it looks good, but that is the only thing going on for it. druckman proves that he's nothing but a sadist. the story's plot revolves around breaking down ellie until she's nothing but a broken lonely person in an apocalyptic world. it's boggles my mind how it got a score of 95.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story here is awful. Gameplay is very much the same as it was in TLOU. Which is fine. To be honest, no one loved the first one because of the gameplay, it was the story. The game works. It looks amazing, no bugs or glitches. Great work as far as making the game. Now the story is trash. The TLDR: Joel dies. And not in some sacrificing for the power of love type of way. Just beat in the head with a golf club. Ellie and friends go for revenge. They all make stupid decisions and die. You play as Abby and beat the crap out of Ellie and her girlfriend. As Ellie you save Abby and get beat up again. You get 2 fingers bitten off and your relationship with your girl is destroyed. You go through all of this, just to let Abby live. WTF. At least have the balls to follow though at this point. Ellie goes the whole game murdering people and animals left and right, just to not kill the bad guy. And yes I consider Abby the bad guy. I don't have any sympathy for her. Blame it on the storytelling. And if you think this is what people wanted or this is what we deserve you need to take a long look in the mirror. Expand

Naughty Dog intentionally mislead the public in its advertising. Everything you loved from the TLOS part I? Murdered, hobbled, and discarded just like the Content creators of PlayStation for going over game leaks. There are no moral choices for the player and you are subjugated to the 'plot' which is so poorly written. Put simply, if this game is a car and it has the option of either running over an elderly couple, a puppy, or crashing into a tree, naughty dog subjugates you to crash into the tree, stab the puppy, and r*pe the elderly couple. Never have I been more excited for a game when it was announced. Same studio working on it, Joel and Ellie back but more older and more mature, a darker storyline...everything seemed so perfect. How could you really screw that up ? but oh boy, screw it up they did, and royally.
But let's start off with the positives - visually the game is fantastic. the voice acting, cutscenes and music are still top-notch. As a player, I could tell a lot of effort went into making these aspects fantastic. But even these part of the game come with a catch.
the voice acting is great, but is delivered by some of the most unlikable, preachy and just downright bad characters I've seen in games. The game tries very hard to make you like these characters, to understand their perspective and why they are the way that they are, but this just doesn't work. The turn from " hate these guys" to "try to understand and love them" comes too late in the story to change the players' mind about the characters and even then, it' s like the writers knew they were running out of time in the story and try to push the likability on the player too much and too quickly. i was just bored and uninterested. The game is heavily focused on trying to switch your point of view on the events of the first game, as well. many deep questions like :" WHO' S REaLlY ThE BaD PEoPLe?!" are asked. the story is handled in such an amateur fashion I'm shocked it got any traction in the writers room at all. Many events, characters and moments from the first game are actively discarded and spit on.
Visually the game is fantastic, but after 15 hours of the same "Small town with rusted cars and buildings" environments, it gets just a little obnoxious. the tall grass looks fantastic, but damn.
the gameplay remains mostly unchanged from the first game, but small tweaks and refinements were made, I must admit. Nothing groundbreaking, but that's that.
the only parts of the game I genuinely enjoyed were some of the flashback sequences with Joel and Ellie. specifically the museum section. it was touching, delightful, the dialogue had warmth, care and it was spoken by two well-developed characters who had a believable history with each other. once that scene ended, it was back to garbage.
The game is also just a chore to finish, it drags in the last 6 hours and it's very hard to find motivation to keep going till the end.
From a story perspective it's a complete mess. it looks very nice and plays okay, but visuals and stealth gameplay were not the elements i cared about in " the last of us". I cared about the story. And there' s just nothing here for me. bad characters, uninteresting story, boring scenarios...it' s devoid of any enjoyment.
I won't be recommending this game to anyone I know and will be trying my darndest to completely forget this games existence.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into the game not knowing any of the spoilers so I came in with an open mind, excited as hell. The only reason I'm giving this game a 3 is because it is a technical marvel from both a visual and audio perspective. The controls are tighter and more refined than the first game visually, you could argue this game is superior to God of War as the best looking game this console generation. But from a story perspective, this game gets a 1 out of 10. After playing the game for 2 hours, they kill Joel in the worst possible way, portraying Joel as being out of character and disrespecting his character to the highest degree. Afterwards, they force you to play the majority of the game as the character that killed Joel. What in the actual eff. I couldn't continue the game after just 3 hours of playing and I did something I've never done before: stop playing a game because the story upset me too much. I've stopped playing games before because the gameplay was terrible or not fun, but in this case, the story absolutely infuriated me to no end. Naughty Dog has really screwed this one up, and from here on out I have to think really hard about buying any game this company creates. For shame, Naughty Dog, for shame..... Expand

What in the world have you done. the year is late 2020 where possibilities are endless, and Naughty Dog releases a game that is so linear and boring that the only people who thought it was brilliant are the brain dead Journalist. The game looks ok not breathtaking or cutting edge, almost the same quality as Days Gone. I don't care one bit about someones sexual preferences, but this game honestly puts you in a cuckold and makes you live it. everything from the killing of a beloved character, to the weird sex scene that made me gag. the writing is that of an under developed child, the story is one of how revenge is bad, but it looses its focus, it was either that or my give a crapper broke the second I was forced to do an activity I did not want to do. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I still can’t believe it. They killed off Joel: The central character, in the beginning of the sequel, by a character we aren't even familiar with, understand or even respect... with a rusty golf club? The miscellaneousness of the object used in the bludgeoning, makes it feel all the more random and disrespectful too.

What’s more painful is knowing how much that his death was unnecessary, and could have easily been avoided. You see, Joel was so paranoid in The Last of Us 1, that in the beginning of the game (before Sarah’s death), he wouldn’t even stop to help (in all likelihood) innocent bystanders, who were begging and pleading for his help. Another example is later in the game, when Joel and Ellie are driving, but abruptly stop in their tracks, to see an injured bystander, staggering in the road, begging for help. However, Joel is able to deduce that the bystander isn't hurt at all, and he’s actually part of a group of bandits, who are attempting to bait Joel and Ellie into an ambush. So to avoid directly engaging with the enemy, Joel accelerates his car, and tries to speed through their barricade. Which, of course failed but we all know how that turned out. This showed that Joel is perceptive, experienced, dependable, intelligent and in touch with his instincts.

But in The Last of Us 2, Naughty Dog ret-cons that, by forcing Joel and Tommy to make completely erratic, inconsistent and outright dumb character choices, by having Joel and Tommy give out their name, relation to each other and camp's location, to a bunch of suspicions strangers, in their territory… just so Joel has a reason to die… in a really arbitrary way. What does this remind you of? https://go.aws/2NpAS4T

Is this seriously what Neil Druckmann did to, arguably, one of the most beloved characters, after so many push-backs, delays and intentionally deceptive marketing? How could [those responsible] for this catastrophic sequel, be so sleazy to the people that held (and still hold) TLOU1 in such high regard? What a cruel, disappointing, anti-climactic and pointless way for Joel to go. Not even a sound, not even so much as last word, as he's bludgeoned to death by a stranger, who makes Arnold Schwarzenegger (in his day) look like a 10 year old girl.

I understand that most sequels don't match up to their predecessors (it happens and it’s not always the creator's fault)... but this time, creator decisions seem… not only *100% intentional,* but malicious. Yes, the graphics are impressive, and the action is top notch, as expected, but Joel deserved better than this (death-wise and character-wise), and so did Ellie as a matter of fact.

Why is Ellie (before the death of Joel) a mopey, lazy, withdrawn, whiner all of a sudden? What happened to that little can of whoop-ass from TLOU1? She was the perfect contrast to Joel and his jaded outlook on life… because, in spite of dire circumstances and past experiences, Ellie’s wide-eyed and adventurous attitude, brought out a side of Joel that--after the death of Sarah--was buried deep down inside him, and thought to be lost forever. I understand that Ellie would be more mature, mellowed out and sensible as teenager, but that’s no reason to strip her of all her charisma, optimism, precociousness and sense of adventure.

It seems like something happened internally, between Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann, so he just decided to take it out on the game. I mean, Joel being spat on (even if it was by another character) is so mean-spirited… And then, to add insult to injury, it’s expected of the player to insert themselves into the character responsible for the main character’s deplorable exit from the game?

This is why you should not go to professional critics, as many can be paid off to give positive reviews, which is disingenuous and often inaccurate. Go to the consumer: they are the main demographic of the game, and they (*we) are more liable to give you our honest opinion on a product, as we are the ones that pay fully for the experience. Whereas, some paid-off reviewers don’t even need to pay for, or even experience the product in it’s fullness (as intended) and can still say the product in question is “perfect” with impunity.

As much as I think a sequel to The Last of Us could work and had promise, The Last of Us 2 is a complete deconstruction of already established and beloved characters, that suffer from character motivations and personality changes that don't even make sense. In the end, the only question I have for The Last of Us 2 is... why make a ‘part two’ to your story, if characters aren’t consistent with who they were in the prequel? This is how character arcs end before the sequel starts.

    Disappointing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First things first, to all the people saying that who gives Bad Votes should not have the power to vote, well, you are like nazis.
The user score here have been made by people, and this is a pure and transparent way to warn other people whether it's a good or bad title. This is a powerful form of democratic power, and this is showing. Even if this s****y game starts to raise above 5.0, it is still a democratic way of voting.

This being said, let's talk about the game.
I already saw the whole cutscenes, the whole game, and also the ending.
For me, games like this, not competitive ones that more on the narrative side, are meant to be played like they were movies. When you finish it for the first time, there's no point in playing it again to get a platinum trophy for a game that you already know everything about in terms of story.
Therefore, this is a game that focuses on NARRATIVE, it focuses on the story, the background, the characters and everything that surrounds them, the soundtrack that is playing that suits everything perfectly.

This game have been made by professionals, some of the best ones. All the actors of the motion capture have done a beautiful job, the tech teams have done a great job in blending the graphics with the environment and all is done perfectly, the soundtrack is a piece of art.
The only thing that makes me vote like this, and made this uproar are the choices that have been made for the story. AND the questionable type of gameplay. Same as the first one, imo.
It's not a rant of a GoT-like fan that sees his character die and whines, it's not like that. I don't have anything against LGBTQ, I don't give a damn about stuff like this just because I think everyone should have same opportunities.
Simply all the wrong choices have been made to turn this game in a propagandised game and a "do-gooding" ending is the cherry on top. Ellie turning out to be a Jesus-like girl that forgives everything.

What in the actual f**k? Are you really serious? You put us in this situation, where Joel is killed EXACTLY like a certain character of TWD, by a character that is completely anonymous, son/daughter of a f*****g SCRIPTED secondary character that you see by the ending of TLOU 1.
BY A SCRIPTED character, meaning that you DEFINITELY knew that you were going to turn the story like this from the beginning, or, if not, you just wanted that surgeon to be a part of something relevant, OF COURSE.
This could have been done PERFECTLY.
Listen to me: what about doing like the old Mass Effect games, but BETTER?

Let's give the player the opportunity to kill the surgeon, that was a civilian doing his job to save humanity, or to let him live, just knocking him out.
You killed him in TLOU 1? You got this story and this ending.
You didn't kill him? Or, even better, did you restart TLOU to get to that point and DON'T kill him?
Good, you will now get a different story with a better ending.
That would have been a GREAT way to make this game the masterpiece that we were waiting for, fusing an old mechanic into something new.
Shame to all the "Critic Reviews" that are PAID to say that it is worth 100 score.
This is a game that doesn't give us new gameplay. It just gives us a "story update".

I've bought TLOU on PS3 and the remastered for PS4 without hesitation, but you won't have a cent from me for TLOU 2. Not this time.

We could learn what happens when ellie finds out what joel did. She could decide to use her immunity to the most she could to help people. We could find other immune people who were not as well intentioned. We could expand the story of the infected and maybe make them more then just jump scares. We could contend with the corrupt military. But we get none of that. When i heard the leaks i did not want to look because i have always trusted ND because everything they have done was so high quality but the worse peoples said things were i had to look. And when they said that Joel is murdered and you have to play half the game as his murder that's when I decided this was not an instant buy. I decided to wait until there were definitive reviews that could confirm it and there were. But even after this my love for ND and the Last of Us characters was so great that i watched the story playthrough saying if it fit i would buy the game because the Graphics, music and gameplay look amazing. but sadly this story is just plain bad. none of the characters from the first game feel or act like the characters we all know. And the new ones make the same incomprehensible choices. And i just can't support this bad a story. If its others cup of tea so be it but i don't even want to play this game or even watch this as a playthrough a second time the story and the way it's told is just that bad. Expand

the story in general is gloomy and poorly written, a lot of unnecessary scenes and very little innovation

I am not bothered by the relationships of the characters, but these do not contribute anything to the game

the level design doesn't bother me either, the graphics and gameplay are a 10/10

They sold us a lot of lies and they want to make us feel compassion for the antagonist who killed the most beloved character

This is not a story of revenge, it tries to give us a teaching but it gives it in a very bad way.

To end this does not seem like a sequel, it seems the story of death and destruction with a happy ending to Ellie.

This game gets more hate than it deserves, due to the emotionally charged circumstances of its release. I don't believe this is warranted, but the game has some severe flaws that can't be ignored.
But let's start with the good. The visuals are stunning. The lighting, the motion capture, the locations are all life like and excellent. While some characters or enemies feel generic, the main cast feels almost like real people.
This, however, amplifies the central problem: the writing. Without exception, the characters act stupidly. Every single character behaves like an idiot and doesn't act in a way I as player would want them to act. Most conflicts could be resolved if people just spoke to each other, and outside of some surface level notions of revenge and loyalty, there's very little going on with the characters in terms of what they stand for. This isn't Japanese style writing where every character represents an idea which inevitably places them on a trajectory towards a tragic conflict. There's no pathos or philosophy here. The characters remain bland and hollow, and worse yet, frustrating in their stupidity. For a story driven game, that's a death sentence. It makes the entire experience frustrating.
Add to that, that the actual action sequences are simplistic and repetitive, with very oddly timed inputs and the same "artificial" feel that plagued the uncharted series, and you end up with a game that you play one for the story and never again. There's not much of an actual game here. It feels more like a very impressive tech demo or an interactive movie. Your actions never affect the outcome of the story though, so the entire experience runs on rails, counter to the possibilities of the medium. If your choices affected the outcome of the story, then this would be a real winner. With a presentation as good as this, it's a huge missed opportunity. This never becomes the player's story.

I debated if I should give the game a 2 or a 3. The direction in some scenes is so good, the use of music so powerful that a 3 would well be warranted. But in the end I had to score this as a game, not a movie.

The game is not terrible. Nowhere near as poor as people make it out to be, unfortunately why story is concerned they let the game down in massive ways the only redeemable quality scenes from the game are the introduction and flashbacks purely because they captured what made the original captivate people in the first game.

The first game was like poetry, with the sad reality humankind was facing in an apocalypse world. The second? Humans are despicable, revenge, revenge, reve...Oh wait, I change my mind, end of the game. . .
You see, there ways to tell a good story and make the players fell in love for the chracters, and sadly for ND they did that in the first one. So doing what they did it was obvious that a LOT of REAL FANS would get mad. In fact, it´s like they publish another franchise game, I would call, Adventures of Ellie and Joel in Walkin Dead dimension, because that´s the role problem here!
They did not use the Last of Us world and rules, they used the Walking Dead world and rules, why? Why ND choose to do that...?
    Let´s compare:

First game: character deads? Check, but in light ways, we know they died and the way showed was to absorve more in the sad and lonely world.
Second game: character deads? Check, in grusome way that not even makes sense compare to the previous mind concept he had once.

First game: Gay couple in one of the best chapters (Bill city), show in a delicated way, that makes no fan complain about it.
Second game: Sex scenes just to shock the viewers and players...

I think I made my point here. Doens´t feel the same franchise, not even the direction (maybe because is not?).
If I like to play something like Last of Us 2 I would look for some Walkin Dead stuff and not this franchise that make a lot of fans in a time we´re with numerous zombies games existed. And gain fans because of the style, the compeling story...

Graphics? Sure, is great, music too, gameplay, well didn´t change much, but I don´t mind that.

My bet´s still are that this game was called New Walking Dead game the critic´s from the players and fans where all high up´s, but this is Last of Us Naughty Dog, please understand your own creations before try to show some moral story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The purpose of a game, in any context, is to be enjoyed. People watch the Super Bowl to gather with friends and family in the expectation of an amazing, enthusiastic, snack-filled night. They play Chess, Go, Magic the Gathering, all in the hope to get better at the game and to have fun with their hobby, hopeful of experiencing new and pleasant situations, peers, and future friends. They dig out their SNES, their Genesis, or their PlayStation knowing they will be able to experience the nostalgic satisfaction and enjoyment they grew up with years ago. That is the purpose of a game, any game, to make you enjoy yourself and, if you are a direct participant, to strive to improve. The Last of Us Part II does none of this. It entices you with the hope of the same engaging story and characters of its predecessor, dangling the bait for you to draw ever, ever closer. Then, once you have let your guard down and invited this game to take over you for the night, week, month, however long you take, it CRUSHES your leg in the bear trap. It leaves you confused, hurt, angry, unsatisfied; feelings of betrayal swarm around you. But none of this is directed at the characters in the game, the world created, or even the story itself. After all, can we lay down the sins of the father upon his child? The creators of this game are the ones to blame. Lying to us in marketing and asking us to accept their very own, unlikeable, poorly fleshed out "New Generation" of characters as the heroes of this story. Our heroes our portrayed as the monsters, when we went through the whole first game, living with them and understanding the reasoning behind their actions. This game insists none of that matters. Not the characters, not their logic, not their motives, their relationships, their own moral dilemmas. The game paints it all as "bad" and delivers a child's perspective of pain and struggle, hurt and revenge, acceptance and reconciliation. A simple "hurting people is bad" message with nothing more than torture porn to sandwich it. Jesus Christ taught this message over two thousands years ago, but I believe I can safely assess that this game's way of delivering it won't last 1/400th of that time. In terms of the new genre, "movie games", The Last of Us Part II best falls under the category of a snuff film, and a poorly thought out one at that. Characters are brought in obtrusively from stage left, only to be quickly rushed away towards stage right, with little to no substantial weight, leaving the whole of the story far, far less meaningful than its individual parts. Characters' deaths and struggles and triumphs are meant to invoke reactions that NaughtyDog has neither earned, nor deserved, but heavily expects the player to give up for free. If you have read this far, you are well aware that I have given as much thought into expounding upon detail as NaughtyDog has given. For the most part, the game plays one to one with the 2013 original, and in those seven years and almost two console generations, the only thing new is more dazzlingly, yet vapid set pieces (though every game gets a few points from me if it includes snow) and the ability to mount up on a horse, as though your character is the modern day cowboy of the untamed West, which you are not. Zombies and their infectious spores are no longer the underlying villain of the world, which strikes as odd considering this is a zombie game. Stories with a force of nature as the villain usually excel when showing the human condition at its most vulnerable, yet most stubborn. A yin-yang dilemma between the hopelessness of the situation and the inability of man to just give up. When a secondary, human antagonist is brought into the mix it is best utilized when it juxtaposes nature's blunt force attack with an equally deadly (if properly written) cleverness. It shows that same stubbornness audiences root for, twisted and defiled into man's worse. It helps exalt the hero's victory over this immoral wickedness by showing that, though their base abilities may be equalized into a stalemate, good will always prevail over evil. Because that's the hope we have when we play games, watch movies, tell and retell stories. That we can always get back up and try again no matter how many times we fail or are defeated. The Last of Us Part II fails to instill this hope in its players, neither at the start of the game, nor by the end of it. We are simply told nothing we do will matter, no goal we set out for is meaningful, and, in the darkest hour, our lives and the will to preserve them are in vain. Though this is not the truth, NaughtyDog deems it fit that we believe this. The first game, upheld as a masterpiece almost a decade later, rings just a slight bit more hollow after experiencing its successor. Expand

Graphics are great. Gameplay Is the same as the first game with some added tweaks. Good but nothing 2020 amazing. And then we come to the story.

Expand

It's not that the gameplay is awful even though it's decently clunky for a game released in 2020. Overall the gameplay is actually pretty good. Also, the graphics are absolutely stunning and clearly there were top tier artists working on the project. The music is also wonderful at times... albeit a bit underwhelming overall and there's definitely room for improvement.

But graphics, decent gameplay, and nice music alone can't justify a score of between 95-100 for a game that is driven almost wholly by its story, which makes me question the veracity of the score given to this game by "professional critics."

As a game developer who specializes in story writing... let me just say that TLOU2 is an insult to video game writers and story games in general. The story of The Last Of Us Part 2 is centered around both tragedy and revenge... with very little else to justify the direction or make it feel like a worthwhile journey.

Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that beloved characters should not experience such a gruesome fate unless there's a valid reason or justification... otherwise "shock factor" veers into "edge factor" and becomes a meaningless trope. This is a shocking contrast to TLOU Part 1, when the characters were multifaceted, nuanced, and driven by a deep sense of purpose.

One can only wonder if the writers of this game grew to resent their very own characters... as they all seem to have grown short sighted, one dimensional, and soulless. This leads to a boring, depressing journey filled with an overtly dark narrative, bad thrills, and using "shock factor" as a cheap replacement for deep story. Sure, play The Last Of Us 2... if you want to be depressed... or if perhaps you don't care about story in a story-driven game and you're just in it for the gameplay. As I said, overall it's not a bad game... but it's a very bad story, and considering this is a *story game,* I can't justify a rating higher than 2 / 10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Never thought I had to actually join in on the kicking but seriously **** this game. Last of us 2 took everything that made Last of Us good and pissed all over it.

Let me get this out of the way and say I would not have cared if there was politics in the game but if the politic is the only strength this game has then there is something wrong with it. Make a good game and strong memorable character first then add on to the politic. At that point, I would be too invested in the story and character to quit because of some cheap politic added into the game.

Last of Us 1 is amazing for its story and character. This game is trying to sell not with the merit of the game itself. The story went from interesting (1) to gutted (2) and the game seems to try to sell this game more importantly as a progressive political game than, you know, an actual Last of Us game. All the character and built up from the first game was unceremoniously killed off along with Joe, the original character and the story turn into a generic revenge story.

If you expect anything interesting with its story or character then do not buy this. The game is selling on its political message not its quality as a game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just want to make this clear I do not hate the graphics I do not hate the sound I do not hate the work they put into this game. I hate the story I hate how what they too the characters and their motivations and what the characters do in this game. I truly think what they did to these character is f****** disgusting a lot of people are going to defend this game and that's their right that's fine but some of the decisions that the characters making this game make no f****** sense and this just shows that lately sequels and and series is have been having the worst and **** story-driven games and a long time and it's really sad because a lot of these could be good. Joel death is sad but the way he died and how he died is very dumb that's not how he would have died in the first game but in the sequel after four years apparently he's just dumb now was disgusting and should have been in the game and the ending is a big smack to the face to anyone who wanted to see Justice to what this big burly woman did to the Joel.I truly hope that better storytelling can be applied to games in the future but now we're just stuck with all this sad **** that no one wants ever. okay, so I took some time to think about this. First of all, the political and social views ARE NOT the problem with this game. The graphics, animation, voice acting, accessibility settings and difficulty settings are all amazing. The gameplay itself is okay, but i dont play the last of us and uncharted games for this stuff, personally. The story and writing is what I wanted to play theokay, so I took some time to think about this. First of all, the political and social views ARE NOT the problem with this game. The graphics, animation, voice acting, accessibility settings and difficulty settings are all amazing. The gameplay itself is okay, but i dont play the last of us and uncharted games for this stuff, personally. The story and writing is what I wanted to play the last of us for. it is possibly the worst writing i have experienced in a game . The characters are laughably unrelatable.

I honestly dont know what else to say. The characters make no sense. The characters values, morals and logical thought process are non existent. The relationship between Ellie and her partner revolves around fact that they are the only 2 people (in the faction) that are gay. I think it does a huge disservice to the 2 characters. It feels like they were only there because they were gay.

As a gamer who thinks Alloy in Horizon 0 Dawn is one of this generations best characters. The last of us part 2 does not belong in the same league as horizon, God of War and the original Last of Us. I call it the original because the 2 game are not a part of the same world. I recognized nothing in Ellie, Joel or Tommy that i knew the characters to be in the first game.

I cant in good consciousness give this any more then a 3 as nothing in this game makes sense, connects, creates empathy or excites me (except that one scene that made me angry). I feel bad for the development team as the story does not do the art, animation, programming teams any justice.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
