    Story - 10/10
    Characters - 10/10
Game play and combat - 9.5/10

I would give 10/10 but in all fairness there is no game which is perfect. My score would be closer to 9.5 to 9.8

This is how game should be. Choosing, 18+, open world, music, visual. This game has only two minuses - system of fight, dying from falling.

I don't like open world games. This game was (I think) one of the first ones where I found open world is really enjoyable for me . I really didn't care for anything besides the story, and suddenly found myself collecting all the armours and weapons for my collection and spending more then 80 hours in the game. One of the best in the genre.

Great story and a beautiful open world with many interesting things to do. The combat is the one downfall for this game

exactly the rating it deserves. Not overrated or underrated. People who gave it even below a 7 does not understand anything about games, story, and character development. Some don't care for the combat, but it was polished af and especially satisfying on harder difficulty. Which I suggest those who hate the combat go play it on a harder setting.

I do not rule out the presence of bugs, some rare drop in fps or texture, as well as dropping objects and a difficult horse to control in tight places or in the presence of obstacles but they do not compromise the gameplay. The story, indeed, the stories, are well detailed and intersected with each other and your choices have multiple effects on all people and the events connected to them. Not recommended for those who want a game of action only and few interactions with characters.

The story is great, though some of the final battles don't meet expectations. I'm especially impressed with the side quests as they often have unique and intriguing tales of their own; I finished all the non-DLC ones. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    The good:
Story, world, atmospere... Developers really build big, beatifull, believable, living world. The Novigrad is biggest RPG city I have even seen. NPC have lots of different scripts (behaviours and dialogues). Wnen you are riding through the countriside, it feels really real and not static as other games. The story telling is great. The quests are long, interesting, full of twists. Quests are full of cutscenes and scripts, so playing them feels little like the Mass Effect and you are drag into the story. So if you are like me and you like to play the games for story, you will love this game. It will hook you and will have problems to shut it down.

    The bad:
Basically gamedesign. For some reason, the developers choose some really weird decisions about controls, menus and gamedesign. The game is contra-intuitive and many basic tasks has to be done in unnecessary complicated ways. It is not making the game harder, but slower. Some common tasks becames chores and you will hate them. Some examples: when you ancounter pile of bags and boxes you have to loot them individually (15 of them). Each containing one alchemy ingredient. Why it can not be grouped? When you encounter book, you can not read it immediatelly. You need to take it and then go look for it in your full inventory. Why? When you purchase new equipment, you can not choose buy&equip to be able immediatelly sell the old stuff. You have to end the dialogue, go into inventory, change your stuff, and start new dialogue and choose you want to sell again. Why? The crafting is actually multilevel process. You need to craft even your crafting components. So it is not obvious if you have enough raw materials. And building new armor becomes long process of searchign and bulding four another components. Why? When new character description is added to you glossary, it is marked by yellow star. But this dissapears immediatelly once you select it. So if it is the item you need to scroll too, these markers dissapers as soon as it appears on your screen. Making them useless and you can easily miss updated descriptions this way.

Basically none of these compains are real problem individually. But there is some many of these small unpolished details, that I fell like Im spending half of my gametime in menus managing the game instead of playing it. And we know from other games, it can be done in much easier and intuitive ways. So if you are looking for smooth gameplay and interesting action and you dont care about the story, you may and up really dissapointed.
Personnaly Im somewhere in the middle. Im really hooked to the story. But most of the Im crunching my teeth and cursing the game for these unnecessary mistakes.

There is so much to love about this game but it's not perfect.
The Good: The graphics are astounding... it's like watching a movie. The voice overs and sound are excellent. The story is very immersive and interesting.
The Bad: Not the best port over from console to PC. They got really lazy in not building a complete key remapping system... it's like they figured everyone used W,S,A,D.

I'm half tempted to write a separate program to give people this option. The movement seems weird... it's fine for a console but PC users like precise movement. The combat systems needs work... it seems to have a slight delay.

All this is forgivable I guess. I picked up a copy on ebay for $36 so not a big investment. I find the game is easier and more fun if I use my xbox controller to play it. Looking forward to playing this over the next few months.

In typical RPGs, the general rule for side quests is to go to point A, kill everything/retrieve item, and then return. The Witcher makes every side quest feel unique with interesting characters and objectives, and it manages to keep them all interesting.

I only have a few gripes with this game; including the inability to wear helmets and the severe lack of armor variations. These of course are very minor complaints, and it wouldn't be normal for Geralt to wear helmets anyway. The combat can also get a bit repetitive, and it is generally a lot easier than the previous game in all regards. The music selection during combat is also very limited.

My main issue with the game, however, is the gear system. Gear which you get is automatically leveled to whatever level you are when you obtain it. Meaning that if you get the legendary grandmaster witcher armor (which takes upwards of 10 hours to collect a full set), it is going to be totally obsolete after five levels. You also can't upgrade it, making it worthless if you choose to get it early on. If you decide to get it near the end of the game, it's also useless because you've already finished most if not all of the missions.

Second the movements are quite unresponsive, especially in the water, but thankfully you don't have to stay in water if you choose not to. The horse movement is even worse, random and sudden stops, which is extremely annoying., similar to geralts stopping for a fight if you are constantly trying to run away from enemies. I'm not mentioning frame drops, and technical stuff, because it's been mentioned many times. So with all the criticisms over, I wont get too much why it is very good game, but I will let you know that even though its fictional, the reason why its good is because it;s believable, people are believable as wells as their stories, the world is believable as well. For most part of the game, Witcher 3 is amazing. Graphics and art direction are superb. Alongside Last of Us, Witcher 3 is probably the best game out there in terms of characters animation. In many games the characters rely heavily on the voice acting. In Witcher 3 most characters have unique gestures and body languages. For example Witcher 3, Triss and Yeneffer are completely different in every way, they are not just different in voice and appearance. You just get the feeling those people are really characters of a fantasy story, they are not just flat npcs of a RPG game.

Another hit are the light effects and dynamic weather. Stormy nights, amazing sunsets or just the regular midnight moon. Every day and night in this world is unique. This and the open world freedom (you can even sail a boat here) will guarantee some unforgettable moments. I decided to first travel to Novigrad (largest city on the game) by boat. The sight of the city at distance was really striking. When I finally got into the city docks and looked to the west, the sky was burning with the dying sun. Easily one of the most beautiful moments I experienced in games.

The world is very well designe, for the most part. Vellen is a very unique land. South is literally no man’s land, full of swamps, monster and hopeless people. As you move north, you will find cities and populated areas. Remote areas are lair of powerful monsters. Side quests are well made, and most of them are worth a try. Far from the pointless stuff we had in most of Dragon Age Inquisition side quests.

The worlds story as a whole is very well told, and the amount of important characters is huge. You will only will realize it after you check the “characters” entry in the main menu.

Gwent card game is pretty amazing and addictive.

    The soundtrack is epic.

Well, even amazing games have their problems, and Witcher 3 has some that affected my experience with the game.

The game is far from supper polished. For example, in PS4 version of GTA V the open world is flawless. Even a remote area of the game is well made. The limitations of distant objects in GTA V are discreet. In Witcher 3,in many occasions huge objects are invisible even at close distances. Distant views are also bad. While GTA V could give you superb panoramic views of the city landspace, in Witcher 3 distant views suffer from the ultra low level detail. Everything in the distance is covered by a very ugly fog. Some textures in the game are just no acceptable in a PS4 game (red bricks in baron’s castle, for example).

The talk about the game’s size is everywhere. Its true the game is huge, but its due to Skellige, a complex of islands where most part of the map is water where there is nothing to do. I have to admit I got the feeling this area was a little rushed. Side quests are not as great as others (you won’t get more than 10 quests worth your time here). Local people are a cheap mixture of vikings and celtics. Every island in the area looks identical. There is not enough content in there to justify the size. There are basically 3 kinds of monsters in the whole area (those sirens…).

Story pace is pretty erratic. The game sets Geralt’s main goal from the beginning (find and save Ciri). The problem is, after the first hours, the game just forget it, and the game’s rhythm gets better only the final act. The amount of side content is a problem, because some of them are really important for the main story, and are note exactly "side" quests, for example, one mission is about the assassination of a king. Of course its mission is not a simple side quest. Its no only important to the lore, but later you will find out that this side quest, and some others, are essential in order to get the best ending. The choices are also problematic. The difference between a very bad ending and the best one might be a couple of simple dialogue choices. Another question is about this king trying to catch a witch, who will be present in the main quest later in the game. So at the end of the day the game pace is a bit problematic.

Menu is a bit of a mess. Combat system is far from superb. Crafting is not exactly intuitive (I had more fun in this aspect with DA: I).

Despite those problems, Witcher 3 is a very good game. Unpolished graphics, poor paced story and not so good combat system prevented it from being perfect. CD Projekt Red deserves credits for making a superb RPG game without the financial muscles of bigger developers and for respecting the gamers. In a time where day one paid DLC's are the rule, Witcher 3 gives you a decent amount of free DLC's week after week. The content in physical copies of the game is also a hit. You get a very beautiful map, cd with the game soundtrack, manuals, stickers and compendium. A relief in the 2 pointless flyers era.

Witcher 3 is an instant classic of action RPG games

There's other activities besides the main quests and side quests such as Gwent, the fictional card game that plays like Magic: the gathering, and horse races.

The witcher contracts are easily the coolest part of the game IMO. They remind me of the TV show CSI, only.....if CSI was set in a fantasy version of the 1200's.

The combat is also fairly shallow when compared to games like Skyrim or WoW--you mostly button-mash to hack away at enemies and use magic ("Signs") to supplement the swordplay. You cannot use magic alone to fight monsters. The companion AI is kind of dumb like it is in many games, but thankfully there are few escort missions in the game.

Also you'll find your horse and occasionally your character getting "caught up" on obstacles which can be distracting.

The ugly: glitches up the ass!! Even after 3 or 4 patches there is still just about every type of glitch you can imagine in this game. The most noticeable and frequent glitch you'll notice is pop-in. It's forgivable, but it really is distracting and sort of breaks the otherwise fantastic illusion of a real breathing world the game creates.

Enjoyed the characters, some of the story and the music. I don't see how people like this dumbed down combat where everything is done for you. Just roll, dodge spam click...BO-RING. Impressive storyline and amazing characters. The visuals are impressive enough to make you mindlessly roam the world.
It is however a bit overhyped. As with any open world rpg it has the usual limitations with (side)quest patterns. The grind is very real.
I would not recommend it on the higher difficulty settings, the difficulty curve is ridiculous. Death March starts off with you dying

A very, very good RPG that for me places better than DA Inquisition but is not a Skyrim beater.

As usual there are a host of ludicrous reviews by people who are not gamers and are too stupid to understand a 0-10 scoring system; like do they realise a 0/10 would be a game that did not even load up? A particularly pathetic 'review' comes from hb1209, read if you want a laugh. Good -

Good - Beautiful and huge game world, unlike games like Red Dead or GTAV there is plenty to do in it as well. The story is excellent and even without playing previous Witcher games will keep you hooked. The voice acting is also superb compared to most other games and is up there in quality with the likes of Mass Effect series. Finally, finally you are now able to customize Geralt a bit. Gameplay is good enough to facilitate your journey through the game.

Bad - Levelled armor; in any game ever made, is just annoying, games should follow Skyrim and Souls and just let players wear anything, it just works better. Also, no RPG should have armor that is unobtainable; once again, much like FF games, the antagonists wear cooler armor than can ever be obtained by the player, a crazy design decision by the devs. The reason I lasted an hour on the Witcher 2 was because I couldn't customize the player character; now I can which is a huge plus but it would be better if players had the option of designing their own character from scratch.

Verdict - If you enjoy the games I have mentioned, Skyrim and Dragon Age especially, you will enjoy this game also. The lack of character creation takes away from the RPG element but doesn't ruin the game. 8/10.

A truly amazing game! Hours I have spent roaming the vast world, completing the various side quests and leveling up my character, Geralt. Game play is solid, yet fluid. Finishers add even more satisfaction to your kills. I've gotten so lost in a side mission story line that I forgot that I wasn't do the main campaign. Perfect game! Easily recommended to anyone that loves a good story driven RPG.

One underestimated part of this game is Gwent. I have spend a good 6-7 hours just finding cards and building a deck/decks and I still have a lot of work to do to get even my first deck how I want it/completed. There are 4 different types of decks and so far I only have one full deck, and as I said I still have room for improvement on that first deck. As a geek card player I find this rather amusing, and I also like how it's almost like a complete game in itself.

I have not played any of the other Witcher games so I went in having no real expectations. So far the game is amazing. I am having a blast. What makes this game so great in my opinion is the attention to detail, combat, easy to control, and the skill tree system. I wont go into the skill tree because I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but it really is pretty cool how CDPR incorporated the different skill sets and signs. (signs are basically different kinds of magic spells). The world is visually stunning, and massive. Not to mention its jam packed with things to do and places to explore. The reason I gave The Witcher 3 an 8 rather than a 10 is due to the somewhat choppy frame rate. It isn't bad enough that it makes the game un-playable, but it can however make for some frustrating combat scenes. Knowing CDPR this will be fixed with an update soon enough. I also can not stand the swimming mechanics. You will know what I mean when you try to loot a treasure chest that is under water. Other than that and Geralt's super annoying voice the game is great. If you look at the negative reviews you will see very quickly that those users have no idea what they are talking about. One guy gave the game a 5 because he didn't like how Geralt looks or sounds like. HAHAHA are you kidding me? Says a lot about someone who doesn't like a game because of how a main male character looks. Anyway the game is worth a try if you are a fan of RPGs. The graphics are incredible for how massive and detailed the world is. The combat system is easy to get used to. Kind of reminds me a little of Shadow of Mordor, but not quite as good. The sound is fantastic, and the level up system is fun and easy to use. My advice for those who never played a witcher game is to make sure you are at the same, or above the experience level any main story mission might have. Expand

The running control is strange. Close to perfection if you'd overlook that. But you won't. It's big. You can feel it all the time.
The glitch in moving makes it just too difficult to loot or gather ingredients, which is a vital part of the game.

nice long story, great voice acting, engaging beautiful world.

controls are ok but feel a bit clunky and unresponsive, could be more smooth and direct. developer should focus on gameplay first of all. this should be absolute priority in a video game.

My only other gripe is the endings for Geralt and Ciri I got were awful, when combined. Granted, I got the worst ones. But it literally made me feel like all the time I spent playing the game was wasted. And only because I made a couple decisions toward the end of the game. If I had gotten either of the other endings for them, I might have given this a 9. But, even though I made "wrong" decisions, they shouldn't completely ruin the ending like that.

Haha. Anyway, overall a really good game. Just need to get over my bitterness.

As with all RPG's you can't expect to run before you can walk. Myself, having just given around 300hrs to Bloodborne + DS2 at first found the combat system in Witcher 3 a little clunky. Having said that, practice makes perfect and the more I play the more natural it's feeling to dodge and parry. As an RPG veteran the Soul's games are the best in category.

A couple of dodgy mid air floating boxes doesn't distract from the overall technical marvel of this game and the world is gorgeous. There is an abundance of things to do and should be done in a lazily fashion. Take your time, lust over its grandeur and you will be awarded with one of the best RPG experiences around.

In-depth review - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a brilliant game. Having sunk many hours into it, I have seen and done much but not nearly everything. It has taken me around 30 hours (not including exploration of which I have done around 10) to get to the near the end - I am just a few missions away. So, I have decided to share my thoughts on this staggering game.

Story and Missions - As I said, around 30 hours and I haven't quite yet completed it and personally, I find the story a little boring and long-winded with the missions being a bit too repetitive. However, I have scored them an 8 and a 7 respectively because, my personal opinion aside, they are well written and occasionally very interesting with some well put together characters.
But personally, I found the missions all too much the same - go here, mop up a room of hostiles or take on a monster, return for pay/information on Ciri. The almost endless stream of speaking to someone who wants you to find someone else so they will tell you where the person you're looking for isn't just wore the experience down for me. Throw in an often dry and lengthy story while talking to someone and getting nothing from them beyond more "find area, search for clues, find nothing and move on" missions and it really took the wind right out of my sails which too often made me put the game down. You may like it which is why I am not judging based on personal preference.

Aesthetics and Audio - The sounds of slicing someone's head clean off or severing their arm and head from their torso is rather horrendous... which is why it is fantastic. The detail they have taken to the bulk of the audio is brilliant. However, there are many sounds that just seem clunky and almost don't match. Galloping a horse across sand makes a muffled, scratchy sound - like hitting a wall wearing a Hook and Loop glove - yet in the game, it sounds like 2 halves of a muffled coconut smacking together. Also, the music tends to either not really fit or just fade into the background making it a bit of a waste. Aesthetically, the game is beautiful - very well-crafted and each section looks almost like nature itself had created it. The detail on the creatures and people of the land are actually very good and feels as though someone had actually been there and recreated the man and beasts as CGI. Bugs and glitches are relatively common, but none I would consider particularly game-breaking and I won't mark the game down for them as they can be fixed in patches and so fourth.

Game-Play, Controls and Content - Here the game stumbles a bit. The controls tend to be quite counter-intuitive, clumsy and very sluggish at times - often too much of the time. Times I have wanted to go from jogging to sprinting and Geralt has stopped and extinguished a fire or I have been stood in front of a flame and he has opened a container of loot or I have wanted to draw a sword quickly and he has taken his time, seemingly pondering the complexities of the universe while a gang of thugs roll on me, are simply too often. However, once you get a rough handle of the controls (after many hours) they still feel a bit awkward, but, aside from the occasional muck up, can pull themselves together. I have explored a great deal of the world but there is still much much more left almost begging me to explore it. I wouldn't say it is as seductive as say Skyrim's world - and by that I mean I haven't as often seen a cave or castle and been drawn in - but this is mainly due to it being mostly out in the open, whereas Skyrim and Oblivion, there was more mystery in not being able to see into a cave before entering. However, it is very interesting and so airy, I actually enjoyed just walking through a plain or a Forest or something; even without seeing anything off interest as it was just so lovely and pleasing a place to be.

Overall verdict - Staggering and beautiful land with plenty of interesting and well-crafted inhabitants - man and beast - but let down by clumsy controls and somewhat repetitive missions giving a score of 8/10. A great game, definitely worth getting - especially if you enjoyed Dragon Age: Inquisition and want to explore almost something like an open-world version. If you just want something to fill The Elder Scrolls gap while waiting for The Elder Scrolls VI, then I would advise you dabble with the story, not going too deeply just to see if you like it, and just enjoy the world. Enjoy responsibly - a friend of mine adores this game and he used to have a social life before he purchased this.

A great open world game, but severely let down by reptitive side quests that are meaningless and as a result bad pacing in terms of the main story. Given that and the repetitive format of the quests, it starts feeling a bit grindy even early on, which is made worse by the fact that a lot of your time is spent riding around on your horse trying to get from one quest to another. On the plus side.
    The witcher:
    - goergeous nature, folliage, especially on sunset
    - many, so many beautifull anims
    - very good dialogues for the main quests
    - have to say that the main characters are beautifull and mouvements natural and fluids.
    - to my opinion, the Islands territory is the most visually pleasing
    - superb monsters !
    Skyrim
    - huge world with a ton of things to discover, a lot more than The witcher
    - more landscape diversity
    - battle stays chalenging at all level since the opponents level increases with the main character level.
    - presence of a chest to store valuable ( no such thing in the Witcher )
    - alchimy a lot more developed. In the witcher you can grab a lot of different things by killing monsters or picking flowers... but only a very small portion of them are usable. The rest you pick is for selling... they have the foundation for a great option to the game and missed it, for what I am concerned.

    On the minus sign
    The Witcher
    - see my comments above on Skyrim
    - repetitive faces... seen on the secondary characters (merchants for example)
    - repetitive and limited secondary quests

So, will The Witcher pass the Time test ? Will you come over and over replay this game due to it's absolute qualities and quests ? I don't think so. After a couple of time the game will take dust on the shelf.
Beware not to expect to much when buying the game. It is over rated.

It is a fun game to play but 2 cons I have found so far. Long load times, some are worse then Bloodborne, that needs to be addressed. Also, when you get stuck on something and can't move and die, mostly when jumping and you hover because the game has no idea where to put you.

If you want an open-world rpg with great story, combat and just overall fun, then this game is a must. however, it is plagued with minor bugs that prohibit you from finishing certain quests; even going as much as saying you failed a quest even though it was done correctly and fully. Thus far, I have 3 quests that cannot be finished due to these bugs out of 30. Very annoying

The game is really neat has great character development, and endless sidequest. The game is enjoyable, but the character movements feel very unnatural and fast compared to what they should be which makes handling the guy worse than it should feel. Other than that it's a great game with several of hundreds gameplay.

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
