    Naughty Dog just ruined the franchise! They killed off Joel and ruined Ellie coupled with a terrible story. And for the most of the game, you play as Joel's killer. WTF Neil cuckmen and Sony!

    Joel died because he had to, maybe all of you didn’t realize that he was de enemy of the entire planet with a simple lie to the savior who had the cure, he went against the will of Ellie and kill innocents in the midway I obviously would have chosen the same but is wrong thing ‘cause we r thinking with the heart and not with the head.

Don't take my word for it, go watch gameplay videos on YouTube (from real gamers, not the shills), before you decide to buy--you'll be glad you did.

    Okay, so what's the long version...

    The Last of Us (what we now call "part 1") was an amazing game! I purchased a PS4 just for that game (I wait for the remastered version and it was totally worth it)! The game had excellent graphics, fantastic sound (effects and music), and absolutely solid gameplay. However, where The Last of Us really shined was in the fantastic story line. The best games are the ones which make you feel like a participant in a really good movie, and that's exactly what The Last of Us did. You really cared about Joel and Ellie, and couldn't wait to find out what happens next.

    We got the answer.

    So, let's be fair and start with the GOOD.
    Like part 1, the sequel provides beautiful graphics and level environments. Likewise, sounds is also good. The gameplay is also still solid with some decent improvements that add to the game. And that's about it.

    Now for the BAD.
    [SPOILERS]
    As I said, the story is EVERYTHING. For about the first couple of hours, the store was good. Then, a train wreak happens. Joel is killed in one of the stupidest scenes I've ever seen! After saving Abby from a horde of zombies and returning her home, they all walk into a back room and all of a sudden, Abby shoots him in the leg. She then has her men put a tourniquet on his leg, and then immediate proceeds to beat him to death with a golf club in front of Ellie (yes, it's as stupid as it sounds!). It was like one of the devs was watching Game of Thrones re-runs and decided they wanted to have a shocking and unexpected death scene for a main character because... reasons. And Joel, the guy who went through heII and back to save Ellie, now just sits there and takes it. It was little more than shock-porn and leaves the player rolling their eyes and wondering if they even want to continue playing. The story is a complete mess from that point forward, and the player is often pigeon-holed into doing stuff (often stuff that they really don't want to do) just to move the story forward.

    And this is why the game is such a complete failure. In the first game, you cared about Joel and Ellie and wanted to see what happens next. The gameplay and story were compelling and, like a great book, you were hard-pressed to put it down. The one, however, burns all that to the ground within the first two hours of gameplay. You quickly get to a point where you simply don't care about the story anymore. Joel died pointlessly, and now Ellie is on a quest for revenge (honestly, there was more depth in John Wick's quest for vengeance!). So what happens? She kills everyone involved EXCEPT Abby... she let's her live in what can only be described as a giant middle-finger to fans of the first game.

    And that's assuming you actually play to the end. I would be willing to bet that most people will only play a few hours, and then never finish the game because, when they think about firing it up again, they are like, "Meh."    … Expand

    I almost excused naughty dogs abhorrent behavior trying to silence people into not saying anything critical about the game. I am not able to make it past the half way point in the game without it pushing a rusty story line and woke agenda. Will be trying to get a refund. This is most definitely pro SJW garbage that i can not get behind what Neil Druckmann was thinking is beyond me.

It used to be a story about finding happiness in a post-apocalyptic setting, and now it's just your run-of-the-mill, poorly written revenge story. Every single event (apart from Joel-Ellie related flashbacks) felt unsatisfying, especially the 2nd part of the game where you're forced to play as one of the new characters, Abby, just to make her seem somewhat lovable. Her story and interactions are so awful it only made me hate her more. How can you be that bad at character development...

    The game culminated in one of the worst, poorly written, least satisfying endings I've ever gotten to see. This game is a hard pass for any fan of TLOU1, or well, anyone for that matter.    … Expand

    This Story is just insulting... they could have at least done these big character changes and events in a meaningful way. It just feels so cheap and dumb. Gameplay and Graphics are okay but nothing special for such a title. How can this game get anything over 70.. They must have not played the first one or any other Thirdperson Storyfocused game. Just play Tomb Raider and skip this.

    I already don't like it. As well-made as it is, as beautiful as it is, and as much a step up in terms of gameplay as it is, the game itself is not (so far) a worthy successor to The Last of Us. I shouldn't be made to feel bad for my actions in a game when I have zero choices as to how to act.

    The Last of Us was the best game of the last generation, The Last of Us 2 is the best game of this generation. There was a lot of competition - Spider-Man, Horizon: Zero Dawn, God of War - but TLOU2 beat them all. It's been such a great generation for gaming. At least if you owned a PS4. If you didn't, this generation was horrible. The characters in this game seem out of place, they did have good casting however compared to the game like Horizon or the Netflix Witcher series. But this game had no "feeling" to the storyline. What made the first game great was the bonding of two characters and the development. This game felt so empty, I felt more confused with the characters as the story progress. I never expected that I have to write this around 3 AM from where I am because this is too much. First, great visuals, animations, sound, music, environment, design, as always Naughty Dog pushing the game's engine to reach the fullest potential of the PS4's capabilities (Not pro). * HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD*

    Straight to the point on why I'm giving it 1/10 for the story. (TLOU1 was good because of the writing, not much on the gameplay.) They really tried to mix things up, like how it usually happens in the 'good' movies or films, books or shows. I am in for it and I was already anticipating Joel's death even then when the very first teaser for this game came out. In this sequel, you're going to play as Ellie and Abby. Both characters are going to be involved in revenge (although Abby did it first right away). You'll be able to play as Abby for the next half of the game. Naughty Dog wants you to build empathy for a character that killed your main character. It's a really good concept but it's beyond ignorance as to what they're really trying to achieve here. Antagonist Main Character? Sure you can give me that, Playing as the antagonist because you'll have to accept her "revenge" to your protagonist and empathize with her? No. Big no. Building up empathy for the "antagonist" is like building up empathy for ignorants/murderers allowing your citizens to die from the real world pandemic/police brutality.

    For Joel and Ellie:

    Joel got killed in the very first 2hrs of the game (IDK how long, prob even less than 2hrs). Basically, the story was already being set up as a revenge plot. Joel is the key to the revenge plot (forgive me, I love Joel as a character, He and Ellie were the reasons why TLOU1 was great). Now, Ellie was ready for that, and even Tommy was. Let's face it, the game was pulling an LGBTQ card right from the beginning (I'm being sensitive, hear me out). I don't care any of that, Ellie can always be who/how she wants to be (Same goes for everyone out there who's LGBTQ). Shouldn't have taken the political route. What else were they pulling in the game? SJW. (Yes, you've read this from other reviews already). Well, guess what, for 20+ hrs you'll be playing a massacre, killing every single one of the enemies who're Washington Liberation Front except for one character that killed Joel because why would you, right? Why would you kill someone who killed your father-like figure right? That's wrong, killing is bad but only after you've killed like 100 of them and letting go the one you played to kill for the whole game. I guess that's ethical and merciful.

    No, you do not set up a revenge plot and not giving it to the end. What's the whole Joel death thing for? (and those you killed with all the graphic/gore?) "He just died because it's life, just kind of like how reality works." It's basically what Naughty Dog is trying to teach us here. The lesson is to kill everyone and only to realize that it's not right and so Ellie let go of Abby.

    Fantastic story! Great ending! Way to just steal people's money for selling a plot we all thought how it was going down. Great job Neil Druckmann, I feel like you and your team just want to end Naughty Dog's reign as part of the SIE. No wonder why it had to be released before PS5.     This is a story based game with one of the worst stories I've ever experienced. It is bleak, nonsensical and leaves one feeling hollow by the end. It disappoints on so many levels and any fan of the first game will not just be let down but insulted. Save your $60 for something more deserving.

    Sadly this has now migrated into video games. Graphics are great, gameplay very similar to the 1dt one.. But ffs, keep the agendas & propoganda out of games. For this reason I shut the game off and gave it away

Stupid woke politics are very obnoxious too. Only nice thing I could say is high graphical fidelity, but that's blah these days and doesn't make up for same-y gameplay.     Its just an interesting game on my part, it let's you know in the world we living, even heroes die, just like in game of thrones. So however painful your favourite characters killed off are, you can use that to judge a game, but it is what it is. P.S: Majority of those posting up here haven't even played a quarter of the game before the posted on here. It's just sad.

    Because just if you make the villain some minority it    Sooo this is a game.

It also feels like the shocking stuff in this game is just there to shyamalan twist you and feels forced. Overall I had fun. But the experience was average compared to the 1st games extraordinary story. I would still recommend buying if you enjoyed the first one but I personally regret not waiting for a price drop as this game does nothing as extravagant and eye catching as the first. The graphics are top notch tho and gorgeous so if that's why you play games this is a must, but I assume you are like me and graphics fall in importance behind story and gameplay. Honestly I had fun playing, but I probably wouldn't play thru again...     Though The Last of us Part two sports some of the most amazing graphics and sound design on the platform, with satisfying combat to compliment it. Its story is cheaply written with many unearned moments displayed in such an in your face manner that many would consider insulting as fans of the series.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 presents one of the most beautiful and detailed renditions of a post apocalyptic world probably in any form of media ever. The gameplay is very similar to the first game, but is expanded upon and very solid. These areas of the game are easily a 10/10 and we should appreciate the work that went into creating this world by the hard work of those at Naughty Dog despite shortcomings in the story. My biggest complaint about the story is how it retcons the original while the characters are dumbed down. For example, one of the biggest moral dilemmas in the original game was Joel’s choice to save Ellie from being killed to possibly create a cure. Audio logs in the game, however, make it clear that the chances of making a cure are bad (for context, we don’t have a cure for fungal infections in real life) and even if possible, the prospects of the Fireflies being competent enough to manufacture and distribute such a cure are even lower. The second game completely retcons this by making it seem as if a cure were guaranteed somehow, ignoring the rules and science established in the game and real world. Thus, Joel’s morally grey decision is replaced with ‘Joel take cure from world, Joel bad.’ Unfortunately, retroactively dumbing down the plot of the original game isn’t the limit of this game’s story. The story is disjointed and makes the mistake of trying to tell a simple story through complex means. The story boils down to ‘revenge bad’ but the story writers thought it necessary to introduce a new playable character and flashbacks within flashbacks to make us somehow understand why the developers made the decision to kill the most beloved character from the first game. This all fails and leaves the ending feel undercooked. I think they wanted us to feel empathy for Abby somehow but she is disliked by literally every character in the story and players irl. However, Abby’s story arch is completely asynchronous to the theme of the story and conflicts completely with the dark outcome for Ellie. I don’t know what the writers were thinking introducing a new player character. It’s been tried before in Metal Gear Solid 2&5, Halo 2&5, and if the pattern holds in the Last of Us 2 &5. In each of these instances the writers failed to give the player more of what they liked in the original by forcing them to play as a character they don’t care about. The only instance of this working I can think of is Red Dead Redemption 2 with the introduction of Arthur Morgan but that was helped by the fact you had a level of autonomy over the moral choices Arthur makes along with the fact that the sequel adds to the story of the original, not retracting from it. In summary, everything but the story is good. It might be worth playing eventually once it drops in price but the game length is short to begin with along with the fact the story is underwhelming and destroys a lot of your motivation to progress through the game.… Expand

    Perhaps this game's greatest flaw is how f-ing boring it is. This is ~20 hours long, most of which is spent in excruciating boredom of slow, poor stealth gameplay, slow salvaging of resources in empty abandoned places, stumbling through graphically detailed, but mostly artistically deprived environments.

    This is pretty much tlou1 gameplay, marginally improved but also spread over 20 hours like not enough bread over too much butter. This is stealth, but not good stealth, just meh stealth. This is action, but not good action, just meh. And all of it is slow, heavy, pointless and preachy.

    This game seems to have some of the top graphics for a console game, especially when it comes to characters and their animations in cutscenes. The environments can look absolutely stunning at times, but what most people don't mention is that this only happens at times, at specifically defined eyecandy places. Apart from those specific picturesque scenic points, most of the environments you will have the unfortune to traverse will be boring and realistically ugly to look at. Case and point, don't expect this journey to be a pure eyecandy like God of War. When it comes to detail and realism - maybe, but not when it comes to artistic value.

    This is supposed to be story driven, except the story is so shallow in comparison to the first game, it's not even funny. This is just a revenge plot, nothing more. There are elements of romantic relationships, but they don't go anywhere and are just a marginal decoration to the revenge plot.
    Someone kills somebody, somebody goes after the killer, somebody fails and then fails again, the end. It's that simple. It's not about human relationships, not about bonding, not about opening up to each other or finding the light in darkness. It's about pettily getting back at people. Such touching themes, right? Compare this shallow **** to the first game now...

    But this is still a drop in the ocean compared to how poorly previously established characters are handled here. They are essentially different people wearing the skin of someone we knew. Imagine GOT S8 level of character mismanagement, and I don't just mean Daenerys, because literally no character had their integrity by the end of the show. This is what this game is, everyone is making decisions detached from their established personality and sometimes even detached from their situation. It's ridiculous.

    So whereas the first game had a good story to justify its unremarkable gameplay, this story justifies nothing and simply compounds the flaws.

    This absolutely doesn't deserve a 10/10. Not because there are gay people, but because it all is such a step down compared to a 7 year old game. This is boring, insufferable, petty, naive, pseudo-deep and unimaginative.

    1 point further deducted for the marketing lies of ND and Sony, and their absolute abhorrent behavior when it comes to employee treatment, free discussion and dmca abuse. This game was not worth it all.    … Expand

One the best games 4 years ago became the worst game i ever played hands down and i refuse to play with other character.

    Abby would have been better character if they didn't set up the death in that context, the storytelling is bad and upside down, it could have been done midway or above through a different way where you make players love Abby too but then **** goes down, and you could have made the fight between the two is mixed like she kicks Abby and you blink and you are taking control of Abby now and then like that until it fit more sensibly, this was poor taste, this plot is ok but not in that arrangement, i wish i love to play Abby i liked her but the **** her story tooooooooooooooooooooooooo early, i dont care about SJW stuff in the game as long as i enjoy the game, but i hated how they told the story and how they ended joel story, they should have made people love Abby in gameplay with her time then make the player torn when the times is up, not like that im sad.

    1 for effort and graphics. Storytelling is horrible i expected to be way more than oh this guy is dead he was like father to me let's revenge him.

    What a lousy story coming from part 1, I came in not reading any spoilers or watching any of the leaks as I got rid of all my social media for this game. I mean the game looks good but so did The Order 1886 and Killzone Shadowfall

    After waiting almost 7 years, this is a huge disappointing...Great animations, lighting, models. but poor / lazy writing. Skip it and don`t waste your money.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
