This game should have been good and i do believe that it is a good game but only if you have not played the first game. The quality of the voice acting is amazing, the graphics (at least on the PS4 pro) are great and i think the environments from the aesthetics of each location down to the environmental storytelling, through notes and such, is done superbly. Hell actually playing the game is quite fun. Where this game lacks is its prime narrative.

    The last of us part two is entirely unfaithful to the characters that were set up in the first game. If your reading this review i am sure you already know that Joel dies. This alone has been a very controversial event and i want to break it down a little bit. People are not angry that Joel is dead. Everyone knew he was going to die, i didn't see any of the pre-release spoilers but i knew Joel was going to die. It makes sense in this world and for his character. the previous title already made it very clear that Joel is a man who has very few moral lines left to cross, who has done things that will mean his hands will never be clean. It makes sense that something from his former years will catch up to him. What has pissed people off is the way they handled his death. I think its very naive of naughty dog to think that killing off one of the most beloved characters in gaming would bring anything but backlash.

    Games are a medium which need to, to an extent, evoke emotion and that is one thing this game dose not lack. I was sad, angry but mostly disappointed that such a massive personality in gaming would be removed in such a half arsed, brutal way that is handled so poorly. Joel as a character that we are invested in deserved a better death that being helplessly tortured in front of Ellie, before having his brains bashed in. So your telling me that the continuation of the story, that literally gave me faith and respect for the artists (Devs) that create in this medium, is over. Just like that. bang! done! That is it. One of the most compelling plot devices and relationships in the whole of gaming is done. And maybe i could have forgiven that. Maybe it could have been a good way to drive us as the player and really, really explore what hatred, anger and revenge will do too someone and the consequences of these actions and at first i thought that, that is where it was going. And to an extent they explored this with Ellie's torture scene and the killing of Mel, Abby's pregnant 'friend', and yes it did go further as you see Ellie after coming back from Seattle is suffering from PTSD but this didn't go far enough in my opinion.

    I think that one of the key failures of this game is that its trying to be this big sweeping narrative where the bad guys can also be the good guys and vice versa but it just dose not work and it falls flat because we as the player do not care in the slightest about Abby and her motivations. i actually thought Abby's motivation was actually handled quite well. i think that this game being so heavily linked to the firsts ending is a very good idea. but once again we don't care about her. It dose not matter how many sad flashbacks there is or how many zebras you save with Abby's dad. The player, especially if they have played the first game, automatically hates her. And the game has the audacity to push into playing as her so you feel some kind of emotional investment in her as a character but by that point its too late. She has already been portrayed as a **** evil, psychopath which if anything is only supported once you have finished her game-play section. In my honest opinion the third and forth acts where you play as Abby are awful and so uninspired.

    Now the ending. Oh my god.
    I wont be commenting on any specifics as the final act of the game was not reviled in the leaks from a few weeks back but all i will say is its **** There is no conceivable reason as to why ellie would act the way she dose at the end and yes i know its a commentary on revenge and how a path of revenge will only lead to your own downfall. Its a play on the saying "If your going on a path of revenge, dig two graves" but i still feel this falls flat.

    Basically i gave this game everything i could. i tried very hard but it has failed. And one of the worst things about it is that it makes you go through a emotional roller coaster with absolutely no reward or sense that the story is finished. the best parts of this game are Ellie's flashbacks with Joel. So my plead to naughty dog is this. De-canonise this game and do one of three things. One: never ever touch this IP again, Neil cannot be trusted to write another of these games. Two: remake it and tell the story how it should be told. Three: if you do make another game set it as a prequel to part 2 because the flashbacks that explore Joel and Ellie's relationship are the only truly good parts of this game.    … Expand

    I want to start off by saying that I am not much of a Playstation gamer, but I played The Last of Us on PS3 and fell in love with the characters and story. I got The Last of Us in the first week of its release, I love post-apocalyptic stories. It was the first playstation game that I genuinely felt a strong emotional connection to and I was so excited when Part 2 was announced. I haveI want to start off by saying that I am not much of a Playstation gamer, but I played The Last of Us on PS3 and fell in love with the characters and story. I got The Last of Us in the first week of its release, I love post-apocalyptic stories. It was the first playstation game that I genuinely felt a strong emotional connection to and I was so excited when Part 2 was announced. I have anticipated this game eagerly for the past 7 years.

    This game takes everything you loved from the first game and destroys it. Not only that, but in order to tell the story in The Last of Us Part 2, the characters are forced into nonsensical and ridiculous situations. They behave entirely differently to the characters you remember from the first game. It reminded me of Game of Thrones Season 8, where characters are forced to behave nonsensically to push the narrative forwards. It is much the same in this game. The new characters that are introduced are utterly unlikeable, no matter how much the game is begging you to like them. As a side note and from a female perspective, I am also fed up of 'strong female character' = 'muscled, unemotional she-man". There are strong female characters that maintain their femininity in gaming such as Ellie in the first game and Lara Croft in the new tomb raider series. Female characters can be feminine whilst still being strong, we don't have to adopt a ton of masculine traits and I wish game developers would realise this. I want to play as characters I relate to and unfortunately the characters completely fail in this game.

    The graphics are stunning, though they have made some character models, such as Ellie, far uglier in Part 2. The gameplay is much the same from the first game. Unfortunately the story makes this game unplayable and left a horrible taste in my mouth upon completing it. I would rather pretend this entry into the franchise doesn't exist and have The Last of Us as a standalone title.    … Expand

Joel dies in the first hour of the game u play 50% of the game as Abby the person who killed Joel. Joel the character we all love die a slow slow and painful death from a golf club. Ellie try revenge Joel the ending is just silly. The ending is that u finally get Abby and u have the opportunity kill the person who killed Joel and not only Joel almost all people u cared and what u do u let this person go. Yes u let the person who take away everything u had everything u love and u keep only this person alive all people who helped Abby are dead but u keep Abby alive. Also Abby bit off 2 of your fingers at the end of the game so that Ellie can't even play her Guitar anymore the only thing she cared about because this guitar is from Joel so Abby take away all happiness Ellie had but Abby can live a happy life now why? Also the gameplay isn't so much better than part 1 and part 1 had a simple mediocre gameplay. So yeah I would give TLOU part 1 a 7/10 and part 2 a 0/10 because the story and characters the things what made TLOU so special are bad awfully written in part 2.… Expand

"Acton sequences" are unnecessarily long, but even when the story time comes, it is hardly rewarding. Some people praise the writing, but I don't see it.     This game, what to I have to say? It's one of the best and most exciting experiences in my life. I never ever played a game like this and felt this feeling about a game. When Joel dies, you think that the game is destroyed, it's not worth playing anymore. But, trust me, you I'll get one of the best experience of your life. The Last Of Us Part 2 shows us that revenge is a fool's game. The Last Of Us Part 2 teaches us that there isn't a good guy or a bad guy, there are people, trying to survive and make the life worthy. If you ask me about the Gameplay, Music, Scenarios, Characters and all that stuff, you will get from me a ton of 10/10, the gameplay is like the first game, with some good improvements. The music by Gustavo Santaolalla is perfect and fits perfectly with the style of the game. Characters may not see quite "good" at first look, but, as the story is been told, you start to love and understand them. The graphics are astonishing, and probably the beautiful graphic of the generation. But, what really catches you is the story. At first you don't understand why to play with Abby, and you become very mad to play with Joel's murderer, but as the game continues, you start to see that Abby is like Joel, a person who is strong, and very mad with everything, and when Lev is introduced, Abby starts to change and become as Joel were in the ending of The Last Of Us. I cried so much when Ellie was trying to play Future Days without her fingers, and when Joel was trying to apologize with her and her was trying to sorry him. It's a very Must-Play game, and I'm sure to say that it I'll be the GOTY 2020. Play The Last Of Us Part 2 now.    … Expand

I am a big fan of the first game as it shows the character growth between these two individual who have lost their faith in the world. How they connect and start to respect and have this care for one another really was amazing to see unfold. Sadly the second game in this franchise has crashed. This is the most visually and best sounding Game I have played on the PS4 let alone any game in recent memory. Ellie’s determination to seek revenge is one a lot of the fans got behind with what unfolded in a certain scene. Sadly the story falls flat and we are expected to play as the character who made Ellie seek revenge. Let alone for 10+ hours as her. In my personal opinion she is the worst part of the game. It feels lacklustre playing as her and trying to get us to feel certain emotions for her just simply don’t work. As a big fan of this franchise I was hoping for Ellie’s and Joel’s story. I did feel for that unfortunate scene to take place in the beginning hours but Joel’s death should of been / meant more. Having his death done the way it was, was unnecessary. It felt like it was only done as a shock value moment. The story could of been amazing and the risks could of been greater. Neil. I don’t know what you were thinking and how you thought this was the correct way to tell such an impactful story but your way off the mark. Do the fans a service and really look into what we all have to say. Fix the ending. Fix the narrative. By the end of the game it all felt pointless. There wasn’t a means to the end. If a third gets made. Maybe take a back seat. I’m sure you are a great and respected person in your industry but don’t spit in the fans face with this story. Maybe look into something like Mass Effect 3 and put out a patch to fix the mess it is currently. A lot could of been amazing in this game but every chance you flipped it and it doesn’t feel deserved for the reasoning.… Expand

    The game is 10/10 in all aspects but the story.. which is truly disappointing since it's the main focus of the game! We get it. every person isn't purely bad or good and revenge is bad but it just feels very heavy handed and forced in. Honestly The flow of the narrative is not natural as the first game!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. gameplay fine nothing new the music, graphics, locations fantastic level design ok in some and others do not some feel too long to the point where I just run through everything till I hit the next checkpoint. the fall of this game is its story. the first game gave me the trolley system save one or save many but that one is a loved one that you traveled with got to know and grow a bond with and living with the choice you made .this game makes your loved one be killed in front of you go out for revenge and face the reality of that choice fine to that point. then you get the perspective of the killer and her friends after the event which makes no sense trying to make me like this character that I hate so much already. playing threw her perspective actually made me hate her, even more, didn't make me feel anything for her or her friends than to make us play as her and beat the living **** out of Ellie the main character the reason I am playing this game. In the last part, we go back to Ellie go back to hunting the killer and then letting her go at the end what was the point in it. that last part felt naughty dog studio trying to sell me a tired game.… Expand

    You ruined the sequel to one of the best games I've ever played. I could relate so much to Joel and Ellie in the first one, here everything is just upside down, you play as a character you know nothing about, can't sympathize, ended killing your favorite character. But you don't get to kill her back to complete the revenge???!! Where's the satisfaction in that???!

The section where you play as Abby is an insult to player and fans, trying to convince them that someone as her has any sort of redemption and making players play as the killer of the beloved main character of the previous game, ND didn't understand how yo make a good "play as the villain" story/sidestory. The only really good thing, besides the upgraded although almost useless gameplay, are graphics which don't make a game and should be considered just as a bonus.     I play video games for the escapism and to experience good storytelling, both of which I think is missing from this game.

    So despite it having good graphics and audio, it simply doesn't cut it with me when the story feels forced and that is was designed to fit a goal or agenda instead of feeling like a natural progression from the first game.     This game got awfully repetitive. Years ago, I read the IMDB trivia where Neil Druckman stated, "While the first game was about love, this game will be about hate." I wondered what that meant. Now that I have experienced it, I realized this isn't something I want to experience anymore.

    On a positive note, they did a great job with being more inclusive to LGBT and racially diverse characters. But they deserved better than this.    … Expand

    Sony forbids doing games with boobs and naked people or sex. I recall the scandall with Japanese games. But this doesn't apply to lesbian sex or transgender. Of course.
    Masculine womank kill the protagonist of the first part in the first two hours and then get us play for masculine woman it's good idea, yep.

    Great game. Never think Neil Druckmann will be able to repeat high level of Last of us One. But he did it. Sadly, it lacks of well-developed characters from Last of us 1, but it is compensated by much much more deep story. 10/10.

The fact that we are forced to try and empathize with the previous protagonist's killer while watching every cherished character suffer a horrible fate makes it feel like this game's screenwriters wanted players to forcibly like Abby and dislike everyone before her. The gameplay gave me everything I’ve ever wanted from video game combat, its **** viceral and so intense that there were sections that actually left my hands shaking with Ellie’s. The graphics, art direction, animation, and acting performances are the very best I’ve ever seen in a game. But all of these masterfully crafted elements rely on one thing to make them all work - the writing. I was initially left incredibly dissapointed by the entire experience, but upon reflection and a second playthrough, I’ve realized that there is a lot of good in this story - most of it, in fact. *Spoilers* I have a lot of crtiticisms of the decision to have us play as a new character for half of the game. To put it simply, her actions had nothing to do with my disinterest in her story, my disinterest in her story is due to how interested they made me in Ellie’s story. I think what they did with Ellie’s character and her arc was beautiful and honest, and I loved every second I spent with her. With Abby, I didn’t feel hate - I felt nothing. I felt disconnected with her character and with her companions. This meant I was disconnected with everything else too. I virtually checked out for ten hours of this game because I was desperate to get back to the character I have gotten to know and slowly understand over the last seven years through what adds up to about 30 hours of gameplay, plus a comic book. I understood Abby and her motivations, but I simply couldn’t get myself invested in her story, because the excellent writing had made me too invested in Ellie’s. Overall, this game is an outstanding achievement and I cannot express how incredible it is to see such great representation through complex, nuanced, and flawed lesbian lead character. The ten hour Abby detour just didn’t work for me, but that’s just me, and there will be many who will find Abby’s inclusion a wonderful experience.… Expand

    Killing Joel in the first hour of the game, proves, that Naughty Dog doesn't care about what made their previous title to the Last of Us Part 2 so emotional and interesting. Don't get me wrong, this game is really great. I love the graphics, the realism, almost everything. Please don’t bring back Uncharted to have a woman no one cares about kill Nathan and Elaine within 2 hours and then their daughter ultimately doesn’t get any revenge. That would be just swell. I signed up to Metacritic just to give a review on this game cause I’m stunned. The 95 rating the critics give this game compared to the actual everyday players/users show exactly the world we live in today, the critics are to afraid off speaking the truth and don’t want to offend anyone with an actual real genuine thought. Context is everything Naughty Dog said in regards to the spoilers and killing Joel, one of the best characters on any gaming platform was killed within 2 hours. When we spent one of the best games of all time (first game) building this bond and care for both of them, this was one of the biggest slaps to the face to gamers I’ve ever seen. We all knew Joel was probably going to die to set Ellie on her revenge path and I was going to be ok with this, but how they did it, my jaw dropped in horror. Joel firstly saves Abbey from certain death then gives up his name easily and has no last words to Ellie, just beaten to death with a golf club. Now with some time to grieve and set on my path of revenge I may be able to get past this and if it was great and tense gameplay and a good story to follow I could maybe give this an 8 or 9 but BUT BUTTTTT HERES WHERE ITS UNFORGIVABLE, TO MAKE ME PLAY 50% of the game as the person who brutally murdered Joel, Eugene and then Tommy was one of the WORSE GAMING DECISION MADE IN HISTORY!. They wanted me to care so much for Abbey and see it from

Perfect start and then after the stupid snowball fight it all went down hill. This just made me think of the failure of Game Of Thrones and Star Wars, no one can stick the landing these days!!!

    The Last of Us 1 was a game that defined a generation and no one asked for a sequel because it didn’t need it, it was like a perfect 10 episode mini series that was just right. But now all they’ve done is bring these characters back and either kill them or not even get the justice they deserve, Naughty Dog just pulled a David and Dan.     The story. Without spoiling the story, I can say that its inconsistent and poorly written. "Brave" and "Bold" is not what I'd describe it. While its being compared to the likes of "GOT Season 8", I'd also compare it to a bad horror film, where shock is the only factor it offers. This is important because 'The Last of Us" is a story based game and gameplay is only a way to transport the story. Most people are not disliking the Game because of its choice of sexuality for its characters. The characters are boring and story forces you to attach yourself to them (which fails). They are not very likable, trans or not trans. The story itself is not very realistic (whether about the world or characters) and the concept of "survival among st the apocalypse" narrative is thrown out the window.

    Sadly, I cannot recommend this game to anyone and I hope they revamp Part 2 into a different narrative    … Expand

    I feel pretty disappointed over on how bad the storyline is. Part 2 literally ignore the first Tlou purposes. More like there’s a lot of SJW’s involved in this game but overall, I’ll rate it 2 for the graphic and the team’s hardwork for this game. I appreciate it.

    This game is simply apathetic, it doesn't care about the first The Last of Us. You see how one person kill one of the two most important character of this franchise and then it forces you to play as her.
    None will deny this game looks gorgeous, but story wise is simply BS. It tells you that killing is bad, but you kill everyone in order to kill Abby and then you didn't.     TLOU从本质上来讲是剧情驱动的游戏，所有的系统以及画面都是为了剧情的推动以及感情的烘托而服务，所以对于整部剧情都无法喜欢的我来说，最理性的打分也就只是5分，但对于将自身感情投入到乔尔和艾莉的我，还有一众媒体给出的可笑满分，我只能打0分来进行一下平衡（不要说我是云玩家，我是预购并且玩完了整部游戏）。
    从我自己的游玩感受来讲，TLOU 1代所有的前段剧情以及中后期控制艾莉的剧情，都为最后乔尔做出就算放弃世界的未来也要拯救艾莉的决定做出了完美的铺垫，在游戏的最后阶段玩家的意志和乔尔的意志达到了高度的统一。同时也奠定下了玩家与乔尔和艾莉深厚的感情牵绊。
    但在2代里面，整个游玩过程中我只感觉到了别扭，分裂，我完全无法代入角色，就只是麻木的在显示屏前推动游戏剧情前进的工具人。
    如果说1代完美的将玩家带入到了整个故事之中，那么2代也完美的将玩家分离到了故事之外。更别谈2代在一开始就用高尔夫球棒毁掉了1代中玩家建立的感情。
    在这谈谈Neil Druckmann说的玩过1代的玩家不会喜欢2代的言论，在这句话中我了解到一个可能性，他并不是1代的玩家，因为我觉得没有任何主创人员会把自己不喜欢的作品发布到市场上。这里我想到了岩田聪说过的“在我的名片上写着，我是一个公司的总裁。在我自己来看，我是一个游戏开发者。在内心深处，我实际上是一个玩家”我终于了解到了为什么任天堂总是能够创造出玩家喜爱的游戏，而其他游戏制作公司可能偶尔会有佳作但很少能够持续的原因了。

    They created false trailers where you can see the the protagonist of the first game, just to play with fan's nostalgia. One and a half hour and he is no longer in the game. and the cutscenes are totally different.

    The second part of the game, you play with a new character that nobody cares, or, if somebody does, probably hate it, for about 8 to 10 hours.

    Finally, the history makes no sense, it feels like a joke, specially the ending.

    The gameplay is outdated, but nobody cares about that, we know why we are here, we want a good story, this is not one.

    I will give it a 1 score, and that 1 is the only positive thing I can see in this game, graphics, audio and accessibility, very good job made by people CRUNCHING god knows how much.

    Loved the first game! Cant believe they destroyed this franchise that had such good promise. We play games to escape the real world not deal more with it. I hope they figure this out. Sadly I'll never buy another entry in this series. Terrible story. Looks amazing. Though graphics wise.

    This game was **** Enough said. Naughty Dog literally **** on all of us fans with a huge **** slap in the face with that scene at the beginning and an even worse **** ending. This is what we waited seven years for? Really?

    So I have mixed feelings. Very mixed. I'm a huge fan of the original. This game? Incredibly ambitious story. Great visuals. I felt like the new characters were weak. I just never got into them. The story was ambitious but poorly executed. Seattle playing as Ellie felt too long. Her relationship with Dina is overly simplistic and boring. Dina is annoying. Likable, but annoying. Although her levels were more interesting and varied. Just emotionally I didnt connect. Characters like Joel and Tommy make stupid choices, Ellie makes stupid choices and acts like someone else. Gameplay is ok but stealth kills begin to feel repetitive. Every time a Clicker kills me it's the same death animation with no variance no matter what. The AI gets predictable but is interesting sometimes. Just wish there was some innovative gameplay here. Nope. I would give this an 8/10 if the story was good, maybe a 9/10 if the story was great. As it is I give the visuals a 9/10, the audio a 9/10, the story a 0/10 and characters 2/10, gameplay is a 6/10, overall I'd never play this game again and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Technically should rate it a 5/10 but the story is so bad I just can't. RIP Naughty Dog… Expand

    Такссс с чего бы начать? наверное с хорошего. Визуал и атмосфера просто пушка!!! На этом всё. Игровые механики почти не поменялись. Примерно к середине игры захотелось блевать радугой! Я НЕ НЕНАВИСТНИК РАЗЛИЧНЫХ МЕНЬШИНСТВ, но когда тебе этим тычут в рожу на протяжении всей игры, это перебор. Джоэла слили максимально тупо, не было ни какого чувства сожаления. Мотивация    ЕСТЬ СПОЙЛЕРЫ!!!

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
