This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is better than the first one. Joel was a bad person, Ellie is a bad person, and (shockingly) Abby is a bad person. You can try to convince yourself that "That's just the world they live in, they do these things to survive", but you're just deluding yourself. When you look at both the original and Part II as one story, you carry out horrific acts in the name of your own self interest, with Joel probably being the worst of the three. This game isn't about Joel, but given the community response, you'd swear that you spend more than 90 seconds playing as him.
Naughty Dog have given the player a chance to look at the idea of actions and consequences. You pulled a trigger in 2013, and the effect of that has finally come to fruition, but not as you would have liked. Just like Joel massacring a hospital full of people, Ellie's actions in Seattle had consequences, offered from the perspective that we as players rarely ever think about. The first couple of hours playing as Abby were frustrating, but the moment that sealed her story as it's own troubled journey was when you decide to go back for Yara and Lev. She wasn't acting out of the goodness of her heart, but trying to prove to herself that she was a good person, it was a self-serving act. Just like Joel "saving" Ellie, just like Ellie's acts of vengeance. By the end of this game, I wanted either both Ellie and Abby to live or both to die, because the pitiable state that their respective journeys leave them in doesn't make you feel like the hero you want to be at the end of a 30 hour game. You should feel the weight of your actions.
Just to comment, I liked Joel, with every second of screen time in this game, he was allowed to grow, which is why he had to die. No matter how much you grow, the sins of the past have a way of catching up to you, it's just fortunate that he had enough of an impact on Ellie to keep her from following the same path that he took.

This is a game that MUST be played to the very end to fully understand and fairly judge. If I were to have rated this game after 4 hours or 14 hours of gameplay, I’d give it a much lower score due to preconceived notions and dissatisfaction with the story. However, after completing the game, it gets a 9 out of 10 and it is well earned. In many ways, it is a masterpiece, but with minor flaws.

The ending is also very good. there ate subtle hints throughout the story and when they all come together they reveal a second emotional layer to the game, f. e. in the beginning Joel sings: "if I ever were to lose you, I'd surely lose myself". This accurately depicts the whole story. The gameplay is smooth and has improved so much from the first game, the graphics are also amazing. Expand

People who played the game know that yes it's beautiful technologically and the acting is great, but being realistic the story is bad. The story changes an important character trait of Joel just so they could kill him off. We all expected him to die, but a death scene should feel earned, not happen because the writers couldn't think of a reasonable way to kill him in context. They didn't flesh out any of the new characters well and besides Abby, who is shown a lot but lacks proper humanization. Apparently, by telling me that a person has friends and a dog I should immediately feel bad for them, like did they not expect me to think she also is a typical human?? They treat the player like they don't understand much without explanation, and then at the end, they add info that you should have known the entire game (Ellie knew the entire time but we conveniently aren't told despite playing her) for an emotional blow. In the end, it feels like a good idea that was ruined by cop-outs and bad writing techniques. Not to mention the fact the game is specifically made to make you feel bad which as expert game designer Reggie says, "If it's not fun why bother" In the end, you play as Ellie who's okay with brutally murdering everyone who hasn't done anything wrong and decides to stop by the time she gets to the person who deserves her rage. The game just feels like they had a point but no idea how to get it across. Expand

Everyone seems to be in agreement that the graphics are outstanding (and so is the acting, for that matter). The gameplay is arguably better than the first even if that leaves some elements still to be desired.

Last of Us, however, is really about the story and it's the storytelling where everything falls apart in the sequel. I made excuse after excuse to myself while playing in a desperate attempt to love Last of Us 2 but there are critical plot holes surrounding key events that you really need to buy into. Worst of all, these could have easily been written much more convincingly without changing the quite controversial plot that likely would have gotten more players to appreciate the game.

The roughly 25 hour journey is mostly unpleasant, depressing, and decidedly not enjoyable. It seems like some people were moved by the moral but for many that point was obvious and insultingly clear from the start without giving the player any agency in what choices were made or how they played out. Last of Us 2 dragged everything I loved about the first game down with it, kicking and screaming. The story was needlessly clumsy and it's the player who pays in spades for this failure.

I wish I had never played this game, and for what little was done very well there is an ocean of failures that have me never wanting to revisit any game in this franchise.

Although there were certain parts I wasn't happy with such as Abby's section because of how it strays to far from the main story for too long. However when taking in the rest of the game and Ellie's story, I found myself playing through intense situations that had my pulse pounding in such an exciting way. The mechanics whilst mostly the same as in the first game are still excellent and the graphical quality has obviously progressed greatly in the time since the first game released.
However, the late game is significantly more streamlined and seems almost like the storytelling is out of order. The game will frequently jump around with exposition to the point that it seems as if some scenes where misplaced. The later story isn't compelling repeating the same few story beats over and over. This is exacerbated with the main message of the game that being revenge is bad.

A lot of parts felt very dragged just to make the game longer. I know the story doesn’t have the obligation to make the us players happy with the ending and all, but during 90% of the time the game just felt unpleasing to play. I wanted more from the relation of Joel and Ellie, but all I got was flashbacks. That was awful. The gameplay got repetitive at the end(same executions).
Animazioni fluide e realistiche, molte conestuali perciò uniche.
    Grazie Naughty Dog.

Its a game full of surprises and twists, combined with a imersive gameplay in a semi open world where you can deeply explore and craft. In my opinion Tlou2 is a better experience and a better game than Tlou. A must have

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After finishing this game for nearly 30hrs since day 1 I would say its a roller coaster experience. I never felt so emotionally drained after finishing a game. Everything was going great until you had to play as Abby, it just felt so wrong and forced. I understand what naughty dog is trying to do here but it just didn't happened. I never felt connected to Abby even they let us see her own perspective they even try to make Ellie's group look as the bad guys. I admire their courage to try something new or different though. Lastly after everything Ellie's have done she just let her go, its like a slap on my face but in my own view i think its still the best approach at that kind of situation but it could be a much better ending if Ellie didnt go after her in Santa Barbara. At times, the pacing of the game sucks too. I think its unfair to the developers to give such a very low rating given everything else was a masterpiece, from graphics, combat & gameplay. Aside from the story, my only complain is the repetitive QTEs. Overall its such a wonderful gaming experience. It was so brutal and ruthless! Some of the reviews are obviously bogus no one can finished the game right after its release. Maybe they're just bandwagons who saw the leak. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. *spoilers within* I absolutely loved this game, I am currently playing new game ++ and I still cannot get enough. The gameplay is, quite frankly, incredible and feels extremely realistic. Lots of new things have been added to help with stealth, getting around and combat. You can go go prone and hide under cars and in tall grass, lay trap mines and climb to use height as your advantage. Enemies are smarter than ever, they can surround you, use dogs to track you and use stealth to surprise you. It makes it even more challenging and exciting. The environment is absolutely gorgeous and the sound is just amazing, I cannot get enough of it. The infected have been greatly improved upon and are more terrifying and dangerous than ever. The infected boss battle is probably one of the most terrifying and exciting boss battles I have ever played and there is also a part where you have to make your way through a collapsed and dangerous hotel with infected growing into the wall. The story is completely different to the first one, there has been a lot of criticism (unfair I would say) of this, with some people getting to the first part, stopping and then **** about it on the internet. I admit, I was upset at the way the story was heading initially, however, I powered through and absolutely fell in love with it. There are very few games out there that let you play against the ‘good guys’ and grow to emphasise and even adore the villain. I use the words ‘villain’ and ‘good guys’ loosely here, no-one is a hero or villain in the last of us world, Joel did some terrible things, as has Ellie and so has Abby. There is one part in the game where you have to play as the villain and fight the ‘good guy’ who you have grown to love over the past two games. The concept is risky but I think it has really paid off here. All in all I’d give the game a solid 10 out of 10.

I cannot wait for factions 2 and hope to god there is a last of us part 3 at some point.

Horrible bait and switch marketing. Story lacks logic, making the gameplay feel hollow and pointless. Why would I keep on going in playing this, when the driving force of the game is its story, which its as weak as its ever been. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay was pretty good as well. But...
I expected a lot more from Naughty Dog. The story is terrible.
Firstly, Abby kills Joel (protaganist in TLOU1) in the beginning and a few hours later, we are forced to play as Abby. There is zero player motivation to play as Abby. I just wanted her dead the entire time. Why am I playing as her? The writers then decide to guilt-trip (so we can empathize with Abby) the player by showing us Abby's humanity, story and how we (Ellie) murdered her friends. It didn't work because we have already killed so many other people along the way who also had friends and family. I had to sit through 10 hours of Abby gameplay. I was so happy when it ended.

Ludonarrative dissonance. A pregnant lady in the game insists on going into combat, and all her friends are ok with it? There is no mention of how it's irresponsible and stupid. No? ok... Next, Joel would never trust anybody in the TLOU1, but in TLOU2, he just enters a room full of strangers and gets killed....seriously? Next, Abby was saved by Yara, Abby is determined to repay her kindness by getting her meds. But when Joel saves Abby, she does not hesitate to kill Joel. Ok, I guess she wanted Joel dead because he murdered her dad. I'll let this slip.

The new characters introduced have so little screentime and are not very likeable.
The cycle of revenge never ends. Where is the character development in the story? Ellie wants to kill Abby. Ok, that's a start. Next, Abby wants to kill Ellie when she kills Abby's friends. Nearing the end when Ellie fails, She decides to try and kill Abby again. When does this end? Well, the end is bad. Nothing gets solved (Ellie and Abby live).
One could argue that the theme of revenge is that it does not solve anything, but it doesn't change the fact that I felt like I wasted my time seeing nothing get accomplished.

To say "I loved this game" is probably a poor way to phrase it - because, wow, this game is so bleak and violent. The excellent non-linear storyline does a great job at showing both the humane and inhumane sides of the main characters. The graphics and sound design are both incredible too. This game has got a lot of hate for "bad storytelling/ writing", but in my opinion the story is masterfully crafted and beautifully told. Just because someone doesn't like what happened in the story, doesn't mean the writing is bad.
For anyone who wants the happy, magic, dancing with fairies and rainbow princesses storyline that most games give us, then perhaps a story that happens during an apocalypse isn't the game for you?
I think I've made it clear that I think the story was brilliant, I'm not saying people that don't like it are wrong, everyones entitled to their own opinion. But saying the game has been written poorly is definitley out of order.

But aside from that, the other aspects of the game are fantastic! The visuals blow my mind, there is one scene where the characters and backdrop actually look real. I just wonder how the PS5 will elevate this game once it's remastered! (Which it surely will be right?)
The gameplay is much like the first, but improved. Everything feels more fluid and the way you can move around the obstacles and terrain, which goes hand in hand with the more open spaces we are given, especially compared to the first game, make it much more realistic. Even small touches like leaning over a ledge before dropping down makes the game feel real.
I think, even if you disliked the story, everyone can agree that the gameplay is next level.

If you're new to TLOU and are on the edge about buying it, I'd wait a little while for a sale maybe? But if, like me, you've waited 7 years for this game to come then you need to buy it NOW!
If you love it or hate it, it's an experience none the less and what NaughtyDog has achieved with this game is unreal.
    10/10 hands down.

Its not what I expected but have never, ever experienced such an emotional roller coaster during a video game. I personally think the story matches this cruel world, and another happy ending as we had in Part One would be unrealistic. The story is written extremely well, so good, that the story transfers feelings, exactly as in Part One. Everything else, Sound Design, Art (Characters, Environment), Actors, Soundtrack, VFX, Gameplay, AI, Programming is very well done and as a creator (game artist) I would say that its unfair to give "0" ratings just because the story was "bad" or just not as someone would have expected it. It plays with the concept of perspective in the characters, to develop certain empathy but also necessary distance. And in the end you understand all the motivations behind it all because the script fits perfectly into its 4 acts. It really moved me much more than the first one, apart from being much more plausible and spun. For example, here I find more convincing reasons to kill an enemy than I had in the first game. I really feel like this universe is built in a more adult way. Even in certain issues like the characters looking away when we try to get close to them with the camera is a sign that their lives belong to them, like for example in Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, where we are one of the voices handling Senua and he looks away from our excessive control. Their lives are theirs. And that's why at certain times the decisions are feared by them and not by us. The Last of Us 2 is probably the best video game I've ever played. Expand

If you want an un-challenging but good/fun story line with a happy ending, you should play Uncharted series, they are amazing in their own right. But TLOU2 will challenge and almost exhaust you, but if you keep an open mind, it will leave a mark on you just like any other great piece of art does.

I really loved this game, the gameplay is incredible and the graphics are the best there is in this generation, as for the story, at the beginning I had my doubts and I was really a little disgusted by it, but after finishing it 2 times it was liking more, I do not think that it surpasses the history of the first, but I think that we should not compare the two games, since they areI really loved this game, the gameplay is incredible and the graphics are the best there is in this generation, as for the story, at the beginning I had my doubts and I was really a little disgusted by it, but after finishing it 2 times it was liking more, I do not think that it surpasses the history of the first, but I think that we should not compare the two games, since they are different points of view ... This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am putting a 7 and that's a favour so i will not go more down. I respect the hard work they put in this game however putting a hard work into something doesnt necessarily mean its gonna be good.
The game is absolutely amazing in terms of acting graphics gameplay rich environment that doesnt let you to get bored of it and also the dismemberment! Woo boy that was cool and satisfying but the story is something that bothered me.
I played the game very cautiously and NO it's not about how Joel died, its not about Abby playing half the game with her its about HOW joel dies and it's not because of the golf club it's about (YO I AM TOMMY THIS IS JOEL) to a stranger they know **** about and followed like sheeps. Before you say to me the excuse Neil Druckmann said about the 4 years of Joel's been soft and love changed him... No man,20 years of killing and interacting with ****ty people 4 years of softness cannot erase this brutality! It just cant.Maybe in the world of Neil but I didnt like it simple as that.
Basically Joel did ****ty things to survive with Tommy as well and we more clearly see it in Tlou 2 with Tommy.Next is about Abby, I give 0 Fs about her backstory and how to play a mini game with a bow so at the end Owen will show me his Christmas surprise. I dont also give a damn about the flash backs with owen and Abby been younger and exploring the aquarium. If you want to make her sympathetic try harder because that wasnt the way and made the game boring in this. And of course I'm against the sexual scene with Owen, it was unnecessary and it's a god damn game, not a porn

Now about something people probably will get mad about. Homosexuality....BRUH LIKE WTF
we know they are people we know they have rights we know they can do whatever they want in their lives but promoting it so much in this game made me puke! Book stores with full of homosexual books, Gay flags on the road and the WORST AND FOR MOST Lev/Lilly is a transexual!!! You play50%of abbys story protecting a women who became a guy and the reason you protecting her/him is because his Cult is against it! Why THIS SHOULD BE THE REASON OF THE CHASE ???why they didnt chase her cause she did something really bad to her cult disrespecting them! Dont tell me "this is the reason"Oh yeah by the way I am not homophobic , I appreciate and respect all opinions people have and they can choose their way of belief and also I have gay people as friends and I have 0 problem with them .Putting it in a game like this and promoting it like theres no tomorrow...... that's a big nono for me and it shows a huge amount of insecurity for the person who wanted so much to put this stuff inside!.It feels like Neil Druckmann says to me "Become gay you have to" and I felt uncomfortable as it's against my beliefs and this is why we dont put things like that in a game. Escape reality play games they say. And for the finale is the ending. I had no problem Ellie not killing Abby but the whole thing I forgive you etc.. Revenge is bad is a bit cliche but it was cool, all I am saying is that they could have done it better. Seen Joel at the end with Ellie 1 day before he dies was amazing and how it got connected.Thats MY opinion which i dont wait everyone to agree with but hey this is why theres a comment section and rating from your own perspective! All opinions are respected just remember....The truth is different for everyone but the objective truth is common for anybody.
    Peace!

When i finished with Ellie in Seattle, having to play with Abby just bothered me, but throughout the game, the way of make her feel like a real person really entered me. If the game makes me love the "antagonist" i think that has to be called god tier writing somehow.. Really true masterpiece, you all must play this game. Expand

The ending of this game does not make any sense.

    Plot armors + holes everywhere

it is barley a game its a really boring soap opera that is a far cry from the story build up from the original. when you have to push yourself just to get through the next part it is not a game anymore. graphics are top notch but the game is full of bugs, horrible written AI scripts bugging around or doing nothing.

TLOU 1 was my favorite single player game. Replayed it 3x. Loved the multiplayer. Was immersed in the game, loved the story along with Joel and Ellies character progression and struggles/tough decision throughout.

Have been more excited for this game than any other i can think of..EVER. I cannot believe THIS is what i waited for. Ruined everything i loved about the game and regret playing

Cannot believe ND could mess this up so incredibly badly.

Loved it. It's an epic story about the futility of revenge, and it works. Pacing is maybe a little off at times, with some sections dragging on a bit too long, but that's about my only (minor) complaint. Graphics, sound, story and gameplay are all top notch and an improvement on the 1st TLOU in every department.

Great game, but not inovated in his dinamic. The playability is repetitive, like the first game.
And the history, was not expected, but notthing to complain about that. The grafics ia very good, but the same of uncharted 4 but qith another mood.

And they gave me a horrible intro and **** ending

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
