A fantastic atmosphere. Great graphics and sound. Really cool and intense fight scenes. All this huge potential wasted by a complete failure of a story...

First things first, this game has been dividing fans immensely, given by the rift between critic and fan reviews.
With that out of the way, here's my take on the story, the controversy and the game. Spoilers ahead for game 1 and 2 ahead.

Already in the first game, Naughty Dog has tried to establish that no conflict is ever black and white. During multiple times in the story, Joel's dark past is hinted at.
    -He's a smuggler
-Tess literally said "We're **** people, Joel."
-He's been on "both sides" of an ambush
-Obliterates the last branch of humanity looking to find a cure in order to save his surrogate daughter.
Sadly, much like the 2nd game, the hostile factions we encounter as a player are always presented as "evil"
-the military acting killing anyone who's not compliant
-looters who shoot first, ask questions later
-a group of survivors (with kids), who kill and eat people
It is only towards the end where we see Joel lash out against the "good", presented in form of the fireflies.
The game ended with Joel's thinly woven lie that the fireflies have stopped looking for a cure.

Game 2 confronts the player with the consequence of our actions. Joel's past catches up with him in form of Abby, who exacts revenge on Joel for what he did to the fireflies and her father (the surgeon he killed to save Ellie). And like the old "an eye for an eye" principle, Ellie sets out to exact revenge on Joel's killers.

What TLOU II pulls off what TLOU I didn't is that it showed conflicts from both sides. We get to play as both Ellie and Abby- bitter rivals, as you may say- and learn their motivations and loves and grudges. It tried portraying the moral grey conflicts that they were trying to convey in the first game too, just this time they took a more direct approach. Players may find upsetting that their idols may not be as heroic and "white-vested" as they may have thought.

Another box of criticism this game has received was the hate for LGBTQ-inclusion, as well as its portrayal.
Firstly, if you feel offended by the inclusion of queers in a video game, then the game isn't the problem: You are. Your values have gone out of fashion in the 1950s, so go with the time and stop living in the past. Almost every video game in existence features a straight, white man in the lead, with only recent examples. The few female protagonists like Lara Croft were merely sexually idolised.
Secondly, some hate came from transgender people as well, stating that the trans character in the game was, for a fact, merely abused and tortured. While the portrayal of the game's trans character is in no way perfect, I believe it is a major first step towards inclusion and representation of our LGBTQ friends and allies in the video game industry. Perhaps the first step is shaky and bad, but that's what first steps are there for. Personally, I give props to Naughty Dog for finally having the guts to take the first step.
The queers in TLOU II didn't feel like a major "distraction" from the story. They aren't a major talking point. Not until you make it. Learn to live with it. Deal with it.

So of course the game is being review-bombed for the aforementioned problems. Yet they do not take into consideration the thousands of other departments of the game that made it stand out as much as it did.
The programming- from rope physics to animation to enemy AI- is OUTSTANDING and truly unique. Every encounter was a fun to test out, every environment remarkable.
The sound design deserves props as well. Never have the infected- clickers especially- sounded more spine-chilling and DANGEROUS than they have in this game. For the first time, clickers actually sounded like a threat not to be ignored.
And of course, the actors have done an incredible job at bringing Ellie, Dina, Abbie etc to life. Bravo.

While the story isn't perfect and a few characters felt a little bleak (looking at you, Jesse), it is far from what the majority make it out to be.

If you can have an open mind and dive into this game, it is well worth the time and dedication.

This game doesn't look like first game of franchise, it's not the road movie, it feels like it's brutal action.
In the first part of the game it's played pretty nice, but after ten hours of playing as Ellie the game makes us to play as another character Abby. She's daughter of the doctor, which was killed in the end of the first game. The last ten- twelve hours of gameplay feels veeeery long and it could be shorter a lot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has crazy good lighting, the graphics are astounding, and the music is so good. This is truly next gen stuff here. However the writing could use some work; the flashbacks are really good though it truly has the spirit of the first game. Now everything that happens in the present is not as good. You can tell early on in the game where it just doesn't sound normal like it's forced in a way. Also some of the characters just do some stuff that isn't in there nature. They try so hard for you to sympathize with Abby, but it's hard to. I know that Naughty Dog can write incredible stories, and I think that's one of the main reasons it got so much hate. Now I wouldn't call it a bad game because it isn't. I also wouldn't call it the best game it's an average game. If it wasn't for the visual, and music part of the game then it would have flopped for sure. Also it's not the actors fault, so stop attacks them. They did the best with what they had. Expand

The gameplay and graphics were mostly great, but the story fell flat in places and dragged down the overall experience. It became a bit of a slog halfway through so I feel like it would have been better if the game was shorter.

    Gameplay: 8/10
The gameplay was great for the most part but some of it felt clunky. The stealth was great, and being able to both crouch and crawl to escape and sneak up on enemies was one of the game’s best mechanics. Cracking the safes were fun mini games too; you were really rewarded for exploring the world! However, the hearing vision took too long to come up which caused me to avoid using it much, and having to press a button to open/close the crafting window during combat caused me to miss a few opportunities. Having to mash square all the time quickly became repetitive, it would have been nice to see games make more use of the touch pad in those situations. Every quick time event was “mash square”, with the respite of holding triangle to open doors. It got old fast. Also the hand to hand combat (mash square plus dodging) was a bit naff, it would have been nice if there were a few more mechanics there.

    Graphics: 10/10
The graphics were excellent, probably the best I’ve seen on a console. The environment was beautiful and fitted the world perfectly; it all looked so real! I only had a couple of glitches throughout the entire game. Only two or three times the clicker didn’t render in a death cutscene, and again only twice the environment disappeared for less than a second; but the first time it happened I was trying to find where my companion went, who was visible when the world disappeared, so I think “it’s not a bug, it’s a feature” fitted there.. the second time it happened was just a glitch though. But still the graphics were pretty much perfect so 10/10!

    Narrative: 5/10
The story beats let the game down. Some moments have become controversial due to their poor execution and neglect the fans to favour shocking scenes. The pacing felt off and sometimes the cutscenes weren’t interesting enough to make the battle feel worth while, especially during the second half. The letters and notes hidden around had the best writing in the game though. It could have been much better, but overall It was interesting enough to keep me going until the end. The game was spoiled for me before I played it so it didn’t have as much of an impact on me as it perhaps could have.

    Experience: 7/10
The world felt like a harsh realistic zombie apocalypse and the game did that well considering the graphics and the base world story (the original last of us world helped here). However, the narrative negatively impacted it; I didn’t always understand the character motivations for certain actions, some didn’t seem very realistic. Also I often didn’t know where to go, which was annoying and broke my immersion, but still, I guess that did seem realistic because the character wouldn’t know where to go in a new area they they haven’t been before. I wish it had made more use of background music, there was very little; although being able to play the guitar was fun for me.

    Conclusion:
The game had a different feel to the original, but I’m not too bothered by that in terms of it as a stand-alone game. However, I would have preferred the sequel to the generally consider masterpiece “the last of us” to have taken a different route story-wise, but the game still has its merits. 7.5/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

For example they could have had him fight off a large group of people and infected and die in an epic last stand scenario with corpses of men and infected scattered around a large area. I can’t believe they spent “7 years” on the follow up to the masterpiece that was the first title in this franchise and came up with this. For those who’s main straw man is “oh they didn’t like the lgbt aspects that’s why the didn’t like it,” this couldn’t be further than the truth. I have no problem with inclusion from all walks of life as long as the story is compelling. That being said,I can’t believe they spent “7 years” on the follow up to the masterpiece that was the first title in this franchise and came up with this. I have no problem with inclusion from all walks of life as long as the story is compelling. That being said, what a **** MESS Neil **** and his team came up with. While the graphics are above average, I am judging this as a story driven game, just as the first one was. And boy, what an absolute mess the story is. More than deserving of a 0/10, TLOU2 is a forced, contrived, repetitive plot that **** on the previous attachments and submits the player to a ridiculous “revenge bad” lesson that no one gains anything from. Christ you’d think 7 years and they would have found a better route to take this franchise. Characters show up and die for seemingly no reason at all, pacing is completely off compared to the first game, character development is nowhere to be found. It seems as if the writers took a vacation when it came to writing compelling characters. Forcing us to play as Abby for 10 whole hours was a very questionable decision. I can’t even believe I finished this game. By the end of my 25 hours, I have never felt less satisfaction from a game that I spent $60 on. It was so out of character for Ellie to not finish the job after killing 100s of characters on her way to make Joel’s death worth something. I don’t care what anyone says; the ending to this game was an absolute travesty, nothing is gained or learned, the developers assume you have never seen a movie before and force the revenge is bad element so damn hard that it takes you completely out of the game. This should’ve been a separate title as it is completely unbelievable that this is attached to a franchise that garnered as much acclaim as the first one. I feel bad for those who animated the game as there was definite effort put into the visual aspects, but all seems for not in the end. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME IF YOU ENJOYED THE FIRST ONE. The sheep who were paid to review this positively were done so to mislead you, this is definitely one you can skip. Expand

Graphics and gameplay is pretty nice, but that’s all.
Most of us were liking the the first part because of the amazing story and Charakter Development. The bonding Story of Ellie and Joel was amazing. We could cry, laugh and be happy and angry with them.
But now they just completely change the Charakter of Ellie and kill Joel right at the beginning? That’ dog ****.
Also the you have to play have the Game with Abby who tortured and killed Joel. I absolutely hated that.
Also I have the feeling that they have stretched the game quite a lot because of all the unnecessary long ways. I absolutely didn’t have that in the first part.
Every Charakter was just lame. In comparison the bow and traps friend of Joel in the first part was way more interesting then all of new characters in this game.
Also Ellie kills hundreds of people on here way for revenge and then she rescues and spares her main target Abby even though she tortured and killed Joel, she nearly killed Tommy and she killed Jessie.
    That’s just a lot of bull ****.

The graphics were amazing and that's the only thing that was good about this game. The story lacked and everything about it screamed that this isn't the last of of us. Killing off Joel in the beginning of the game was a slap to the face of people that enjoyed the first game. I don't know who or how these decisions came to be but this game has let so many down and in all honesty naughty dog should feel let down as well, you guys and girls have decided that you didn't care for your fans and went with such a negative turn that this game needs to be thrown away and started again. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its surprising that a game with 10/10 graphics and a 9/10 soundtrack and decent gameplay could only receive a 6/10, but thats where I would rate TLoU2 due to its story.

For some context, the previous entry TLoU1 was a story set in a dystopian/miserable world that had a story fundamentally about love.. and hope. With all the tragedy that they underwent, it was the juxtaposition of hope and Joel/Ellie's story that carried you through the game.

TLoU2 was a story set in a dystopian world about love and hate/revenge, (At least on Ellie's story). Without the aspect of hope, and given the context of the story... unfortunately there was very little redeeming about this game in terms of story. You had a miserable world and a miserable revenge plot. This was the authors intent and the author succeeded in this mission. Yes, there were some other intentions such as exploring the concept of revenge and forgiveness, but this was felt as secondary to the prime directive to make you miserable.

I think the authors of the story looked it on paper and perhaps in the context of film and thought it would be an artistic masterpiece, because the story on paper seems beautifully woven and with intricacies and nuance to its themes that if explored differently might have been enjoyable. But in the context of a video game it simply didnt work. The miserable, hopeless story detracted from what could have been a game with similar global appeal as the original. The CHOICE of hopelessness is something I cannot understand for a video game. A video game is 25-40 hours long, not 2 hours long. It is NOT the same as a movie. Hopelessness for 25-40 hours is an ill-informed decision, especially escalating hopelessness.

Expanding on this point, in most video games, EG survival horror games like (Resident Evil, Dead Space, Wolfenstein, the Evil Within, Silent Hill, etc), you are enduring hopelessness but at a third wall level you know you are the protagonist and you think that you will come out okay in the end. The brutal murder of Joel in the beginning of TLoU2 eradicates any semblance that this is the case. You are enduring actual hopelessness for 25-50 hours. I felt this game was basically the equivalent if as Christopher Nolan decided to make Dunkirk 30 hours long as an artistic vision. This kind of experience is not designed to be 30 hours long and any reasonable person should know that the game needed hope to make it endure, (like as was contained in the first game). Its was as if Neil doesnt actually play video games so he doesnt understand that this is not a movie and how his vision would actually translate into a game.

Expanding further, playing Abby was ultimately repugnant and unenjoyable. This is not toxic masculinity or bias, this is the general consensus and it is strongly correlated with being a "gamer", IE, whether you adored the first game. The character that brutally murdered Joel because her father refused to not murder his (basically), adoptive child is not an ethical grey. Despite condemning the world, western societies are not the collectivist societies of Russia/China, etc. Western societies are individualist societies that value the individual human life. For not even CONSULTING with Joel he has the western moral right, and Abby was in a typical moral wrong, (from the western societal level). Despite any potential redemption path for her, the decision to make you play as her is repugnant from the perspective from any member of a society that values classical liberalism and individualism.

Finally, and a point of contract. Here is my proposal for how the story SHOULD have gone, but why they didnt because current year is 2020. I actually agree that Joel's death could be fitting and even poetic, but not the way he did. If Joel has to die, imagine that they give you the game with him and he dies at the end. The story gives you the whole game to process that BEFORE hand with hints (through context of the story and the situation they are in), that he might die. At least throughout the entire game there is the HOPE that it will turn out okay. Imagine that they come for Joel and murder dozens of people and threaten the town but dont get Joel. Joel and Elly head out and explore the revenge and all the themes the same way. And by the end of it, some sort of conflict/hostage situation has to occur, and right when they are at the finish line, Joel decides to sacrifices himself for Ellie as HIS decision, and somehow throughout the course of the game or at the end he can deliver the same message that the end of this game had, to live her life and not get revenge. This is the story that makes sense, but it was the story that they couldnt tell because they wanted to tell a more progressive story. There is nothing wrong with progressive messages, I think its great to give hope to marginalised groups. But this game decided to decapitate the obvious, beautiful, poetic story.. for a progressive story that didnt make sense.

If you fell in love with the first game DO NOT ever play this one. TLOU2 actively seeks to destroy everything that made the original so great. It’s full of cheap, hollow, and manipulative story telling that’ll leave you feeling empty and asking yourself why. I wish I had taken other people’s warnings before buying this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really don't want to write this, because it hurts like hell.
But this game is a complete joke. Sure there are a few good parts in the game (mostly flashbacks to Joel and Ellie tho, I really enjoyed those). It was a cool idea to view things from 2 different angles, I have to give them that, but they did it wrong. What Abby did so early in the game causes no one to have any sympathy for her for the rest of the game, her sad story does not change the opinion we have about her. If only they put that in a different order, maybe it could've worked better.

Character development... well I guess I can see what they were going for? But poorly executed, everything the characters in part 1 stood for was chugged out of the window. We know Ellie and Joel from the first game and we know their stories and where they come from, but they seem so empty in part 2. They are not the same people at all. They ruined the ending as well, I don't even care that Ellie let Abby go, what bothers me the most is that she now lost 2 fingers, which makes her pretty useless for a sequel, if there will ever be one, that is.

Gameplay wise, yah it's pretty nice, I'll give that, felt smooth.
    Graphic wise, very good.

About the whole SJW thing, I really do not care if a character is lesbian, or trans, I really do not care. But it is clear this game is ruined by politics, which makes me sad and angry beyond belief.

I just hope this all turns out to be some kind of **** up dream or something, otherwise I have no hopes for a part 3, because well, Ellie's hand is ruined, no way she can hold a weapon now and I refuse to play as Abby ever again. Hopefully she magically grows those fingers back or something.

I really hate to say this, but I feel like this franchise, which had so damn much potential... is ruined. Well done devs. This game is an absolute joke and an insult to the first game as well as to us, the fans of the original. As if someone beat the game to death with a golf club and spit on it's lifeless body.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. * Graphically speaking it is stunning. The attention to detail is impressive.
    * Gameplay very similar to the previous inception, with some added twists to keep from feeling too old hat. Being able to go prone (what's with that annoying thrumming noise) and jumping are welcome additions - although the jump mechanic needed more attention. There were too many instances where a missed jump came down to requiring that you stand on a very precise spot (with no indication otherwise).
    * The AI should have been tweaked to a more challenging standard. Examples of the weak AI: 1. Ellie could lay prone in grass and literally wipe out an entire squad of bad guys using the grab and stab technique. 2. Ellie could stab a Clicker and kill via a stealth takedown, but she couldn't stab kill them otherwise. 3. AI characters would call out the discovery of a dead comrad, then go back into a patrolling path loop within seconds of alerting the rest of the enemy. 4. Clickers need multiple shots with most weapons, even to what would be described as the head area, but a single normal arrow to the same area would take 'em out.
    * Pet peeve: Being able to detect enemies on the other side of the walls was routinely nullified, for the sake of a horror movie style jump-out-of-nowhere suprise element. Multiple checks of an area that would indicate no enemies present, only to be attacked as soon as you entered the room - which would then be filled with the enemy. Why give the player the ability to detect enemies if you repeatedly discount it for some cheap scare tactic?
    * Story was engaging, with periodic flashbacks to fill in the backstory elements and paint a broader picture of the major characters. It dealt with a quite the range of emotions and attitudes, fairly consistently well done. I felt that the second half could have put more time into the father-daughter relationship, which would likely have endeared me more to Abby's pain of loss. Also, Ellie's abrupt end to her life on the farm felt far too rushed.
    * Crafting didn't hold a lot of surprises, although the proximity charges were a nice addition.
    * The progression system was quite well done, proving players with a fairly expansive list of skills that could be improved upon. One of the few areas where it felt you were able to evolve the character's abilities to your own liking.
On a more personal note: I get that a lot of people wanted a repeat of the first game, with more of the same Joel and Ellie elements. This game was primarily about Ellie and her obessesion with revenge. And it was about Abby, who also was obessed with the same desires, under similar circumstances. There's always two sides to any story, and I felt the writers did a decent job of potraying that this game world.

A pointless 30 hour journey filled with forced oxymoronic narrative choices that comes off as confused and/or clueless at best, tonedeaf and/ or stupid at worst.

The visual presentation is nothing short of stellar and a few areas being so open invites a pseudo open world like feel in an otherwise linear game, allowing for enough freedom for the savvy explorers.

Audio design may be hit or miss but ND nailed it for the most part.

That however is the end of the good....

The game meanders with one too many "dead ends" and shifting perspectives that attempts to make players empathize with the cast and yet achieved nothing as it is an impossible task to begin with. And all of it culminates to the most unsatisfying and pathetically hypocritical writing I've ever experienced out of any of ND's narrative driven outings.

If you're here looking for a strong character driven and sensible narrative ala the 1st game, then look elsewhere. The causality in this game's narrative is as irrational as it is illogical to the point of stupidity and pointlessness.

If you're into the gameplay then I can see a good 3 or so playthroughs with the new game plus option ls total before you get bored of it all or annoyed. Accessibility options are there for those inclined for a more streamlined experience, which is a bonus I suppose.

All in all, if you're a fan of the original who are invested in the world building and characters, this game will come off as a spit to your face and a waste of 30 hours of your life. If you're a casual fan that are in it for the gameplay then have fun.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finished the game yesterday and honestly, I'm just frustrated. I played TLOU 1 for the first time in 2014 (the remastered edition) and I loved it, so I was very hyped when the sequel was announced. The thing is this game is just awful. I was able to avoid all mayor spoilers but if I knew this was going to be this bad, I wouldn't have spent 70 dollars in this crap.
    SPOILERS BELOW

Now, to start, the graphics are great but the gameplay is pretty much like in TLOU1 with some new additional mechanics. They could've changed the general gameplay in those 7 years between 1 and 2, but after all, it works. Those are the only things "good" things I can say about this game.

    Now, why the game sucks.
Just within the first 2/3 hours not only does the game has major plot holes, but it kills Joel. Literally, it just kills him in the worst way possible. The problem with this is that Joel is the best character of the first game, and to have him killed of like that just sucks. Joel's death is the reason why Ellie sets out on a revenge quest... which hardly feels as one. Not a single moment makes you feel like you are avenging Joel, it just feels like Ellie going in a killing rampage just because of the sake of it.

Then there is the problem with Ellie. My issue isn't with her being a lesbian. No, the problem is that she is not the likable and compelling character that she was in the first game, her personality is weak and she's just a plain, unlikable teenager that kills people. She is no longer that great character that transformed Joel in the first game. Apart from that, the game sets her in a revenge quest, in which she kills lots of people in order to reach and kill Abby(Joel's killer) only to let her go because, apparently, violence is bad (even tho you've just killed hundreds of people in the last 24 hours). It makes the game pointless and it sucks, because the ONLY person you really wanted to kill is the only one that you can't, it's just crap.

Other issue with this game is the hole Abby thing. The fact that you must use her as a character half of the time sucks. Why would I want to play as Joel's killer? She's a bad character and it's impossible to enjoy playing as her. I bought the game to play with either Joel or Ellie, not this crappy character.

And finally, in consequence of this, the game ends up being just... violence, which for a 24-hour game ends up being repetitive. The first one was violent, sure, but it also had great storytelling, great characters and character development. This game lacks one of the best things about its predecessor that is the relationship between Joel and Ellie.

I waited this game for years and for them to make such a terrible one just disappointed me. They introduced a new, awful character who you are forced to play with, destroyed Ellie's character and killed off Joel, their best character, in the worst and stupidest way possible. The story ended up being crap and ruined what could've been one of the best franchises in videogame history. I’m giving this game a 2 instead of a 1 only because of the gameplay and graphics. Do yourself a favour and don't buy it, save that money.

The story of The Last of Us has been with me ever since I finished the first game. That particular game for me was a 10 out of 10. Going into the sequel after years of anticipation, well needless to say the game had a huge bar to overcome. I was one of the people who had the game spoiled for me and I was also super upset about some of the events that took place. But with that having been said and after completing the story twice heres my takeaway. The pros of this game are that of the gameplay and obviously the graphics. The mixed aspects of this game would be the story as it's either one you're going to either love or hate, personally I loved it for the most part. The cons for me would be that I felt as though the story went on for far to long and I can think of about three times the game could have ended hours before the actual end. The games obviously not perfect but its definitely not a 0 or 4 either. I gave it an 8 because personally I believe the good far outweighs the bad with astronomical highs followed by occasional lows here and there. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The only positive aspect of this game is the graphics which look really good.

However that's in no way going to make this a good game because it's just messed up beyond all recognition. If you loved the first game like I did you will find nothing but disappointment here.
While I do hate that political correctness has been injected into this game in various ways it's not the main reason to not play it, that goes to the terrible writing and direction that the story takes.
The characters of Joel and Ellie are nothing like they were, they're now both clueless and senseless idiots, Abby is not likeable or sympathetic to trying to force players to like her is ridiculous, Joel's death wasn't unexpected but goddamn it was so poorly done that it was nothing less than insulting and the ending was probably the second worst part, after the golf scene, because it doesn't do anything. Nobody learns anything, no revenge is completed (except Abby's) and now we're just expected to leave everything unresolved and be happy with it cos "Joel plays guitar so everything is alright."
Naughty Dog has ruined this game for political ideology, a story that is not deep, interesting, well written, artistic or clever, it's terrible messaging and it's complete lack of understanding of why people loved this franchise. The character interaction and development is gone and spat in our faces.
    Terrible, terrible game.

(And before you say it's because I'm a bigot or right wing or anything like that, read it again. The main negativity is the story and how it was written.)

The game seemed amazing at first and even Joel's death didn't make me dislike the game because I thought like many others that the devs would have utilised his death to make an amazing revenge story(We was wrong). Later on you play as Abby, the killer of Joel, for quite a significant amount of time. This completely made me lose interest in the games story because I didnt care for Abby as a character at all really. Later on I realised that Joel was dropped into scenes in the trailer, where in the game he wasn't even in them scenes and he was replaced by other characters. Naughty Dog has really flopped with this one and I think they should pull the game from stores and do the fans right by changing the story.

In contrast this game states everything is black or white while quite literally spitting on the first games legacy. Pointless Brutality which got old and very hard to watch very quickly. Safe to say I'll be trading this game in for something better (Any other Game.)

Despite the spoilers that were put on the network before the release, I really liked this game. You can’t be like that. Ellie as the main character is no worse, but no better, as for me. After playing the whole game, I will not call it bad for sure. This is the same game that I was waiting for, and those people who call it terrible and other things are better not to listen to, they did not even really play a game that lasts 18-20 hours with a leisurely passage. No matter how much I like the game, I will not give it the highest rating, and I will not call it bad. It is worth your attention for sure, there are so many references to the first part, so much love is invested in this game, although for this it should be respected. Expand

This long awaited game has been absolutely destroyed by terrible story writing. Naughty Dog pushed their virtue signalling ideologies into this game instead of focusing on the story. To add insult to injury they blame bad reviews on anti-LGBT that dislike playing as a female. That is a complete lie and the furthest thing from the truth.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The Graphics are good... for the ps4
I know many people dont like the ending but i think it was awesome. Its not a satisfying happy end but its a good one.

There are only two things that i dont like:
The Ai is sometimes very dump. I mean like you stand in front of them and they wont see you dump...
And you play 1/3 of the game as Abby.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is clear that the game is being bombarded with negative critics, by people that have not played the game or did play it but rushed through it. I got to be honest, I was disappointed when I first finished the game, I went in expecting a continuation of Joel and Ellie's story and instead got Ellie and Abby's story. I decided to give it a second try and it made me realize this game is a lot better than people make it out to be.

It is hard to make the "antagonist" of the game likeable, but ND pulled it off IMO showing Abby's side. It could have been better planned, by maybe showing Abby's side BEFORE killing Joel. Also, I believe Joel's death was more than deserved, he got his comeuppance for his actions in the first game. I was extremely sad when it did happen, but I can see why Abby did it and I would have done the same thing if I was on her shoes.

Ellie's side of the story was my favorite part of the game, specially the flashbacks. Dina is a great character that compliments Ellie pretty well. I'm just sad we didn't get to know Jessie better: The WLF and the Seraphites are great factions and I believe that they even surpass the Fireflies from the first game. The ending was bittersweet to say the least, as I was left stunned for the rest of the credits, twice. It leaves the door open for a possible third game, this time about redemption and peace.

The gameplay is better compared to the first game and the graphics are top notch, almost next-gen like. Music and sound are stellar as usual.

I highly recommend to play this game without seeing any of the trailers, as they will trick you into thinking the game is about Joel and Ellie when it isn't.

With everything being said, I believe this game is a step behind from the masterpiece that the first game was. The plot could've been executed better, but you gotta give ND credit for trying something new with a beloved franchise like TLOU is.

    Real score: 9.3

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is incredibly different to its predecessor, and I’m not mad about it. I absolutely adored the first game, played it through countless times and watched endless play throughs, and became entirely attached to Ellie and Joel’s characters. In this game we unfortunately [spoiler] see Joel get his head caved in by a woman named Abby as Ellie is forced to watch, this scene made me feel sick and I sobbed. Immediately I HATED Abby. However that’s what ND wants, they want us to hate her for killing such a loved character in gaming...
Ellie then sets out on her revenge mission and in my opinion the story telling is phenomenal. There is a part where [spoiler] Ellie has to torture a woman named Nora in order to find Abby, as she returns to base she’s in bits, shaking, trembling, traumatised, and I have to say that’s one of the first times I’ve seen someone in a video game react in a normal way after having to torture someone

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is massive garbage. I'm not saying this because I'm against transgendar, lesbians, or being gay. I'm saying this because the story is garbage. The last of us 2 killed the story to the first to represent female empowerment and LBGTQ. Personally I do think they need more representation all in all, but to force this element in the game just because you know critics will give it a 10/10 (if they don't their automatically homosexual, see above Metacritic score) is just disgusting. I **** you not, this game really opened my eyes on the integrity of critics. I'm disappointed, and this will be the last game I purchase from Naughtydog. Expand

The ending paints their relationship beautifully and I would give it a perfect 10 if it weren't for the ambiguity of ellie's ending and where she's going, I'd of liked to see her having some light at the end of the tunnel but hopefully part 3 can expand on that because it definitely left room for it. This game deserves no where near the reaction its getting and hopefully in time people can see that Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics are top notch. Gameplay is pretty much the same as the first game, which is still great but not very groundbreaking. The problems lie with the story. The relationship between Ellie and Dina is portrayed very well, but the treatment of Joel does feel like a slap in the face to someone invested in this series. Naughty Dog has tried to make us sympathetic with the character Abby who kills Joel, but this part of the story is grossly mishandeled. After this, the player is then forced to play half of the game as Abby who is a flat and unlikable character even with the issues pertaining to Joel aside. Huge dissappointment after a 7 year wait. I cannot understand the positive reviews by the game review companies, as I have not talked to a single person who feels anything but betrayed by this sub-par story offering by Naughty Dog. Expand

And for almost 40 percent of the game i'm playing as a character I don't care about and would rather see jump of a cliff anytime I am given the opportunity.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
