    Beautiful game. Animation feels a little unpolished and rushed (7 years?) and gameplay is kinda "standard"? Nothing new. But besides that It's tragical what happened here. The creators obviously got carried away into stuff that has very little to do with creating an enjoyable adventure. I find the dialogues especially flawed, often meaningless rants...a zillion f-words are not gonna makeBeautiful game. I'm around halfway into the game and I'm considering to leave it that way, not very motivated to get to the end of this...The story and dialogue is very focused on making issues of certain themes, and by that if feels unnatural and forced... I'm form Europe and just bought the game without checking reviews or opinions. I figured this would be pure gold. But now I'm wondering why they did it like this....? You can tell a story unbiased, without sexual references, without swearing every 5 seconds, without constant meaningless violence. It doesn't matter if the protagonists are male, female or in between. You don't have to zoom in on those traits, it is unnecessary and hinders the immersive nature of telling a good story, a story that can be enjoyed by all, that connects people instead of dividing them. A story that can be universally appealing. I think it is an art to tell stories like that, and naughty dog swapped the classic art form of storytelling for useless ranting, unnecessary plot twists for the sake of shock effect all fueled by gore and violence and a constant hint to sexuality and gender. It makes me sad for all the people that put their work in this, all these expensive pixels, the beautiful scenery as a stage for crappy dialogues and weak storytelling. It feels like naughty dog is going through moral puberty, and is just provoking for the sake of it . They just used the universe of the Last of Us as a setting for ventilating their needs. I fear this is gonna feel very dated soon and will not have a long lived history in gaming. The human race has been great at storytelling for thousands of years, it sure seems we are likely to undo that skill in just a couple of decades, where telling a cinematic story has become an excuse to create an absurdly moralistic and political mess solely created to score points in online political debate and not to take the audience on a magical experience....A missed chance in creating a memorabel game.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the best game for PS4 and I dare say the generation. Incredible graphics, excellent gameplay and a fantastic story. What a game! Thanks Naughty Dog for that masterpiece.

    Если бы эта игра позиционировалась, как отдельный продукт, а не как продолжение первой части, то был бы резон оценить выше. Сейчас же это выглядит всего лишь подделкой оригинала.

    The game works good and looks good, but the story and dialog is so dumb and infuriating, I had no issues with the lesbian stuff or the transsexual but i would still recommend to just stick to the first game, and pretend this doesn't exist.

    Absolute disappointment. Went through part 1 before and it could not be worse what they did/ why they did it? to part 2. Maybe to favour a certain demographic/ ideology I don‘t know. One of the worst endings I ever experienced in a videogame. Graphic 9/10 and the 7/10 gameplay is the only thing holding this game together. Story 0/10

    The ending was awful and the zombies are now walking dead zombies instead of TLoU zombies. Id give it a higher rating for the graphics, but any game can have good graphics. A game with bad graphics could easily be a 10, but the game mechanics need to be there, which aren't with this game.

    Game play is expanded on from the 1st game and visuals are stunningly beautiful. The writing suffers immensely and often doesn't makes sense when it comes to the decision making of main characters.

    The gameplay and graphics are very good, unfortunately that doesn't really matter because the story and the way the characters behave just doesn't make any sence and it pretty much ruins the overall experience. Saw the leaks, decided to buy the game anyway hoping it wouldn't be as bad as everyone said and ended up regretting wasting my money. Dissapointed but not surprised.

    I was really hyped for this game, but thankfully my collectors edition got cancelled a month ago, and I saved up a lot of money, the game is beautiful, voice acting is great, gameplay hasn't improved in 7 years, which is both good and bad, but this score is this low only because of a terrible story and false advertising.

This game takes every opportunity to reward you and spits in your face instead beginning, middle and end. I can not believe how bad it is. Misleading trailers, No rewarding story beats. Drukkmans on a power trip, self inserting himself into the game as the character who spits on Joel’s dead body and has sex with the person who killed him.

    I really hope that the homophobic hate this has received pre launch doesn’t overshadow the genuine hate the game is receiving post launch for it’s terrible creative decisions. It’s like Drukkman just wanted to spit in our faces for loving the first game.

    I can not justify anything that occurred nor can I justify giving the game anything but a flat out 0 on principle alone.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a long-time fan of the TLOU franchise, I was absolutely devastated by this game and how fans were treated by critics.

    First of all, I have to praise it for the technical aspects of game. The gameplay and the graphics were amazing. I witnessed stunning displays of advanced graphics, smooth controls (except the poor jump control), great story transitions, and expanded capabilities of what a user can do in the game. Those were fantastic.

    BUT... what made the original TLOU a perfect game was the combination of gameplay, graphics, and fantastic storytelling. This game severely lacked the latter.

    The poor treatment of Joel was downright insane. I understand that killing off a main character to push the story to a new level may be necessary, but to turn him into an unsuspecting, gullible man in a world that is out to get the person who ruined the Fireflies was a poor choice of narrative. ND and critics are bashing the fans for not accepting the killing of Joel, but what can you possibly expect from us when you made us love and understand a character who’ve experienced a loss of his daughter, who was untrusting of anyone, and battled against a flawed faction to save someone he grew to love and trust? ND made us empathize with him and understand his actions. Now you decide to kill him off in the most unclimactic manner possible?

    The introduction to Abby and the long hours of gameplay with her was terrible. The game made us play with an unknown character within the first hour and make her (or him) brutally beat the main character to death. Then later we are forced to play as her for who knows what hours. Seemed like infinity. The game goes onto make us see from Abby’s perspective. What for??

    If ND wanted to teach us about the cycle of hate and vengeance, it would’ve been better if ND built up a story where the users could see the initial effects of losing her father and how severely that has impacted throughout life. All we get is a nobody killing off our loved character and forced to understand her perspective.

    And do I have to talk about the messed up romance scene? No, I don’t think I will.

    The brutality. Oh boy, where do I begin. For a game that wanted to promote understanding and empathy, ND sure did a great job letting us killing enemies in the most brutal form possible. Did we really need to witness a piece of brain sticking onto a golf club? Or a pregnant woman dying?
    Some critics are now generalizing the mass of negative reviewers as immature bigots who are (1) Refusing to see past the brutal treatment of Joel and (2) are antagonistic toward the SJW agenda and the trans community. What they do not realize, is that if those biases were true, the Naughty Dog fanbase would have criticized games like the TLOU: Left Behind and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. There are plenty of games that present different sexual orientations and ideals, but you don’t see a mass of people rallying to give poor reviews.

    Gamers are just as well rational and understanding as the prominent critics. We are not some close-minded “bigots” who refuse to empathize with progressive thinking. If you are seeing a massive pushback from the general population, maybe it’s worth looking at the problem rather than going against the gamers. Remember Naughty Dog, WE WANTED TO LOVE THE SECOND GAME JUST AS WE DID FOR THE FIRST ONE.

    If the general fanbase is the problem, just look at all the prominent game streamers. Were their reception so welcoming?

    Game critics are denying the fact that they were paid or given incentives to give glowing reviews on the TLOU 2. However, what they don’t tell you is that they are consciously (or unconsciously) obligated to protect their brand and the relationship with Naughty Dog. Given that the first TLOU received such glowing reviews, they’re put into a position where they cannot give lower scores in fear of being outcasted from other reviewers. All these critics simply played it safe. Imagine a scenario where you were a senior writer in a prominent game review platform and were given the copy of the game a week before the actual release. Naughty Dog, a major game company, asks you to review it (but with major restrictions on discussing about the game) and you know that the first TLOU received glowing reviews from other major critics and has a massive fanbase. Would you really be able to give negative reviews on it? Giving a negative review will (1) Draw major backlash from the fanbase who won’t be able to play for another week and (2) Make their brand look base in a sea of positive reviews from other prominent reviewers. Just look at what happened to the YouTube channel SkillUp. Some fans and critics bashed the poor guy for leaving a bad review.

    If you want to play for an upgraded TLOU gameplay and graphics, please go ahead. It’s really an awesome game.

    If you want to play for the story, I recommend saving that money and play something else.    … Expand

    yet the backstory isnt interesting or good enough to get the player on their side
    while playing the backstory, the only thing i want to do is GOING BACK TO THE MAIN STORY
    - old Characters, especialy Joel, are not the same or anyway close to how they were in the first part
    it feels like "Star Wars The Last Jedi" all over again
    the game tries to change your memories of the old characters, in a non compelling/unrealistic way
    - the Story is the basic, Standart, uninspired Revenge Plot
    and the worst part is HOW the Story starts this whole plot.
    - the clickers (however the undead are exactly called) are litteraly only in the game, so you have something to shot at
    - the first game had this deeper meening of love and hope (and more), this game has left that behind for something like "hOw FaR ArE YoU GoInG tO gO fOr ReVeNgE?"
    (The cycle of Revenge)
    but it gives us no choise to do something different,
    and while i understand, the game is ment to be linear, even a monkey would understand its mistakes after the tenth time or so.
    There are just to many other ways of telling us about the Cycle of Revenge.
    - At the same time it tries to show how characters react and change after they killed a human in a cutscene, BUT IT HAS NO IMPACT.
    I LITTERALY killed a hundred other men/women before with NO reaction and suddenly this?
    - at Last the First Last of Us was great at switching brutal combat to a more hopefull, peacefull enivrement.
    after a longer shootout, it takes time to tell a story
    it gives your brain time to relax
    Part 2 loses itself the more you play it.
    it starts fairly "calm", yet not even 2 hours its "BAM, Revenge plot", kill them all.
    it's like some sufferingporn, just one bad thing after the other
    and while I understand why it is there, there just comes a moment, where it just stopes impressing me and it just gets boring
    - At last the first game had this "Light" you could look towards
    tlou2 has lost it, completely, Its completely in the dark
    - The first game was nearly perfect, arguably one of the best games of all time,
    it didnt need a sequell, especially this one
    - I remember Neil saying "There are no Protagonists/Heroes"

    It still is a Sequel to the first part, but it feels like a bad writen FANFICTION, written by a gyu with no knowledge in fictionwritting and who was drunk the hole time.
    Its like some mix between "DCs Darkness", "The Last Jedi" with its inconsistent, blank, dumb characters and "Game of Thrones: Season 8", just NO. not even the greatest Graphics/Gameplay can save this Sheithouse of a Story (How the hell did the Critics give it a 95?, its like they didnt play this game at all, (or less than an hour)) - 3 points for Graphics/Sound - 2 point for Gameplay, (hit or miss) - -1 for story A small tipp: If you already bought the game, I AM SORRY for you If you HAVENT bought part 2, DONT BUY IT, no recomendation just play/replay the first part, its awesome.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm just gonna be straight up honest here. I played the first TLOU several times through and loved everything about it. The seven year wait until TLOU2 was tough, but I had such high hopes for it after the all the love that was put into the first.

    I got the game on release and finished it a few hours ago. I have to admit, I did find it incredibly hard to carry on playing after a very questionable and unexpected death of the beloved character, Joel. This isn't the main reason why I can't bring myself to give this game a positive review, but it did suck to see a character that you grew to like and had such big expectations for his and Ellie's paths in TLOU2 get taken out in such a...pointless way. It honestly felt that all the things they went through in the first was just tossed out the window.

    I found myself being unable to feel anything for the new characters that were introduced. The new antagonist brought in I felt was just extremely bland and unoriginal. I feel revenge plots are just so overused these days and bring nothing unique to games. However, I did push on as I wanted to experience the whole game and see how it all ended.

    When I reached the ending I have to admit that I was glad it was over. Having Ellie go through the entire game killing multiple people in order to get her revenge for the death of the man who had protected her and loved her as his own daughter, only to allow the character who killed him to go free. This just adds to the pointless killings that she had done throughout the game leading up to this moment. I get that they wanted Ellie to realise that her killing Abby would just make her the same as her, but it's the fact she killed so many people to get to Abby, only to let her live.

    The storyline just ruined the entire game for me. Very badly written and dull. Revenge plots are just extremely unfun to play after you've seen it done before.

    The positives from this game:

    - Incredibly beautiful graphics. Hard to believe it's on the PS4 at times. Amazing job by the designers.

    - Voice acting on point as always!They get the emotions through very well.

    - Environment. Great settings and very well made for certain scenes.

    - Soundtrack is always a pleasure to listen to.

    Reason for my score is sadly because, for me, the negatives outweigh the positives too much. I hope they learn from this feedback and can understand that I'm not leaving a bad review just for the sake of it. It does make me sad to be leaving a score this low, but my hopes were crushed.    … Expand

    Я провел в игре примерно 7 часов и всё, я больше не хочу в неё возвращаться. Проблема не в повестке даже, а в самом геймплее. Я не могу продолжать играть и мне скучно.

    Сперва пройдемся по базе: в игре вкусная графика, но нет какой-то революционной механики. Это всё то, что я уже видел в первой части. Не того я ждал.
    История очень плохая в том плане, что я не смог за чуть ли не весь день привязаться хоть к одному персонажу. У меня отвращение ко всем. Единственный персонаж, к которому я привязан еще с первой части - Джоэл, но Нил Дракманн и вся компания NaughtyDog просто идиоты, которые не смогли даже правильно попрощаться с самым глубоким персонажем серии. Я хотел кинуть геймпад в монитор за то, что я не перестал лить слезы, а Элли уже фиолетово на смерть и она просто на эмоциях кого-то убивает, просто потому что она злится и будто забыла на что, как типичная баба (да, они часто начинают злиться и потом забывают на что злились, поверьте). Ей было похуй на смерть Джоэла. Всю серию игры ненавидел и буду ненавидеть Элли!    … Expand

So I was super excited to play as Joel and Ellie again. Well that’s not what you get. You know what you get? Playing as another character that looks like the biggest feminist on roids who kills my favorite character in the stupidest way possible! Did they not look back to see why people liked the first one?     The gameplay itself, gameplay mechanics and AI is great as expected from N.D but the story is for the lack of words **** I know in the modern society most men are **** and a hindrance to women who's destined to achieve greatness.

    Joel gets **** by a golf club at the hands of Abby (The Maa'am, second of her name) and the way the whole ordeal goes down is way to convenient by the last of us standards, Abby just happens to be on the quest of vengeance against Joel and guess what! she just ran into him and Tommy, and the untrusting and weary man we know Joel and Tommy to be just spits out their name to her (a stranger) twice... that's just unacceptable character change right there. well anyway, it ends with Joel getting **** as a character and as a man.

    Ellie: Ellie was our surrogate daughter whom we loved and nurtured into being a true badass under Joel's wing.
    They made her a vengeful and depressed girl who can't stop herself from doing one despicable brutal act after another no matter how much it breaks her down, the path of revenge has made her blind and empty inside. Ellie was quirky and full of life in the first game, she was worthy enough in our eyes as a fan to see humanity be robbed of the cure it might have today.
    This is not the Ellie we know, this person wearing Ellie's suit isn't worth it. And when the game ends she just lets Abby go, everything she had done or suffered until that point is rendered meaningless, I guess avenging Joel didn't meant enough for her to kill the great Abby (The Maa'am, second of her name) character who had massacred her father figure and her close friends. That's not Ellie.. **** that!

    This is not the game for those who've loved the the The Last of us part 1. this game is for those who hated it.    … Expand

    The graphics were stunning and the gameplay was smooth. I enjoyed how you go against dogs and rehashed infected (stalkers as an example) and had to plan accordingly.
    However the story was a disappointment.
    The death of the 1st main character was to be expected however how it happened was a shambles, leaving the character's death with little meaning other then a driving point for this second game.
    This in turn is painful to those who played the first game and had built a connection to said character.
    Granted, there was a few cool parts in the game however the negative greatly out weigh them.
    I didn't wish to leave a negative review but I would recommend watching a walkthrough and keeping your money.    … Expand

    When it comes to character destruction, this game is proficient at it. Joel no longer fits with the character developed from the first game and it ends in the worst way possible, a scene I will happily call a lazy rip off from The Walking Dead, which suits TLOU2’s story telling with how lazy and unoriginal it is. Abby is essentially Negan, her golf club is a replacement for Negan bat and Joel is Glenn, all the game really lacked was popping out an eyeball and delirious rambling. Then in the end the audience is denied any kind of absolution since like Negan, Abby gets off Scott free after getting all she wanted and as a fan my favourite characters are utterly destroyed.

    And while an original idea is impossible, the goal is to try and tell one in a different way that feels original, but this games story didn’t even seem to bother trying at all. A tired and worn out ‘lesson’ about revenge where you are left totally unsatisfied.

    The graphics seem to be the only ‘redeeming’ feature, it’s pretty, but I’m not a child swayed by ‘ooh shiny’. The gameplay is pretty meh and the whole reason for playing the game was the story, which is arguably the most important part of this genre, the gameplay being simply the means to the ends which just wasn’t worth it.

    I wouldn’t recommend buying, the game isn’t worth another play through and it’s also been falsely advertised, the trailers were manipulative and the reviews were also manipulated. The way this whole advertising and review strategy was implemented should be illegal, it’s pretty close to fraud in my opinion and frankly all these ‘official’ reviewers have zero legs to stand on when it comes to customer trust.    … Expand

Therefore, forcing players to endure a game that seems to take joy in harming players favourite characters seems insanely unnecessary and effectively acts more as torture porn than it does effective story telling. It is obvious that the game seems to critique the consequence free violence that occurs in so many video games, but by removing player agency any such commentary isn't as impactful to the player and only makes them feel condescendingly lectured throughout the storytelling experience. This wound is only rubbed in with additional salt when you are forced to embody an unrelatable character during game play, which the game makes irredeemable and unsympathetic within the first 3 hours of the game. The ending is also exceptionally unsatisfactory, which leaves you pondering what the point of the entire game and its character motivations were about. I understand this was intentional, but if you loved the Last Of Us, as I did, the final scene with the guitar only serves to undermine the memory of those characters I loved even further. Ultimately, to Naughty Dog's credit, aside from the story- by every measure this game has improved upon its predecessor, with better exploration, graphics, combat, stealth (although I don't think it’s as great as the other reviewers have made it out to be, it's still good and I can definitely see why people would enjoy it), and sound there's a lot here for many gamers to still enjoy. So, if you're someone who enjoys having their expectations subverted (The Last Jedi style), then you'll love it like so many in this community has done. But as someone who loves the characters from the first game- this game does such a disservice to them that it has left a permanent bad taste in my mouth and for that I cannot personally recommend it.… Expand

    Plot: There are no holes or forced paths. This game talks about psychological trauma and how if not resolved can destroy someone. We watch the evolution of the same trauma, the murder of a father, in both Abby and Ellie, and see how they resolve the demons that torment them. The theme of this game is not only the futility of revenge but a commentary on how psychological trauma can reshape us if not treated. The last 2 hours of the plot are pure Shakespearean drama in videogame form, the only way someone can disparage the plot of this game is because they never opened a book in their life (or read too many mangas...)

    Sex: Sex in this videogame does 2 things, first it's not a pure show of flesh (that's why Sony didn't censor it unlike in other games), second it serves the purpose with Ellie to create a progression in her relationship with Dina, in Abby instead ND wants to depict something that happens in real life when you don't resolve your feelings for an ex. I can understand that all the incels out there have no idea of what I'm talking but please start reading something other than mangas, it' not that hard.

    Gameplay: Similar to the first game, I expected more improvement but in the end, we cannot have ND employees slaved for our entertainment (more than they are already). The game is playable and fun with some well-placed jump scares.

    Politics: What politics? the only themes that you may think are political are: Ellie and Dina's relationship, really? In 2020 you think living free your sexuality it's political, please **** go kiss your waifu. Abby is practically mister muscle, this one even I don't' know where the **** it's political, she's a soldier... being in shape is a sin for the right?
    Lev is trans, oh my, if even the SCOTUS with a majority of conservatives ruled that you can't be fired if you're LGBT+ can we all agree that in 2020 finally, we are all nearly equal under the law? And that trans people deserve to live their life how the **** they want and not by your expectations? After the tirade... First GOOD representation of a trans character in a videogame...
    The cult, ok children let me tell you what happens with religious fanatism, something like all the **** since 2001? And please, don't try to sell my the lie that one religion is better than the other, fanatics are all the same.

    So, why people hate this game? Because it's not a game for children or pubescent teenagers, it's a game for people that have lived a little outside mommy house and have experienced life hardships and that can recognize them. It's not a game for everyone, yes, but in the end, it is a masterpiece, like the first game it can talk to your soul if you don't have the emotional range of an amoeba.
    Oh and it's a game for people with a brain... (ND there is were you went wrong...)

    So let see if ND learned to not overwork people for the next game.

When I first heard that the last of us 2 was going to be like the last jedi I wasn't really surprised and although there was a clear contrast between user and critic reviews that isn't the only thing the two have in common. Both substitute actual good writing and plot twists with these "gotcha shock" moments. Gotcha, throws lightsaber of the cliff, Gotcha Finn gets rammed into last second, gotcha you can't actually stab this dude because he's a ghost. It's the same stupid **** with the last of us 2. Riding on your horse, gotcha captured, getting beat up gotcha there is a shard of glass and you stab some dude in the neck, in an abandoned building with a bunch of **** strangers? Gotcha there goes your **** knee. This isnt the only problem with the story, So much is sacrificed for this plot with a message that isn't even that hard to understand. The first game was so innovative and I learned so much from it, the same can't be said about this one. In Naughty dog games it's always about the characters and personally, I found the new cast of characters to be unlikable and in terms of abbys friends, they would definitely not survive the apocalypse. And they got rid of all the crate pushing and ladder climbing which I actually kind of miss, instead of riding a horse spamming x for 10 minutes talking, it's more fun actually solving a puzzle instead. And lastly, for a game puts an emphasis on death and vulnerability, it's not very convincing when you play as a veteran with a 100 kd and whenever the enemies get a chance to kill you they go full dumb dumb and by the end of the game, Ellie somehow survives, so much for being realistic. And one more negative thing, I respect the direction that they were trying to take with Abby but Neil knew a decision like that would split the fan base and that's not exactly a good thing because the last of us is so respected and people have been waiting 7 years for this one, I don't want to play as the girl who probably has a penis that killed one of my favorite characters in gaming. The graphics are nice, you can thank the overworked employees for that, the gameplay is definitely something else but that **** is way to brutal for me lol.     Words cannot express how I feel about this game. The first Last of Us brought great memories, great character development, the game was a personification of 10/10. 7 years later... I mean COME ONNN, it's a post apocalyptic world, we want to play the game to experience a different world, I don't want to play the game if it just reflects today's society (i.e constant reminder that women are powerful). The game had so much potential, 7 years, 7 years, we waited, I member 2 years ago when the reveal trailer came out, me and the boys got soooo hyped, not to mention the constant delays. The only good thing to come from this dumpster fire is that people are finally realising access media (IGN, Metacritic etc.) don't actually review games based on it's aspects, but are getting reviewed based on the agenda it pushing in order to keep that ethical halo. I'm so glad I kept my $70. As a wise man once said "I don't wanna play this game anymore" -Pewdiepie… Expand

With only a few problems, the gameplay is a solid 7-8. However, this is not a gameplay based game like Mario or Apex. This is a Narrative driven game and the quality of the narrative and story must be critiqued at a higher standard. Wow are there major plot holes in this game. There is very little back story on characters and little character development for the new characters. Key major events happen but are narratively justified quickly improperly. Don't get me wrong, the game and story is not bad, it's just average. (With high highs and lows lows along your journey)… Expand

    The games looks pretty good. Animations, models, textures, everything - wonderful. The game play is just boring. It's nothing new since the first part. The story is boring. Exceptionally boring.
    I hate this game because i loved the first part. But if Naughty Dog thinks that they can just put lots of money and zero creativity to make game good - its not true.

The gameplay is a bit better than the previous game, but not by much. The story? All I really have to say is... it’s just a weird fetish made by a man who gets his kicks out of muscular and lean women who brutally murder people. I don’t like the route this story has gone, I don’t appreciate how they introduced and took out Joel, I don’t like the way he made EVERY SINGLE female character look horrendous, and I really don’t appreciate playing as Joel’s murderer like we’re supposed to sympathize with her. I don’t think this should’ve been the story and that’s it, goodbye.… Expand

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
