Uncharted 4 is a good and solid game. But in light of the previous installments in the series as well as Naughty Dog's The Last of Us, it unfortunately does not reach the bar of excellence that was rightly expected of it. I would (regrettably, but objectively) score this game a 7.5/10. Here is my breakdown of some key aspects:

THE GOOD: Amazing graphics: Arguably the best looking game
Uncharted 4 is a good and solid game. But in light of the previous installments in the series as well as Naughty Dog's The Last of Us, it unfortunately does not reach the bar of excellence that was rightly expected of it. I would (regrettably, but objectively) score this game a 7.5/10. Here is my breakdown of some key aspects:

THE GOOD: Amazing graphics: Arguably the best looking game on the PS4 at the moment. The game's graphics are just outstanding. Good story: A good story that ties together all the narrative elements from the previous Uncharted series. Lots of old Uncharted stuff: The game has a satisfying amount of the main things that you would expect from an Uncharted game, e.g climbing, shooting, action in amazing set pieces, etc. Good multiplayer: Fun and well-done multiplayer: The multiplayer blends elements from the old Uncharted multiplayer with new ones clearly inspired by Naughty Dog's previous entry, The Last of Us. I really enjoy the multiplayer part of the game and see myself playing it for a long time.

THE BAD: Incomplete multiplayer: Although commendable and enjoyable, the multiplayer component of the game is clearly unfinished. It lacks split screen co-op (which may be added later on, according to Naughty Dog); it lacks many of the great multiplayer modes from the previous series (e.g. three team death match, elimination or free for all); and, it lacks previous online co-op modes, such as Adventure and Survival modes from the previous entries. While it may be true that some of these will be added later on, it is disappointing that we have to wait a while before these will be added. As of now, there are only three multiplayer modes (team death match, command and plunder, if we don't count ranked team death match).

THE UGLY: The biggest flaw in the (campaign portion of the) game is its PACING! I don't know what exactly Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann were thinking in directing Uncharted 4, but the pacing of the game is simply unforgivable. None of the previous entries in the series had the sort of pacing problem Uncharted 4 does. Over and over again, I found myself getting bored, tired and frustrated with tedium - something that never happened to me in playing the previous entries, all of which I love. There are multiple occasions in the game where brilliant moments - some of which make the game truly shine - are awkwardly interrupted with long stretches of pedestrian walking, climbing and looking for things. The pacing problem really hampers what could otherwise have been a great story in a great game. What a disappointment.

If you enjoyed the previous installments of Uncharted, then you will probably like this game. But be warned that the main campaign has a serious pacing issue, so exercise patience (you will need a fair amount of it!).

From the general presentation to the story, graphics, gameplay, sound, music and multiplayer - Uncharted 4 is the epitome of a masterpiece. A perfect conclusion to one of the greatest action series of all time, as well as perhaps the greatest PS4 game to date, one that pushes the limits of the console. I would have given this a 10, if not for the presence of micro-transactions.

Lush green environments, gorgeous landscapes and realistic looking character models: this is probably the best looking game I've ever played on any platform. The environments urge you to explore everything and during cut scenes I forgot I was playing a game as the surrounds and the characters looks life like, as if was actual people not cgi models. Many reviews about other games may have this comment about advancing the boundaries of video visuals but usually they off just enough to make you realise it's a game or enters the uncanny valley where you're at unease, therefore knowing this isn't real. A lot of the time with this game however I saw the characters as plausible actors playing out scenes in live action being filmed in real settings not all cgi and none of it off putting-ly realistic like Until dawn.

The voice acting cast is on top form with Nolan North bringing the same quality and charm he always has as Nate as well as Troy Baker coming into the franchise for the first time nailing it as Drake's brother. The emotion in clearly apparent with mo-cap technology allowing the voice actors to express facial how they're feeling gives the character further depth than ever before.

Nothing much new is brought to the table with Uncharted 4's gun play and parkour aside from the rope, which is perfectly implemented into the traversing of each area, and what I can only describe as a climbing spike, which is nice but seems like an afterthought. The mechanics and physics feel more polished than ever before but no change overall since Uncharted 2.

The story is good but admittedly feels the same to all the others. If you didn't know already, Nathan is now retired from the treasure hunting life and is now trying to settle into a tamer life with his wife, Elena, two years after the events of Uncharted 3. This is when his brother, Sam, shows up on at his office door looking for help and drags back into the treasure hunting scene. Although this entry does poke some plot holes into the previous installments with Nate having a brother, it does provide a satisfying end to Nate's thieving life.

However, is it a perfect game? No. The only gripe is with it is its ps4 exclusivity as it's a game everyone should play but not one to buy a ps4 over unless you've played the other games. It's one for the fans rather than a starting point to jump into the franchise. It's too self contained with its characters so a new comer wouldn't understand most of the relationships to their core unlike series veterans, a part from everyone's with Sam as he's only in this game, which forces the game not to be perfect as you can't jump in this game blind. As a player, you need to have played from drake's fortune to understand the weight behind these characters decisions. Thankfully there's the Nathan Drake collection which remedies this but still means an additional cost to fully appreciate this game.

So, is this gonna be the game of the year? It certainly looks like it: its cinematic storytelling and refined gameplay other 4 games just makes this a wonder on the eyes and a marvel to play, Uncharted 4 is worth getting as a visual experience above all else.

I died a few times because I thought I was still in a cutscene, but I was actually supposed to be playing. I have a few nitpicks, though. The distance you need to fall in order to die is very inconsistent, leading to many deaths at the hands of safe-looking jumps, and the multiplayer has micro transactions. They're pretty minor and shouldn't bug you too much, but it kind of irks me that Naughty Dog thought that it'd be a good idea. There's also going to be single player DLC in the future, implying that you'll have to pay extra to experience the whole story. Again, these are all nitpicks, and you would be doing yourself a major disservice by not owning this great game. Expand

After 5 years from making Uncharted 3 it's bound to be better at everything. But, however, it's not as groundbreaking as Uncharted 2. Uncharted 2 was such a breakthrough in ideas and creativity. It totally blew me away. Whether it was the train sequence through the jungle ending in the snowy Himalayas to the helicopter scene in Nepal, nothing can match the innovation in Uncharted 2.

Uncharted 4 doesn't really offer anything new per se. It's a lot of rehash (not necessarily a bad thing). Because it was released 5 years later on a more updated console I did expect more. I expected creativity, ideas, and innovation. We didn't really get that here. I was kind of let down by that.

Don't get me wrong, it's the best Uncharted game of the series. I just wish there was more breakthrough.

Fallout couldn't do it, batman couldn't do it. No game on/off the market could do what Uncharted 4 has done and I don't think any game ever will. TLOU was great but the only people you really pay attention to is Ellie and Joel. In this game you care about everyone. Henry Avery, Nathan drake, Elena, Sully, Sam, Charlie, Chloe, Rafe, Nadine. The fact that I actually remember the villans shows how amazing and how big of an impact this game actually made. You feel for every one of these characters and even if Henry Avery isn't physically in the game you still want more of that character and you actually want to discover the treasure and you actually want to keep on playing until you figure out what happens. In most games you probably want to play as the same character but do something totally different than what the story actually makes you do. The best part of the game is of course the Graphics. I spent a lot of time just wandering around and looking and gazing at the amazing models, shaders/textures and lightning of the game. Almost nothing felt repetitive. The AI felt like the good old Uncharted, minor complaint would be the yellow mode of the enemy when they just stand there looking dumb without investigating. The new rope swing system was really fun, but it makes you wonder why they didn't introduce it in earlier Uncharted. The back story for it didn't make complete sense.

The story and characters were the games weakest point. The story was actually very good in the beginning but after having played half of the game it went sort of down hill from there, and the ending was just 'ok'. The introduction of Chloe and Cutter in earlier Uncharted games was much better than introduction of Sam in this one. I didn't completely understand Sam's obsessiveness about the treasure. Yeah, he has been away in prison for a long time, but how many people can relate to that? Most of the other main characters were kinda reluctant to finding the treasure, except Rafe, who also felt un-relatable. If you're rich already, why do you need the money? The honor and glory of it didn't make sense for him. I felt like the writers tried to make a drama-like story which felt right in the Last of Us because of its negative space(apocalyptic setting), but it didn't make sense in a treasure hunting game where you're supposed to be excited about finding it. And not just to tag along to save your brother's life. The voice actors did a great job portraying the characters though.

Regarding the whole pirate thing, I tried to get into it but at a certain point I just stopped reading the letters from dead pirates and treasure hunters. I guess I don't understand the honor of being a pirate. And what's the point of having rules among pirates if you're a criminal anyway? Is that why they killed each other over the treasure at the end? The letters you find in the Last of Us made much more sense. Because I could relate to those people and what they were going through.

Despite all that, the game was overall very good, but not as amazing as ND's best one yet - The Last of Us. My advice, ND should have focused a bit less on the graphics and more on the story and characters and I'm sure it would have turned out a perfect game.

This series 1-4, especially 4, the degree of repetition is too high, such as looking for the box, looking for his teammates, and ultimately rely on the feelings of the clearance of the single.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. OK so this score comes from a person who actually played and finished the game and is based on the single player part only.
    What i liked:
Great graphics for a console game, with very much attention to detail; An interesting pirate subplot which develops as you progress further into the story and as you collect and read the notes scattered through the game (more interesting than the main plot itself); The same cinematic experience from the previous games, with intense scripted scenes and frenetic gunfights; Much improved enemy AI who tends to flank you and not let you stay in one place.
    What i disliked:
Dumb friendly AI who just follows you around, and whose main and only purpose is to tell you how to solve puzzles and where to go next; Boring segments of gameplay from Drakes past (and future) where you just walk around for hours and interact with objects; Horrible voice acting and appearance on the Elena character; Predictable and improvised storyline, with way to many cut-scenes.
Also, the stealth mechanic sucks and it doesn't really belongs in an Uncharted game. The vehicle was an interesting addition but its used only in like 2 or 3 chapters.
Its mostly a love it or hate it kind of game and it all comes down to personal taste.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After playing uncharted 2, uncharted 3 and last of us my expectations for this game got bigger. The initial game pace is almost similar to the last of us. It starts slowly and gains it's momentum.
Though the game starts slowly it is never boring and scene where you play crash bandicoot was like "wow".
The story is really amazing and characters have some strong role. Previous character like Khloe and cutter are omitted but there are some reference to them. The gameplay and the shooting mechanics are great. As I told there are sequence where you can totally avoid action and prefer stealth. The stealth mechanics is superb and the usage of grass for cover is really great. The chase sequence in Madagascar and the sequence where the building collapses in the forest are the best. Naughty dogs- they are the best in story telling and they never disappoint in that. When they announced that this will be the last game in the series I was scared that they'll go for a sad ending but there's nothing like that.
As a whole this is one of the best game I've played and comes under the must own category.
    It's a 10 out of 10 for me.

Beautiful game to look at but very little substance in gameplay, combat is average, puzzles are trivial (hey just look at these diagrams in the journal!), too much climbing and watching drake almost fall of a ledge that gets comical, very tedious you spent hours In this game climbing ledges (which is not fun or challenging)

Uncharted 4 is simply the definition of a next-gen cinematic game. The story is amazing and Nathan feel like a human more instead of a killing machine. The game is slightly flawed because of the number of climbing and sliding but the story itself makes up for it. The gameplay is great (the best in the series so far).

Incredibly refined piece of art and game. Huge playground to explore and do gunfights. Gorgeous visuals. Overall, didn't quite do it for me though coz Elena played such a small part. Its a bromance story afterall. Endured the headache-inducing 30fps. Can't imagine how sweet if it'd been done on PC + VR! It's funny, gorgeous and exciting. There are so many good points about this game that I'm just going to say the only things that I didn't like. That is the the frag spamming and having to find boxes to reach higher areas. The frag spamming is so dated and I thought that Naughty Dog would of done away with it, but no no. Then there is finding boxes to reach higher areas. OK this is OK once or twice, but they spammed that so much I hated it.
However what Naughty Dog has done in this game makes me think they should be working for NASA and not Sony.
I would love to give the game a 10 to throw of those 0 from Xbox fanboys which is so obvious by clicking on their name to see there 10's for only Xbox games. How sad right. So I'm giving it a 9.5, OK 9 as I can't do 9.5. I gave it less because of the issues I mentioned already and MP which just seems a little cheesy.

A globe trotting adventure filled with wonder, mystery and excitement like Indiana Jones was going to turn into a chase movie called National Treasure. Yes, some of the action sequences were very well crafted and amazing to play through. Uncharted 4 was the most technically polished installment and a sight to behold in the whole franchise. However, it was the pacing of the story in the third act that dragged it down like a 4x4 jeep struggling through thick mud.

The problem was the developers were trying to duplicate their success in The Last of Us. They tried to make it more gritty and realistic, this sucked out the wonder and discovery that were the hallmarks of the series. Think of a Survivor Island type reality show where ordinary people were at each other's throats for a shot at fame and fortune. Nothing more, nothing less. No wonder, no mystery.

The third act was filled with repetitive environmental puzzles and endless CoD inspired battles of A.I. grenade spamming and cheap enemy sniper kills. The end of the story was nearly in sight, but it felt like the developers were trying to prolong the playtime and it felt like a slog.

If you are long time fan of the Uncharted series and you are a completionist, Uncharted 4 still entertains as it does have its moments. However, it is a beautiful view with an empty hole in the ground where the hear and soul of the series has been long dug out.

The best part of the game was the story, for me it felt more like one of those walking simulators, where you just take in the surroundings and enjoy the story. It was a story I could actually enjoy as well, which is rare for these types of games, the characters were amazing ad the animation made it s believable. Rise of the Tomb Raider just never hit home for me because everyone looks so dead eyed while talking to each other.

I tried to play through the first three games recently and I still hate them, I don't think they were good games. However Uncharted 4 fixes most of the issues I had and then just excels immensely with the story. The only thing I can pick at the game for is how you have to keep giving boosts when you've jumped further than that, you have to keep finding the same looking box with wheels to get up places. Also another weird thing is how you have to keep lifting fallen beams to get through passages, when you can easily fit around three people through at once.

Amazing experience, but I do wish the Neo came before it as you can tell where they cut the corners.. mainly on the character shadows. There is also this weird effect where everything looks like it is made out of thousands of dots, that fades in and out even when objects are really close, like they had to work aggressively on the LoD to get it to look as good as it does on the PS4.

These characters are just so enjoyable, and you'll be happy to be swept away to high adventure.

This is easily the best narrative-driven action game I've played in forever. It's hilarious, touching and exciting. It's got a tighter build, with a lot of the overlong gunfights of yore trimmed down into a very streamlined experience with just the right amount of every game-play element to make it constantly fun and fresh. Everything about the action, and every single scene, just feel right. From a gameplay perspective - my only gripe is the grappling hook, as that is usually the result of a poor platformer regaining balance. There's also the problem with grappling hooks in videogames in general in that, you guys, grappling hooks don't work that way and it's easily the most unbelievable thing in all of Uncharted, jumps, explosions, curses and all. Fortunately it's not as overused as you'd expect and makes for some cool bits - I wouldn't wish it away, merely that it wasn't so cartoonish.

And like I said - this thing is GORGEOUS. Not just the fidelity of the particles; it looks like a water painting at times, and at others it's photo realistic. Scenes are stuffed to the gills with detail, some of which interactable. It's a MAGNIFICENT world that feels lush and lived in and rich and, most of all, real (but with highlighted ledges everywhere :P )

Bottom line is - play this game's campaign. It is almost a perfect action-platforming shooter experience wrapped in gorgeous graphics and loveable characters and dialogue, and that is no hyperbole - it is a pinnacle of a long career of missteps (Uncharted 3) and almosts (Uncharted 1); Naughty Dog worked long and hard to get here, and they deserve the accolades.

As for multiplayer... well, honestly, who cares for arena multiplayer anymore? It's fun, but that's not why you buy an Uncharted.

Despite the stakes implied by the title and the press releases leading up to the game's debut, Uncharted 4 is an ultimately underwhelming finale to what was once a groundbreaking series. The game fails to match either the excitement of its predecessors or the insightful storytelling of The Last of Us.

The least interesting set pieces from Uncharted 2 are recycled multiple times for the latest installment. In fact, you can expect a few mundane mechanics to be re-used for extended sequences throughout the game. The worst of these is driving, which has awful controls, even for scripted chase scenes. The player will yearn for the days when Chloe (Claudia Black) was at the wheel, delivering sharp lines and leaving Drake free to hop from vehicle to vehicle.

The space between these set pieces is padded with seemingly endless walking and talking. I did not mind this feature at all in The Last of Us (or its excellent DLC, which was almost only walking and talking), because every conversation helped us learn more about our characters and their relationships to each other. But while Uncharted 4 tries to do that to some degree, entire chapters have been filled with small talk that is neither insightful or amusing. Case in point: In one of the later chapters, young Nathan was not allowed to leave a room until he had spun a globe no less than 4 times and his know-it-all brother told him which landmarks he should visit when he grows up. The entire chapter requires you chat about seemingly every worthless artifact in a mansion before moving on.

Worse than anything else, the game fails when it is about to transcend the low story-telling standards set by other games (I'm looking at you, Tomb Raider [reboot]! Oh, what could have been save cheesy lines...). I cannot be specific in this regard without revealing spoilers, but moments that should be sobering are instead written campily, undercutting the tension where there SHOULD be tension after hours of paint-by-numbers drama. The result is an ending that lacks catharsis, proceeded by a mind-numbing epilogue that adds NOTHING interesting or insightful to the story. I was wishing the game would just end the moment that terrible feeling of de ja vu started.

Despite all that and a few technical glitches here or there, the game is still competently put together and a beauty to behold. You could do worse at the theater for $50 cheaper looking for a similar blockbuster experience. So while the game does not live up to the standards Naughty Dog has recently set for itself, It would still be a shame to miss one last outing with Drake and company.

A final thought, though: I honestly wonder what Amy Hennig could have done short of **** on a desk to get shut-out by Naughty Dog on this project, considering how closely it has stuck to her formula, overall.

For those of us that have been along from the beginning, the (supposed) final chapter should come as a fitting - though unexpected - conclusion, thanks in large part to a refreshing staff change behind the scenes. If, like me, you were wondering how an adventurous rascal reconciles the mundane world of employment, bills and marriage versus bullets, travel and treasure; here you go.

There's little to review here that veterans won't already expect: climbing, gunplay, exploration, cut-scenes (not necessarily in that order.) Instead, the devils in the details. Visually the game is sumptuously decorated, careful to dish out ever-increasing levels of eye candy from chapter to chapter, all the more impressive considering no load times beyond the initial. Certain chapters open up the level, giving you a vehicle, and letting you roam at your leisure, helping to offset the relatively linear nature of the series.

Gunplay feels familiar and, in many instances, can be bypassed altogether with stealth and patience. Ground foliage dotted throughout provide plenty of opportunities to snap necks incognito. Areas of confrontation have been opened up horizontally and vertically, with many an enemy above and below to contend with, driven by smarter, more aggressive tactics. The inclusion of a Grappling Hook helps to balance this by providing more options for mobility, and capable AI companions will help you out in times of need.

Helmed by Neil Druckmann (The Last of Us), the story unfolds at its own pace, not afraid to holster the guns for a time in order to establish character and relationships. Whilst a well-worn structure is still adhered to: travel to new country, locate ruin, decipher clue to next location, rinse and repeat -- the higher stakes this time round help to propel us forward nonetheless, managing to juggle the more serious tone alongside the constant, light-hearted quipping.

Length will vary based on difficulty and time spent exploring but, in my opinion, falls a little too long, much like many games and movies -- a debate for another time.

Multiplayer is a blast: easy to get into, plenty of unlocks and frantic slices of mayhem. Connection issues are a problem, but there are also trials to keep you occupied that help introduce you to the mechanics and resources at your disposal during the down times.

And that's it. A gorgeous Indiana Jones style romp through various locales in pursuit of pirate booty. An easy purchase.

As an aside, choose crushing difficulty at your peril--you will be tested.

    And now about a game.
So U4 is a big improvement not only for Uncharted series but for whole genre and probably for game industry. All these details and care which presents in game is blowing away my mind.

Animations are phenomenal(both face and movements). Also I can clearly see impact from Last Of Us. That part has more emotions and more dramatic than predecessors. Gameplay is fantastic. In previous parts I didn't really like shooter part of the game but here I want even more of that. And oh man that chase part from E3 gameplay trailer is another level of action in games. Only one thing that I found weak is puzzles they are brainless. But is not gonna change that fact that is the best game on PS4 and best game of that generation. I'm really excited to see whats next!

I don't think this game needs any more positive reviews. It's obvious it's about the highest quality you can expect from a game publisher. The graphics exceed anything else out there so far, including PC. The game-play is refined and addictive. It really doesn't get much better than this. Any negative reviews have to be coming from those that don't have access to it.

Stating that the forthcoming game will be the last rendezvous with a popular, charismatic hero is a rare phenomenon. I congratulate Naughty Dog on their courage and in spite of myself keep my fingers crossed for them to stick to their decision. The farewell party they threw for Nate is simply spectacular. This is how I want to remember him, not as an old man who rubbed his joints with pain cream and then found a UFO. Uncharted 4 is a brilliant game and a breathtaking demonstration of what PS4 is capable of. [07/2016, p.56]
