I loved the first game and I’m glad I played this one but this was a major let down. Naughty Dog has been my favourite studio for some time but this was a real black spot for them. Overall this game had a lot of promise but hasn’t lived up to the hype. Expand

I give it a 5 for the graphic section, its soundtrack and its gameplay and new built-in mechanics, it is not a bad game but its history leaves something to be desired as perhaps the crude death of Joel totally unnecessary and the stupid revenge of Ellie that does not He met and we wasted hours of play to end up leaving Abby alive and running away in her boat, on top so that Ellie loses her 2 fingers and her courtship with Dina. #GoogleTraslate Expand

(Sorry for any spelling errors or confusion, im from Denmark)
I have played through the whole game

Abby tortured and executed joel for pleasure, and never felt sorry. How can you side with a character like that?

    How to fix it:

Let joel be a bigger part of the start of the game.

Let joel be held at gun point in to the room.

Dont torture joel, just shot him in the leg and let him have a final word to elle, before he get shot in the head.

In abbys story find a way to make abby show she have
sympathy for elle some how (Elle did kill all her friends, so i dont know how)

Elles last flashback when trying to kill Abby :
Elle: "If you ever got killed i will still go on a killing spree, to kill the people responsible"
Joel: "I dont want you to do that, i dont deserve that, after how i lied to you and killed the fireflies" or something like that.

    Gameplay 7/10
    Graphics 10/10
    Story 7/10
    Writing 3/10
    Final score: 5/10

Expand

Watched streams on twitch, no emotional attachment to any new characters at all, the characters are boring and forced. Why would the player control a boring character half of the game and the plot doesn’t make any sense.

Will buy 2nd hand game disc for this when everyone turn in at game stores and kill Abby to ease my mind when I control her.

The story is just bad. I don't give 2 balls about Lev or Lara or whatever her name is. I didn't hate playing as Abby as much as I thought I would, but she was still **** boring compared to bae Ellie. In the end, after like 20 hours, we don't even get to murk Abby, we let her go. RIDICULOUS.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I tried really hard to like this game, from the combat, the gameplay mechanics, even to the plot. However I found myself disliking the game, the more I played of it, from the death of Joel, to having to play as his killer and forced to sympathize with her character through some of her missions, and the ending of Ellie not even being able to commit to how far you have to take her character. It’s not good, the first few hours before Joel does, that was good, that felt like maybe Joel and Ellie would find a way to resolve their conflict. I get that what was done in the first games ending, had to have some resolution of its own, but doing it this way was not the way to go for me.
I honestly feel like, this game lost its sense of joy in its dark world. I loved playing as Joel and Ellie in the first game, even how the characters developed. With the sequel, I just can’t get with the narrative and the ending just feels like a slap in the face to the whole adventure. Gameplay wise, I think mechanics could have been upgraded from what was done before, yet I feel like a lot of politics and hypocrisy are also to blame for what became of this game. So many people in industry want to praise this game instead of look at its flaws, and this game has some flaws in both narrative and gameplay. Graphics and animation are great, but they do not save a game if the story isn’t great with it. The character of Abbey that you play as, I hated having to play with her, it wasn’t even just her torturing Joel, it was her character as a whole. I’ll be honest, when this games trailers originally introduced back in 2016, I thought she was Ellie’s mother and that they would explain don what happened to her and how Ellie became immune to begin with. I played Left Behind, I know the story, but that would have been a great way to go and having Ellie and Joel go on an adventure that meshed the two storylines together where they meet in different time periods. The whole cult idea could still be utilized, but I think the game shouldn’t forget about its zombie roots either. I’m sad to see a promising series go this route, and really hope that if something like this is attempted again, that the characters you play as well as the story, aren’t so misguided and without life.

Obviously it looks and sounds amazing and the acting is second to none. While the game play isn't fantastic I think it serves it's purpose just fine. Hell, there are even some elements of the story I liked but man, for the most part the story is a complete mess. This game introduced a ton of new characters, only 2 or 3 of them get any development or significant screen time and I'm expected to feel bad for killing them on more than a basic human empathy level. I think the biggest problem this game has is it's structure. There are scenes where I thought they were only there cause they didn't know where else to put them. If the game started with the three flashback scenes of Joel and Ellie and also Built up Abby in that time before she kills Joel the story would already be five times better than it already is. This game needed a better writer to fully take advantage of the themes that had been chosen. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To be clear for an overall experience I don't think this game is the worst of the worst, I think its an OK game. Without including the drama around the game, the thing that turned me off was the story, and no I don't just mean a specific event that happens 2 hours into the game. The story as a whole for me was just not nearly as good as its predecessor The Last Of Us. For starters, the game felt forced. What I mean by this is it did not have an organic feeling that any good story would have. In many instances it felt as if things happened because they needed to happen rather than naturally occuring and this is where The Last Of Us and The Last Of Us Two really differentiate themselves. The controversial scene around the 2 hour mark did feel as if it was one of the many instances of the game needing a certain trigger to start. The event was in no way shape or form clever and unique which really did spoil the moment all together. I would even argue it was out of character and did not bring justice to a certain character in The Last Of Us. Another instance of an out of place event would be at the end of the game. The ending truly left me puzzled as to what it wanted to accomplish. You look at games like the God Of War trilogy which bases its entire story around revenge and is loved by many fans.
Why did The Last Of Us Two fail? It's because it is not true to its main capturing theme of revenge. Ellie goes through the entire story wanting to avenge a certain character just to not get her revenge at the very end. This left me baffled especially since the writers did such a poor job on winning my sympathy over the person who killed a certain character. People were left unsatisfied with this ending because nobody cared for the murderer. This underwhelming and unsatisfying story left many unhappy because many love The Last Of Us for its story. That's usually what I value the most when buying single-player games, especially ones made by naughty dog. We were all expecting an engaging story filled with character development and mixed emotions on other characters. All we got was a black and white narrative that failed at changing our views on who was good and who was bad. On the contrary, The Last of Us Two did have stellar graphics which I can proudly say they’re some of the best graphics I have ever seen. The environment you play in is so diverse and beautiful I found myself occasionally just stopping and gazing off to the background. The gameplay was much smoother and more polished than its predecessor The Last Of Us Two. With regards to the gameplay aspect, I did enjoy every moment of combat that this game had to offer and enjoyed exploring the The Last Of Us Two environment. It may seem as my review is one-sided, but I just had a lot to say about the story. Other than that I can confidently say The Last Of Us Two did have beautiful graphics and immersive gameplay that people will enjoy.

I loved the difficulty. I played on survivor and it is challenging but rewarding. survivor difficulty is in my opinion the best way to play the game. I also loved the gameplay (fights are long, brutal, and satisfying), the sound, the soundtrack (especially the new use of synths during the fight scenarios), and the graphics. However, at the end of the day this game is story focused. For me, the story feels wrong and I wasn't sure how to feel about it until I finished the game. I respect Naughty Dog for what they tried to achieve and even though you feel some of the moments in the end I don't think they were able to do the same with the main characters. There are still some beautiful story moments involving Ellie and Joel reminiscent of the first game but the bad storytelling stuff is just extremely hard to ignore. I am sad to say this but I did not like this game, from a technical point of view the game is very good, the tech/art team did a great job and the accessibility options they included should set a precedent for upcoming titles. The gameplay is good, similar to TLOU1, however, I found the plot, the message, and the character development cheap and tiring.

This game feels awkward and at times even boring, maybe due to poorly developed characters combined with a linear story and repetitive combat scenarios, at least for a 20+ hours journey. Many of the characters dialogues felt disconnected from the multiple shocking events that were presented to the player. In my personal experience, the game tried to push some feelings so hard that they ultimately lost me. In the end, instead of being immersed in the universe, I was more like, oh look here the writers are using these tricks to make me empathize with this one character as opposed to this character who is doing this other thing…there is a lot of plot armor and is hard to ignore. Moreover, there is a new character who basically has a very similar arc than TLOU1, which is ok but this is done in a pushy, rushed way and at least for me it did not work. It is interesting how I went from caring about the people in this universe to being completely disconnected, and now I just don’t care what will happen to them. I think if this were a TV series, that you can leave it on the background while doing some other activity is ok, but as a game that requires almost all of your attention its a waste of time. Maybe the writers were trying to do some kind of ‘social experiment’ because It is hard to believe that no-one pointed out the flaws during the production stages. However, I do not know if having such a polarized reception and making a game to shock and promote hate is something to be proud of.

I loved the story of TLOU1 because I found it fresh compared to other post-apocalyptic worlds (e.g., the walking dead). I think for someone that doesn’t care too much about story and consistency this is just a cliche plot, the gameplay is fine. If TLOU1 has a special place in your heart, I would recommend to not buy this game without reading more about it, because the advertisement is kind of misleading and you can find yourself wasting your free time on an unpleasant experience. I think the best aspect of this game has been its progression from a tragedy to a comedy, the fact that many people overcome this kind of disbelief together and ended up laughing about it and letting it go, better titles will come. In my opinion, this game is to be bought on sale price and a reminder that sometimes preordering may not be the smartest decision.

Gameplay wise there not a lot to complain about but the horseback riding can be glitchy when going in between objects. And the switching menu can feel very slow when going from gun to heath pack or other objects. Now the biggest problem of the game the story. I'm ok with Joel getting killed off but I don't like the way the did it, and it don't really feel like it need to happen. And now Abby, I don't like or want to play this character. When you play as Abby you kill Joel, Jesse, and almost kill Tommy, Ellie, and Dina. The attempt to humanize Abby fall flat on me I don't care about her. But I did like Yara and Lev. In all honesty if you leave Abby in the game still as the main villain but take out all her playable story and you still can find out why she killed Joel/ maybe change the way she killed him. And put all the time they put on Abby toward Ellie and Dina relationship and their journey to Seattle, and maybe you can also try to put Yara and Lev stroy in there as well. It would have been a better story in my opinion. I also have a problem with how Abby find Ellie in her hide out. I don't think Ellie dumb enough to write where she is hiding out on a map. The ending had me disappointed to say the least. I loved the original last of us but hated the ending. I guess I can say I like this ending more but it's still bad, she lost Dina but I don't care to much about their relationship because they didn't really build it up. It's like you really didn't lose anything other than Joel at the end and what happened to Tommy did he go after Abby again or stay home. The game isn't as bad as people are say but it's no where as good as critics are saying. It's a shame this could have been a amazing story/game but they just didn't make the game that they should have. Expand

At first I purchase this game in advance, but after I watch somebody play the first hour of this game, I immediately ask for a full refund. Then I watch the whole gameplay in some players' live streams. Actually, the whole story isn't too bad but the story telling really sucks while Ellie acts like an idiot and Abby acts like a real person. And many characters' death is so cheap such as Joel and Jessie who died casually. About the narrative structure, I think if you put Abby's memories and story before the story of Ellie without telling players that Abby's revenge target is Joel, it will be much better. Anyway, as a player who had played tlou, I don't think tlou2 is an acceptable sequel while it has no respect for tlou and fans who waited 7 years to play this.
