    This game is an excellent example of a technically excellent game with awesome graphics (for PS4). But also it is a game with incredibly badly written stories and extremely boring gameplay.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What you have here is a game with stunning graphics (just like the first) and mediocre, clunky, slow, and outdated gameplay (just like the first).

    What made the first a masterpiece was not its gameplay, but its characters and story. It was a journey of loss and gain, of despair and salvation, of a father and daughter. How a father would do anything to protect his daughter.

    This game fails to capture that at all. Taking all the ham-fisted agenda out of the mix as well as the actions taken by Naughty Dog and Sony in the lead up to the release...the story itself is just poorly told. We get no payoff to the events that concluded the first game. You get Joel acting uncharacteristically stupid, being emasculated, and then being unceremoniously slaughtered right off the bat. Die patriarchy. But it also means we get no resolution between Joel and Ellie in relation to the conclusion of the first game.

    No one gives a hoot about Abby. She’s not a compelling character. She’s not a likable character. Yet we’re stuck with her for much of the game. And then when all is said and done we don’t even get a proper resolution to the revenge story arc. Ellie kills hundreds of people just to let Abby live, because reasons. Abby accomplishes her goal. Woohoo. Meanwhile Ellie has lost everything. Her father, her partner, her fingers, her friends...but hey...crippling depression is all the rage.

    You have a ton of media either kissing its rear because of its “progressive themes” or because they are afraid of losing access. It’s not THAT good. Get real. And then you have a lot of fanboys and fangirls that haven’t yet come to terms with how bad the story actually is. This is a “The Last Jedi” situation through and through. When you sacrifice story and character for agenda this is what happens. Probably wrote the story in an afternoon.    … Expand

    Gameplay wise it's decent, but feels like more of the same, it's stuck in the PS3 generation. No innovation or anything, it just feels very average. It lacks puzzles and more interactions with the environment that the previous game had.     The game's graphics are beautiful. Great mechanics like the first game. Amazing environments by the concept artists. Stellar voice acting. But the story is TERRIBLE. One must judge for themselves, but I don't believe this game should have been made. They found a way to give the most depressing ending possible to two of the greatest characters of all time.

    When Neil druckmann said "we don't use the word fun" he REALLY wasn't kidding. Tlou2 is a betrayal to the original game's character, story, and fans. I should have listened to the rumors. i'll just pretend that this game doesn't exist

    Graphics great. Everything else was bad. Makes you immediately hate the new characters and not care about them at all, but then forces you to play as/with them for the majority of the game. They went full GoT/Last Jedi with the story

    What a waste of seven years. At some point these AAA developers need to think about who they are making their games for. Is it for the sweet sweet critic love, or for the actual people who play the game and enjoy escaping reality. The saddest part of it all is they will still make a ton of money and just continue to make what they want, audience be damned.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is disappointing. It can hardly even be called The Last of Us "Part II" because it has nothing to do with the first game. Part 2 at the very minimum should have involved finding the cure still, and involved Joel. In the first game Joel murdered the fireflies to save Ellie, and lied to her. Everyone expected a continuation of that storyline and how long it would've been kept secret, and how they would have dealt with the rest of the fireflies now.

    The characters personalities, looks, and cautiousness from the first game has been removed. Joel trusts a bunch of strangers for no reason and walks into a room surrounded by them with Ellie. He's suddenly turned into a gullible fool and killed early on. The Last of Us was made popular by this character and maybe in a TV show or something longer it would be ok to kill him, but here it makes no sense.

    Also... playing large amounts of the game as 2 characters. Especially as Abby who is a very unlikable character. There is nothing positive about her, and she has nothing special or meaningful to accomplish in the entire game. Instead of the cure and accomplishing something important in the apocalypse, it turns into a boring 2 way revenge story. Another thing with Abby is she is somehow the only muscular shredded girl in the post apocalypse... Unless they have steroids and large amounts of protein, it's just not possible. I'm not being sexist, it's just simply obvious and out of place.

    The only positive I can point out in this game is the graphics. They're impressive, and I'm a fan of snowy environments which they made look great. I still can't give this game a better score because of that though, everything else is just a mess.

    Overall, this game does not make sense and I can't consider it canon in my book. I'll remember the first game and never look at this ever again and try my best to forget this complete failure of a sequel.    … Expand

    While the graphics are next-level, everything else about this game is a major disappointment. It is obvious the so-called "critics" are in the pockets of Sony. I have not enjoyed playing this game and cannot recommend in good conscience.

    Hola... lo he comprado con mucha ilusión, pero.. me ha parecido muy aburrido, gráficos mucho peor de lo que me esperaba y gameplay repetitivo.. y la historia/guión horrible..y no es una review bombing :-), siempre me han gustado los juegos de Naughty Dog, pero este, al menos las primeras horas, muy tedioso. uuff.     The writing is very bad and amateur, the dialogue made me physically cringe many times, when characters speak in a manner that people don't in real life, all "relationship/ friend" characters seem to have the same exact way of interacting with each other, people make out of character decisions or say out of character things in order to service the "new" story, which retcons a lot of things from the 1st game in order to push a new narrative, tries to "assasinate" the old characters while putting the new one on a pedestal, it is done badly and feels very artificial, essentialy trying to emotionaly trick the player/viewer to sell the new narrative.

    And in the end it even manages to fail to accomplish its own narrative, because it gives the exact opposite message while at the same time it also makes everything that happened throughout the 20+ hours of gameplay pointless, I find that astounding. 1 point for running when you put the disc in.    … Expand

The story has been the true downfall of the game and no amount of graphics, voice acting, and animation will be capable of cushioning the poor narrative that Naughty Dog was trying to achieve.     I played the first game with my family and it was a masterpiece. This game is an insult to every fan of the series. The storytelling was atrocious and this game tried to make up for its lack of storytelling with pandering. Easily one of the biggest flops in gaming history. I can't believe they let us down this bad after all the years we spent waiting.

    Элли то испытывает потребность к мести, то терзания совести после более 100 личностей( которые на минуту имеют имена) и в том числе собак(тут я вообще молчу... убивая собаку Элли комментирует *Тупая собака*, это как понимать? Собственно как персонаж Элли потерян.
    Далее, Эбби... кхм, нууу ок Баба-качок, бывает... Ну Ок, предположим.
    Дина, не раскрыта как персонаж, лично мне всю игру было на нее плевать.
    Баба с Эбби, та что беременная, то что она испытала, при своём путешествии, подтягивании на канате, болталка в грузовике, прыжки с высоты! У нее уже давным-давно должен был случиться выкидыш.
    Кореец, хахаль Дины, полностью не раскрыт как персонаж, сдох, как говорится, да и хрен с ним, не жалко.
    Плюс откровенная ЛГБТ составляющая.
    Приплюсуем ко всему этому ту же убогую стрельбу с первой части, ту же графику с ремастера и возникает вопрос, как могли эту игру делать целых 7 лет?
    Про концовку я вообще молу....
    Игра полное недоразумение, много ещё у нее косяков, букв не хватит расписывать все минусы.
    Добавьте ко всему этому 10 из 10 от журношлюх и результат не заставил себя ждать. Даром не надо, лично для себя я закончу историю первой частью, вторую в мусорку. Джоель с Элли приехали в городок, всё END.    … Expand

    I was a big fan of Naughty Dog. I finished all episode of Uncharted (except the one on PSV) and I really love the uncharted series. I also finished the last of us part 1 because I really like how Naughty Dog told story despite that I am not a fan of horror movies and games. And therefore I spent $69.99 to pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition of this game. HOWEVER, this game make me doubt if I am going to buy Uncharted 5 (presuming they will make Uncharted 5).

    3 Point for the good graphic, 1 point for the average game-play, 0 point for the terrible story.

    The story is terrible. They show no respect to the characters that the players love so much in part 1. And they show no respect to the players by forcing you to play as a character, who you will hate after witnessing what happen in the game, for over 10 hours.

    In the last of us part 1, even if you do not think Joel's choice is correct, you can understand why he did that. Here, it is difficult for you to understand why the characters will do such thing in the story. Their behaviors did not fit in their characters. Sometime they behaviors even conflict with their other behaviors in the same game, and there are no ground for the changes.

    I loved the original game because of it’s well balanced and realistic story, and sadly that has been totally disregarded in part 2. I played it all the way through, and the story has few redeeming features. The plot is hardly believable at many key moments in the game with all the key characters making baffling choices.     This my friends, is called FALSE ADVERTISING. Stores are denying refunds, but there is a petition with 30k signatures requesting Naughty Dog to change the story of ‘The Last of Us II’ to something that resembles what we were promised.

    Obviously, that won’t happen.

    But, it may send a message that Druckmann’s toxicity and narcissism costs them money. Because if there’s ne message any corporation (Sony included) talks... is money.

    Save your money and use it to support developers who care about fans and delivering a great product (like CD Projekt Red) instead of virtue signaling.

    With that said, I can’t give it a 1 (or a 10 like some did mere hours after release). Graphics are great. Gameplay is the same (with the addition of crouching in vegetation, something the first Metal Gear game introduced back in 1987).

    And btw, the stellar reviews by IGN and friends? Here’s how it works. Access media (like IGN), depends on developers giving them early access to games in order to write about them. Which - in the case of highly-anticipated games like this - bring lots of clicks, which brings lots of money. Give the game a bad review and a powerful publisher like Naughty Dog will keep them in the doghouse when their next bug game comes out. Their competitors get access they don’t, weite articles, get clicks and money... you get the drift. Take everything these big sites say with a bucket of salt.

    It’s a business. Journalistic integrity and impartiality be damned!

    Even worse, the technical merits of the game are arguably not as good as the prequel. The pretty environments feel now like soulless Quixel asset flips, and the game animations are thousands upon thousands of motion capture segments weirdly blended together by something which feels more like an AI than any kind of human-made plan. The end result is something which looks amazing in a static frame or a small motion segment, but doesn't feel right or cohesive once you are playing.

    The gameplay has been simplified and dumbed down considerably compared to the predecessor, where it was already thin. Even worse, the changes made are never there to make the game better, but to make the developer's job easier. An example is the addition of tall grass as a stealth mechanic, an unwelcome gaming trope which allows them to get away with much worse level design. Multiple issues which were present previously but were unimportant due to the nature of the prequel (inconsistent control response, shooting issues, out-of-control secondary animations getting in the way of your stealth, poor enemy AI, and more), now return but are way more prevalent since the game is way longer, has worse pacing, and the writing is no longer able to carry the weight of the game. It's just a lazy job after lazy job. At the end of the day, this game was not made as something intended to be played, but to be watched. And, since you have zero agency and zero choices during the game, I'd say the optimal platform to play the game is YouTube and not PlayStation.

    The entire game feels like it was made by factory robots, except for the story bits, which seems to be written by an Internet troll instead. It deserves a 0 not only because that's how it will make you feel after trying it for a while, but because this is an extremely dangerous trend which can end up destroying the entire AAA gamespace. Do not listen to the dozens upon dozens of 10/10 'professional' reviews which talk nothing about the game's blatant faults and are nothing more than glorified press releases.

    Honestly, it's not even about what they did to Joel..

    Sadly, this game is one of the biggest disappointments of the this generation.

    The writing of this game was terrible and when I say terrible, I mean the worst I have ever seen. It was a story that was completely meaningless and had no resolution. SkillUp was correct when he said that you could interchange any of the characters and the story would be exactly the same. Joel and Ellie, who were some of the most incredible and well written characters in gaming history, had almost no modern day screen time together.

    "But Raven, what about the flashbacks spread throughout the game??"

    That's the problem... The flashbacks ARE WHAT WE WANTED THIS GAME TO BE!

    There simply is no such thing as TLOU without Ellie AND Joel. Let's be honest, we knew that Joel was going to die. He had to. But not like this... Where is the care, Niel? You both figuratively and literally spit on his corpse. And for what? Some cheap thrills? "To divert my expectations?"

    Let's put Joel and Ellie aside for a moment and simply state the obvious. This game is just one plot whole after another. It didn't make sense in the end. I hated the characters, as expected. The attempt to make Abby likeable (which is the only thing I can assume you did with her sections) was laughable at best. She had no redeeming quality, nothing that made happy about the ending.

    The only good thing in this game are the graphics, story side were VERY bad, it makes last of us 1 doesnt even matter. Original character were OFF, its a downgraded character development from the previous one. That's what happen when you put too much politics in games over fan base.

One of the major story points that happens within the first couple hours only happens because a character does something this character would NEVER do as established in the first game. It’s an utter disgrace and ruins the character. Sadly this is the sole driving force of the entire game. Not only is the plot point created by this event the main focus of the game and story but it is also repeated twice. It’s the most basic thing I’ve ever seen and to make matters worse it is written very poorly. It’s bad enough to run with a ridiculous concept but I’d you are going to you better darn well get the writing and characters right. This game does neither. The characters are boring and not compelling and the writing is that of something I would have written before I got into middle school.

    The “poignant” moment at the very end was just laughable. I mean literally. I laughed out loud. If you like this game then good for you. I’m not faulting anyone’s opinion. My as for me I say shame on Naughty Dog For releasing this garbage. The story had more plot holes and disconnects than POE’s servers. The controls were meh. And as is the case with most games today, it was short.

    Sure, they kind of warned everybody that it was going to be different, but any truly honest critic could tell they were either desperately reaching just to get a title released, or this was nothing more than a weak excuse to justify mindless killing rather than a carefully thought out game with a worth while plot. In a nutshell it is kill. Kill some more. And maybe collect a little loot along the way. I can think of much better, more worthwhile violent kill and loot fest games and they’re free!    … Expand

    Graphics were nice but story was garbage it was very disappointing. Critics gave it good reviews prob because to say anything otherwise they would be considered some type of phobic so they just bend to the will of the SJW's.

The creators do not care about the fan base and ruined a legendary could be franchise. The storyline is terrible and lazy, unlike the first game. You will be disappointed. Nothing in this game is good but the graphics.

    To start off they kill the main character in the most nonsensical way imaginable. Then they make you play as the antagonist trying to appeal to her reasoning, which we’ll never understand. And to top it all off, Ellie goes on a rampage to kill everyone to kill said antagonist, just to let her go free.
    Wish Naughty Dog had more respect for their fan base but this game proves they couldn’t care less.

    I watched a full playthrough on YouTube so THANK GOD i didnt waist any money on this.

    The graphics and environments are phenominal. But unfortunately that is where my enjoyment ended. The writing was laughably bad in my opinion. The narrative and direction felt entirely forced and unnecessary. The game play is slightly improved from the first game but there is not much innovation to be had in general. It's sad for me to say these things because I loved the first game.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
