    The game polarizes strongly. In my opinion, Naughty Dog still convinces with the gameplay elements and the graphics, but the story is much weaker compared to the predecessor.

    The dynamic between Ellie and Joel in the first part is something that I missed a lot. Of course, it's up to Naughty Dog to keep the story going.     Stupid characters, boring and empty story, almost the same gameplay as in first part,but good graphics. I bought it for half of the price and already regret it. 

    Unfortunately PS does not allow me to refund money otherwise I would already refund all I paid for this game. It is just so boring and not interesting.

From the horrible pacing to the unenjoyable gameplay with Abby and the not interesting whatsoever story with Abby. Joel dies within the first hour of the game which is just a slap in the face to anyone who played the first game. This should've been an adventure with Joel and Ellie, not Ellie and Abby. The graphics were on point along with the gameplay giving this a 2/10 for me.… Expand

    This game is a masterpiece,everybody, who have ps4 must play it. Story is dramatic,action and really interesting. Gameplay is like a first part,but it have more new functions,which help to be more interesting and variable. Music is very good, and art design is spectacular.

    The technical quality and gameplay is exquisite but the story and storyline ...

    History is low level. And try to force me to empathize with Abby throughout the game (I hated that) a completely psychopathic and despicable character.     I own a PS2, 3 and 4, I got to play a bit of the original TLOU in PS3, then lost it, years later, the remastered version was free for PS+ users, so I bought it, and I loved it, the game got me truly enthusiastic for the sequel.
    Then I saw the leaks back in April, and my absolute hype for the game, turned into absolute hate.
    I didn't and I still don't care if Abby is a mutilated 41%-ass individual, or if Ellie likes to scissor with women whose actresses got their boobs nerfed, what enraged me is how dirty they did Joel, a character that everyone fell in love with in the previous game.
    Some time later, I kinda got over it, but I still wasn't going to play it, and when people got the game early VIA pre-order, I got even more goddamn enraged.
    They torture the main characters like the absolute worst villains in history, Tommy gets divorced, one-eyed and limping, mad about the fact that Ellie promised him to kill that woman and now is hesitating about it, Ellie herself hallucinates about Joel's dead body and with how she couldn't save him, which inspires her to finish the job and fight Abby on an even fight where both of them are emaciated as hell and she DOESN'T KILL HER BECAUSE OF A FLASHBACK OF JOEL PLAYING THE GUITAR (Which absolutely contradicts what she said about Joel killing Abby if Ellie was the one killed and not him), then the game ends with Dina making a meme out of herself and taking the kids, and Ellie making a failed attempt to play the guitar with three fingers on her left hand, she's alone, she did Tommy dirty by having the chance of finishing the job, and HESITATING about it, and she made a complete fool out of herself by killing a bunch of people trying to find Abby and NOT finishing off the person you killed so much to find, ending the game with an unsatisfying climax, tbh it would have been slightly less bad if Abby just finished Ellie in the theater.
    Good job, Neil, you got what you wanted, a game that literally no mentally stable person likes, and you are getting what you deserve because of it, I hope mocaping that scene with your self insert banging Abby was worth it.
    I'm giving it a 2 only because of the REALLY slightly improved gameplay, and I'm being really forgiving with it.    … Expand

    This game is one of the most ambitious stories I've ever played in a video game, there is no doubt it has split the player base (just look at the user reviews compared to what they were when the game first came out) but it was **** eviscerated by leaks and hit pieces from youtubers, it was a mess. The only real hiccup I've thought of is that there are a handful of pacing issues and a portion does drag enough to make it off putting to some especially if they aren't entirely bought into whats happening yet. All id say is play the game for yourself and see because this not just another company ruining their properties because they're "woke" or "pandering".… Expand

    Uno de los mejores juegos de la historia. Visualmente espectacular, coge la base del primero y la perfecciona, una historia emocionante que te dará que pensar, un juego de 10 en todos sus apartados.

    The nature of the discourse surrounding this game has made it difficult for many to be fair. The sheer amount of 0’s and 10’s given to this game is evidence of that. While TLOU2 certainly isn’t a 0/10 game, it is not a 10/10, either.

    For starters, the game does many things well. The level of detail in this game is nothing short of incredible.     For starters, the game does many things well. The level of detail in this game is nothing short of incredible. One of my favorite parts of the first game was uncovering the story of Ish in the sewers. TLOU2 is filled with intriguing short stories like that which make the world feel alive, as though it has a history. Uncovering these little mysteries through the artifacts and environment may have been my favorite part of the game. While I’m no expert when it comes to graphics, the PS4 Pro version had the best (most realistic) graphics I’ve ever seen.

    For the most part, the gameplay is great and an improvement over the original. The dodge mechanic is a very welcome addition that opens up options in combat for Ellie in particular. I also appreciate how infected and humans are no longer perfectly outlined in listen mode. Depending on where you’re at in the story, you will find your approach to combat change, and it’s fun to mix it up at that point. My only gripe with the combat is that is feels slightly delayed. If you’ve played the first game, you’re aware of the infamous brick/bottle throw + melee combo. In TLOU2, the animation to grab and throw the bottle feels much slower than in TLOU1, often resulting in death, and it’s frustrating on higher difficulties where this strategy is essential.

    Of course, the most important part of TLOU2 is the narrative. This is where the controversy lies, and there’s little I can say about it that hasn’t been said already. Personally, I didn’t love the direction the game took, but I was still impressed by what Naughty Dog accomplished and applaud their boldness. In a world of bland cookie cutter sequels, Naughty Dog dared to take a risk. For me, the risk paid off. While the phrase “go into it with an open mind” is often a red flag, in this case it’s important for you to do so. Don’t be taken in by people telling you what to think—I encourage you to come to your own conclusions. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy the game as much as I did. My main gripe with the narrative (unrelated to the story direction) is that the game felt bloated at times, and a little longer than it should have been. The pacing would have benefitted if the first half was trimmed somewhat. By the end I was exhausted, which hampered my enjoyment a bit, but this became less of an issue on my second playthrough.

    TLOU2 is a game that challenges you in a way no game I’ve played before or since has. It challenges your humanity and empathy, and urges you to understand that we’re all the heroes in our own story. Ultimately, that’s what The Last of Us is all about.    … Expand

Most people seem to don't like it because either they don't understand the story and its moral message or because of personal reasons (homophobia, hates strong women et.). This is very sad because when you expect to not like something you won't like it for sure.
    In most games you kill one person after the other and the game gives you some kind of feeling that you achieved something good but to reach the goal you murdered thousands of people and no one cares (Uncharted, Tomb Raider etc.) It's the same with Ellies first Part of the story. But what makes TLOU II a masterpiece is the change in point of view to Abby. We see her love to her father, her fear of heights, the death of her friends and comrades, a pointless war against a misguided cult and later on her choosing to save two children from all of it and after all her moral superiority when she decides to let Ellie and pregnant Dina live. The evil killer that murdered Joel became human, every killing (even the dogs) and all the brutality is viewed from another point and is reflected. The message is clear: revange does not only takes so many lifes, it leads to a never seeming to end cycle which ruins the lifes of both Abby and Ellie particularly shown in their fight on the beach. Abby tried to end this before, showed mercy and got out of everything with the little boy at the end. But Ellie who couldn't forget her hatred and went again for revange lost everything: Dina and the child, the farm and very important her fingers. Without them it's impossible for her playing guitar which is the central connection between her and Joel, loosing this ability means all the hate and revange only led to loosing Joel in a way...
    I am very gratefull to have been able to play this outstanding masterpiece! This story was on a completly other level not to mention the unbelievable graphics, the on-point gameplay, the love for detail, not one but two amazing female main characters and as I have heard overwhelming accessibility options. I really hope Naughty Dog is going for a third part in which they conclude the story, either Ellie dies and all hope for humanity is lost or they find a vaccination. This is a story about what hate and revenge does to people and ironically the people who were hating this game are the ones who got the harm because they couldn't go through this experience.    … Expand

The ending of this game is heartbreaking and it isn't satisfying at all, it makes you feel empty inside and makes you wish everything in the game just never happened. The gameplay is fantastic, as expected, better than any other Naughty Dog game. The graphics were great, but I played it on a base PS4 so it was pretty blurry (the detail exceeded the resolution).… Expand

    These three points are given for excellent graphics.. the rest of this game is a joke. no likeable characters, horrible story, extremely repetitive gameplay, the game is way too long, and they completely take away the warmth, beauty and hope the first game had in between all the dark.

    When I first played this game, I would have given it about a 7.5. The gameplay is amazing, and I enjoyed the story for the most part. The ending was what threw me off. However, after playing the game a second time I got it. The ending made so much more sense.     it kills me to see Naughty Dog deconstruct its franchise/characters in such a violent and pointless narrative, all for (in my opinion) the purpose of shock factor and expressing a very generic message of revenge. I normally don't leave bad reviews, but I'm making an exception in this case, as i feel the need to voice my displeasure. I can't with good conscious support this game, and thisit kills me to see Naughty Dog deconstruct its franchise/characters in such a violent and pointless narrative, all for (in my opinion) the purpose of shock factor and expressing a very generic message of revenge. I normally don't leave bad reviews, but I'm making an exception in this case, as i feel the need to voice my displeasure. I am 10 hours in, not interested, the stealth is no good. The fighting scenarios are not balanced at all.

    Better in so many ways. Faction interaction. Interesting duality in many places.
    The notes left behind are mixed. Not that creative. I wasn't as impressed by the visuals as I should have been compared to the effort and money put in.

    Gaming just doesn't get better than this! A masterpiece in it's truest sense... It will emotionally tear you apart like previously only great movies or books could do. Amazing writing and acting, visually stunning, controls are super tight and gameplay is incredibly pleasing! A bit long maybe but truly enjoyed every second of it!

It really makes you feel like Abby is not such a **** by great character development. The ending is even great because it shows that Ellie is ready to end the “cycle” of constant agony by not killing Abby, if she did kill her the kid would of probably grown up and tried to kill Ellie.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As the fun of the first game, I realize that TLOU games are plot-driven. In the sequel, Neil Druckmann made revenge and retribution main themes of the game. However, notion that violence begets only further violence isn't groundbreaking in storytelling. It corresponds to Druckmann's writing style: "simple story, complex characters". In spite of this, I believe that there are only two well written personages, whose goals and motivation are perfectly explained: Abby and Tommy. It's hard to compare Yara and Lev to Sam and Henry, since the first pair has got far more screen time. As for the rest of the characters, such as Dina, Jesse, Owen, Mel, Manny and Nora I didn't feel a lot of emotional investment in them. Nevertheless, as far as I am concerned, the biggest drawback of the sequel is its plot. I want to highlight two moments, which were the most controversial for me. The first one is the ambush in the hotel, where Abby told Ellie that WLF let her and Tommy live and they "wasted it", because this duo killed Abby's friends. However, this scene is built on the false premise: Ellie asked all of the aforementioned people to tell her Abby's location and everyone refused and tried to kill her instead. The second plot twist that devastated me was final fight between Abby and Ellie. The fact that Ellie forgives her enemy and allows her to escape was supposed to show Ellie's character growth, it meant to be a parallel to her attempt to forgive Joel and also she saw Abby as the last protector of Lev, whereas the same could be applied to her and Joel in the first game. Whilst I think that it's a wonderful idea, it diminishes the values of nearly a hundred individuals Ellie killed on her revenge quest. The vast majority of these people were not directly related to Joel's execution, but they paid with their lives. On the other hand, the person, who organized this operation is shown mercy. In my opinion there are two ways to faithfully deliver following idea. Firstly, allow Ellie to eliminate Abby and Lev, then show that now she is hunted by Lev's death too and Dina abandons her. In this scenario, Ellie will have her revenge, but there will be no satisfaction from it. Furthermore, she will be alone and the audience knows it's her greatest fear. Second option is to let Ellie live in the farm with Dina nurturing JJ, yet she still suffers from PTSD and has to struggle to live peacefully, since Ellie is afraid that sooner or later the violence will erupt again.… Expand

Una historia que te atrapa y aunque concuerde con que el otro final hubiera estado mejor no quita que es la mejor obra de naughty dog con muchas situaciones arriesgadas que le gustan a partir del público y desagrada a otras. Perfectamente podrían encantar las ediciones arriesgadas u al contrario odiar buena parte del juego por esas desiciones.     Joel becomes a bumbling idiot that easily trusts and gives his real name to absolute strangers. Remember the cannibal incident where Ellie was kidnapped because they were looking for Joel? Remember how Joel rescues Ellie from the fireflies and they are probably looking for him to avenge Marlene? Because the game or Joel sure don't, after all, if Joel doesn't let his guard down and magically lose all his weapons the game can't abide by **** fantasies and kill him off only 2 hours into the game.

    Ellie's depiction in this game is so sad I honestly believe Neil personally hates her. Not only does she have to watch her surrogate father die in front of her, witness Tommy loses his eye, and is abandoned by her girlfriend who also takes everything they had in their house. If that wasn't enough she loses 2 of her fingers rendering her unable to play the guitar and doesn't get revenge on Abby who caused everything.    … Expand

    The game play didn't change much, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as I love the tense stealth scenes and especially when there's dozens of enemies to beat. But the story was just a back and forth revenge tale that didn't go any where and left me frustrated with the lack of choices. Maybe there's a setup for the Last of Us 3 but for the money I paid I hoped for a better overarching story.

    I really enjoyed my multiple playthroughs of this game. This was the dark and emotional story that I was expecting ND to deliver. The game is beautiful and the story is so well written.     The beautiful graphics, the outstanding physics, all ruined by a team of writers that just cared about being politically correct.

    They seem not to understand their own creation and why it provides such a great experience, trashing it completly half-way into it with the worst decision i've seen in a game ever.

    The worst part of it all is that, at the same time, this game brings us the very best representation of diversity in the history of the industry, and one to match the very best accounting for all forms of art. It's a feat for the history books, a gift for mankind. Also the boldness to write such a very deep story, bringing a game to a new level, honoring this form of art.

    But the fact that suspension of disbelief, the very most important fundament of this kind of art, is completly detroyed half-way into the game, transforms it into a simpleton arcady flick for half the time you will be playing it. In the end, its a game that's brilliant because of story and immersion, but that is rendered null half way into it, leaving you with the same feeling you would if you left the theater in the midlle of a movie you love.

    To clarify, the plain 0 score i gave, although i made some compliments to the game, is more about how i love TLOU and the first half of Part II than what i feel about the game itself. It makes me want to amplify my voice the most i can. Selfish, i know, but needed this time.    … Expand

The theme of revenge is more simplistic than the orginal game, but I think that it is still fairly realistic how the characters are portrayed. A lot of people critic the behaviour of Ellie as being quite dumb and dangerous, but I would say it is quite realisticI liked this game quite a lot but I would argue that storywise, the story is not quite as strong and powerful as the first game.     Writing was pretty bad. The characters were shallow, the themes were lacking, and there were scenes that were simply gratuitous. The game relies too much on the shock factor for my taste.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
