The game is released in an outrageously half-baked state. It's a disgrace that the developers and publisher thought this is right. It's a disgrace that the developers and publisher thought this is right. I have the PS5 version, ~15-20 hours in and I haven't seen a single cutscene that would actually play as it should. The main story cutscenes are broken to the level that I don't know what's happening, because characters just stand in the corner while the audio plays. Camera is moving into the wall and into other character's groins, Once I saw a character I was talking to standing and her head was twisting around like a propeller. I haven't seen a SINGLE CUTSCENE in the game that would play as "intended". Sometimes I was just talking to a bottle or a baseball bat, in worst cases, there are new characters introduced in audio but I don't see anything from a 2 minute cutscene..
Regarding the PS5 version: To be honest my first reaction was that damn, that graphics look dated as hell! Textures are blurry, trees especially looking bad. Some textures are amateurish, looks like they tries to compensate detail with chaotically layering noise on top of everything. You could easily tell that it was made for PS4, the level of detail on models id very low, looks like it was optimised for PS4 heavily. It is NOT USING ANY OF THE PS5 FEATURES.. Why call it a PS5 game then? Sometimes I felt the trigger is harder to pull but there's no sophistication behind it, just a blind value. And nothing else.. It plays and feels last gen, including the gameplay..
The gameplay reminded me of Far Cry series in a bad way.. No matter how powerful you are, your character is forced to be a dumbass in the cutscenes so other characters can get a hand over him, beat him, take his stuff etc.. This kind of a storytelling is lame and should not be allowed.. If you are building a power fantasy about a parkouring high jumping zombie killing hero, showing him get beaten up in every cutscene is just a kick in the balls for the power fantasy of the game.. Absolutely bad game design..
Characters are introduced in the beginning as they know each other, but let's be honest this is the N+1-th zombie game nobody remembers the first one or their characters that much.. Playing the "familiar card" in this case was a waste of effort..
Most decisions in the game you have to make are either arbitrary or outright illogical, like destroying a power generator. Really? would you really destroy a power generator in a world where UV light and Power generators literal difference are life and death?
To be honest, I found all fractions equally irritating, so I made my choices in a way when I anticipated more people to die, but there's no misanthropic choice, the game just forcing you to be enemies with one no matter what you do.. The fractions itself are quite "on the nose", "good people in the church" "bad people are the police". Really? Can you be more cliché?
Game systems are predictable and outdated..
Just so I can tell something good too, character models are reasonably detailed, but since the cutscenes are **** altogether, you cannot really enjoy them, unless you like to view them from 1mm up close since the cameras are all over the place..
The very first running music in the first cutscene is a steal from Ghost in the Shell, from a relatively unknown album called Megatech Body. I mean it was a straight steal, not even just a variation..
I understand the makers desire to showcase the weapon models they worked on, but removing repair is a ****ty way of doing that.. They could just increase the loot count and make every weapon model useful in a way.

All in all there' some value in the game, but it would need another half a year or more to fix the bugs, another year to properly make this a PS5 title. In this state I'd not recommend it to anyone except fanatics of the first game.. I'd not recommend it mostly because the Publishers and the Developers were confident to release the game in its current sorry state. I mean none of the cutscenes are working in your MAIN STORY!! How the hell is THAT slipping through QR?

So, we finally know why there were so many delays: Techland needed more time to downgrade it all to PS4 standards. It's evident from the get-go that this game was not designed, not optimized, for PS5. It's not as broken as Cyberpunk was at its launch, but that's not saying much. I guess we just have to accept this sorry state as the new normal of game business.

Techland should be embarrassed about what their game looks like on next gen. 1080p60 on PS5???!!!!!??? What is this 2012? Be warned this game is NOT OPTIMISED for next gen. Has a lot of potential to be great but they NEED to make it 4k60. The game looks like a xbox one game from 7 years ago.

Story is ok so far, a few weird decisions, but ok for a zombie game. If you've never played DL1, don't bother with DL2 and go straight to Dying Light 1. I can't find a good innovation in this game, though there are a few. In fact, I think this game should be called Far Light: New Dawn 2. Same crap as Far Cry: New Dawn, boring world with boring weapons, boring people problems. They chose the worst part of the apocalypse, rebuilding a world where nothing happens. I personally don't like it. You can choose between 2 sides you want to help. Survivors and Peace Keepers. Both are stupid idiots, one looks like beggars and the other like paintball kids playing soldiers. You can't manually save so if you glitch into a wall during some missions and die you fail it and bye bye. Most of the characters aren't very interesting and the few that are worthwhile aren't super essential to the story. The zombies feel like they are just there to fill out the world, you almost don't have to fight them, the main opponents are humans. The physics and behaviour of the zombies is disappointing, you just sneak past most of them anyway so they don't see you and when you do fight one you don't break their bones with your punches and they don't X-ray like in DL1 which was one of the best features, you don't break their bones with every punch like in DL1. You're just taking away the Hp's that levitate above them to die, also almost everything here defies physics and zombies, humans and Aiden fly through the air like nothing. You can't throw weapons here, stomp on zombies' heads, my favorite two-legged kick is basically useless and difficult to use here. Overall the skills here are boring and useless. Expand

I wanted so very much to like this game for what it was. But they’ve stripped everything you ever loved from the first one out of the game.
I heard the CEO and his family were demolishing Techland, though never thought the end product would end up being this unremarkable.

It’s almost impressive how badly this came together.

But yeah, they might be patched, so how is the actual game regardless? Aggressively mediocre. Combat, while heavy feeling and satisfying when facing hordes of zombies, is simultaneously very basic, particularly against human enemies. Dodge, attack, dodge, attack, win. You find yourself deliberately getting into dangerous situations just to artificially create the feeling of suspense and adrenaline.

The story is, again, mediocre. Painfully so, to the point where you zone out of cutscenes and making choices just so you can get back to moment-to-moment gameplay again. But even that gameplay is ruined due to a 'countdown' mechanic, where you need to return to base every few minutes or you'll die.

It's not all bad. The parkour is as good as ever, and in some ways improved. The environment is great but ruined by all tension being taken out of everything due to a type heat vision through walls and ceilings telling you EXACTLY where every enemy is in every building. Compared to Dying Light 1, this is chalk and cheese, especially at night where the first game had a genuine feel of dread/terror at venturing out at night. DL2, definitively, does not.

Unless you're a mega fan of this world and absolutely need to play something in it, wait for a heavy sale on this one.

I mean this is a game where you can get hit by rain (there's rain spots effects on the HUD) when you're INSIDE a building. This is bug central. It's enough to make cyberpunk blush. This is 3 months from release. I mean i can understand why they didn't delay it, but it should have been put off while they did some quality testing.

Apart from that it's a fairy standard combat and parkour we saw from the first game - nothing really major here a few new moves but it's the same dying light you played before. Story wise it's okay a lot of flashbacks and unnecessarily things. Anything other than the survivor route feels tacked on though... honestly it feels shoehorned and quickly added to give an idea of "your decisions matter".

Graphically it's a mixed bag, it can look absolutely amazing one minute then the next you're looking at it and wondering why you're seeing PS3 textures. It's all over the place. You're not sure if you're having fun, being frustrated or just wanna beat it because you started the game. Might as well see it through to the end and never play it again. That's what i did.

They've expanded on some of the things like the aesthetics of the dining room and a flashier, vibrant menu. Upon inspection of the menu, however, you discover that some of your favorite classic dishes are missing, and some meals come with a few less ingredients that made that delicacy special. Would you be disappointed?

This is the dilemma of Dying Light 2. While some features such as parkour have vastly improved, heavier RPG elements broadened the gameplay, and characters have added depth to the storyline, combat pacing has become stale and slow, exploration has become grindy and less rewarding, and the very premise of a zombie apocalypse invoking challenge and fear is lost in a colorful, vibrant and forgiving world.

Story - Simply put, the story excels in this sequel with multiple story arcs through decision-making that can affect the outcome. Some characters have compelling dialogue and seem genuine, while others make you question whether they even want to exist. Ultimately, their fates end up in the protagonist's hands, being able to choose an answer to conversations that can define who lives and dies and the future of the city. Two factions go head-to-head, and it's up to you to pick which side will provide the narrative. From better combat mechanics to traversing the city with parkour gimmicks, advancing one faction can determine the perks you will receive throughout the game.

Gameplay - The parkour system is better than its predecessor. The fluidity of catching ledges, hiking up vehicles and hopping obstacles has never been smoother. Skill tree perks make for more interesting environment interactions. New mechanics such as paragliding make for some exciting and fun travel across the city.

Equipping stated gear has added an interesting new RPG aspect to the game. Some gear improves survival and exploration, some for bulking up and fighting better in close combat, and some for improved ranged performance.

However, combat has devolved to a slower pace. In fact, against most bandits you'll find it comparable to a "turn-based" game. You'll await a strike and dodge or parry the opponent, and then follow up with either striking or vaulting them to dropkick the enemy behind them. A.I. does not provide any real pressure, as only one tends to strike at a time. Zombies are slower this time around and pose no real danger as you hack and slash multiple zombies with a single hit. Their bites are slower, weaker, and generate no fear for the player. Even during the night hours of the game, most zombies aren't a threat and can be ignored.

Environment - There is definitely far more to see in this world than the original, and its teeming with both life and undead. Almost too much can be found in fact, as many buildings can be explored. Unfortunately, it begins to feel like a grind, and some areas will feel all too familiar and repetitive in nature. There's far too much that can be found, and the world begins to feel less apocalyptic and more a loot fest. Visually, everything is vibrant and colorful, which is the opposite of what you'd expect in a zombie apocalyptic world.

Audio - There's almost nothing negative to be said about the sounds and music in this title. Some familiar tracks will bring nostalgia, while some new ones will be uplifting and immersive.

    Final Score: 6/10.

It's a mixed bag. If you liked the rigidness of the first title in the franchise, slashing and shooting zombies with intensity and the gloom of the world, you may find this sequel to be a downgrade. On the other hand, if you prefer a more simplified approach to combat and exploring endless building interiors for loot, this might be the game for you.

This is an open world first person zombie game that took me about 20 hours to complete, and can be played wit up to 4 players co op… Youre a night runner, youre infected early on in the game which adds a layer of tenseness to the game which I loved, Theres a timer when youre in buildings or running around at night that have hav to keep filled with UV lights or the the sun so you don’t turn into a zombie.. this mechanic was never annoying.. in fact I never ran out of time, but I appreciate the level of immersion there… bevasue sadly this mechanic is where the immersion ends.. Like the original Dying light the world here just doesn’t feel lived in… it’s a mess zombie playground but even more lifeless than last time.. .a generic game world feel rather than again feeling like a world that used ti be brimming with life… I did love exploring the buildings during the main story missions, but nothing ever enticed me to seek things out on my own.. no addictive hook when it came to loot as every weapon breaks, theres nothing cool to find in this world, so why bother? Why not just stick to this super boring story? Which is what I did… One thing Dying Light 2 improved on is the flow of the parquor… It still needs works, its still frustrating at times, but it miles better than the original… and the combat is great too.. I loved getting into fights with my modded weapons, however the enemies this time around feel kind of brainless and just in the way rather than a threat like the past game.. and my biggest complaing.. I absolutely hated the second half of the game… running around in Dying Light 2 just isn’t fun… its not.. I feel like Im the only person who feels this way and I have no idea how.. I died more trying to get from point a to b, than I did the enemies once I finally got to the mission…
I would love a more mirrors edge / modern assins creed style system in the future because I dreaded having to run through this city in the second half.. I didn’t mind the first half of the game where building were low and close like an old school assassins creed game, but the larger city.. awful…
Overall Dying Light 2 is a fine game, its good, the combat is great, but the loot system is a disappointment and the story is just bad, it is.. I was non invested in the world at all…
Youll have fun going through the campaign, its just a shame nothing in the world entices you to explore or to care…
I give Dying Light 2: Stay Human
    a 7/10

This is a review of my single player mode experience. I beat the main story after ~25 hours and completed around half of the side quests and activities.

As a big fan of the first, (and gamer for nearly 20 years) I really wanted to love this game. Unfortunately, while not a "terrible" game as some reviews seem to suggest, there are enough disappointments that ruined the overall experience for me. I'll break it down into the main aspects:

Combat: While it flows smoothly and hit boxes seem accurate enough, it feels much more "cartoonish" and controlled than the first game and it lacks that same realistic grittiness from its predecessor. There are large health bars above enemy heads which makes it feel more like an arcade game than a realistic and immersive experience. For example: you whack an enemy in the head and rather than falling limply to the ground with a half-open scalp, he goes flying and spinning ten feet backwards in a ridiculous fashion. There are no guns in this game. Also, enemy levels and health scale with you as you progress, making weapon damage feel pointless. I never felt like I was actually doing more damage to enemies with a 120 dmg weapon vs a 60 dmg one.

Nighttime: Nighttime is totally different. No more " sneak past the Volatiles roaming the streets, get spotted, and run frantically towards the safe house". Now it's "avoid the howlers planted every twenty meters" and eventually "fly over everything with the paraglider" Night chases are not as fun as in the first, nor as intense/frightening.

Crafting: You can't craft weapons in this game. You can craft and stack various elements modifications and other items but can't make weapons or armor from scratch. You can't modify armor in any way. Only true "healing" item that can be crafted is your basic bandage, which takes about 4 seconds to use (wrapping animation, can't use weapons or run) I found this annoying in combat. Overall crafting was a letdown.

Map: Bigger than the main game in DL1; no buggies/open driving like in "The Following" DLC. Broken into two parts: the first part is similar to the second area of Harran from DL1 (smaller buildings, more open areas), while the second map has many large budlings and skyscrapers.

Parkour: The best part of the game by far. Movement is fluid, and traversing the city become easy and fun later on, especially when you upgrade the respective perks, like sliding, wall running, etc. (spoiler-ish) You get a paraglider and grappling hook at certain points in the story. The only real downside is that you can't run as fast as i would have hoped, at least not until you get a perk later on.

Story: I wouldn't call it "horrible", but definitely not good, not as interesting as the first game in my opinion. The first few hours had me interested enough, but things just seemed to take on a life of their own too quickly after that. The pacing feels "off". Sometimes i struggled to keep up with what was going on and other times i had to think back "why are we doing this again?" There are choices that effect the ending, but i found it hard to really care about any of the characters, since the game never sticks you with the same one long enough for you to get a true feel for them. There are many classic cliches as well, and many times where i found myself waiting for the inevitable "floor creaks and of course you fall through into zombie-infested room" sort of thing. Not "bad" per-se, just very tired and expected plot elements. Also, Aiden (your character) is kind of a little b**ch sometimes. I wish they made him more of a "badass", like a hardened zombie killer by the end of the game, or at least gave you the option of whether to freak about certain things. Like, this guy has been alone on the road for four years fighting off God-knows how many infected: why is he freaking out over four bumbling corpses coming at him?". Side quests aren't really anything special. After the first dozen-or-so I felt no drive to complete them other than the experience points.

Voice acting: Not terrible, but sometimes annoying. Some of the accents (American South, for instance) are just awful. Like, "when did we go from the middle east, to France, to Ireland, to some hillbilly backwoods in Georgia?" sort of thing. I found myself skipping through much of the dialogue just to get to the damn point. Facial animations are barely there: none of the characters felt "real" to me.

Music: Intro is definitely not as bangin' as the first game's, nothing else really stuck out. No more darkwave/synth wave, industrial stuff like in the first. In fact, i can't even remember any of the music, which tells me it wasn't that good.

Other annoyances: Aiden getting knocked down in every other cutscene by some generic a$$hat with a crowbar in the corner, because he didn't check behind the door (again).

Overall: 6/10. Maybe wait for a sal

The game is very good, but the fact that I can't play with my friends on ps4 ruined the experience. I'm playing alone because all my friends are on ps4 and only me on ps5. And downloading the ps4 version, the save is not shared between generations!

If this was a standalone game without a prequel I would have rated it a bit higher. But compared to the first entry of the series, this game is clearly inferior in terms of proper programming, attention to detail, atmosphere and fun factor:

What I like about the game:
+ The environments look kinda good from afar and the city architecture is quite nice - also it has a
    long drawing distance
+ the intro with the doomsday party is really cool and a nice set-piece is created here
+ the music overall sounds pretty awesome
    + parkouring feels quite smooth
+ no Italian dubbing; that language sounds quite weird thb ;)

and I guess that was that...Now what I DON'T LIKE:

    - game has really bad AI especially for human NPCs (randomly attacking me and not attacking me;
them running away from me and stopping again looks kinda silly; they also don't respect the
pathing of other NPCs, i.e. they don't move around each other properly)
    - objects in the world can hardly be interacted with, i.e. they can't be destroyed or tempered with (in
the 1st game, you could party destroy objects inside of buildings for instance
    - The zombie animations upon them getting hit are not as versatile as in the first game; also there are
no x-ray effects and there's no more cutting out a bit of flesh at the hips (lol) like you could in the
first one --> overall less gore and worse ragdoll physics - also enemies sometimes are whirled
through the air upon relatively weak hits
    - many clipping errors, like groups of zombies constantly clipping into each other
    - some really hilarious bugs like a human spinning his torso like he wanted to imitate the exorcism of
Emily Rose (actually this is more what I like about the game because it made me laugh pretty hard)
    - I really don't care about the story, and the protagonist (so far); also I don't like that they seemingly
    put quantity over quality and just wanted to have a really long (tedious) story;
    - the graphic style is too colourful in general; the first one just had a better and more oppressing and
therefore fitting (when talking about a zombie apocalypse) vibe and atmosphere to it

In a nutshell, I wouldn't recommend the game to lovers of the first game. Again, that depends on what kind of aspects you loved about the first game. If you mainly liked the parkouring and the crafting aspect of the DL1, this could be for you. But in Dying Light 2, too many compromises were made, which doesn't make for as raw and intense of an experience as the first game was. On top of that the programming in general seems flawed in this one and there is not enough attention to detail

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Dying Light 2 is the best game to come out in a very long time, however, the story was up there with one of the worst I've ever experienced in gaming. The exploration and overall content in DL2 is incredible, there is vast amounts to explore, loot, and kill. This is why the game really gets a good rating from me, I'm all about open-world exploration, paving my own way, and discovering things for myself.

Although it may appear I'm being rather generous with a 7/10, the exploration of the city had me constantly coming home from work and switching on my PS5 to experience more. Despite all the positives, the largest and personally the only real glaring issue with the game is the main storyline, which the only thing going for it was the likable/dislikable characters that kept you constantly having to judge whether they were going to betray you or stick with you.

The story constantly introduced new concepts/situations but never expands on them, even after the epilogue. Take Waltz, for example, you finally encounter him in the car factory, in which he turns into some odd type of infected with incredible abilities and chases you BUT the back story of how Waltz and Aiden have these abilities are never explained. This similar issue appears with the "Butcher", you hear about him constantly and how big and bad he is, yet when you meet him he's actually pretty nice, you can side with him and he sends you on his way, in which you then never see him again, which amasses a total 5 minutes.

The final boss fight has also taken the throne for being one of the worst I have ever experienced. Cutscene, fight, cutscene, fight, cutscene, fight, cutscene, fight. An incredibly unrewarding and shallow fight, in which Waltz simply stood there and sponged hits, occasionally attacking you with 1 of 3 different styles.

The ultimate complaint from myself, however, has to be Aiden passing out every 20 seconds, I understand that it was supposed to be due to his infection, but it just felt like lazy writing. Almost every cutscene he would either be punched or simply pass out, for him to then conveniently teleport to the next sequence. Instead of adapting in scenarios where Aiden hauls himself out of a dangerous situation, he would simply pass out and appear exactly where the story needed him to be, it was incredibly boring and honestly painful to play along later in the game. In the final epilogue, I couldn't help myself but count how many times he passed out... 8 times!

Other more personal issues for me included the ridiculously long prologue, seriously two-hour prologues are just ridiculous. DL1 threw you right in the deep end, whereas slowly walking through the mountains felt a lot more like I was having my handheld being slowly drip-fed into the game.

The "zombies" and other opponents have awful AI and lend almost nothing of interest to the story or gameplay other than being the conceptual backdrop for the game.

The voice acting is something you'd expect from a group of 5-year olds trying to sound like bad guys. It's so bad that I'm embarrassed every time someone speaks in this game. That's totally unacceptable in these modern times, where so many games in this price range have an excellent and thoughtfully crafted story, script and voice actors.

The mildly unique fighting/movement stuff isn't anywhere near interesting enough to anchor an otherwise silly, boring and sloppily produced game. I'm not investing any more of time into this stinker.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Changed my rating. This game is mediocre at best. RPG elements only work when the story is good so you care about the outcome. I simply don’t care what do I have to fetch or who do I have to save anymore. It’s Farcry 6.5 zombie edition or dying light for 10 year olds rather. Parkour is improved but somehow still less fun than the first game. The heart pumping action where you’re running from volatiles through the slums of Harran is just missing. Chases are still there but somehow it feels empty and lacklustre. Again, this is a last gen game with makeup on. Getting a bit sick and tired of those.Co-op is still fun. Techland has managed to take a lot of what worked with the first game and either remove it or make it worse. The result is a game that is nowhere near as fun to play as the first game.

This game at release is not just a disappointment but a deception. I cannot understand why they choose to market this game years ahead of its release while delivering such a mess of a game

Here's an idea: Why don't you focus on making a competent game first and then take it to market. It's like the people at Techland that have been hyping the game years in advance and selling promises of greatness have never actually played it or had any first-hand experience with the game. They’re just quoting from a script of ‘key features’ and ‘unique selling points’ that’s been cooked up for them…

I heard that the CEO is obsessed with copying other AAA devs like ubisoft, EA and CD Projekt Red which explains a lot. That, coupled with egos and bad eggs in leadership roles at Techland (according to many interviews/articles) that are blocking good ideas and insisting on their own, has left players with a confused and mediocre experience.

The best thing that could happen to this franchise now is if Techland sell the IP to a competent dev such as Kojima studios, Naughty Dog (Pre-TLOU2) or Fromsoft and then we might finally see an open-world Zombie parkour experience realised anywhere near close to it's potential.

If Techland were to make another game after this, please just play to your strengths. You've hampered both games down to mediocre uninteresting stories with bad writing and voice work. Ditch the 'Story-driven experience' and just make a gamers game. Base building, scavenging, defending against zombie hordes, other factions, fun character progression/customisation, and just let players create their own story in the world. You could do this in 3 years, not 7.

Also coop is currently broken and when it is working it’s not very fun. Instance after instance. Go somewhere, talk to person - ’waiting for players to proceed’, go to door - ’waiting for players to proceed’ - Go fetch item - ’waiting for players to proceed’, and on it goes…

    Pros:

⁃ Parkour is still largely satisfying and more versatile than first game
⁃ Added some cool parkour combat moves
⁃ Some good world design here
⁃ Perfomance mode on PS5 is mostly stable 60 fps
⁃ Gameplay flows a bit better between day and night (imo)

    Cons:

⁃ Some parkour animations have been redone but are worse - ‘Slide’, Grapple’ etc
⁃ Combat is repetitive and unsatisfying - Worse than first game
    ⁃ Ragdoll physics worse
⁃ Story and writing is painful
    ⁃ Too many cutscenes
⁃ Character dialogue rambles on (what could be said in 15 seconds takes 3 minutes)
⁃ Coop is broken/buggy at launch
⁃ Coop boils down to running from instance to instance. Can’t even spot/mark things for each other
⁃ Exploration of map inline with Ubisoft games - Mark an icon on the map and run to it
⁃ Bugs for days… All the same bugs that were in the first game still remain here 7 years later (How has this not been picked up on? Since you supported the first game for 5 years after launch. How are these same bugs here again?)
⁃ X-ray feature in combat removed
⁃ Moon gravity with parkour and combat. Everything feels ‘weightless’
⁃ Many standard ‘Quality of life” elements from other open-world games are not here
⁃ Menus are frustrating to navigate
⁃ Game is littered with bad game design choices
⁃ Story faction choices are underwhelming. Only a few make a difference, the rest are pointless
⁃ Removed survivor skill tree when it would have carried over to this game just fine.
⁃ Character progression and skill trees not as satisfying
⁃ 1080p 60fps on PS5 (thought we were past this?)
⁃ Removed volatiles and any threat from night time (Need to make a lvl 4 chase happen to see them)
⁃ Sun-baked lighting from first game is gone. Lighting feels flat and you can no longer ‘feel’ the sun going down and night coming like the first game.
⁃ Graphics look outdated (More PS4 than PS5)
⁃ Can’t repair weapons ⁃ Only 1 weapon moveset across all weapons - left…right… (What a missed opportunity) ⁃ Aiden is the exact the same character as Kyle Crane ⁃ Story and quest design is outdated (ok in 2015, not in 2022) ⁃ Enemy variety and attacks are same and boring to fight ⁃ All weapons handle the same and feel generic It sounds like they’re strived so hard to be a AAA studio and release a AAA game, and they might have just achieved it, but that’s not a good thing imo…

The parkour is absolutely fabulous and feels so fun to just jump from roof to roof or use any assortment of traversal mechanics. The design of Villedor is amazing and feels very lived in, The choice and consequence mechanic they used in marketing is so well done and thought out and makes me more invested in the story. The choices you make have an impact on the world you are playing in and you can definitely feel it.

    Cons-
Sometimes the writing in the story feels a bit clumsy and can take away from serious moments. The voice acting outside of the main cast is a hit or miss and ruins the sense of immersion. The skill tree and leveling up system in the game feels a bit unbalanced especially early on in the game (like locking off wall-running or other skills that should have been part of the basic move-set). I also experienced some bugs and a few crashes but nothing game breaking.

    Conclusion-
The sheer ambition that Techland was going for in Dying Light 2 is something that needs to be praised. This game is gorgeous and is a blast to play. I have so much fun just running around Villedor and taking out infected and other bandits, The story is a bit hit or miss and sometimes the bad writing can let down an otherwise impactful scene but I had so much fun playing the game I can't say it was a deal breaker. If you loved the original then you will love this one and even if you didn't there is so much fun to be had here

Plus its DYING LIGHT. Light does not feel precious as it did in the first one. Day time has its moments and you can get into trouble. But day time is bliss. Light is safe. The shadows in the first one are scarier. You play in them too long and suddenly you look into the light to gauge how much time you have left before you NEED to run. The world feels safe but dry with that sun high in the sky. And as it wanes and sets the pressure is on. Not by some stupid artificially imposed timer either. Horrible choice there. HORRIBLE. But the light in the first game felt like it WAS DYING. I cannot express how much I loved the atmosphere of the first game.

This second one has none of that. Day time is a total joke. Night isn't that bad. The only thing I hated at night is the damn timer.

And no fixing weapons?? Why? There are so many other things I cannot understand or fathom. Bad dev choices.

Compared to other games like TLOU2 this look very bad. The visual presentations in last year’s trailers were a lie!
    - I have encountered many bugs during gameplay (spawning, performance issues, some crashes etc.)
    - The campaign has a very promising start, story feels interesting. Later, especially at the end and it turns out to be very silly. Almost like a Brazilian soap opera.
    - There are many stupid cut scenes in which other opponents appear out of nowhere and you lose your advantages.
    - NPC-s are unable to follow you on mission, after a cutscene they teleport to next meeting location, where they need to teleport again.
    - RPG elements are mediocre.
    - There aren't many infected on the streets, which is awkward.
    - DL1 felt so much better.
    - Side missions are boring.
    - Stealth elements are meh.

Overall, I feel let down, as I was very hyped to play it.

My final verdict is that I cannot recommend it on full price, this game need 12 months’ worth of patch and a great discount.

I'm about 16 hours in and the game is pretty good, I'm sure it can become exceptional with some more support. I haven't seen any serious bugs nor there are any crashes. Sure, there are some glitches and things to fix and improve, but noting really major.
I'm disappointed that this parasite Denuvo was included last minute, I hate the fact that even a cent of my money went into their account.

I also feel the game engine is not the best. 1080p60 in performance mode runs mostly flawless but honestly the game looks bad in comparison to early trailers and for that it performs not well enough. The story writing is pretty bland and after a while you feel like re-visiting the same places over and over again making it a slightly run down experience. Enemy variety is pretty poor, same goes to the equipment variety. At least the weapons are somewhat satisfying.

The game lacks a lot quality of life improvements, e.g. remember the filters I set in the inventory because I dont want to set it for the 100th time, why do I need to switch on my light over and over again etc. Bragging with 500hrs of playtime was honestly a silly move to because it is one of the few modern the game where: you cant max stats no matter how long you play, you get locked out of collectibles which you cannot re-visit after the game ends and there are also some trophies that are plain stupid, e.g. millionaire or running 960km.

In general the combat and gore was satisfying. I did like some of the characters and the weapons pulled my score up but after all you should wait and buy the game at a sale of at least 50%. For germans that might consider buying the cut version - dont do it, get the uncut disc version because honestly the bloody part is one of the essentials and you will miss out big time.

Okay, this game is absolutely NOT as bad as the people claim here. Is it as good or better than Dying Light 1? The answer is NO! It is NOT as good, let alone better, but it doesn't mean this is a bad game.

The parkour, fights are evolved, maybe even too much, but they are great and in their place.

The story is mediocre at best, nothing interesting whatsoever.

The level choice is really bad, every part of the city looks exactly the same. "Realism" shouldn't be placed before game experience.

Game mechanism is weak, nothing evolved besides fights and parkour, and even part of the zombie / fight physics are downgraded for reasons beyond comprehension. There are rumours circulating about key staff leaving due to whatever reasons, and I'm absolutely sure that this was the main problem of why it failed to achieve the glory of DL1, let alone to evolve beyond it.

You'd expect vehicles, base building, travelling in a huge map to different cities, towns, resource management, missions with companions you select, etc., and at least as much genius storytelling as in DL1 (side mission included), but no, nothing sort of that, a huge part of the game is pretty much sank into mediocrity, despite the fact that there is already a brutally good game set as an example you just have to follow (DL1)...

To think about the money those developers got who don't even like the game at all... Such a waste.

HOWEVER, this doesn't mean that this is a particularly bad game and that you won't enjoy it. You will. This game still good and still rocks, and the best news is that there is a modding community which pretty much fixed every gameplay / game mechanics flaws, for free (think about the game developers again). Years of years of development, tons of wasted money, only to see your utter idiocy (bad physics, weak, few zeds, etc.) getting fixed in a couple of weeks by modders for free...

There are 2 things I can't forgive to this game: it is NOT scary anymore. Do you remember yourself screaming during night missions in DL1? Well, here you won't...

The second part is the music. I was so excited to get something like in DL1 (which I listening even to this day), that I was almost more excited for the music than for the game, but what we got is next to nothing. Most of the less popular youtubers could have done a better job for free... Man, these guys...

I don't know what is with all these game developers (and also movie makers) nowadays but they clearly NOT worthy of their money, they just ripping off the company they working for.

Bud just buy the game, install the mods, and you will gonna have a decent experience. Epic zed battles await you which will never get old.

Oh, and those complaining about graphics and performance, you guys should really stop using cracked games, quit watching porn, and run an anti-malware software. You ALL gonna be surprised.

This time its in your combat and quests and proves just how sloppy the mechanics can be.

In summary, this game is a more grindy version of the one I loved with attempts to revamp that just fall flat. Yea, its similar in some ways, but its added new features that just dampen the experience.

God of War: "Keep your expectations low and you will never be disappointed."

But no the game has no personality unlike dying light 1 the dark tones fit the atmosphere the parkour was fast and sleek when you got out of a hoard you actually felt pheww. When you did rooftop parkour it was scary cause if you fell down you're done. But yeah the game feels like it lacks ambient occlusion, antialiasing, fog and resolution is the biggest problem. Also very few godrays when it should be lathered with it. The render distance is bad and popping is prominent I would not buy this game for 60 bucks for these features alone. It took rockstar games 7 years to make red dead 2 so did it took to make dying light 2 and the game is 6 to 7 times bigger than dying light 2 but also with phenomenal graphics bare in mind it released on last gen and it has better graphics. Of course you can argue that techland is way smaller company but there world is also way smaller we arent asking for much anyway we are asking for a open world game which looks good not ultra detailed but at least looks somewhat next gen and it looks like a ps3 game far cry 2 had better textures than this. Moving on to gameplay the parkour is horrible, its floaty, its slow, its clunky, you get stuck on objects basically everything but dying light. After that is the stupid paraglider which doesn't obey laws of physics when you pull the glider down it goes up 5 ft like what, newton must be turning in his grave, it also dosen't help that it removes all the anxiety and thrill you had while doing parkour on rooftops. The combat is hilariously boring the melee or whatever is not good also the zombies are less scary . The protagonist has powers now? well what the hell why not make me a mutant with big claws and giant teeth looking like black ops zombie please dont put supernatural elements in your game I like humans you know people liked the older characters bcz it was something they can relate to. I and I can barely relate to this protagonist aiden bcz he is a mutant or whatever he is. The story and the writing are gonna be watch dogs 2 level was known since we watched the first gameplay trailer. Where the girl says yes we did it with the most uninspired voice ever how can you like the game when the va have no passion or intrest whether the emotion is being expressed or not. The system of choosing sides is the most boring system I was like yeah whatever. Also people keep saying this about far cry games that its more of the same and this game is like less of the same not in a good way but bad. Characters enviroment and physics all have been downgraded its less of the same and barely had anything good from the last game. AI also terrible sometimes they see you other times you will be in front of them but nothing happens. Did this game left impact on me? yes its terrible story left a impact on me and made me understand that everyone cant be a writer hahaha. Jokes aside it has nothing on the name of impact and watch dogs 2 probably made me feel more impacted than this. This game made me realise that preordering any new games was a mistake. Before I go this game has tons of bugs as much as gta defnitive edition Expand

At the time of writing this review, the user score stands at 5.9 which is way too low for this game. Most low scores are driven by people whom act from emotion, and haven’t played the game properly yet.

Before mentioning the story, I want to start off with the gameplay. After playing for several hours, I found the gameplay to be quite satisfying, but it was not perfect in my opinion. It does make the game more challenging with the stamina implementation towards doing parkour, but it was quite annoying climbing tall buildings and running out of stamina just to instantly die from falling. Stamina was not just a problem, climbing itself did prove to be hard considering the instances when I wanted to jump to another platform, but because of how much the screen moves with every movement your characters head does, I would miss several platforms to grab onto and die instantly from falling or the zombies would catch up and kill me, or even the bows, Molotov's, and other various projectiles being flung at my character. There were also tedious moments when I wanted to climb a specific object ingame and my character would not wanna climb, perhaps it was because of how he was positioned, but at times it was frustrating trying to find a spot to climb up a building with the little time I had before enemies caught up.

The combat is extremely fun, and once you unlock a lot of skills. You can easily cheese your way through the game. I was level 3 and I headed towards a level 5-6 enemy base to capture and I kept drop kicking enemies off the building instantly killing them. Same went for other instances when I'm just running on the roof tops and an enemy is straight ahead. I would drop kick not just one, but two enemies in a single blow off the roof.

The environment was pretty cool, I had much more options than the first game when it came to running away from things or trying to get somewhere. Although as much as I liked the games overall design. It was annoying running on a roof top and being completely blind because a tree was blocking my view of where I was going.

Story wise, it was pretty generic. The choices you made did little to nothing, and I'm not sure what I did wrong from the beginning of the game, but for some reason every npc who wasn't trying to help me. Were rude, and mean towards the main character, which was completely weird considering how I helped a settlement from a renegade attack once, and then a side quest had me go back to that settlement and one of the npcs said "Where were you when the island was attacked?". Then proceeded to degrade my character which totally through me off. Considering how it's a zombie apocalypse and I do understand that people would be living on edge, I don't know why even after helping some npcs you're still treated like garbage. So at the end of the day, any choice you make doesn't affect how npcs view your character in a big impactful way.

Aiden, the main character is the single most generic, naive, bold and clueless character I have played as in awhile. When an npc is actually being helpful and nice, he would rudely push for his agenda and the game doesn't let you decide how you respond to someone in game either. The character has zero development throughout the story as well. He is either dumb and letting people use him, or just a rude character pushing for his agenda which I understand because he is looking for someone important to him, but still. He has no sense of just listening to someone.

7/10 because I subtracted points for having a generic MC, annoying parkour physics, and poorly written story.

I do enjoy my time playing Dying Light 2 but it is more of a time wasting experience than anything I am going to want to talk to my friends about.

The first game was one of my favorites. The first game started with a feeling of being totally outnumbered. My only point of improvement in Dying Light 2 was the parkour. I found everything else to be uninspiring and a little dull. Although I completed the game to the end, I don't see myself returning to it, unlike Dying Light 1.

This review is based on the PS5 v1.005.000 of the game.

A warning in advance: If you have a 4K TV, I can only advise you NOT to get the PS5 version of the game. The visual quality on such a TV is not good with any of the possible settings, at best you can speak of "mediocre". Overall experience: 6/10

The "resolution" setting only delivers 30 FPS at a fixed resolution of 1800p, which is hardly bearable due to the camera settings and the fast gameplay in this game.
The "quality" setting with ray tracing only delivers 1080p at 30 FPS and is thus a disaster in terms of both resolution and performance.
That leaves the "performance" setting with 1080p and 60 FPS, which I decided on in the end.
But the game simply doesn't have a mode for the PS5 that doesn't have serious drawbacks.

Unfortunately, the overall immersion suffers from various visual problems, glitches and bugs.
Textures are sometimes extremely low-resolution, as are shadows, reflections are flickering etc. This is immediately noticed negatively in the game without having to pay special attention to it.
But also many other standard elements like grass and water sometimes look really bad and are not state of the art.

The PC version shows in some aspects that it can be done differently, so unfortunately you have to come to the conclusion that the game is (currently) poorly optimized for the PS5.

The game currently also still has quite a few embarrassing bugs, nevertheless that 2 patches have already been released.
It starts with annoying but harmless bugs, like achievements not working and ends with bugs where you have to reload the last save game because your character or a boss is stuck somewhere in the world.
Other bugs, such as the flame of candles sometimes burning far away from the wick, unfortunately destroy the overall immersion.

In terms of immersion, it is also noticeable in a negative way that entire level sections and other elements in the world have been copied 1:1.
It is pretty boring when you arrive at the second subway station in the lowest level, and it is identical to the lowest level of the last subway station you've already cleared.

The overall gameplay experience imho is worse than in Dying Light 1. For example, they incomprehensibly removed the skill with which you can camouflage yourself against zombies. Overall, the entire stealth mechanic is poorly implemented and it practically never makes sense or is fun to sneak through a level.

Similarly, the entire skill tree has been significantly reduced compared to DL1. This makes leveling up much less interesting.

The overall atmosphere of the game could be very good, if it weren't for all the problems described.

Perhaps worth mentioning: I didn't enjoy DL2's new combat mechanics any more or less compared to DL1. That is, in my opinion, the new mechanics like blocking attacks don't bring much to the table.

Despite all these issues, the game was fun to a certain degree. It certainly would have had the potential to be a great game, but unfortunately it is not.

I was expecting a lot from this game considering how much the first one managed to stay in my memory as one of my favorite coop games ever played. I was expecting a lot from this game considering how much the first one managed to stay in my memory as one of my favorite coop games ever played. It turns out that DL2 has not followed the same path. While I still enjoyed playing it with three of my friends, it failed to impress me in the following matters.

First, the ambiance is way less dark than in DL1. The game has less surprises, is de facto more predictable or even excessively repetitive and fails to make the player feel any tension.

That leads me to my second point being the gameplay and more specifically the combat. It is just so messy and less refined than in DL1 (less mods, less animations, less satisfying-to-smash moments).

Third, let us talk about the unacceptable amount of bugs/glitches in this game. There are so many of them and while some are funny, the vast majority are penalizing. Constant moans from your friends’ characters during 80% of the time (I swear, so many moments during which the game wants the climax to be serious/tense/sad and then you hear « uh eh oh uh uuuh » 24/7 in the background); a black screen during the second most important cutscene of the game, countless amounts of totally weird transitions with crazy long loading times… The list is too long.

I am also deeply disappointed by the story of this game. It had so much potential but it feels savagely rushed. By the end of the game, some important events happen and the storytelling completely omits to mention the fate of numerous important characters of the game, including the most important of them all depending on the ending you might get.

The world of the game is cool, I really loved to be able to parkour everywhere again, but as opposed to DL1, here I noticed a lot of building recycling, and overall less detail. I will not sell the game because I want it to be properly patched, and even expanded to add its – litteraly – missing pieces.

Note that I played the whole game in coop. My whole review is thus based on my coop experience. Furthermore, by reading me, you might think I only state the negative stuff, and I do, but that is specifically because I fundamentally love this game. It feels like being harsh with a child you still love nevertheless. A child with a lot of potential but who f’d up hard. Its core features are still marvelous, but I expected so much more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As someone who absolutely loves the first Dying light game i can't help but feel disappointed after playing this game. Before i list my pros and cons of the game i want to remind that i played around 30 hours of this game, finished the campaign, did some side quests, found a lot of the upgrades and skills and did some free running. I played this on my ps5.

    Pros:

Graphics are imo pretty good. I've seen a lot of people saying the graphics are bad but i think they look overall pretty good, they could be better but they did not bother me in the game.

The crafting system is pretty good and simple to get the hang of.

The paraglider is really fun and useful and works great in the second map.

The second map that you unlock is insanely fun to play in. The high colorful buildings are great and varied.

    Cons:

The story. Yes the story in the first game was also bad but the fun gameplay made up for it but not this time. Considering Techland put so much emphasis on the story when they marketed the game so to see it turn out like this is disappointing. Characters are pointless, boring and forgettable. Hakon was nice but disappears after the half way point and only comes in the end to betray you for no good reason and he is immediately forgiven for this, Lawan is also a character who comes along your journey and does stupid decisions and gets pissy when you call her out for them and gets herself in trouble constantly even if we tell her not to do things that get her in said troubles. Also choices don't really matter at all, no matter what you do Aiden's sister dies in the end so the whole point of the game is pretty much pointless. The only thing your decisions change is who comes with you in the ending, either you're alone, with Hakon or with Lawan, all of which are not satisfying options. Also there are very little connections to the characters from the first game, only one being Spike.

Combat. The gameplay feels overall a downgrade from the first game in almost every way. The combat in this game feels slow, sluggish, unsatisfying and clunky. Zombies and humans half the time ignore or don't react to your attacks at all. Normal zombies aren't a threat almost at all, the humans on the other hand are stupid persistent and gang up on you and lock in their combo attacks constantly so fighting becomes more of a nuisance than a fun challenge. Also there are no more guns in the game aside from a bow, crossbow and a makeshift gun that break after a couple of shots. Who makes a zombie game without guns!? And for some reason the dropkick feels weird cause human enemies can block it and after you do the kick your character lies in the ground and gets back up so slowly that the enemies can just gang up on you while your still in the ground, so it becomes a liability more than a trusty power move.

Parkour. Why is it so SLOW!? Jumping is too floaty and mid air control feels horrible. For some reason they added a climbing stamina bar but took out running stamina bar, like why!? Limiting the amount of parkouring you can do in a parkour game is a bad idea and this frustrated me so much especially in the early game when my character could not even climb a billboard because his stamina ran out. It was a **** addition and i hate it. Also why is the character always running but can't run in most of the safe zones even if there aren't even any npcs in them? Overall a downgrade in almost every way from the first game.

The final boss is complete garbage. It is a buggy glitchy mess and the boss is a complete bullet sponge with bs combos that lock you in place. I honestly prefer the final boss from the first game which is also ass.

Bugs and glitches. They are everywhere: textures not showing, lip-syncing not working, character pathing gone wrong, enemies getting inside solid objects so you have to restart the game to start everything again, also happened in the final boss phase 3, collision not working, physics not working, parkour not grabbing what you are trying to grab, double jump not working and many more.

The nights. Volatiles only come out in high level chases in the overworld so they are almost never seen. Streets are ass during the night cause howlers are everywhere and alert all zombies after you. The night time meter also suck cause it limits your night exploration and it's just another pointless micromanagement. They ruined the selling point of the series that being "night is scary and beware" now they are just annoying and frustrating.

also they removed the survivor skill tree, repairing weapons, first map is boring and sucks and dismemberment is severely downgraded.

The game needed atleast another year of two in development to iron out the numerous bugs and glitches. I suggest you wait atleast 6 months for them to fix the glitches and wait for a sale. The first game was amazing and this game is worse in almost every way. This game is not horrible but it's not even close to the first game.

It's a mediocre game compared to the first one. Despite a few improvements to parkour, the first game is better in almost every way. The game's optimization is awful, it requires a high-end pc, but it doesn't even deliver the next-gen graphics to justify it. Forgettable.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am absolutely disappointed in this game. Besides the countless glitches, my game has crashed three times, I've fallen through the map twice, the parkour mechanics are all over the place; I've died more times by slips and falls than zombies and human enemies attacks because Aiden falls whenever he jumps onto something; trying to jump onto a ledge is a major project at times because he always jumps to the side instead of in front of him. Some of the side missions which required Aiden to make a choice were bugged- no audio and no subtitles, so I had NO idea what the **** was going on!

And now, my game is broken. I am stuck at the story quest of The Colonel, the mission after meeting Juan at his hideout does not appear. I also cannot sleep in any safe zone; I get the message that I cannot sleep because it's not safe. I cannot progress through the story because the missions are NOT appearing! I restarted the game three times and I am still not seeing any story quest missions. So I am UNABLE to play the game. I never had any problems playing the first Dying Light. This game should have NEVER been released!! GARBAGE!!

This is a solid game and well deserved high rating. The graphics flow well, the scenery is amazing and the zombies are relentless. My wife asked what movie I was watching. R1 button to jump takes getting used to (again) and there are some plot lines that miss the mark or logic meter I would say but nothing that ruins the game. Well worth a ur Jade-a pod the upsells on gear-you do t need them.

Dying Light 2: Stay Human looks more like a DLC to the first game than a whole new one. This does not mean it is a bad game, but it is not one that you should rush to buy. It looks and feels like you are playing the same Dying Light from years ago, and despite the storytelling being solid and entertaining, it is not enough to justify buying it right now.

Delivering a huge improvement on the first title, but lacking with new features, Dying Light 2 Stay Human is quite fun, brutal, rewarding and a game of exceptional quality when it comes to the open world. Minor issues still exist here, but Techland successfully manages to live up to the hype surrounding the game.

Dying Light 2 ups the ante from the original in almost every way, offering more satisfying parkour, combat and enough jump scares to make you never want to walk in the darkness ever again. A worthy and essential sequel.
