The best game of the year.

O conceito da história não é o mais original, porém a forma que é contada e os personagens são tão bons que torna essa uma das histórias mais(ou a mais) emocionantes do mundo dos video games.
Gráficos, trilha sonora e jogabilidade 10/10.

Where to even begin with this mess. The game is suppose to be a sequel to the first game but takes a dip on it's story telling, characters and world. This game should be used as an example on how to not make a story heavy game. As a loving fan of the first game I would now like to just forget that this mess ever made it onto my console.

As a fan of the first game, I was absolutely HYPED for this game. When The Last of Us 2 opens up, you get a beautiful world, familiar soundtrack, and the return of both of the characters we all grew to love in the first game, Joel and Ellie. When The Last of Us 2 opens up, you get a beautiful world, familiar soundtrack, and the return of both of the characters we all grew to love in the first game, Joel and Ellie. For the first 2 hours of gameplay, you feel right at home in the world. But it soon begins to fall apart. It is hard for someone who has replayed the first game multiple times to realize that the sequel is not up to par. TLOU is about characters and story. Many people, myself included, did not play the game for the gameplay, which is just like a lot of other games. It was the story and the chemistry between Joel and Ellie as a father-daughter duo that drew us all in. Part two feels like it completely disregards the relationship established in the first and the characters seem to change personality and consistency just to further the plot along. There are times where the characters feel like a different character entirely and I was left thinking, “(insert character name) wouldn’t have done that. They were smarter than that.”

After about 7 hours of gameplay, it begins to feel flat. In a world full of undead, even the living lose life. The story becomes cliche and predictable, and there is a section that is about 10 hours long that focuses on things that have nothing to do with the main story except that it is trying to establish a backstory for a new character. In the first game you learned about the characters as they pushed through the story, a 10 hour flashback was not needed to establish the characters. A lot of the times, things were just unnecessary and by the halfway point I was just wanting it to be over because I was just bored.

Boring is not a word I would like to use to describe The Last of Us 2, but it is what it is.

The ending is anticlimactic and it feels as if the game was trying too hard to be artsy and deep instead of just telling a good story. I felt so much emotion for these characters in the first game, and to this day I can’t get through the prologue without crying, but I felt nothing in part 2. The characters feel so different and inconsistent that if it weren’t for the fact that clickers were present, you could easily forget that this is even a TLOU game.

All that said, the graphics, soundtrack, and acting are phenomenal. The story, is flat and feels more dead than the undead themselves.

This game is definitely getting bombed by negative reviews on purpose, but don’t just ignore the audience score because of that because there are some valid reasons for disliking this game.

This game is one of the most disturbing and conflicting games I've seen. It is the perfect example of how to not make use of good talent and and how to turn a potential diamond into a turd.
The game is pretty much great from the technical point of view (graphics, animations, sound and ok gameplay), but all that is nullified by the amazingly bad and nonsensical scrip, most unlikable new characters, the deletion of all the good history and message from the first game along with the two main characters which are completely destroyed, one worse than the other - from the start of the game. Smart characters are made dumb, expert survivors are transformed into amateurs camping in the woods and logic is thrown out of the window, so much that no matter how much suspension of disbelief you apply you cannot compute such nonsense.
And if that was not enough, the story is a perpetual cycle of revenge, cruelty and hate in which you have no choices, or alternatives to chose from, just a straitjacket ride for you, the player. The ending is fittingly equally worse, like the entire game, from start to finish. I does not have a positive message, it does not teach you anything good or useful and most importantly it is not fun at all to play, it's more akin to emotional and mental torture - that's how playing this game feels. Isn't that the opposite of what games should be?

The best analogy to describe this game would be this: imagine a person, a very good looking person, famous , with great charisma and a lot of wealth. Now this is what you know about that person and so far the promo is making you like what you know and to know that person more, but as you start your relationship you find out that this was an outer shell and it was a deceiving lie. That person turns out to be a very disturbed and deranged individual, that likes to torture and kill people for it's own pleasure and does that wile forcing you to watch this sadistic horror story, enjoying the reactions and feelings you have witnessing that, as a sociopath would. You have no choice in the matter, you cannot influence anything, you cannot save anyone, not even influence the ending, which is as bad as everything else - the proverbial nail on the coffin. Your only choice that you actually had was right at the beginning, to believe or to not believe the false advertising? To enter the rabbit hole or not...
Oh, and get this, what if someone told you in advance how horrible that person is and showed you evidence to prove the facts?

Now let me ask you this: would you give that person a 10/10? Because of looks, fame, charisma and wealth? No sane person would... Would you give it a 7/10? No. That kind of person would get at least a life sentence conviction, if not a death penalty from society, which is equal to a ZERO as a grade.
This game is the equivalent of that in game rules and that is why it deserves a ZERO, so **** like this does not get encouraged to be made again in the future. But who am I kidding here, there is no stopping this trend, because this is what the future is, this is the narrative pushed forward... we can see it both in movies and in video games. So it will happen again and more frequent as time goes by.

The so called important "critics" score is a lie and only naive people will believe they are the voice of truth and reason anymore.

The game took me roughly 16 hours to finish and the ending is a massive letdown (the game ends with "Yep" ffs), I understand now why some scenes were hard for some of the team at Naughty Dog to model and/or complete fully, and I doubt anyone except Druckmann himself are proud of this so called "video game".

That brings me to my second point, the game is very linear aside from 1 or 2 open ended areas and feels more like an interactive movie than it does a playable video game, often just walking place to place or being placed into a cutscene, the Cordyceps infected are only in the game a handful of times making them feel like humanity isn't really under threat from them that much anymore. To put it into perspective what I mean about it being an interactive movie, a notable streamer had someone in his chat chart up just how much of what he played in 4 hours was actual gameplay, it came to 33 minutes OUT OF FOUR HOURS.

Save your money and wait for Ghosts of Tsushima, or buy Persona 4 Golden on PC if your money is burning a hole in your pocket. For fans of the first game the story is simply insulting, killing Joel in such a horrific and unceremonious manner, Ellie and Joel not really having any interaction outside of flashbacks/the ending and you don't even get the cathartic pleasure of giving Abby a taste of her own medicine after forcing me to play as and TRYING to get me to sympathize with this psychopathic serial killing woman for half of the game...

    Avoid. 2/10.

The average: Gameplay, similar to the first one, it feels dated (very PS3 like) and while I can forgive ND going so conservative in Uncharted 4 because it was their first game on PS4, in this one it´s underwhelming to the point that some mechanics (like the "radar" where you can detect close enemies) just feels akward to use. The only innovation is a button to dodge enemies that paradoxily feels like a step backwards because it just makes the mele combat too easy reducing the challenge of some enemies.

The (very) bad: The story. Clearly, the story it´s at the core of the game, and after watching the ending the only world to describe it is pretentious. I won´t do spoilers but most of the plot feels convoluted and lacks originality, reducing it to a basuc and uninteresting conventional revenge tale. The motivations of the characters are pure clichés and all of them lack real character archs (to the point that once you reach the ending of the game, most of their decisions simply make no sense. On top of that, the overall treatment of the narrative theme ("revenge is bad) is treated on a very oversimplified and even childish way, and to compensate for this lack of real deepness, the story constantly looks for a dark and edgy tone, including lots of violence and deaths of characters for shock value every time the script reaches a dead point (which sadly is quite often) but paradoxically, since all this characters are for the most part poorly written, uninteresting and pretty much copy-pasted from many other zombie films/games we all have seen before, it´s hard to feel anything for them besides indifference. You can see the game is trying to overcompensate for the underwhelming writting, overrealiance on chichés and poor character work by constantly telling the player what he/she has to feel and think instead of showing a story that naturally leads the player to feel that way. Also, they had a terrible narrative idea for the second part of the story that makes the whole thing feel like a chore. Clearly, the good reviews praising the great story of this game are either a product of people falling for the trick of confusing edginess with good storytelling or just people that wanted to like this game no matter what given how good TLOU 1 was, either way time will put this game where it belongs, and it will be remembered for being nothing but a pretentious sequel (if remembered at all).

But all those aside, the way the story is written is awful. I have thousands of people who agree with me too. The story is just written so badly and sometimes doesn't make sense. The "scenes" especially are horrendously written, no proper send off to the characters, just bam! death. The game also daila to make me feel as trying to understand abby while playing her. It just doesn't feel right cause you are forced into that one awful path of story. Most importantly, the finale is the most disappointing sequence of events I have experienced in my life. Talk about having a journey and almost fulfilling your mission but just a flashback makes you stop. I really don't get what the developers were doing so bad that didn't capture the mood and charm of the first game. Then suddenly the fight just stopped like nothing ever happened? That's some next level child cartoon cliche ending there. In summary, this by far is one of the worst story-driven game out there, only being carried by the next generation graphics it offered. Amazing gameplay, nice looking graphics. But with such unsatisfying story line nothing there is enjoyable. After 2 hours of game I did not want to continue it. Just checked the ending on the internet to see if it will get better, but it does not. The game is far beyond recovery and nothing can make it better.

-...everything else. The gameplay is servicable at best (the combat gets tedious after a few showdowns, it is basicly the same as in the first part and the "new" jump ""mechanic"" is laughable in terms of uses and how it actually feels)
-Oh dear god, the tresure that is the story of this game. I dont know where to begin, without any spoilers the story is a all about "revenge is bad" and nothing else. There are a few side elemnents of "love", and "love" is in huge quotations and some touch of "this guy that you killed about 5 hours ago, that you dont even know their name anymore, was a good guy". But the aspect of "revenge is bad" is just too overwhelming to the point where the game could be three big words saying ""revenge is bad" and it would deliver the same message.
The ending disastrous, plot lines dont make sense and the big "reveal" about motivations of the main bad guy is something out of bad fanfiction from 2013
The only good part about the story are flashbacks but even those were sometimes lackluster

Overall it is a disappointing and sad excuse attempt at a sequel

In the age of multiplayer games, TLOU2 was supposed to be the ultimate single-player experience that players have been anticipating ever since TLOU first came out, really. And it fails miserably, not only at providing that experience, but even at expanding gameplay, which should have been obvious after so many years of development.

I'll start with gameplay. Well, there's nothing revolutionary to witness. Most story-based games show similar mechanics. In its core, TLOU2 is quite fun - but it's nothing we haven't seen, nothing we haven't played and the challenge is really there. PS4 limitations are visible and where graphics are more than decent it's obvious that the game will come to PS5 in its full glory sometime later. Unfortunately most aspects like movement, physics, shooting are all surpassed even by GTA V, a game almost as old as the original TLOU.

Gameplay is definitely not the weak point of this game. It holds up okay and I doubt anyone expected more. However, here we can see the first sign of why the initial reviews were so undeserved.

    (spoilers ahead!)

Story is its own disaster. As most fans would tell you, the game does almost everything to stray as far away from expectations as possible. Is this deliberate? Maybe, who knows. Is it necessary? Absolutely not. I will not be going into details as I don't want to spoil and you can read it elsewhere, anyway. One thing I will say though: forcing the player to play for hours as the killer of many's favorite character of all time and then failing to give any sort of katharsis to the player, to other characters, only serves to make the experience as unpleasant and ultimately pointless as possible. Where I've been waiting for epic adventures and chalacter development, we've reseived GoT season 8 - like disappointment, deaths and no resolution to whatever the game started or hinted at.

The story really is a car wreck and I feel like I've wasted many hours that I should have put into something else.

Critic reviews are baffling to me. It's unbelievable how a game like that can score 100s so easily. There is absolutely zero material upon which it is based to give the game even a 90, although I can imagine someone's experience may be different to mine. But there's just not enough substance.

And you know what? For what I believe, it's really cool that the game involves LGBT characters. It's only painful that the way they have been introduced is so negative, that they are completely unlikable, but due to how prominent tat was, it will likely only serve to make the LGBT community more alienated than it already is. It's a real shame and the studio should fu*king apologize for that.

It’s the people that get hurt during the process of trying to get revenge and not being able to let something go eventually leads to losing the people you love. It shows how revenge can ruin everything you ever loved. I ultimately ended up not disliking Abby as much as I thought I would, I actually don’t dislike her at all. This game portrays everything they meant to perfectly. I understand that people did not like that Joel died but I cannot deny the fact that it is a great game. Expand

Apart of the forced controversy created by ND about their Agenda, the need of an “opene mind” to play and enjoy I must to say that I never mind any more If Joel dies, I Ellie is gay, if Abby is a genetic photosop male with a girl layer mask on his/her face and the graphics are better than ever and so.

After 15 hours of gameplay at survival mode (I made four runs of the first part at grounded mode) I would be terrible bored playing if this were about Ellie and Joel, the actuals nor the modified, trying to save the babe of Ellie with a non letal vacune on him.

Naugthy Dog is just the same since Uncharted One, an older, boring, saddist CGI that love to treat bad to the gamers that look for a real deal playing at max. The same boring scenes, or you shot kill everyone or you just get the trigger scape with a fast run.

TLOU2 is a boring game, with boring plots, nor one of them gets you on the shoes of anyone, you just don’t enjoy any situation. Maybe the Seattle underground was the best for me.

Easier than the first TLOU this game do not offered to me any kind of interest or motivation to play till the end. It’s terrible long, unnecessary long, but having spend 15 hour to get to the 10% of the story knowing that the next 80% I will be forced to play with Abby, a ramdon NCP which destiny I won’t ever care is a No Man I’m done Sir now!

This is the worst plot story ever made, supported under weaks fundaments like:
Joel: Omg I lied to Ellie
    Ellie: He lied to me
Dina: You lied to me about your immunity
Jess: You lied to me about you were pregnant
    Ellie: Agree
Abby: agree but about the ex of my boyfriend

This is stupid, ridiculous, shilly, lazy, boring.

But forgetting the plots, the characters, the storytelling, the gameplay is just the older boring Naughty Dogs it's been doing long time ago.

I forgot it for Uncharted 4 and TLOU 1 because the plot and the characters and their quest and conflict, but thanks to this twists I can say that the big problem is that ND loves to treat very very bad to the gamers and that’s because I rank to 0.

Forget about this Sony and ND and that God forgive them.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "This is in no way, shape or form a conspiracy theory." it's how I perceive it

The beauty of this Original game has it all regardless of sexual orientation, gender or ethnicity it worked for everyone because at the core the story did not take over a pile of crap that we are witnessing today. The Original story had a roles of CHARACTERS that you could relate to while developing EMOTIONS and TRUST over time given the harsh environment, SURVIVING not being pump up for no apparent reason. That has been obliterated and evaporated into a thin air. it is no longer the game that you have imagined, waited for several years or spent endless hours discussing it with your friends while coming up with theories of how the sequel would turn out, in my head it could have been 4 or 5 narratives to TLOU2 imagine the excitement!!

"you will never know unless you try it", "don't judge a book by its cover" will me response to that is - knowing fully what will happen every step of this journey, eventually won't gave any satisfaction of how this game turns out to be and on another note I don't need to experience every game out there to formulate an impression of where this game is heading. "Down Hill"

I'll say this "it gives me no pleasure that this game has been leaked but I’m happy that it saved my wallet 60 or plus dollars".

getting that out of the way. here is what I think, knowing that I haven't played the game but apparently "Neil Druckmen" seems to think it will satisfy everyone, so really even himself is theorizing it in his own way.

the man might've had the idea of the original game but the work, sweat and time of veterans within that studio has given it all to bring us an amazing game and would have been a probably a decent sequel if they were still there. Now they've left because questions are invalid, questions are toxic to the work place, questions are irrelevant to the "CAUSE" and those questions if ever raised you are a "homophobic". and all they are left with is a kindergarten staff, did they deliver on technical & visual aspects I bet they did. I have played so many games that would lack one thing or another but remember this is a sequel that has been tarnished by its story. this studio is a has been now, WHY?

This game has turned to a one man show to fulfill his destiny primarily saying "my way or the high way". look here, history is plain and simple "Amy Hennig" was pushed out, "Bruce Straley" is no longer there being burnt out of working and needs a break and at last the old crew has jumped ship, if you ask me this is a pattern of abusive behavior of a man who wants to be the alpha, dominate and enforce his vision. Probably he'd say in his head"I worked hard for it, I deserve this, this is my time to shine".

the game talks about revenge and in my opinion: this man is greedy and opportunistic schmuck, working for him or with him must feel like being in one of the nine circles of hell, that he'll do whatever it takes to get a head, listen this not for the sake of neutralizing and normalizing the field for "LGBTQ" or standing up for a community, it just happened to be out there it’s a part that he plays in at the moment. Once the spell has dries out or warn off to him at least he'll jump to the next one whatever it may be.

The good: visuals are absolutely awesome, looks amazing. The bad: there is almost no improvement in mechanics or AI from the last game, yeah you can jump and go prone and the dogs add a new factor but no real innovation here. All you are doing is just going to one box, fighting, finding items and then moving onto the next box. The worst: The story really did not do it for me, I loved the relationships in the first game but this was all thrown out the door with this. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is just sad. I loved the first game, it was a beautifully crafted masterpiece that excelled on some levels with its storytelling and its ability to make you love the characters, despite their obvious faults. I want to say though from the off that I think Neil Druckmann is a good writer - he wrote the first one after all - and I don't mind the idea of being inclusive. Ellie being gay was never a problem with me and anybody else who played it. What I do have a problem with however is when its forced and unbelievable.

The Last of Us 2 picks up after the first game, and it's clear it's a nmore somber tone. A heavy burden hangs over Joel's head, and a heavy doubt over Ellie's. Both are slight tarnished by the first game, but despite this they make a life living in the community of Jacksonville.

Its feels great to see these two on screen again after 7 years, and I wont pretend I didn't know Joel's fate before stepping into this but man, his last scene's just feel disrespectful for the character and the fan base. Joel needed retribution no doubt, but it plays very out of character compared to how sharp he was in the first game. He walks into a trap that TLOU 1's Joel would have been very suspicious of, and it just feels like Neil wrote this in to progress the larger story of revenge at the price of believability.

I wont go into Abby as she is a deeply dull character with almost no charisma or redeeming factors, but the annoying thing is the game to me didn't 'sell' the reason she killed Joel like she did to me. Her story is sad in a paint by numbers kind of way, but it didn't justify the brutality of his murder.

Anyway I'm rambling - I think a 6 is fair based on the effort obviously put into this game. Its just a shame the story went 'The Walking Dead' route rather than focusing on humans versus the infected, and Ellie and Joel versus the tension created from the first.

Starting with the story. I'm giving it a 4. It should be less but the visuals in this game are stunning, so that helps. I found the interactive cut-scenes overabundant and tedious but I'll acknowledge that some of them did manage to play with my heartstrings a bit, which is something. The whole guitar theme was too much. Seemed like they were really milking that one line from the first game about Joel teaching Ellie to play guitar. It felt forced. So did the lovey-dovey stuff in the first half. This game tries hard to contrast joy and suffering by having a lot of happy scenes spliced between the brutal game-play. It failed to be profound and just ended up being tacky at times. The unskippable cut-scene of Ellie serenading her girlfriend to "take on me" almost made me quit the game. I've heard a lot of people complain about various parts of the game but nobody seemed to be as offended as me by the tacky stuff like that. Seems like there is a lot of stuff to dislike about this game even if you don't have the same disagreements about the main direction of the story.

Here's the thing though: I really didn't like Abbey and I didn't want to play as her for as long as I did. She grew on me a little bit by the end of her segment though I'll admit. But dude, why did they feel the need to show me her bewbs? That sex scene was almost as bad as the "take on me" scene, but at least it was short and skippable. What's worse is that by the end of Ellie's arc, I disliked her more than Abbey. They also made me dislike Tommy. I get that they were trying to give her character layers and nuance and all that, but she was just irredeemable. What Joel did in the first game was selfish, but understandable. Throwing everything to the wind to try and kill someone who has already had 2 opportunities now and every reason to kill you but didn't, that's arguably just lazy writing. Story wise, the game should have ended sooner than it did. Not because it would have been a more happy story, but because it would have been a better story. The last act was pretty fun game-play wise though, so I'll give it that.

The game-play gets an 8. There are a lot of really awesome moments but if you don't have the willpower to get to the later parts of the game, you'd be temped to say that it's all the same repetitive encounters. I was playing in survivor mode, which made some moments super fun and riveting, but with such low ammo and item supply, I got flashbacks to the Arkham games, where you're slowly creeping around waiting for enemies to turn their backs and trying to memorize their movements. I like the Arkham games, but they are repetitive and tedious. There were some parts where I almost stopped playing because it seemed like I was just doing the same stealth challenges over and over, but I'm glad I kept going because there were definitely more rewarding moments sprinkled throughout.

The level design is impeccable. I prefer the richly detailed linear design to the bland open world environments that are currently plaguing most AAA games. The only thing I didn't like was sometimes you'd unknowingly advance to the next area and be unable to turn back unless you had created a manual save, which means you can leave behind key items that might have been stored in a safe, which is an obsessive completionist's nightmare.

I want to finish by calling out the people who are saying this game is being "review bombed" and implying that there is something wrong with that. These people paid money, and they deserve an opinion, regardless of whether or not that opinion is level headed. If it's not a reasonable opinion, they are entitled to it. Especially if they paid full price for the game, which most of them did. Paying money for a disappointing product is as good a reason and motivator as any to leave a scathing review. There were definitely moments in this game that I felt people were trying to check off items on a diversity quota. It wasn't that bad, and it didn't bother me much, but I definitely got that vibe more than once. It made me feel bad for the devs who were putting their heart and soul into creating riveting game-play mechanics to think that their colleagues were sitting around a desk deciding which character should be having conflicting thoughts about their gender roles and how they could tie that into the already convoluted story.

So the average of 4 and 8 is 6. This game gets a 6 because overall, it's just ok, pretty good even, but not a must-play. They should consider a mode where you can just choose which action sequences you want to play, like a "challenge mode".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
