPG elements though.

    The pure spectacle of this game is insane. Paired with a super fun, high skill ceiling combat system, and plenty of incredible characters, FF16 hits every mark for me.

    I really don't know what to say here except, my god....
    I think a FF game has FINALLY topped the original FFVII. This game is perfection. Some of the finest art direction, story and music in any game I have played. And the gameplay is immersive and addictive. I can't take my hands off this game.
    After FFXV, I had no hype for this whatsoever until the demo came out....and even then I was    I really don't know what to say here except, my god....

    Folks who are review bombing simply for being exclusive for 6 months are pathetic. This is a good game that deserves great review scores. Not only is the combat fast and smooth, the story is compelling, the acting is superb, and the world is beautiful. The music kicks ass as always as well. Don't listen to the trolls, play it for yourself. It's great.

    I’ve been playing Final Fantasy for over 25 years as an avid fan of the franchise. My first was VII at release and it completely changed how I looked at video gaming.

    I’ve played all of the mainline games in that time, on and offline and feel that XVI is one of the strongest we’ve had in many years. I had every faith that the team would deliver as a huge fan of FFXIV Online and all of    I’ve been playing Final Fantasy for over 25 years as an avid fan of the franchise.     I had every faith that the team would deliver as a huge fan of FFXIV Online and all of their efforts over the years. They’ve exceeded these expectations.

    Story, acting, music, characters and an epic adventure are what I go to FF games for, and this has it all.

    to be honest, i‘m not the soulslike-gamer, so i am not a big fan of the fighting system. still:

    - i love the story telling, and the zillions of additional background infos.
    - i love running through the game and just look the stunning graphics.
    - i would have eated wirh. 9 but to balance the worthless 0-ratings i‘ll give it a 10

    Undoubtedly one of the finest Final Fantasy titles in history. This is a shining masterpiece through and through. Exhilarating and fast-paced combat inspired by Devil May Cry. A medieval, dark fantasy setting that is brought to life with jaw-droppingly impressive visuals. A gripping storyline that is carried by wonderful characters. Yoshi-P, Square Enix's very own GOLDEN KING is theUndoubtedly one of the finest Final Fantasy titles in history. This is a shining masterpiece through and through. Exhilarating and fast-paced combat inspired by Devil May Cry. A medieval, dark fantasy setting that is brought to life with jaw-droppingly impressive visuals. A gripping storyline that is carried by wonderful characters. Yoshi-P, Square Enix's very own GOLDEN KING is the mastermind behind this mainline entry in the series. The genius/madman from Capcom Ryota Suzuki was grabbed by him personally to be the Combat Director. Platinum games and the Kingdom Hearts teams also assisted with development. This is a dream game made by a dream team .

    FFXVI not only has an excellent combat system, but its narrative is also on a supreme level. This is one of my personal favorite storylines in a video game and it impeccably captures the themes of brotherhood, family, nobility, redemption, regret, hope and faith. Furthermore, the whole experience is tinged with a cinematic flourish that will leave you inspired.

    Trust me when I say that this is not one to miss. After completing the opening segment and witnessing the title card drop, you'll be thanking GOD that you had the privilege to play this game.    … Expand

    Far exceeded my expectations. What a ride! Great English cast as well, I tend to play these in Japanese by tried English for this one and was not disappointed.

    An amazing game! Amazing to look at, amazing to play, and an amazing, almost infinite combo possibilities as combat abilities open up. Story is very good as well. Game of the Year IMO!!

    Ahhh you gotta love the double Standard of Metacritic..if a game is Review Bombed for being woke, they act really fast and delete 90% of those Bad reviews..BUT when its the Woke idiots that Review Bomb..strangely not much is happening....
    ANYWAY...great Game, gorgeous Visuals, decent, if a bit slow, Story, Phenomenal Combat.

    Finished the game and did all side content.
    The story was incredible! It’s so good I can say that of a FF again. Combat smooth, and more ambitious game I have played on while.
    The firsts side quest and first zones are kinda tutorial and not top tier, but after a certain moment everything just improves. The last missions about the characters are great. Now it’s ng+ for combat content. I    Finished the game and did all side content.

    A great step in the right direction. XVI makes me excited for the future of the series. The action battle system is great but it would have been much better with elemental damage and stats to add a layer of strategy and differentiate Eikons from one another. The missions design is too MMO'ish for a single player game but overall the game is a gem.

    Final Fantasy XVI is definitely off tone in direct comparison to the other games. That much is true. It wants to establish atmosphere and does that by forcing itself to be as "mature", dark, gritty and miserable as it can be by having graphical violence, sex and other elements all the time that DID exist in FF but wre glossed over by the fact it was in the old games that were from the 90s.Final Fantasy XVI is definitely off tone in direct comparison to the other games. It wants to establish atmosphere and does that by forcing itself to be as "mature", dark, gritty and miserable as it can be by having graphical violence, sex and other elements all the time that DID exist in FF but wre glossed over by the fact it was in the old games that were from the 90s. This makes it very hard to enjoy some scenes if you expect something similiar and that is the one thing that I fully admit can be too off for an FF. Nevertheless for what it wants to tell you, it utilizes these things well but I think this would have fit better for a Drakengard game because Drakengard and Nier are full of misery, violence and sex.

    Action combat: It is true that this is vastly different but if we are being honest, this is nothing new. Final Fantasy since XII re-invents its combat system all the time. XIII had a teeny-tiny bit of its system but XII was different, XV war different and heavily action focuses - and you could also only control Noctis before the patches, btw. - and here it is even more action packed. The switching of the summons is nothing special. They did that in Lightning Returns with the immediate costume changes for Lightning. Whether you like the change or not, you must be extremelly picky to say the combat and the boss battles are bad. However I would have liked if they at least gave the other party memvbers a small health bar below Clives and rudimentary commands that Clive could give them - similiar to Torgal. Their AI also needs improvement.

    Sidequests: Yes, it is undeniable. There are sidequests, especially early ones that do not tell a rewarding enough story but the ones that are good, are really good. A few of the bounties are also good and if can even do the time attack monoliths if you want a challenge. Overall I like that the sidequests and bounties made use of every single "somwhat of a village or bigger space." Especially some of the villages you might not even know of. They are not really there for much but it is a nice discovery. And again if people want to complain: Elden Ring and Zelda is full of repetitive, no value tasks. That is not an opinion. I played them for long enough and I would criticise them for that as well, because a lot of it is also "just there." So all of those games and not just Final Fantasy could do better. FF especially should bring back some minigames for the sidequests. In their essence repetitive sidequests that are drawn out because of constant conversations are not necessarily greatly executed.

    Story: Touching as always - especially the further it goes. A good chunk of it was in Lightning Returns as well. But what it wants to tell and how it presents it is beautiful. It gets a little corny but THAT is Final Fantasy. But it has pacing issues.

    Characters: Clive and Joshua and their dynamic are really good.

    Music: The boss theme, prelude and main theme are all fantastic and properly used.

    Metacritic is extremely pathetic and deletes everything I mention about the idiocies of the review bombs, so I will mention it again: The review bombs of 0s are extremely idiotic and pathetic. Even if you do not like the game, there is no reason for it to be a 0. This is still a high-quality game. People are also foolish enough to claim this is not an RPG just because it is pretty action-heavy. The game has everything that an RPG has. If you want to see which kind of people downvote the posts and the game, check their profile. Many of them were just here to give Zelda a 10 and have nothing else - at least a lot of the older reviews. That should tell you everything.    … Expand

    Very well acted and presented. A very strong opening sequence sets the tone. Once the option to turn off motion blur is added, I will be starting NG+. Incredible.

    I give the game itself a 9.5, mostly because the ending was something I was a little... hm.... well, let's just say that I believe that what we see is not the entire story, and I    It was a genuine pleasure to play this game, which is surprising because I am not an action game player. The story was in-depth, I loved Active Time Lore, and I loved getting to meet so many amazing characters.

    I can also say that I do really appreciate the humor? There were a lot of things that were genuinely funny. Koji Fox and the other creators gets a round of applause for the clear love they put into this game.

    I would definitely pay some money for a few extra DLC, but unlike FFXV, it's clear that the game is actually complete. Do I want more? Yes. Do I want some DLC to make the ending even tighter (and I really do believe they left it open so they could possibly add in a little DLC later on)? Yes, yes I do.

    I just beat it, I couldn’t stop playing it. The last FF I really enjoyed was X with XII somewhat interesting. This game deserves to be a contender for GOTY. The story is the best in the series hands down. I could understand why people who were used to turn-base hate it but this is the very first ARPG that I enjoyed.

Literally cheered and had other outbursts from narrowly beating enemies I felt personally invested in beating. The only games to get me hooked in recent years have been Ys 8/9 and Elden Ring. This one goes in the hall of fame. It does have a slow start though and I almost gave up in thebest game I have played in ages. I had so many “wow” moments when important things happened. Cried.     I can point to several spots in the game where the pacing is abysmal. With that being said, the game is still a 10/10. Best story in the series.

    Warning: don't go into the game playing the comparison game in your head. Enjoy it for what it is - a modern classic with some of the best fighting, world building, and emotional storytelling in gaming history.

    Really Amazing game. I love the action based paradigm and the focus on providing a pure fun experience without having to worry about complicated RPG and open world element. The game allows you to just sit down and enjoy developpers effort to deliver one of the most epic games in terms of story and action.

    For me is 9.5 out of 10 however Metacritic doesn’t have 9.5 so I put 10. I haven’t play a good Final Fantasy game since the best last one is Final Fantasy 12, Final Fantasy 7 remake is great as well. But Final Fantasy 16 improve in RPG element into Action RPG style like you don’t have to wait turn by turn which is great. And Clive can use multiple type of summon beast(dominant) and use their skill which is awesome and you really like most of the characters in this game and no annoying character. I mean is an excellent game, you don’t have to listen to the website review and play your own way.… Expand

    Another case of review bombing, but FFXVI is clearly a masterpiece. Story is engaging, battle system is fun and DMC style, and the soundtrack is magnificent.

    Quality mode is the way to play: It's smooth even if we're talking about 30 fps.

    Regarding the overheating issue, if your PS5 is dusty and encased in a narrow space... well, it's your fault!

But being about half-way through the game, all I can say is: I was wrong. It is different, but it took me by storm and I'm enjoying this a lot more than I wasI'll be honest, I walked into this game unenthusiastically and expecting the worst as this was not the Final Fantasy I knew, and more importantly, it wasn't FF7 Rebirth, which I was more excited for at the time of FF16's release. But being about half-way through the game, all I can say is: I was wrong. It is different, but it took me by storm and I'm enjoying this a lot more than I was thinking I would. If I had to describe the game, FF16 is what you'd get if you asked the writer of Game of Thrones to come up with a story for a Final Fantasy game, and then asked the developers of the Witcher 3 to help make the game. But while it is very similar to the Witcher, the combat is far more polished and engaging. I also love how the title is more adult oriented, not shying away from sexual themes, violence and coarse language.

    Everything is extremely high detail, getting close to walls and surfaces reveal a ton of detail and it's mind boggling seeing how much of it is often on display in the same area. The lighting & shadows is some of the best I've seen in any game. And some of the forests in the game look basically photorealistic. Loading times is also very fast. I feel like this is the first truly next-gen title, offering similar visual quality to Demon's Souls, but done at a much larger scale with huge open environments and tons of detail in every direction. It's extremely impressive.

    The characters are really interesting and the story complex and nuanced, I'd be surprised if it doesn't grip you from the start. All of this is beautifully presented through cut-scenes that look like something straight from a Hollywood CG film. The acting, both visual and vocal is perfect, and of course, it's a Final Fantasy game, so the music is on point as well.

    The only real negative for me is the uninteresting side-quests. These are as boring as they get, but I do feel the main story makes up for that in spades, so I can't really fault the title for it. I know some people have complained about the game's performance, but this hasn't been a problem for me personally. During combat the game seems to lock to 60 fps in performance mode and that's really where I need the performance to be good. During the slower exploration bits, the game runs at a higher quality which drops the frame rate below 60, but I never felt like it negatively impacted the experience for me.

    Overall, I'm glad Square-Enix took their time with the game, it's clear that a ridiculous amount of polish went into it. If anything drastically reduces my enjoyment in the late game I'll update my review accordingly, but so far very happy with everything the game offers.    … Expand

    Easy 10 purely for the quality British voice acting. Regional dialects too, such as Geordie, to show the Americans that not everyone is from London.

    For me I think it's an average of a solid 8.5 but I will give it a 10 for the story and the characters. The combat is good, fluid, flashy and makes your character feel strong. It can be improved but it's good. The story is really good and I loved it. I will play this game again for sure.

    This game is a serious GOTY contender. The gameplay, visuals and story are outstanding. You really do feel for the main character Clive as you take on an emotional journey. People are comparing the writing to Game of Thrones and I do agree with the statement. Games like this deserve to be in the GOTY running and I’m glad I got to experience this incredible game.

I hold dear to this franchise since FF6 when I first played any FF game when I was a kid. Loved the franchise ever since and that will never change. FF16 has improved what FF15 lacked in even though I feel FF15 did somethings better in my opinion. But that said FF16 is a step up and when I say this is by story, combat, and characters and my word the soundtrack is god tier possibly the best ost in a FF game it deserves a Grammy nomination for how gorgeous the soundtrack is. Voice acting is well done but a few hit and misses. FF16 is a game that has influences of God of War, DMC and Game of Thrones and a few others. It blends well to the overall arc and FF16 has the most appropriate lore menu to know the world and set of characters and environments. You can switch different types of abilities that you get as you progress in the game to do heavy combo attacks. You can make the game easier for you if you put necklaces like extra Gil, extra exp or successful dodging. I highly recommend you don't but if you find yourself struggling then by all means. The soundtrack is a masterpiece and it defines what a jrpgs are about! Any jrpg fans knows when you hear Latin chants and orchestra music you know stuff is gonna be epic. Characters are all great in their own way. But some don't get enough screen time and it's hard to care for them. Boss fights are epic, poetic it vastly the best part in the game. Now the bad.. technical issues. FF16 was never supposed to get a day one patch but was not the case however the patch didn't do nothing to fix the issues regarding the frames in performance mode and I mean it drops all over and that's not good especially when it was never supposed to get one til later after release. Hopefully the next patch fixes this issue. Side-Quests..well they are okay some are rewarding and some are just bland. Motion blur is terrible.

    From my experiences with FF16 with 20 hours playtime I can say it's a masterpiece in it's own way with a few minor issue that needs to be fixed asap. Other how great the story is, this not an open world but a liner road with semi open fields and valleys. Party is two or three depending on who is with you. If you need healing your K-9 will heal you if you ran out of potions. Crafting is a basic as it can get if you have the materials then your all good. The game does have a training grounds to test out your new abilities and there is an arcade mode you try out to get high scores in previous locations and play the bosses again if you like.

    My final score for FF16 is a 10, however this doesn't mean it's a perfect 10. I have debated if I should give it a 9 but if you fix the issues on a technical side it deserves a 10. FF16 bares out to be the best along side FF10 and 7 og.    … Expand

    Have played through about 3/4 the story and I have done every single side quest along the way, explored as much as I could without deviating from the path too much and I have to say that I have genuinely enjoyed this game from everything the story has to offer to the gameplay.     Great visuals, fantastic combat, outstanding voice acting and direction. Game is linear but with abundance of open-world games, this feels nice change of pace. Must play for new or returning final fantasy fans, or if you're simply looking for compelling action-adventure.

    Never had any issues playing this game. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones haha all jokes aside, the eions are fun, gripping story. Characters are cool skill tree excellent semi openworld wish it was more open but it felt like it had good flow. Battles are cool. Nice combo system. Overall 9.8 but it leaned to a 10 so that's what I gave it

    Despite a few technical issues, FFXVI is a gold standard in storytelling, epic cinematography, mind blowing action sequences, and many more. I also didn't think the gameplay itself would be as deep and enjoyable as it is. Thank you Square, especially Yoshi P for delivering beyond our expectations. Definitely worth buying a PS5 just to experience this masterpiece on launch.

Most reviews that are bashing this as merely watching a movie simply either didn't stick through the beginning, or chose to "skip" the gameplay.

    To that point, I felt the sidequests were really great worldbuilding. In fact, side quests towards the end are crucial for understanding how the story wraps up, and it is clear from reading reviews that many people who formulated their opinions simply did not do the quests. Sure the game runs linear through its chapters, but it is by nature of the type of story it's telling. I tried to pace myself to finish all sidequests available before moving on to prevent a pile-up that would cause burnout -- it was very doable for this game. The only thing I did postpone a bit was some of the hunt board, which is basically just going to find a monster out in the wild and slay it.

    Content-wise, there were moments of joy and moments of anguish; fists were clenched, and tears were shed. This is an emotional ride that left me wanting more -- and I do feel compelled to play NG+. I'm a fan of how they documented and organized lore within the game and allow you to read about different locations, history, and character profiles. The fact that NPCs change their dialogue as you walk by them through various parts of the game adds much to the immersion. The voice acting was on point.

    Where this game could improve: pls, the text can be hard to read sometimes. I was playing on a 65" tv and i'm not sitting too far from it; I can't imagine someone playing on a smol monitor. The weapon/equipment system was also lackluster, though abilities more than make up for it in that you have quite a number of combinations of skill sets to choose from -- making your gameplay unique.    … Expand

Not to mention the great detail gone into animation. The combat is fast, detailed and a real spectacle to watch - as are the large and epic eikon battles that feel like a blockbuster movie.

    This really feels like a PS5 game, textures are sharp and detailed. Lighting is wonderful with bloom as you exit indoors and ray tracing. Frames feel fine despite having it on 'graphics' mode. The only noticeable slow down was during an intense eikon battle cut scene, and was very slight. Audio: 10/10

    The music is fantastic. Depending on the moment (light hearted, exploring, dramatic/tense, epic battles etc) the game perfectly manages to capture these moments with a great OST. Sound effects are good, from the creatures to the rustling of plants you run through and chaos during battles. Voice acting is Hollywood quality, it gives the atmosphere of a more dour/serious medieval movie. British talent used, and different emotions/moments are captured very well. Gameplay: 10/10

    Thought has gone into this game in this regard. Combat is fun, you can fight with Clive's sword and do some different attacks, but thanks to eikon abilities, the amount of attacks/magic or chained movies you can do is impressive. They also look great. You can also evade and if timed right - can get a stronger hit in. Eikon battles other unique styles of fighting each time, one is a throwback to Panzer Dragoon (Sega Saturn) another slow and heavy like a wrestling match, others much faster. You can upgrade your combat abilities too as well as weapons and equipment. Though this is a character/narrative driven game like those before it, you won't be able to fully change your weapon class/clothing. You can select a difficulty level (story or action focussed) and can even wear 'easy mode' rings that make combat simple, not what I'd recommend but if you're quite new you this type of game or find it hard, you can still enjoy everything it has without the difficulty beings an issue.

    You can ride a chocobo and navigate the large world, this isn't an open world game like Skyrim, but rather a vast sand box of large open areas interconnected. You can fast travel or cookie explore them on foot, including various towns. You can hold the touchpad at any time including cutscenes to pause and get instant information (up until that point in the story) on the character's you're with, their empires or kingdom they are from. The location, lore etc. This is a great addition as this game has a fairly in-depth story and without this, it'd be easy to lose track of some information/names etc. Storyline: 10/10

    It's hard to fault the story in any way. Enix put a lot of thought into this game's world, everything is there for a reason, and all elements, all kingdoms, characters etc are grounded in the same story. Nothing feels out of place or incoherent (like almost all of FF15). Thanks to the detailed world and backstories given, along with the great voice acting. The story already has some of it's work cut out, but it doesn't slack in any way. It is interesting and engrossing, you feel for the character's and grow attached to them, some moments or interactions might make you smile, other big moments will shock or upset you. Also this is an adult game, it feels like LoTR, Elden Ring etc in tone. There's blood and violence, there's sexual innuendo, swearing and grounded/serious atmosphere.

    Summary: 10/10

    This is either as good as FFVII or close. As things stand this will very likely be in the running for GoTY. If you have a PS5, you'd be crazy you skip this game.

    The game is a masterpiece! yes it has certain things I would have liked changed like adding a top right mini map but I can’t put the game down the story the combat the music the graphics I mean it has it all. Ive been sleeping 2 or 3 hours and back to playing it’s absolutely amazing!!

    This game... I can't it's literally a tear jerker. I loveeeee this game. Don't believe the negative review bombers who said they where going to try and boycott this game like hogwarts legacy and failed. This game has such a great story and music and combat! Also I love clive x jill.

    Final Fantasy 16 is the first game in a long time where I have consistently found myself in awe of what I was witnessing on the screen in front of me. I have been having so much fun experiencing Clive's story and cannot express how amazing the storytelling is. The pacing is well done and rarely feels dull. The music is an absolute banger and a masterpiece unto itself. If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry.
