    Why? How after all this time kill off a legend with a golf club? Joel was one of many murders, why him? Story makes no sense. Letting the murder of Joel scotch free.. while killing hundreds to get there. It’s so disrespectful.

    I understand that this game is supposed to NOT be enjoyable but the writing of the story and characters is god-awful. It feels like a fever dream, a crappy fan fiction full of plot holes, decisions meant to be "realistic" but in fact, they were just purely written. Characters do not act the way we saw them in the early game, the time jump does not justify that. The game is too long for a "revenge is bad" story, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE BAD PEOPLE WIN. So revenge ultimately is great, I guess?
    And seriously though, did Abby kill every person named Joel she encountered? That would've made much more sense. His death was so full of **** I can't simply understand how one can come up with a solution like this. Shame because the graphics are the best I have ever seen on PS4, gameplay is mostly okay, slightly better than in the previous game. 2/10.    … Expand

    It hurts to give on of my favorite franchises of all time a zero but wow, just wow.     The plot was not impressive, new characters introduced to please certain communities. The gameplay remains the same as in the first part. Innovations are minimal. I was pleased only with the graphics and individual gameplay moments. I did not like what they did to their favorite character.

I also wanted to rate it lower at the start, but I'm not going to because as much as I believe the story suffers I think it could've been so much better if only one thing changed.

    If Joel didn't give his name to Abby's group at the start of the game, it would have improved drastically. We get more time to let Abby grow on us as a character, and the player has more time to spend with Joel. If she progressed naturally before finding out and making that decision, it would reduce the need for all the flashbacks in the game while also making it less painful for the player to play as Abby. It would make some people happy with the end of the game because they'd want Abby to live. As it stands, the players want nothing more than to avenge Joel with Ellie because that's the only character who matters before Joel dies.    … Expand

    Good visuals, my favourite thing about the entire game was the melee animations. Worst storyline I have ever seen, also it's clear throughout the game that the developers were just trying to force an LGBTQ+/SJW agenda and it made it a lot worse because of that.

    I cannot believe that this game treats the idea that revenge leads to more revenge as though it’s some kind of profound concept. Part 2 is just a bleak story in a bleak world with nothing particularly original to say.
    None of the main plot points in this game feel deserved.
    Naughty dog seriously took the easy way out this time. It's not brave or courageous. It's cheap

But then Butcher one of these charaters and force us to play as the killer for half of the game. At the end Ellie doesn't get her revenge and she loses everything. While Abby get's her revenge and goes to the fireflies happyly ever after. So your message of revenge is not the anwser is not true.

    Abby takes her revenge and wins. She survives, gets a happy ending.
    While Ellie, after a long journey of pain and loss, doesn't kill Abby. And she gets the bad ending where she is, what she always feared, alone.

    Lots of the characters make stupid choices that they never would make if we look at TLOU part 1. The only reason they make these stupid choices is so that the plot can happen.

    I didn't hate this game. Visually this is a masterpiece, but like a lot of people have already pointed out, the story is a let down and is pushing the wrong agenda. And the game-play is dull. You are basically watching a movie with quick-time events.

    The game deviates from the very essence of the first game. What they have made to the character is unacceptable. Plot is very weakly written and its only made to support their agenda. Only positives in this game is the gameplay elements and graphics which gives the glimpse of next-gen. Naughty Dog needs a redeem themselves l.

    if you are like me, then you loved and adored The Last Of Us part 1 (2013) and just like me, would consider yourself to be a hardcore fan that played the entire game a hand full of times while also not only buying it on the ps3 but also the remaster on the ps4. this being said, i was extremely excited for the last of us part 2. however, i do not feel as    Wow... where to begin...

    if you are like me, then you loved and adored The Last Of Us part 1 (2013) and just like me, would consider yourself to be a hardcore fan that played the entire game a hand full of times while also not only buying it on the ps3 but also the remaster on the ps4. this being said, i was extremely excited for the last of us part 2.

    however, i do not feel as though i have been given the last of us part 2. i feel as though i have been given a game which is being carried on the back of its original 2013 masterpieces' success. this being said, i do not want this review to be seen as some other reviews as (this person hates the game just because of the gay characters and other similar character details). my feelings are quite the opposite, as i feel these details do not matter within games, they are just merely extra character details and should not affect if a game is good or not. in fact i loved learning that Ellie was homosexual and experiencing her first love within the last of us 2013 DLC. moving onto my actual issues with the game:

    Joel, a man with such a horrific past of being a bandit, smuggler and un-trusting person in the first game, to the point of only truly starting care for Ellie half way through the first game and especially after her being kidnapped and attacked. for some reason loses all of this in the last of us part 2, giving not only his name away freely (which he knows would be bad in this situation given how many people he has crossed. even Ellie explains this WITHIN the first part of TLOU 2), but allowing himself to be surrounded by a large group of strangers and most importantly allowing the location of their town to be revealed. this is not the Joel i know and is definitely not the man we were given in the first game who as we might remember considered Ellie just 'cargo' for a substantial while and had spent 20+ years surviving this collapse of society and gruesome apocalypse. to simply tear him from the fans who loved him so much for simple sock value and to justify this dumb revenge plot is quite frankly heartbreaking as a fan and is a lazy, poor way to try and kick start a sequel which could have been better.... this is just one of my major issues

    i feel as though to explain all the reasons i dislike, maybe even hate this game, would make such a review too long, so i will simply do a sort/quick rundown and if this review is seen by many or few and is liked i will expand.

    i feel as though they have torn half the soul out of this game in a brutal, unneeded manor.

    trailers were so misleading in putting fans in a safe space of making us believe joel would be in TLOU 2, not just stupid FLASHBACKS!

    the game comes no where close as to developing on the original combat or mechanics apart from a prone movement stance which isnt even combat

    i feel as though no meaningful connections were made between characters to the point of what joel and ellie had and makes me not really care what happens to them. its has if ND never played the original and didnt know that the characters made the first game what it was, along with the main storytelling.

    some parts of the game like the abby sex scene made me feel uncomfortable. not because it was sex but because was it needed?

    i feel as though the only part of the original last of us i have here is the beautiful graphics and world design to remind me im supposed to be playing its successor.

    for someone who told fellow friends not to believe or be fixated on the leaks and to go into the game with and open mind because it would be great. i feel like an idiot. who now would have preferred to have no squeal and was just left with my masterpiece last of us. i doubt i will play this again and do not want a part 3 if this is the type of game i am to expect in the future. save your money, do not buy the game and keep the precious memories of this game franchise while you can.

    The Last of Us was honestly the best game I have ever played in terms of story telling. So, I was super excited for The Last of Us Part 2. So, I was super excited for The Last of Us Part 2. My excitement was through the roof, I couldn't believe it, I finally got to play the game after avoiding spoilers like crazy because the game got leaked. My excitement quickly disappeared after playing just a couple of hours. There were many cringe-worthy dialogues to the point I would physically cringe my face and say ugh out loud. There was a massive event that occurred within the first two hours. I was absolutely devastated. I did not want to play this game anymore but I spent $60, so I kept playing. The game takes you on 10 hours long side quest with new characters, and they were very unlikable and uninteresting. I pushed through, finished the game, hoping the ending will pay off all of the time I put into this game. Unfortunately, it didn't. The ending was just.... unsatisfying. This game does not feel like a sequel to the first game, instead, it felt like Naughty Dog and Co created a new universe that had some characters from the first game who had a cameo in the new game just to please the fans. There are no words I can use to describe how I felt after completing the game. I'm just sad I waited for 7 years for this game, only to see the story line make almost no sense, there are so many plot holes, so many characters that can't be related. I do not recommend spending $60 and about 16-20 hours of your lifetime into this game. It also didn't help seeing so many great reviews which raised my expectations. I wonder if the critics played a different game than us? I dunno man. :(… Expand

    My approach for this review is getting straight to the point (quick fire bullet points)
    the assumption is made that readers are familiar with the series or rather predecessor of this current iteration.

    1- Gameplay - this game personifies the "if its not broke dont fix it"" approach. the controls and game play is almost identical. its about survival and you need to be smart about how you manage your weapons. There is no new interesting weapons. And its the same old style of hide and take your time before attacking enemies.

    Enemy variations are limited in fact most are similar to the initial game for most of this game. AI can be questionable
    at times. More so with the new inclusion for enemy dogs , Ill just say this if a dog catches your scent i doubt the moving 2 metres away will make the dog loose you. )

    i hated that i felt more vulnerable in this game. Even though this game is relatively easy.

    2-Graphics and environment - this is the largest merit of the game. this is definitely the best thing about this game Naughty dog just has a style about their Last of Us and Uncharted series that is so amazing to witness. this game does not miss a beat on that point. Environments look largely the same and painfully linear with little open world.

    3- Story - The main issue here is the character themselves. their Actions are rather different from the first game. Characters that survived the first game seem regressed they some how trust strangers now. which gets them brutally killed. this includes the protagonist of the previous game whole is clearly not himself. Joel does not have a clear motive and this obviously leads to his death. The motive of his death is also not stemming from a previous choice the player was made aware of or given consent, Autonomy was disregarded and what seem like a moment of courage to preserve a little girls life in the first game led to a mans death. Ally then seeks revenge kills thousands of people and in the end finds Joels killer and opts for an Honorable battle which makes no sense because the character design of this character shows that she is defiantly superior in strength! in a segment of the game you are forced to play as this very unlikable character.

    Theres a weird sexual encounter all i can say on that is wow!!!

    4- Lastly My love for video games - The politics of the game ruin this game. This is taking a perfectly good hearted story and trying to challenge you for no reason with a plethora of plot holes. how are you getting buff in a damn apocalypse. Its ridiculous !!!! but its okay. but ignore the forth point its just my opinion.

    and by the way the apocalypse is ignored its just about religion and sexuality now. its crazy

I have no hate towards Ellie’s new relationship with Dina, in fact I think that is one of the bright spots of this game. I don’t like how Naughty Dog is forcing Abby on us. She kills Joel early in the game but than we are supposed to sympathize with her. Nothing bad ever happens to her, meanwhile all this terrible **** is happening to Ellie. Heard rumors about a potential 3rd game. Hopefully Abby gets what she deserves. I really think a sequel wasn’t necessary.     If you are looking for a fun game with stealth and shooting, I would suggest playing the original Last of Us or Metal Gear Solid 5. Red Dead Redemption II is also another strong choice. The story and gameplay of those games listed has far succeeds the Last of Us II in multiple aspects and I highly encourage a buyer to try one of those games instead of the Last of Us II.    … Expand

Yeah, the graphics are good (personally I thought RDR2's were much better and that was three years ago) and it's pretty smooth. Gameplay is the same as the first game, but you're in it for the story, characters and relationships, all of which goes out the window in this game. Everyone feels out of character, acts out of character, and there's no arcs or growth. They're just miserable, and the game makes sure you are miserable too. Violence was expected, and I'm typically more than fine with it, but a lot of the time it felt too over the top and had me flinching.The plot makes no sense at all, with huge plot holes, no arc, and having everything out of order feels sloppy and disjointed. Also, playing as Abby is a **** slog. They show her brutally kill Joel before giving her a "sympathy arc", which just solidifies me hating her before she gets a chance. Why is she important? We've killed so many as Joel and even more as Ellie. Who gives a **** about her father? The first game was about redemption, how you can always find something to live for, and how even the darkest paths can be turned off of. The first game ended with the player weighing the question of "was Joel's choice acceptable?" But this game doesn't allow you to sit with that anymore. The uncertainty of if Ellie knows and is going along with the lie or actually believes him is thrown out. This game literally has the director lookalike spit on that story's dead body. The relationships from the first game are gone. The characters are gone. The message is gone. What's the point. The ending doesn't even complete the story and just leaves you upset and unsatisfied. What a **** waste. If you haven't condemned your 60 bucks just look up the intro and the museum scene and save yourself the ordeal of the most disappointing game I've ever played.… Expand

It would seem impossible to think of this game flopping due to everything established in the first game and the excitement of the news of a sequel. But somehow it was worse than I could ever imagine.

    The tragedy that sets the whole story into motion is also a great betrayal of beloved characters on the part of Naughty Dog. The problem with this scene is not that Joel dies but the manner of how he dies and possibly when this takes place in the story. Joel in the TLoU was always cautious and hardly trusting of anyone. Joel even drove into a stranger on the road pretending he was injured because he knew what they were planning from prior experience of doing the same thing. Knowing the danger of people, Joel and Tommy decide to risk their lives to save a stranger with infected storming in to then tell Abby where they live and what their real names are without finding the motives of this stranger first? With the rising pressure of the infected, they decide to flee to the friends of Abby who are hiding in there neck of the woods and probably shouldn't even be there with no cause for concern with what that could mean. Not to mention the game just started and just before you even get your feet wet into the game Joel dies to a nobody in such a dry way just for shock value. This whole scene felt so forced and ingenuine of their characters that I didn't want to keep watching after this all played out.

    The second half of the game was very boring as I couldn't care less for Abby or any of Abby's friends. ND forces you to play as Abby just so they can impress upon you that Abby was justified with the actions that unfolded throughout the game. I never bought into this idea and never will. Also, don't get me started with the unbearable sex scene that came out of nowhere.

    What seemed to be the ending(s) of the game which I thought ever time it faded to black was more disturbing than what they did to Joel. Between the ideology being shoved down our throats the whole game to the cycle of revenge never taking place which was broken as Ellie let her go, I realized this game was a giant waste of my time.

    The only good things I can take away from the game are the amazing graphics, superb voice acting, and the flashbacks to Joel and Ellie that looking back now should have been the entire game.    … Expand

The graphics are amazing and the gameplay is mediocre and repetitive but that’s not why I play these types of games, I play them for story and to have fun. The only time I enjoyed playing was during flashbacks especially Ellie’s birthday which showed what we all loved about the first game the bond between Ellie and Joel. The characters feel like they’ve been stripped of all important character traits that made them who they are in part 1. Ellie the girl who’s killed hundreds without batting an eye starts to feel sympathy for Joel’s killers and lets Abby go in the end. Joel despite surviving for 20 years reveals his name and lets his guard down around a bunch of strangers.… Expand

    I'll try to break this down into 3 parts so that this won't be any long unnecessary writings.

    Beginning: The game starts with Joel telling Tommy about the lie from the end of Last of Us. Joel describes it in such a way that we as audience should empathize with the NPC doctors and nurses. I get that there are two perspectives in every story but it just felt like the writers didn't know what to write and went with a revenge plot. So basically that firefly doctor was not just a throwaway NPC but he literally drives this Part 2. Abby is the daughter of that firefly doc and wants a revenge (to kill Joel).
    Imagine how many NPC's daughters would want Nathan Drake dead then. Yeah so now you get how stupid this sounds.

    Middle: We are introduced to many new characters like Jesse, Dina, Abby, Owen and others I didn't bother to remember since they mattered very less or had zero character development. Oh yeah we also have this transgender character that Abby saves just to make us feel better. I don't have anything against transgender, gays or any other LGBTQ community. Its just that there is no interesting backstories that I could get behind or anything like that. It's just plain boring.
    In the first 2 hours Joel is clubbed to death by Abby and we have to watch him suffer from two angles (perspectives) one from Ellie's POV and other from Abby's POV. After this I thought maybe we have to kill Abby to have that satisfying end to what Abby did to my favorite character but nope Naughty Dog legit says **** you and we have to watch this very dark and depressing ending that I'll get into in the next para. We do go through this intense journey with Dina and kill Abby's friends and family like Owen and Mel and others. Then we play as Abby (YES WTAF RIGHT?) and we see from her perspective. Mind you the game is still trying to make you feel bad for Abby.

    End: So, Abby kills Jesse, shoots Tommy in the face, almost kills Dina whose pregnant until that trans dude says not to. After all this we cut to black and in the next scene we see Ellie holding Dina's baby and they're in the farm. Classic western retirement plans. Tommy tells Ellie that the cult has captured Abby and the trans dude. At first Ellie says "I am done vengeance consume me" like T'Challa but the very next scene we see Ellie packing bags and getting ready to murder. Okay so now I thought yes finally I get to brutally kill Abby for what she did to Joel. No, we go there have a knife and fist fight just to get to the point where Ellie changes her mind in 4 seconds and let's Abby escape. So all this killing for 100s of men and women to just get this weird ending? What? Why?
    So at the very end scene we see Ellie trying to play the guitar the only thing she could keep as a reminder of Joel but she can't because Abby legit chewed off Ellie's fingers in a fight. Camera zooms into the guitar with the window behind and we see Ellie walking down the field to I guess where Dina went. The End.

    Last of us Part 3: Ellie is killed by some NPC's son. Roll credits.

    Technical side of the review: The gameplay is same as the first one. Not much of a improvement I would say. The AI is a bit better and a bit harder to tackle compared to the first game. The animations are smooth. The graphics are obviously insane because its Naughty Dog.

    Overall: Its a **** movie with a mediocre gameplay in between.    … Expand

    Make no mistake, people are not exaggerating, trust the gamers rather than paid off critics and bots(boy are there bots in the positive review section), this is a bad game, it is an insult to the audience intelligence, specially to the fans of the first game who waited 7 years to see the game world and all the characters trashed in a non sequitur kind of way, there is no logical sequence of actions here, just plot holes and out of character sequences. Remember how Alien 3 began and in the first 5 minutes of the film all the characters are dead making the build up of the second movie worthless only to then introduce a cast of people no one could care about? this is even worse, much worse.

    Now, the graphics are the only positive thing about the game. The art direction, enviros and 3d assets are what you expect. Is a shame and a waste of talent that those people had to work with such a terrible developer team and terrible director and writers. This is a project that should not have been made, all that effort would have been put to better use doing another game. I didn`t know who Druckmann was, but i will avoid anything that involves his name from now on, the cherry on the cake is the developer accusing people who don`t like the game as nazis and bigots, yeah, like some lgbt characters are enough to make a terrible game good, what a classy act Neil.

    The gameplay is also boring, the game adds nothing of value in that regard, the entire game is more of a movie with some quick time events than anything. So everything outside the graphics is either mediocre to bad, sometimes hilariously bad. Expect many viral memes from this game.

    In short, if you loved the first game then pretend this doesn`t exist, nothing that made that game great is here, nothing that makes ANY game great is here. Is 101 on all the things that a AAA developer should not do. The fact that this is rated among the best of all time by fake critics just make it all much more pathetic and frustrating, this company deserves all the backlash they can get and maybe it serves as a cautionary tale of bad practices in the game industry. The only positive thing that could come up out of this is more people discovering the first game, thats it.    … Expand

The game takes all that is good from the original game, my favourite game ever, and improves on all of it. The gameplay was really good and not clunky like the first game which was great fun despite the technology limitations. The music, backgrounds and story are all so good and better than almost everything you can compare it to. Naughty Dog killed it again. It is an absolute must buy and IMO is the best PS4 game of this generation.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
