    Extreme poor writing plagues this game with very uninteresting new characters and shallow character development (both new and old characters) which is all tied together by a generic gameplay
    The graphics are gorgeous, but that is the only good thing about it
    Don't waste your hard earned money on this dumpster fire

    As a big fan of the first game I was really dissapointed with the lazy writing of the Part 2. They managed to write Joel to behave nothing like the original character. He was always playing safe and always keeping the distance to people, because he knew people would come after him and Ellie. That alone breaks my heart as a fan of the original story.

    Ripley from Alien and Sarah Connor from T2 are one of the best action characters in movies. Including both genders. They were great because their stories were written so well. The story and the characters supported each other. This time the characters got in the way of the message that Naughty Dog wanted to tell. It's sad that they sacrificed one of the greatest games to the altar of politics.    … Expand

Se nota que el guión esta hecho en una sola dirección. Complacer los tiempos que marchan, estuve soportando andar de un lado al otro pero en cuanto matan a Joel, el juego acabó para mí, y aparte hacen de mala a ellie y pasas a manejar a abbie la mayor parte del juego, o sea no tiene sentido en la que de repente sus diálogos no concuerdan con lo que se nos presentó en el primero,, yo creo que no estoy preparado para ver este tipo de historias en un videojuego, para eso mejor veo una buena pelicula.… Expand

    Reviewing a sequel is always a bit iffy. I'll try and be fair here though.

    In terms of story, it feels undercooked. It feels like they had ideas, but couldn't decide the best way to implement them. A scene happens very early in the story (we all know which I believe), which feels haphazard and rushed. It feels like shock for shocks sake. We all knew something like this was likely to happen, it very well could've worked, but again, it was executed very poorly. The choices of story afterwards don't get much better. It's a perfect example of "what could've been". The characters could've been more fleshed out, the plot could've been given more time to breathe, the pivotal story points could've been given more weight. We see moments of character interaction of old in flashbacks, the entire museum segment is arguably the best in the entire game.

    The character representation has seemingly been crippled by something. Neil Druckmann has made no secret of his intention to include characters of certain groups and orientations. I can't shake the feeling that he's not writing characters at the moment, but caricatures. The LGBTQ+ characters are largely made to be unlikeable. Which seems strange coming from a Naughty Dog game. The track record of likeable characters from this developer is well known and highly lauded, and rightly so. It does beg the question of what the intention then was. Because it seems to be to make everyone, including the LGBTQ+ characters as unlikeable as possible.

    The gameplay is improved from the original, nothing to write home about but there is improvement there. The graphics as expected from ND are impeccable.

    My recommendation would be to buy this on a heavy sale. This game being a ND game had a lot of expectation on it's story. It would seem to me, and clearly a lot of others that they failed here. It is not nearly comparable to the original in any way from a story perspective.

    The characters we knew and loved have been seemingly ret-conned to a point where they appear to be different people with a similar name. The new characters fair no better, if anything, they get it worse, as there's nothing to grab onto and relate to. The originals ambiguous ending has also been changed to a black & white matter as well. Gone is the uneasy feeling of Joels final decision, instead changed to him being the obvious villain of the game.

    I don't know what lead to this outcome, but something changed drastically between parts 1 and 2 development. I would genuinely urge the developers at ND to try and identify this change and make changes for their next project. They can do better than this, they have done better than this. I hope they will do better than this.    … Expand

    A game that is mostly about story and charachters that somehow manages to screw those things up wprse than I have ever seen. It is not entertaining, it is not art, it is not interesting. All it is is a sad attempt to pander towards todays mainstream political agenda and it fails miserably at it

    Never did I think they would do that to our beloved characters from the first game. The second portion of the game becomes extremely mundane and boring and makes you not want to continue. Gameplay was good for the first few hours but becomes boring very quickly. The story was not well written and there was obvious political pandering.

    There's a lot to say about this game but I'll be brief.

    This game had the potential to be 10/10. There were gameplay elements and visuals that would have been stunning if I wasn't so frustrated, angry and despondent.

    The marketing of a game hasn't been so misleading since metal gear solid 2.

Awesome graphics and attention to detail in environments - felt really ripped off that I had to play a character I hated that was not advertised or promoted in any of the trailers. Really misleading marketing.
    I got the platinum and finishing it the second time skipping cut scenes, I finished it half the time. there is too much padding that adds no value to the story or immersion.

    TLDR; Boring. Wait until later to buy it if you haven't already - there has been a record number of trade ins and definitely not the sort of game I would ever play again.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall TLOU2 is an awesome game and definitely worth playing. The story, differently from the first one, is not about hope but hate, revenge and how someone can end up losing everything in the pursuit of it.
    The graphics and the audio are definitely on of the best we can find in the PS4. The game is pretty fun and even though the jump button didn’t add much to the game, being able to crawl and dodge does make the game play way more fun than the previous one IMO.

    The combats are great and the clickers and stalkers will definitely scare the **** out of you.

    The story itself is not bad and the game does give you that rollercoaster of emotions. By the end I could sympathize with Abby and I actually had a lot of fun paying with her. It was a really nice experience being able to play against Tommy and Ellie. I actually admired them more since I faced them as enemies. Their are really tough to beat.    … Expand

Every time it switched to Abby I wanted to turn the game off at the same time Elie wasn't that fun to play with either. by hour 5 I felt like I was just doing chorus and I just wanted the game to be over but I stuck in there to see if this story had anything up its sleeve. At the end of my play threw I really truly wish I just turned of the game at hour 4 and got my money back. It is a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing… Expand

    Now I found myself playing part two just wanting to finish the game so I can get it over with. I’ve waited so long as so many other people for this just to be ruined by one person’s political/morale views.

    STORY: Having Joel die for the sake of plot is such an lazy act of writing. I couldn’t even comprehend it happening while waiting for the game to release. As I witnessed his death I closed open my eyes and I had to takeoff my headphones and cried. I was crying for the fact that I couldn’t believe that this was actually happening I waited for years and supported naughty dog for them to sh** right in my face I balled out crying Knowing that the character i respected died like he was nothing. And for that it killed my enjoyment of the rest of the game. Having this take place in three days adds to the laziness. This game is very similar to uncharted in terms of how “action packed” it is in the span of time. It was very believable that Joe had that many encounters while traveling across America protecting Ellie, now Ellie fights a group of 20 people/infected every 10 minutes and is ready to go go at the next moments notice.

    CHARACTERS:
    I do not care for any of the characters except for Tommy and Eli everyone could died and I wouldn’t blink an eye. Having me play as Joel’s killer felt like I was just spat in the face constantly while playing.I remember tearing up when Tess died I remember tearing up when bills lover didn’t want to be with him I remember tearing up when Sam died and his brother killed himself now I could care less. most characters are cringe or annoying. unfortunately the only non-annoying character is Jesse which people might call me sexist because he’s a male.

    ELLIE: what made Ellie special was the relationship between her and Joel, having the father daughter bond or Having them travel across America and her seeing all these monuments and museums and asking these questions on how things actually were before and Joel knowing and explaining and seeing her in disbelief is what made these two characters solid, now when they go to a Monument, Museum or store they always say the same thing “I can’t believe they used to do this” or “I can’t believe they used to do that” haha hehe humans where weird. Now that the connection is gone I just feel like I have to be forced to care about there funny jokes of the past.
    ABBY: Being FORCED to play as Abby during a big portion of the game was not enjoyable at all. The fact that they made her the “female Joel” made me want to stop playing immediately. combat was fun yes, but I did not want to play as Abby I did not want to see her story I did not want to see her feelings because I did not care. For some reason this game try’s to make you understand her, the only thing I understood Was that she needed to die.

    GAME PLAY:
    Naughty dog always was good with game play, but in this game it waste so much time of you walking around during these “game play” cut scenes, That you find yourself bored and just wanting to get it over with. I’m actually kind of disappointed with some of the variations in game play stealth killing people is the exact same Animation over and over again no matter what character you play which is lazy and boring. I found myself having the same exact death animation as well ; getting shot in the head. I did not die any other way.

    Graphics: Beautiful but wasted.

    This is such a forced game that I hope it bites Neil in his a** this is propaganda at its finest. I was 13 when the last of us came out I DO-NOT care that Eli is the main protagonist, so it’s not me being a misogynist this is Neil being a beta.    … Expand

    Never in my life have I played a game so blatantly motivated by SJW hysteria whilst simultaneously destroying the memory and reputation of a previous installment. Naughty Dog has just taken a huge dump on its fans and made you pay for it too. As long as Neil Druckmann is behind any future games I will not be buying them, what the hell were you thinking Naughty Dog?

    I ignored the leaks and the fuss, I played the game. I am curious about what will actually happen in this game. I followed them, the post-apocalyptic world, the beautiful sceneries, the good musics.....until 5 hours in.

    This curiosity, all ruined by a poorly executed story. I forgot many of these new character's names already.     This game it's a bad copy of The Walking Dead! Abbie it's Negan, Joel dies like Glenn, Ellie it's a female copy of Carl (bad written), and the plot just the same! They forgive Abbie, just like they forgive Negan. AMC-FOX should sue SONY-Naughty Dog for © and intellectual stealing. Don't buy it! Better watch last seasons of the Walking Dead!

Story and writing weakest part and didnt make sense to me. 1/3 of the game had to really force myself to play through for a maybe rewarding ending and just got smacked in the face with dissapointment. In any event, disregarding the entirety of that, which is completely unimaginable because of the game being a story overwhelming true to life experience (a one more moderate paced third individual activity experience with "practical illustrations, which is decisively the main kind of games all in-house Playstation studios can ever make, it appears), the interactivity is additionally more terrible than TLOU 1 now and again.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So let's get this out of the way, the game from a technical and cinematography perspective is just absolutely wonderful. Landscapes are amazing, gameplay is fluid, and sound design is excellent. Am I over reducing major encounters into QTEs? Yes, been over it for a long time. So with all of that, the game is far above a 1 or a 0 simply on the back of its technical brilliance. The rest of the game does its damnedest to try to drag the whole thing to hell though.

    Where the game truly fails is on 1 simple failure of storytelling: you cannot backfill sympathy. The moment that Abby shotguns Joel's leg after he saves her without a second though, my opinion of her crystallizes; especially in a story about revenge. You cannot spend half the game trying to make me care about her and understand her plights and her why after she has already committed the act. Storytelling just doesn't work that way. Maybe my opinion of her shifts if you help me understand her and develop her character BEFORE she kills Joel, but after? No, never going to happen. Same goes with Abby's friends. Most of them, we know that Ellie kills before we get their story, and all of them participated in killing Joel; so how the hell am I supposed to be brought to care about characters who both did the bad thing and I know are about to die? I can't, because the story won't let me even if I wanted to. And I get it, the game is trying to show you how similar Abby and Ellie are and how hatred and revenge is an all consuming flame that begets a cycle of hatred and revenge. I get it, I see what you are attempting to do over there....you just did it extremely poorly.

    Beyond that characters are wildly flat in this game. Ellie is considerably less interesting, Joel...well to be honest basically every second Joel is on the screen are the best character moments of the game which amounts to an hour, Tommy doesn't feel like Tommy and is basically regarded as an off-screen psycho-killer the whole game, Jesse is flat, for the life of me I can't see what Ellie sees in Dina or why Ellie spontaneously falls in love with her, and Abby is hard to judge because I am conditioned to hate her from the moment I meet her and nothing that happens over the course of the game overcomes that initial impression. Abbys friends are all over the map, some more interesting than others, but usually by the time we get to learn who they are on Abby's side we already know they are dead on Ellie's side so what is the point of getting invested?

    It's a story and character driven game and that is where it is a giant letdown. Maybe the score is higher if the first game wasn't so brilliant. It tries to do a similar thing to the first game: take a simple story concept: "dad does anything to protect daughter" for the first and "revenge for killing my dad" in this one, but spin it in a new and interesting way. It fails this time around unfortunately. It really sucks that Joel and Ellie's relationship which was full of complexity and beauty and realism will never touch our screen again. No we the gamers don't trust paid reviews.we will not buy your game!I appeal to Sony to adrees Naughty dog on how they have literally spat on the best farther daughter relationship ever told and replaced with this. Something like this must not happen again to other Sony legends. The gaming community did not ask for this and I'm glad you will lose money.

    Dicho eso los graficos son muy buenos, las mecanicas del juego literal son la mismas que su predecesor, obviamente se ve muchisimo mejor, pero aun asi, este tipo de juegos se juegan por su desarrollo de personajes y la historia, no es un multijugador, la historia esta desparramada por todos lados y no va a ningún lugar, te dicen que la violencia es mala, te obligan a usarla sin darte otra opción, pero luego de esa acción forzada, te intentan reprimir o hacerte sentir mal por hacer eso, cuando realmente ellos te obligaron por no haber otra opción y por darte esa valiosa lección sobre el ciclo de la violencia,hipócritas, total lo único que considero rescatable del juego son los diseños de los niveles, junto con unos bellos paisajes y su buen soundtrack, realmente solo por ese esfuerzo se merece un 3, y creo que es lo mas adecuado eso.    … Expand

    Don't get me wrong, the gameplay isn't bad (it's pretty much identical to the first with a few minor improvements so this was to be expected) and the graphics are great, which you'd expect considering how long it took to make - that's why I'm still giving it 3 points, but in a series that was literally defined by the story, when you take that away you're losing 70% of the game.

    I ask anyone disagreeing to answer this: have you ever heard anyone recommend the first game because of the gameplay or the graphics? Or did you hear them tell you how amazing the story was and how they didn't want to spoil anything for you because it was so amazing?

    The story in 2 is a dumpster fire of trying too hard to be deep. It's a 13 year old emo kid writing bad poetry convinced it's the deepest thing anyone has ever thought before.

Naughty Dog has written the Last Jedi and managed to kill a beloved franchise forever.

    Even worse, the technical merits of the game are arguably not as good as the prequel. The pretty environments feel now like soulless Quixel asset flips, and the game animations are thousands upon thousands of motion capture segments weirdly blended together by something which feels more like an AI than any kind of human-made plan. The end result is something that looks amazing in a static frame or a small motion segment but doesn't feel right or cohesive once you are playing.

    The gameplay has been simplified and dumbed down considerably compared to the predecessor, where it was already thin. Even worse, the changes made are never there to make the game better but to make the developer's job easier. An example is the addition of tall grass as a stealth mechanic, an unwelcome gaming trope that allows them to get away with much worse level design. Multiple issues which were present previously but were unimportant due to the nature of the prequel (inconsistent control response, shooting issues, out-of-control secondary animations getting in the way of your stealth, poor enemy AI, and more), now return but are way more prevalent since the game is way longer, has worse pacing, and the writing is no longer able to carry the weight of the game. It's just a lazy job after lazy job. At the end of the day, this game was not made as something intended to be played, but to be watched. And, since you have zero agency and zero choices during the game, I'd say the optimal platform to play the game is YouTube and not PlayStation.

    The entire game feels like it was made by factory robots, except for the story bits, which seems to be written by an Internet troll instead. It deserves a 0 not only because that's how it will make you feel after trying it for a while, but because this is an extremely dangerous trend which can end up destroying the entire AAA gamespace. Do not listen to the dozens upon dozens of 10/10 'professional' reviews which talk nothing about the game's blatant faults and are nothing more than glorified press releases.

It seemed to me that the game was forcibly stretched and when the control passes to Abby, the charm is completely lost. Other than that I felt cheated! All the publicity was done exploring the image of Ellie and Joel, but Joel is murdered at the beginning and half of the game is played with Abby, including the player is obliged to remove Ellie and space her. I really felt betrayed and dissapointed when I finished the story. The first half of the game was great but who **** thought that players would like to play as Abby for +10 hours? This is Ellie’s story of revenge, not a gorilla girl romantic story. I trully believe that 2 monkeys could have written a better ending to this **** story. I feel that the Ellie we know would have killed Abby the moment she had the opportunity, we do not need this “revenge is bad” **** I **** hated the fight at the theater because I do not want to play with Joel’s killer agains one of the best characters in the game. Joel should have died in a different way, he really looked like a retard compared to what he was in TLOU, he really never trusted somebody but now its different. Abby should have died at the end because what she did to one of the best characters in PS history. The graphics of this game are excellent but Neil Druckmann and the other creative directors MUST be fired after this trash game. They just literally took a dump on what TLOU had built.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Agenda pushing aside, it is truly hurtful the way they treated the characters we grew to love. The only memorable parts of the game were the flashbacks with Joel. They executed those scenes beautifully. It is a horrible story that is standing on the foundation of its predecessor, believing that it has the strength to stand on its own two feet. I mean how can you kill hundreds of people just to let the killer of your best friend go????? Why did she suddenly grow a conscious? Especially for the person who has caused you so much pain? You killed hundreds already? Smh it doesn’t make sense. Teach Drunkman a lesson, don’t buy this game. It truly is a slap in the face, and contains too much symbolism as to how they see the fate of America with their agenda pushing. I left tv to escape this crap, now it’s infiltrated video games.… Expand

However... the characters are disrespected in most aggregating ways, to the point that the adverts for this game are literally lying to you for a sale. The media will have you believe these review bombs are ‘bots’ or ‘toxic anti-LGBT’ men. So let me take my "passionate" feelings as Niel snarked about fans upset about the backlash with the game flooding this site with poor reviews and say my own. I am only giving this game a 2 and not a 0 because of the people who did actually work hard on the game and deserve to be given credit where credit is due. Everything else doesn't really deserve the praise its getting, this is 2020, we are about to go into next gen with the PS5 and XBOX X soon so boasting about "Amazing Graphics!", or "Really Fluid Gameplay!" and "Amazing Battle Mechanics!" mean literally almost nothing at this point in games, those things are expected and done just as good if not better by so many companies nowadays. What we as gamers pay 60-100 dollars for is an amazing story or an experience that we can walk away from when we are done thinking we got our moneys worth...yeah that didn't happen, not even close, I've paid 20 bucks or less for games I enjoyed more than The Last Of Us Part II, this entire franchise is bread and buttered by its narrative, but almost the entire time I was playing it all it did was make me pissed off, not want to play it anymore, or swear I am never buying another game from Naughty Dog ever again. The fact that I felt even one of those things is just beyond sad truthfully, especially following the first game and how amazing it was. If the people making this game cared even for a second about the world they had created, the journey you go on to become a family, make these connections and not about making money and trying to be edgy by putting in a "tasteful" scene which was anything but that and really just made Sony look like a hypocrite, we would have seen another out of the park home run game, but now after playing this I'm just checking twitter every few days to see people change there "story" about how this game really is or see that Niel was forced to take responsibility and let go; for his PR BS-a-thon he went on about so many lies we got told, most of which have been proven like the remapped characters that were teased to have larger rolls :/… Expand

    Waited 7 years. What a disappointment when compared to part 1. I gave it a 2 only because of the good graphics and ellie and joel guitar covers.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
