This game is definitely worth the purchase and an amazing work of art. The graphics are unmatched and the story is perfect and engaging. The attention to detail was impeccable. A bittersweet end to a great series that will leave you wanting more. Great work, Naughty Dog. You have raised the bar once again.

First, it needs to have a great story that satisfies both fans of its franchise, as well as new players. Second, it needs to have exciting gameplay that requires quick thinking and fast reactions. Third, it needs to have elements that involve critical thinking and takes more time and in depth concentration. Fourth, it needs to balance these aspects in a fashion that keeps the game interesting, and doesn't make it feel repetitive and/or boring. The Uncharted series has done this very well from the first game through the fourth. The fourth and final installment, however, did something a little bit extra. It finished the story and finished it well. Stories that follow a central character have to reach an inevitable conclusion. Unlike stories that follow broader socio-political concepts, which can change and adapt to continue on, stories based on a central character needs an end for audiences to be truly satisfied. Uncharted 4 does this in spectacular fashion. It includes chapters from the past that reveals the depth of the Nathan Drake character, allowing for greater character development than we've seen in previous titles. The game also shows us how Nathan Drake has learned from his previous experiences, and applies that wisdom to finally (spoiler alert) let go of his wild ambitions for treasure and adventure, and to finally settle down with Elena. So no more lost cities and cursed treasure for Nathan. Just a cozy life with his business and family. A satisfying conclusion for a fun and entertaining game franchise. Expand

Overall I’m disappointed with Uncharted 4.

But first the good. The graphics and artwork are outstanding, the artists and developers that created the world should be proud. Some of the views and vistas are breathtaking. For me the game was bug free, which is a rare thing these days, good job ND, you sold me a working product. The addition of vehicles and stealth combat were a welcome addition.

Now for the mediocre. The story is boring, and a departure from what drew me to the Uncharted series. I just felt no need to advance the story. Unfortunately, the writers seemed to think that the pinnacle of treasure hunting came from the Goonies movie, so they borrowed heavily from it. Here’s the Google description of the movie:

“When two brothers find out they might lose their house (die) they are desperate to find a way to keep their home (stay alive). They find a treasure map and bring some friends along to find it. They are all out looking for the "X" and trying to get away from a group of bad guys who also want the treasure.”

When the last chapter came I had images of Chunk and Sloth sliding down the sail to save their friends. I almost tossed my controller into the TV screen. The gaming industry as a whole suffers terribly from bad stories but this just felt cheap.

The Bad. The combat is just terrible; enemies appear out of nowhere. Everyone, including Nate is a bullet sponge. There’s a battle on the beach where I threw three grenades at a guy in succession, and then shot him in the face with an RPG, he killed me a few seconds later, not even wounded. That’s some tough body armor. Apparently, you need to knock his helmet off first with a “tink” from any bullet, then you can kill him with a headshot, absolutely ridiculous. I did like the stealth combat addition, but the rest is just a technical mess of unbalanced garbage.

Puzzles, were those puzzles or just mash buttons until a door opens? A three-year-old could’ve solved those. Seriously, open your magic journal and see the order, really? Just uninspired junk, no effort at all, you’re an embarrassment to the real artists that created a great world for you to tell a story in.

Treasure collection of useless junk, WHY?! To all game developers, I don’t want to collect, useless treasures, feathers, songs sheets, it’s not fun. RPG’s have loot collection to progress the development of a character’s abilities. Uncharted is not an RPG, it’s an interactive movie, please stop with the collection of junk! If the collection of loot doesn’t alter or change the story or develop the character, then it’s just useless.

Multiplayer, I just don’t care, there are so many better alternatives for multiplayer. It’s inclusion into this game is just an afterthought to entice you to pay for the PSN service, and to buy into micro-transactions. Frankly, this is the reason most of my friends are giving up on consoles all together and switching back to PC gaming.

Conclusion, if you like the Uncharted series then you should rent this game to see its conclusion. It’s not worth buying, you won’t play it twice. Frankly, the combat is bad, and the platforming is repetitive. Watching a Let’s Play on You Tube is the best solution. I’m giving this game a 7 just because of the graphics and the gorgeous world the artists created. This game would have been a 5 or even a 4 without the graphics.

The enemies have a little of AI since they're not just standing waiting to die, they try to surprise you and that's cool; same AI that your stupid brother lacks. He can't cover any side and when he screams to alarm you, you're already dead, so you're basically by yourself even when he's with you a lot of the time. However the story sure is well written but it's also kind of boring and predictable. The landscapes are amazing but not interactive at all. It's a linear game in an amazing world.
As a final commentary I would say is a good end to the series and for the Uncharted fans (as me) and you will enjoy it even if you're not but maybe it won't create enough interest to play the previous games and it has absolutely no replay value. If you can, I would recommend just renting it, you are going to like it but you're not playing it again and 60 bucks is a lot for a one-play game.

By the end of the game, I felt in retrospect though that the pacing created the most memorable entry in the series where you can play it through again and really pick up every small detail. The only other game in the series I played multiple times through was UC2 and this one was much more captivating. Some of the negative reviews (beyond the troll posts and the 0 ratings which are worthless for accurate reviews) might also be due to this pacing issue where it did feel labourious at times trudging through some of the levels, but the level of detail and work that went into this is truly phenomenal. There are many good games which excel at fast gameplay or one liners, but this game portrayed a degree of realism and grit which was not present before in the series. Overall its a great fit for players that enjoy nuance, explorable scenes and a level of detail that creates a feeling of immersion. The soundtrack is also quite good and I recommend playing with a good set of headphones. Expand

Traversing the environments is a great deal of fun and i have been side tracked on a fair few occasions just looking around the various places you visit in the game, the story is just as interesting as the previous three Uncharted games.

Overall this is a masterpiece the only down side it that it ended

Side note to anyone who has not played Uncharted before and is interested in playing it i recommend getting the uncharted collection first while the story is not linked Uncharted 4 does mention things that have happened in previous games plus it was fun getting to know the characters over the cause of the three previous games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off I created an account just to review this game.
Okay so as of now I have finished the game and I have to say this game is magnificent. I personally feel as if this game has topped the series and nearly any game that has been or to come in the future, When I first played Uncharted 1 it was because a friend recommended the series as I really enjoyed Tomb Raider and various games of this genre. I completed the first game and feel in love soon after playing the Uncharted 2 and then proceeded by Uncharted 3. I felt at the time I loved Uncharted 2 and 3's stories equally but loved Uncharted 3's mechanics and game play even more... well this game tops both of those with the mechanics of the game to even the story with even some nostalgia to The Last of Us giraffe scene with the pirate island with lemurs in this game

    Deutsche Review:

    - deutsche Audiospur manchmal leise
    - zwei bekannte Charaktere haben keinen Auftritt

    Meine Punkte: 92/100
    In Ratingform: 9/10

Multiplayer is based on the weakest dynamic in the game (shooting) and it brings nothing new to the 10-men-in-a-box table so I'm never going to play it - if you're buying the game for MP, knock another point off.
It's sad that story-based games have to include a multiplayer option at all IMO but I guess that it's to stop everyone trading it in as soon as they've played through the story.

I've been hearing some complaints about the pacing, but I felt like it was good. I don't think pacing is as important in a game overall, since you typically won't sit down and play the game in one sitting, like you would watching a film. Either way, the pacing was a little different than the other games, and the last half spends most of its time in one setting... but the entire first game was on an island, so I wasn't bothered at all. I loved the open gameplay of taking out enemies, I could really see a series like this becoming open world and working out very well. All of the mechanics were flawless. I did find myself jumping off a cliff here and there, but every time it felt like I did something stupid, whereas in previous games it was totally the game. It took me a little over 13 hours to comfortably play through it on my first run, and it could have easily been longer. There is a trophy for beating it in under 6, but I don't see that happening easily. I loved everything about the single player, and the multiplayer thus far seems great. There are "microtransactions" for coins you can earn in the game, but you don't need them at all. You can totally play the entire multiplayer experience without purchasing one thing, and still unlocking it all. I don't get the negative reviews at all, they should really be removed. Expand

This is good final game in a series of fun action adventure games. I can see that not everyone would be into this, lots of cut-scenes and a bit light on game play in the first 6 chapters. Many levels are kind of linear. But the art direction, graphics, story, acting, controls, AI, and script are as good as I have seen in a video game. I am enjoying it a lot.

I have yet to play a game I would give a 0 too. This is about as far from a 0 as it gets. Not everyone has to like it, but giving a this game a zero is total stupidity!

It is like a Metal Gear Solid game, but the cutscenes make sense and are really interesting and engaging. So, I'm really enjoying this piece of entertainment, but it is in a different way than I'd expected. Still well worth the price, as everything is in the top notch of quality, and the content duration is akin to a 3-6 part movie series, gameplay aside. My favorite part of the gameplay is the puzzle solving, something I also really enjoyed in the previous games. There are few experiences to be had in gaming like this one, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. Expand

One guy even went so far to say that Quantum Break was a 10.....c'mon man....stop kidding yourself. He also gave Halo 5 a 10 out of 10 and Halo 5 is the worst Halo of the entire series.

    Now for the review:

If you've played all of the previous Uncharted games and the Last of us, then you will definitely not be disappointed. The same gorgeous cinematics, the same great game play and the same ridiculously awesome character development that these game have offered time and time again. Naughty Dog hasn't missed a beat with Uncharted 4 and I'm glad they took the time to postpone it a few times to make sure everything was as great as it is now.

The single player campaign is as great as every other one. Would I say it's the best one? I would say it's hard to beat Uncharted 2 but it's definitely neck and neck. Once I give it a couple of more play throughs, I can definitely give that final verdict at another time. The story drags a little bit in some parts but it isn't as disappointing as some of the critic reviews have said. I was really hoping they would add the crafting and upgrading features that The Last Of Us had, but it isn't a deal break. The game is so fluid and so remarkable that these little features can be passed on. The character interactions are amazing. There's literally parts where if you're climbing on a wall and your brother Sam is next to you, if you have to get over and across from where he is hanging on to, you will grab on his shoulders and then move. These little details is what makes this game great. Most games would make you go around the other character. Theres so much detail in this game it makes you appreciate the amount of work and effort that ND put into it. Simple gestures, body movements and on the fly speaking make the game remarkable.

The multiplayer is even better than before. I admit, I was a Last of Us multiplayer addict. They added something to PVP in the LAst of Us that no one else was doing and it felt so refreshing to play that game time and time again. I'm glad they brought a good bit of those PVP elements in the Last of us to UC4. Getting kills gets you points, those points are used to upgrade your abilities or whatever else you have available. You get 4 slots of upgrades to you character with a couple of slots for upgrades to your guns as well. The perks and passive abilities are awesome. You can buy a AI helper that follows you around with in match currency that you get from kills, assists and KOs. These AI helpers can be one of three people; A Healer, A Sniper or a Tank. The tank follows you around where you go and starts mowing down people in sight. Think of these things as sort of a Kill Streak reward. There's also the "super" abilities, as Iike to call them. I believe there are 4 different abilities to choose from. Once you get enough funds to purchase it, you get one and when you see a group of enemies close by, drop that super off and start raking in the kills and ko's! There's also an ability that you set down that auto revives any of your fellow teammates that haven't been ko'd yet.

This is one of the best games I've ever played in my entire life and I will suggest it to anyone. Once the story is done the PVP aspect of the game is so refreshing and fun that you can play it for multiple hours and wonder where the time has gone. There is so much replay power with the PVP portion of the game and I was so impressed with it because most games that have great single player campaigns usually lack in the MP area. This is one of those games that do them both very well, just like the last of us did.

For these reasons alone the game gets my 8 out of 10 and my recommendation that it's worth playing.

However, I'm rather disappointed with the combat mechanics in Uncharted 4. Gunplay in the Uncharted series has always been lackluster so it baffles the mind that they fine tuned the gunplay for this entry while simultaneously making the combat revolve almost entirely around stealth.

Except when playing the two easiest difficulties, Uncharted 4 plays more like a Metal Gear Solid clone rather than the previous Uncharted games. Getting caught out of stealth puts ALL the nearby enemies into alert, making them immediately target you with ridiculous accuracy. Your only hope of survival is to run away, break alert status and regain stealth. Straight up head-on gunfights will kill you almost every time, especially with enemies who can consistently lob grenades that land at your feet or thread bullets through the smallest of windows regardless of cover.

Previous Uncharted titles were action shooters where stealth was given an additional reward (in terms of extra items dropping) but Uncharted 4 is a stealth shooter where action is almost penalized (in terms of AI being able to off the player with cheap tactics). This design is frustrating, to say the least.

I'm kinda glad this is supposedly the final chapter of Nathan Drake as it allows me to turn the page on the Uncharted franchise and not feel bad about skipping any future entries, especially if this shift in combat design is Naughty Dog's plan going forward. Addendum: Having now finished the game, I can say the ending was well worth any amount of gameplay frustration the game dished out along the way. That said, given the ending, I just can't see myself playing any future Uncharted titles. This franchise simply *feels* complete now.

I finished it today and I can safely say it's the best of the series, Naughty Dog have improved every aspect of the game, most notably the visuals which are incredible. What's more impressive is the fact the game runs so well with those visuals, for the record I'm a "60fps guy" and 30fps usually hurts games for me but not this time, the devs did an amazing job of making 30fps feel smoother than it ever has with impressive motion blur and a mostly stable frame rate. When it's hitting its target it feels very fluid but it does have random slowdown at times and it's really noticeable when it happens because the game runs so well most of the time, sadly this slowdown happens during the final chapter and it really did taint the ending for me.

The gameplay has also been improved, it just feels much better to play, especially when aiming and during melee combat. The devs even "stole" a little something from Tomb Raider where you can insert your climbing pick into porous walls, it's a small detail but it makes the climbing sections have a little more depth.

I have never felt so attached to the characters on screen before, the feels were definitely brought this time, and because the visuals were so incredible everyone felt so real. It won't have you crying like The Last of Us, but the emotion was there this time when it has been lacking in the past.

Overall the game was brilliant, a true technical marvel but far more than that. Oh and if you didn't know it comes with a fully fledged multiplayer mode with multiple modes, a good selection of maps and countless unlockables to keep you busy, it's actually a lot of fun and adds quite a bit of value to your purchase so you should definitely check it out after finishing the campaign.

Uncharted 4 caps off a series with a masterful and emotionally epic finale.

Voice acting, animation, game mechanics, and especially visuals are all top of class, and makes Uncharted 4 the best exclusive title this generation, and one of the best titles out on PS4.

Uncharted 4 is a great game. It has it's own flaws in terms of repetitive gameplay but for me this the best game in the series. The graphics and level design are amazing. Sure, you can beat the game in 20 hours, but you can easily spend another 20 hours exploring the world around you. Not just searching for collectibles, but looking at the details, enjoying the views and making screenshots. This game is one the most beautiful games I've played in my life (another being Witcher 3). I'm still half way through the story, so I might update my score later, but so far it's looks interesting, with a lot of great characters. Lots of improvements compared to U3.

It's a ND game, so it's unfair to score these on the same scale we use for non-ND games, as they would all be 10s in comparison.

The environment is great and I had to force myself not to stop and take a picture every five minutes. The only thing that holds the game ever-slightly back would be its pacing and drawn out story. I was ready for things to get moving and the game teases you over and over. That being said, Uncharted 4 is a ton of fun. It’s a console-selling title, deservedly, that demands your attention. A serious game of the year contender that will be remembered for years to come. 9.8/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 9/10 would be my final, and honest, rating for this amazing game. I finished it yesterday and I have to say that it is probably my favorite Uncharted game with U2 really close in 2nd place. People who are posting "0's" for this game have either had a momentarily mental lapse in judgement or are just being horribly bias towards this sony exclusive. That is what's wrong with the user scores for game's like this because people justify their outrageously high or low score because they feel like the other reviews didn't justify their own opinion. Listen to the critic scores with this one because there is just an immature flaming party going on here...
Anyways, This game had just about everything you would come to expect from an uncharted series and more but I felt like it suffered a but from the main director being replaced. She had a style for these games that was apparent in the past installments but is nearly absent here. Sorry, trying to be vague not to spoil anything. If you guys really enjoyed U1-3 go buy this now because it's unforgettable or you can just wait until Tomb Raider 3 will come out and borrow even more concepts making it merely just a clone of U4.

Instead of clicking read this "review" here (w/o last paragraph):

"The trouble with trilogies is that they almost never end at three. The same kind of thinking that assumes three parts will be necessary to tell a single story will inevitably need a fourth and fifth shot at getting things right. In that way, “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” feels as inevitable as it does unnecessary. Each new entry has strained to add something new to its post-Imperialist pulp fantasies of treasure hunting in far-away lands. It’s a game in which a character reaching for a door knob might trigger the whole building to collapse, leaving them left dangling by three fingers over a subterranean chasm.

The first three games followed Nathan Drake in search of treasures lost to the modern world — El Dorado, Shangri-La, and Iram of the Pillars. They were weightless fables in which a hero did the work of nations — sneaking across borders, driving into areas still untouched by government census or GPS satellites, and hopefully walking away with a few crates of gold for his trouble.

As a video game, this sense of adventuring was reduced to three essential pieces — long shootouts against mercenaries; interludes of cliff-climbing and ruins-clambering; and lavish movie sequences in which characters try to establish some emotional bond between an unlikely crew of helpers stuck working with Nathan. The games never made the case for why Nathan thought this was a better way to find a fortune than day trading, but the thrill of dangling from a newly disgorged tree root while being fired upon by RPGs was enough to make the series a success.

“A Thief’s End” attempts to add something new to this formula by digging deeper into the psychology of its hero. The title and gloomy cover art suggest that someone’s going to have to die in order to gift players with enlightening insight into the business of treasure hunting. Will the man who defined himself through action be undone by the horrors of self-reflection?

In an interview with Eurogamer, the game’s co-creative director Neil Druckmann promised to, more or less, burn the house down on his way out: “with the end of this story it will be really hard to do a sequel with Nathan Drake. Maybe there’ll be a prequel, maybe it will be a different character — I don’t know. But this is the end for Nathan Drake.” It sounds almost too good to be true.

“A Thief’s End” begins with Nathan having already quit. He’s retired from treasure hunting and happily married to Elena, the photojournalist who tagged along on his first adventure. The couple is leading a comfortable middle class life in New Orleans when Nathan’s brother Sam randomly appears. Nathan thought Sam had died during a caper in Panama 15 years earlier, but instead he was just stuck in a local prison, from which he escaped by promising a local drug lord money from a mythical treasure he and Nathan had been tracking when they were separated all those years back — the forgotten booty of the 17th Century pirate Henry Avery.

Nathan is guilted out of retirement and plunged back into the familiar whorl of guns and survivalist parkour to save his brother’s skin, a man who’s incrementally more reckless and selfish than Nathan. This is telegraphed by the vague cosmetic sleights of a dubious neck tattoo and receding hairline.

The first few hours of the game jumps backward and forward through time, making it seem like there might be more behind each unanswered question than there is. The second half becomes a laborious trudge across a small but inexhaustible part of the Malagasy coast searching for the lost pirate colony of Libertalia. The brothers argue about their dead mother and Nathan begins to wonder whether his commitment to his last remaining blood relation is ruining his marriage. They process their feelings by shouting lines at each other like: “This has nothing to do with that!” And “This has everything to do with that!”

The “Uncharted” games have never excelled at storytelling. Instead, they’ve used it an accompaniment to overwhelming visual technology. The games have always struck me as garish more than gorgeous, more interested in overwhelming the senses than communicating with them. “A Thief’s End” is overflowing with useless detail. It overwhelms the eye with so many different points of focus that one almost clings to the over-the-shoulder focal point at the center of the screen, where the gun reticle can at least hint at a potential ways of engaging with all of the simulated objects and effects that are otherwise impossible to identify, let alone differentiate.

I'm nine chapters in and i can't help but be in awe of the experience of playing this game. The graphics are amazing, the voice acting is spot on--complete with all the charm and humor we've come to know and love from this series, and the gameplay is near perfect. There are a few minor gripes that I have: 1) the game, at times, tries to be like the Metal Gear games, whereas it almost seems like the game forces you to play stealthily in some sections. There are a given number of enemies in an area, and taking them out with stealth IS fun, but if they spot you all of a sudden dozens of them come out of the woodwork. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with white-knuckle shootouts, but it can be a bit frustrating at times, 2) there are certain times where the graphics CAN be a bit blurry. It's nothing major, and maybe it's intentional, but it was a little immersion breaking for me. However, these are VERY minor gripes when weighed against the whole experience of the game, which is epic to say the least!

Now, as far as these XBox/PC fan boys getting on here and giving the game 0s I have just one thing to say: grow the f*ck up! I mean if you prefer Microsoft products over Sony that's fine, more power to you, but bashing a game that's doing well with critics just because it's not on YOUR platform is childish and petty. I'm a Sony guy myself to be honest, but I don't go onto the user reviews of XBox games and hate on THOSE titles for no reason. Get a life, really! Just like what you like and keep your narrow-minded opinions to yourself.

But I digress. In closing, do yourself a favor and get this game. You won't regret it!

Story is good, but it's not really great. It felt detached from the previous games. For it to be a great grand ending to the series, i kind of would have wanted a Treasure that was foreshadowed in all of the previous games and tied in with the earlier installments. Instead we get a story of Nates personal life, his inability to balance his "normal life" with the adventurous life he has lead thus far. Trust is the center of the games message, and it reminds us of that several times.
The villain of the game is kind of bland, he reminds me of the main villains of the previous games, in fact he does so a lot.
It's good, however it could have been better.

Action is decent, ok weapon feel. Just ok though, nothing great, however i think very few people buy this game for the action. It's pretty much a movie :).

Puzzles are too easy, would have been ok without the book or at least Nate scribbling down every little thing. Well i guess him not doing so would have made little sense.

Stating that the forthcoming game will be the last rendezvous with a popular, charismatic hero is a rare phenomenon. I congratulate Naughty Dog on their courage and in spite of myself keep my fingers crossed for them to stick to their decision. The farewell party they threw for Nate is simply spectacular. This is how I want to remember him, not as an old man who rubbed his joints with pain cream and then found a UFO.
