I started the game, and after the first 10 hours I was underwhelmed. I stuck with it, and by the time the credits rolled (including both DLC's), I felt I had just completed one of the greatest games of all time.

Great story, great world, good main character, still the best RPG, if not the best game of the last 10 years. Enjoyable on all difficulties. Great value for money in the DLCs especially Blood and Wine.
This is the Game that made me pick up gaming as a hobby again in 2015 after not having played any since Ocarina of Time.

Geralt himself just wants to do as much as he can to stay out of it, as a witcher he shunned for being a mutated freak, he just believes he can only play his part. the story and characters along with the world you walk through is so lived in, fully realized to build this fantastical, beauty but yet so real world. one moment you may be helping a man find his wife, to then find out that maybe all of it could be staged, but or is real, you really never know cause the quests always present a possible choice, you never know, to then accidentally find a ruined building with a cyclops around there just roaming the area for you to fight and take down, and once you take him down you can reap the rewards which so happens to be the master-crafted version blueprint of one of the best armor sets in the game. the sense of wonder, excitement and terror for what ever new thing you might find, like a new side quest or new cave or treasure to collect. the amount of monsters with a WHOLE FREAKING bestiary to read and look at the many monsters of the game, read on little details with a whole page to look at and the main reason to read it, to find out a monsters weaknesses which are very conveniently showcased. the combat, while "generic, as I will use lightly" makes sure that at the heart of it is strategy, using the right damage oil on the right enemy, what bomb to use at this moment, when to swing, not dark souls but it gets challenging, but never impossible as I decided to play on hard, to then eventually change it to very hard(death march) when I got a grasp of a good amount of the enemies and wanted more of a challenge and that is what I played the most on. the reason that makes the game challenging is the enemies, they will do what they can to overwhelm you, or use a couple tricks they can have up there sleeves, a great example is the werewolf, they are already rather aggressive, but around lower the 40% of health loss they will roar and start to consistently regenerate heath which puts you in the possession to be as aggressive as they are, which means reacting to his fast swings and chasing him down if he runs away, a basterdly foe, but a lot of fun to fight.. plus no one fight in the game takes to long before it might get stale, they have the perfect energy to keep the pace going of any fight whether or not it is a game of patience or reaction and time. plus the kind of experimentation you have in the skill tree is just the coolest, specialize in Igni and Aard just because, sure why not. or just be raw straight physical sword damage, absolutely. and I believe the most important part to talk about is the games incredible storytelling and the incredible story. the writing making each individual aspect of there character developed as a true identity and facet of everything they do(no spoilers). you feel for what they do because it all comes back to what people would do in real life and the this is what these characters do, more then this is what happens in the story, which is the best kind of character writing. emotional choices over understandable choices, this game will make you see the kind of person you are on the spectrum, and then you get to see the results of YOUR actions, and also how you influenced other characters actions to change there ways or indulge or accept what they are, for the better or for the worst on both ends. the choices you make can make the player terrified of making the wrong choice, and hoping that it could have the best outcome.
But I will not spoil any of the story, I really only did that when I talked about the politics, because there is so much game that all must play to see, to watch come down, and wash away the player and envelop and enjoy, with the amount of stuff to do, from rather pointless stuff to do like go to a brother and get laid with which wastes your coin, to LEARNING A WHOLE CARD GAME MADE JUST FOR THIS GAME, called gwent which is way to complicated to explain, but collecting cards to make your deck more powerful by defeating other players is just the coolest hobby to just include for fun, and it is so well designed that it is so hard to believe it is just a sure why not for the game.
it exceeds expectations of just being an RPG but an experience, This is one of the greatest games of all time. and one of my top 10 favorite games of all time.

Combat is just ok and for the most part a bit on the lame side. The camera lock is bad and annoying and the action of fighting really isn't all that interesting. If one has played Demon's or Dark Souls then the action of this games combat is rather primitive. Enemies will not chase beyond a certain radius making them cheatable. The amount of quests is fantastic however it is hard to fast travel in the proper direction of your current quest because its not integrated very well. One other issue of combat I find very annoying is swords are automatically sheathed and it can really trick you into player error stumbling into areas thinking you are ready for combat only to find out you are not. Load times are also extremely long. However on top of all these shortcomings this is still a fantastic game. Its sheer size and above average quality beg to grab your attention for a very fun playthough nonetheless. Although the combat can be bad there are a lot of interesting monsters and beasts to find and stumble across and a fantasy world feeling does exist that at times is exceptional. Despite some shortcomings I have high praise for this game and would fully recommend it. Just be warned its dialog heavy which also is its strength for critical path plots exist in this game and no two play throughs will be exactly the same. A very high quality open world game. Expand

Very well crafted. Increadible graphics, optimized for pc.
The main quest could have been 20% shorter, though.

Although I did wish there should've been more variety when it came to the free roaming (the ?'s around the map), but the reward of finding quality gear outweighed the repetitiveness of it. The witcher contracts were also a blast to play, as the side stories revolving around the monsters sucks you in, and you just want to see the sucker for yourself and kill it. Speaking of enemies, there is a lot of them in this game, with different ways to kill all of them, just would've liked to see more variety of move sets of each monsters, (it's a small detail, but it's something that irked me seeing a different monster within a set species having basically the same move set). Now the story itself was great with a amazing cast of characters I cared for, especially the well being of the girl we are after in the game. Some of the main missions dragged on unnecessarily, but for the most part I enjoyed playing the main story and watching the story unfold (kind of underwhelmed by all of the endings but that's my opinion). The gameplay and rpg aspects of this game can be summed up in one word: "simple". Basically a hack and slash game, with complimentary potions/ few magic spells and rpg elements to boost your character. Honestly, no complaints from me regarding the gameplay, would've liked to see geralt learn new moves and signs as the game went on, but again its a small detail that doesn't take away from the overall gameplay. After beating the game, i can honestly say that this is an amazing game but it's not for everyone, it's far from perfect, but the amount of stuff can keep you occupied for hundreds of hours especially if you like grinding. To end, if you plan on straight doing main quests and nothing else, it's an 8/10.. but if you like this game a lot, you'll probably end up spending hundred of hours on it and it's an 9/10. Expand

Incredible graphics, fantastic sound, remarkable soundtrack and great story telling. The AI, however, can be easily exploited in sections and some side quests and even main quest have some real issues. Looting is frustrating until you get used to the incredibly narrow loot range and direction - was done to allow for looting in combat but it also makes looting a chore when not in combat. There are some glaring clipping issues and sound overlay problems but that is to be expected in a game that provides well over 100 hours of game play. Combat difficulty is extremely varied and its easy to out level the main quest content if you do a significant number of side quests so be cautious if you enjoy a challenge.

I recommend this game highly to anyone that enjoys RPGs, despite some of the nagging minor issues. This is a game that will stay with you for a long time and is a fitting closure to Geralt of Rivia's tale.

GRAPHICS: The graphics are spectacular but demanding on the PC. You do need to have a substantial rig to fully enjoy the graphical fidelity. On console the graphics are well executed and meet the "next gen" standard.

SOUND: Really well done ambient, combat and location sound effects that create a very compelling atmosphere. However there are some sound bugs where certain effects will linger and over power dialogue which is annoying and immersion breaking.

SOUNDTRACK: The soundtrack is phenomenal and very fitting to the setting, well implemented and strikes a chord at the right moments with excellent fading and transition some exceptions where, like the ambient sound effects, the music is overly loud and will interfere with dialogue delivery.

VOICE ACTING: Superb voice acting, with good dialogue and consistently well delivered lines. The NPC dialogues in areas could use a bit more variety perhaps as it can become monotonous and even irritating to hear certain dialogues over and over.

STORY: Excellent stories and very compelling, rich character development using multiple story telling devices including cut scenes, descriptions, items and game play. One of the best stories in gaming.

GAME PLAY: The combat is varied, from easy to difficult and is usually dependent on preparation and build but the AI can have issues at times. Otherwise the combat is fun and is adjustable to play style ranging from light armored dodging, fast attacks and signs to heavy armored tanking and the middle path of a little of both. The limitation on healing allows for tension and precision and can be challenging. Crafting is well implemented and can play a vital part in the game. Gwent, the mini card game is really quite fun but can be completely ignored if you don't enjoy it.

GAME DESIGN: Great level design and a vast open world to explore. Secret passages, caches, and unusual ruins compel the player to explore. The exploration is also well rewarded with great story telling and really well developed characters outside of the main quest. The quest design is some of the best since the Secret World and many developers should take note of the quest design in this game as it sets the bar very high for the genre and for games in general. Even after completing the main story the remaining quests, even the ones that are low level, are enticing just for the stories that they tell.

RECOMMENDATION: If you enjoy RPGs and well told stories this game is a must purchase.

Amazing RPG! Best characters & voice acting. Amazing visuals. Fun gameplay. Interesting choices. Side quests are surprisingly well written, even better than most of the main story. Terrible inventory lag is the only real annoyance, and that's only once you collect a lot of loot - potions, etc.

    Such as:
    1) Glitches, minor ones. Kind of funny seeing characters phase through objects, magically appear and disappear. Puddles of doom (if this happened to you, you'll know what I mean.) None of these are game breaking, just minor annoyances that disrupt the immersion.
    2) Way, way, way, way to many pointless mini quests (hidden treasure, bandit, camps, etc.) While they are fun at first they do become mostly pointless once you start crafting your own gear. I would have rather had more witcher contracts, than dozens of meaningless smuggler caches.
    3) Gwent becomes far too easy once you have most of the cards. Why not introduce handicaps (like what they did in Final Fantasy 8.)
    4) Copy and paste sex scenes. Seriously, the Witcher 2 may have had less, but at least there was effort made so they all didn't look the same.
    5) Why isn't Ves a romance option? Or at the very least a quick dalliance.
    6) Unbalanced set monster levels scattered through each area. While it does add a challenge, it also forces too much back and forth. Also, it's kinda funny and annoying that at level 35 you still get mobbed by level 1 wolves. It would have been so much better if enemies were scaled to your level (with obvious exception to contracts and story related creatures.)

But these are all just very minor gripes which hopefully will be addressed in future patches and DLC.

The world of the Witcher 3 is massive and each area is almost game into itself. The level of detail and the scenic beauty of the graphics truly show what the PS4 is capable of.

The story is gripping from beginning to end. Many of the secondary quests are gripping from beginning to end. Excellent writing and character development. Although I did wish that there would have been more of Ciri.

    Overall:
The Witcher 3 is a marvelous game that is a clear milestone for the genre. Hopefully other developers will look to this game learn from its success. Thank you CD Project Red.

-World is filled with generic peasant npcs. Don't expect to wonder the world and meet interesting people. The interesting people you do meet are a part of the story.
-The combat is clunky and your horse has some of the worst controls I have seen in a top notch video game.

Verdict: If this games side quests were as interesting as skyrim, mass effect, or fallout then this would probably be one of my favorite games of all time. In my opinion the lack of interesting npc characters makes the huge world a little dull to explore. That's just my own preference when it comes to exploration. But really that is a small criticism. The game is tremendous.

I think it's fair to say that the Western open-world genre has become quite formulaic over the years. Yet, with The Witcher 3, developer CD Projekt Red proves that it's still possible to have a seriously amazing experience without necessarily innovating the genre's tried-and-true foundations.

The game puts you on the shoes of Geralt of Rivia, a witcher (monster hunter) who roams the Northern Realms in search of Cirilla, his foster daughter, who is being chased by a supernatural army called the Wild Hunt. Having not played any of the previous titles, I found myself initially intimidated by the storyline background; luckily, the game's tale is written in such a way that you can mostly ignore the finer details of Geralt's previous sagas if you want to.

The story itself is likely to please fantasy fans. It is a fittingly epic tale which uses the invasion of the Northern Realms by the southern Nildgaardian empire as a background, and it's reasonably fun and interesting. It does have its fair share of clichés and at least a couple of significant dei ex-machina (I'm looking at you, Dudu the Doppler) that render it hard to be taken entirely seriously as a piece of adult-oriented storytelling, however.

In his adventure, Geralt roams several open spaces through the Northern Realms. The landscapes look absolutely gorgeous, filled with impressive lighting effects and extremely detailed textures. One of my favorite aspects of the setting is how it mixes traditional fantasy with a bit of horror, leading to some pretty scary enemies and scenarios, but without resorting to cheap jump-scares.

There is a lot of ground to cover in the several open-world environments, with numerous towns, villages, sidequests and hidden secrets to keep you busy. Roaming the land in search of experience and loot is extremely satisfying, thanks in good part to the intuitive controls and the fluid action (no, there's not a single quick-time event to tell of, thank you very much). Like any good RPG, there are also extensive options to craft and/or buy gear, weapon, potions and assorted items, which manage to be intricate without getting overwheming.

There is only one significant deviation from this formula: gwent, a simple strategy card game, played by Geralt and several NPCs, in which you amass an army (represented by separate character cards) and control the weather to defeat opponents. As basic as it is, it's a surprisingly addictive little diversion, and sometimes I found myself setting the main adventure aside just to wind off against NPCs and win new cards.

Basically, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt plays brilliantly, looks gorgeous, and offers dozens upon dozens of hours for you to lose yourself in its very appealing brand of horror-tinged fantasy. With its compelling world, an equipment/potion/addon system that is deep yet easy to grasp, and a set of main quest missions that doesn't try to break its own boundaries in annoying ways, you have one of the best releases of the year for fans of epic adventures.

I'm a fan of The Witcher saga. I've read books several times and played earlier games. This doesn't matter really, because this game is going to be just as enjoyable to somebody who knows nothing about The Witcher yet.

This game is a good mixture of story-telling and gameplay mechanics. Exploration is also a big thing in this game and there's a lot of area to cover. This game is certainly not a substitute for Skyrim or Fallout which have very little story (which is not the most important aspect of these games). This game has a very good non-linear story which is even better if you know the franchise.

The map is huge. I have invested over 130 hours and I can't say that I've been everywhere yet. There's a ton of stuff to do (outside quests) - hidden treasures, bandit camps and so on.

The quests are very well written and most of them have better story than some other games. What is the most important - none of the quests felt like a chore and they aren't repetitive.

Visuals are very good and as of now (patch 1.12) game runs most of the time at 30FPS with seldom dips to 25FPS. Unfortunately that wasn't the case in the past. Until patch 1.10 the bog was vary badly optimized and during night FPS dropped to constant 18-20FPS (which is FIXED NOW).

Soundtrack and sounds are very good. The music has a Slavic vibe to it (well, the whole game does) and I really like it. Not only because I'm from Slavic country, but mostly because there are no other games like it.

Combat is much improved compared to The Witcher 2. The game forces you to utilize all your tools in most of the fights on normal (suggested) difficulty. These tools are - potions, signs (magic) and bombs. On harder difficulties it's nearly impossible to do anything without using all of these.

If I had to name the worst part of the game, it's the interface and inventory in particular. It's a SLOW mess. After you spend some time with the game and inventory fills up, opening its interface takes good 2 seconds. Switching between inventory categories takes these 2 seconds as well. If you have to get to 4th tab in inventory, you do the math.

Another part I didn't like is the map. It's slow and often loads up regions as you scroll (you first see black background). I don't like the fact that map pauses at markers because in this game the map is FULL OF markers and it pauses all the time.

Another issue are bugs. Most of the annoying ones are fixed now but it wasn't that way from the beginning . The good thing is that developer cares and patches were being released in a quick and professional manner.

As a huge The Witcher franchise fan, I'm really happy for this game. I treasure it because I know we won't get anything like it for a long time now. If it wasn't for the interface, inventory and map I'd give it 10/10 because I believe that this game is truly unique. As it is, I'll give it a strong 9/10.

PS.: The new expansion (Blood and Wine) will introduce interface redesign and I hope that inventory and map will become FAST.

Every side quest is fun and interesting, never once was a I bored with a quest or felt like it was just another fetch and return.

Graphics are great on the PS4, faces especially are amazing and the textures on clothing and armour have never looked so real imo. Some things lack that detail like grass but that really is just nit picking on some peoples part.

    Bad:

I found the skill tree seriously lacking and I never looked forward to leveling up and often found I had not even noticed and there was several skill points waiting to be allocated. There is some good stuff in there.

Yrden(trap) is useful once you invest heavily it has a dot effect and is good for crowd control.
Iign has a very cool firestream ability later in the line.
Bomb making can expand the slots to hold 8 bombs and turn them into cluster blombs. There is also a skill to make Geralt deflect and parry arrows.

Other than that most of the skill tree is 1% here and 2% there which you expect in some RPGs but that kind of thing makes up the majority of Geralts leveling. Mutagens used to be very rare and extremely powerful things that would give Geralt unique perks or talents now just about every monster drops them and they do little more than increase a stat. Some can make potions that are on a whole not especially useful imo.

    MILD ENDING SPOILER.

For the game plus the game reverts to your save world before you start the last chapter which I found really disappointing since I was looking forward to exploring the world after the finale and hoping more high level quests and contracts would be opened up.

    Summary:
Despite feeling the leveling up was kind of dull everything else kept me fully immersed in the game and as I said I mostly forgot about the leveling up, which is made up for by the amount of great and unique gear you can loot and craft.

This game is the perfect example I'd use to describe why open world RPG's are my favorite games. As a fan of the Witcher graphic novel comics I was eager to see an amazing story be told in an open world RPG. At the same time I was a little worried, the Witcher short stories written by Andrzej Sapkowski are truly a work of literary art. The lore is rich enough to envision the entire world of the Witcher. Andrzei was able to paint an entire world so detailed you wouldn't have any transition going into the games after reading the stories. I doubted whether or not the game would truly capture what makes the stories so amazing, yet I was not only proven wrong but completely amazed.

The Witcher is unlike any RPG, where your choices do not have a clear "Good guy choice" or "Bad guy choice" instead you will be faced with choices that warrant deep thought be put into it before deciding. Just like real life, you'll make decisions that you thought were the right choice but only for them to end up having severe consequences. Just like real life you'll have to learn those mistakes as you progress through. Usually RPGs will have choices but their outcomes rarely change the story, they'll have cosmetic changes and maybe certain characters will react differently to you but there are no branching paths.

Witcher 3 Wild Hunt improves so much upon previous titles. Witcher 2 had open sections of a story that you'd progress and move on to the next area. It gave the illusion of an open world but without the freedom. Witcher 3 has a vast world with many small minute details that most of which will go unnoticed. But for those few dedicated fans who love to scour the land to find all the nooks and crannies will be rewarded by doing so.

Crafting, character builds, abilities, the in-depth inventory and easy access to potions & spells makes the game feel comfortable to play. It takes only a few minutes to get used to the game and understand combat, however being skilled in combat will take some time and strategic planning. The game is difficult, as it should be. Reading the books and immersing yourself into the game will actually help you with combat. Books and knowledge provide insight on the lore as well as learning enemy weaknesses.

The story is still by far the best part of this game. To get the most amazing RPG experience playing this game, I highly recommend you make choices as you would if you were in Geralt's shoes. This adds immersion and really makes you think about your choices. Do not look up walkthroughs, exploration is one of the best aspects of this game. And I also recommend reading up on Witcher lore, it's incredible. From the Witcher's, the drunken hilarious Dwarfs that you'd be crazy to challenge to an arm wrestling match, the lore behind The Black Ones, the circle of Mages and the war of the crowns are all amazing tales to be heard.

I don't just recommend this game, I'm telling you this game deserves your purchase. This game will give you an experience that's more than worth the $60 price. Open world RPG's are not always given the spotlight in the mainstream gaming media but Witcher is definitely worth that spotlight. Open world RPGs and Action Adventure games are meant to give you a grand sense of adventure, exploration, immersion and an experience you won't find in other genres. Witcher 3 is an experience you won't forget.

Enter the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It melds the perfect combination of quests, gear management, and action into a game that is hard to put down. While other RPG's feel overly stuffed with level trees and item crafting, the witcher has streamlined them so that they are necessary yet not overly involved.

The ACTION! Oh, the action. It does combat better than games that are built around combat (mordor), and that is saying a lot! I find myself wandering the wilds just looking to take down the next creature.

One last note, it took the guys at CD Projekt Red three years to make this game. That is absolutely astonishing considering how big, how dense, and how gorgeous a world created here. (The thank you note in the game was a nice touch as well). I'm a huge fan of this game and now these developers. Looking forward to Cyberpunk.

Great game! It took me about 12 hours to slowly reach level 5 (I wasn’t in a rush). Considering I just found a weapon schema requiring being level 30, that’s a good sign that I will be playing this game for 100-200 hours. That is an amazing value for money. And, that’s even before any of the upcoming free DLCs. The future is looking great!

The open world is beautiful. I saw people complaining about this world not worthy of being “an open world”. They don’t know what they are talking about. This isn’t a corridor game. This isn’t a “Destiny open world” either. It’s a massive world and you can pretty much go wherever you like. Only in a while, they block access to an area mainly to prevent the gameplay from unravelling too quickly.

The gameplay and storytelling is of very high quality. Goof variety of choices (spare them, kill them, insult them, be nice, etc). The fighting system is responsive and fluid.

My four small annoyances with the game are: the fiddly inventory system (Witcher 2 system was better). The game text is too small (read the studio is working on it – I activated PS4 “Accessibility” feature in the meanwhile). The movement first step is often awkward and off (obvious when in building trying to loot (steal) items). The video sequences, even if high quality images often lack the smoothness in their movement (surprisingly with the techs of these days).

Awe inspiring effort who's only flaw is the camera and controls. I have just as much fun wandering around and taking in the aesthetics as I do completing quests. 9 out of 10....and the one point deduction is for the choppy controls. Can't help but wonder what this game would be like with smoother combat. Screw it, I'll get used to it.

All the quests are very smooth and don't drag on too long. Even if there is a lot of traveling involved, I have always found it fascinating to ride through unexplored terrain on horseback, even discovering new towns whilst in the middle of a quest, which I may do upon my own bidding. The characters, you may love or you may hate, but they strike emotion, and that is what makes them unforgettable. The world is vast and filled with a myriad of things to explore. It would take hours for me to bore myself looking around the map, let alone a single town. It is very obvious that there was some inspiration from other games, such as Dragon Age: Inquisition and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. If you have not played either of the first two Witcher games, I recommend you play at least one to familiarize yourself with some of the core elements of the game.

I am afraid , however, I must address the graphics. If you were expecting to play what you saw in the 2013/2014 trailers, then you may be disappointed. The game was heavily optimized to keep frame rates up. In doing thus, the game has become a lot less pretty and overwhelmingly realistic. The foliage is clearly not three dimensional, the hair (even with Nvidia Hairworks) does not look very kosher, and some of the terrain textures look rather grainy. There is still some very beautiful imagery, but overall, it is definitely not up to par with some of the less recent games, like DA: Inquisition. However, this does not take away from the gameplay.

All in all, this game is a marvelous experience and I highly recommend you try it out, graphical downgrade aside.

Overall, a great RPG that everyone who likes RPGs should play. Finally a game that is challenging, despite reviewers saying less so than the previous games, but I, having played easy games like Assassin's Creed, appreciate this game for the challenge it provides.

The effort put in to this game really shows, even the dialogue of secondary quests seems to capture the players imagination. I've liked the previous Witcher games also, but this felt like the best one in many ways. By far the best game I've played this year.

I really really enjoyed this game. I did every side mission, tried to level up to the maximum and seen as mach as the world as I could.
Everything is enjoyable: Story, graphics, items, character development, combat, mini-games. Nevertheless, the reason I can't give it a 10 is the amount of bugs it has. I could forgive if they were only visual glitches

The game was looking alot more solid that the previous ones. Doing the story is less my concern, because the free-roaming scale looking area makes you wanna go anywhere you wanted to be...

It's obvious that Wild Hunt will be delivering something that it's been expected, and it's impressed me alot...

This game wasn't on my radar at first but it intrigued me so I picked it up and I'm glad I did. I'm so tempted to give this game a 10 but there are a couple of problems that can't be excused like the controls under water being unbearable and the camera being unreliable at times. It's a great game with lots to do and everything has a stroy that is well thought out and interesting.

There are a few bugs with navigartion NPCs, the horse, inventory, wchich are a bit annoying but the game itself gives you so much pleasure that you forget about them. Grat work.

    3. CDPR says it will have multiple ending, well just forget that. Don't expect it too much.
    4. Side quests is well designed, and it sometimes effect the main story line.
    5. 200+ hours of gameplay is true, but most of time you just roaming around. The main story costs about 20+ hours depends on you.

    Gameplay
    1. Each skills have 2~3 variety, but you spend most of skill point on increase the strength.
    2. Oil, potion and bomb are important on higher difficulties. And the systems are well designed.
    3. You need to collect ingredients for crafting and alchemy system, and that's a main element in RPG.
    4. Combats are swift. If you except precise and focus style like Monster Hunter, you may think the combat are lousy.
    5. The maps are really really big, it takes time to explore it. And some of secret places are much bigger than you think.
    6. Because the maps are so big, if you die or using fast travel to different area(big). You may need to wait for a really long time.
    7. Free DLCs are nice and I expect the season pass will bring more fun.

    Music:
The soundtracks is pretty good, and I enjoy the CD come along with day 1 purchased.

    Graphics:
    1. Sudden frame-drop quite frequently, especially in swamp areas and confronting guards.
    2. The wind make those plants move unnaturally.
    3. Even patches the HUD is still too small for me. You need to sit very close to TV.

You should really buy it if you enjoy open world and ARPG. Might compete with Fallout4 or MGSV:TPP for GOTY

The reason I rated it a 9 is because I have minor issues with the combat mechanics and it is difficult to quickly earn money, but that's no biggie. At least I can save whenever and wherever I want unlike Bloodbored...hahaha.

Side note- I am struggling with organizing my inventory to prevent being overburdened, but it does add to the great experience. Time to learn more about organization and prioritization people. 1) Combat and Camera are clunky?
Not really. The camera is no worse than that of GTA IV which you quickly get used to and the combat is fluid and exciting.

    2) Movement is tricky
It was, but the developers added a setting that gives you the option to change this.

    3) Quests are repetitive
Seriously? I've fought with kings in foreign lands, swayed wars, toiled with the love of two mages, chased my (surrogate) daughter across the world, got into bar brawls, became a brawling champion, played cards, negotiated with Elves and Dwarves, raced horses, been in a play, searched the world for master crafted armour, fought in castles, got drunk with old friends and tracked/slain countless beasts from powerful vampires to packs of wild dogs... repetitive? Please.

    4) It's bugged and broken
Within a very short space of time the developers rolled out eight patch updates. Okay so not everything was fixed but it just improves all the time and improves quickly at that. Not good enough? Well, on top of that they also released sixteen (yes 16) free DLC updates - ranging from simple cosmetic options to entire new quest lines.

    OVERALL
The Witcher 3 is an epic AAA title that could be a justified winner of Game of the Year (dependant on Fallout 4, Metal Gear and Halo V of course).

If you're undecided on this title then you're seriously missing out on a magnificent game. If you like the RPG or Fantasy genre then it should be a no-brainier. If that's not something you typically like then I challenge you to play this right through and see if you feel the same when you're done.

Also the RPG dont usually have something amazing that it will blow u away or some kind of inovation of some sort, they just give u a huge map and everything else is pretty much the same with less effort-since the DEvs have to create the whole map...
However,Witcher 3 grows above every single RPG game i have ever played and if ppl really thought that Dragon Age Inq was a big hit or something then kiss my ass, because this game is at least 2 times better than Dragon Age Inq which seems like a child's game in fron of the Witcher

    Outstanding voiceacting,
    Amazing Facial expressions,
Interesting story with decent conversations and characters,
    Amazing depth with monsters,
    Huge Map,
    Nice combat fights(for an RPG)

    Coins :
If there is something that would be the kinda-often Frame drops which seems inevitable with those graphics,
Also, the combat seems kinda frestrating with the signs,te dodging, the running out of combat...

Overall,a gorgeous game-ofc i have to mention that i havent play the previous 2-however i had a lot of expectations on this game and there were pretty much right!

    Beautiful, but broken.
The Witcher 3 starts out perfect
You’re introduced to a massive would where massive creatures roam and make their claims on territories.
There’s a sense of fear and challenge in this aspect alone.
As you travel the land of white orchard you hear people call out for help and you stop to speak with them and help them with their problems for some coin.
Even the tiniest thing such as helping an old woman get her frying pan back feels immersive and draws you into the world.
This is where you’re introduced to the idea of oils and potions, finding enemies weaknesses, using your witcher senses to find clue about what youre about to face, and preparing for fights, something that comes in handy for harder difficulties.
I feel like this was the vision.
White Orchard would be what the witcher 3 was all about, and then the game kinda just falls apart and its vision fades.
The witcher tells a beautiful story of urgency, and for that reason alone, the side quests and question marks that clutter the map in velen and other locations make no sense to exist in the context of the games story.
Geralt needs to get to the bottom of what happened, why would he waste his time with the problems of randoms and destroying monster nests.
There are some great side quests that actually tie in to the story, and they are beautiful and fun quests but the ones there just to attempt and make the world feel alive ultimately feel like pointless grinding.
Many times I found myself just skipping through the cut scenes of these quests.
This could have been fixed with incentive more than coin, such as weapons and armors like treasure hunts offer.
The witcher contracts should have been mandatory obstacles in your way of story progression.
These type of things make sense in a Skyrim type game where you write your own story, but in the witcher 3, the story is already established... you aren’t an adventurer.
    You’re a rescuer.
But as a rescuer there is tons to do to level up so you can take on the challenges that await you.
Again contracts and sidequests could have used this idea for benefit, making them feel like training instead of just a job.
You can set out in the world to clear up abandoned sites to repopulate them, you can go out to take down beasts terrorizing territories or just go out and fight random creatures blocking your way to a new undiscovered location.
And the combat is satisfying, so fighting enemies never feels like a drag.
You can block, parry, roll, dodge, heavy attack, fast attack, shoot at them with arrows, use any of the magic signs to shoot fire from your fingers, use a protective spell, magic traps, knock enemies back, control their minds, so much opportunity and combos that can be played with.
And while defeating creatures doesn’t grant much xp, they are still worth the fight as enemies drop items for upgrades, crafting, and alchemy.
The crafting in this game really is some of the best I’ve seen.
You can dismantle objects for items you need to craft base items for main items, it may feel overwhelming at first, but once you really dive in, it’s clever and worthwhile to figure out.
You can purchase items from shops and alchemists or you can explore the beautiful world that The Witcher 3 offers.
When you do level up, you can use the skill points in a vast skill tree and choose the perks you want to use, with up to 12 free slots for these perks. This skill tree can be wrapped around your personal play style or the style you need to take down a specific enemy as there are potions to reset your perks so you can respend them.
I’m a very aggressive player so I for the most part focused on combat skills rather than alchemy or magic.
There are also races you can do, but your horse annoyingly gets caught up on nothing and will randomly just stop which can lead to frustration.
And now my favorite part of the game. Gwent.
Gwent is a mini game within the game and im not ashamed to say that I liked gwent more than witcher 3 itself.
Gwent is a very addictive game with massive marketing potential, so get to making the app CD Projekt red.
    Now for the bad,
for starters leveling up in the witcher 3 is a complete drag, not only does it feel unsatisfying to slay hordes of creatures, the games design actually discourages it.
If you dare level grind like you’re supposed to in an rpg rather than stick to the main story, you’re punished for it by earning 0xp if you’re 6 levels or more above the suggested level for that mission.
Not only does it discourage you from going on your own wild hunt, but it makes you look at side quests and blow them off, why waste your time and effort?
The game also has many stability issues
I lost count of the game crashes at 10, this was only in my first few days of playing the game, with and without game patches.
The Witcher 3 makes the mistake of not constantly saving when you stumble on new locations or accomplish something tiny like a gwent win, causing you to have to re-do 10-30 minutes if the game crashes, gwent cards being random for wins adds salt to the wounds, as if the game crashes after a win, you’ll more than likely not get that card again that you were so excited to win.
I also ran into head floating glitches that really just destroyed the world and its immersion, and there was absolutely no polish or attention to detail put into cut scenes where it should be most.
Sure I expect items to ghost through objects in game, but in cut scene, it’s unacceptable.
Not only are there game crashing bugs in this massive open world, but there are missables which is complete bs.
Making a 200 hour long game and putting content in there such as side quests and collectibles and making them missable if you don’t drop the world to do them now is massively disrespectful to players and their time.
At the very least put asterisk around missable quests so we know to prioritize them, so we don’t get lost in your story, heaven forbid…and have to replay a 200 hour game again to see content we feel robbed of, or better yet don’t make them missable at all, which leads me to achievements and more bs.
The witcher 3 is all about choices, that being said it’s shady as heck to put in achievements that force you to make certain decisions, really lessoning the games experience having to try to spin a web around a mid-game ding.
I know you don’t have to trophy hunt, , but that isn’t an excuse to disrespect a players experience by forcing those that do trophy hunt to play by your rules… that contradicts the entire premise of the witcher 3 as a game.
While I was massively impressed by my first 10 hours of the witcher 3, there are too many flaws in game design for me to overlook.
But that doesn’t take away from the fact that this is a gorgeous and intensely immerse game with thought provoking story telling, over 30 different endings you can get and hundreds of hours of content.
    For what it is.

Honestly I was a little worried as I like quality over quantity and find that more linear RPGS have better story telling and story lines along with better questing and quests compared to more open world RPGS and all the boring and pointless side quests but Witcher has managed to do it right and include some of the story telling telling and quality quests of more linear RPGS into an openHonestly I was a little worried as I like quality over quantity and find that more linear RPGS have better story telling and story lines along with better questing and quests compared to more open world RPGS and all the boring and pointless side quests but Witcher has managed to do it right and include some of the story telling telling and quality quests of more linear RPGS into an open world setting. Honest it takes the best of some past top RPGS and puts it into one great package along with its only great work. You will surely not be wronged if you buy this game and will find plenty to like truly one of the top RPGS of this generation and will be a candidate for RPG of the year and Game of the Year for sure if not winner in one or both of the awards. If you like RPGS this is a must buy and has taken over my game time from playing other great RPGS like bloodborne, dark souls 2 SOTFS, and Dragon Age inquistion. The RPG genre truly has had some great titles as of late and hope to see that continue as I love the RPG genre and and all its newer subsets as of late xD.

Quick advice for anyone having issues starting game, make sure before you start the game to let it fully update the game or you might have an issue starting the game as I found that if you let the game fully update you will not have this problem starting the game but if you try and start the game before or during the updating then game will get stuck at loading screen otherwise no issues to speak of on PS4 unlike issues I have had with getting Witcher 3 to finally run properly on my high end PC but that's whole other platform and not for you to worry about if your playing on console.

Quests, side quests, and other explorable features are fantastic. Graphics are great, but there's a catch. At last a game worth playing on the PS4. You have to be online to play the free downloadable content, otherwise saved games will not load. Otherwise very good.

The Good, cant complain about the graphics. Everything looks amazing. The 24 hr day cycle and weather effdects are so natural. A storm just doesnt come out of nowhere artifically, but you can actually see ome approach and build up. In general the environment is really immersive. I enjoyed the story line, and when i wasnt following it, the side quests never felt like tedious chores to me. Unlike alot of similar games, there always seem to be dull moments where for example you have to kill ten rams or something similar. The world is huggge and there is so much to do. Alot of games claim that decisions you make will affect the world, ive never seen it mote so in the witcher 3. taking on bounties to kill monsters was always exciting, some monsters you will never see if you just follow thr story line, so i recommend doing bounties. There is something rewarding about collecting a bounty on a tough monster after researching its weaknesses and making sure you have the right equipment to defeat it. Even more so when you hang its head from your horse. Speaking of horses, roach your trusty steed is a little fustrating but i have never seen horse riding in a game so well done. Not sure if MGS did it better. I only wish he could jump more naturally.

The combat was challenging at the beginning. I found myself dying alot at the beginning. Once i got used to it though it was just too easy. And thats my only major problem with the game. Combat just becomes so easy that at higher levels when you have more powerful signs and skills you just steam roll everything. Combat became so easy i had to switch to death march ( the hardest difficulty). Eventually, this problem made me not buy the expansion. Once i finished the game i just didnt want to go back and do all the unfinished stuff because it was just too easy. Its sad that levelling was also a problem. I did too many side quests that when i came to catch up on the story it was a piece of cake. Levelling needed to be thought out more.

A score 10/10 means its a perfect game, this has some faults. And while i got a lot of hours from this game, the combat just became so easy that i didnt want to tap into the rest of the game which i hadnt fully explored. What makes up for the combat is the expansive and dynamic world. Hence the score of 9

After i spent around 110 hours in this masterpiece i was finally able to beat the game! I know that i was a bit too late to play this game (almost 2 years) but i was finally able to play it! I have always been a fan of rpgs, i felt in love with games like skyrim and fallout, the freedom and the sense of building your own character and create your story were the highlights in those games, but since the witcher is a rpg were you roleplay as Geralt and not a character that you create i was always with a step back on buying it, but now i have 0 regrets!

Now lets talk about what made me love this game. First of all its characters, never in my life i have been so emotionally connected to fictional characters in video games! I actually cared for Ciri, Geralt, and the fate of his friends! Actually it is the first time in a video game that made me cry, i have never tought that this game was so emotional, especially after you find ciri! The protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, is a wonderful character, i really enjoyed his personality! The world is gorgeous, and huge! The side quests are very interesting and not fetch quests like major open world games, it is not like "go to point A and kill those monsters", the quests are very more complex than that and the decisions you make (that are hard as **** there is no good and evil) have a huge impact in the world! The soundtrack is outstanding, since skyrim that i have not played a game with such a gorgeous soundtrack! The combat system is simple but effective i always loved to rely on my signs like quen and aard! The armors are very well designed!
And now i will talk about some other matters that i didn't apreaciate in this game (that are very few) but enought to not give a 10 to this game. First of all the skill tree, i didn't really liked, i think that we were very limited to just have 4 skills trees, the combat, the signs (my favourite), the alchemy (i didn't apreciated it though :/ ) and general, if we compare it to skyrim this is very limited, but i somewhat understand it since here we play as geralt, a witcher, not some mage, thief, assassin etc. And the other factor is that it wasn't very natural to me to been doing the side quests and play gwent since we were on a desesperate mission trying to find Ciri, so it means besides the importance of Geralt task to find Ciri he always had some free time to collect some cards or do some monster contracts. xD

In the end it was such an amazing experience, after i beat the game i felt such an emptiness inside because i was really going to miss Geralt adventures and his pals Dandelion and Zoltan, i think that i will starT reading the books to envolve even more in this lore! One of the best Rpgs that i have ever played, in pair with Skyrim ( diferent games but both amazing!), congrats to CdProjeck Red for making such a masterpiece! Next station: Cyberpunk 2077 :)

My god, the main story in this game is likely the best written in any game, period. I was hooked at the early steps of the game, but the Baron storyline sucked me in like a promiscuous black hole. This is the first time, I'd like to say ever, when I wished I had made different choices in a video game, and actually felt feelings. Not ashamed to say, but there were tears…

Gwent, best mini game ever embedded in any game, period. When someone says it's the small things that count, they mean including Gwent as part of Witcher 3. I've spent countless of hours slapping cards with people ranging from inn keepers to royalty, and I'm not going to stop until I'm done. What I'm now hoping for that down the line there will be a DLC that expands Gwent to some new unimaginable dimensions. What was I going to say…. Right! Gwent is pretty good.

Well, there are still some glaring issues touched in my original review. To this date, the game has crashed on PS4 upwards to 10 times. In bigger cities, the loading times are so bad that a dialogue option doesn't pop up in time, and that merchant you're so willing to save is beaten to death before your eyes. Controls work the best if you just spam X, and run around like a headless chicken while looting. Swimming is equal to water torture. And so forth… It's not a finished game, in my opinion.

I also do not really like the battle system that much. At the beginning, it was challenging, but once your gear and skill improves, battles become quite trivial. One reason for this is the skill tree. There is a very obvious "best solution" to enhance your combat abilities. It really is a no-brainer later in the game, and The One strategy for upgrading skills takes much of the challenge out from fights.

Second thing about the battle system is that there is at times very little control over the character and camera movements. Particularly in tighter spaces. I've somehow managed to kill griffins without ever actually seeing the monster, if that gives you any idea…

Side quests, yes, there are a TON with capital all letters. However, going through all the locations and side quests becomes quite repetitive after a while. Fair enough, there are only so many things anyone can do, and only so many ways of how to make them interesting, but riding through a bog for the 50th time to search for a body and blood tracks is not my cup of tea. I'd rather play Gwent at an inn.

(Second) Final verdict: As an RPG, this game is a master piece. Despite the annoying bugs and plagues of all RPGs of massive scale, no self-respecting gamer can miss this title. This is the first game since vanilla WoW that has sucked me in so badly that I just have to play to the wee hours, and do just "one more quest". Fantastic work.

    ******Original Review********

Close, but no cigar. A few hours in, what can I say about this game? I had high hopes based on all the hype surrounding this edition in the Witcher saga, but let's be honest here for a second: It's not a finished game.

    [deleted for exceeding character limit]

Final verdict: If you're willing to put up with the bugs, controls and out-dated graphics, buy it. The story is compelling and the world is big. But, I would wait a few months for patches to start rolling up so the obvious problems don't spoil the experience.

As an example, early on in the game you encounter a Lord who seems fair and just in his encounter with a peasant. You even have the option to defend him in conversation soon after, only then to remeet him and realise he's a complete Tool. It made me realise how many open world RPGs give the player the option of being the Hero or villain in their own story, while making the assumptions upon the world they explore based on very little of what is said. In the Witcher 3 the game punishers you for being naive or quick to conclude opinions. Unlike DA Inquisition, peasants dont cheer you but hate you and you are alienated by all fractions. This to me makes it a very unique style of RPG in that you are out for yourself far more than other games - that said I'm only 10% into the game, who knows what turns may come.

Shame on those rating this game 0 or 1 ... it's ridiculous to give such a heavy-weight RPG such a low rating, when the graphics, sound, world design, combat and lore is all excellent, really, almost perfect. Anyone reading and thinking of buying - I've hesitated for a few weeks, but now I'm delighted that I got it. Another huge RPG to get my teeth into over the coming months.

The only reason I've not rated this a 10 is that I'm a tart for character creation. IF the story allowed for a unique Witcher to rise up, or even started with a prelogue training a character up, it would be an easy 10. Small thing I know, but it does make this game just shy of perfect imo

    That's it.

There was a negative aspect of the game sure, but to over look every thing else this game provides for something most, if not all games have issues with; is ridiculous.

I haven't played any other Witcher game so i cant say what they improved on.

Camera? Combat? I haven't had a problem with any of these things.
-Annoying dorky voice- i have played demon souls, dark souls, dark souls 2, monster hunter since psp to recent 3ds, -normal voice- and the **** Arkham series.
In comparison to these games........Witcher has both a challenging combat system and smooth camera control.

"ROLL ROLL ROLL" is what most reviewers are saying about the game. No, you still get hit from rolling uncontrollably that's why there's an option to actually dodge/parry which is honestly more rewarding than rolling. I dont know how the game plays on Easy but that COULD be the reason why people who say they've played " dark souls...etc" say its "easy, annoying or boring."

The game plays more like a realistic open world game. Locations don't have level restricted monsters, you have to prepare for everything from bombs to concoctions or skills (level) and equipment.

Its fun, diverse, challenging, immersive and lastly gorgeous.

I would rate 10/10, but loading time really bothers me :-/ .

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
