    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The only good thing about this game is the environmental design, graphics, and gameplay. I enjoyed running around collecting things, finding letters from people that gave the world a bit more life and tragedy to it, cracking the codes for safes, the rope puzzles, the up-close and in your face combat when you would melee or dodge someone. For all of that alone it earns a 2 from me.

    The storytelling on the other hand... it's awful. Absolute garbage compared to the first game. After Joel was killed I was eager to get revenge, so when the confrontation between Abby and Ellie came I was ready for some fight scene to break out with our girl coming out the winner... instead you're forced to spend several long hours playing as Abby. Why? I asked myself that a lot. I hate her character, I hate the way she looks, I hate what she did to Joel, so why is that game putting all of these obstacles in my way in a weak and sh*t attempt to try and make her seem like a good person, and make the player feel bad for her?

    By the time I finally caught up with where I left off as Ellie, you watch and play from Abby's point of view as she kills Jesse and puts a bullet in Tommy's head, and then stalks Ellie around the theatre. Ellie is equipped to her teeth with weapons and Abby is unarmed but somehow YOU'RE FORCED TO BEAT THE SH*T OUT OF ELLIE and nearly kill Dina, and right as this hulking monstrosity of a character is about to kill them, they are saved by the transgender kid that Abby befriended somewhere along the line.

    Fast forward a few months and Ellie, Dina, and their child JJ live on a farmhouse somewhere. We're forced to play through a slice of life that honestly feels extremely out of place, and watch cringe interactions between them. Then we're shown Ellie has PTSD from Joel's death and the **** that went down in Seattle. Tommy comes over (who apparently isn't dead) and talks to Ellie about chasing down Abby... AGAIN. Ellie leaves in the middle of the night.

    The ending is sh*t, this game is sh*t I wish it was never made, the story feels like it was written by an angsty twelve-year-old, and after I was forced to play as Abby repeatedly I lost all my motivation and interest.    … Expand

    I have played through the whole game

    Abby tortured and executed joel for pleasure, and never felt sorry. How can you side with a character like that?

    How to fix it:

    Let joel be a bigger part of the start of the game.

    Let joel be held at gun point in to the room.

    Dont torture joel, just shot him in the leg and let him have a final word to elle, before he get shot in the head.

    In abbys story find a way to make abby show she have
    sympathy for elle some how (Elle did kill all her friends, so i dont know how)

    Elles last flashback when trying to kill Abby :
    Elle: "If you ever got killed i will still go on a killing spree, to kill the people responsible"
    Joel: "I dont want you to do that, i dont deserve that, after how i lied to you and killed the fireflies" or something like that.

Yes, I know this story feels like a lame plot to excuse the point of a sequel but im taking into the cinsideration the amount of detail and effort into this game for a 9. The graphics, are amazing, and it runs so well on the base ps4. Im a pc gamer and WISH we had optimization like what they do. Now for my favorite part of the game, is the gameplay. It is one of the best controlled third person games I have ever played, there is no delay in movement like in gta 5 and the gameplay is so damn smooth, the mechanics and movement animations are flawless and fall right into place right after each other. I usually would never say this about a naughty dog but omg I come back to this game JUST for the gameplay. Its amazing and looks amazing.… Expand

    so so sooooo dissapointed with this game. i dont know why did they expect when they killed joel, made us play as abby who we are supposed to hate because she did nothing good for our beloved characters, ellie lost everything she had in the end. what was that game about? abby? hell no. company were pushing agenda of women too hard.     Visual, graphic and gameplay is a masterpiece that surpasses the first. But where the big mistake is the script, everyone expected Joel's death to be epic and being a hero to the end but instead he dies for a damn golf club, then they try to empathize with his murderer but they don't succeed, since the player only wants revenge and in the end they don't even let us do it.

Todas as críticas negativas que vi vieram de crianças, que não conseguiram a entender a complexidade que o jogo nos trai, que buscam incansavelmente a ideia de um JOEL super-herói. Além disso, diversos comentários homofóbicos, enraivecidos pela representativa que o jogo traz. An interesting and thought-provoking entry into Naughty Dog's long line of fantastic games, The Last of Us Part II dares to challenge traditional notions of good-versus-bad, and raises questions of moral relativism and the role of video games as an art form.

    To get it out of the way; yes, you play a large amount of the game as Abby, the largely-despised ex-firefly from *that* major story leak. This section begins with a cut-to-black following a cliffhanger, followed by a 'three days earlier.' Personally, I, like a lot of players, was initially very bothered by this change. This is The Last of Us! it's the story of Joel and Ellie! Once this point is reached, you are well aware so far that Abby is, by-and-large, the absolute bad-guy of the tale. But then you explore Abby's story. You get to see that, from Abby's point of view, she was answering the fundamental question of the ending to the first game. And, with an open mind, you start to consider whether or not she is right.

    During the Abby section, we have flashbacks of her time as a firefly with her father in Salt Lake City. Yes, you know what is about to happen. Ellie, who is hunting Abby for killing her adoptive father, is now contrasted against Abby; hunting the man who selfishly killed her own father. A complex dilemma.

    Still being unsure about accepting Abby as a protagonist, I found this section of the game flew by as I was trying to get back to Ellie as soon as possible. And yet, I found myself absolutely enthralled. Abby takes it upon herself to show that there can be a large degree of ambiguity in a character's morality. Yes, she killed Joel in cold blood, but here she is risking her life to save two young runaways from a deadly and dogmatic cult. As you continue Abby's segment, the relationship between Abby and one of these runaways (Lev) begins to develop in a microcosmic parallel of Joel and Ellie's relationship.

    Soon after, we reach the same cliffhanger that was played previously from the point of view of Ellie. A fight, characterised by sneaking in the dark not unlike the fight with David from Part I, ensues, culminating in Abby holding the pregnant Dina in a precarious position, ready to slice her throat in revenge for Ellie's actions. She seems to take little issue with the morality of this action, which is a stark contrast from earlier in the story, where Ellie became distraught after realising that she had killed a pregnant woman. Yet Abby decides to be the bigger person. Helped in part by Lev's effect on her, Abby leaves Ellie to live, but reminds her that she will die if Abby sees her again.

    Here, the player is left with a question; and by now, Ellie is aware of what Joel did to Abby. Here, the player is asked whether or not it is just to consider a fool's crusade of revenge, and if they can accept letting it go.

    The next we see Ellie suggests that she chose the latter. We see the farmhouse that Dina mentioned earlier in the story, and an Uncharted 4-esque storybook epilogue. Dina has had the baby, and everything seems happy. Only, Ellie soon collapses in a PTSD-hallucination of Joel's death. After calming down and accepting that this might be the thorn that Naughty Dog leave in our sides for the ending, the epilogue yet continues. Tommy is here now, with news of Abby's location. Everything points to Ellie letting it go, leaving it behind.

    But again, the epilogue doesn't end. Ellie leaves for Santa Barbara with players shouting at their screens for her to let it go.

    And we're Abby again. She appears as an adoptive mother for Lev, and the relationship here is perhaps the most obvious parallel between Abby and Joel, Lev and Ellie. The two of them are taken prisoner soon after learning that the fireflies are still around (threequel potential? HBO series?), and we soon learn that Ellie is on their trail. Ellie catches up with Abby and frees her from her captors. We are led to believe that perhaps, Ellie might let it go. But she puts her blade to Lev's throat. She needs to finish this.

    The fight is a raw and emotional battle. Both Abby and myself are in the same frame of mind; I don't want to do this. Abby bites off her fingers in the struggle; Ellie gets the upper hand and begins drowning Abby. But it is now that Ellie sees Abby and Lev as I do. She gets a flash of Joel behind her eyes, which we later see in full detail; a conversation between Joel and Ellie. Joel asserts that he would save Ellie again if he were given the chance. Ellie realises that she has become the villain, and makes the difficult but ultimately *right* decision to let Abby and Lev go. She knows now that holding on to an existence of hate that Joel himself would never have allowed is all she has become.

    She returns to the farmhouse to find that Dina has left. Ellie's possessions are all that remains. The fight with Abby took away her ability to play guitar, her major connection with Joel. And she wordlessly conveys that is wasn't worth it.    … Expand

    I don't care what anyone says, I loved this game. There were a few bits that were upsetting but they were played out that way to make the story go towards the theme of the game, I personally recommend it but some people don't always feel the same way unfortunately :(

    O Jogo simplesmente te faz sentir coisas indescritíveis por palavras. Esse jogo é o mais próximo da realidade, coisas acontecem por acaso, o peso de uma morte está em todos os lados.
    Eu chorei em muitas cenas do jogo, fiquei ansioso e chegava a tremer mas por favor, joguem esse jogo, se interligue com ele e sinta tudo o que você deve sentir

    From a technical standpoint, the game is a masterpiece. The story is great too. Although not as good as the first one, it doesn't take away from it, if anything it improves upon it.
    Seeing the story play from two different points of view is interesting.
    Definitely would recommend.

I’m not saying the last of us 2 is an amazing game. I just don’t think it should get the hate that naughty dog is getting. I’ll be honest, the storyline is awful and Neil Drukkman did a bad job. But the gameplay never seemed to bore me and the graphics are outstanding. Yes killing Joel was the worst thing that happened in the game, but you soon find out why he died, playing as Abby wasn’t the best but if your going to make a new game there has to be BIG changes. And that’s why I’m going to give it a 7/10… Expand

The last of us part 2 was a beautiful game and very grusome and cold blodded and I love the direction they went in the story and how the relationship between Ellie and Dina grows and gets better as Ellie go on her hunt of REVENGE and I love how they let you play as Abby a character who is by far less agliy then Ellie but way stronger and a lil smarter on certain parts and I loved how you felt the difference between the two there was a few uncomfortable parts in this game I amdit but other than that it was great even tho ya did my **** Joe dirty but I felt like he had to die in tlou2 but in a more honorable way… Expand

    The thing is that i understand people’s opinion that this was a bad game... but my opinion is that this is a very good game! I feel that Naughty Dog gave us a game we did not want story-vice, but a game we needed. What a mean is you can’t please everyone, but you can make a story that you need. Just saying if you like this world play it! Just keep an open mind. This story is like the bandThe thing is that i understand people’s opinion that this was a bad game... but my opinion is that this is a very good game! I feel that Naughty Dog gave us a game we did not want story-vice, but a game we needed. What a mean is you can’t please everyone, but you can make a story that you need. Nadie perdio la cabeza cuando Ellie una niña de 12 años beso a otra niña, asi que el hecho de que sea inclusiva no es el problema. Para mi el problema de la parte II es que todos nos encariñamos con Joel y muere como si fuera un NPC mas, la parte I nos encariñamos de Joel y Ellie como equipo y quitar a un personaje asi de golpe de una forma tan burda descepciona. Este juego es como la frase de don Ramon, la venganza nunca es buena, mata el alma y la envenena. El juego te fuerza a crear empatia y a ser politicamente correcto, temas de los que estamos artos. De mi parte jamas juegare otro juego de The Last of Us que no sea la parte I porque la II fue un asco.… Expand

I saw company reviews and was a little skeptical which is why I waited until I finished the game to see how it really is. I thought the story was phenomenal but I would still change things if given the chance. For starters, Joel's death was too early in my opinion. I understand that it was thing that moved the story along but it was pretty early in the game. I think that playing as Abby was a great choice and a bold decision that was pretty brave of them. People get mad at this decision because they don't want to show sympathy to the woman that killed Joel. I dont think that the point was to show sympathy , but to make you understand where she is coming from. The only reason it's not a 10 from me is because I did feel that the story dragged at points of the game. But I loved it overall and would definitely recommend fp anyone, as long as they play the original first.… Expand

    Incredible graphics, facial expressions and level design but let down by a rubbish story, poor character development and boring, repetitive game play. TLOU had a great story but terrible game play and this isn't much better unfortunately. What a disappointment. It was a real struggle to finish this game as it's very bloated.     People complaining about the story are ridiculous. Personally I think the story is very good. It continues off of the first well and shows an honest relationship between Ellie and Joel. People don't like knowing the side of the opposition as human, seeing the leads do horrible and terrifying things.     After playing this filth for over 25 hours, staying up two days in a row to beat it and losing hours of sleep over it I feel its necessary to express myself. I am beyond disappointed, angry, sad, sick, etc. I feel betrayed. I am left wondering why and how naughty dog thought this was a good idea for a sequel. You spend half the game (12hr) playing as Ellie trying to hunt down the people that murder Joel just to get to the girl that actually killed him and loose the fight. However before the fight (that she Ellie lost), you are forced to see Abby's side of the story and play another 12 fu*king hours as the GIRL THAT MURDERED JOEL. After dragging myself through 12 hours of Abby gameplay and losing the fight we then return home as Ellie to give up for a "while". Then here we go again, she can't just stand giving up so we have to go all the way to fu*king California to find her AGAIN. Because apparently all the way to Seattle and back wasn't enough. 2 hours of gameplay later once we finally find her we had our final fight just to pus*y out of killing her. Because apparently after killing all her friends that helped her murder Joel and killing thousands of WLF members to get to the one person that LITERALLY bashed his brains in we needed to gain some compassion. So after Ellie returns home AGAIN, with nothing to show for her adventure other than two less fingers (Abby literally bit them off in our fight) but no by all means let her live.Then BOOM the game ends. Fu*k this game, fu*k the writers, fu*k everyone that said this game was good. They are all lying sacks of sh*t. Please for me, never EVER. Сравнивая с первой частью, где сюжет был приятным, линейным приключением с очень неоднозначной концовкой, можно легко понять негодования в сторону второй. Скомканный, до жути медленный и нелепый в своей простоте сюжет делает эту игру невыносимо долгой и безмерно утомительной. Первая половина игры могла запросто закончить игру, не предоставляя игроку "наслаждения" созерцать вторую сторону конфликта, или же, можно было совместить оба повествования. В итоге мы имеем путь в 12-15 часов, а потом примерно такой же путь на те же 12-15 часов. Концовка - просто идиотизм. Если в случае с первой частью можно было довольно долго дискутировать на тему правильности поступка Джоэлла, то вторая часть оставляет после себя послевкусие высказывания капитана очевидности и оставляет игрока неудовлетворённым. Единственное, чем действительно может похвастаться игра - графика. Свистопердящая ПС4 еле справляется с получаемой нагрузкой, местами фризит и гудит как паровоз. В следующий раз, когда вас спросят, почему ПС делает пососалово, приведите им это в пример. Консоль, которая не тянет игры - это мощно)
    Собственно, подводя итог мы высчитываем довольно простое уравнение. Чтобы узнать оценку складываем 1. Графику 2. Геймплей 3. Сюжет 4. Музыкальное сопровождение и выводим среднее арифметическое.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have so many complaints I'm not sure where to start. For about 50% of the game, you play as Abby, this character who, I suppose, we are supposed to connect with & feel sorry for — ya know, after she brutally murders Joel. I understand the story was showing us that there are two sides to everything & that what Joel done in the first game also had consequences for others, but his murder comes after he & Tommy are so kind to help out strangers who are lurking in the mountains? Joel may have warmed up to Ellie & eventually softened, but at his core, he was wary of other people & never let his guard down. So for him to end up in the situation that eventually gets him murdered (30 mins into the game) felt hollow. Which makes his death all the harder to deal with. So, we play as Abby, & for the whole game, I only wanted Ellie to finish her off. Her backstory that was overstuffed with parallels to Ellie & Joel's beautiful journey from TLOU felt like the game was forcing nostalgia & sentimentality down my throat to make me, if not like her, at least empathise with her. I didn't. Some parts with Abby as our playable character were fun, I do enjoy stealth missions, but this was also achieved with Ellie as the primary playable character. I heard the game was roughly 25 hours long, so I had huge expectations for the twists & turns this story was set to take, but in actuality it's the same 12 hour story from 2 different perspectives, the second perspective being one I had no interest in learning about until around 18 total hours in. I ended up somewhat curious about how the Seraphites started & who their prophet was. & I never found out. Maybe I missed something, some optional dialogue or some writings, so I can't completely criticise this chunk of plot amounting to basically nothing. Once Yara & Lev entered the story, I could see the direction we were headed in; a similar one we played before with Joel & Ellie. When we set off as Abby & Lev, it was too blindingly obvious that ND were trying instill a similar warmth in us, one that was cultivated through an entire story of learning about the unlikely pair that is Joel & Ellie. Maybe I would've cared more about Abby & her irritating friends if I had spent a whole game learning about them & being a part of a forming bond, but I wasn't. We are thrown into the lives of these people who we have nothing but disdain for after they kill Joel & expected to end up chummy with them after seeing a few thinly written moments about their friendship circle being loyal to a fault. This critique of Abby's story isn't to say I found Ellie's segment of the game completely without fault, however. I think it's amazing that ND managed to write in a bunch of new characters on the "good" side & yet, somehow, make them all so unlikable. Dina & Jesse, yes, you were poorly written. I have a particular pet peeve with plots, & that's making people pregnant for the sake of making a story more interesting. This game does it not once, but twice! Pregnancy is an easy way to add some difficulty to a story set in the middle of a post-apocalyptic world — & that's exactly why it was added. This peeve of mine is a personal preference of course, however I do find it lazy to throw in pregnancy for some shock factor. I can't sit here & say it was all bad. I cried a lot. Plenty of moments had me in tears. The downside to that, though? They were all Joel related. The museum flashback, his death, his conversation with Ellie at the end, that unfiltered, raw emotion that made me fall in love with the first game was back, if only fleetingly, since Joel exists only in Ellie's memory now. Despite loving these few & far between moments we had with Joel, the writing felt odd. I can't exactly place my finger on it. Joel felt very different & a lot of the scenes felt they were trying too hard to remind us of moments from the first game. Ellie & Tommy quickly became my comfort in this game, as I stumbled around with these unfamiliar & unlikable people, I pined for moments with them. Even when you are playing as Abby & you must rush to cover as Tommy fires a sniper rifle at you, I felt happy in the comfort that someone familiar was nearby. TLDR; if you have a massive attachment to the first game, then this game is not for you. I rate it 3/10. A 3 b/c the game truly is beautiful. The scenery & surroundings are astonishing and it is all so carefully crafted to create a beautifully torn world. A 3 b/c I had some moments of fun, Ellie's chapter in the mall was a defining moment for me, I loved everything about it, sadly those moments did not come often. I spent the whole game waiting for that sweet relief at the end, I wanted Ellie to finish Abby off, since that is what the whole story was about. We had faced countless trials, for nothing. Yes, they had both ruined each other's lives & they were "even" but, I still don't care about Abby.

Dear god where do i begin, im giving the game a 3/10 mainly due to story which may be unfair, i loved the graphics and mechanics and how much more things you could do relative to the first game but the story was harsh, i expected joel to die but that was still a heart breaking moment, Hunting down abby and her group was a given and i enjoyed alot of that part of the story i also loved the relationship between dina and ellie. Now on to my issues, i hate how naughty dog forced us to play as the character who murdered joel that just felt so wrong i wish i could change it and not only that but after the fact we lose so many along the way and ellie still decides to leave what she has and go after abby, to then let her live. The one thing i was gripping on two before falling into the pit of unfair hatred was a lingering hope ellie would go home and be welcomed by jj and dina but for the last time my heart got shattered and we are left with nothing at the end. Also that scene with joel which is obviously only put to make you feel worse as you could tell ellie and joel were just beginning to salvage their relationship when he died. And after this wall of text i feel if you buy the game and are ok with disregarding story then i believe its a very worthwhile buy but if youre a die hard last of us fan, prepare your heart to be shattered 10 times over.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The fact that people have been giving this game a zero is disrespectful. I understand that people are angry because of Joel's death. I get that, it's a very sad and dark moment for all fans, I was super pissed, and that fact that they had the guts to make us ,the players play, as Abby for the whole second half the game was disgusting. However, i soon realized that this was a vital move for the theme of this story. Even though playing as Abby is my least favorite part of the game that section brought to the table what the first game brought. Two people randomly meeting each other developing a special bond creating some of the best story moments in the game. Abby meets and interacts with some of the best characters I have seen in video games this past generation. This also allows the player to see both sides of the spectrum showing why Abby does what she does. Even though this game tried its hardest to make me sympathize for Abby, I just never could. Instead I always saw myself caring for the characters around her like Lev, Yara, and Owen but never her. So this makes it tens times harder for the player whenever it comes down to the moment when "crap hits the fan" and certain character suffer from terrible fates. However in some cases this games story does feel all over the place because of the random flashbacks in key moments that draw you away from the main story. Also the looting after killing dozens of men and the characters just super cheery and talking to each other like nothing happened bothers me. But these moments do not justify the right to give the game a zero. You can tell just by the loading screen this game has some much hardwork and dedication poured into it and over thousands of hours of work put into it. It really is a beautiful game and the gameplay is phenomenal. This game really shows the full potential games can reach in the next generation. Lets get back to the discussion of the story. Even though it may seem like just a classic revenge story with the whole story showing why revenge is "bad" it is way deeper. Naughty Dog whole point of this game is to go beyond and do something no one has ever done. Each characters decisions feel like they have impact and weight to the world, and it gives you this feeling that you will not know what happens next. This game made me UNCOMFORTABLE, I felt like any second a character I loved would soon have their life drained from their bodies leaving me with a feeling of dread constantly. Showing how truly evil human beings are. The story is not supposed to make people happy. *THIS IS NOT A HAPPY GAME* it is eery dark and scary. Every choice Ellie and Abby make are not good and alot of the times questionable. Because of this I was left speechless and sad over the things I had done to these people even though it seems like they deserved it. Even though playing the game through Abby ultimately hurt the game and killed the story for alot of people, and me to a certain extent, I believe that is the whole purpose. The point of this game is not to be happy with the outcomes but to be mad and frustrated with what happens because life is not always a happy story. That's why TLOU Part II is simply one of the best games I have ever played. Because it shows us what the dark side of humanity is.… Expand

The story is poorly written, the old characters are incoherent with their already known personalities and traits; the new characters are completely unlikable, even though the game makes a constant effort to make you sympathize with them, completely unsuccessfully.     The graphics and sound are great, and the gameplay loop is mediocre as in the last one, but since this is a story-driven game, the absolute lack of skillful writing makes this experience a chore to go through. I just couldn't wait for the game to be over.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
