I have spent a long time just trying to replay, write, re write, all just so I can make a review no one will read. I was very close to just giving up on this, but instead I sucked it up and did it anyways. So, Wolfenstein the New Order the game so many people call a return to old school fps games. I will admit this game is pretty badass for a modern shooter, but I would never call this game a old school fps.

Don't get me wrong I love most of Wolfenstein the New Order, I put it up there with Metro and Titanfall on my favorite modern fps games. There is a very key word I used there, most I like most of New Order. In terms of individual level quality some are the best in modern gaming, while others can go burn in a fire. I love the mission where you sneak into a maximum security prison to break people out. Then only for it to cock up and you shoot your way out blasting akimbo machine guns at Nazi’s. Meanwhile, you have a mission where you're slowly moving across a bridge getting sniped from enemies with automatic hitscan weapons.

The difficulty curve in general seems wonky, some segments in a level will just kick my ass while other segments I just dominate through. New Order also has a bad habit of taking your guns away. For example, There’s a mission where you have to find torpedos and hide yourself in them. So why would the game take my assault rifles, one shotgun, grenades, and one pistol. It wasn't to try and balance the rest of the level, because it gives you another assault rifle five seconds later. I think it was to try and immerse me in the game, if so it kinda had the opposite effect. Even then New Orders gun play is good enough to get me immersed, especially with how satisfying they are to use.

Almost every gun in the game can be akimbo, making some sections fast paced kill everyone on sight fun. To bad those sections are few and far between. A Lot of the time you’ll just be picking of Nazi’s from far away behind cover. They had so much potential with the akimbo mechanic’s it's kinda sad to see them be replaced with boring cover and stealth mechanics half the time. I don't understand why Machine Games had all of these other mechanics just piled on, It just makes the gameplay an unfocused mess. Especially when the stealth mechanics are the bare minimum required to be called stealth.

For example, good stealth mechanics give you a clear understanding of when you're visible or not. Wolfenstein's mechanics make it so that no matter what lighting you're in enemies can spot you from any distance. This makes stealth sections really boring and frustrating because the only way to succeed is by silenced pistol, or by following your enemies slowly so you can stab them from behind.

At least the cover mechanics are actually pretty good. You can hide behind walls chest high or taller, go prone if you like but it's kinda **** Most forms of cover won't last long because of how much automatic fire you’ll be under. So at least there’s that to keep the flow going. The three types of combat don’t flow right together, all three of them could have carried a game on their own with some tweaking.

I mean the story itself was enough to carry me through the entire game. I honestly recommend this game for the story alone. No it’s not the best story in gaming, but it's told super well. Now, I did cry while playing this but don’t take this as an extremely sad game, I am just a little **** The story begins with this really nice intro level that does everything a intro level should. It introduces the villains and gets us to hate them in seconds. While simultaneously making the heroes likeable underdogs.

The story just progresses to so much more it really is truly amazing. I would usually go on for hours about this kind of then, but honestly just go play it yourself. It's cheap on disk, while it can be somewhat pricey on downloaded if you see it on sale get it. Now I am Ziah Phillips and stay safe yall.

Thoroughly pleased to see the return to prominence of Wolfenstein after a pretty mediocre reboot attempt just prior. My biggest complaint is that I missed 2 of the perks, because you have to do them VERY early on in the game, I was focused on other things the first 2 chapters, and didn't get to "kill machines with grenades," but even with most of the game to go, there was never a moment where it gave both grenades (which they take after every level) and mechanical enemies, so if you want to clear all perks, focus on grenades early, plenty of time to do the rest. Still, amazing FPS. Expand

Wolfenstein: The New Order, while it can be frustrating and lackluster at points, is a fun shooter that tries to stay relevant in the plethora of shooters. Being over 3 year late to the party and enjoying Bethesda's DooM alot (not to mention some critics that I liked Wolfenstein) , I wanted to strap myself in for a ride through one of the game series that pushed for first person shooters to become mainstream. Unfortunately, The New Order is not always lenient order.

The game struggles with narrative very much. I understand some people don't care about their narratives and stories and want to kill Nazis, but to establish a plot and try to involve different characters alongside pacing is just all over the place. Blazkowicz is the main protagonist and goes on a mission to assassinate a major Nazi war figure in WW2 to end it. The mission fails and critically wounded he stays in a coma for 14 years, only to wake up shoving a utensil right into a Nazi's face. From there it's a revenge story tied with the typical rebel Star Wars style story that try to fight the world power of Nazi Germany. From here there is alot of problems. Although the alternate history concept is very good and even having some background to establish it, the main plot is so mediocre that I lost any interest in anyone but Blazkowicz. His main team are generic stereotype labeled "insert cliche here" types that really have no depth and intrigued for me to care about their plights. The Nazis themselves are much the same, with the antagonists lacking any sort of depth or complexity and instead are mustache twirling baddies that just give us a reason to kill them.

I don't expect master story work from this game (as the way the world and level design works echoes Half Life 2's sewers and sometimes lack of music) but to make a narrative and write it the way this game does, I had no real draw or just laughed at it, like when Blazkowicz casually says he's on the (bleep)ing moon. In fact, if his character wasn't so funny with the way he talks in a American patriot soldier stereotype and ASMR style, he would have easily annoyed me but kept me fairly entertained for what he says. The rest are so forgettable that I just block myself out.

But gameplay is clearly the most important for this game and it works fairly well. You have different weapons to take down targets like shotguns, assault rifles, laser beams and throwing knifes that all have their cathartic advantages when killing things. The stealth, however is very lame: enemies will die in one hit from throwing knives despite being covered in armor and using the knife takedowns don't feel gratifying and more like going through the motions. It's serviceable, but to not have a better execution is weak in my opinion. It also makes no sense at points where I would vaporize targets right in front of other enemies and still not trigger a full scale fight. That's due to the bugged AI that is can be terribly bad and funny. Enemies will glitch in walls or behind cover, appear out of nowhere, and do completely moronic tactics like throwing grenades at walls and bounce back at their feet and die. Stealth is hilariously flawed, as you will be seen sometimes in broad daylight AND make loud sounds even crouched and no one attacks instant, rather they gasp and only get curious. Considering this is the other half of the game for players, this makes stealth sections passable only for the humor and of course killing of Nazis.

Which of course Wolfenstein's greatest strength, killing the Nazi soldiers and units is quite satisfying mostly. You go up against grunts, super soldiers, attack dogs and other units that make it challenging for you to succeed in at certain points. A few fights I got myself into that stealth couldn't be possible and I died a good deal before winning. I also "like" the designs of them too, making it even more of a reason to kill them all and end their abominable creations. The music accompanying is solid, but sometimes felt like it didn't match the tone at all to what was being on screen. The exploration the game has for certain areas is pretty cool, but the linearity of the levels only make it a tease rather than a full step on allowing multiple different ways to go through it, which is due to the narrative. The perk system is nice, the guns feel a bit wimpy on packing a punch and the graphics are ok.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a good game, but only because of the catharsis for killing Nazis. If you expect a multiplayer, a good story, great stealth or anything like that, then you should play something else. Being three years late and having bugs STILL in the game is no excuse or reason at this point, but should you want to let loose some rage. Wolfenstein: The New Order mostly has you covered.

The main character, William 'BJ' Blazkowicz could have been a stereotypical nazi-killing action hero stereotype. Instead, he is a combination of the Allies' rage during WWII. He is complex and displays his emotion readily, unlike many of his other video game action hero counterparts.

The gameplay is as varied as the story and characters, with stealth sections (if you choose) and outright gun fights. It can be difficult when it needs to be. I would certainly call Wolfenstein a success.

Wolfenstein has been reborn. The reincarnation took Studio MachineGames, which is made up of people from Starbreeze studios, who did a great action scene in which a character has always been disclosed, the player could feel him, and always had a good story. Wolfenstein: The New Order, they have not changed yourself! They made an idol William Blaskowitz character! And it's not just the character, and personality, which even empathize. He as well voiced; the actor dubbing almost always speaks in a whisper, what makes the character closer to the player. Besides the main character we'll be a resistance headquarters, which is filled with characters. At first they seem to be just furniture to fill the space, but eventually all the characters will be revealed and you to bind him. The headquarters of the resistance will be your home to which you'll return after the task. You'll chat with your companions, it is better to know and get around the headquarters, which from time to time will change. If you sleep on the bed, even you can play a level from the original Wolfenstein is a great game (which in the game is not enough). Also I can not mention great music! The music in the game is simply gorgeous and gives the picture and gameplay richness.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is not a game in the open world, but the developers create the feeling that you are not just at the locations of the next mission, and at a certain part of the world. World, which was seized by the Nazis. Writers have written an alternative history and was even recorded alternate covers of famous bands! Notes interesting to read, and don't pass it by! They are immersed in the alternate world, and you realize that this is a deep game, it's a real thought out story with his world.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a shooter. Without a great shuternoy mechanics to play wouldn't be interesting even with a good plot. Developers here do not disappoint! Shoot fun! Run around and shoot Nazis with two hands! Buzz! Health itself is not restored, so you have to look for kits (you can even gain health above 100%, but it will very quickly drop to 100). Besides health, we also do replenish armor - just like in the good old days. The game also has stealth and a high level of complexity will have to resort to it often. But in this game it's best to set a medium level of complexity and fun to shoot Nazis.

I strongly recommend Wolfenstein: The New Order! Few people makes the shooter a real adventure with a memorable story and characters.

As for the shooting, Wolfenstein plays towards it's more classic roots, but keeping movement simple and exploration compartmentalized. Which may seem like a bad thing, it's not. In fact it works really well and keeps firefights tight and tense, when sh*t gets bad. Movement runs at 60 frames and is smooth as butter. With the only drawback being the stealth gameplay, which can make things too easy if you are really good at sneaking.

The ONLY other drawback is that THERE IS NO CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN. BUT that is Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is for, which makes Castle Wolfenstein its centerpiece!!

The reason? I consider myself more of an "old school" gamer, very much intrigued by games (or re-workings of games) that I used to play once upon a time. I spent many hours as a child in front of my computer monitor playing Wolfenstein 3D, so I was excited to see the game given a modern tweak. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by the story and a bit overwhelmed by the level of difficulty/controls.

As far as shooter games go, this one is probably pretty good. I don't usually dabble in this genre, so I'm not really the one to be asking about this sort of thing. But, it seems straightforward enough: you have objectives to meet and you have a kill a lot of Nazi's and Nazi robots/creatures to get them accomplished. The controls were a bit difficult for me to pick up, but I will readily admit that could be due to my newness to the PS controller after years of Nintendo/XBox.

Anyway, the main reason I'm cutting ties with this game after only playing through a few of the missions is because it didn't provide any of the nostalgia factor that I was looking for. I really was hoping that the game would have more nods to its history, but after a number of hours playing it I concluded that wasn't the point. "New Order" is more about moving forward than it is about harkening back to a 1990s PC shooter.

Thus, a 100% objective review of this game would probably bump it up a star (or maybe even two if you really, really like shooters). However, for what I was looking for, this game didn't cut it. I had to play on the easiest difficulty level to make any progress, and I kept looking for nods to the past when none were to be given. My advice to potential purchasers would be to examine what exactly you want from the game: If you are only buying it for the "Wolfenstein" name, you might very likely be disappointed.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a gem of a game, though one baked in nostalgia. Its run-and-gun, cover-is-for-the-weak, blow-everything-to-hell Nazi party is a welcome reprise from the hum-drum shooter affair plaguing the genre since the rise of the blue-grey, Whitcoulls-gift-voucher-for-X-mas FPS.

The Nazis have won, the future belongs to enormous Swastikas, mass culling of all nationalities (no discrimination here) and overall despair. Lovingly crafted by Machine Games, Wolfy New Order sees BJ Blaskowitz – full-time Nazi fun extinguisher – back in action. Though bloody and bombastic, this newest iteration on the series paints a far more detailed picture than expected, eliciting some oddly tender moments from our meaty hero and comrades.

The true charm of Wolfy lies in its older, more tactile mechanics. Similar to elder games of a the same ilk, retrieving items (health, armour, ammo and weapons) doesn’t require a simple stroll over or near supplies, but the single tap of a button. This does make for some high-intensity spamming but you can’t help but be transported back to a time before collision detection was perfected and the retrieving of med kits was deemed a wholly manual affair. Lovely.

However, with an older formula does come outdated ideas and things that have since evolved for good reason. Particularly evident in this regard is Wolfenstein’s choice of manually-triggered cutscenes. Well-polished, sure, but the sudden and self-inflicted snaps from gameplay to movie can impede on pacing, especially when a heated run-in with a Panzerhund – the SS’ very own nightmarish take on Astro from the Jetsons – morphs into an emotionally-charged chat with a colleague amongst bloody wreckage. Not a complete showstopper but its choices like these that really does have the once labyrinthine, granddaddy of shooters showing its age.

Old Blood expansion aside, there’s no doubt that Wolfenstein: The New Order deserves a sequel. Its reckless disregard for the methodical, plodding shooters of late brings with it a celebration of extravagant stabbing and the simple joys of moving through a level, blowing some **** up. This attitude coupled with an oddly thoughtful narrative makes new Wolfenstein an excellent package and a welcome return to the past.

While it keeps certain elements like dual wielding nearly every gun in the game, limited health, armor, and even killing dogs with knives, it also adds the classic Call of Duty style of gunplay, successfully making the game modern with retro elements thrown in where they’re needed to help make the game feel special. Surely, if you’re a fan of old school shooters, Wolfenstein, or if you’re just looking for something slightly different in the FPS space, the New Order won’t let you down.

The story starts with your character William "B.J." Blazkowicz, a soldier in World War II participating in a raid against Nazi forces who have been successful in their experiments and have created new technologies that put them leagues ahead of the rest of the world, with giant robots and power armor to show for it. Blazkowicz is injured in an explosion, putting him into a vegetative state for nearly 14 years and wakes up to learn that Nazi Germany has conquered the world. Not content to lay down his arms, Blazkowicz is determined to find the resistance movement and help them take back the world from the Nazi Reign.

While the story manages to stay strong from beginning to end, it’s not without its weak points. The biggest flaw in the story – the first problem you’ll notice with the New Order – is in the main character. Blazkowicz lacks any real type of personality, with his only characteristics being his whispery, gruff voice and his seemingly indestructible nature. Now, in a game filled to the brim with Nazi robots and robot dogs, Wolfenstein's story is bound to have its fair share of ridiculous moments, but the crap Blazkowicz actually manages to survive ends up pushing those boundaries pretty far. Adding onto how he manages to come out of a coma without aging a day, keeping all of his muscle mass and regaining complete control of his body within a few seconds, Blazkowicz manages to survive multiple stabbings, direct explosions, and various other events that really make him hard to take seriously. If the intention was for Blazkowicz’s supposed invincibility to come off as a way to parody modern shooters, it feels out of place in a story with such a serious tone. Aside from Blazkowicz himself and a few other weak points, Wolfenstein’s story line and characters manage to come out really well realized, and the story is strong enough to keep you invested until its end.

As for the gameplay, the New Order does a great job of incorporating old school elements with modern shooting mechanics. Along with a health and armor bar that cap off at 100, a weapon wheel allowing you to carry every weapon in the game, as well as the ability to dual wield nearly every gun, the game also has the superb shooting mechanics of Call of Duty, along with both a cover system and a peek ability, allowing for shooting that feels more fleshed out than the franchises it borrows from. The game even has some stealth sections, which are fun, even though they can feel tacked on at certain instances.

Overall, the gameplay is superb. Gunplay feels satisfying, and the unique throwback elements piled into its gameplay manage to make Wolfenstein: The New Order pull ahead of its competition. Plus, with some really well designed boss fights, open ended levels filled with collectibles and upgrades, and the brutality expected from a Wolfenstein game, Machine games has truly revitalized the Wolfenstein franchise. In conclusion, I’m looking forward to what is next up for this franchise. If you're a fan of shooters, or old school games, you owe it to yourself to try this game.

A triumph of a game but not overwhelmingly so. There are just enough slivers of not good gameplay elements that prevent Wolfenstein from being perfect. Yet near perfect is better than most of the dull shooters this console generation. Give this game a chance.

Let's start out on a good note and explain why this game is at least an 8 out of 10. The game is gorgeous. The design and use of colors is brilliant. You'd think fighting black clad Nazis in across a grey concrete city would be visually unappealing. Maybe it would except the developers make excellent use of color form the red lights of enemy robots, to the orange glow of firearms, and the innate color of the many, many objects that fill in the world with unbelievable detail. NPCs in the game are also quite colorful, not only in hue but also in personality. Set pieces rival and perhaps surpass anything from Call of Duty. (Moving vertically through a wrecked train was my personal favorite.) The cutscenes and interactive (non-shooting) portions of the game are also well done. Don't let the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions fool you; the PS4 version looks like a true current gen title.

The story is also well done. What could have been a bleak and hopeless alternative timeline of worldwide Nazi domination is instead a story of hope against impossible odds. The story is not perfect, and we see several tropes including the player character often falling unconscious and suffering capture and torture by the enemy. Seriously, I have no greater pet peeve than seeing the player character defeated by a scripted event and then humiliated in an unplayable cut scene. Fortunately, the story brings in some very bizarre and curious sci-fi elements such as secret Jewish science and moon bases. The game is worth playing for the story alone.

Now let's get negative and discuss those 2 points that should have made Wolfenstein a perfect 10. The health and armor mechanics in Wolfenstein are a purposefully archaic throwback to the original 1992 release of Wolfenstein 3D. As a concession to modern gaming, your health will regenerate up to 20%. Otherwise, the only way to prevent death is to constantly pick up armor and health packs in the environment. The problem with this old fashioned scheme is that the player never feels emboldened to progress forward until they have scoured every nook and cranny of the environment for every health and armor pick-up. To keep the player moving, the game world has to present copious amounts of health and armor pickups at predetermined checkpoints. You know a boss battle is coming if a hallway is filled with armor. Considering a second playthrough, I audibly grown at the prospect of having to search every level again for health and armor. As someone who played the original Wolfenstein in 1992, and then played through the evolution of first person shooters, including the groundbreaking Halo series, I would rather ditch the nostalgia and move the genre forward.

The gun play in the game is solid if not limited by the lack of scopes on most of the weapons. The game really wants you to play it as a corridor shooter, where shotguns and hip fire reign supreme. However, most of the beautiful set pieces are best played using guns to their full advantage, i.e. shooting enemies at a distance. The tendency of enemies to come from all directions also favors cover and shoot style gameplay, and I was a little disappointed by how effective I could be crouching behind one doorway and obliterating dozens of Nazis. I do give the game credit for not spamming grenades at the player. Games that encourage use of cover are disingenuous when they have every enemies lob grenades every time you crouch behind a crate.

The gunplay in destiny is further denigrated by the accuracy of enemies. You will take damage if you are out in the open. You will take damage if you pop your head out of cover. You will take damage in a full sprint jumping off ledges and dodging behind cover. One of my big complaints of Half-Life 2 was the spamming of automatic fire by enemies. While you were supposed to cleverly manipulate objects with your gravity gun, a half dozen drones were shooting you dead with hundreds of bullets. Half-Life 2 was released over 10 years ago and since then, modern games have done better. Smarter a.i. that will lose track of the player and even better, miss the player every now and then. The spray and play happy a.i. exacerbates the archaic health and armor pickups and lack of scoped weapons.

If Wolfenstein: The New Order ever receives a sequel, they should move the gameplay into the modern times and make the 1992 health and armor system an optional way to play.

The story is not inherently bad, it shows you a lot of interesting experiments and huge Nazi aeronautical Museums which really set up a theme for the game. It also nails the feel of 'Undercover Resistance''. Unfortunately the story is not anything amazing as the plot is not very personal and ends at 'stop the nazis' whilst this is a staple for a wolfenstein game , it just feels weak. It's worth noting however that they do a great job of making B.J Blazkowitz seem more like a human with a personality.

The gameplay is the meat of the sandwich and feels great, weapons are comically big and there is a wide variety of them. The combat is gorey and feels fantastic, other first person shooters have a lot to learn from this game. There is also another playstyle if you don't want to go in gunsblazing , there is a commander system which incentivizes you to stealth in and kill them first before attacking the rest.

It's a great game and has great graphics great sound, However with a weak plot and somewhat repetitive gameplay, I feel it's an 8/10.

Good game, although it's pretty hard and the PS4 is missing the ability to turn off bob/sway when you walk which is making a lot of people sick due to motion sickness. I would give this game a higher score but they've neglected to add in enough options for people on PS4. PC players should have no trouble turning it off.

Wolfenstein has great gun play, separating itself from the average shooter with not only amazing mechanics with its core game being perfect. The atmosphere of being in a post world war where the opposing side has one. Really makes you think and contemplate the pure evil of the Nazi Party.

Maybe I shouldnt play both games side by side cos it just spoils Wolfenstein for me. Will prob try Wolfie again a few months down the road, this time without Destiny, maybe an RPG or something.

On the upside, Wolfie had interesting characters, and a cool alternate history story, Shame the gunplay put me off continuing with the story. I played up till Chapter 6 on difficulty above normal. Stealth part completed, then got swamped with a bunch of enemies, and had to restart over and over again, repeating the stealth parts again.

The weapon wheel is so frustrating as when i ran out of ammo during a gunfight or have to switch to a shotgun for close up fights and i press the alternate weapon button(triangle), it gives me a useless pistol or whatever weapon that was automapped. so i still had to use the clumsy weapon wheel mid-battle to switch and OMG is that frustrating.

So in short, potentially good FPS for me but gunplay broke the game for me, all due to Destiny's superior mechanics.

Edit: Just finished the game. For some reason, the game grew on me with its fantastic characters, themes, dialogue, story and narrative. It was powerful enough for me to ignore the poor aspects of the game's mechanics and power on through. I stopped comparing it to Destiny so that helped. Despite having a cliche Nazi story, this game really is a beautiful journey about love and sacrifice. I felt oddly sad when it ended cos half the time i was screaming at the horrible controls and frustrating gameplay but, kudos to the writers, they got me! Will be playing The Old Blood now, and MachineGames have turned me into a fan, well done! Advice to those not so good with FPS like me, play on easy or normal, that should make the game less frustrating.

    Good:
    1) Like perk system - to be better in stealth you have to do more stealth action - thats quite innovative and logical
    2) Enemies concepts, models etc... Looks like they have good imagination and will to create unique characters
    Bad:
    1) Plot- They are trying to do deep story with protagonist with difficult past, hurting memories... Really??? There are some interesting courses of action, Interesting post(?)-nazi world however ...imagine porn with main character surrounded by doubts, uncertain of his past role ... That is not what we are looking for;)
Transition between the areas are done by cut-scenes....thats cheap! Can't you guys in game-dev play once again in Unreal/Half Life and how they design heroe march through game?
2)Closed world - it shooter on rails, no exploration, no consequences of your action ( you shoot, throw grenades in one room and then move 50 meters and no-one is aware about any shooting)
    3) Check point - random, stupid and frustrating, you cannot even chose from which checkpoint you want to start your game! WHERE IS SAVE/LOAD option???? Thats been in Wolf3D in early 90s!!
    4) You gather carefully ammo and 3 minutes later game take it all from you and you are left with knife. I hate it. In Half Life 1/2 this was done for a reason here its done just to make game a little bit longer to make you strife to survive... And its done 4-6 times in a game!
    5) Difficulty curve--- there is no such thing, some levels in the middle are super easy while some on the beggining make you want to scream! And the fight with this huge Machine in London - come on! Its dull!

In summary... That might be good game however someone from game design did shortcuts, artificially trying to make game longer because of stupid difficulty curve, and removing(?) load/save, cut scenes that are justifying putting you in many stupid places...

I haven't been so impressed with an FPS since I played Spec Ops:The Line. Both games have great designs and gamepaly, and brilliant plots. I connected with all of the characters, none felt throw-away, and bought all of the arcs each character went through. I felt alone, outnumbered, and outgunned in every scenario, yet I felt empowered and determined to strategize and take out the army one-by-one. Typically with games, especially FPS, I just want to hurry up to the action, and kill everyone quickly without feeling forced into having to 'plan' (where panning consists of just standing and waiting for people to attack or exploiting set design flaws and ai flaws). With The New Order, I was being flanked from every doorway, ambushed, aggressively stalked by some enemies, while others stayed in cover and took their time. I had to adapt to every level. Conserving ammo, staying near any power source I could find to charge electric weapons, and avoiding staying still for too long for fear of being flanked. It felt like I was actually there, and not just controlling a limited player in a limited level with dumb enemies. I had to outsmart and use the right gun for the right position/enemy. I liked everything about the controls and gameplay, and my only regret is not realising how useful the maps really were, there are clues on every map of where gun upgrades, maps and other useful things are hidden. I found myself exploring levels more and more as the game went on, just to find armour/health and extra ammo. Grenades are a very useful took in this game, and are best saved for armoured enemies.

This is a full in-depth game. Just the prologue alone took a large amount of time to get through (I initially thought it was the end credits). Levels are quite big and every chapter feels unique, something most fps games fail to achieve, as set designs and repetitious missions tend to blend together.

I've owned this game for a while, but with the surge of 'must play' games out in recent years it took a low priority, but I now wish I played it sooner, absolutely supersedes any recent fps.

Level designs and set pieces are great fun, but what makes TNO stand out is a storyline that is appeals to human nature, it is a frightening look at a Nazi run world with racism and extreme nationalistic ideals perverting a world of genocide and the destruction of culture through brute force. It doesn't shy away from showing the trauma or the base urge of characters to let loose with sex and passion - and you probably would if you were living in a realm where being found would result in instant death or scientific experimentation for the rest of your short life.

TNO succeeds where others fail because it knows exactly what it wants to do, deliver a FPS experience over several tight levels interwoven with a personal, emotionally charged tale. It refuses to allow itself to be distracted by money, dlc and map packs and weapon skins. It knows, when you're done with it, you're done and it does its best to make sure than when you do finish, you remember it forever, for all the right reasons.

The best FPS of this generation at the moment. That's how we could describe this new take on the cult and famous franchise Wolfenstein. With a gameplay somehow classical but yet refreshing when compared to the rest of the modern FPS: life and armor system that don't regenerates on itself, different styles of gameplay (infiltration, or gun fever). But where the game really stands above every others is its story, this is such an interesting point of view on the World War 2 and the nazi's regime with original and likable characters it really gets you invested in the game.
In terms of content it's also above your average FPS , you can count between 10 and 15 hours depending on your interest for the collectibles of the games, I wish some of the chapters were more than just the hub as I couldn't get enough of this version of history, but it's by no way too short.
The only steps-back of the game are technicals, the graphics, it's not ugly but insufficient for a next-gen game, the IA isn't very good neither (even in Uber difficulty). I hope it will be better in a more than wished sequel.
To resume, if you are a story-oriented player ,like me, and want some action, you can't find anything better than Wolfenstein : The New Order (and its extension : The Old Blood). it's the best atmosphere in a FPS since Bioshock and the game itself is a lot of fun.

I would say that it's enjoyable at best, irritating at worst. While it's nice to take a step away from the clear-cut military shooter genre, this game doesn't quite hit the spot. The music is good, but often at such a low volume that all the environmental sound effects block it. The game gets boring towards the end, running into the same enemies in the same environments with nothing changed except more smoke and higher health-pools, making the difficult to kill armored enemies even more annoying. Towards the end when I went into a room and saw the enemies, all I could think of was "not this **** again". That was when I knew that even though it was a good try, its in the end not a good game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is one of those game that you play and never forget. It's definitely worth your time to play it. Obviously it's better than call of duty and battlefield. It is. It is the funnest first person shooter I have ever played. The only first person shooter that may beat this is Far Cry, and I've never played far cry. The story in this game is surprisingly good for a first person shooter. Many parts in this game are unrealistic as you survive insane encounters. This game is also very well known for it's gore, so if you don't like gore, I suggest you skip some of the cut scenes. Don't avoid the game because you don't like gore. I don't like gore either, but I played it because it is that good. Now as far as graphics go, they are great during cut scenes but complete **** during the game. They're not unbearable, but unacceptable for a recent title. The game is also surprisingly long. I've never played a first person shooter that was this long. I believe it took me 12 to 17 hours to beat the game. It's not as easy as your standard first person shooter either. None of that Call of Duty **** It's not that bad though, thanks to the five different difficulties that are included that have hilarious titles to them. All of the characters are original and feel somewhat real. Gameplay is as smooth as anything and the terror that you feel when you are in a Nazi prison is incredible. It definitely brings out the fear and depression that you would really feel if you were being infiltrated by Nazis. Another warning for parents and children, there are two sex scenes that don't show a lot, but can be skipped like any other cut scene. There is also a very gory torture scene where a man is dissected. This can also be skipped. Other than that, it's fine. This is a great game, and I feel for anyone who hasn't got the opportunity to play it yet. Expand

This really is the best FPS to come out on console platforms in years. Although I was sceptical about the story at first, I could see that it drew from contemporary Nazi mythos very nicely by the end game (see the movie Iron Sky for example).

This really is the best FPS to come out on console platforms in years. Although I was sceptical about the story at first, I could see that it drew from contemporary Nazi mythos very nicely by the end game (see the movie Iron Sky for example).

However, I have a few gripes about the story and gameplay as well. Firstly, a love story angle is, in my humble opinion, completely unnecessary in a Nazi slaughter game. Did it give the characters more depth? No. It just made the one "attractive" female seem like a complete floozy in the "heat of the war" or some nonsense like this. Well, it's been done over and over, so I cannot really be that annoyed by it.

Secondly, weapon change wheel and throw grenade on the same button... Really?

Lastly, I have to say that other commenters have griped about the stronger enemies and bosses. Here's my two cents: Weaker guys have no armor, so they duck and cover behind walls and try to get you with grenades. Bigger buys have a **** of armor, so they need no cover and have a mentality of just running you down. Bosses are cocky Nazis... they are cocky Nazis that think they are invincible. That's the story. So, it's only logical that you'll have to find their Achilles heel. Nothing wrong with the enemy design in my opinion.

Final verdict: Best FPS in years. Some minor polishing issues, but still the best in years.

The game is a relatively straightforward shooter that manages to differentiate itself from the pack thanks to a surprisingly engrossing and poignant story taking place throughout some of the most memorable locales found in an FPS.

The game is broken down into distinct chapters (or levels) that differ well enough apart from each other to keep the the storyline feeling fresh and exciting throughout, and the action is often fast and frenzied but still allows for ample opportunity to tackle situations in a variety of fashions (ie. being stealthy versus running in guns blazing). MachineGames has done a marvelous job of keeping Wolfenstein relevant and producing a game that is a must-own for any fans of the genre.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wolfenstein: The New Order is one great game. You get to fight 'Nazi scum' on the open battlefield, submarines, wrecked trains, office buildings, and even space! The diversity of the locations and weapons is awesome considering it's set in the mid 1900s. I enjoyed playing most of it...except the very end where you have to fight two bosses in an almost impossible-to-win scenario. Nobody wants to play a game in 'baby' mode but after dying 30 times during the final boss battles and Googling tricks to beat these seemingly indestructible monstrosities, you will probably decide to tone the game difficulty down so you can just get it over and done with. The game creators went out of their way to make the final battle as close to impossible as they possibly could.
One other thing that bugged me was the side missions in the bunker where you have to spend hours looking around for miscellaneous items before going on actual missions. If that isn't a trick to make the game longer than it has to be, then I don't know what is!

But overall, it is a game I would recommend to anyone who loves a good shoot-em-up type of gaming experience.

And yes you can notice how much detail was put into this game. With all those newspaper pages scattered everywhere, collectibles, deciphering enigma codes, and finding clues in game how to decipher them. These small things adds up to the game like a good spicing to great steak, or a good wash to a car, or a nicely mawed lawn or (you got the idea).

The story! Finally the fps that is mainly story oriented. It was like they made the story first, then designed all of the levels, enemies etc, according to it. Just the way games were done some time ago, and not focusing entirely on specs of the hardware, trying to squeeze those last drops, just so they would try to shove some sort of pseudo-important visual features (like people weren't able to enjoy games that looked like **** 10 years ago). So basically whole game rotates around the story, and while it's quite predictable, it is still making you fell like you;re not just shooting waves of enemies just so the game would deliver that minimal amount of time for you to spend to reach the apogee. The caracters are great, there is a lot of dialogue, everything seems quite well paced, but not exactly perfect for my taste. But I guess that had to be done for the story.

So yeah You're shooting nazis, I a nicely looking game, that feel like great shooter (up with the likes of BF4), and has a story, and full of collectibles, even stealth, and bosses! I mean what else could you ask for?

I give it 9, because there were few small things that needed to be done differently for me(not for everyone) to get 10. I Do recommend, if you are the kind of player who used to play cod and medal of honor, and then stopped (just like I did) after cod mw2. I think I have missed cus, I have been distracted will al that publicity of other sh**y games advertisement. Mind you I haven't played any of the hyped games of 2014, and feel proud of myself :D

However, the stealth approach does expose some inconsistency within the AI. They were not very aware of their surroundings, such as not reacting to a dead body. The guns were big, load and satisfying to shoot with. Nearly all of the weapons can be dual wielded and all of them come with upgrades. There is an exciting upgrade system that is achieved by accomplishing various mini missions that lure you to try out new things that you might not have thought off.

Wolfenstein: The New Order has a solid plot that remains interesting through out its 15-20 hour game play. The characters are well developed with good writing and voice acting. There is no multiplayer in this game; however, the pleasing story elements and joyous game play highly compensates for this.Wolfenstein is a game that will entertain you from start to finish and i highly recommend it.

The nazi enemies are not the brightest when it comes to AI but still they are not simply cannonfudder and give you a hard time proceeding to the next level from time to time. Especially some of the more advanced units like the "Supersoldaten" in advanced chapters are a pain in the neck.

The story is a bit trashy (but come on it's the Wolfenstein franchise) but well told in great cinematics. The acting and voices are great, especially the Nazis who speak an accent free german (and some even with regional german accents - that's just excellent). The fact that the germans mostly speak german as native germans speak throughout the game and every member of the resistance speaks with a foreign english accent depending on where they come from makes it very authentic and adds a lot to the great atmosphere the game creates!

Overall I really enjoyed the game and there is hardly anything negative I can think about!
Compared to Killzone which is the only other real Shooter I have played on the PS4 so far Wolfenstein the new Order is the better game. Maybe not for the graphics but for the overall atmosphere and fun you get with the game!

Speaking of which, the special edition is quite good, it doesn't lock off content from the game for those who can't afford to go all in however does at the same time give you some good stuff, it comes with a wallet, several postcards and a "guide to occupied Britain" and a nice larger box to keep it all in and all the products within are of a very good quality, the postcards especially so and the guide to occupied Britain is quite amusing. However I do have one major grievance with it, as despite being advertised on the front of the box, the doom beta code did not work for me, this may be because I didn't pre-order however on the terms and conditions, pre-ordering is not mentioned, so anyone buying solely for that will be upset. Onto the game, the game is surprisingly good, doing the resistance three thing of both combining the good aspects of old FPS, with new FPS very effectively, there's some regenerating health but this only goes so far and you'll have to rely on med-packs and armour otherwise, also the game has a very nice map design, with exploration rewarded with hidden goodies. Also there is some decent re-playability too, both with going over the levels with a fine-tooth comb looking for the enigma codes and gold trinkets you missed, not to mention the extra game modes said enigma codes unlock and the choice you make in-game to keep one character alive or not, though admittedly it's re-playability is hardly ground-breaking.
As for the action, you should be pleased to know that the action is as meaty and explosive as a sausage roll made by the Taliban, with your character BJ (yes I know, haha) being able to dual wield shotguns each firing different bullet types into crowds of Nazi mecha-soldiers, alternatively you can go sneaky sneaky with a silenced pistol and lethal take-downs including drowning Nazis in their own piss and when that eventually fails going back to shooting like a madman, all of which is very very fun. The game also has a surprisingly deep (for a shooter) alternate history back story which you can find out about through letters, recordings and newspapers and gladly isn't forced down our throat MGS style. Speaking of story, well it's pretty standard really, Nazis are bad, kill them in various different cool environments, though that's not to say the story is bland or boring, it certainly can be charming at times, though the best part of it is the characters, your character may be a muscled all-American patriot meat-head but at the same time he is still a flawed character (in the good way I mean) in the sense that he is tired of it all and has next to nothing left, also he gets called out on his senseless patriotism by another character later, so though there are some tropes prevalent that doesn't stop both the characters from shining. Of course the bad guys are also fantastically evil, even for Nazis these guys manage to be **** sinister. All in all a solid game, even if the game feels a tad stumpy, the scenes contrived and the beta code a bit buggy, that doesn't stop the fact that killing Nazis has never been more fun, I would very much like more shooters like this to come out.

An over-the-top shooter that will quench your Nazi killing thirst. The game doesn't include a multiplayer, nor was I that impressed with the single player campaign. However, the game does do one thing well and that is.. kill Nazis. Machinegames could have done better with the next gen versions by including higher resolution textures. Try before buy.

This game is a fun FPS, with great gameplay and great story telling I highly recommend this to any and all FPS fans. Only real problem with the game would be it's a short game with no additional features such as online play or DLC.

Will get a few plays out of this for sure even just to get all those beautiful collectables! I missed out on so many was too busy killing nazi's! If you are in doubt. Wait for a sale! I paid nearly full price for this (au priced games are expensive ) but it was worth it! Loved the game. Can't wait to play again. Expand

With all the new FPS being futuristic or Modern warfare, I forgot how fun it was to kill a bunch of racist Nazis. The gameplay is solid and gives you a challenge throughout the game especially on Uber, and its the best part of the game. Although the gameplay is great I had the game crash on me a lot on certain stages on my PS4. The ID Tech 5 engine isn't shown off as much as it does look like a last gen game. (But what I heard, the PC Version looks so much better) And the story is... well... dull.

    The story goes like this:
In an alternative universe Dr.Deathhead created these futuristic like technology that gave Nazis the advantage to win the war, Therefore the Nazis win the war. This idea is very fresh and interesting to keep me going but here comes the stupidity. You play as J.G Blakovich, An Ex War Veteran who during in a battle, skull was hit by shrapnel. Blakovich could not move anymore as he was taken to Portugal to stay at an Asylum for now on. 13 years went by and Blakovich could move again due to a Nazi attack at the Asylum. What happens there? Its for you to find out. Now, It sounds cool and all but you will figure out that the story is bland and cliché at times and some characters can make no sense on why they exist. And the ending... Its so bad. I don't want to give out any spoilers but when you see the ending you will understand what I mean. Overall, if you are looking for an FPS That's fun throughout, buy this game.

overall i would highly recommend this game to anyone, whether it be on current gen or next gen, wolfenstein 3d is one of the ps4s strongest titles, probably not as iconic as wolfenstein 3d, but who cares?? when you can mow down a line of 8 bionic suit wearing nazis, with dual wield model 1960s or take down a crazed nazi officer in front of his lover, nothing really matters

Most fun I've had on the generation of consoles, excellent gameplay, gripping and refreshingly deep story for an FPS. If you're sick of CoDs "Here's the bad guy, here's a twist, the end" spiel, give this a go.

If your tired of the "look at me I'm unemployed but I'll kick your but online cliche, this game is fun and enjoyable. Crites gave it a modest review.

Seriously, the story, characterization and voice acting were second to none... it was like watching an awesome movie and getting to play the best bits. I have rarely ever seen so much attention to detail go into a game where the setting and feel are concerned, I believed every single moment of every single chapter, my suspension of disbelief complete. The environments were perfectly rendered, everything just looked and felt right. Whoever wrote and realized this story and script, and created the amazing characters, did so far beyond what I would consider the call of duty (no pun intended) in this kind of game. It was clearly a labour of love.

Gameplay-wise, it got the balance just right. Sure, the AI had varying degrees of intelligence, and there were a couple of annoying sections, but those were few and far between. The stealth sections actually worked for the most part (although using L3 to take-down and throw knives gave me rage on occasion), and the weapons were ALL genuinely useful and imo perfectly balanced. Best laser ever imo, especially with the later targeting upgrade, it really added another unique dynamic to the gameplay. I didn't egt all the extras or perks, but I was playing just for the story progression, wanting to see what happened next, like a good book.

Playing on a PS4 is different to what I am used to, but I think I got the hang of it, and I accept that fine aiming and the occasional frustrations will be experienced with an FPS game on a gamepad. Thankfully, that didn't happen too much, the notable exception being the London Monitor boss, the final part of killing him which was tricky due to the sticks.

Looks-wise, to me as a semi-retired PC gamer the graphics looked great. Of course you lose resolution and anti aliasing, but then you don't need those to enjoy and appreciate a game, they are a luxury that is easy to forget when you get immersed in a game of this quality. The frame rate was buttery smooth throughout, helped I noted by some blurring techniques fading out the detail in a mostly unobtrusive way during certain sections.

All in all this was an absolutely superlative game, a true AAA title, and a throwback to the glory days when FPS's were big and badass, expect WNO takes the old formulas and adds so many awesome set pieces and visual effects and useful gameplay mechanisms that it's like an evolution of the traditional FPS. Like that the developers of the originals would have done had they access to modern PC and console technology.

An amazing gaming experience that I shall remember, even if I can't see myself playing through again (but I'm like that).

Wolfenstein is a great game, its a breath of fresh air from the battlefield and COD, im not saying its a better than game them but its a refreshing change, Wolfenstein is by no means a bad game, it has a decent enough story, its challenging enough and has alot of trophies to unlock (for trophy hunters like me) - however there is no online mode at all and sometimes it feels a bit flat. 8/10

MachineGames haven’t exactly reinvented the FPS or even Wolfenstein here, but they have put together a consistently enjoyable, well-crafted action game and given you the motivation to blast your way through its stringier bits. If this is the New Order for Wolfenstein, then this is a promising start.

We would have preferred a greater freedom of action for the levels, rather than the linear and driven that we've found, but they are trifles for a title that deserves to be played at least once.
