Instead, I'll encapsulate the numerous problems by simply referencing DICE's baffling propensity to undo their own work. They have already figured out winning formulas for the Battlefield franchise and yet throw most all their previous accomplishments away by backtracking and ruining future projects like 2042. They omitted SO MANY features that are either staples to the genre or Staples to the franchise and it is astounding. 2042 is not worth a purchase and likely won't be for another year or more. Expand

Loadouts don’t work half the time. Spawn points don’t work half the time. It looks like they tried to call of duty but the funny thing is that even though call of duty recycles most their content/games, the f***ing actually works!! Maps are too big for the player count. Even with 128 players on ps5 i barely ever run into people. And hello EA! But Activision managed to create a map with 200 players on a ps4!!! You guys are still stuck in the year 2010 and somehow think that 128 players is a huge step up! This game suuuuuucks!!! Don’t waste your money!! I swear they allow people to play the game against bots while it’s downloading because they know that the players won’t get their 24 hour return back if they do. EA are crooks. Always have been. And always will be. You don’t just become one of the most hated game companies out there by not pulping stunts like this. #overhyped #underbuilt #dumpsterfire Expand

TLDR; I am not going to talk about the server, performance, bugs, and other technical issues, because those are plentiful and will be fixed. The real problem is that the game is not finished, and that's something that will take awhile to finish, which is why I am giving it such a low score.

With launch we get All-Out-Warfare, Hazard Zone, and Portal.

All-Out-Warfare gives us two game modes, Conquest and Breakthrough. Conquest, the maps are too big, empty, and lack any uniqueness. Whenever a battle is taking place at a capture point, there is nothing about that part of the map that makes the battle unique. Battlefield 3, had more uniqueness and variety in capture points on that map that made each battle at each part of the map more interesting. Breakthrough, vehicles dominate the experience.

Hazard Zone wants to be a battle-royale, but plays similar to a Vigor. The problem is that there is no real direction on onboarding in the experience. Whenever I am going in, the players I am playing with have no idea what to do or where to go. It's not clear on the objective. It feels half-baked and an afterthought.

Portal is actually not a bad concept, but it feels like older Battlefield games were shoehorned into this new engine. When I play Portal, I am playing Battlefield 2042 with a three different skins. Again, incomplete.

As a Product Manager, I would prefer that EA would have delayed the game more to deliver on a more-finished product. I also don't feel as if they did customer research to determine what this user base wanted. Looking at other reviews, following social channels, it seems that the community really wanted the Battlefield V gunplay/engine with a newer more modern setting/guns/vehicles, etc. I mean, simple Product activities like prioritizing features and functionality over core gameplay. Why in the world do we have a Tornado, but don't have more than like six building models and layouts?

EA, do your due diligence. This is a Product org failure, not the engineers, not designers, not the dev-ops team, not marketing... The Product org. See you guys in about a year when the game is finished.

A long list of features that were showcased in previews for the game before its launch are absent, only some minor key features are present in the current state of the game. I’ve been desynched a lot in my matches, I get downed and I can’t be revived, nor I can redeploy, unless I quit the current match, or if I’m defender in the mode breakthrough, I have to wait till current sector my team of defenders are protecting gets overtaken by the attackers, then I can be forced spawned. A lot times I’ve spawned inside a vehicle, and my character clipped through the ground and endlessly fell through some geometric void that has no set ground for me to traverse in a gameplay manner, it’s nothing but glitches. Had to disable cross play on my PS5 due to the consistent “persistent” game error message I kept receiving, which prevented me from playing in any matches. Game is not officially released, but even before that, Battlefield 2042 is such a inconsistent and meddling piece of game, and for a game that requires you to be online at all times, that is such a dismaying experience. It's... fun... for a while. They took away a lot of what makes BF great (probably to attract a wider more basic audience) so I don't see this being a game I'll come back to unless MAJOR changes are made. If that's the case I'll rethink my rating. But an overall big disappointment.

Hit Registration is all over the place every other gun fight seems inconsistent, One moment You are slaying out and then the next you can’t hit nothing to save your life. PP-29 and DMRs are busted, can’t revive certain players at times. Also man who the hell didn’t put in the Feature to let the a down player know that there is a medic nearby and not to end himself so he can be picked up. Seems like dice was off the rocker with this one. No voice chat so you can’t accurately direct your team in crunch moments for example, team gets comfortable with the lead and you have to stop taking away from whatever roll you play to type C1 C2 D1 D2 B1 hell E1 and F1 is been taken by the enemy by time you write all that you get met with the “shut up kid” you trash” “ooooooof get slapped with deez ****” “ttv w.e the hell” also the 3 rating is being Generous because I know they are going to further update the game but at the moment this is not it chief. Barely any guns, cap on the anti cheat, graphics looking dookie water, and the Specialists are cringe with their end game one-liners. Whoever views this and hates on me come on I’m trying to you save from not wasting money and making my mistake, don’t be sus and defend a brand that only cares about them green backs. Also that day one patch could eat one still has all the issues I mentioned above. Expand

On a personal note, this doesn't seem like a Battlefield to remember, the same way i still cherish Battlefield 2, Bad Company,

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game really fails to live up to the hype that it got. In a nutshell, this game was not worth the $100 I paid for it. It is more of a $30 game at best and here's why:

-The game has no campaign. I could look past this if the multiplayer had more maps and game modes but unfortunately the few game modes aren't terribly engaging.
-Basic Battlefield staples are missing such as building destruction, classes, squad play, and bullet drop. This feels more like Call of Duty than Battlefield and it is a terrible letdown.
-The new way of customizing the weapons is interesting but I think was not well executed. It is clunky and honestly more problematic than it is worth. Again, it undermines the squad strategy play.
-There's few maps and weapons and the weapons are terribly unbalanced. The assault rifles recoil too much and are unusable at longer ranges. The SMG's by comparison are much more effective than they should be.
-Marking enemies is almost impossible and you end up marking points on the map instead of the enemy.
-The game mode most people seem to enjoy is portal where you can play past games. This unfortunately undermines 2042 as a whole because people enjoy the older games instead of the newer game. I'm not sure why that was included when they could have put more time and effort in making 2042 better.
-Lastly the graphics are terrible. There was so much hype about how much more realistic the graphics were. Honestly even after the game fully buffers, the graphics in Battlefield 1 look better in my opinion.

The game honestly feels like it was made by the people who were working on Call of Duty. The opening scenes made it seem like they had a good idea for a storyline but it doesn't go anywhere past that scene. There is no direction and ultimately seems like there is no point to it.

The graphics on PS5 looked better on the Beta probably? Seems like lack of detail is because of 128 player game, NOT a good compromise...

The combat is good, I like it and have a lot of fun. But the maps are so few and some so bad that I want to shut down the game before it starts...

The game modes are FAR to few, add smaller maps, TDM 32 vs 32, small conquest, gun game, SINGLE PLAYER ETC.!
