Do I recommend this game? Yes... And no... This game is an odd duck and while I can't say it's a bad game, I can say it's definitely not for everyone. This game is an odd duck and while I can't say it's a bad game, I can say it's definitely not for everyone. I felt like this game seemed to be suffering from a little bit of an identity crisis in as in to whether it wanted to be a straight forward horror or a b-horror comedy. I don't know if it is from my lack of knowledge with Korean horror culture but that's the impression I got. I also didn't know going in that this game was in fact a remake and usually I’d be a bit more cricitcal when reviewing a game. That being said even though I have never played the original, I will judge it on it on its own merits and if I ever play the original, I will re-vise this if I feel there is anything more to say.
The Pros
A fairly unique story, nothing life altering but interesting enough.
There's plenty of replay-ability with the 10 different endings as well as different or entirely new cutscenes that can be seen depending on your choices when speaking to the girls
Unlockable costumes for the cast as well as an all new character introduced after getting one of three specifics endings required to unlock her
The Cons
The ghosts feel very much like they're in the background until act 3. Outside of the small few you encounter that are required to progress the story, you will need to look up a guide on how to trigger your encounter with all 20 of them.
Some of the cut scenes that are locked behind certain routes that feel like they could've easily been available in all of them to provide more context of the plot without giving away too much of what's going on
The puzzles are not as mind bending as the store page claims, most are very straight forward. In fact if you're playing on anything lower than normal, the game basically outright tells you where to go and how to solve the ones that are keeping you from progressing the story. However there are a small couple you will need a guide for, not because the puzzle is necessarily difficult but because you either you aren't given any real information about them, by the time you've gotten all the pieces you've completely forgotten about it or you simply aren't even aware of their existence.
The Janitors, not because they're difficult to deal with just annoying and not very threatening. You can easily run around them and if you're having trouble losing them, just hide in a bathroom stall and they'll immediately lose you and go away. This can be done on any difficulty
The difficulty curve. There doesn't feel like there's much of a difference between very easy and easy as well as between normal and hard. If you play this for the first time, I honestly recommend just playing it on hard since then you will have a chance to encounter all the ghosts.
Sound can be serviceable, however buggy. There were times when i'd just be walking around and the title theme will just randomly start playing.
Game can be a completionist's nightmare since one of the unlockable costumes requires you to acquire all 10 endings on each level of difficulty. While I do think there is a good amount of replay-ability, I don't think there is enough to warrant roughly 50 play throughs.
You will need to look at a guide to figure out how to interact with the new girl after you unlock her.
As I said at the beginning of my review, I do recommend this but only if you're able to over look its flaws and go in with the mindset of it's not entirely sure if it's a horror game or not. I also feel that even though I’ve never played the original, there still feels like there is quite a bit of untapped potential that was missed out on her. That being said I give this game 2 baseball bat wielding ass kicking janitors out of 5.… Expand
