Review gets a 1 because I have seen worse. This recent patch however gutted ever class, but the weakest class in the game took the biggest hit. I log in only to find my Sorc doing 80% less damage than before the patch. This isn't playable, and judging at how long it takes them to fix something (if they even fix it), I'll be long done with D4 before that day comes.

It goes to show that Blizzard does not respect the player's time. It really seems like they did their best to increase the in-game time by dragging the game out just so they can show their stakeholders increased hours played. Oh nelly will this ever backfire on them.

The game is too grindy and the latest update makes progress even slower. 100+ hours to max level when there is no build variety and itemization is very poor. I have a PS5 and I am a casual player. I am about to buy a PC so I can play Last Epoch and PoE2.

I have no doubt that Diablo 4 is one of the best games of 2026, today it's not this day.

Blizzard deploys nonsensical patches that break the underlying mechanics of the game and in doing so ensures that it has no long-term playability. Why would anyone invest time in this game if they're just going to casually break whatever you've built to juice some internal KPI with a complete disregard for whether or not it makes the actual game fun to play?

They've destroyed almost everyones will and motivation (including mine) to play Diablo IV. Patch 1.1 should've existed out of QoL and/or harder content such as torment 5, 6, or above.
But instead they nerfed the classes into oblivion where as the sorcerer is not even playable anymore.
Blizzard as a company is out of touch, and has lost complete sense of feel or connection with the playerbase.

Just as many others have already said - The game is pretty but also soulless and boring. The non-stop waves and hordes of enemies isn't fun in the slightest bit. You just mash and click buttons until the vague and mostly indistinguishable moving objects surrounding you stop moving. Then you pick up the largely useless gold and items that don't really help you in any significant way. I wasJust as many others have already said - The game is pretty but also soulless and boring. Then you pick up the largely useless gold and items that don't really help you in any significant way. I was fully kitted out with yellow items top to bottom by level 14. What's even the point of blue items? And really, even the yellow items aren't usually all that special.
Diablo I and II were insanely fun games. There was a formula that worked so well that people literally played them for years and even decades (D2). DIII was ok-ish but everyone knew D2 was better. How can the developers at Blizzard be so obtuse? Why make moving through the game so mind numbing? Why get rid of the value of gold? Why not make yellow (and orange) items hard to find and worth it when they are? Why make enemy combat an endless, confusing button smash slog? I literally can't tell what most enemies look like or what they're even doing to me. It's just visual noise.
Why was D2 so much better than D1? Because it was bigger and gave us more characters. Sure there was some pretty cool innovation with the gems and rune system but the basic game play didn't change.
I feel like D4 is a pretty looking Diablo clone that got all the reasons why Diablo was so fun completely wrong. This kind of misstep would be ok if these games came out every 5 years. But to wait almost 12 years? For this? It's just flat out unacceptable.

As a casual gamer, I can't spend hours every day just farming for a RNG chance at getting better loot. I swear I scrap 99% of what is dropping. Also, if you don't use a few meta builds you're experience will be much worse, especially after they nerfed pretty much every aspect forcing you to spend even more time farming loot. The cost of rebuilding your character to try new things is only possible if you, once again play 10+hours a day and even then is just ridiculous. They had 3 previous games to build off of but decided they wanted to shoot for a more AARPG/MMO style game but then start taking out multiplayer aspects because they decided a small percent of players are leveling too fast and shining a spotlight on the fact they biffed the endgame? So the decision was to make leveling even worse for others so they dont have a chance to get there? Lackluster, repetitive, and "open world" in the sense that the game makes you walk forever. This game feels like Blizzard updated the assets on an unfinished Diablo II sequel, and added concepts to the game without understanding how to make them good, and launched it onto unstable servers. The Shop, where for $25 (40% of the game's cost) you can buy a skin, is relatively stable.

-Talent tree and entire UI is ugly and convoluted. It's a quest to find your quests.
    - The monsters are the same the entire game. No fun / new mechanics to learn to dodge, no upgraded or variations, just the same guys over and over and over and over.
    - Completely unnecessary 'open world' with mounts - It's just boring filler Blizzard requires you to go through for no reason
    - Dumbest people - Not a single person has common sense. Every person who walks into a cellar, or goes down a ladder is inevitably caught by demons and needs to be saved. Sure, my main goes into those cellars, but is also capable of killing his way out.

If you know the franchise, then chances are you'll get through the main story line, start the next difficulty, and then quickly taper off. This game needs a FFXIV revamp - take it off the market, apologize to the player base, and develop a game that's good - otherwise it'll be a disappointment to the franchise, but at least removes the temptation to stay inside this summer.

Here is another "review bomb" according to some streamers.

Overall, I just didn't enjoy much of D4. From the campaign to the end-game, it never felt enjoyable mainly because the gameplay itself just isn't enjoyable.

Before the game even came out, i was very annoyed by yes, A PREDATORY, practice of charging 20 dollars extra for early access with a hardcore race behind it to FOMO consumers. Anyone who doesn't think this is a scummy, predatory practice is a corporate shill.

Campaign was extremely easy. I played a Rend Barbarian. The scaling world felt as though as completely side quests, strongholds, or farming dungeons was pretty meaningless as the scaling would just diminish that effort. So I just went straight through the campaign only to be extremely underleveled when fighting Lillith cause apparently that just didnt scale for some reason? I fought her at level 36 or 37, still one shot it because the game is very easy. Overall, the story, voice acting, and graphics were good but it was boring gameplay. I'd give the campaign a 6/10. I dont particularly like campaigns in general. It wasn't the worst, but it wasn't Halo 2 on Legendary.

The combat is more of the same as the last versions of Diablo and in some ways worse. You only have 6 abilities, 4 of the Barbarians spells are nearly essential lock-ins for buff, then you need one builder and one spender. This is across every build Barb has to offer. You press two buttons with some buffs. One you level up you can almost drop your spender because your shouts generate all your rage but most still keep it just in case. You really can't really afford to take leap, charge, steel grasp or anything fun really. Just buff, build, then spend. Was pretty silly that my D2 Barbarian had more spells to use than my D4 barbarian. I haven't played PoE and quit D3 probably after a month or playing it because the RMAH. However, it is crazy to me that in 23 years, I have less abilities in a game to use that is a ARPG. Combat for me is easily a 1/10, I can't imagine a worse action game then pressing 1 combat ability 95% of the time. This was acceptable 20 years ago, not now.

The gearing system leaves a lot to be desired, its not terrible so to speak but there are glaring issues. Nearly every build prioritizes Vulnerability, Crit, Crit %, and CDR. Resists are utterly useless. Gems have no use beyond your first 10 royals. Acquiring the gear is best done by doing half of a dungeon then resetting the dungeon. This makes for a very repetitive and unfun game loop of pressing one button for two minutes then reset and do 20s of load screens. I'd give gearing a 5/10.

The dungeon system was terrible. There are 100s of dungeons to do but you really should only do 2-3 because they are SO far ahead in terms of XP per hour you are wasting your time if you are not. Not to mention, most dungeons are crazy similar in their mechanics (kill all mobs, bring two boxes to holders, etc.) and end bosses of dungeons are pretty lame. Nightmare dungeons were a bit more fun cause the scaling made them more difficult but the rewards just aren't there to justify doing them. I'd give this a 3/10.

The world content varied greatly. Strongholds were amazing. Statues of Lilith / Renown grind was an insane grind and not very exciting outside Strongholds. World bosses were a complete joke. Side quests were mediocre, not much there. The horse is really bugged and the CD on it was kind of annoying. I'd give the outdoor content a 5/10.

Overall I give the game a 4/10. In my opinion, the developers really need to address the gameplay first and foremost. Barbarian was extremely boring and only having 6 abilities to use is such a disservice to modern games. If they fixed the vehicle im traversing the world through, doing dungeons and world content would be much more enjoyable. I think the game has a decent base to build off of, but is it worth 70 dollars, not now in my opinion.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.
