Really disappointed in the direction they took this compared to Diablo 3 and they don’t seem to listen to the community at all. All the changes they make aim to make you play longer but have less fun

Diablo 4 is not a horrible game, by any means - it possesses a solid story, with gorgeous cutscenes to boot. Its gameplay mechanics are also perfectly fine, and seems to perform relatively well on a PS5. However, the areas in which it is adequate do little to mitigate the impact of its greatest issue - it is not all that fun to play. It feels soulless and vapid in a way that prior games have not. Even in the state it was initially released in, Diablo 3 did not feel this lifeless or pseudo-predatory when it comes to time spent playing.

Whereas most console incarnations of Diablo 2 and 3 allow you to play the game offline for at least some of the time, Diablo 4 demands that you are always online. It also really wants you to engage with its controversial seasonal content. But perhaps most egregiously, the main tasks of the game - finding legendary loot and slaying powerful enemies - just isn't as fun. It all feels like banal busywork. And for a game franchise that has provided me with so much fun over the years, this feels deeply disappointing.

Diablo 4 is not worth its currently commanding price tag. It is a game that I often find myself begrudgingly convincing myself to play out of a lack of better options. Perhaps at a lower price, this game would feel like a sensible purchase; perhaps with refinement by its development team, the game might feel more engaging and fun. It is a game I regret purchasing, even as I begrudgingly state that it is a perfectly fine game with no glaring flaws - however, in comparison to what came before it, I believe it fails by trying to toe a line between a modern live-service product and the Diablo games of old. I recommend either waiting for its price to drop, or checking out either Diablo 3 or Path of Exile if you are looking for more cost-effective isometric ARPGs to play.

Story was pretty good for a Diablo game. Cutscenes were awesome.

I enjoyed the campaign even though it is really short. After level 50 the game is extremely boring…the campaign is the only thing keeping me from giving it a zero. I’m kinda over of these AAA developers rushing, what could be great games out to the public.

The graphics, music, gameplay, the story and setting - all is very good. I did quickly get bored after trying all of the late game activities, once you have to just grind nightmare dungeons forever to get some loot, and I guess all the low scores for this game are coming from the people who are evaluating the game more as a long term live service game, because then I would also rate it low. I'm really not interested in the seasonal grind and sinking 1000s of hours into this, but my casual experience was enjoyable and worth the time and money spent. Expand

This game is a joke. Once you reach level 100, there's nothing to do but repeat the same thing. I've played for over 300 hours and even played the first season with a different character, reaching level 60. I felt that it wasn't worth my time anymore because it doesn't offer anything new, just repetitive gameplay without any purpose.

If we only take the campaign and the 1-50 leveling into account the game is a 6,5/10. The first 30 hours are quite fun and the gameplay is good. However after that it just become endless repeating the same content for minimum upgrade. From level 50 to 60 I upgrade my gear maybe a couple of times. Diablo III was better.

If you want to be positive, you can say there is a good skeleton for a game here.
Otherwise, it's just another failure. Yes, the artstyle is nice, the story certainly better than D3, cutscenes are pretty good... but ultimately that doesn't matter much in a game like this.

What matters is loot and the way you progress. It mostly sucks here for now.

I played the game in World Tier 2 and it was easy, like boring easy… put my brain in autopilot and before you know it I’m at the end, and wishing I spent my time on another game. Really sad Blizzard used to make amazing games that were fun and have focused on making an endless chore game where you hopefully pay more money on top of a $70 game… Was fun for about 20 hours then it’s over… So if you want a 20 hour game I guess it’s ok, but if you expected a 200+ hour game it is not… Maybe like D3 it will get fixed. But I think it’s a case of a lot of potential, and just not there yet, maybe it will turn into something good, but its boring now. Expand

Most people are either hunting high gear score ancestral items or uniques by tier 4. Sacred items are purely for selling at this point. Yet end game content either doesnt drop unique items (whispers) or have an equal chance to drop sacred items… Thats just one example of frustration. Worked hard on a build- dont worry- thanks to some youtuber making a video about something similar- all the gear you just spent 40 hours farming is now useless- patch sorted that for you- What did the patch not sort. Loot tabs, item search, gems bags, quests that still dont let you complete them due to bugs… and so much more. Ugh. You know how many bugs I had on ff16 (cheaper) … non. Yeah I know- smaller scope in general right. But I didn't spend 100s of hours in game to have all my gear become useless, my game to shutdown or stutter every time I dodge or my time essentially being wasted on the same content thats now harder for no more reward. Real shame but I cant see myself jumping into season 1. Maybe see what the game is like when I am bored of Remnant 2 or Baldurs gate 3. Also. Final note. R.I.P barb. Absolutely decimated on the latest patch. Expand

The Season 1 XP nerfs, patch 1.1 balance changes and the overall slow down of gameplay loop make it hard to recommend right now. The various nerfs have made non meta builds unable to compete in higher tier content, which by the developers own words should have been the opposite effect.

Great story and fun mechanics but that only lasts for about 10 hours of game play. Enjoyed running dungeons with friends. The side quests start to feel extremely tedious and the endgame content is a bit repetitive. Has such potential to be an amazing game, hopefully future content will help it meet that expectation. Fully recommend waiting for game to go on sale before buying.

For the fact that the Diablo series has set standards in the past, it lags only tired behind today. Like all current Blizzard titles, everything is investor-driven and I miss the heart and soul for the players who love and live such games. It just doesn't bring anything new to the table. I miss the new ideas that are needed to keep up with the competitors. Also, the gameplay feels way too slow and clunky for the genre.

I gave Blizzard my trust but oh, how I fell for their marketing...

Diablo IV, in my humble opinion, is a soulless game, as soulless as they come in 2023. With all the money grab and microtransactions that pleague most of today's games. Sadly it would have been just as bad without them. We completed the campaign, reached level 50 and now we cannot spend another minute with it. It's simply not fun and feels like doing work after we come back from work. It's crazy really. Big teams with talented developers mostly get their games wrong nowadays. Minecraft Dungeons is so much more fun for at leas three times less money and you can feel the devs had fun making the game.

I could talk about Diablo IV in depth, but there are a lot of reviews that do, so I'm just going to keep it at that. I have as much desire to spend my evenings playing this game as I do with an average or slightly below average game. I cannot rate it higher than 5 and less would be unfair to all the work that went into it. It's just an average, soulless, by the numbers game for me,

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.
