Naughty Dog tried their best to make you feel something for her. Nope didn’t work still hate that **** and **** you whoever decided to include this **** in this game for so long.     Abby and Lev are incredibly boring in addition to being a Joel and Ellie 2.0, PS: It was not necessary to put so much flashback that they do not explain anything besides how much sex the characters have, it has a horrible pre pubert essence, you have to be between 13 to 15 years and your pants are burning for sex so you like it

    5 years i've been waiting for this game, and when it finally released they hit us with the most bland and predictable story ever.
    Altough the graphics are amazing, the soundtrack is damn near perfect and the combat is basicly the same as the first last of us (bit dissapointing) i just cant bring myself to give this a higher rating, the story is just so disturbingly bad.

    The plot of TLOU2 is absolute diarrhea. Joel dies 2 hours into the game after naively going into the house of total strangers (being an old and experienced survivor in the apocalypse we'd expect some brighter thinking), beaten to death with a golf club by the super buff and masculine Abby, whose life he saved from the infected not 5 minutes earlier, because he killed her father who was a surgeon of the fireflies. All in front of Ellie who later leaves for Seattle, where Abby came from, in search for revenge.
    The problem is that Ellie never gets her revenge because, when she's finally about to kill Abby after Abby bit two fingers off of her hand, she has a flash of Joel playing the guitar and that stops her. This happens some time after Abby had killed Jesse, shot Tommy in the face and almost cut Dina's throat in the same event. Yes, it's just as dumb as it sounds...
    The game forces you to play a 10 hour section as Abby from when her father was still alive to the point when she kills Jesse and shots Tommy. Up next there's a boss fight against Ellie and you have to beat her up using Abby's steroid fueled fists until Dina comes to the rescue with a knife (apparently she forgot she had a gun) and is shot in the shoulder by Lev, the little girl who identifies as a boy or whatever. Again it's just as dumb as it sounds.
    The whole story really is about Ellie killing people for revenge and feeling bad about it and Abby being generally a bad person, having sex with a guy who has a pregnant wife (disgusting scene by the way) and later killing her own WLF friends and acquaintances to save Lev's life.
    So not only Joel was killed in a disgraceful manner and you'll barely get 90 minutes of gameplay with him but you'll be forced to play as the genuinely unlikable, ruthlessly bad and masculine looking woman who killed him and the game will try so hard to make you feel for her by showing you her perspective. And to make matters worse, she doesn't die in the end (thought that was the Ellie's purpose?).

    I watched the leaks when they came out so I knew about Joel's death and everything but, as the game is about 25 hours long, I gave it the benefit of the doubt thinking that would fit the narrative and Naughty Dog wouldn't mess up the game so badly but that's exactly what happened.
    To be fair the game has lots of significant improvements in terms of graphics and gameplay but in my opinion they are overshadowed by the terrible story which is so full of plot holes, uninteresting, badly written and incredibly boring. I also hated to play as Abby and particularly Ellie boss fight so much that I finished the game only because I spent money.
    If you don't mind the plot I think you'll enjoy TLOU2, but I didn't so I've uninstalled it and I'll give it a 0 for making me sorry I wasted my money on this crap.    … Expand

    This game suffers from bad writing and it shows , If it wasn’t for the gameplay this game would of been 100% trash. Yes the story is the weakest part of this entire game , but the gameplay along side the visuals are the best part of this game by a land slide. Theres only one thing that could've changed this entire game and that's choice, I can deal with joel being brutally murdered but to then force the player to just let it go in the end completely ruined the entire game for me. What was the point of the whole journey of revenge if you're not going to finish what you started. Now I understand what the devs were going for, a story about the cycle of revenge and in the end ellie breaks the cycle by forgiving Abby. However having spent an entire game previously playing as joel and to kill him off so early in part 2 and to just expect players to be ok with letting Abby go just because she saved a kid, no for me I wouldve drowned Abby given the choice and avenged joel. Then the ending wouldve made sense, Ellies in the house trying to play the guitar. But she cant because shes missing her fingers and so she leaves it behind, that would symbolize that she has avenged joel but at a cost and now it's time to move on. But nope this "dark" vengeance driven game has to have a happy ending where everyone but joel gets to live, oh and jessie doesnt but ah no one really cares about him . I would much rather have this whole game not happen rather than keeping Abby alive for what I can only assume will be a spin off game or sequel it's just such a shame naughty dog went in this direction with the story. The gameplay however is brutal, gritty and very tense and the graphics are some of the best I've ever seen but those amazing features cannot carry a game that's premise is storytelling and on that front in my opinion it has fallen short I love the representation of minorities in this game and the accessibility has to be commended but there is noticeable intrusions with this like how male characters will not open doors for you, you have to do it yourself they'll just wait by the door because god forbid if they opened the door for you. Also little things like when owen helps Abby up a ledge she pulls a face behind his back as if to represent she can do it herself she doesnt need his help, but when dina helps ellie up she says thanks and smiles just little things like that idk maybe I'm reading to much into that. To summarise looks great, plays great (although gets a little repetitive in places), however the story falls short because of its conclusion and if they had given a choice to players whether to kill or spare Abby it wouldve solved the whole issue because it plays to both sides but as someone who wanted to fully avenge joel I was not satisfied. There are maybe other solutions like structuring the sorry differently but still a sequel that delivers in every way apart from the story.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've never got conflicted like this before about anything in my life.

    First of all like most people agrees, the gameplay, the visuals, the sound effects and the character animations are the best I've ever seen in a game. The attention to detail is top notch like it is in every ND title. Also I don't understand the people who call the AI "incompetent" as I can't even remember how many times Dina saved my skin or the Rattlers got me cornered in a very smart way. Not even talking about the brilliant redesign of the stalkers, leaving the iconic clickers in the shadow.

    I have absolutely nothing but praising NaughtyDog about those aspects.

    The problems start with the story, obviously.

    When I put everything aside, I asked myself only one question after finishing the game. "If I played the first game with Abby and her father instead of Joel and Ellie, would I hate Ellie and Joel as much as I did Abby in this game?"

    Honestly, the answer was yes. What Joel did in the ending of the first game ruined the firefly communities lives and condemned any kind of hope those characters had. Every bad decision they made for this cause was for in vein and their existence became purposeless. So I understand where she comes from and I would 100% root for Abby had I played the first game with her.

    The problem is, we didn't play as her. We don't know her as much as we do Joel. Except Owen and Alice, I really didn't feel anything about the other characters around Abby. Lev and Yara were a nice touch as well but again feels a bit short compared to the side characters we had in the first game (eg. Tess/Henry).

    I think this game would be an easy 10/10 if it was the 3rd title of the series, had we played with Abby on second game, had they fleshed out the new cast better, it could have been a solid trilogy.

    That being said, I still enjoyed the game. Except the 3 parts/decisions, I can't stress enough how much I hate those 3, I liked the game. It was a "not fun" revenge epic and I felt somewhat satisfied with the ending. Honestly the ending was exactly how I wanted it to be but the part where Ellie let's her go felt a bit weak, it's one of the 3 issues I had with it. At least have them have a short conversation or give Ellie more flashbacks where she remembered who she was and stopped before it consumed her innocence entirely. Let us feel it a bit more instead of saying "people will get what we want to tell at this point". When I first saw Abby hanging it made me feel sick and sorry for her. In the last fight every punch I hit to her was a long hard decision for me. Every time I saw the desperation in her eyes, it was beautifully horrific. Yet again, just watching the last cutscene, I don't know why Ellie let her go. I can fill in the blanks by using my imagination and empathy, but in that scene, you just need to do a little bit more. After putting us through an almost 30 hour horror fest, you have to give us more than that. But I agree she should have let her go because murdering someone like that is not in line with her character. When the game starts she is filled with rage and even then you can see that every bad decision she makes, leaves her in pain. She is not a stone cold killer. She only takes someone's life to defend herself and her loved ones.

    The other two part I'd want changed is how they killed Joel, and the ending of Tommy.

    I'd like to see Joel going out with at least some dignity, maybe saying "It's okay, I love you" to Ellie as his last words would be enough. That would make it more painful but at least we would know he was okay with it because inside he knew that he deserved it. Instead he gets beaten to a pulp, even if he deserves it, after 7 years of wait, I don't know, it was the point but still a tough pill to swallow.

    And about Tommy, after Ellie returns to farm the last time I'd like her to go see Tommy, Maria, Dina and JJ at Jackson. They could be sitting together on a bench and Ellie could just see all four of them together, maybe Dina would look at her and we would cut it like the first game. These 3 changes, in my opinion, would make the game much stronger.

    On a final note I never felt like the game forced any SJW or LGBT agenda to me. The main characters sexuality, religion and genders were natural.

    I finished the game once and I will keep playing it for the weeks to come. I wanted to give this game 10/10 but I can't do it in good conscious. However it stands as one of the best games I've ever played in my life.    … Expand

    I really loved the first game, like most fans. After waiting 7 years and Naughty Dog pushing the release date 3 times. It was a bitter disappointment. Especially after investing 25 hours playing it.

    The plot could have worked. But you cant skip essential parts. Like first when your "protagonist" (abby) make the decision to kill cruel you must first let us give her motivation, you must make that we really feel her emotion and can understand her decision for revenge and only to say her dad was that NPC surgeon we kill in the first game is not good enough.

    This game is a masterpiece, period. It was a risky move, but the narrative aspect of the game is so much deeper than everybody sees, the end can be polemic but no one can deny that this game is excellent, the end in my opinion is great, is not so simple like everybody thinks and it is something that the game tells you trough out the whole game in narrative, cinematics and even gameplay. AThis game is a masterpiece, period. It was a risky move, but the narrative aspect of the game is so much deeper than everybody sees, the end can be polemic but no one can deny that this game is excellent, the end in my opinion is great, is not so simple like everybody thinks and it is something that the game tells you trough out the whole game in narrative, cinematics and even gameplay.     This game does not deserve the mass hate received by all that have not even bothered to play/watch any of it (you can't play a 25+ hour game in less than 1 day). The game is beautiful and though the plot is a bit predictable with a few holes, it isn't as bad as everyone is saying. La forma tan malamente estructurada que está contada la historia, los excesos de flashbacks y, obviamente, el extraño final. Es el primer juego en muchos años que me ha dejado... vacío por dentro (el último fue bioshock infinite). Sé que la historia era oscura y eso me aumentó el hype, pero no puedo obviar el hecho de su final. Después de lo que Abby le hizo a Joel, ¿Ellie deja viva a Abby? Entiendo que es para cortar el circulo de venganza. Pero en primer lugar, ¿de qué sirvió ir a Santa Barbara para perdonarle al final la vida a Abby? En mi opinión, Ellie merecía un final más "feliz" o al menos igual de agridulce como en el primero, (o al menos que ambas muriesen, ya que estamos, incluso me lo esperaba más) pero es que este final no es, ni llega a serlo. La sensación de vacío que llevo desde que lo he terminado no me deja y me frustra.
    Gráficamente es lo mejor que he visto junto a RDR2, mecánicamente es una delicia, con los escenarios se me caía la baba de verlos y he simpatizado con casi todos los personajes secundarios de la trama, pero, como he dicho, el final.

There are numerous plot holes, like Deana magically surviving with no explanation, and no one seeming to care about Jesse being gunned down. Trailers told us that Joel would be with us on the journey but an hour in and he’s gone. The writers then take the hilarious decision to force the player to play as Joel’s killer for 10+ hours and try to gain your sympathy for her.

    And to top it off the ending is one of the most unsatisfying I’ve ever seen. To start , Abby confronts Ellie after she killed all of Abbys friends and has no one left, but decides to spare her for no apparent reason. Then when it seems Ellie has finally got revenge and killed Abby after killing a huge amount of enemies, risking her and her friends lives and travelling all across Seattle, she spares her. Naughty dog clearly thought the player would’ve gained sympathy for Abby and would be happy that neither her or Ellie were killed, but that is far from the truth.

    The Last of Us is my favourite game of all time and I’ve never been this excited for a sequel, 7 years I’ve waited just to be disappointed and angry after playing what felt like a chore for several hours. I do not recommend this game to anyone except hard core Naughty dog fans but I’m sure they will be just as disappointed as I was when the credits roll.    … Expand

Man, Neil Druckmann ruined this game, he completely **** up this game. First he kills at the very beginning your favorite character in a very nonsense and stupid way. Next he makes you play with the girl that assassinated Joel. And finally when Ellie have killed dozens of people that have nothing to do with Joel to get where Abby is, Ellie don't ****ing kill her, because she realized that revenge is bad??? Wtf Neil Druckmann, why the **** dose she has to realize that after killing dozens of people before Abby? So you want to teach me a lesson that revenge is bad but only if you kill the person that you want to kill? So you are telling me that killing all of the ****ing friends of the person that you want to kill is not bad and killing dozens of people to get to Abby is not bad, BUT killing Abby is bad??     I have played through the first Last Of Us countless times and that game is held as my favorite of all time. For naughty dog and Neil druckman to ruin this series with this awful story is DISGRACEFUL. They let politics intervene with the amazing relationship of Joel and ellie naughty dog you should be ashamed graphics and gameplay is good.

    For me, any installment following the first Last of Us would live and die based on its story alone. The gameplay is much the same as it was before and has improved along with graphics. Voice actors and music are excellent.     I went in with the expectation that this game would be reminiscent of the first game in terms of narrative quality and character development. I could accept it if they dropped the ball slightly on both of those aspects, but they dropped the ball so low that if this is the quality I can expect Naughty Dog will produce in the future, then they have assuredly lost another customer . Its not just the direction they have decided to go with for this installment but the sheer amount of glaring plot holes and disrespectful re-characterizations that have been done to create the illusion of a meaningful plot and destroy the attachment you may have had to the previous cast of characters. I won’t even go into the gameplay-story dissonance that occurs.

    If characters, narrative quality, pacing, character development and general storytelling are something you valued in the first game, then do not bother playing this. If you feel its something you just have to play for yourself, then borrow it from a friend or buy it at a discount.    … Expand
