I like that you start off with some decent abilities as well as a mount needed to traverse the world. So far, the only thing I don't like about it is that its much easier to find the quest area than it is to find the people responsible for it . Example: I got a quest from a bulletin board (how original, right?) and went to the quest area. Once I was there, I forgot something that I needed and had to go back to the village and find the person who I spoke to about said quest. It was really difficult to find this person as there is no marker that labels who it was. The marker only shows you the objective on the world map. But this is such a minute complaint. The Witcher 3 surpassed my expectations and is a definite must play for anyone who enjoys a challenging rpg that is rich in story as well as game play. 9/10 Expand

It's world and lore very rich in detail and so beautiful that I usually stop to admire the landscapes - something I rarely do in games. The maps are very big, with tons of Witcher activities to carry out, and alive too with monsters in habitats and humans in villages, that actually sometimes collide, resulting in the deaths of entire villages. Gameplay relies on you, the player's knowledge of how, and when monsters attack, what their weaknesses are, and what tools to use. Basically it's a role-playing game that gets the job of role-playing done - where you, the player, are put into the role of Geralt of Rivia. You are made to try to think like him, immerse yourself in the character, and be him. All the while, maybe adding a bit of your personality to him, to decide what's right or wrong in the game. Choices also actually affect how the game ends. It's the first game to actually get me somewhat teary eyed in the ending.

Also, don't mind those people who complained that the PC version took a hit in the graphical area. The graphics are still beautiful and PC people are just-- ugh.

All in all, this game is a great end to Geralt of Rivia's story. Get it when you can.

The game itself is beautifully realized; visually I can safely say it is one of the best examples of a true next/current generation game. With amazing lighting and fairly spot on textures, although a little rough around the edges at times, it has maintained a solid and consistent frame rate for me. Character modelling is very good, animations are nice and facial modelling is also very good. Enemy detailing is also very nice and some bosses have their own unique 'skins' if you will, allowing them to stand apart from their lesser compatriots. Monster design on a whole is unique and feels fresh; the creators not afraid to make up their own creatures as opposed to using set models the likes of which are usually featured in this type of game.

Gameplay on a whole is very good from my point of view, even playing on normal difficulty there is a good level of challenge to be expected, as described by one CD Projekt Red employee: "it's on a scale between Skyrim and dark souls" with some of the harder difficulty levels edging closer to the dark souls side of the spectrum. Supplemented by a vast amount of lore and tying in very nicely with the in game bestiary; the crafting system plays a vital role in the game. If you are to beat the harder enemies in the game you are going to want to take advantage of the knowledge you acquire in order to craft potions and oils; to aid in your fight and these can often mean the difference between living to tell another day, or ending up as lunch for an angry werewolf.

The writing side of the dice slightly lets the game down; with the main story feeling slightly typical and in no way too unique (this is mostly personal opinion) however it does not detract from the fact that it is above average in the story department. Side quests have equal depth however and some are very memorable and some unique moments arise from wondering off the beaten path, just try not to go too far down it at lower levels, or you'll get smacked back to the starting area so hard you'll probably turn the PlayStation off and cry in the corner, wondering how you can be so bad at this game (it's not you, it's not an easy game and this definitely DID NOT happen to be when playing on Death March mode)

Overall, I would say a solid effort from a seemingly small company, they have outdone many larger companies with this game, not to shy of being a masterpiece, this game is definitely a must for any RPG fan.

I am loving it after about 4 hours of game play. If the control sensitivity was better I'd give it a 10. It doesn't ruin the game for me as it does for the negative critics on here, but it takes some getting used to. Every other aspect of the game deserves a 10 in my book!

The combat is MILES better than the prequels, kinda reminded me of Arkham Asylum, it seems that combat style is trending,

I would've liked a combat more on the Darksouls/Bloodborne side, you know how on those games you feel the weight of every attack you perform and it seems this game would benefit more on that kind of hack/slash, but that is just my personal view, the combat is really good.

The one thing that people is really complaining about is the camera. It is kinda clunky, but that's why you can go into settings and decrease the sensitivity on the camera. It still isn't perfect but at least it was enough to help me on combat, where i tend to move the camera a lot and the original settings would make me kinda dizzy.

Averall it exceeded all my expectations and would gladly recommend it to any fan of the series, if you are new to the witcher, I'd recommend playing the prequels first, since it will enrich your experience, if you don't have time to, find the lore online which is incredibly interesting.

We can all accept that there is a good dose of subjectivity involved in judging a game, whether due to its genre (which we might not like or understand), or due to the extent to which it excels (or not) in the things that we personally consider most important (graphics, game-play, story, combat mechanism, controls etc), or, in the case of sequels, due to the extent to which it continues orWe can all accept that there is a good dose of subjectivity involved in judging a game, whether due to its genre (which we might not like or understand), or due to the extent to which it excels (or not) in the things that we personally consider most important (graphics, game-play, story, combat mechanism, controls etc), or, in the case of sequels, due to the extent to which it continues or diverges from the earlier games.

Still, there is also arguably a point where a score simply becomes not an evaluation of the game, but essentially an expression of a purely personal preference. For example, one might not enjoy the music of Beethoven or Queen, it might leave you entirely cold, but it is difficult to see how one could legitimately award the Fifth Symphony or Bohemian Rhapsody a 0/10. Unless, that is, one was simply using 0/10 to say ‘I personally don’t like this’ - but, the point of a review, shared with others, is that it should probably be saying something more than ‘I like this’ or ‘I don’t like this’.

So, while I can see - and understand from comments - why users might rate the Witcher 3 anywhere between 7/10 and 10/10, it is extremely difficult to see how, objectively, one can attribute a 0/10, 1/10 or 2/10 (as some have); this is basically proposing that the Witcher 3 is very significantly worse than, say, Duke Nukem on last generation.

    Consider the various parameters:

Graphics: in general, these are clearly up there with the best, particularly the attention to detail (whether the clouds rolling-in as part of the dynamic weather, or the goose flapping its wings and moving out of the way as you walk through a village). There are some issues with frame-rate and clipping (on console versions), but difficult to put this parameter below around 8/10 given the scope of what has been achieved in relatively early-era next-gen hardware.

Sound/voice-acting: often over-looked, but the voice-acting is pretty impressive, with a range of accents, genuinely differentiated attitudes, and a rounded characterisation of even relatively secondary characters (e.g. the old woman in the ‘frying-pan’ side-quest). Geralt himself, admittedly, might perhaps be a little to flat for some, but again difficult to put this parameter below around 8/10.

Decision-making/choice: far more than Skyrim, Infamous or Dragon Age etc, even simple side-quests can involve multiple options, with subsequent repercussion, but without presenting an obvious ‘good or bad’ choice (e.g. the ‘precious cargo’ side-quest). Hard to see less than 7/10 or 8/10 for this aspect.

Combat: yes, this will divide more. For those used to the more diverse array of routes available in a standard RPG - Skyrim, Dragon Age, Dragon’s Dogma - the ‘two swords’ plus a limited range of magical options will frustrate some. You cannot build a true ‘mage’ character for example - but, then again, this derives from the lore of the game. It’s a little like God of War combat in an open-world RPG setting, so one can appreciate why it could potentially alienate both camps. Similarly, lock-on and camera can be an issue in combat situations, and combat can, on average difficulty settings, devolve to ‘drink potion, apply oil, block, hack, block, hack etc’. I can see why aficionados could, in theory, go as low as 6/10 or 7/10 for this element.

Customisation/Levelling etc: This will appear limited to some. It takes longer than in most games to increase level (especially for earlier level-ups - though this is partly mitigated by the ‘places of power’ option); and many of the upgrades are rather boring ‘increase this factor/attribute by 5%’ etc.

Alchemy/Upgrades: Alchemy is more complex than in many similar games (requiring one to create ‘sub’-ingredients even before one can then craft - though this is partly mitigated by the ‘once learnt, replenish via alcohol’ mechanism). Conversely, weapon and armour upgrading is pretty limited, especially compared to, say, DA Inquisition.

One could go on… But, even the harshest critic, who saw each of the above in the most negative light, would struggle objectively to justify lower than 7/10 overall, and so I do wonder on what possible basis some have given this game a 0/10 or 2/10…

Some of these missions are also creepy in awesome and new ways that left me thinking about the characters. While I could have given this game a perfect score, I didn’t as it has it main share of issues. The worst of which is that I lost over 10hrs of gameplay due to a buggy save system that at times refused do automatic and manual saves; the game also has a really wonky camera at times, and you find yourself with Geralt facing the enemies while the camera is looking somewhere else; the character movement is odd also… Geralt moves at a pace that is difficult to control… As if he’s always walking with a momentum equal to running downhill. Roach, Geralt’s horse, is useless sometimes as you have to be perfectly aligned to mount it (I wish the mount behaved similar to the ones in Dragon Age). Oh… and for some odd reason, there is always a light or candle in the middle of NPCs, chests, Roach, loot bags, etc., meaning that if you attempt to interact with any of the later, Geralt ends up lighting candles.
Anyway, aside from the technical issues, this is a great gaming experience and probably the best RPG I’ve ever played (sorry, Mass Effect).

I was initially concerned with the reviews stating *clunky* controls and combat, but can say that these concerns are overstated and, although the game does have some flaws when it comes to controls, they perform more than adequately in the context of this type of game. Seriously, I've just come from Bloodborne, which has incredibly responsive controls, and The Witcher 3's controls don't bother me.
The crafting and levelling system seems a bit complicated initially. Spending a little time getting to know the menus and how they work should help clear that up, though they could certainly be more user friendly.
Visually it's stunning. I'm playing on the ps4 and haven't noticed any significant frame rate drop, and have frequently stopped in awe at the beautiful surroundings.
This is a fantastic game, and those who are maybe a little sceptical, as I was, I'd advise to dive in. You really don't need to worry. You'll have a blast.

    HONEST REVIEW - PS4 Version
I decided to create an account just to review this game. I play on the PS4, so I can't comment on other versions. Before buying Witcher 3, I checked out reviews on here among other places. Like most people, I wondered if it lived up to the hype. In many cases (not just this game), positive reviews are often short, generic praise, and non-descriptive, giving the impression that they may be just fanboys or people trying to boost the rating. And after reading many negative reviews on it, I nearly decided not to buy it because they sounded a bit more well thought out (honest). But now I'm very glad that I "gambled" on this game.

I have to admit that the first night I had it I was not impressed. Had I rated it after the first hour of gameplay, I might have gone with a 6 at best. The camera motion was extremely choppy. Which made moving around and interacting with things difficult. Even the buttons didn't seem to be responding correctly. But then they released patch 1.04 which made a HUGE difference in the gameplay experience. Now I've got over 30 hours in and my wife and I are enjoying every minute of it. She enjoys the story, cinematics, and action so much that she just sits and watches me play like it's a movie. The huge world is beautiful and feels alive. Trees move, grasses move, even your hair moves! How many games does your hair look like a plastic mold on your head? Here it looks realistic and flowing. You could complain that the trees move too much. At times you might think you're in a tornado. But I'm still taking it as a positive compared to motionless environments. Some people complained that the environment is too plain and boring. It's supposed to be a realistic world, not an alien planet. When was the last time you went outside? That is what our world looks like. As I said, the story is excellent. The main characters are very well done and enjoyable (even Yennefer, who spends much of the game being a **** lol). I think the voice acting for most of the characters is also very good. The Gwent card game is one of the best in-game mini-games I've played. I spent several hours one day just travelling around playing gwent with NPCs. While the side quests can be similar (you're a monster hunter, that's kinda the point of the game), very few are copy-paste like some other games.

It's not perfect, though. There are some negatives which prevent me from giving this a 10. The camera angles are a little awkward at times. If you don't press R3 to focus the camera on a target, you can often find yourself trying to attack an enemy who circles around you and is now in the foreground and off screen. But it's not like it's difficult to move the camera with the right stick. Rarely, if you have your horse on autopilot, he will make an abrupt turn for no apparent reason, which is annoying. The text and icons on the HUD and in character menus is absurdly small. I guess they assume everyone owns a 60" TV these days. But hands down the biggest complaint I have is interacting with items/loot/NPCs. Often, you have to be standing in JUST THE RIGHT SPOT to pick up an item off the ground. But once you get used to how you need to point the camera directly at the item, you can lessen this issue. CANDLES! There are candles everywhere and you can ignite/extinguish them with your witcher powers. If there is a candle next to some loot or an NPC you want to talk to, you will often find yourself playing with fire rather than doing what you wanted. Frustration is compounded by knowing that there seems to be absolutely no reason to interact with candles in the game.

Many people have complained about the controls. I assume these people play on a PC? On PS4 they're exactly what you would expect: move with the left stick, adjust camera with the right, buttons for your main actions, specials with the triggers. Pretty straightforward and natural. Character animations and movement can be a little clunky. If you are stopped and want to go the opposite direction, your character makes a turn like you would in a car, kind of a sweeping arc. They don't just spin and start going the other way. People complain about the combat as well: some that it's terrible, others that it's too hard. At first I found myself getting beat up by some lowly creatures and mauled by packs of wolves. But a little practice with blocking, dodging, rolling in or out of the fray, and paying attention to the habits of the enemies goes a long way. The enemy AI is not brilliant, but it's not stupid either. There are times against single enemies when you can go in swords-a-blazin' and just keep hacking till they die. But most fights require some strategy and at least pose a challenge.

Overall, I give Witcher 3 a 9 because the story, characters, and graphics are all really good, and those things mean a lot to me. But I understand the controls/interaction issues and why some people would rate this as low as a 6 or 7.

So far the best game on the next gen platforms, And arguably one of the best RPS's of the past 5 years.. Feels very much like a cross between Fable, and Red dead redemption.. The gameplay, story, and graphics are amazing.. Only reason I'm giving it a 9 and not 10 was the camera takes some time to get used to as some other people have pointed out.

solid game with great plot and combat. however, currently the game is plagued with bugs that do not let you finish side quests or just randomly crashes. love the game overall, but beware of these bugs. they're incredibly annoying!

Very good game, however not without flaws. Various bugs throughout the game keep this from truly being a masterpiece. I wish I would have waited a few months to play this game so they would have all the bugs patched and make it a more enjoyable experience. Very long game if you explore and do the side quests, expect to invest at least 200+ hours to fully clear the maps.

I have read many reviews where people are panning this game for its controls being a bit difficult to get to grips with; whilst they could be a bit sharper let us not look past what this game is offering you, a true masterpiece that has it all for a game of its genre. Do not despair if you have not played the previous titles in this series as the back-story is well explained and this really could stand alone as a title all by itself. My advice....book some holiday, reserve yourself a long weekend because its one of those that you will play for 5 hours, think that you've had you fill, turn it off then before you know it that controller is calling you. It’s not a game that appeals to all but you can’t please everyone, but then as I like to say nothing is perfect so it's a 9/10 from me. Expand

What can I say about this one that hasn't been said already. Geralt is back with the new and possibly the last installment in the Witcher series. The game is incredibly beautiful and well realized. The story is superb and CD Project Red really pays attention to all the details. Next up Cyberpunk 2077.

I found almost every time I got something 'high leveled and moddable', it was many levels under what I was at at the time. Fairly important issue really, for a game like this, redundant loot. However it definitely wasn't enough of a prob to detract too much from the experience. A less serious but still important issue I had with the game, was being restricted to one love interest if you wish to succeed at an ongoing in game relationship. It's one or the other, female only, which i found restrictive and too traditional. I mean come on, in this day and age. Sure it should''ve been hard to pull off, but it defo should have been an option to suceesfully get it on with both your love ineterests on a permanent basis. Failllllllll... ;)

I've already purchased the expansion and have Geralt decked out with Mastercrated Wolven gear ready and waiting.

    TLDR:
+ 100 plus hours of fun. Incredible value.
+ Countless useful potions and mods offer a plethora of effects and options in approaching battles.
+ Interesting story and real consequences for many of the protagonist Geralts in game actions.
+ Enjoyable combat that can be easy or complex depending on the player.

    - Disappointing loot scaling may have you getting underpowered gear far too often
    - Roche (your in game horse), is often spawned behind you and in annoying places
    - No three way option with your two in game love interests

Conclusion: This game looks beautiful. It's a large, open-world game, that has tons of quests. Even the side quests are interesting. Usually a game with side quests have side quests that are boring and/or repetitive. I used to get frustrated at this game because of the 30 second loading screens you get every time you die. Though it's really just my fault for not studying the combat system more. The combat system is fluid and well crafted. This game is challenging, but it's not TOO challenging. The pros definitely outweigh the cons.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think we can all agree that this year has been an amazing year for video games so far. I think we can also agree that, with this in mind, no-one expected The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to blow mainstream role playing games out of the water. The game features some simple RPG mechanics (level up, receive skills, create a suitable build) however I don't think any other game alike has caused me to think and adapt, especially in the Blood and Broken Bones! and Death March! difficulties where you are limited in such a way that you cannot heal when meditating. During my travels I'd often get distracted while bee-lining it to a quest location to the extent where I'd spend forty minutes lost in the wilderness while on the way to complete a simple Witcher contract. The quests don't even feel like quests but mini adventures. In fact, I don't think I've come across a single ordinary do-here-fetch-this-come-back quest and that is saying something if we're speaking generic RPG here.
Proclaimed YouTube reviewer Angry Joe states that 'the story is on par with that of Game of Thrones' and I definitely agree. The main story begins like nothing special where Geralt is trying to find his love of yore and upon finding her is immediately sent out to find the girl he raised, Ciri. The story picks up extremely fast as soon as Geralt meets Triss, another of his previous lovers in the city of Novigrad, which feels like it's about as large as a country in itself. The game's release came with some unwanted, bugs and glitches which, usually, wouldn't phase me but upon buying the PS4 version I suffered a game-breaking glitch where I'd get stuck at a never-ending loading screen. This has since been patched but receives a mention because of it's prior existence.
The Witcher 3: Wild hunt makes for a beautiful, vibrant change in the RPG genre and I hope to see some newer video games take the concepts this game has introduced up-in-arms to forge an all new RPG genre.

The Witcher III is an incredible experience that will keep you playing for hours. It´s graphics, though quite buggy can be amazing. The story is also pretty interesting and it has a ton of different characters. The style of combat is spectacular and there are tons of weapons and objects to use in battle. The title is kind of an interesting mix of the medieval ages and sci-fi.

The SKILL TREE wasn't too complex and felt truly rewarding. What truly made the game special though, was the living, breathing OPEN WORLD. There are endless monster contracts, side quests, treasure hunts, location discoveries, and random events. It's refreshing to feel as if the worlds entire fate doesn't depend on you, but instead feels like that world was there long before Geralt, and will be long after.
Its hard to find anything wrong with this game, but if I had to nitpick, I'd say I had a few issues with glitches here and there(PS4). Almost all of those issues came with NPCs either freezing or pop ins. Also riding your horse was pretty clunky and at times hard to control. These are both super EASY to ignore considering how epic this game is.
Aside from the actual game, the studio CD Projekt Red, has reminded the rest of the gaming industry that making a great game should be the one and only goal of a studio. Not thinking of ways to take advantage make extra money off of their fans. Not only was all the DLC all free, but the extras they packed in every edition game case made me feel like they appreciate the fans.

It's great what they have worked out this game from CD Projekt RED, there's no reason why it shouldn't the game of the year... Oh wait! It already is!

What I liked most is the endless possibilities you have when you interact with NPCs, the way it affects the evolution of history and the world around you, so that none is the right or wrong choice, all are viable and have their own reason for being in the course of things.

The main line of the game follows the previous titles, but you can play it without having played The Witcher I or II, which is my case.

It is a vast world full of bloody history and creatures to hunt, you never run out of tasks and secondary missions to do that's for sure, in any case you will have problems to finish everything, because its a game that delivers hundreds of gameplay hours if you decide to complete it. You even have a card board minigame that you will must collect if you want to go platinum; there are people who find it boring, but I enjoyed it pretty much.

Like any open world game, you'll find glitches here and there, but that's normal considering how immensely big it is, you do not get the picture of the scale of the map until you start playing! Roach controls are a bit squishy, but still you just get used to it.

I'm looking forward to the second DLC (I've already completed Hearts of Stone), Blood and Wine, to dive once again into this fascinating world that CD Projekt RED has given us, I'm glad to see there are still developers who know how to make videogames!

No doubt this is one of the games that I'll remember for many years when it comes to compare future releases of the genre, and it will be a difficult task to stand up next to The Witcher 3.

When playing on lower difficulties, the combat is average at best and alchemy system becomes pointless. However, it's not a problem if you play on higher difficulties, especially "Death March". It becomes much more interesting and challenging, potions actually starts to matter. Game controls are comfortable, except when riding a horse. It can be very annoying in small villages, you often get stuck or bump into something.
You can't avoid bugs, just like in most RPG's. I personally encountered 2 game breaking bugs, which forced me to load the game, but it's not a big deal considering how much attention to detail was paid during the development of the game.
I also have to give a lot of credit to CD Project for making this game playable on PS4. On early patches the frame-rate was terrible, I felt like I played on average ~24 fps, but now I hardly notice a dip below 30. Truly a remarkable job, something that can't be said about some other AAA developers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the games that forces you to make very difficult choices that will affect to the story and how everything really ends. There will be many stories going and how you handle things will direct events to certain directions. Time to time, these events fold after so long time, that there is no point to load previous save, you just have to live with your choices... and that is what makes the story, so good.

Story in Witcher 3 is larger than the world where Geralt of Rivia travels. World is large and filled with activities. Main story is only one thing, there is so many contracts and side missions that you will be playing for a long time and probably more than once if you are anything like me.

Story is not only thing that is great. Combat is very well made and there is many variables in it. Swordmanship is only one of them and player is free to chooce, whatkind of witcher Geralt will be. Combat is engaging and fun, it gives a challenge and feels very fluent.

Characters are often fairly decent, but those characters that matter much more, and much better. Triss Merigold, Yennefer, Ciri, Emhyr and Eredin are each very well made. They look good and voiced as good. They are characters you grow to like or hate during the long story and many hard choices. Many choices can't please everyone and you can't have everything, but that is the name of the game, you have to choose.

One thing that makes Witcher series much better than several other fantasy games, is the fact that this one is really an adult game. This world is filled with violence, sex, racism, blood and monsters. You can be good or bad or both, it is all up to you.
Game censors some parts, but adult themes are there and that is what makes the difference. Some love scenes are artistically covered, but the fact is that if you want to go to brothel, no one is stopping you. Same goes to violence. If you want, you can solve all problems with fists rather than words.

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is best game of the series and it is masterfully made story game, RPG game, action game, fantasy game and well, game. Witcher 3 is with no doubt one the best (if not "the best") game of 2015.

The game does have some technical issues, and the combat isn't that great, but if you can look past those faults I suggest picking this gem up.

The voice acting and writing elevates W3 to another plane of existence and the side quests are bizarrely often much more interesting than the narrative events of the primary campaign and this is my biggest gripe with the game... The main campaign starts out great and gets better but then proceeds to lose steam around the halfway point where the story becomes more hit and miss. I was not a fan of Ciri as I felt that she was a two-dimensional character that was difficult to empathise with and often the line delivery would be quite melodramatic.

The skill tree is very easy to understand and doesn't contain many (if any) junk skills/perks and the possibilities for different builds are plentiful. The world and its locations are engrossing and feel completely believable; there is little 'gameyness' to the world. The combat takes a bit of getting used to as it is fiddly at first, but it's a lot of fun and will test your reflexes a fair bit (depending on the difficulty.) Witcher 3 does so many things right but the best has to be the voice acting and writing. It constantly sets up intrigue and then rewards you both narratively and loot-wise, it's quite remarkable. I'm having a lot of fun now with Fallout 4 but unfortunately keep coveting Witcher 3 as it really made me stop and LISTEN to what characters were telling me.

From most aspects this game is perfect; however, I found a slight shortcoming as I had played for a significant amount of time. I found the combat to become boring. I will say, this could be because I was playing it one specific way when most players change their play style so, it could have been in how I was playing the game. Nevertheless, I found the combat to get a bit repetitive at the middle of the game towards the end and that detracted from my experience.

Its slight flaws in combat are the only thing stopping me from giving this game a 10/10.

The gameplay is weird but action packed, it's better to play in the hardest modes otherwise it becomes too easy in mid game. Each enemy fights differently and forces you to use different tactics which is great.

The crafting game could have been better, they have tons of stuff to craft but I found that making the standard equipment was enough, and consumables are crafted once and they refill when sleeping which was a let down.

Great features compared with other games:

    - Forced male character without face customization and great voice acting (great, it's more immersive).
    - The character is not an emo, nor a chosen one, is not superman either.
    - The character may be a cheater depending on player choices.
    - The other characters all have different and clear personalities.
    - Best characters animations and modeling so far.
    - Best book adaptation I've ever seen.
    - Best horseback riding experience so far compared to Skyrim, DA-I, TERA.
    - Very large and open world and you can go anywhere at almost any level (some monsters cannot be killed at low level).
    - Very long and entertaining story.
    - Optional quests are not the typical "kill 8 boars" type. Instead they are of the detective type with clues you have to find.
    - Nice card subgame Gwent which is optional.

Things that could have been better:

    - The talent system is somewhat limited, there are several talents that are not very useful.
    - Crafting could be improved.
    - The filler NPC characters faces tend to get repeated often.
    - Limited replay incentive.

What an amazing game!!!. So I don't usually write reviews but I finished playing this game about 2 weeks ago and thought it was really good. The graphics are superb I've never seen a game that made me be proud I have a nextgen system as much as this game did. The voice acting is pretty good (it took me a bit to get over geralt sounding like batman though). The body languange and facial expressions are what make interacting with people so good though. Sometimes I felt like I was watching a movie instead of playing a game.
This game has some serious glitches though an elusive gwent card glitch make it nearly impossible to get the "collect em all trophy" making a platinum sometimes completely impossible. There is quest where you get locked into a dungeon and seriously your only way out is using a different glitch. The horse mechanics are kinda clunky. Sometimes I sheathe my sword in the middle of battle which can get really frustrating. This happens a lot when I'm fighting humanoid creatures like dongs and monsters at the same time and have to switch between swords. Well sometimes I sheathe one and never pull out the other. I've had quests that don't complete the way they should too.
That being said this game is freaking so fun. I absolutely loved the gwent side game what a blast. I wish fallout 4 were half as good as this game..... or if walmart had a better return policy on video games but thats for a different rant. If you haven't played this game you need to it's the most enjoyable single player experience I've had on a nextgen console. Lastly you can't go wrong when you put in a pair (or a hundred) of real ta tas lol. Honestly this title must have put the ESRB through the ringer. Anyway this game is freaking amazing play it they play it again they get the dlc and play that.

The Witcher 3 has become an example of what open world RPG's should be like. There isn't one section of land in this game which feels like it's been copied and pasted from somewhere else, or rushed together. The buildings, towns and cities have been built into the landscape, but gives you the feel of being transported into another world, which strangley feels real (even though you're fighting Griffins and casting magical signs!). I loved every second of The Witcher 3 and even though I was sad to come to the end of the main story, I quickly realised I still had much more to do. The only small negative I have is that I felt like I was leveling too quickly towards the end of the game, which made me feel a bit over powed, even though I was at the recommended level for that particular quest and I also felt that the inventory screen could've been better thought out (even after the patch which changed this screen). Overall, I love The Witcher 3 and I'll be playing it for a long time. Expand

I then got consumed into Fallout 4 for a bit but got quickly bored of it. This weekend, after being disgusted with the amount of critical acclaim the Witcher achieved over Fallout 4, I decided to do intense research and practice with the game and I will say it is incredible. Better than Fallout 4 in nearly every aspect.

Writing: Honestly one of the best quests I have ever played. The writing is fantastic, the quests are fun, emotional, and somtimes, funny. The characters are also quite good. I love the personalities in particular of Geralt and the Baron.

Graphical: The graphics are nice. Water is very well done. The lighting and environment is very nice. Nothing unique per se, just realistic medieval and wilderness graphics. The monsters and armors are very creative; some look cool as **** (Wild Hunt Armor), and some look downright disgusting (Rotfiends, Botchlings).

Technical: The game runs at 1080p, 30 FPS on the PS4, typical with many console games. The combat is decent, the only really bad thing I have to say, but it is still quite good. It requires strategy rather than hacking the **** out of someone as say the Elder Scrolls. Movement can be a bit sticky too, I've accidentally fallen off of ledges quite a bit.

Overall: So damn good. You will probably love it if you're patient and willing to learn in the game and outside of the game (YouTube, Reddit).

    Sound:

Music in The Witcher 3 gets a bit repetitive but not to the point that it is annoying by any means. Interactions with other characters feel right, as the voice acting is perfect and believable. Combat sounds incredible as you deal or take damage.

    Graphics:

The Witcher series has been beautiful since the first game released and 3 was no different. The open world looked and felt massive, but every piece of the game looked so detailed. Characters were laggy at times, but this did not take away from how pretty this game looked overall.

    Gameplay:

The Witcher 3 is known for great combat, and great combat is what it gave players. No matter if it was an easy 3 hit kill, or a long drawn out battle during a hunt, it played perfect. Looting new gear and weapons keeps you busy and like all open world games, inventory is a pain to sort through. All over gameplay for The Witcher 3 will keep players happy throughout the entire game and more.

    Replay Value: Moderately High

    Story:

The Witcher 3 tells an engaging story, full of emotions and attachments to characters. With hours and hours of side quest plus a relatively long story, The Witcher 3 prevails with story telling.

Now, the only reason I have waited on buying this game for so long was that I thought I could not understand the story, and I was wrong again! The story is wonderfully explained and pulls you in (and you have the sudden desire to become a witcher and even start trying out the Signs [or spells] in private to see if they can work!)

The only reason I gave it a 9 and not a 10 was because I am not a big fan of the weapon degradation system, and I feel that adding the option to disable it would be brilliant. (This is not that annoying though, and doesn't take away from the game too much)

VERDICT: Get this game right now and get immersed in the story, graphics, and the bewbs!

Usually I say gameplay is king. And, for the most part it is. And while I would prefer a lightly less "spammy" and janky experience during combat, it is far from being bad. Sometimes you feel like a detective, like in L.A. Noire. The first thing I did was to low the joysticks sensitivity from 1 to 0'8. My complaints are: the tiny letters (lucky me I've a huge tv and I don't have much problem), another thing is that when you jump or fall from not so high places you lose health, the last thing to mention would be that sometimes you feel that the story advance too slow. If you like rpgs you're gonna love it. If you like games with only action and more action maybe this is not you're kind of game. To sum up, I think this game has taken all the good things from other games and have made it a must have. Advices: stick to the main missions unless you want to raise your level or you feel to do this or that sidequest. The only sidequests that I'd recommend you to do would be the ones related with main characters. About magic, I normally used the Quen sign, but you can use whatever you want. I'd recommend to improve the Axia sign if you want to save some money, and do horse races to improve your horse and have more room for your things. It probalby took me 60 hours or so. About sidequets, there are some of them that will be cancel at some point if you don't complete them and you only go for the main missions, still, you don't know which ones are so, I wouldn't worry too much. Now that I've finished this game I'll probably do a couple of high level sidequests or hunts and that's all. Expand

The negative reviews have their points: some slightly clunky mechanics at times. That being, you might find yourself wondering in to a wall here and there, struggle to have the smoothest of horse rides from time to time - the horse riding is the most clunky... you can jump 'roach' over obstacles but there's times when your going full gallop an a little broken brick wall might be somewhat in your way and where you might hope 'Roach' has the initiative to leap over the little wall instead you come to an abrupt hault before you've seen it... you have to be a horse jump master, basically. But it's hardly a worry because they've ingeniously input a mechanic where if one is riding along a path, if you let go of the analogue controls, you can ride said path without steering, just canter, gallop and glue - makes for nice scenery watching as you ride, though be sure to steer when you get to a cross-road or hair pin or you'll soon be riding in the wrong direction. But other than a minor bit of clunk here and there (trying to angle your screen just right to select one of several bags that you haven't looted yet) this is an otherwise fluid and tasty little game.

Anyone **** about loss of combat mechanics is talking rubbish - okay there's not the pedantic math of the huge MMO RPGs but if I'm honest that to me is a bonus; no game should be bestable based on one's ability to sum up the digits... it should be bestable on one's unique talents - I get so down when the only way to be king of the crop is to "HAVE THIS INCREDIBLY SPECIFIC LOADOUT AND SKILLSET AND ARMOUR" - The Witcher delivers this but otherwise relies on a player's collection of potions and bombs, the diagrams they've found and all manner of skill combinations - when it comes down to it, if you can't kill the monster up ahead, it's because you haven't read your beastiary like a real Witcher, you haven't found the right tools for the specific job and you just aint got the stones to take the creature down. No one collection of items does it all - this: me likey very much!

Graphically of course it's stunning - overly orange dazzling sunrises over forested peaks and where folks and saying: same old westernised fantasy realm (unoriginal) I beg to differ! The USA is typical for it's glossy caricature of fantasy, Project Red delivers, instead, a far more (in spite of a nice hue at sundown) wind-beaten landscape, craggy, haunting. I've wondered enough fantasy game forests without so much as a whisper of fear only to find myself feeling slightly spooked when first caught in the middle of the mist-veiled trees of Velen. The monsters don't feel like alien lifeforms either, they look like monsters that could very well exist in our human world - pit me against a any of the beasts of ESO or Warcraft any day over the horrible flesh-sloughing, skeletal and fang-ridden horrors of the world of the Witcher. Even the bears have a lumbering, hulking majesty over the roly poly figures I've seen across all manner of other available digital landscapes.

There are plenty of fantasy cliches but where I've seen other realms fail to capture the sincerity of their story vs. the humour in their in jokes, the Witcher just seems to breeze both, every cliche is obviously and intentionally hilarious whilst the genuine nature of its more serious undertones feel far more alive, more pressing and genuinely harrowing. I thought I'd hate Geralt's typical American hero, husky, sarcastic and blunt demeanour: instead I genuinely LOVE it - it's relentlessly funny because it's so awfully jarring - some smooth, stereotypical badass trying to reason with confused Welsh peasants; really funny. And there's another win, in spite of the American cast of heroes, everyone else is deliciously Euro/UK regional in accent, the Mancunians, the Yorkshireman, the Glaswegians, the Cockneys, the Spaniards and the Poles... all done with enough racial stereotype but genuinely accurate dialect and mannerisms to make this game feel so much more real and alive than the static; "Hey! You there, please help me with this quest! My sheep are lost and I have a reward for anyone who can find them" NPCs of too many fantasy gaming realms.

Sore that you can't kill any old random NPC? Well then you're missing the most integral part of the Witcher universe: several novels and short stories combined emanating from as early on as the 1980s, 2 other games of rich (apparently non-canon but so well-done that many consider them to be) history and storyline and characters not of your own design - they have their own morals or lack of and for me, immersing myself in that story and character mindset appeals to my inner love for fantasy and story over my desire to just run around like a headless Trevor Phillips murdering everything in my path: not that kind of game at all.

This game is for the gamers looking for something to last them a few evenings of every week for the next year to come. Get buried in it. I know I am.

There are a handful of technical flaws, but given how large and ambitious the game world is it's acceptable to see a few graphical tics. Skill trees aren't as good as they could be; you can only level up your signs which aren't hugely important in the long run anyway and you'll never level up enough times to get to where you want to be with them either. The Witcher 3 is a masterpiece that seriously rivals any RPG I have ever played. A fascinatingly detailed world means exploration is actually interesting, and the story is well written and features some excellent voice acting. The controls take a little while to get used to, but it is well worth the grind. Undoubtedly the best game of 2015.

What an amazing game this is. The story keeps you at the edge of your seat and wanting more. The graphics are very well done. The only reason I did not give this game a 10 is because at times the controls can be a bit clunky. This is a must own for any RPG fan!

Eventually this game went on sale and because of the extremely positive reception I decided to give it a try. I didn't regret buying this game and would've bought it at launch for the full price. I'll start off by explaining the gameplay. This game is easily one of the best RPGs I have ever played, and for me, it's easily better than Skyrim. The voice acting is superb. The animation is amazing. The story is intriguing. The characters have personality. The maps are well designed. The quests all feel different. The game is amazing but as much as I praise the game I do have problems with it. My biggest gripe with the game, which made me not play it after a while, is the loading screens. The loading screens in the game are massive. I was doing a quest in the game which involved hunting down a werewolf, seems easy enough. Well werewolfs happen to be extremely hard enemies to face, but that was not my problem. My problem was that every time I died I ended up going through one of the game's loading screens. Due to me being extremely determined to finish this quest I ended up dying a lot, which in turn, meant more loading screens. There was some annoying narrative at the beginning of the loading screens, which got annoying really quickly. This ended up with me getting sick of this and quitting the game all together. I haven't found the motivation to open the game again and end up playing till the end, but from what I saw of the game, I can confidently say that, if you are a fan of RPGs and games like Skyrim, this game is for you. This game would've been my game of the year if I wasn't such a Soulsborne fanboy. 9/10 too many loading screens 4 me. Expand

I really love Geralt as a character. The music fits the game. I love how alive the world feels, especially Novigrad, but its got its share of problems. They hate you offering your services, and detest you even more when they part with their hard-earned coin. Your mere appearance, it seems, is but to weigh heavy on their soul. With such a depressing outlook, it’s a wonder CD Projekt’s pièce de résistance isn’t one big sad slog, but quite the opposite. The Witcher hosts a vibrant world brimming with opportunity, you need only stagger your way around to see it all.

As someone long weary of fetch quests and open-world nonsense, to be as enamored as I am with this game is somewhat of a miracle. Wrapped in mystique, I’m eager to explore every arcane cranny. An ominous hole? Better believe I’m going down there for what could be as little reward as a loaf of bread. Appropriately, ‘wild’ is the word I’d use to best describe the massive world of Temeria. The harsh, windswept landscape feels anything but safe, bringing with it treasure, beasts and happenstance which could see you stashing a new bit of steel, or assertively pirouetting over a cliff.

Among its many creatures, hazardous fish-men ‘Drowners’ roam both land and sea, scratching at your heels as you pop down to explore that one last chest, wreck, or – as it turns out – three-storied Temerian Atlantis. It’s a land lived-in and a seamless melding of scene, weather and soundscape that brings forth a magnificent and detailed melancholy, the mood and intimacy of The Last of Us mixed with the beauty and breadth of Red Dead Redemption.

A simple stroll shows just how beautiful Temeria must have been before the war. Sweeping hills, plunging valleys and more than one glorious sunset still lighten the landscape, but the earth is now stained with blood from battles not long fought; overturned carriages litter the back roads, and lynched corpses sway quietly in the breeze – a warning – the shoes-on-the-power-line of this world.

It’s strange then that a team could build to such heights yet erect the foundations in a bog. Plagued by clunkiness, movement in The Witcher 3 feels like parkour through molasses – weighty and frustrating in equal measure. Never have I been more aware of gravity than prancing the coastline to only seconds later be met with an untimely demise, courtesy of what must’ve been a slippery ledge or perhaps an overly oily pair of boots? Keen to check that chest on the bluff? Get ready to amble tentatively and god help you if you overcompensate in acceleration – you’ll be eating more dirt than a Rock Troll. To afford a humanoid the weight and steering of a dual-skid catamaran is both bold and baffling, and it’s unfortunate that the plethora of boats littering the numerous lakes, seas and Temeria’s main river the Pontar, already pushes The Witcher well over its quota of maritime vessels. Sadly, there’s just no room for the S.S. Geralt.

To further **** this sandwich, The Witcher comes with one of the most ruthless fall damage systems I’ve seen. Anything more than a small drop and you’re a crumpled husk. It’s as if CD Projekt Red had a delayed reaction to the Crouching Tiger-like jumping of Bethesda’s Oblivion and set out to create the most grounded RPG imaginable, literally.

Fortunately, this kind of weight translates well to combat. Everything from a quick slash to a flashy upward arc feels both powerful and hefty. Enemies come with a reasonable head on their shoulders, and bandits, pirates or any of the numerous creatures will rally, mob and use their numbers to cut you down before you can get your own in. If respected, the combat system can give way to some excitingly grim finishers: an above waist vivisection, a kneeling decapitation or a grand height reduction by way of a sweeping kick… with a sword. Keep a quick dodge at the ready, and you’ll be lopping off legs in no time.

For the most part, The Witcher is astonishingly beautiful and without doubt, one of the best looking games on the PS4. So good are the visuals that it feels a disservice to any more than lightly jog the streets of its largest city, Novigrad, for all the things you may miss. Unfortunately, such a detailed palette has it slightly outreach its technical grasp. Load times are lengthy (prepare to pop the jug on should you die) and frames do take a dive in the more detailed and intensive areas such as Crookback Bog. The game also suffers from a team adjusting to mucking about on consoles. The UI is cumbersome, and the inventory: a grid-based system with egregiously small type. It may work on PC, but all that squinting and rummaging can quickly become tiresome without a mouse.

But, it’s an easy trade and The Witcher’s achievements far outweigh its missteps. The cast of characters is massive and always interesting. Individuals come pre-packaged with their own fears, loves, motivations and hatreds (you, mainly) and this affords a decent whack of nuance to side quests whilst aiding in the helix questing system – strands of adventures

The story of this game is awesome and like the Dragon Age and Mass Effect series, follows the very awesome decision making that makes different branching points and consequences. You can make decisions that might like kill another while it will save another, decisions that could make an impact later on in the game and many more. But what is the best thing in this game is that how sidequests are not that generic errand missions, almost every and each sidequests are relevant and affects the main story later on in the game. My favorite in the game are its contract missions, all are long, great boss battles and the various, unique and different ways our protagonist witcher will do to get the upper hand to defeat them. A great ending to a great series. A perfect 10/10 for me.

Gameplay - As to this aspect, this game didnt really do that great, it did do good though, first is with regards tor the exploration...Its bad. The roads are usually narrow for your horse roach that usuaaly you get stuck at trees, rocks, etc and added the fact that when you whistle for Roach, he always comes out to the WORST places its so dumb, another thing is the quest line guide to missions are bad i dont recommend following them. As to the fighting, its decent in sword fight but I would have liked more customization since you are just stuck on swords. I understand why though. The cons regarding mainly the brawling or when you are fistfighting multiple enemies, the controls or options are bad and annoying when you cant use healing items and you are fighting in a small spaces. Swimming mechanics are subpar too, My biggest problem though is its bugs, there are instances when you cant dive in the water or when you are riding Roach and suddenly an invisible wall occurs which you cant pass but can pass when on foot and many more, However, this game though did showed the BEST Minigame in a game for me ever, GWENT...no need to explain why, i encourage you all to try this minigame asap. Overall, a good score of 8/10 will do.

Graphics - First of all, i can really say that this is one of the prettiest environment i have seen in the RPG genre (Bloodborne and Dragon Age Inquisition are the only ones who can match it) it is detailed and i like how the weather changes from time to time. As to the characters though, the game has the most number of gorgeous and sexiest female characters ever. Everyone is pretty, had nice ass and **** whatsoever (esp the sorceresses) the guys are another story though since most are either too grizzled, old or generic except the main characters. Regarless, still a good game to look at and deserves a score of 9/10.

Music - music wise, damn this is one of the best soundtracks and themes i have ever listened to. Battle theme is good, but my favorite in the in game piece is a song sung by Priscilla in game. Really soothing, I liked the theme also that plays while im just in my boat exploring the Skellige waters. Voice acting is also superb, though i didnt like how the voices of generic characters are reused so much in game. However with regards to the main characters and npcs are good overall, Geralts low voice, Yen's proud voice, ciri's feisty voice and so on. Though i didnt like the voice acting of Triss (she made her look like a good girl archetype which honestly if you played the previous games and read the books, it doesnt fit her character whatsoever) and the change with Dandelion's voice actor which is good but i would have preffered his former voice. Still a decent performance though. A score of 9/10.

    Total Average = 9

My principle in reviewing games is nothing is perfect and nothing pure **** game and that there are no exceptions. Now, everyone keeps saying its a masterpiece or whatnot and i dont mind it. However, it is not a perfect game like what others keeps saying. It has a lot of bugs and issues that gets overlooked because of its strengths. Regardless though, I could say that it is one the best game i have played in the RPG genre which are in the levels of Dragon Age, Dark Souls/Bloodborne and the old and classic Final Fantasy games. A great epilogue to one of the best character of the witcher books and games. Kudos to the developers in putting real effort and time to make this great game.

With that said, I've docked 1 point for the following reasons:

    - The swimming mechanics and close-quarters combat are clumsy and glitchy at times.
    - The main character has no personality, and speaks every word of dialogue in a painfully monotone voice.
    - You may be disappointed if you're looking for the endless thrills of a GTA-style sandbox. Once the story and various side-quests are completed, its replay value diminishes much quicker than higher-octane sandbox titles.

Aside from that, I've had an absolute blast with this game. The Witcher 3 is a must-own powerhouse in the RPG realm.

BUT... it's not 10/10. This is a flawed game. Obviously all games have flaws, but to my mind if you barely notice the flaws first time (because you're immersed, engaged or having too much fun) then such flaws are negligible; sadly that isn't true of The Witcher.
Some of the flaws are minor but frequent. Glitches are common. The inventory system is terrible. The UI for many game mechanics is counter-intuitive and never explained in-game. The combat is detailed but not that satisfying (for a game about being a master swordsman/fighter there really isn't enough impact to the combat).
The biggest flaw here, however, is that this game really needs an editor. I love how much content there is, but often it feels padded. A lot of missions involve a cut scene, walking 50m, another cut scene, another brief bit of walking... There are times where it is effective and immersive to make the player do everything (like early on when preparing to meet [an important figure]), but often this stuttering approach to storytelling happens even at dramatic moments of the plot and it kills the pacing. (It doesn't help that cut scenes are often exposition heavy and delivered at length between 2 characters with a couple of fixed camera angles.) Side quests based around a single gag or interesting idea may turn out to take far longer than is interesting due to additional fetch quests, tracking missions and some generic fights. It all just needed a ruthless editor to keep pacing alive and side quests free from bloat.
Compounding this editing problem is a subtle failing of game design: most games give thought to play sessions but the disrupted pacing means the end of a plot section can always be anywhere from 2 minutes to an hour away with no way to tell. And good open world games attempt to signal to the player whether a side quest is a brief diversion or a whole extra chapter. The Witcher doesn't: there's no way to tell from the beginning whether a side quest will be a 5 minute diversion or a 2 hour sequence of events. As I say: I love the amount of content and the variety on offer. But a bit of editing and game design could've stopped that content from becoming a deluge of tasks I've missed, forgotten about or am now overlevelled for.

TL:DR great game, worth playing, pacing and game design problems slightly spoil the greatness of the open world and storytelling.

I didn't like this at first but then after I gave it 5 or 6 hours I got used to it. Humor does show up now and then to give some relief. So hang in there and give this game a chance. Also if you are like me and don't care to get stressed out while gaming, you can set the difficulty level at any time. If normal becomes too hard you can change it to easy at any point in the game. I loved this for when I wanted to just chill and lose myself in the story.

This game was amazing all the way from character presentation and design to the writing. The only reason it doesn't get a 10 is that some of the side quests get repetitive(go to X...follow trail using witcher senses to Y...etc). Also dialog options with key NPCs were limited. Games like Dragon Age Inquisition had a lot of dialog options with key NPCs and it helped to connect the players with the characters more. The Witcher 3 does not necessarily suffer from this, especially if you've played the previous games or read the books but for someone new to the series it may have helped to have some more dialog options to connect them more to the characters. In the game they portrayed Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, and Triss very much like the books do. I recommend reading the books before or while playing this game as there are some story lines that you'll get that you wouldn't get if you hadn't read the books.

Combat: honestly, I don't care. It's not my personal interest although some people are really into to it so from what I could tell on easy and normal settings it was fun. There are other reviews that'll go deeper into this for those interested.

Crafting and inventory management were not as tedious as some games but complex enough to satisfy the CRPG fan in me.

DLCs for the most part are free so make sure to download them. The Expansions such as Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are not free but reasonably priced. I played through both and didn't find them as fun as the main story. If you are a huge Witcher fan you'll want to play them, if not I'd recommend doing a second play through the main game.

This is one of the best RPGs I have ever played. It was fun to be Geralt of Rivia for the 60+ hours it took to finish the game. I recommend it to any RPG fan or anyone wanting to step into the genre(although it will give you unreasonably high expectations for every other game).

They are given choices which never seem to be black or white in morality but shades of grey leaning to good or bad instead. There doesn't seem to be a right or wrong and even when it does seem that way, it rarely works out as you envision in the end.

Combat is not unique but can be as simplistic as you like with just swords and dodging like a dog in a bath or complex with oils to assist your damage, potions to buff you or debuff enemies and spells to complement your meleé abilities.

If you want to do and see everything you are looking at 100+ hours in the base game alone. A classic, not just RPG, but game which will be remembered for a long time to come.

Great game! Why 9. Basically there are two things
    1. As an RPG, Witcher 2 is a better game, and I am not talking about mechanics or the graphic, but rather the story progression and choices.
    2. In the end, there were nothing mentioned about side characters like Roche, other witchers etc. What happened to them after? This one was a big disappointment for me. So 9, not 10.

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
