Stealth baby! It's a real option. In previous games you'd be lucky if you can take down one guy before everybody freaked out and started shooting. I'm really surprised they improved that part of the game as I thought the tone of Uncharted was a crazy wild ride shooter with cutscenes to match. Don't get me wrong still crazy wild action to be had in this game.

Too much climbing not enough action. I mean they improved the action! Why have less of it? The climbing is improved too, now with swinging, but at times the pacing get's real lopsided because of the focus on it.

Let's face it, the success of Uncharted has always been due to the production value and the wild ride of a story and this is the best one.

One of the best narrative driven games i've ever played. Great story and great characters, (even better if you've played the original 3 games), and fun gameplay make this a great experience. Really makes you feel like you're on an adventure, tons of fun.

It's a must buy, and the best ps4 exclusive game to date. That being said, I am disappointed at Naughty Dog for making this game. Naughty Dog is most likely the best developer to date, and they keep pushing the limits with how far video games can go in terms of graphics, story, game play, and how fluid a game feels.

The problem with this game, though, is that Naughty Dog had to climb an uphill battle in order to make it. Nathan's story was finished before Uncharted 4. So creating a story out of an already closed ending was going to be tough feat from the start. And Naughty Dog knew this. That's why they spent so much time trying to create the structure of the story and script. You can easily tell the work they put in the writing. The writing and voice acting is truly fantastic, but I'm disappointed that they chose to use their talents in order to make a game that will have a capped story. The starting formula of the game was too bad for these developers.

Remember when The Last of Us came out? The bareness of it? The intensity? The story? The message? One of the reasons The Last of Us was able to be a great game was because it started from scratch. The developers had the freedom to create a new story with new characters and a fresh start. Uncharted 4 could never have been just as great because the story and plot had to be restricted due to the previous games. The ending of Uncharted 3 showed Nate getting out of the treasure hunting life. Adding Sam, Nate's brother, into the equation was the only way for Nate to get back into the game. It was inevitably forced. That being said, though, the development of Sam through out the game was beautiful. You like him, then you hate him, then you understand him, and then you see the love between him and Nate. I guess I just wished that Naughty Dog would've made a whole new franchise with new characters and a new format. I give it a 9.8 just because I know Naughty Dog can do better.

Still one of the best games I've ever played, and easily game of the year. If you haven't bought it yet, you are missing out. Naughty Dog will be the bridge between movie entertainment and video game entertainment. I thank these game developers for showing true care and passion in their product and their fans.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Uncharted 4 is undoubtedly the most well crafted game in the series, however it lacks the set pieces that the series is known for

Story:the story is easily the best in the series, however it does make some plotholes in the series. Such as marlowe not mentioning sam when she was going through drake's history. the villain(s) (rafe and nadine) are the best in the series. However rafe not letting nadine go at the end of the game made no sense since he would have gotten more of the treasure for himself which ultimately led to his death. Speaking of that the death of rafe isn't as brutal or as cool as the previous villain deaths in the series (having treasure fall on him). And as shockign as rafe revealing that he freed sam i still don't know why didn't nate just look up hector alcazar or the prison breakout overall the story is a 9.5/10

Gameplay:The shooting is much improved and the hand to hand combat is very satisfying. However as good as the gameplay is it is set aside for storytelling and character development. The game lacks the set pieces that the series is known for,for example in uncharted 2 you have a helicopter chase, jump out of a falling building, climb up a train,go through a train, escape from security guards however in uncharted 4 you just escape a collapsing tower and fall down a tower so overall i give it an 9/10

Sound/music :good as ever however it isn't very intense overall it's a 9/10

Graphics:Phenomenal amazing the facial animations, the lighting, the graphics the enviroments amazing 10/10

overall:it is either the best or the second best in the series so the final score is a 9.3/10

The gameplay was improved at most part and the use of the rope mechanic and stealth is more than welcome to the game, but I would have loved to see upgrades like The Last of Us gave and ways of punishment if the player was only using one tactic or strategy making a deeper mechanics in gameplay. The graphics were phenomenal and it is the best one to date that I have seen, also the environment, lighting, physics, and character interaction was beautifully done and made the game more atmospheric and immersive. The voice acting is still the best that any video game can offer, the dialogue gave life to the characters, the pacing was good too making not only the brother's relationship beneficial to the story but also made the brother a lovable character. The single player just gave the best there is to this game and even without the multiplayer you will get your money's worth. I rate this game a 10/10! Not only is this game a revolutionary game for the PS4 but it is revolutionary for the whole gaming industry. The game is well paced, with some slower sections breaking up the huge action set pieces. When things go wrong they go wrong in spectacular fashion ands the series is well known for this; huge explosions and death defying leaps, it makes for an Indiana Jones game.
you'll not find too much in the way of story unless you've played the first three as Uncharted 4 takes you on an emotional story, it takes the already heavily progressed characters and gives them new motives and purpose. It's obvious that the writers from he Last of Us had a hand in this given that I actually welled up once or twice.
Naughty Dogs Initiative for Common Engine team has clearly been hard at work; the games engine is insane. The visuals are something else, I've seen some negative comments about them, one being that Crysis 3 was better? I've played both and the graphics on this game have advanced my play time by 90 minutes according to the stats (time spent stood still) as I often stop to slowly pan the camera and take obnoxious screenshots to annoy my PC elitist friends. The physics engine is great as well with: realistic rock slides and water trickles to name but a few. As well as this, the location designs are impossibly beautiful.
The gameplay is a little stale over the previous instalments but has been refreshed in a way that climbing is much more natural and accurate and the gunplay has been polished to near on perfection, in addition to the tried and tested methods use in previous games, the action is fun and fierce and if you think it isn't, stop playing on easy you little b****
All in all, an emotional and seriously impressive send off to the series, from a studio who's quality control is immaculate in a world of buggy post-release messes, Uncharted 4 sets a bench mark for industry standards.

This is the sort of game I would have expected had Sony demanded another UC game that ND didn't want to do and they handed the reigns to a different studio. One unanimous praise I'm hearing seems to be the graphics but I'm not even convinced the graphics have improved a ton since Uncharted 2. Things are sharper and more detailed in the town settings, and some of the skyline/mountainous backdrops are superior to the previous games, but those scenes are not the entire game. There's a lot in between that is quite bland. Almost as if they spent too much time on certain sections and not enough on others. I would have much rather they went for 60fps and dropped the visual fidelity. But alas, ND has clearly chosen graphics over gameplay here, because if ND played this game along side any of the previous 3 they must have realized it was less fun moment-to-moment and kept tweaking until it was. I've played the game twice now and it was better the second time around because I had a better understanding of the stealth and shooting mechanics throughout the entire experience, but the bland story, intermittent shooting and 30fps graphics all take their toll. I feel really bad that this team put so much effort into a game which ends up not as fun as it ought to be. Expand

Oh, Naughty Dog. When are you gonna mess up? I'm playing this game, scaling a clocktower while staring over a city in Madagascar. Nothing crazy is happening. I'm not being shot at; I'm not in any particular danger (okay, I'm dangling perilously at the top of a huge-ass clocktower), but I'm having fun. In fact, I'm having an absolute blast.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is not a disappointment by any means, I'll clear that up. In fact, it exceeds expectations. I'll start off with a spoiler-free set-up about the game's main story. Nathan Drake is retired from illegal treasure hunting. He lives with his beautiful wife, Elena, and leads a relatively normal life. That all ends once his brother, Sam Drake, who Nathan thought was dead for 15 years, shows up. Basically Sam is in trouble and needs Nathan's help. I won't tell you why. Nathan reluctantly agrees. I won't tell you why. That's how it all starts. The story starts simple but once it starts, it starts. This was definitely my favorite story of the Uncharted series. It's emotional and I really got sucked in. It was just like The Last of Us where I was sucking in every little detail. The end is great. It didn't have my jaw dropping like The Last of Us, but I did love it. The characters are incredible, and the without the amazing characterization the whole story would've crumbled. I loved Nolan North as Nathan Drake, and Troy Baker's Sam Drake is one of my favorite additions in gaming. Both of their performances are witty and powerful and I can't think of any other people who'd be any better. All other performances are great too. Elena and Sully are back, which is great, but I really liked the villains, Nadine and Rafe. I enjoyed Nadine's badassery a little bit more than Rafe's whineyness at times, but he is definitely not the stereotype I'm used to seeing. Both of their motivations make sense. It's just that I just wish I had seen more of these villains. The thing is, the villains aren't a key to the actual storyline of this game, they are more of a conflict; the occasional bullet barrier between Nathan and his next checkpoint. I'm fine with this because the main story is so brilliant, but I wanted more from the villains sometimes. I wanted more of the villains, especially Nadine.

The relationships between characters are incredible, and most importantly, believable. While you may never encounter marriage issues dealing with treasure hunting, the main themes behind each of them is where I could relate. I loved every onscreen interaction between Nathan and Elena. They are officially my favorite gaming couple, and that's because they are the most believable. Emily Rose's performance helped a lot, but I can see how much the Naughty Dog writing staff cares about these characters that they have spent more that a decade with (if you count how much Drake's Fortune was in production). I wish that Sully was in a bit more of the game, but it would have been forced and unnecessary. What he has right now makes sense. Sam is still just a great and complex character, and his relationship with Nathan really pulled my heartstrings. The flashbacks to when they were kids may slow down the action front, but it helps establish an important connection between two characters in the story. Naughty Dog has become so smart with cinematic storytelling through the years, and the way character relationships are expressed piles onto the evidence as to why.

When it comes to gameplay, the series has been vastly improved. Previous Uncharted shootouts were sometimes a hassle and I didn't always look forward to the long fights that I knew were coming. Not anymore. Uncharted 4's combat is addictive. If you click on my statistics, it may look like I'm one of the worst players of all time. The amount of restarted checkpoints I have is insane. That's really only because I restart encounters just to replay an amazing combat sequence. Melee is great, and the weapons have power. There's just so much more variety to each encounter now, and I noticed this when I saw all of my combat routes. Other Uncharted games had more enclosed combat encounters. Uncharted 4's combat encounters offer much more ways to take down your foes. My favorite is going stealthy. I can see the influences that Naughty Dog took from The Last of Us. I've taken out whole units without being noticed multiple times. I've also destroyed them by going guns blazing when I restart the same encounter, showing just how many options there are. People are also going to love the rope. There's going to be a lot of swinging in the game, and it's pretty damn fun. I have one complaint when it comes to combat and it's that there isn't enough. I wanted more of that amazing gameplay, and I got more platforming than combat. The platforming is terrific, though, so my complaints are trivial.

Never have I seen such mind blowing graphics in a game, perfect animation and cutscenes which do not disengage from gameplay. This is not just a game, its a work of pure art. The amount of detail put into this, from the micro to the macro is astounding. If you're playing this, just slow down and soak it all in. It's a beautiful journey. I would have taken my merry sweet time to explore every inch and nook in the world, but a certain white haired monster hunter is calling for my blood (& wine) :) Definitely worth playing it multiple times over. First off, it's sad to see so many negative user reviews on here, calculating a 7.8 score, and one that people will look at thinking people hate it worse than Uncharted 1-3 (which have higher scores). Of course, this is obviously down to a mixture of sheer jealously from Xbox fanboys as well the usual trolls who don't know what a good game is/are just being stupid. Of course, this is obviously down to a mixture of sheer jealously from Xbox fanboys as well the usual trolls who don't know what a good game is/are just being stupid. But onto my review...
Uncharted is definitely my favourite gaming series and I can honestly say that Uncharted 4 does a great job in being another stellar installment of the franchise, whilst ending the story of Nathan Drake. Whilst I do prefer Uncharted 2 by a slight margin overall, mainly due to its pacing and plot, Uncharted 4 does come a fair second in terms of the big step-up from the slight disappointment that was Uncharted 3. The story, as ever, is still very engaging and all the characters, both old and new, are fun to watch and practically all fleshed out to a satisfactory degree. The levels are longer and more expansive, and whilst definitely not open-world, they're still far from being linear and a good choice to make for this current gaming generation. My only gripe would be that looking back they could almost be too long, especially when compared to those in the previous games, adding to the game's run time of what took me 17 hours. But as it's Uncharted, the game as a whole does a good job of making you forget about its length (and anyone who grows bored of it early on isn't clearly suited to what the series offers). Gameplay-wise, it's improved by quite a wide margain from 3 as you'd expect, with more impressive-climbing sections, as well as the addition of Nate's grappling hook which certainly makes things more exciting, especially when used in combat. When you do engage in fighting off enemies, gunplay noticeably packs a bit more punch than usual and it's nice to see the little things added into the game like the addition of crosshairs turning red so you know the enemy in cover you've just shot is definitely dead. Stealth has been amplified too so it's turned into more of a basic version of MGSV mixed with Assassin's Creed, meaning enemies have an "aware bar" above their heads, for example. And thankfully you can now take out entire areas of enemies stealthily, which is something that was never possible in previous ND games. In terms of the graphics and visuals, Uncharted 4 stands heads and tails above anything else, with character models looking and reacting very realistically, and at times you can't help but stop to gaze at the gorgeous scenery in the game, before taking a range of in-game snapshots to save. It's definitely the most beautiful game I've played, and without spoiling anything, you'll be treated to a good variety of different environments on Nate's globe-trotting adventure. Audio-wise, this was my only real gripe with the game. It was made by a different composer other than Greg Edmonson, and you can tell if you've played the others. There are less of the pulse-pounding and thrilling soundtracks from 2 and 3, however this was probably intentional as 4 is the last chapter in the series and they were aiming for a more melancholy feel. That, and the fact the full rendition of Nate's Theme is non-existing (for the same reason I'm sure). Nevertheless, where the music picks up in some of the action sequences, it does a very good job of it.
Overall, I feel Uncharted 4 is the perfect end to Nate's story and another brilliant chapter in the Uncharted franchise. Whilst I think it falls short of Uncharted 2 in one or two aspects, everything else has been improved to a satisfactory degree and fans of the series will not be disappointed.

In a sentence, 'A Thief's End' is Uncharted's gameplay formula perfected, a showcase for Naughty Dog's story telling prowess and peerless polish and ultimately a worthy end to Nathan Drake's tale.

While this is still very much classic Uncharted, tonally the game is a bit different which you can notice right from the get go when you are greeted by an ominous silence in the start screen instead of the familiar theme music. I was obviously disappointed to hear Greg Edmonson won't be returning. But Henry Jackman's score appropriately captured the tone of the franchise and it felt like Ed never left.

The set pieces in Uncharted has always been a highlight. This time it's no different. I had goosebumps the moment the prison break ends and the opening credits roll with the new theme in the background. It's the kind of feeling you get when you're watching your favorite blockbuster movie you've been waiting all summer for and it only gets better from there!

What separates A Thief's End from the previous installments most is the deeply personal story this time around that adds extra layers to the characters we've come to love and we are introduced to notably Nate's brother Samuel Drake who is a game changer and gives proper meaning for their motivations.

PC fanboys can rave on about graphics, but as a fair minded gamer who plays both on console and PC, this is the most graphically detailed game I've ever played. I would go on to call other console devs as lazy considering what Naughty Dog has achieved. The attention to detail is unprecedented. Nate's house easily wins the contest for best interior decoration in a video game!

Photo mode is a feature that's becoming common in games nowadays. I spent a ludicrous amount of time with the game's photo mode. It's like a treasure cave for a photographer. The game also introduces a limited sandbox feel to some levels which enables you to tackle the objective in slightly different ways. It even adds driving section that are fun with pretty realistic physics. The enemy encounters can be completed fully by stealth, classic gunplay or even by avoiding all enemies. Both of these are welcome additions that does keep the gameplay fresh.

The AI has been fantastic in the previous games and they still are provoking you to rethink strategies mid fight and keep moving to succeed. Even on crushing difficulty, I never felt cheated. The final boss fight was appropriate however a little frustrating. The platforming sections felt a tad exhausting at times. These are the few complaints I have the about the game. Regardless, the game does so many things right that can easily overpower these minor nuisances.

The multiplayer returns from the previous games and keeps the action going after you've already completed the single player probably more than once. It is nothing revolutionary and mostly by the numbers, but it still manages to add value to the whole package and worth checking out.

Without giving anything away, the game ends like a swansong. Just when you thought this game couldn't be more amazing, it pulls one more trick out of its box. This game captures the word 'immersive' to perfection. It pulls you into its world, makes you care about the characters and make you feel like you are a part of the adventure and never lets you go until the end credits roll.

I remember I chose a PS3 over an Xbox 360 for its exclusives especially the Uncharted series. This generation it was no different. If you are only going to play one game on your PS4, let this be that game, you owe it to yourselves!

Great graphics and amazing skin textures and facial expressions, and generally immaculate attention to detail in and out of cutscenes, so much so that you almost don't notice their seamless transitions, also thanks to the absence of any loading screens. Gameplay however, suffered from uninteresting and really tedious platforming that sees Nathan making it onto the next path by the skin of his teeth dozens of times, to the point where it gets repetitive and disappointingly predictable. It's fun and looks great, above all when you take a moment to absorb it all with the other characters from a panoramic cliffpoint or tall building, or even when you're jumping from collapsing bridges and four hundred year old towers, but after a while it loses it's lustre and it just becomes a rinse and repeat cycle. Shootouts and encounters are still heaps fun and you can approach it stealthly or guns blazing (although it's not recommended), and the puzzles are varied and challenging enough to be entertaining when they come around. The thing that yet again keeps it from being a masterpiece is its linearity in the gameplay and platforming. Getting from A to B always feels extremely on rails and set up, above all through its action sequences. Characters are well acted however, which keeps the mediocre plot above the water for most of the game, although it slightly loses itself in the third act, occasionally coming through a bit forced. Nevertheless the game is a great finale to the series that successfully completes its story arc. Would recommend the game if you're looking to push your ps4, honestly not going to find a better looking game at the store for now, but in terms of gameplay and platforming you might be disappointed. Would give it a 7.7-7.8 so rounding it to 8. Expand

The development and depth of the characters involved is more immersive and compelling then the entirety of the last 3 games put together. At its heart is a very polished and accomplished control system that succesfully implements some new gameplay elements (while relying quite heavily on some old concepts, gotta love those crates!) and gives you as a player a meaty selection of options on how to progress through each set piece.

The writing is fantastic, filled with well timed comedy beats and palatable sombre moments that make up for their lack of originality with an enormous amount of talent and polish. Voice acting and interaction is absolutely stellar and further paves the way for gaming to be considered a serious and influential art style on the global stage - gaming Oscars anyone?

So the single player...fantastic with maybe a few gripes.

The multiplayer? Utter. Tripe. Those controls that sit perfectly within the single player pacing feel airy and disconnected in the frenetic action of competative multiplayer. Sticking to walls and map objects every 30 seconds is incredibly frustrating. Weapon/damage imbalance is also homicidally anger inducing - many times have I spent an assault rifles entire ammunition into someone only to have them down me with a quick burst from a side arm. I also found the loadout and customisation options quite forced and poorly implemented from a UI point of view.

In its current state the multiplayer suffers from a wealth of problems that most games do at launch. Possibly the most frustration for me came from issues regarding lag and timing. These are all things that will hopefully be ironed out as the game settles and the bugs are identified.

Overall, a definite must own for fans of 3rd person adventure games with a seriously satisfying single player and a multiplayer that currently frustrates but could have potential in future.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

The story is on par with one of the mediocre Indiana Jones films, which this franchise is heavily influenced by. The main theme of the story freely steals from one of the Indiana Jones films, so if you watched those, about half way through the game it's easy to predict where the story is going.
I found the gameplay to be simply not fun. I am not a completionist, so while I can understand the treasure finding to be interesting for others, it did nothing for me. The rest of the game can be broadly divided into climbing/parkour sequences and gun play. The climbing is sort of neat from a visual standpoint, since you do get to watch Nathan do some cool stunts in stunningly rendered settings, but the actual gameplay of it is extremely bland. The problem is that it's pretty hard to actually die during the climbing sequences, and even during the challenging parts, the game doesn't really punish you for trial and error, so you can pretty much get past every sequence by jamming on the "X" button while pointing the joystick in the direction where you want to jump/climb.
The gunplay is just bad. It's similar to the gunplay in Grand Theft Auto, which is to say there isn't much depth to it. Frustratingly, the "O" button maps to two different but critical actions (taking cover and rolling) and a lot of deaths are annoyingly caused by Nathan taking cover when you actually want him to roll/evade, or vice versa. I didn't find the game to be challenging, just annoying because most of the deaths are caused by crappy controls or arbitrary gameplay rules, like being forced to shoot helmets off heavily armored enemies, because even a grenade going off at their feet won't kill them. But a bullet to the head will knock off their helmet every time, leaving them exposed. Someone let the U.S. military know that they just need to solve this helmet defect and they'll have unstoppable super soldiers running around the battlefield. Eventually, the game just cheeses you by lazily ramping up the difficulty by swarming you with more enemies. BTW, Nathan Drake, Treasure Hunter? Also: Mass Murderer.
The final boss battle is literally a muscle memory test involving you pressing Triangle or Circle depending on the visual queues provided. Which feels wholly out of place because it's literally the only time in the game involving that kind of battle/gameplay.
The voice acting is pretty good by video game standards. The dialogue ranges from passable to bad. There isn't many memorable bits, if any. The game is impressive in that the dialogue does respond to weird stuff you do in the game, similar to what was done in Bastion, so that does cause some amusing dialogue.

Contrary to every overly defensive review on Metacritic, I'm not an Xbox fanboy. I think Bloodborne is the best game this console generation, so there's that. I just don't think this game is very good. I won't knock you if you like this game, I'm just throwing this review out there to serve as a warning that the praise for this game isn't universal.

It’s a good game, but not a great game. This game puts quality over quantity and feels like a chore to get through due to its repetitive gameplay.

If you’ve played through other titles in the Uncharted series, you’ll quickly recognize that this game contains more of the same old. The climbing sections do have amazing graphics, but the gameplay just consists of holding the analog stick and pressing the “X” button. All of the climbing is really “on-the-rails”, so to speak. Think Assassin’s Creed, but without free-roaming capabilities.

The combat sections are actually decently done. But, this game is a bit different from its predecessors. Namely, combat sections are typically on a large stage, with perhaps 10-20 enemies at once. You won’t get a climbing section, then a group of two enemies, then another climbing section, if you see what I mean. Consequently, the number of combat sections in this game is extremely low. But, it’s not a bad thing, they’re well-designed such that you can choose how you want to deal with these enemies in many cases, such as shooting your way through or using stealth. Still, such kinds of combat sections are few and far between. In fact, after finishing the game you can choose to replay certain combat sections using a single menu, that’s how few combat sections there actually are. Can you imagine taking all of a game’s combat sections, and being able to list them all into a single menu? That’s barely anything.

Some of the puzzles were fun to get through, but if you’re looking for a game exclusively for its puzzle, I recommend checking out the Professor Layton series instead. If you’ve ever taken a postsecondary course in mathematics, such as in the field of combinatorics, these puzzles feel like playing with building blocks. But, I can respect that they need to cater the game to a wide audience and that not everybody may enjoy solving puzzles as much as I may.

Speaking if its puzzles, this game really enjoys using wooden crates for its puzzles. Perhaps five or six times during the story, you’ll need to find a crate to jump onto an object you can grab. It becomes stale (and embarrassing) very quickly.

Unfortunately, there’s not much else to the game. This game’s physics and level design makes it feel like a spiritual successor to The Last of Us. You should be able to easily tell that the developers were the same.

Don’t get me wrong, if you enjoy Telltale games and series that have a significant quantity of cinematics, such as Yakuza or Metal Gear Solid, you’ll probably like this game for its cinematic storytelling. This game almost feels like a movie, and really does rival with the aforementioned series with its exceptional storytelling capabilities.

If you enjoy watching a half an hour of cutscenes between this game’s “levels”, you’ll probably enjoy it a lot. But, I attest that this significantly diminishes this title’s replayability. I mean, many QTE (quick time event) sequences found in this game are amazing and reach an unprecedented level of technical achievement. Sound and voice acting are definitely on par. But, such events are really only for one-time and you wouldn’t find yourself replaying them due to them simply consisting of a button mash. Thankfully, the game has multiplayer, which is pretty fun for a while.

While I while continually protest that the game is a technical and even an artistic achievement, it doesn’t feel like a fun game to play through. When everything is so standardized, it almost feels like the entire game is, as I mentioned earlier, “on-the-rails”.

Even though the previous titles have many shortcomings with gameplay, I honestly found the original and second entry in this series to be much more fun. I’m not spoiling anything, but like many games nowadays, there aren’t really any bosses. Don’t get me wrong, the fighting scenes in the introduction are fun, but it’s really just bashing a single button and watching your characters miraculously perform some unimaginable punches and kicks from just mashing that one button.

Even with all of the positive points previously mentioned, I still found this game to be a grind. I wanted the climbing sections to be over during certain areas since all I was doing was tapping “X”.

Getting to drive a jeep in the game was fun at first, but once you realize that the exploration available in such levels were very limited, you become disappointed. There are many levels, but the repetitive gameplay really takes a toll on you quickly.

I could really only play this title for a couple of hours at a time. In fact, I often found myself slogging through the gameplay just to see how the story would unfold. But if you like cinematics and a strong narrative (when employed with just the right pinch of suspense of disbelief), you’ll find this game fun for a few hours. Although it has many lengthy levels, its linearity makes it very quick and easy to beat.

I think the fact that Neil druckman and co took over from amy(the writer of the other uncharted games) was the best thing that could happen to uncharted.
Its much more grounded and character driven.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here are some thoughts from a screenwriter's perspective.

+ amazing, at times unbelievable, visuals and sets. Well done, Naughty Dog!

    - Way too much climbing. It's become a climbing simulator, guys! Reaching even the highest peaks with the greatest vistas ends up feeling mundane, as if running an errand. Climbing should have been placed more carefully. You can hardly just WALK in this game, without some obstacle in your way every five steps.

    - An unnecessarily happy ending. They set this up to be a more mature, darker Uncharted, and as such Sam was a tragic character, who resists growth. Therefore, I was totally prepared to see him die because of his obsession. Nope. Full-on happy ending that actually weakens our hero Nathan.

    - Same goes with Elena. I could not feel her strong bond with Nathan. Her forgiveness of Nathan's enourmous deceit may seem human, but I wanted more ambiguity, like, "let's see, if you and I cn still be together after this...". Instead, she just goes along with her husband. I wished that Elena had was pregnant, but didn't get a chance to tell Nathan about it, because he rushed off with Sam. That way, we (and Nathan too) would have really cared for Elena's well-being - it would have created a stronger core conflict.

    - There are ZERO consequences for our hero(s). None. Sure, lots of bad things happen, but nothing is ever really at stake. Nothing ever gets lost. We can see how super-human our hero(s) are, so why should we ever care?

    - Weird similarities to The Last Of Us (a game I loved and am deeply impressed by). From those white circles that appear on top of objects, to the guitar-heavy, monotone soundtrack, to that tacked-on Epilogue with their daughter, this Uncharted felt more like a TLOU hybrid, but without the great writing, character depth and REAL stealth (I was fully expecting a zombie to jump through the window and eat her).

    - Too much shooting in the last third. It turns into a massacre and our hero(s) humanity and relateability suffers from it.

    - That final QTE boss fight! Easily the worst boss in any Uncharted game. I didn't even get to know Rafe. I didn't hate him enough, to want him to die. Uncharted seriously has a villain and showdown problem.

    - Basically, Goonies (one of my childhood faves) for grown-ups with less charme and less fun booby traps. The finale is almost identical, but I expected more of this AAA game and these writers.

    - All fantasy is gone! It's almost as if the last Uncharteds with their monsters and demons happened in a parallel universe. In an Uncharted game, you have to have some supernatural element. I was fully looking forward to some Voodoo magic that would bring als those beautiful skeletons back to life to defend their treasure, but... nada. A huge missed opportunity and a brand-breaking shift in tone, that makes Nathan's world seem boringly real - and created a stark disparity to all his superhero style jumping, climbing, swinging and surviving. Uncharted is supposed to be over-the-top, Indiana Jones-style action and FUN. The moment you try to turn it into a mature, layered thing, it falls apart.

Disappointing and predictable as usual just when you jump, climb and have more near fatal falls than a drunk hiker, you go on solves the puzzles and bang a wall falls and the enemy just happen to rock up all the time. They absorb bullets like COD and just become repetitive and dull, The fight scenes are sluggish and too long. Better than Drakes fortune not as good as uncharted 2.

Graphically, it is probably the most impressive game I have played, with incredibly detailed and realistic character models and animations, lavishly designed and visually spectacular environments, and impressive graphical effects. The sound design is equally impressive, with a suitably bombastic movie style soundtrack, excellent sound effects and mixing, and first class voice acting across the board. In terms of presentation, Uncharted 4 is an extraordinary achievement.

The writing, by The Last of Us author Neil Druckmann, is on point, keeping the returning characters true to their nature, but adding a layer of nuance and emotional complexity that has not existed before. Uncharted has always been a fairly light hearted franchise, modelling itself on Indiana Jones by keeping the pace fast and mood upbeat; with Druckmann at the helm, Uncharted 4 slows the pace down and introduces some more grounded themes and adds complexity to the characters relationships, giving the story a more serious and more weighty feel. This will appeal to people like me who always felt that Uncharted was a bit 'lightweight', but may not please those who enjoyed the flippant tone of the earlier games.

In terms of gameplay, Uncharted 4 remains consistent with its predecessors, with cover based shooting and climbing mechanics being the mainstays. The gunplay is functional, but not particularly exciting or engaging, and the climbing is on the basic side, with most of the challenge coming from figuring out where you are supposed to go through trial and error, rather than through execution based challenge. Some light stealth mechanics have been added this time around allowing you to approach combat encounters either directly or in stealth, meaning that killing foes now optional in many cases. The stealth gameplay is not particularly sophisticated, but it does make a nice change of pace and gives you more options in how you approach the game. Overall, the gameplay is solid and functional, but nothing special.

In summation, Uncharted 4 is a spectacular, engaging, and thoroughly enjoyable experience that is absolutely worth playing. It's not the most complex game, and it may be lacking in replayability if you aren't into the multiplayer, but the sheer quality of the 16 to 18 hour campaign is in my view, worth the price of admission.

Note: I did not play the multiplayer, so my review is based on the single player campaign only.

Now it's really hard to say when this whole thing went to hell. At some point the stealth/action segments became boring and repetitive especially since the enemy AI is unbelievably dumb. The whole jumping/grappling mechanic was pretty much useless from the start and becomes very stale soon and rather annoying towards the end. figuring out your way towards the next objective or the puzzles, which are easy for the most part are a total waste of time. why would companies fill their AAA games with stuff that's simply not fun to do?
As the game progressed the story and dialogue deteriorated as well giving us the shallow, insipid equivalent of a run-of-the-mill action blockbuster. By chapter 17 (there's 22)I just wanted to finish this damn game and be done with it. There are some fun elements to this one, but they're few and far between.
I could think of dozens of games that came out since 2011 that are far superior to this one so I'm baffled at the praise. One must have really low standards to love this.

I generally have a rule that I don't pay more than a dollar per hour of play that I'll get out of a game, but here I happily make an exception. It's worth every penny.

Do your homework first. If you don't enjoy climbing, puzzles, or longer cinematics with A-grade acting and motion-capture, then go play DOOM and don't waste everyone else's time with a 0 rating review. Climbing and shooting mechanics have greatly improved but I did come across some frustrating issues such as that you cannot climb up a ledge unless you re-position the camera behind Nate.

The graphics are very good; frame rate stable; voice acting, pacing and direction perfect (as expected from Naughty dogs). Thing with Naughty dogs is that they do such a superb work that everytime you expect so much more from them. One thing that made me really disappointed was the predictability of action and adventure sequences; This game is easily 50% adventure and 50% action and the timing of these sequences (action and adventure) eventually becomes predictable. I mean you get an area to defeat your enemies and then you get an equally lengthy area to roam around and cherish the scenery, solve puzzles, climb ledges etc. The combination of these sequences repeats in a cycle and it just becomes predictable after a while. I had this same and only complaint against the last of us and I was hoping that they might shuffle things up a bit in UC4.

The grim tone of the game is not justified either in my opinion. Would have been awesome to see Nate make a choice between Sam and Sully/Elena in a life and death situation to justify the grim tone of the game.

No encounters with wild animals yet again.
The main villain is too much of a baby in my opinion. I don't think his hate for the drakes is justified.

Alright enough bit*ching, UC is one my favorite franchises and Naughty dogs is one of the best studios out there so even with all the issues you may find in this game, its still a kickass game man. I mean did you guys see the chase sequences, the explosions and all the action, the combination of melee and the swing mechanic, slide and stealth mechanics and the semi semi open world......ho ho holy **** this games awesome. All of it fits in so well and organically. I replayed TLOU about 11 times. I think I will replay this one atleast 4 or 5 times. Its a journey man and very few games are successfully able to pull something off like this. So i say **** them haters in the red category because their heads are far up their asses for sure.

Another class game from Naughty Dog. They never fail to impress and do the Uncharted series justice by finishing it off with what will most definitely be a GOTY contender. Refined combat controls and gun mechanics combined with the breathtaking visuals make this the most fun I've ever ever had with an Uncharted game. This is easily the best game in the series IMO.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For Nathan Drake's final outing, this was a huge one. The story takes some amazing twists and even ends in the same way as the Goonies! Gameplay-wise the shooting feels like it took a little bit from every Uncharted game and sprinkled it all in there. Gone is the shaky aiming, but every gun felt like Drake has the strength of a 12 year old firing a .45-caliber. The multiplayer is where it really shines. Every single item in the game is unlockable by simply playing. Though if you're impatient you can just spent actual money to unlock things, but with enough patience you can save the $50 bucks you'll inevitably spend on vanity gear. Again, when I say everything, I mean everything! Characters, outfits, accessories, taunts, all of it is unlockable with the "relic" currency you get for simply playing the game. One thing that's missing, though I hope they'll add was the co-op arena mode from Uncharted 3. I'd highly recommend this with the season pass as well because there is a story expansion coming as well as multiplayer expansions. Expand

Exceptional graphics, gripping storyline and a perfect ending. This is one of the games that I don't want to end. Cannot wait for the next Naughty Dog's masterpiece.

If there was a template of what makes a perfect game, then this is it. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has the epic action scenes we have come to love, brilliant storytelling, lovable characters, great writing and above all else, it is one of the best games I have ever played.

Without spoiling the story and just talking about gameplay, the areas and locations feel more open, almost like a playground to use stealth or to go in guns-blazing; whichever option you choose, it feels 'right', like the game has meant for your exact scenario to pan out exactly how it has - even if you do choose stealth and then get caught, there is an abundance of climable surfaces, bushes to hide in and some conviniantly placed cover to soak the bullets while you're at it. Stealth certainly is more of an option than it was in the other entries, I found myself trying to use stealth for most enemies I encountered, but when I was spotted the gunplay also holds up very well. It's this freedom and choice to look at a scenario and think 'should I climb up there, hide in those bushes or swing from that rope to land on him?' that make this game stand out from the previous three.

The fourth installment genuinely feels like Uncharted 4, not a half-baked Uncharted 3.5, it adds the ability to mark enemies, slide down rocky surfaces, hide in bushes, swing from ropes, drive cars and boats in highspeed chases (that look so good you'll think they're cutscenes) and this is all added to the absolutely brilliant template which was Uncharted 3 - oh, and it also has a good multiplayer to add to the already lengthy story.

The multiplayer is fast paced and unrealistic fun. There are three game modes overall and they all feel unique. I wouldn't personally say this is the specific selling point of the game, however it does give you a reason to keep returning to Uncharted 4, once you have finished the main game. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is a game I'll never forget, in one of Playstation's and potentially gaming's most iconic tales.

Initial notice - I usually give 10s to games that are very unique and are usually "just one in a decade". However, this game is a strong 9/10 that I increased to 10/10 for two reasons:

    1. During my playthrough I have encountered only one minor glitch which was fixed by reloading save. That is unique to current generation. 2. I'm a programmer and it's hard not to notice that this game

    1. During my playthrough I have encountered only one minor glitch which was fixed by reloading save. That is unique to current generation.
    2. I'm a programmer and it's hard not to notice that this game is a technical masterpiece. It has easily the best visuals I have ever seen on any platform. It's amazing considering PS4's limitations.

    Let's move to proper review.

This game is a wonderful and worthy ending to Uncharted series. I was really afraid of bad story or ending that would damage earlier game's good reputation. The introduction of Nate's brother was especially risky because we have never heard about him in earlier games but surprisingly it has worked.

Gameplay is really fun. If you played earlier Uncharted games you will grasp controls instantly because this game is evolution of formula (instead of revolution). There are a few fun additions to mechanics like rope with hook and piton. There's much less shooting in favor of exploring. What's new is that you can now sneak past enemies in bushes/buildings behind walls and take them out silently.

Graphics are amazing. I believe this is the best looking game across all platforms right now. Environments are diversified and stunning to look at. The world feels a tad more open although it's really not.

Sounds and soundtrack are really good. All actors did a great job while programmers and animators made sure that lipsync and facial expressions are spot on.

This game took me 18 hours to finish in semi-leisure mode. It's one of those games I wanted to play again just after I finished it (unfortunately I lent it my friends, so I'll have to wait. :)).

It's nothing new, but what the game promised to deliver it delivered. What was delivered was of top quality. This is how you make Indiana Jones like action game.

Admittedly, I am a late participant in the uncharted series. I played the collection a few months before the release so I didn't have much nostalgia as many other fans would have.

From a Naughty Dog standpoint, I preferred The Last of Us but I find it hard to compare the two.

An important note: I had a really cool revelation when playing that I was acknowledging an NPS as an actual person. Without giving anything away, there is a character that is rather pissed at Drake. I found myself avoiding hunting for the treasure collectibles to ease his/her demeanor.

I'm excited to see what is next for Naughty Dog. I likely would've given this game a 10 if i had the nostalgia factor.

Uncharted has always been a cut from a different cloth that the adventure genre throws to us. Uncharted 1 being great, 2 being a "best game of all time" contender, 3 being fantastic, and finally 4, A shining beacon in the darkness of the un-anticipated gaming year of 2016. I won't spoil the story at all, but the game is like a gripping movie; you cannot walk away from it. The story, and its writing and voice acting is pristine. Game play is seamless, and controls smoother than anything yet. The new mechanics are polished, and feel like they've been there since the first installment. And the graphics are just.. honestly unreal, so much so i shed a tear myself in a specific area. These are the best graphics on console of all time. Nothing can compare. If you have a PS4, you will have the time of your life with UC4.

This will be in my top 3 best video-games of all time for sure.
And it will be for you, too.

Uncharted 4 is a landmark title that anyone remotely interested in interactive storytelling should invest in. Naughty Dog has once again raised the bar across the industry. Stating that the forthcoming game will be the last rendezvous with a popular, charismatic hero is a rare phenomenon. I congratulate Naughty Dog on their courage and in spite of myself keep my fingers crossed for them to stick to their decision. The farewell party they threw for Nate is simply spectacular. This is how I want to remember him, not as an old man who rubbed his joints with pain cream and then found a UFO. Uncharted 4 is a brilliant game and a breathtaking demonstration of what PS4 is capable of. [07/2016, p.56]
