In the attempted process of asserting itself as a thesis on hate, this installment unfortunately only succeeds in displaying the shallower and all-too-familiar tenets of aggravating pacing and moral and emotional pedantry. The characters in this game (both new and old) morph jarringly from familiar and honest depictions of themselves into the clumsy caricatures into which Naughty Dog has shaped them; it seems not even the flawless performances by its triple-A cast could offset the disappointment of watching a beloved character act as though their scenes exist in a vacuum. The player is constantly subjected to the self-sabotaging efforts of the protagonists and antagonists alike, as each seemingly (but defensibly, given the pace of the game) forgets why they have made their own decisions. Here the studio suffers from the juvenile mistake of superimposing their priority of telling a story over the character's validity; the main characters all-too-frequently appear not as interesting players in an enthralling narrative, but more as commissioned actors under strict instruction to stick to a script that lacks focus or direction. Simultaneously, in a half-baked yet fully committed effort to elicit a response, the studio makes several bets with the player before investing exclusively on those least interesting among them: we are introduced to several original, intriguing subplots, only to be assigned exclusively to the one-dimensional and utterly unlikable main antagonist. The justifications for her exaggerated role in the story inevitably fall flat, resulting in the unanswerable questions of why such a cookie-cutter villain should take up so much of the story. There is simply not a satisfactory reason for the sustained presence of this character in this game.

The gameplay itself offers the most consistent alleviation of what is otherwise a flawed and dissatisfying experience. Several adaptations both major and minor were made to the already-solid control scheme and general layout of the preceding game, which make the combat encounters and exploration in this game feel much more thrilling, challenging, and realistic. The added maneuverability of being able to crawl, climb, and squeeze through tight spaces undoubtedly allows the player to experience much of the panicked, adrenaline-fueled momentum of the game's various skirmishes. Nevertheless, each perfectly-executed scene is tainted by the overhanging knowledge of how unrewarding the game is capable of being whenever there isn't anything to shoot at. Interlaced between what appear to be earnest attempts to ignore the tonal appeal of the series, the story occasionally delivers the promised peerless cinematic triumphs of which this game is clearly capable; when the script backs away from the opportunity to needlessly moralize and vapidly entertain to instead focus on the characters and how they would legitimately interact, the award-winning merits of the writers, actors, and animators shine through. Unfortunately, that ray of hope is too often strangled by the script's demands for misbegotten nonsense as opposed to thoughtful progression: if you are hoping for a cohesive narrative from this game, you are much better off sticking to the trailers.

If Naughty Dog had managed to tell a sensible, compelling story as a reward for the fans who have waited so long to hear it instead of prioritizing the cheap shock value this game is powered by, then the considerable improvements to gameplay as well as the depth of the emotional potential of the narrative would have made this the masterpiece that fans deserve. It is truly a shame that instead we have instead been distributed such a careless, disingenuous installment.

Before the game came out, they made an interview where someone, the co-director, i think or even Neil, said ''you dont need to kill any dog, you can avoid it'' , well that was a lie, i would ask a REFUND for this if you dont like any of that.

    MAJOR Spoilers below

Moving to the game, besides Joel's decisions not making any sense when he was alive or Ellie's decision at the end by not killing the villain bcs ''OH MY GOD, Joe- oh well... that took 1 sec but now i remember, revenge bad'' was stupid after the fact she kills hundreds of people that werent involved with Joel's death directly, if she thought she ended a revenge cycle, well.... BAD NEWS, those people she killed have probably friends that would do the same thing as her, so A POINTLESS and DUMB decision, which is the fault of the writer of the game.

Another thing i want to criticise is WHY would Neil want to self insert to spit on Joel's dead body and having sex with the villain + having a card where he thinks he is smart.
It just made me think that there was some **** message against the fans of the 1st game or even the ex-writers, it was disrespectful.

The only thing i can praise is the graphics and gameplay, so congrats for those that worked on that section, NOT the writers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

After a seven year wait this is what naughty dog gives it’s devoted players, a game that essentially beats every aspect of what everyone loved about the original to a bloody pulp, and then proceeds to spit on it. However the graphics, landscapes and generally game design are very good, I just wish they weren’t wasting on such a piece of awful storytelling. To wrap this up, the game upon finishing left an awful taste in my mouth, very similar to the feeling I had while watching films such as alien 3 and terminator dark fate. Then again I think even that would be giving it to much credit. Expand

Imagine a third of the John Wick movie following the guy who killed his dog and the director trying to make you feel sympathy for him with lazy storytelling. Then at the end of the movie John Wick decides not to kill him for no reason at all. That’s TLOU2 in a nutshell. An utter travesty and desecration of the characters we all loved. Zero character development, forgettable characters, massive plot holes, unbelievable decisions, and lazy storytelling. Grade A garbage! 0/5

The only reason all of the media and journalists gave this game perfect reviews was because they would be blacklisted if they didn’t and their wallets depend on licking the boot of fallen developers like Naughty Dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll be talking about actual spoilers in the last paragraph. The rest of this review is spoiler free. This review that will be ignoring the so-called SJW/woke/whatever stuff. I know that can be divisive, so I'm leaving that out, and I think there's enough I can talk about without mentioning that.

To start out, they basically pull a GOT finale and give Joel and Ellie the Daenerys treatment by having them do things that are completely against what their characters have been established as. And they not only do it once, but three times, some worse than others.

That's before we even get to the company side of things. If you want to skip the company stuff, skip this paragraph. Normally I wouldn't include this in a review of the game itself, but I think it warrants mention here since many people are protesting the game because of Sony and Naughty Dog's behavior, such as the hostile workplace they've created and the blatant DMCA abuse when it's completely unwarranted. Some people literally only voiced their negative opinions of the game without showing ANY part of the game, and still got DMCA'd, which can take away people's ability to stream which is a huge source of revenue for some, essentially putting some streamers out of business for their opinions, and the fact they allowed a full blown and very revealing sex scene in TLOU2 while heavily censoring anime games (some with the same rating as TLOU2) months earlier for just being skimpy. There's also the blatant false advertising, such as them putting a fake scene in the trailer where Joel says to Ellie "you thought I'd let you go alone?" which doesn't actually happen.

From a gameplay perspective, there's no to little improvements over the first TLOU, so some people think it feels stale. I will be fair and state that TLOU wasn't really known for its gameplay, but rather its atmosphere and story. The only positive it has going for is the graphics. So assuming you review it evenly based on graphics, gameplay, and story, giving each a 33% weight, it makes sense the game is getting 3's and 4's out of 10. If you weight the story itself more heavily, it still comes out about the same. It's a visually stunningly beautiful game... But that's about it.

Spoiler section: The three instances of them pulling a GOT finale are these: Joel walking into a house and randomly announcing who he is, Ellie suddenly deciding to stop her quest for vengeance at the end, and Joel being the catalyst for her stopping. Most people who review this are so outraged by Joel's death that they fail to notice that they spit on his character more than once. Joel is merciless, mistrustful of others and outright says he would kill all the fireflies in the hospital all over again. He doesn't care who dies or who he kills. As such, it makes NO sense for him to walk into a room and announce who he is. It makes NO sense for Ellie to stop her quest of revenge, and it makes NO sense for the flashback of Joel to be what stops her since we damn well know he would have killed Abby without a second thought. And why the hell would you decide vengeance is bad only when reaching your final target and not stopping when you had to kill dozens of people OUT OF VENGEANCE to reach your target? And about Joel's death, I know in reality people often die unceremoniously, and their deaths are often underwhelming. Neil Druckmann outright said this game isn't supposed to be fun. But this is a video game. Video games are within the category of entertainment, a prerequisite of which is fun. So why would you make a game that isn't fun? Joel is a beloved character by the fans and he simply deserved better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. -I am at a loss with this game. From the written butchering of everything I loved about these characters, to the actual butchering of the characters I loved, to the complete loss of direction story-wise after the first hour of gameplay. What happened in the nearly decade long development of this game? Were all the original writers fired? Or were they overwritten by one man who thought he knew best, leading to a final season Game of Thrones situation that completely erased everything good that came before it.

-Visually and audibly stunning, but devoid of anything resembling a redeeming quality beyond that. It is not only baffling but cruel to force the player to interact with what was a vibrant world through Abby, a character who's backstory and motivations feel hastily put together 10 minutes before the game was supposed to be presented as complete, after watching her brutally murder the arguably most complex character of the series, who was the main draw for players of the first game.

-As for the LGBT themes that everyone seems hung up on. As any actual member of the community will tell you, if it's being forced this hard, you're probably faking it for the clout. Anyone with minimal skills of observation could tell that Ellie was likely lesbian from interactions and conversations in the first game, especially after the heavy obviousness that came in the DLC. So to overplay it and make it a constantly recurring theme and focus seems obtuse and forced. A person's sexuality is organic and who they are, not an add on that exists as a parallel to them.

-Conversations felt unsettlingly robotic at times, there was no driving force to connect with any new characters, who presented themselves more as paper cutout stand ins rather than new opportunities for connection and emotional exploration.

-Mechanically it was polished if unimaginative, drawing on expanding the capabilities of the platform on hardware level, and it shows how much focus that drew due to the complete and utter lack of any human connection anywhere in the game.

-TL;DR This sequel is the runny disappointing sh*t after the best thanksgiving dinner of a first game you've ever had. Even the most highly polished turd is still a pile of sh*t. Flush and forget.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can't tell you what to feel, and you shouldn't let other people tell you either. This is a game you need to play with an open mind, especially if you played the first one. I'm here to tell you to form your own opinion and thoughts without listening to the heard. I'm not here to form your opinion, but one thing is for sure - it's worth the playthrough.

As expected the visuals are stunning all the way. With 7 years on the last game, this one has even improved visually, which is saying alot.

The characters seem well thought out and developed - in world like this, perfect is a word you would never use to describe any person in the game. It's easy to hate a character you don't care about, even if they survive and live the same way as the character you like. It's a complicated story and needs critical thinking to be understood for what it is, no matter the emotion you might feel.

The gameplay is intense and dark, but it has some really nice moments. Remember Joel saying along these lines in the 1st game: "no matter what, you always find something worth fighting for". Although not uncommon in these types of games, this is something you really see in this game. Emotions run high and the stress levels stay peaking. Never a dull moment.

The game also feels like its tweaked perfectly from the first one. Enemies are more personalized and
advanced. It sort of feels like Naughty Dog fullfilled wishes I didn't know I had in that sense. Some aspects feel more realistic and you feel more agaile as you're playing. This game is also very accessible, which is awesome! Also, hats off to Naughty Dog for showing gay characters!

Playing this game was a wonderful rollercoaster of a journey. The thoughts I have collected over the past 7 years about what the game might be didn't matter once I started. I would never be mad at them for not making what I had hoped or made up in my head, because it is a good game. At the end of the day, you have to see it for what it is, not what you want it to be.

I would recommend altering your mindset if your going in with certain expectations, people need to realize they're not the ones making the game. If you don't like the story, that is your opinion. But please, for the creators and yourselves - give the game a fair chance. It's not **** You might not like it, but that doesn't give you the right to tell people not to buy it or say it garbage. Your opinion is simply yours, and should not ruin for others. No one is forcing you to like it, don't let people make you hate it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To start off, this game only gets points because of the graphics which are amazing, and the gameplay which builds upon the first one. That being said, it breaks my heart to say that this game sucks as far as story. I hated the way Joel died when I’m fact the selling point for me was that Joel seemed like he was going to be in the game so much more in the trailers. Then having the game force you to play as the antagonist Abby (the one who did it) made me hate it even more. At the halfway point when I started playing as Abby I immediately quit, then later started playing again to get the hopefully one part over with Until I realized that this would be the rest of the game. I did not care about her point of view at all because I found myself asking “is it over?” After every segment. After her gameplay I wanted the game to be over after having like 2 more hours of gameplay (a false ending) Then to have everything happen all for nothing was probably one the biggest gaming disappointments of my life. No exaggeration. Do not buy this game. It felt like a chore to finish this game and I only felt obligated to because I spent money on it. Biggest waste of time and money ever Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The worst thing about this game is the story and pacing. The graphics and sound effects are great but the story makes it hard to enjoy the gameplay especially when it cut to flashback after flashback that you have to play through and you are forced to play as the one who killed Joel. It wasn't fun. I am in my 2nd playthrough and I thought it would be enjoyable this time because I already know the story but unfortunately it isn't.

I will think again before buying this game because Ghost of Tsushima and Cyberpunk 2077 are on their way and you might enjoy and have fun with these games more than a game that was design to disturb you and punish you for loving the main characters of the first the last of us game. it really drains you and sucks the life out of you.

I’m lucky to have been able to sell it a little cheaper quickly, I am so disappointed. Yeah and please never believe to the critics. Graphics-ok, I liked

Even I felt repulsed because I had no discriminatory thoughts about PCs.
It was an attitude to teach with a sense of moral superiority, but it was not that high, and it felt like I was forced to continue eating uncomfortable food.

Basically, the last of us Part 2's sense of subject or story is not very unconventional. Rather, it's more like a cliche.
What was the reason for showing an obvious story through unpleasant plots and directing?
I have no idea what the benefits of him are.
Regardless of the unpleasantness of the PC or story, the composition itself seems to have dropped.

I think Star Wars : the last Jedi and the sequel to the masterpiece can be a challenging choice. It would have been a more destructive story if it had done well because the return was a bold but big approach.
But it failed miserably in an unconvincing way.
Shouldn't we focus first on showing the game to the public as a culture and art and enjoying it? It is too irresponsible to draw only the pictures they want.

Is there anyone who made this fun?
Especially for people like me who have deep memories of their previous work...
To be honest, it was more like a last of Earth sequel.
It was a series of inconveniences while playing games.

I advise you not to do it for your mental health.

If this would have been just a random game it might have earned a 6 out of 10 for the effort and for trying, but for what naughty dog was able to deliver in the past, this feels like they didn´t care at all about the story or the characters of the first game. This game is just nice to look at but you have to be able to completely shut down you brain, not know or not care about the first game and just want to enjoy stunning graphics. The writing in this game feels like a low budget teenage high school soap opera. The graphics are sadly so good that you can see bad acting, and I don´t want to say the actors are bad, but the characters and dialogs really just feel shallow and are surly directed by someone who doesn´t have contact with a lot of real humans. Most of what happens, happens because of unbelievable coincidences (also called bad and lazy writing) and almost nothing that the characters do is relatable or even just true to how you know them from the first game. This truly is "Game of Thrones Season 8" Naughty Dog style mixed with "Terminator dark fate" with the twist that they try to make you sympathise with the Terminator who killed John Connor for 10 hours, but giving you nothing to be able to. I could go on for days but overall: if this game was made to make gamers feel stupid for caring or trying to bond with video-game characters and showing them that playing games is a waste of time, then the message was delivered 10/10! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a masterpiece and the leak destroyed it.

I don't want to go into too much detail about the graphics, the world or the stunning level of detail, because literally every area, every shot, every plant in post - apocalyptic Seattle feels unreal. This game is something else. I bet in at least a year on from now people will upload Yt - vids like: TLOU2 , better than you think" or something like that.

It is the leak that ruined the *hype* around this game, but not the game per se. At this point, I would like to mention, that a lot of the spoilers and rumors I heard prior to the release were straigth up fake.

To 100% confirm this: Ellie doesn't die, Abby is not transsexual, you do play as the killer of Joel in this game but the way this sentence is formed is simply flawed. When I heard about playing as Abby, I thought that the player has to kill of Joel, which, surprise surprise, is simply not the case. The story is absolutely beautiful, brutal when it needs to be and the epitome of bittersweet. There is not one other game I can think of, that made me feel the way i felt during the credits. Mesmerizing.

My main problem are the people that simply won't play the game because of the leak, or who hate it, but for the wrong reasons.

I've seen more than enough "Joel died, so I won't play this game" - arguments prior and after the release. Well ok, Joel was definitely a great character, but his death is ... natural in a *post - apocalyptic* world. Whenever I hear something like that, I like ot think of the prequel. Who was the villain in TLOU1? Was is Tess, Bill, Sam, Joel, the fireflies? No, there was no villain, just like there was no true "hero".

In addition to Joel's death, there are a lot of people upset of Ellie not killing Abby in their last showdown. But again, why should she? Because she travelled aaaall the way to California to kill her? Remember in the first game, where Ellie and Joel travel across the entire continent, just to get to the fireflies and Joel NOT wanting to sacrifice Ellie for a cure, which was his original mission after all?

"Abby is buff, I do not like it". Again, post - apocalyptic world, where you fight for your survival + living in a military - esque group with a ton of resources + wanting to take revenge so much so, that you sacrifice an idyllic life with the love of your life makes your pretty buff I guess.

"Ellie should have killed her, because she definitely could not let go of Joel" - I think it is pretty evident, that Joel wanted only the best for Ellie, there is no room for arguments here. But this also includes letting go. Do you think Joel would be happy with his life, if he had never let go of Sarah? No. The same thing goes for Ellie and Abby.

"The message of this game is way to obvious, revenge is bad". Is it though? I did not get this impression (actually, I did, but I would not consider this the main message). For me, TLOU2 was about growth. Sometimes, this growth manifests itself in emotional maturity (letting go), sometimes in physical improvements ("the buff lady scares me"). Revenge definitely plays a major part in the game, but it is not the only message this game tries to convey, by far not the only one. With the hatred that both of them experience, they become way to hardheaded, only focused on their plans and motifs, while ignoring the people around them. (Kinda like those people who did not actually play this game, but still write reviews because they heard it sucks).

"Playing as Abby is dumb" - It is pretty clear, that they are both sides of one and the same coin, so why not try to embrace her story aswell? She lost her father, the love of her life, a partner, a pregrant friend and also a dog. She has every right to feel the way she feels and her wanting to kill Joel is not "stupid", it is what the first game taught us, quite literally: You kill in order to preserve what you love.

If you did not like the game, that is absolutely fine. But to trash it with garbage arguments is simply wrong. It is very polarizing, ND definitely created SOMETHING here. But this something is the best thing I have experienced in a looong time from an industry that is notorious for in - game purchases while still demanind 60 to 70 bucks for the "whole" game, pumping out sequel after sequel of the same, god damn game every **** year, and relatively poor story writing (i.e. everything is black and white) for the majority of games.

TLOU2 is a breath of fresh air, that demands YOU to think a little bit about your actions and consequences, while still delivering a solid combat and stealth system, a more than brilliant performance from the actors (especially Ashley Jenkins, who portrayed Ellie so amazingly) and a game that makes you FEEL something.

This game is definitely game of the PS4 - generation.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game doesn’t understand its players. It’s focus is directed more towards sending a message than it is to telling a story. The ending feels like a punch in the face. You’re telling me that Ellie kills hundreds of «bad guys» who have families (and dogs) and feelings and still she just lets Abby go? Ellie didn’t realize beforehand that Joel wouldn’t want Ellie to waste her life?

Everything that made the first game so amazing is just gone from the second game. The 10 hour long journey to make us understand Abby just left a sour taste in my mouth. It felt like a bad DLC and I was constantly waiting for it to end. Besides, Abby was a spiteful and bad person. Her dad was about to kill a 14 year old girl, and she doesn’t understand why Joel would defend that girl? Her dad even expressed uncertainty when faced with the question of what he’d do if it was Abby who was immune, and still she doesn’t understand why Joel did what he did? Mel was right, Abby is a piece of ****

I could rant forever about how bad and disappointing this game is, but the game doesn’t deserve my time. Words can’t describe how bad this game is, but numbers can. 0/10

Seriously: If you plan on playing The Last of Us II avoid spoilers! It will ruin this amazing experience for you. You still might not enjoy this sequel in the end, but this game derves an "open-minded" and unprejudiced approach.

(I'm not a native, so please excuse my English)

To begin with I want to thank Naughtydog for both The Last of Us and The Last of Us II as these games have touched me and made me tear up like no other game. I do not think that you deserve all this hate. You have put together an amazingly well crafted, detailed and emotional game. Now there is some valid critissism to this game, it is far from perfect (but than again what game isn't), which I will adress later. As I mentioned the The Last of Us series is extremly emotional so I really wasn't suprised that the sequel to one of the most beloved games turned out to be this controfersial and polarizing. This game will make you feel uncomfortable, this game will make you furious and this game might even make you grief but that's what makes it uniquely emotional (at least for me)! Don't get me started on homphobic and hateful comments, but fortunately this is only a (very loud) minortity. Nevertheless these comments have to be adressed and condemned!
Just to get this out of the way: I can 100 % understand if you did not enjoy the game, this is not a guaranteed 10/10 game. This game is extremly controversial, as your experience will largely depend on how you fell about Joel's death, you having to play as Abby and the character's "experimental" development. Will you get snapped out of the story and remain mad at the developers or will you be abel to lose yourself in the story anyways? Well to be honest whilst playing the game I sometimes also felt conflicted about the choices that were made. But ultimately I accepted the coices and had my most immersive gaming-expierence ever, which propably would have not been as easy if I hadn't avoided spoilers. So as I said I do respect if you didn't like the game, but at least give Naughtydog credit for the amazing production value and all the work that has been put into the game, it's not a 0/10 game.

But now let's get to the point. What did and didn't I like about the Last of Us II:
    (+) Emmersive world
    (+) Emotional and innovative story
"If I ever were to lose you, I'd surly lose myself"
After losing Joel Ellie was taken the chance of forgiving and making things right with Joel, which is not only extremly depressing from Ellie's point of view but also for the player himself. We immediately feel fury and anger arising, we want to do Joel justice by killing Abby. But as the story progresses we have to witness that the Ellie we learned to love is slowly alienating from herselve. She is on the verge of becoming another humanlike, murdering monster roaming the post-apocalyptic world. Once it was Ellie who reminded Joel of the beauty and innocence in the world now she is the one "descending into hell". Again and again do Ellie and Abby meet but Ellie never gets the chance of taking revenge. It isn't until the end that Ellie has Abby's life "hanging by a threat". But in that very moment her last moments with Joel came to her mind, moments not filled with hatred but with forgivness. Ellie lost loved ones, she abandoned family and home, she brought suffering into the world but she has not fully lost herself. A small part of her did not fall victim to her vengefulness, she did do Joe right in letting humaneness prevail over hatred.
The Last of Us II was a challenge indeed. Was I myselfe able to overcome my grief and forgive Abby? Lukily Yes. Do I understand it when people have a problem with this game? Absolutly! Did I expect this game? No! Did I want this game? No! Do I whish the Story had turned out differently? Yes! Do I wish Ellie had crawled back into bed with JJ and Dina? Of course! But was this the most emotional gaming-expierence I ever had? Most definitly!
    (+) Improved gameplay
    (+) Amazing graphics
I think this is something we can all agree upon. This game is simply gorgeous. Whether you're looking at snowy landscapes, rainy Seattle or Ellie's and Dina's fairytale-like farm it will leave you breathless.
    (+) Outsanding level-design
(+) The last of us is as charming as ever
Did anyone not have a big smile on his face whilst playing the Joel and Ellie flashbacks or as we first explored the streets of Jackson or as we realized Ellie and Dina had started a family together...?
    (+/-) Joe's death feels rushed
    (+/-) Sometimes feels emotionally manipulative
    (-) Too much looting
(-) Sometimes overdramatic and lessing subtle
In conclusion The Last of Us II is, in my opinion, a well crafted, extremly emotional and human, inperfect non the less, masterpiece. It left me crying, raging, griefing and blissfully smiling. Simply amazing!
    Thank you Naughtydog!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a masterpiece, never before has a video game had me so torn between different emotions.

I’m sad that Joel was killed off and the way he was, but he was no hero himself and the narrative of the story is how violence breeds more violence. The fights between Ellie and Abby had me killed a couple of times just because of my hesitation to not wanting to harm either of them. I for one love the fact a game can do this to me.

The gameplay is much the same with several slight improvements but I like the game mechanics anyway as they suit a survival horror.

It seems you will either love or hate this game due to the nature of Joel’s death and playing as Abby but you will just have to try it for yourself.

In the words of Gandhi “An eye for an eye will make the world blind”. I think the story plays along this narrative beautifully and you must play the game to the end to appreciate.

    Can’t wait for Part III

I have to say, I’ve played through the entire storyline and as of this review I plan to do a second play through of the game.

The game takes place a couple of years after The Last of Us 1 and moves forward with Ellie and Abby through their quest of bloody revenge and tears. Starting off with graphics I have to say this game is by far one of the best, prettiest, jaw dropping games I’ve ever played! And I’m not kidding- from the nature to the snow to the beaches to abandoned cities, you’ll appreciate every detail that you see.
Overall I have to say that I very much loved the graphics of this game and if you plan on picking it up, man oh man you should definitely pick up a headset too.

The audio is so damn good in this game! The sounds of the infected really got my heart racing. Hearing a zombie in a dark room or having someone set off a bomb sounds oh so good! The audio is such a masterpiece! The soundtrack? Man does it immerse you and have you feeling like you’re in the scene. From being chased down by your enemies; locked in a room with the zombies; or just enjoying a nice hike through the nature trails, the audio is so beautiful and vibrant and I just have to say thank you Naughty Dog for that. But I can’t say that for combat, especially in certain areas. The game seems to be a stealth type but sometimes forces you to do hand-to-hand andor full on face-to-face combat, which I love. It is sometimes odd and did throw me off and frustrate me a bit. Gun play is a little odd and can sometimes be annoying just like hand to hand combat. I found this to especially be true with the bow. There were times I would make a perfect head shot but end up only alerting the enemy. Very annoying. I feel like the aiming mechanic was a little rusty and could have been worked on a little bit longer. Playing hide and go seek with your enemies is sometimes frustrating as well, especially if you’re not quick on your toes (I can be the slow type, myself). Hand to hand combat sounds pretty rough in a post apocalyptic game and you get that here. Hand to hand combat or using a blunt or sharp object to kill your enemies is quite awesome; seeing you literally beat the person down seems so realistic. Not to sound like a psycho or anything! I just appreciate what they did there and I feel like they worked on that a lot more than the gun play. Overall, the stuff in the game is quite the same as the first game.

Quick little sidenote: Character development here is a thing and I appreciate that. I’ve seen that some people find issue with it, but I give them an A for effort!

The Last of Us Part Two is a pretty lengthy game that offers two sides of the story instead of one. Not a lot of games do that these days. You’ll go on a long adventure with long cut scenes and some annoying decisions but overall this game shows you how dark and cruel this world can be, but at the same time, beautiful. The Last of Us Part Two is a masterpiece by far and I have to say that I will be playing this game again and again through the years to come. I will not forget about it. I highly recommend people pick this up and play it and if you’re skeptical on it wait for a deal to hit the game. But for me, it’s a game that is worth a full $65. I cannot wait for any DLC that might hit in the future. I just want to say to Naughty Dog that I very much appreciate everything that you’ve done and to all of the teams that worked on this game I appreciate everything that you’ve done as well. You have truly made a masterpiece and it will always stay close to my heart. Thank you so much Naughty Dog and keep up the good work. Much love!!!

This game is not for everyone, it is very bleak, intense and even emotionally draining at times. If you played and liked the first one, which was also one of the most intense games there was story wise, you know what kind of story you should expect.

It is a game in which you should really invest time and effort, you should listen to the conversations, read Ellie’s journal, look around and definitely not rush it or play it whilst being distracted.
Graphics and gameplay wise, it’s the smoothest game I’ve ever experienced. It is extremely realistic and makes for an immersive experience like no other. It is extremely polished, and the amount of attention to detail is mind blowing.

The realness of it might scare some away, it is not a cliché good vs bad story, it is not always linear and it explores a lot of tough themes. But overall, that makes its impact bigger than any game I’ve ever played, and it pushes you to new places. So, if you play it you should keep an open mind, and ask yourself why they decided for the story to go this or that way, why you feel this and that emotion and so on. Although most scenes are far from pleasant and it might not be the ending you would want, it makes for a much more real, interesting and raw story. They make you question everything you thought about such and such character, their decisions and actions, they make you empathize with people you never thought you would, and deliver an ending that has many layers to it.
If you want a game that’s all about shooting and killing zombies, this is not for you. If you want a happy ending, more cliché/typical revenge story, this is not for you. If you want something light and fun to distract you this is definitely not for you. But if you want a beautifully layered complex story, that will immerse you to a whole new level, that will make you cry, laugh, be terrified, be angry, be happy; if you want to experience next level graphics and gameplay, if you want to witness insanely good acting, and if you want to test yourself, this is definitely worth it.

This is by far the game that made me feel the most intense emotions I have ever felt in a game before, and for that, I applaud Naughty Dog. They went for it, they went where no one else dares to go, and although not always a comfortable experience, it was one of the most memorable experience I’ve had, and feel very blessed I got to experience it.

Fireflies will have found a new doctor able to create a vaccine.

Good game and amazed at the amount of reviews scores of 0 or roundabout that are posted on the release date. It's a shame, this game is not what I expected with regards the story and I was sad to loose Joel early, but I kept an open mind and heart to the story and thoroughly enjoyed it.

There are many plot holes in the first story too and to name a few - why drive through the town instead of backing up and finding another route even if it means walking - Joel would know what to expect? Joel and Tommy following Ellie's horse track through an enemy compound and she is not attacked or captured but they are attacked by 8 plus enemies? Tommy's compound is conveniently attacked just as Joel is talking about Ellie? Why rush the surgery, a surgeon not bothered about patient consent?

I guess people see through different lenses when upset and I can see and respect why some are not happy with this story line. This game is not a 0 or 2 if you don't like the story because you loved part 1 so much you are offended by the path taken by the writers, just for quality, acting and sound it is a 5 minimum. Good job ND.

I believe the writing, while great, is the weakest element of an otherwise outstanding game. Videogames have a way of making one empathize with a protagonist like no other form of media - you might literally walk a mile in their shoe. Naughty Dog hoped to leverage this for possibly their most ambitious task. For me, they succeeded, but they also attempted to shed light on some fringe themes which felt like the writers might have bit-off a little more than they could chew.

I'd give this game a 9.5 but the scale only allows for rounded numbers so I'll unfortunately round this down to a 9 (10 is reserved for something transcendental, hopefully).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For the longest time, Ive never thought about reviewing games on metacritic, but considering the disgusting attacks on the developers of this game, I decided to help and do a small part to counter balance the bigoted and idiotic reviews that have been amplified by cowardly neo nazis and troll farms. Your lives are absolute jokes, hate speech is not free speech.

So, onto the game itself. Absolutely fantastic, the story was so good, and the depth explored in the relationships of the characters supported the decisions of the characters themselves. At one point I thought that Ellie was not justified in continuing to pursue Abby, yet what followed was a flashback to one of the last interactions Ellie had with Joel, showing Ellie's regret in not communicating how much she cared for him, and hence why she blames Abby for taking that opportunity, and her new found father figure, away from her.

Playing as Abby for half the game was a great change aswell; to see the story from both sides, and help explain Abby's actions and pursuit for revenge. I felt sorry for Abby by the end of course, but I remained team Ellie. I loved the way the lines blurred so much to humanise the choices made by the characters, and to show that neither side was completely "good" nor "bad. The reason I have given a 9 score instead of a 10 is because I found the supply collection mechanic very tedious by halfway through the game. Wandering between different rooms to find any scrap of fabric or random screw became increasingly monotonous, and I also felt broke immersion too (such as any point where the characters were supposed to be in imminent danger, but you would have to spend 10+ minutes looking for supplies).

Apart from that; the combat, the stealth, the upgrades themselves were all fun to practice and build on as the game went on. My favourite part of the whole game was the absolutely terrifying encounter as Abby in the Seattle hospital basement, I absolutely loved it.

Overall, this is an absolutely wonderful game and I highly recommend it to any fan of the first. Until this game's release, I was fully expecting Half Life Alyx to win game of the year awards later this year, purely for the innovation and quality. However after playing the last of us part 2, I don't think the decision will be that clear cut, and either game will be justified in sweeping the board. This is a fantastic game, and I loved every second of it.

A game that I will never forget. It certainly has faults but overall it is an excellent experience which does not deserve the bashing it has undergone. The graphics are incredible and the gameplay is a mix between Uncharted and the 1st game, while improving it. The scenario can be debatable but it is nonetheless striking.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has the best graphics and lighting/shade effects I have ever seen on a console. The story is fantastic, the game play is extremely immersive, and there are numerous jump scares throughout the game. I can absolutely not understand why anyone is panning this game with a 0 or 1 review. It truly defies logic. As I get older I have noticed that games have a harder time capturing my attention than they did when I was a kid. I have spent $60 numerous times on games that I have literally put down within the first half hour of game play. The Last of Us Part II has captured my attention and I am throughly engrossed in the story. The voice acting is great, the game is challenging but balanced. If I had any issues there is a long playable flashback sequence that could have seen shortened a bit (however I did note that it was pretty well done). This game is certain to be a finalist for game of the year and is another incredible Sony exclusive. As I stated earlier, with my limited attention I normally don’t care for a lot of cut scenes, but I find these to be so well done that I don’t have any issues with them. They have all contributed to the story line. This is about as close I have seen to a gaming experience blurring the lines between a cinematic experience and a video game. I haven’t reviewed a game in a very long time, but I felt compelled after seeing people flaming on it in the user reviews. I would hope the poor reviews aren’t because of the sexuality of one of the main characters? Or because the Last of Us II offers up a Game of Thrones-like rip out your heart moment early in the game. If you liked the Uncharted Series or Tomb Raider games I think you will thoroughly enjoy this adventure. It has influences from both, with a story that pays homage to The Walking Dead television series along with some of the stealth type gameplay elements of Metal Gear or Splinter Cell. If you are offended by a lesbian main character or if you will be disappointed that Joel from the “Last of Us” is not the star of the game don’t get it. If you want to play a game that will have you talking about where you would rank it on your all-time favorites list... well then, this one is for you. If I have one complaint it’s that sometimes after a battle you use a med pack just to realize moments later that there is going to be a cut scene and you are going to have your health replenished automatically. This game is truly a masterpiece. The convergence of the main characters through a very ambitious story line has never been done in a game before. It has elements of the movie Pulp Fiction in this respect. The AI is amazing as enemies deviate on their routes when you have replayed a scene several times you will notice. Sometimes they repeat, but it is not a given. I can’t exude enough praise on this title. It is a must own and would find itself firmly placed near the top of my all-time favorites. Expand

Even though hated by many, The last of Us part II is a masterpiece. The story may be terrible for some, but even these people who criticize the story acknowledge that the gameplay and the graphics are completely amazing. The story is not bad, it's really different from what it was expected, but it's still impressive, it has great characters and a worthy finale.
